Why Atlanta’s Restaurants Are So Expensive | Eater Atlanta

"For a more wallet-friendly but still imaginative show of technique, Humble Pie serves standout dishes such as the Nikki pizza with white truffle sauce, wild mushroom dip, arugula, and truffle butter dip ($28); short rib ragu with cavatappi ($23); a house salad with golden beets, fennel, dill hazelnut, and honey apple cider dressing ($16); and desserts like a peanut butter pie with cookie crumb and raspberry gel ($12) developed by the Juniper Cafe pastry team." - Su-Jit Lin

Raise a Toast to Bartenders With Tequila Cocktails at These Atlanta Bars | Eater

"You might not immediately think about pairing pizza with tequila, but the good news is James Beard Foundation nominees Ron Hsu and Aaron Phillips of Lazy Betty already did. First order some Strawberries n Stuff, featuring Teremana Blanco, tamarind liqueur, strawberry cardamom bitters, and mint lime. Then a supple, Neapolitan-style, 00 sourdough crust that shows this restaurant’s name is an underpromise meant to overdeliver. Enjoy toppings like Siano fior di latte, braised short ribs, lobster, truffle cream and butter, and wild mushrooms in well-considered combinations. Savor the slices in a retro-cool dining room alive with tropical colors and natural sunlight and greenery. And if anyone in your party starts to feel overwhelmed by this wake-up call to your senses, even more good news: Humble Pie is one of Atlanta’s two sensory inclusive-certified restaurants and has ready-to-go sensory bags with items like noise-canceling headphones and fidget tools to help anyone find their way back to center." - Su-Jit Lin

I have lived a good part of my life in Walhalla. I have always driven by this place with family on our way to Clayton GA so when I was home for the holidays my friend and I went here for my birthday and honestly the pizza was delicious! I would definitely come back even if it's a little out of the way. Not a lot of seating so if it's packed not sure how they handle that but overall I enjoyed myself.

Jessica M.

Google
Their pizza is delicious! We got it to go, but they also have nice outdoor seating.

First timer walk-in on 7.17.25, diddnt know what to get. Asked for recommendations, and was suggested southwest pie by man behind the counter. My lady got chx quesadilla. Both were absolutely fantastic. I ate the whole pizza myself. It was the perfect blend of spicy but instantly cooled down with the ranch mixed sauce and sweetened with the pineapple chunks and banana peppers. Ive never had anything like it. After I was done eating I walked back in to give both employees a $5 spot for their fast and friendly service, super good food and my thanks for making a great day even greater.

Visited here with some friends after a long day of rafting on the Chatooga. This was a delicious stop for dinner. I got the Mediterranean pizza which was good, though some of the artichokes had some pokey and hard to chew parts. Everyone I was with also enjoyed their pizzas. The serving sizes were good so that you will not leave hungry. I would recommend coming here if you are in the area. The outdoor seating is also very cute and there is a cafe next door (I did not visit the cafe). The atmosphere was calming and enjoyable.

Of course, for me, anytime I can sit outdoors and eat with my wife it is a good day! Unfortunately, I was so enamored by both that I failed to take pictures of the food when it arrived. Sorry. We were staying close by at the Chattooga Lodge and a guest there suggested Humble Pie because they had gone. They, too, enjoyed it very much! The pizza was made-to-order, and I also had a Cuban sandwich. The crust was excellent and the toppings fresh. The owner delivered it outside to us, and we chatted a bit. Very pleasant. The Cuban sandwich is not like what you would find in Miami, and has a definite Southern twist. Tasty, but I prefer the original. Good selection of beers and soft drinks. Nothing pretentious here and we liked it a lot. Will definitely go back when I'm the area, and I recommended Humble Pie to my friends already, when they visit the area. I would do the same for you!

We came here on the advice of a few locals. Nice little establishment. Great service. The food was good. I didn't care for the bbq sauce base of the hawaiaan pizza, but the crust was great and they were very generous with the toppings. My friends had the quesadilla and the meatball sub, which they said were good. The back patio has a great view.

Google
Our favorite place to get pizza! It’s the absolute best after a day at the river… the kids get to run around freely while the parents sit back and hang out. Highly recommend!

