Chicago Restaurant Workers Will Have to Wait for COVID-19 Vaccines | Eater Chicago

"This Humboldt Park hospital served as the backdrop for a city press briefing that highlighted health-care workers receiving second COVID-19 vaccine doses. City officials are prioritizing frontline staff at safety-net hospitals that serve vulnerable populations and have expanded eligibility to include hospital support personnel such as food-service workers. Many hospital cafeterias were shut during the pandemic, forcing staff to rely on donated meals from local restaurants, and officials stressed that limited supply (roughly 33,000 doses reported citywide) means broader vaccination will proceed slowly." - Ashok Selvam

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review for Georgina – ER Department I want to give a huge thank you to Georgina in the ER. She made me feel comfortable in a moment when I really needed it. She was compassionate, patient, and so caring. She made sure my child was okay every step of the way and treated us with genuine kindness. I truly appreciated the way she kept me calm and explained everything clearly. She went above and beyond for us, and I’m so grateful for her help. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I forgot to leave a review many months ago, but it would've been an abysmal experience had there been no books to read in the psych ward. One of the psychiatrists *im unsure if they still work here* who controls your discharge was nice but wasn't nice and manipulated me into "admitting" that I lied about their quick drive-by treatment of me. I'm very glad 7 days are the minimum time they keep you in a psych ward and I pray that continues because most people with mental illnesses recover pretty quickly --within 2 to 3 days--from psychotic episodes and realize how bad their health issues are. I digress. I hope they expand their library to provide more books to the patients. Also, I hope the medical staff (the psychiatrists & resident doctors) will stop making fun of mentally ill people. They should've been more compassionate. The behavioral health technicians, although somewhat gloomy for they work 12hours keeping watch over us, were nice. I saw one patient, even though he was quite grouchy and mean to medical staff, shouldn't have been judged ( medically presided over) and mocked by one of the student doctors. In my case, I was mostly treated nicely by everyone there and the main people I disliked were the condescending psychiatrists.

DO NOT GO TO NORWEGIAN HOSPITAL IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE. I was taken here by ambulance while experiencing severe cardiac distress—the kind of medical crisis that should be triaged immediately. Instead, I was ignored, mocked, and endangered. The medics and ER staff were dismissive from the start. Despite knowing my recent cardiac history, they dumped me into the ER where a nurse was laughing and joking with a family who’d been in a fender-bender. I sat there for minutes in obvious crisis, completely unacknowledged. When I tried to get help, the nurse yelled at me—saying I should be grateful to even sit there, threatening to throw me out if I didn’t shut up. A security guard mocked me, saying “looks like you’re fine to walk” as I struggled to save my own life. Worst of all: when I was sent to a so-called “waiting room,” a man pulled out his genitals and began masturbating directly in front of me while I was weak, terrified, and trying not to collapse. I screamed. Security eventually threw him out, but only after I’d been completely violated and endangered—while cops stood by and did nothing. This is not a hospital. This is a liability factory full of negligence, cruelty, and danger. I could have died. Instead of care, I got verbal abuse, sexual assault under their watch, and total indifference from every so-called professional in that ER. Norwegian Hospital should be ashamed to even call themselves a medical facility. The nurse, the security guards, and every single person who ignored my medical emergency should be fired immediately. If you value your safety, GO ANYWHERE ELSE. St. Mary’s, Rush, anywhere—but do not put your life in the hands of these incompetent, heartless people.

Google
I must say, this organization does take it's feedback very seriously, I was able to see a significant increase in both individual treatment as well as team communication. I ended up staying with Humboldt Health back in 2023, the experience was not ideal. My experience was very similar to other reviews regarding inconsistent care and poor attitudes. I ended up going back this year (2025), there was a significant improvement. Updates were more consistent/frequent, staff was much friendlier, and overall frustration levels ( both from staff and myself) were lower. It is evident that you do take your patient's concerns seriously, that is very much appreciated. Thank you very much !!

Google
This 5 star review goes to Maddy in the ER and the other essential workers for doing an amazing job taking care of their patients. I basically broke my leg when a tree branch punctured my shin leaving me discombobulated and in pain but from the moment I walked in the emergency room, Maddy and the staff made me feel hopeful that I may one day walk again. It’s going to be a long journey, but I believe with Maddy’s expertise I’ll make a full recovery! 10/10

Google
I was there Dec 22, 2025 didn't get seen by a doctor, also gave me meds without telling me what it was then say out loud that "everybody who has came in has COVID". That's the most unprofessional thing I have ever seen in the medical facility

Denisse G.

