Very surprised by this place. My wife and I visited for the first time for my birthday. We tried a few tacos, the guacamole and tamales. Hands down, best tacos in Tyler and maybe beyond. I would strongly suggest the smoked brisket tacos, you will not be disappointed! Fun up-beat atmosphere and really great service. You will feel like you are in an upscale restaurant without the price tag. 10 out of 10 and we will be back regularly for the tacos.

One of our go-to places in Tyler. Always a great experience at Humo! Food is fantastic-Mexican with a BBQ flare. Drinks are very good. I have been here for date night and larger groups. Exceptional service every time. Prices are very reasonable as well.

I’m not sure why I’ve waited so long to eat at Humo. I tried their food once before. It was shortly after they opened and I honestly enjoyed it then. For some reason, I haven’t been back until now. The ambiance when you walk in is perfect. The entire vibe just makes you feel like you’re in an upscale restaurant, but with a more relaxed atmosphere. For appetizers, we ordered the peruvian ceviche and the tuetano (bone marrow). I’ve never had peruvian ceviche, but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try it. I was pleasantly shocked. Same case with the bone marrow. I’ve only seen others eat it before lol. I really liked it, especially when it was paired with all the others flavors. They also bring out chips and salsa. The salsa itself was a bit spicy, but it was so good that I persevered. For my main entree, I ordered the chimichurri lamb chops. They were resting atop some perfectly cooked fingerling potatoes. It also came with a fresh arugula salad with a lime vinaigrette, which I demolished. Although the lamb chops were a bit on the smaller side, they made up for it in flavor, especially with the chimichurri😍 The service was a bit on the slower side, but our waitress did tell us they were a bit understaffed. I think she still did an exceptional job. If you’re looking for some great food in a chill setting, then head over to Humo.

We came here for early dinner after finding this place in yelp! We had no expectations coming in, but left pleasantly surprised! Overall the exterior and interior decor was modern, clean and asthetically pleasing. It had character and not the bland millennial grey. Our server/bartender was incredibly helpful, friendly and authentic. The food was great. We were shocked at how much we enjoyed the seafood fondue!

The food is always wonderful here. Sometimes the service is a little slow. I love the queso. I would also recommend the soup. It is amazing. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich and at every crumb.

I usually don't leave reviews. However, I was so disappointed with my family experience tonight. I chose to take them here based on my initial brunch experience two weeks ago. I made reservations so once there we were seated. It was only three of us. It took 10min b4 chips & salsa and another 10min b4 server came over to get drink orders. Once we had our drinks we ordered and was very specific. Brisket nachos with beans on the side and spice sauce on the side. 2 brisket & 2 chicken tacos, rice & beans and order of grilled shrimp & rice with a sweet tea no guacamole. It took over 40 min to get our food. During this time the server never came to check on us for chip refill or drinks. He also never gave an update on our order. Even the table next to us had to get his attention for chip refill. After waiting over 40min for our food it comes out wrong. Nachos have beans on them with a side of beans, tacos had no rice or beans and guacamole. When it was brought to our waiters attention, his response was, " What you want me to do". Really???? I asked for a manager and was told none was there, that they left earlier. Totally unacceptable! Follow Up: While checking my account today, I noticed the server had given himself a $5 tip after I specifically left no tip due to bad service. We usually give generous tips above the 20%. However, he did not earn it and to find out he fraudalently took money was very upsetting. I became furious and reached by phone and spoke to the manager on duty Mr. William. He was very nice and understanding. I felt he genuinely cared and wanted to make things right. The fact he took time to listen and provided a solution, I will at some point return. I sent him all the necessary information and pictures. I truly hope the server is coached regarding his behavior. You can not give yourself a tip that has not been authorized. This is fraudalent and can lead to big trouble.

Finally tried this place out and we loved it. The food is great and not typical as well as aesthetically pleasing. The ambience was classy, nice, and clean. The bathrooms were as nice as Buckees. The staff was good, the manager is incolved and runs a tight ship. The prices were suprisingly fair. We loved it.

Google
We stopped by for a very early dinner. The place was nearly empty. Our server was good. I think this is a fairly new place with contemporary decor. The menu selections were varied. While not your typical Mexican fare, it definitely had that style. The salsa for the chips was quite spicy. My grilled salmon was good, as was the flan. Food presentation was good and artful.