Several years ago, I gave Humble Pie a five. Hate to do it, but it's a two now, and that might be generous. My wife and I have come here for years. We live in Clayton, and the pizza and wings were always worth the trip and cost. Lately, over the past 2 years, quality has really slipped. A little over a year ago, the first issue was with the wings being undercooked. Didn't change the rating then bc everyone can have a bad night (and thankfully, none of us got sick). We put in the oven and were able to fully cook them at home. Today though... 3 pizzas (1 medium, 2 large), and 8 wings. With a 15% tip on a call in order (we've always loved helping small establishments), this order came to $94.77. I can accept it when prices need to be raised due to the cost of supplies, but I expect good quality and service at least. Take a look at the pictures and ask yourself if this order was worth $94. On a pizza that had green pepper and sausage ($27 for this pizza), each slice has about 1 piece of sausage per slice and 1-2 slices of green pepper per. Again, I understand the cost per topping, and I can accept that. I have a hard time understanding $2.50 per ingredient when you're getting as little as they put nowadays. Dough: Maybe it's my memory, but I would swear in years past, the crust had more personality. These pizzas appear to be pre-made (they're too consistent to be handmade) like I remember. Wings: This is just sad and the primary frustration that led to this updated review. As you can see from the picture, one side of the wings are carbon (that's not a flavor choice). Who in their right mind made these, pulled them out from being cooked, must have seen them burnt and decided, "yup, that looks good to me." If you screw up, fix it. Don't send out 8 wings at $12.50 (upcharged us $0.25 for extra dressing request) burnt. I hate to say it, but we likely won't be back. For lack of better words, "it's you, not me, and we're just not into you anymore." This, tonight.... it was bad. It's a 2 bc the pizza still tasted fine. The 4 of us still had a nice dinner together, but feeling a bit shorted and ripped off. And before anyone says maybe they were busy and things happen, there were no people inside the building eating or waiting for pizza. Caveat emptor (buyer beware) ****Update: Kudos to Trey!!! First off, thank you. I left this review and also sent feedback through Square (the payment processing service). I left these reviews last night around 11pm and by 1214pm the next day, Trey replied. I don't think I need to give any details of how things were reconciled, but Humble Pie / Trey should be recognized for reading the reviews and responding in a constructive manner. I felt Trey addressed all my concerns and owned what happened. Moreover, I love that Humble Pie/ Trey took (and looking at previous reviews, takes) the time to respond to mine and others' comments. My experience, there aren't enough business going that extra mile, and when they do, that's big points in my book. Trey: Thanks again for reaching out to me on both platforms. I didn't want or expect you to resolve it the way you did, but it is very much appreciated. We all have bad days (myself included). The extra mile you went to address this and listen to feedback means a lot and very likely won back our patronage. Thanks again for handling this in a thoughtful and professional manner.

Yelp
The food was very good The sandwich right off the grill Very delicious The employees were very concerned about us liking the food We had Philiy sandwich- a chicken sandwich + a Cuban sandwich All prepared well

Tammy M.

Yelp
This is by far better pizza than you can get in Clayton. I picked up the pizza and was back home in about the same amount of time it would have taken to find parking and pick up downtown!! Honestly, better and much cheaper. Was surprised with their selection of beer (nothing on draft, but they had a British beer, Samuel Smith along with the domestic beer you would expect!) Definitely worth the drive! (In the future I think I will ask for extra marinara sauce on pizza)

Yelp
Humble pie has amazing food! I personally love the Mediterranean and Chattooga white. The atmosphere is very family friendly. Bring your bike and ride the dirt track with your kids while you're waiting on your food. :)

Yelp
Every time I end up in the area I always go here. Absolute five stars. Super kind people with a real family feel. You know they trust and love the customer when you're ordering beers and they never even take your card. The pizza is delicious and he's truly homemade. Wish I gotten a picture of it. They also have excellent sandwiches and good vegetarian options. They keep everything simple but that's how you know they're really good at it. Love the crust and all of the toppings. The specialty pizzas are already so well crafted. I always just use those. The spot is really endearing with some strong off the lights and a garden. There is a really nice outdoor gear shop next-door that has coffee and pastries. Nice picnic tables for the entire family to enjoy.

Ken F.

Yelp
Great pizza, top quality beer choices too. Right next to gauge coffee shop so it's a perfect pre-camp or hike spot for lunch then post camp or hike jolt of coffee next door. Sundays feature local farmers' market. Pick up a quart of local honey for $20!

Patrick D.

Yelp
We stopped in for a pie. What's nice place with incredibly nice staff. The pizza was crazy good. We will be back.

Caleb S.

Yelp
Great experience, great food, great service. All around great. Loved the atmosphere and the flying Hawaiian pizza was sooo good!!!

