A go-to forever favorite!
Humberto's Taco Shop on 43rd Street is that spot for me! total go-to and I'm absolutely obsessed. It's super close to my church, which made it convenient at first... but now it's one of my all-time favorite places, and I'll gladly drive here no matter where I'm coming from. Bonus points: they're open late, which I love.
Their California burritos are solid, but I always go for the Asada fries- they're my main reason for coming. Just a heads-up: they have two sizes (a half and a full order), but you have to ask for the half or they'll automatically give you the large. I switch between the two depending on my mood. No complaints, though- it's still worth it either way.
I do love their green salsa. It has a slight kick- I mean, I'm a salsa girly, so I love it. The red one is good, but I don't really care for it. The green one is my favorite. I always add pico de gallo for an upcharge, and sour cream if it doesn't already come with it. The fries already come with cheese and guac for sure.
The only thing I'm a little bummed about is the price increase. For years, this place had the best prices in town, hands down. The half order used to be around $8 and the large was $10. Prices have gone up recently! The fries went up about $4/5 which I get, but dang- I miss the old deals! Still worth it, though.
Customer service is always great, too. Everyone's super nice, and even when there's a line, they're surprisingly fast. Even in the midst of a rush, I've never encountered rude service. I'm telling you- this spot is amazing.
I've tried a few tacos here and there- the fish tacos were good, but I mainly stick to the burritos and fries. I always get a side of rice and beans, and their rolled tacos are pretty decent too.
Parking is hit or miss. There's a little lot in the back entrance near the car wash, but those spaces fill up fast. Thankfully, there's usually street parking nearby, so it's not too bad.
Things to note:
- They accept Apple Pay, cards, and cash- plus there's an ATM inside in case you ever need it, which is a nice little bonus.
- No phone orders! they don't answer, and they don't take to-go orders that way either. Honestly, they stay so busy I don't blame them lol. Just shows how poppin' this spot really is.
- As for seating, the place is a pretty fair size with plenty of seats. I've never really had a problem finding space, even during a rush. It's kind of 50/50 for me.. sometimes I eat there, sometimes I take it to go, just depends on the vibe.
Only downside: there's no public restroom, so just a heads-up in case you're dining in.
Fun fact: The owners are siblings! They have another location over on 25th Street, which I'll definitely be reviewing next. Gotta show love to the whole family.
Okay, horrible the amount of times I've been here and still can't find a quick pic hahah. I'll definitely take time to look and add to this!