Yelp
The reviews are true! You've gotta try this place out!! Came for our anniversary. The food was delicious and came with great timing. Our server was so kind, polite and attentive. It's so hard to get service with a smile but dang, Humo knows how to hire them. And the food was seasoned to perfection. Our drinks were perfectly measured. Oh-Can't forget the atmosphere-JUST WOW!! Beautiful designed & decored on the inside. They left nothing out! Picture perfect at every angle-makes you feel like you've stepped out of the country to an upscale part of Mexico. LOVED IT! Will be returning!

Yelp
My first time here, but my wife had kept raving about this place. Close to home, Mexican style cuisine, and a great atmosphere. My first time was also with a good friend of ours from Washington State. We enjoyed some drinks and great food! I ordered beef and fish tacos on flour tortillas, and man the sauce was amazing and everything tasted fresh! The Mrs. was right... great place, la comida es muy delicioso, and the present company was pretty awesome too! As always, Enjoy and Happy Comiendo!!

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with my experience here while visiting Tyler! There was no wait on a Saturday night which was nice. The interior decor was upscale and inviting. The service was speedy and professional. The G&T thyme was simply delicious! My favorite part of the meal was the appetizer - the seafood fondue. It was AMAZING!!! They also bring complementary chips and salsa (with a good spice to it, too!) For the entree, I had the pulled pork tacos, which were good, but not as amazing as the other things that were ordered. When I go back, I would probably try a different entree. It was also reasonably priced. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
I can't say enough about marrow tacos!!!! These delicious tacos are served in the middle of three bones which you scoop out and pour it to your warm tortilla with beans. The flavor is absolutely amazing Tacos.. This lovely hidden Tyler must be made public so all the folks can enjoy. The service was great and we were well taken care of.

Chris H.

Yelp
I got the lamb chops and bone marrow. The lamb chops were good but the bone marrow stole the show - warm tortillas, tasty beans, buttery smooth bone marrow, acidic salsa. It was perfect. Service was quick and polite too.

Yelp
Overall: underwhelming. Walking into the establishment you see tall ceilings, host stand, and full bar. Unfortunately the walls are bare and white. Really is no ambiance, just bland. We arrived for an early dinner and were the only table. Server was sweet and attentive. I wish she had made recommendations as we told her it was our first time. We order the quesadilla frita to start. LOTS of breading. Didn't care for the batter at all and the menu didn't mention the salad on top. For entree we wanted to try different types of tacos...only one worth getting again was the shrimp taco. It was very good. Rice was cold and bland and soda was flat. Even though we were recommended to try this place, we won't be back.

Yelp
For the price I was expecting better quality Mexican food. Especially the salsas and guacamole
google avatar

Avina P.

Yelp
The restaurant itself is super cute inside, but the food, drinks and service are kind of hit or miss. We've gone a few times and the first time it was absolutely delicious and the service was amazing! The last couple times however it's been very subpar across the board.

Luann H.

Yelp
Server was very good. Being only guests when arrived not even smile from hostess who was busy chomping on her gum !!! Not one acknowledgement from any personnel just standing around. Cold feeling. Food was very good, as well as margarita. Just didn't have welcoming feeling.
google avatar

Yelp
Mr.Andrew was amazing. Absolutely professional and I enjoyed the food very much. I have eaten at a lot of places in my life. This place is very special. Thank you humo for making my day great...

Yelp
Avoid this place if you want a good cocktail! Every single drink, I watched the bartender make over an hour, She added ice to it every time because she came up short on every drink. Their house margarita has almost 0 alcohol in it. I did not eat there so I cannot rate the food but as far as the drinks go avoid that place at all cost.

Yelp
This was our first time to visit Humo. Andru, our waiter, was very good at answering our questions regarding the menu. Having previously been a Mexican restaurant, the interior looked similar with a slightly more modern look. We had the cheese seafood fondue that had lots of shrimp but too many large halves of mushrooms that you had to cut with a fork! I like the toasted bread with the cheese better than the chips, which surprised me. The fried shrimp tacos were better than the asada tacos. We will go again.
google avatar

Stephanny G.

Yelp
Went in for a late lunch on a Friday and the restaurant was pretty empty with about 3-4 other tables occupied. The ambience is clean and welcoming. There's a photo wall and the music is nice. Service was fast. Food was delicious! The asada tacos were my favorite. We also tried the Peruvian ceviche which was delicious! The complimentary salsa and chips tasted homemade, fresh, and authentic. We had a torta de res, fish tacos, pulled pork tacos, birria tacos, asada tacos, and the Peruvian ceviche and to drink the spicy watermelon margarita, and cantarito. Drinks were delicious. The birria is very different than what I'm used to, this one has a smoked flavor to it which is still delicious just a bit different. The meat in the asada tacos is delicious! I wish the tacos had more of it! Highly recommend this place, they are friendly and the food is delicious.