Google
Horrible experience. My poor sister came with her hand barely holding on to her arm from a dog bite and they took a very long time to attend her. She was finally treated, and after a couple of hours, she felt much better. However, then kept her at the hospital for three more days, under threat of having to pay costs out of pocket if she left before doctors advised it. Because my sister is illiterate, she did not know she had rights. So she stayed there much longer than needed, and if I hadn’t stepped in, they would’ve kept her captive for an additional unspecified time

Melina B.

Google
This is the worse experience ever. So I went to this hospital by ambulance to get seen for my chest pains and back pains just to find out that I couldn’t even be seen at the hospital because they didn’t have the equipment that they needed to run test on me. So me and my daughter ended up getting on the Cta and coming to Saint Mary hospital just to get seen I mean, the least they could’ve done was make sure that I got to the other hospital safe and sound, but they didn’t do that .

Yelp
I received great care when I needed it. The doctors and nurses provided exceptional communication, service, and made sure I felt heard. Thank you for the care I received in the ED and the hospital.

Yelp
Been waiting here with an ankle injury for over 2.5 hours. No one has offered me any pain meds since being checked in. No ice pack. The swelling has gotten so much worse since I got here because I was receiving better care at home last night when then injury originally happened.

Melanie A.

Yelp
My son was experiencing significant issues with his ears and hearing. Thankfully the staff were able to get him in to see the doctor quickly who then diagnosed what was going on and his pain has gone away. Everyone from the staff scheduling the appointment to the front desk staff, medical assistant and the doctor were wonderful and caring. We couldn't be more thankful.

Yelp
Worst place to go!! They don't care about the patients, my family tried to get me transferred and they wouldn't let me, the nurses would ignore the call when I would press it they will just come and turn it off. And they've deleted my previous review!! Very unprofessional!

Yelp
If you need any type of immediate type of mental health care. DO NOT COME HERE. I was transferred from the schizophrenic ward to the Depression ward. My case manger refused to let me transfer hospitals. Under IL law you have a right to transfer to a different hospital and or ward if needed. They didn't have any groups on anything

Alexa A.

Yelp
This place is horrible! Wasn't getting the care I needed!! Was here for 8 months and when I try to transfer hospital they were holding me against my will NOT letting me leave nor giving me my transcripts. I will press the call button and they will just come to turn it off not even asked me if I needed something! Will never be coming back here!!! Ridiculous!! Close this place!!!! Doesn't even deserve 1 start.

Shannon F.

Yelp
If the wait's aren't bad for you (hour+) they can deny to give you results. I went here for asthma+gerd and they hooked me to an IV with a ppi(which I didn't need). After that I struggled with fecal impaction (which a doctor refused to tell me, let alone tell me I had asthma), and they dismissed me and refused to give me results after struggling for weeks,(for results that I really need). I'd show you the scans but the doctors wouldn't even show me that, neither, just documents and no conditions on paper. Despite professionals and image proof showing my conditions.

Yelp
Terrible, awful, pls go to Saint Marys instead. Understaffed, dirty, low level of care.

Kimberly M.

Yelp
I was very skeptical with seeking services here at the hospital due to its change; however, meeting Dr. Patel gave me the assurance that my health & the baby's health was in good hands. She provided a great quality of care: comfort, professionalism, & compassion.

Kale K.

Yelp
Ive had a lot of bad ER experiences and some good ones but this one is the worst. Because I have a female reproductive issue they did not take me seriously at all. They did not understand what I have and what was wrong and what was needed. They didn't communicate adequately with each other. They were not trauma informed. They talked to me about sensitive matters in public. A male nurse was charged with my gyny care and talked down to me condescendingly. I had to just leave without appropriate treatment.

Yelp
First of all, I have seen so many bad reviews about this hospital and I couldn't believe it because my experience here was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!! I was having surgery for my fractured hand with Dr. Shadid and I was so scared. The day before surgery, a wonderful and beautiful woman called me to give me surgery instructions. Shirley Cruz(RN), talked to me with so much understanding, empathy, and compassion. I laughed and I cried on the phone with her and she consoled me. When we were coming to the end of our conversation, I told her that she will know me when I walk in the office because I will have on my Chicago Bears apparel, and I am snatching a big hug from her. When my Husband and I arrived at 10:15am to the hospital (which was over an hour long drive), I checked in, went to the floor and saw Ms. Shirley and gave her a huge hug. They prepped me for surgery and I was to have it at 11:00am but it wasn't until 4:00pm. I was fuming and my anxiety was at an all time high, because the doctor performing the surgery was late. I was manly concerned because my Husband is not in good health, but he was my ride home. The surgical team comforted me and made sure my Husband was comfortable. THE WHOLE TEAM WAS GREAT!!!!!!!!! This review is about the staff who got me through this surgery and also who took care of my better half. Same Day Surgery: Shirley Cruz, RN Janette Simon, RN Maria Marting, RN Surgical Team: Jacqueline Meraz, O.R. RN Nanette Ingram, CST (She is also the only person in my 50yrs that pronounced my name correctly!!!) Olga Medina, CST Kim Middlebrooks, CST Vidia Padilla, RN Charge nurse Cherry Delos Reyes. PACU RN Ryan DuNN, CRNA Dr. Miga, 1st Anesthesiologist Dr. Freidine, 2nd Anesthesiologist THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ALL WERE GREAT!!!!!!

