It's the same Humble Pie food that we all love and adore, but the space itself...
First, I used to love the Humble Pie that was in Scottsdale that sadly closed earlier this year. I can understand why, as they really weren't busy enough for what must've been a very pricey lease. The Humble Bistro at High Street is OK, but I really can't take the acoustics in there. Too loud.
Which brings us to this one in Happy Valley. The two big issues with it are the lighting and the tables. Arriving for Sunday brunch, I kid you not when I say that I thought I was going to fall as I walked to my table. It's DARK in there. Even if you were going for a romantic vibe in the evening, it was too dark. I'm not sure if my visit was exceptional but I didn't appreciate the lighting at all. The second problem is the tables and chairs. I mean, it's like they bought cheap patio furniture that they brought inside. Was truly floored. Having been a guest at the Scottsdale location and Bistro, I'm sure that's part of my disbelief but even for a "regular" guest, the cheap tables and chairs do not match the exceptional menu that is being executed here. I spoke with my server who told me that Humble Pie basically took over another restaurant. That makes sense, but please focus on design upgrades. Now!
The good news (whew!) is that the food is still intact. The Jalapeno hummus is one of my favorite dishes in the Valley and it is still so delicious. The meatballs are the ultimate comfort food. The wedge salad is huge and healthy. The wine list is extensive, and the Social Hour deals are some of my favorite Happy Hour specials. I wasn't enthralled with the red blend that I ordered, but it was still drinkable.
All in all, I'm thrilled to have a Humble Pie in this part of the city!