Yelp
Ambiance: perfect atmosphere. It's casual to night out. We went on Friday at around 5-6, and it was a very afterword vibe. Jeans, to hoodies, to leggings, to nice top feel. Natural light to low lit. There's several spots for groups, sitting, showers, meetings, parties, and casual dinner dates. There are plenty of spots for selfies and photos, open atmosphere. The service was nothing less than perfect. It was not very busy at this time, but they didn't get complacent. We never had an empty drink or waited for anything. I met the manager who was very nice and checked ok our table before we left. It was also very clean and fast. The food was amazing. One thing about the menu. There's is something for everyone, and every craving, from bone marrow to edemame to tacos with any meat. Very large variety to choose from. Want to have a party with lots of taste buds - GO THERE. THE PRICE WAS up there a little bit, but considering the area, the environment, and quality of food , it aligned. The HOUSE margaritas. It's worth every bit of the $8 - don't worry. It works. I should have a full video review up @tialynnevans on social media soon. Great place to visit in Tyler.

Nicquelette G.

Yelp
My husband always sit at the bar and get the steak special which is incredibly delicious and priced way lower than you'd expect. Service is so quick and friendly. Highly recommend!

Joseph K.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Would consider more southwestern than Mexican. Had lamb chops with Grilled veggies and arugula salad, all amazing. Hot sauce was very good also. Great atmosphere and location. Service was outstanding.

Barbara D.

Yelp
We have eaten here twice now. Service is good. The food is generally good. Fondue, tacos, half chicken, all very tasty. Tamales were bland, with thick corn and not much meat. Meh. The real reason we probably won't return is the assault on our eardrums from the incredibly LOUD music. Don't plan on hearing anything your server says, or carrying on a conversation with your table mates. It's the next day, and my ears are still sore...that's not a healthy atmosphere.

Yelp
I have wanted to check out Humo since opening. Finally! Had a chance to stop in for an early lunch. Humo's isn't a large place, but is a open concept. There is an I closed sunroom, also very welcoming. The bar area isn't big, but is very welcoming. We asked to sit out on the out door patio. Because it was just before noon, the sun was already on the other side of the building, this making it very comfortable to enjoy eating outside, on a very warm day, but not having the sun beating down on us. We even had a slight breeze that made sitting outside even more comfortable. Started with our refreshments. I had a sangria-Rita. We were brought the chips (house made tortilla chips) and salsa. I loved the salsa! First of all, each of us had our own little dish, this makes it great for double dipping. Second, it was the best tomatillo salsa I have ever had in a restaurant, and maybe ever in general. We ordered a side of refried beans for the chips, homemade refried beans, very good. My dad ordered the chicken soup, he said it was very good. Great flavor, perfect spice, with all the yummy trimmings to add in. He is a very picky eating, this is a huge compliment. I shared chicken tacos with my mother-n-law. Again, very good! Homemade corn tortillas, the whole chicken is cooked in their kitchen, and all the yummy fresh toppings. Comes with freshly made rice and refried beans. This meal took me back to sharing meals with my goods friends, whom are from Mexico City (we stay in touch but live in different states now). I found the found to be more true to the beautiful flavors of traditional- authentic Mexican food. All things fresh and homemade, excellent flavors. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Hopefully if you visit, you have her as your server, Sophia Carolina (there are two Sophia's so her middle name is also used). I give Humo's five stars because their place is very clean (even the bathroom), welcoming, service was very good, and the food is absolutely delicious.

Anna F.

Yelp
We've been here a few times and every time I'm amazed at how much I love their food! Our server, Ian, was fantastic and so attentive! We'll be back for sure!

Yelp
We come often and my original rating was a 5, but the hostess team sometimes complicates the visit. We asked to be seated in the sun room and even though the restaurant was not busy as all, the hostess said the sunroom was closed and we were seated in the dark dining room on a sunny beautiful day. Luckily, once our waiter Jordan came, he heard why we were a little disappointed and went to ask a manager and got approval to make it right. He moved us, gave us great service and now we will ask for Jordan everytime! My Baja shrimp was great once again and I attached a pic.

Ryan S.

Yelp
Me and my wife thought the food was good. I posted pictures of what we got! The only thing I would say is the building isn't the greatest but that doesn't mean much when the food is this good.

Chelsea S.

Yelp
Great food and great service! There was a small line when we arrived but the manager made sure we were seated quickly. Our server was very attentive. Brought out waters first while she got all her tables situated, then came back to take drink and food orders. All the food was fantastic. I had the birria beef tacos and my boyfriend had the shrimp dish. He said that was the best shrimp he has ever had. They weren't dry or overcooked, very juicy! His only complaint was that he wished there were more shrimp on the plate.