Yelp
This morning 01/24/19 I was at the gym and my wife called me and told me her brother fell on the ice. That black ice is a mo fo cause it's so hard to see. He got a nice tear just above his right eye and was taken to Norwegian American Hospital. When I got there he looked like he just went 12 rounds w/Manny Pacquaio. His right eye was all black and blue and swollen shut and had a rip in his forehead above his right eye, thank god he's ok. They brought him to Norwegian American Hospital where they admitted him, cleaned the wound, stitched him up and did a CT scan on his head to make sure there was no internal bleeding. Even though Norwegian is a very dated facility the staff did a very good job in attending to his care. He was treated and released and relaxing at home.

Yelp
Brought my daughter in for shortness of breath. The triage area was filled with other young children exhibiting similar symptoms. Our vitals were taken within an hour of our arrival. However, it might have been closer to 90 minutes before we were triage. The triage nurse apologized for the wait, explaining that there was a shift change happening. The doctor came into the triage and examined my child. She took a viral panel and was prescribed a liquid steroid for her cough. We were sent to the registration area to await the test results. Although there are vending machines located in the registration area but they are unplugged. There are no water fountains or water coolers. There is no television, nor are there outlets to charge your devices. This is pergertory. The hospital is nestled in the middle of nowhere, so depending on the time, everything is closed around you, so you're SOL for snacks and beverages. Many of the individuals in the registration area were waiting for their ride from the detox clinic, which was a bit unnerving for my child. Although it's not my first choice of hospitals, it does its best to serve the population. Providing services such as detox clinics, rapid testing, and maternity care. They also have a pharmacy on-site, which I found to be very useful. The nursing staff and doctors were very attentive, making sure my children were comfortable. They brought them juice and cookies apologizing for the inconvenience of not having available vending machines. Despite the lack of entertainment and snacking options available in the waiting area it's a good place to go for immediate care.

Yelp
Ask 3 people 1 question, you get 6 different answers. Left hand has no clue what the right hand is doing. The incompetence at central scheduling is astounding. I have been quoted 3 different prices for the same procedure. Today I called to confirm when my appointment is and Ketia (who I have dealt with before) tells me 1pm and that's it. I had to ask her "what day"? And yes, you did hear a bad word from me on the recording. Did you also hear her inability to do her job? You got a few more bad words from me. I don't handle incompetence well. Had to reschedule an appointment. When I first made an appointment I was told it had to be no later than 11a. When I rescheduled I was given a 1pm appointment. Day before the appointment, I get a call that the appointment needs to be earlier. Asked why everyone in the scheduling department isn't aware of this, I was given the excuse that it's the cardiology department's fault. Incompetence all around. You get what you hire

Yelp
I BEGGED ambulance to take me to St. Joe's. I should have ubered myself. Entered ER with fracture of medial malleolus, aka broken right ankle. And sprained left ankle. Wait several hours in excruciating pain. Finally get a soft cast on my fractured ankle. And they want to send me home in a cab! I can't walk.

Yelp
It was time for my yearly routine check up. I switched doctors so this was my first time here for this year's check up. Upon arrival I was greeted by the nurses near the entrance. My temperature was taking and I was directed to where my appointment would take place. The staff was nice and answered all my questions and concerns. The nurse made sure to wipe down the equipment that she was using. Very nice and professional attitude

Yelp
I was recommended to Dr. Shamim Patel by a friend. Since my 1st visit back in October 2023 I knew I wanted to continue to come back. She is very kind, genuine, understanding, and compassioninate. She answered any questions that I had. She was very informative. I definitely would recommend her. 5 out of 5

Sonya R.

Yelp
This was not my original hospital but I went to labor and ended up here. I was tended to VERY quickly! Everyone was very sweet and treated me so kindly. Dr. Patel delivered my baby boy during very late hours. She is one of the best doctors I've had. I had to get a c-section and Dr.Patel did a very great job. She handled me to her best ability and with great care. If I were to have another one, I would love to have her as my doctor!

Keenan F.