K. M.

Yelp
We did some hiking in the area on a beautiful recent Saturday. I'd seen Humble Pie when researching what was in the area. We were all hungry and pizza sounded good. This place was awesome! The pizza my husband and I had (Mediterranean) was absolutely delicious. The crust was out of this world yummy, topped with olive oil, artichokes and olives (to the best of my memory). If you enjoy gourmet pizza or are a pizza snob and you are in the area, this is a must stop for a meal! We also enjoyed a Greek salad which was delicious, and my daughter enjoyed a cheese pizza. The guy at the counter was really nice and welcoming, and we liked eating outside on the covered deck at at picnic table. We'd love to go back if we are up that way again!

Yelp
Loved this place. We own a cabin nearby, and it was the perfect respite for a day of waterfall chasing. We were able to bring our dog on the back porch while the kids climbed the trees. The owner, Trey, was so polite and accommodating. We talked about the local area and rafting the chattooga. The crust on our pizza was spot on. Would absolutely recommend, as a guy who's had his share of pizza!

Yelp
STOP HERE! The pizza is worth any drive! The crust and veggies with meat! So good. I had the employees favorite (plus another employees suggestion) Best food I've had in town yet, I'm still looking though! Try the coffee shop Next door too! The black coffee is strong but not acidic. Also had tea and it was hot and honey was sweet. Really cool staff at both places.

Yelp
If your in the area, be sure to stop by Humble Pie! They have amazing and unique pizzas, with a build your own option, as well as delicious sandwiches!

Leslie E.

Yelp
Great place to stop for delicious pizza and/ or meatball sandwich. Service was great and very friendly. Beautiful views and great place to sit outdoors with your pets.

Yelp
Best pizza I've had in a loooong time. Fresh ingredients and perfect crust. Our family includes omnivores and herbivores and all were happy, even the picky kids. Cashier was very friendly. If we're ever in this area again, we'll be back!

Yelp
Great crust. Toppings were good. Cold craft can beer. Super nice staff. Outside seating and some shade. Good place to refuel after hiking or rafting.

Yelp
We love this place and Trey, the owner! Delicious pizza, salads and sandwiches, but more than anything, his dedication to his product and his customers' satisfaction won us over from the start. We just moved from South Florida to find this little jewel just 2 miles from our new home. Perfect!
google avatar

Yelp
Best pizza in upstate SC!! Recently under new ownership and they Rock! Love the pizza crust. Absolutely delish! Many beer choices and outdoor seating. Can't be beat. Check out the shop next door also!

JP J.

Yelp
Ate here just after finishing the Foothills Trail- just basically stopped at the first place that had food, not knowing what to expect. The modest brick exterior looks like a old-school diner, but that belies the top quality wood fired-style pizza that comes out of here. I had a Greek salad and the Chattooga white pizza and washed it down with some nice cold beer- just what the doctor ordered after 4+ days in the woods.

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Great pizza! Awesome service! Nice choices for bevy's! All the good points... Will be back for sure.

Cindy W.

Yelp
We loved this place last year after a day on the river rafting. This year was a different story- no pizza crust but size small, no ice, no sodas, dirty tables, no toilet paper, and the last straw was a broken piece of crockery was found in our small pizza pie.
google avatar

Ellen H.

Yelp
Ate here with my family while in town to go white water rafting at Wildwater. This is by far some of the best pizza I've had in a while. We ordered the 14" Squeal and ended up ordering a second 10" because it was so good! The staff are friendly, the service is prompt, and there is free WiFi which is great since it's located in the middle of nowhere. 10/10 would happily eat here again!
google avatar

Stacy G.

Yelp
Great pizza in the middle of no where! Don't let the appearance fool you!!! This place has some seriously awesome pizza and as always I like to have a side of Greek salad. Yes, they even had a Greek salad and really good sweet tea. Make plans to stop if you're in this neck of the woods. The owners were on hand and are super friendly. He gave us a brief history of his business and the area

Monica J.

Yelp
Humble Pie is awesome. It's a local place with great employees who know you by name, and treat you like family. The food is excellent, and they have expanded their menu recently, which is always awesome. The service is great, although when it gets packed, it gets a bit slower (they're used to local business and only have a few employees), but nothing unreasonable. All in all, give it a try. It's amazing, definitely worth the price, and a great environment!
google avatar

Kyle T.

Yelp
If you're a whitewater kayaker and don't know about Humble Pie Pizza, shame on you. This is a great meal spot after a day paddling on the Chattooga River. It's a little informal inside, but that matches the whitewater community well.