Kayla G.

Yelp
My friend treated me to lunch on Thursday. The food was amazing. I got the yellow curry vegetables with chicken and a side of rice. The portion size was so big that I had to take it to go and had the rest for dinner the next day. The staff were also friendly. I will definitely be visiting again.

Robin S.

Yelp
Met my sister at Humo's for her birthday, and was underwhelmed. Went around 4pm, and there was a large party in the back. No one was at the front, and a tall waiter finally came up (when he saw me walking over to the dining area). He put a finger up and said "we'll be with you in a few minutes, we are changing shifts". Oookayyy. Waited and still no one to seat me or acknowledge me. Meanwhile a group of waiters were in the dining area rolling up silverware. Finally another waiter seated us. He was very food. The food was just ok- had the basket tacos a la carte; actually was a bit dry. Maybe the management could give a lesson in customer service to the employees. Not impressed and likely won't be back.

N Q.

Yelp
Wouldn't call it Mex restaurant, more like a restaurant specializing in some Mex dishes and some South American dishes. Their tamales are wonderful!
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
Chips and salsa are always a good idea, but the spicy/smokey salsa at Humo is the best idea. I tried the chicken tacos on my first visit and haven't tried anything else on the menu, although I keep saying I'm going to try the puffy quesadillas. The drinks are decent, the only miss here can be the service. We've had super friendly and helpful servers and some other servers who disappear leaving you wishing for another drink for most of your meal. If the service was more consistent, this would be a 5 star meal every time.
google avatar

Randy T.

Yelp
Food is outstanding, Melissa (from Mexico City) was also exceptional. Faster than Villa Montez but same quality, and location near Fresh playground appealing for my kids. Will return, commensurate with Javi's nearby.

Bon W.

Yelp
The worst Margarita I've ever had in Tyler! They use cheap ingredients and the manager goes home early on a Saturday night. I want my money back! Update: It's Monday and the manager doesn't come in until 3 pm, it's no wonder that the restaurant is substandard.
google avatar

Denise H.

Yelp
New restaurant located in the old El Charro on the Ridge. The interior has been completely remodeled and has very nice finishes. Patio seating also available. The menu is limited, but the choices are good and very generous. Even though this is classified as "Mexican" I would call it a bit of barbecoa plus grilled plus Mexican. There are a number of brisket options and what we had was delicious. Service was great! Knowledgeable, pleasant and perfectly attentive. Worth repeating!
google avatar

Bobbi G.

Yelp
OMG!!!!! Get excited Tyler!!!! We finally have a true chef driven restaurant!!! IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE BONE MARROW, well then, it's truly just your loss & I have no hope for you. Do not show up here for typical Tex-Mex, cuz Lord above knows Tyler has WAY TOO MANY of that already!! Here, you get true coastal Mexican food!!!! Fabulous owners, great service, & kudos for opening in the midst of this current enviroment!! WELCOME TO TYLER - TRUE FOODIES APPRECIATE YOU!!!+

Yelp
Drinks and food are amazing! The atmosphere is fantastic and the service is also very good.

Yelp
My wife and I split the Bandeja Paisa plate which was not worth the $30 it cost. The brisket was mediocre. The rice and beans were OK. The sausage was bland. The grilled chicken was very good. The chips were cold. And the french fries didn't marry with the rest of the foods. Onion rings would have presented better, added flavor and would have shown more effort. They're new so give them time.
google avatar

Larissa H.

Yelp
Cute atmosphere, my husband's food was really good. He ordered the bone marrow and the brisket. Brisket was super tender and the bone marrow was a generous portion. I had the carne asada and it was not very good unfortunately. Super thin meat, not enough flavor and it also was hard to cut. The chips and salsa were good. And the waitress was very friendly. I would recommend. Ohhh and the Mexican rice was super good. Better than my meat! Lol

David G.

Yelp
Although the weather did not allow us to dine outdoors and enjoy the view, we had awesome service and food inside, this is a great place and was perfect for our celebration. We will be back again soon.
google avatar

Amanda G.

Yelp
Ambiance was good and the staff was really friendly. I however am not fond of the food. The birria tacos tasted like a bar b q sandwich and the quesadilla grits is a basic meat pie. Maybe I was thrown off by thinking it was Mexican food. Seems to get great reviews but I just missed the concept I guess.

K H.