Yelp
I experienced incredibly poor treatment where staff refused to give me medication for hypertension and my insulin for diabetes. I was there for 3 days and will never go again. The medical students and all the nurses except one were wonderful. However when my Doctor heard about the horrendous treatment, he immediately asked me to go to another hospital where he was affiliated. When I refused to sign the release of liability and asked the nurse to leave me alone about it, the nurse called armed security staff who escorted me to the street into the cold weather.

Yelp
Humboldt parks mental health department and it's mental health counselors and mental health medical professionals and especially mental health doctor Patel and their social workers are very uncompationate uncaring and undeserving of the care they provided for me and my experience with them mental health counselors that made personal jokes and poked fun of me and my mental illness it's a mental health facility that I would never ever have anymore dealings with me and my mental health posted this review of humboldt parks mental health inpatient hospital experience related review on Google posts

Maria B.

Yelp
This review is specifically regarding Humboldt Park Health's psychiatric unit. This hospital in general is severely under staffed. My boyfriend spent a week here recently and I cannot stress enough how unacceptable the lack of communication was. They currently have one phone for nearly 20 patients, along with one case manager. It was impossible for his IOP center (Pathlight) to get through to anyone. Compared to another time he was hospitalized, I was not able to speak to anyone directly. It was incredibly frustrating and unprofessional. They have horrible communication with their staff. I was told by a staff member that visiting hours were every day 7-8 PM. I did come one day and visit those exact hours. The next day I came, I was let upstairs, but scolded promptly by his nurse, telling me "visiting hours were 2-3" and they only let me up last time to "be nice." She also made a point to let me know if my relationship "wasn't a good situation for me" I have "other options." I have never heard something so directly insensitive from a medical professional. Her name is Virginia and I sincerely could feel how much she hated her job. His medication was mismanaged twice. The nurses did not listen to him whatsoever and continually gaslit him. The floor staff lost track of a patient at night, which was incredibly distressing. They also didn't catch a patient going into my boyfriend's room and stealing. Not only are they horrible with communication, they are clearly overwhelmed and not competent. They made a major error in discharge. His social worker confirmed he would be released either Tuesday or Wednesday. I work overnights as a doula, and I wanted to be sure my boyfriend wasn't home alone his first night back. They confirmed with him Wednesday morning, then Dr. Patel last minute changed his mind and said he needs to be kept one more night. Mind you, Dr. Patel had seen him once in the 10 days he was there. We essentially changed his father's flight (per their advice) for absolutely nothing. Hospitals in general are extremely full right now. I originally took him to Northwestern but it was completely full, which is why he was transferred. If you are able, avoid this place at all costs. There's reviews on here that mention roaches, that should say enough. This hospital is falling apart. It should be shut down. It is a cruel place for patients. I imagine an awful place to work as well.

Yelp
Kind of disappointed on the stay in this hospital. The doctors are amazing and so far the outpatient appts are good too. My issue is the care of patients in the hospital, I stayed overnight after surgery and luckily my doctor is amazing and I was able to go home the next day.. if a patient requires real attention from a nurse I do not recommend this hospital.. I heard a lot of complaining and bickering between the night shift and early morning shift employees,, very unprofessional.. machines going off for long periods of time, feels more like patients are just another number instead of people in need.. would never let my parents stay here..

Patricia H.

Yelp
I do not know how this hospital is even getting some good reviews. The only reason a person goes to this hospital is because the EMTs are obligated to take you there. However, if you need to stay there as an in-patient you are alone. The doctors do not call your family. When your family calls to speak to the doctors, liaison or social worker they do not call back. They are rude to the patients and talk to them in a demeaning manner. I was on the phone with with my sister and I heard how they talked to her. They did not know she kept the phone on for hours so that I knew what was going on. This is not the first time I have had problems with this hospital. I had to help a student's family from my school because the doctors would not respond to the wife about her husband's COVID-19 condition. I told the mother to call the insurance company to find out who the doctor was so she had a specific name. They did the same to me with my sister. She was there for two week and no one called the family. I was her only living family member. The hospital doctor took her jewelry and never registered it with the security office, which is protocol. I had to file a police report and talked to security over the phone. Then he went up to investigate and I had to threatened the nurse over the phone and tell her a crime was committed and she needed to tell me the name of the doctor to file the a police report or they would not provide it. Right now I have a cousin whose mom has COVID-19 just like my sister and they know nothing about her, even though they have called. NO RESPONSE. They called to ask what I did with my sister. I took my sister out without permission. She called for her own transport and I took her to Rush Hospital. My sister asked for release papers and that she would take full responsibility. They still refused to give her the papers. I advised my family to do the same. You had to take matters into your our own hands. RUSH Hospital was the complete opposite and informed me of everything. So, I do not know what protocol Humboldt Park Health (formally Norwegian American Hospital) is following but they are rouge. A few years back they did the same to my mother. We arranged a transfer to UIC Hospital because she came out of a coma and her doctor did not want her there. When I got there a man who worked for the hospital was trying to convince her to sign some papers, upon reviewing the papers they were trying to convince her not to allow the transfer after everything was arranged for the transfer that day. If I did not walk in at that time, she would have signed it. She just came out of a coma! I called her doctor and he threatened to call the insurance to not pay for any expenses because of their attempt and then the transfer when through. This is not the first time I have had a run in with this hospital. It does not matter if it is your wife, husband, brother or sister. The doctors will not call you back , no one. Make sure you have a medical power of attorney. You need something on paper with this hospital to be the patient's advocate. Other hospitals that I have taken my family to do call the closest family member about their condition. Do not go there. It is a lonely , isolated, rude, demeaning environment where you are cut off from everyone. You are taking a risk. You will need an aggressive family member advocate that knows the patient's rights. I wrote this in detail so people are aware of what is going on and think twice before you or your loved ones go there as an in-patient.