Cleanfoodgal S.

Yelp
Great location near Wild & Scenic Chattooga River and waterfall hikes. Food is fresh and tasty! Get the brisket sandwich if it's on the menu. Lots of outdoor seating on the back and front porch. Reasonable price and the pizza's are homemade.
google avatar

Gretta S.

Yelp
My grandmother had heard about Humble Pie from a friend, and suggested we go. I was skeptical since there's not a lot in Long Creek (except amazing views & apple orchards). We arrived before they opened, but without hesitation, the staff welcomed us to come in & were more than happy to open early. I ordered the CWP (Chattooga White Pizza), and it was the best pizza I've ever had. My grandmother ordered the Bulls Sluice Supreme, and enjoyed it so much that she ordered wings to take home (which she later said were amazing even reheated). If you are in the Long Creek area, or even if you aren't, it's worth the trip to Humble Pie!

Jessi C.

Yelp
Consistently delicious! Staff is always friendly. A great place to stop if you're in this neck of the woods
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
Pizza is great here , perfect for after a rafting outing on the Chatooga river. We got all our rafting gear here, and our guides Monique & Hunter were simply the best.

John W.

Yelp
A pleasant surprise! Pizza, in my opinion, is on par with Fortify-Pi and almost as good as Bella's! Limited drinks include a half-dozen different bottled beers and they feature some great little deserts.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
This small mom and pop pizza place was a great spur of the moment find. The staff was absolutely friendly and quick...AND very knowledgable of the area, to which the hostess gave us great sightseeing destinations...Also more importantly the food was GREAT. A fantastic pizza place for sharing and a beautiful view of the South Carolina mountains.

Toni M.

Yelp
Stopped by from a friends recommendation after swimming on the river. Cute place but nothing fancy, but the food was outstanding. Two girls split a Caesar salad and ate every last bite. Hubby had a burger and said it was one of the best he has had and believe me that says a lot. My oldest and I each had a new menu item that was a chicken BLT and it was amazing. We hated to share a bite to let the others try it. Oh and let's not forget how yummy the pizza was. We will definitely be back!

Lynette L.

Yelp
We were looking for amazing and found it. Awesome juicy burgers. Inventive fresh ingredient appetizers and pizza along with the normal stuff. Small and nothing fancy but great food and friendly people.
google avatar

Jack W.

Yelp
Great local hangout with good pizza! Mike and the gang put out great hand tossed pizza and beer for Chattooga river paddlers and locals. Check to see if they are open, schedule is reduced in the winter months.

Angela C.

Yelp
Welcome and refreshing change to usual country fare in this area. Small place near river with basic decor. Food was extraordinary though. Salad was large with special ingredients like roasted artichokes. The Mediterranean pizza was very flavorful with lots of toppings. Restaurant staff were very welcoming, we'll come here again!

Mary C.

Yelp
Excellent pizza, great folks make this The place to go after paddling the Chattooga or just want a break from cooking. And well worth the drive from Clayton Ga and other locales. Humble Pie helps make Long Creek the jewel of SC!

Nanci K.

Yelp
Oh my gosh, we love this pizza. It's our boys favorite, and he grew up down the street from Mellow Mushroom. love the location too. Great after a river trip!

Theresa M.

Yelp
Stopped by yesterday for early dinner. We were the only customers there. The girl behind the counter didn't greet or welcome us or even speak 2 words while taking our order. She went ahead and had us pay...so we didn't order another drink. No music or tv on. It was like being in a library. She disappeared for 20 minutes. Never came to our table to ask if we needed anything. No water, etc. Then a guy brought our pizza out. He has the personality of a doorknob. The pizza however, was pleasantly good. Other than the fact that we were starving and there was a beautiful view, we would have left. The place itself has huge potential. Maybe we just stopped by at the wrong time. If I could rate the customer service, I would do negative stars. The pizza was definitely 4 stars.

Holly G.

Yelp
The pizza aand atmosphere are great. I bring my family here every time we come to the Chatooga River for white water rafting. We have always gotten good service. On our 7/27/13 visit, the service was atrocious. The waitress/cashier was rude and sarcastic. When I ordered a deluxe pizza she rolled her eyes and looked at the menu board and said "does it look like we have deluxe?" She was very unfriendly and curt. Her name is Autumn . She does not represent Humble Pie in a positive light. Would havegotten many more stars if not for this employee.