Yelp

Yelp
Great food. Excellent service. Tomales are absolutely wonderful. Would love to give them 6 stars

Yelp
Humos blew us right out of the water. We are very critical of food and Humos was absolutely amazing. We had the Mexican shrimp cocktail, flautist and beef tacos.. omg!! Chef's Kiss

Yelp
Service was horrible. Took a long time for waitress to even notice us. She was apologetic, and you would think it would get better, but it didn't. They did bring more chips and hot sauce. Went thru a bowl waiting on drinks to arrive. Went thru another bowl waiting on food. Meanwhile, I needed a tea refill. Got our food in an acceptable time, but no tea refill. And food was blazing hot, as was the platter it was served on. The lady who brought our food (not our waitress) warned us about how hot it was. There seemed to be a couple of ladies watching over the dining area in some sort of authoritative manner, but they never did anything that I saw. I waited for a tea or water refill (they were both empty) to eat afraid it would burn my mouth. Finally I took a bite or two after the water was refilled. It was meh. Tacos were extremely greasy. Beans and rice were ok and had a good flavor. Wife was not happy with her food either. Finally got a tea refill after a long time and the waitress asked how the food was. "you don't want to know" I said. I lifted up a taco and showed her the grease pool it was sitting in. She said the tacos weren't usually that greasy, and she would go get somebody to come talk to us because they really want the food to be good. Waited awhile longer and no one came over. Fished out enough cash to cover the bill, which I hadn't gotten yet and dang sure didn't want to wait around to get it, then have to wait around to get my credit card back. And we left. Never to return. Even if the service had been halfway decent, the food we got just doesn't measure up. As for food, seemed like they offer either tacos or sandwiches. The fact it's not typical Mexican fare is about the only thing I agree with the other reviewers about. The waitress was nice enough, and I saw her bringing drinks to other tables, so I don't know what the deal was with us. I really think she was clueless about the poor service we were getting. We left about 30 minutes ago, and I'm wondering if she's noticed yet.

Yelp
Came to this restaurant because a friend recommended it. Ordered the mariscos plate (?) I forget what it was called but it's a seafood plate. And the "Peruvian Ceviche." I thought it was interesting that they offered a Peruvian dish at a Mexican restaurant but I was excited to try it. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. We got the chips and salsa and the salsa was fire! Very good! The salsa was actually spicy and flavorful unlike many of the salsas that are offered here in the local Mexican restaurants. They came in pink plastic Target bowls which I thought was interesting. Unfortunately, I did not know that the chips and salsa were going to be the only good tasting thing we would eat that day. The "Peruvian Ceviche" was not only flavorless and lacking salt or any seasoning what so ever....it was just flat. Traditional Peruvian ceviche is served with roasted kernels...they put popcorn in this dish. Which then gets soggy because it's sitting in like juice. Not very well thought out. When I asked our waitress about it, she said it was just their take on it. Weird. It was very obvious they just use the regular Mexican ceviche they have, slop it on a plate and add sweet potato and some..popcorn on it. Peruvian ceviche does NOT have cucumbers or tomatoes in it. They should just remove it from the menu and stop insulting Peruvians. The seafood dish was also lacking flavor and seasoning. It was just...okay, if that. My husband did enjoy the bone marrow he ordered, which I think was an appetizer. Overall, overpriced and overrated. Also, lacking so much flavor.
google avatar

Chase D.

Yelp
The ceviche is superb. The bone marrow is even better. I recommend asking for the bread that comes with the fondue to pair with the bone marrow.

Yelp
Love the lamb chops. Great unique drinks and the staff is great. Love this place. You need to give them a try.

Yelp
Good drinks; great margaritas. Good service. Nice atmosphere. Bland and boring food though. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Love the chicken flautas and their chips are the best in Tyler - hands down! The service is always great too!

Yelp
This place is honestly so amazing. The venue is decorated so cute, the staff is very attentive, and the food is unbelievable. Highly recommend Maria's roasted chicken. Crave this place constantly!

Yelp
Just delicious.. Every single thing.. Authentic and feels like home. These owners put their heart and soul into every single dish and it shows. This is a staple in our family's list of favorites!

Leann W.

Yelp
Food was bland ordered guacamole and absolutely blah. Ceviches was mostly vegetables little seafood. For the price not someplace we will spend our money

Janet M.

Yelp
What a great restaurant! Beautiful decor. Spacious seating. Our waitress and servers were friendly and just the right amount of attention We ordered 3 appetizers for the table. Definitely try the Mexican cocktail. They were presented nicely and were all delicious. All our entrees were visually appealing and scrumptious. And there was plenty! Definitely going back