Yelp
I had my prenatal care and the delivery of my first child at Norwegian. Dr. Jenkins was amazing! She was thorough, responsive and supportive throughout the entire pregnancy and into my postpartum care. I was also followed by the MFM clinic and their support and guidance was great as we were potentially dealing with some challanging issues. The labor and delivery unit and mother-baby unit nurses and staff are so kind, attentive and supportive during this roller coaster experience. I was able to share special moments with each of them- talking about their experiences as a new moms and asking for advice and guidance. They really are a special group. The breastfeeding support is invaluable. I worked with all the lactation consultants while in the hospital and have attended their Baby Bistro class with Norma after I was discharged. My BF journey has been challenging and it was very comforting to know that Norma was only a call away. These ladies love what they do and are so committed to supporting their patients. In response to some of the other reviews- The Maternity unit was recently renovated and is more modern than the other units. My room was cleaned daily and everything was in working order. In short, I would return to NAH if/when we chose to expand our family.

Yelp
Came here via ambulance when I broke my tibia and fibula. When I finally got to a room, the nurse told me to climb into bed, which I clearly couldn't when half of my leg was flopping around, and my foot was a solid 180° backward. I was able to get up with some assistance, and screamed in agony, only to be told to be quiet because patients were trying to sleep. I had to use the bathroom with a bed pan, but never had prior so needed some help. When we asked the nurse how to do it, she told us she didn't know and to figure it out on our own. My husband ended up helping me do it which was mortifying. When I had my surgery, I was to be discharged that day, and came down with discharge papers, which the same nurse threw away because 'that wasn't right' I was in that hospital three whole days longer than I needed to be. Thanks for ruining my credit score for billing me for three unnecessary days. My surgeon was surprised to see me still there days later. I ended up developing bed sores while I was there. I was lying in my own filth because nurses would expect me, with a broken leg, to be able to keep myself propped above a bed pan for 17 minutes, and they didn't change my sheets or pads underneath me. Thanks again to my husband for doing that for me. I had several IVs inserted improperly during my stay there, which was absolutely bonkers, because when I complained about the pain from these poorly inserted IVs that were spurting my own blood all over me, I was told they couldn't fix it. When I finally got a walker to get up and use the bathroom on my own, I noted the crazy amount of cockroaches and silverfish in the facility. My surgeon was great, and for that, I can only thank him for being professional and one of the only people with wonderful bedside manner. This hospital is quite frankly awful.

Yelp
We are first time parents. My wife gave birth on 07/25/18 and our midwife during the delivery was Kaye. She was great, absolutely made us feel safe and informed. Charlene is amazing too, due to my schedule, we ended up seeing her about 80% of our visits. Your whole staff cares and it shows. I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you for Norma the lactation consultant. She is an absolute treasure. Her presence and the patience displayed towards us, in our exhausted and bewildered state, was exactly what we needed. More than anything, she gave us confidence in ourselves.  We went to the baby bistro last Wednesday and it was a great experience. Trying to implement all the advice and tools given during labor is a feat, especially when sleep deprived. It was nice to come back, after being parents for a week, to get a much needed refresher. We chose Dr. Ampaloor as our pediatrician and we plan on having our future children at your hospital too. Thanks for everything!

Yelp
Took my son in through the emergency room and his nurse Nannet Acevedo should be fired. She refused to request blood work to be done because she said my son was a grown man and if he didn't want to do it. She didn't have to request labs. Called me a crazy bitch and said she was not going to request Labs just to see the level of alcohol in his body. I brought him in because he has bipolar, border line personality disorder and he is an alcoholic. He overdosed on his prescription medication and consumed a large amount of alcohol. But yet Nannet the nurse said. I was a crazy bitch.

Yelp
Well my dad was taken there once out of all the times he went to the hospital but that was one hospital my was in his 80's and they took really good care of people his age or the elderly . They always had someone in the room to help him eat or needs to go to the washroom . Turn the tv on for him talk to him and with the staff and the doctors we're really good very informative and look very young they had a lot of doctors from northwestern and was very good experience I mean that. Was one hospital that I didn't get angry or upset on how they took care of him very good hospital .

Yelp
I was there for having suicidal thoughts. I was there 9 days. No group or individual therapy. Just scheduled meds and a television. I was having pleasant small talk with an employee when he told me to just kill myself. It was hurtful since it came out of nowhere and even worse since I was already suicidal. The hospital did very little after I brought up the complaint. i don't recommend the mental health ward to anyone.

Yelp
When it comes to a hospital, it's so big that most reviewers are going to have completely different reviews. This is a small hospital so lots of basic things will hold true for every visitor and I'll touch on those first. I can't confirm or discount the reviews of the ER but it's a small space and looked fairly empty to me for being in a large under served urban area. The first great thing about this hospital is that it has plenty of FREE parking. I haven't yet found another Chicago hospital where the parking is free. There are main entrances on North, South, and East sides of the building with the easiest handicap entrance being on the East side. The Pharmacy and Gift Shop are located in the center of the first floor. They're not big but they are clean and organized and when I entered the Gift Shop the woman behind the counter welcomed me and had a great smile to share. Most of this building looks to have been remodeled within the last few years. The bright ceramic tiles on the floor are clean and have no cracks or missing grout. The furniture throughout public areas is all nice fabric and wood and doesn't look worn out. The elevators were fast and clean and often elevators get ignored by housekeeping staff but not here. I had need to visit the fourth floor. Same cleanliness and fresh decor as found in the lobby. The doctors offices I visited also looked fairly new. The reason I didn't give this place a fifth star was the lack of security. I'd at least like to be asked where I'm going and them have some knowledge on who is entering the building. Many city hospitals require a pass for every floor or department and here there doesn't seem to be a care as to who is in the building and where they are going.

Yelp
I don't know how much things have changed in the past years. I'd like to give my 2 cents of this hospital from 18 years ago...when we had to bring my father to the emergency room. He was suffering from lupus at the time, when we took him in they refused to immediately see him as he could not breathe, his throat was closing up on him and they made my father wait! Long story short we took him to Masonic, unfortunately a few months later he passed. I was only 10 years old at the time but I will never forget the way we were treated at this hospital, you could not pay me to return to this dump.

Yelp
DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL UNLESS YOU WISH TO DIE!!!!!!!!! I mean this quite literally, this is absolutely the worst run hospital I've ever seen. I came here for a simple procedure and was completely misdiagnosed, luckily I went for a second opinion after seeing the patient care, or lack there of. I'm not comfortable giving all the details but I will say that without a second opinion I probably would not have remained alive. If I could give 0 stars or negative 5 stars I would. Please, if your reading this, do not go to this hospital, your life may depend on it and this repulsive establishment just isn't worth it.

Yelp
When I woke up from total knee replacement surgery on Thursday October 30, 2015, my tooth was gone....... Cracked off nobody from the surgery staff had a clue !!!!! The worst recovery I have ever experienced !!!!!! I was in pay Sooo much pain since my knee replacement I had my surgeon transfer me to a real hospital, This place is a joke. I guess if nurses or doctors cant get a job at a real hospital like Northwestern they go and apply to this joke of a hospital !!!!!!! Stay Away from this place !!!!!!!

Yelp
Norwegian is as bad as it gets. I was in world of suicidal level pain as a result of Dr. Shahen's apathy & neglect. A little background: I take opioids to control debilitating neuropathic pain in my feet as a result of a sacral resection due to a rare cancer. I had the great misfortune of being transferred to Norwegian under the care of Dr. Samir Shahen. He totally cut off my intake down to literally ZERO (Opioids require tapering, even amongst addicts, this is basic 101 level stuff) , which was the opposite of what I needed. He only had to look at my prescription history, so simple, not everyone on opiods is a junky, these drugs exist for a reason. Cancer related pain is among the most severe. Assuming for one second that all this has to do with some bizzare, unwritten policy on the part of Norwegian, why then even accept me as a patient? This in of itself is beyond careless. I asked Dr. Shahen numerous times, explaining my situation as quickly as possible whilst he tried to make a rapid get-away and he finally "consented" to prescribe me the necessary medicine but never went thru with it. Each meeting with him was super brief not even lasting a minute literally. I did not even learn his name directly from him but instead had to ask a nurse. The first "meeting" I had with him, if one can call it that, was laughably short, perhaps not spanning more than 20 seconds, he entered the room partially, basically mumbled his name, mumbled again asking if anything was wrong and quickly fled. Never have I met a more disinterested and grossly negligent physician in my life. I would give negative stars if I could and will be filing a complaint with the Illinois state medical board for all the unnecessary, extreme and agonizing neuropathic pain I endured (For 3 days straight!) at the hands of this incompetent, so-called, "doctor". Not once did he return any phone calls made by family members who happen to be highly trained physicians BTW. Chicagoans have a number of solid options on the menu, Northwestern, University of Chicago, Rush and the University of Illinois, why choose Norwegian and role the dice?

Yelp
this is the most unorganized hospital I've ever encountered. I don't see how they are still up and running

Yelp
I hear a lot of negative things about this hospital. Biggest one is the professionalism. Today was my first time at this hospital because the ambulance men refused my preferred hospital. I was extremely nervous on what I was going to experience and sure enough when I arrived I did experience some rudeness and irritability. THANK GOD it was time to switch shifts. So I had the ABSOLUTE PLEASURE of having Colby as my nurse and he was absolutely amazing. Took such good care of me. I came in with non stop vomiting and pain. I left feeling better then ever. He immediately knew what to do for me vs the nurse before who denied me everything and just walked out. My doctors were great as well. I'm giving this place 5 stars because They took such good care of me I'm so appreciative this post just isn't enough. Thank you Colby! And the doctors

Yelp
I got a mammogram and ultrasound (with BCBS PPO insurance) that Norwegian billed me for BEFORE sending the claim to insurance. I work in insurance billing so I'm very familiar. Fast forward over a year later, and they send me a bill saying it's the final notice. After several infuriating phone calls, they realize that oh right, I don't owe anything. Fast forward to today - they sent my "balance" (I'd love to meet whoever made up this number) to a collections agency. So that now I get to untangle this mess AND have my credit hurt for a balance that does not exist. I cannot recommend avoiding this hospital enough. They claim they're all about health equity but you'll get to spend years trying to correct their error, costing you money.

Yelp
Nothing but good things to say about this hospital. Been here twice and the nurses and doctors have been kind, patient, and helpful.

Yelp
A lot of bad feedback in these reviews, but I had a great experience with my mother here. Her primary care doctor found her to have a small thyroid mass and sent her for an ultrasound. The staff and service were very really good and seemless and my mother really liked her overall experience. Thanks to that, they caught an early cancer and she will get treated very soon. Thanks to Norwegian Hospital Staff and Doctors.

Yelp
Horrible hospital. I only went here because I suffered an urgent injury, and the EMT's are legally required to take you to the closest hospital. Their facility was filthy, the nurses didn't respond to my pain despite multiple requests, my room was never quiet, they attempted to get a hand surgeon to repair my hip, and worst of all, they lied to the EMT's about the risks of transferring me in order to keep me from leaving for another hospital. I've heard horror stories about patient abuse and neglect here, and while I never witnessed anything criminal myself, I thoroughly believe those accounts. Avoid if at all possible.

Yelp
Never in my life have I gone back 3 times to give an establishment a shitty review. Our encounter with Norwegian Hospital was actually the tipping point for me and it's one of the reasons why I want move out of Humboldt Park now. I'm serious. They spend their money on making the outside grounds look decent but once you walk in it's a total hellhole. My husband got a bill for $450 from Norwegian and a WEEK later they sent him a fancy robo-call reminding him to pay the bill. We are hoping to see if our insurance will pick up the tab. It's really ridiculous. They spend their funds on the upkeep of the outside and on bill collections. If you go online, you can read about the fact that this place almost closed in 2012 due to the state budget issues and they are constantly being sued. They are on the hook for a $9 million dollar lawsuit because a pregnant woman died under a doctor's lack of care at the hospital. Another doctor also botched an appendectomy. Avoid this hospital at all costs.

Yelp
Best hospital ever. The staff here deals with probably the worst people the planet has to offer on a daily basis. Yet they always maintain their composure and professionalism. A tiny little city hospital that has seen and done more in a month than most big trauma and research hospitals in the entirety of their existence. They are some of the most caring and knowledgeable people in the medical field and I would trust them with my life. They are also abused mentally, physically, and emotionally day in and day out yet still come in to work everyday. They have my respect and deserve an award.

Yelp
Omg this is by far the worse hospital ever! Orthopaedic opens at 12pm, I get here 15 minutes early and at 12pm a girls comes to the desk to write people's names down and gives everyone a pager. The pager is to register you, which by the way im going on an hour and a half waiting just to be registered!!! What kind of B.S. is this! They obviously don't know how to handle the amount of patients the get in a day! The office is pack and the waiting room outside is pack! Go to Rush!

Yelp
the name of this hospital changed, but it is still the same ran down, unprofessional hospital . sat in er for nearly 12 hours before getting a room. asked the nurse for 3 different things , he told me he would be right back and never showed up. nurses laughing at, and talking about the patients. nurses standing around talking about mundane things and using profanity. witnessesd patients crying out for help over and over again to use the bathroom and they were either ignored or told to hold ot. asked the nurse to ask the doctor a question nearly 10 hours ago and i was told the doctor never called back. the name of this place should have been changed to "enter at your own risk". you have been warn because i am sure patients are treated worst now being that family cannot come in due to covid

Yelp
Worst hospital ever ! My daughter who is 23 months had a seizure .. we called the ambulance and took us here .. they seemed like they didn't care .. They told me they needed to get a pee test I expected a woman to do it instead I got 2 guys looking at my baby's privates ! Which was so disrespectful! They didn't even tell me they're name .. they gave her medicine then left .. we waited 2 HOURS waiting for the test results.. I finally decide to politely ask about the test and the guy laughed saying we should've been gone a long time ago w out telling me her results .. they did nothing but put my daughter in so much pain ..

Yelp
I don't recommend this hospital for any type of situation. I had my father in this hospital I was calling to check up how he was doing due to COVID and they didn't give me enough information. The nurses are really racist the way they speak to you. Also my father was really treated badly.

Yelp
This is my 1st overnight stay as this is not my normal hospital, but my ortho goes here now. I was admitted through the ER and that was flawless for severe hip pain. my dr wanted me to be admitted for him to do hip injections the next day. while this is a 125yr old hospital the beds do not even fit through the doorways its always crashing and scraping doorways. Some major issues that need to be addressed..... 1) the lack of temp control in the rooms. My room was about 85 degrees. I have heat intolerance bc of autonomic issues. the heat ran for 3 hrs straight (no way to turn it down or adjust). they also do not allow fans. I have almost fainted 2 times, drenched in sweat, and am itching. I have stood in the bathroom with hands sitting in cold water to help feel better. Hot temps also spread and cause germs to multiple. 2) The rooms are outdated and worn down. they are all semi-private. I a cancer patient, autoimmune issues, and open cuts was put in a room with a HIV + patient who was on her period and coughing. I found this out bc there is no privacy and as a rn I know what they were discussing. I freaked out and was told the do not allow a person to have a private room regardless if they have severe C-PTSD or weak immune systems and have a letter stating they need a private room. I stayed in the room bc I was just gonna be moved with an other patient. so I asked for saniwipes so I could wipe the bathroom down every time (great when u feel like ur gonna faint). The Iv poles do not push and constantly get stuck. they do not roll with the patient. The bedside tables are lopsided, get stuck and broken beyond repair. The lights are behind the bed and are 6 inches long you can not reach them to turn them on and off. 3) the nurses are very nice but are overworked and not staffed enough. It should not take 45 mins to answer a call light esp when ur room mates IV is blaring and triggering your anxiety bc it sounds like a flatline at 2am. Also are poor response times for medication. I would request pain meds an hr before simply bc it takes them an hr when you request them when u need them. Ask for bottle water bc it is unfiltered tap water with a horrible taste. the ER has no pillows as well. They do not use the boards so you have no idea what the plan is or who is who. I have no clue what time I last took pain meds, tests needed, ect it also makes no sense for the patients that share a room to have 2 different nurses. 4) the dr is arguing with me on my scheduled meds out of 3 days I have seen him for 2 mins on 1 day. This is not even the ortho but a internal med dr Ive never met. suddenly pulled me off my cardiac meds, asthma meds, antidepressant and said everything is sedating. I have surgery every 2 months and have no issues with me meds. these are critical meds for me and something you do not just stop especially with mast cell issues. I have to battle for every med and then he did not want to treat my pain and has this theory u can become addicted after just 3 days. gee I came to the hospital bc I could not control my pain and taking over the amount of Tylenol and having 3 falls due to pain. I have a letter stating my pain needs to be aggressively controlled bc of EDS, Hyper POTS, and autonomic dysfunction/neuropathy from the 1 dr in the state of IL that treats what I have. Then they still refuse visitors so I have no one to advocate for me.
