Humphry Slocombe is an ice cream shop like no other! Their flavors are bold, unique, and absolutely delicious, making every visit a fun and flavorful experience. We tried a few different flavors, and each one stood out in its own way. The Chocolate was a real surprise—not just your typical chocolate ice cream, but one with a nice malt flavor that added depth and richness. The famous Secret Breakfast lived up to the hype, with its creamy, boozy bourbon and cornflake combo that was both indulgent and unique. And the Matcha Cookies and Cream was the perfect balance of earthy matcha and sweet, crunchy cookie pieces—a must-try for matcha lovers! With its inventive flavors and top-notch quality, Humphry Slocombe is a spot we’ll definitely be coming back to. Whether you’re adventurous with your ice cream choices or just looking for something deliciously different, this place is a winner!

Probably not the best way to start a soft open…the hours say 3-9pm. We arrived at 6:50 only to be told they were all taking their break. Maybe their short staffed but two left at the same time. I watched a good dozen patrons leave empty handed an rather upset. I watched a line form an most people became rather upset too. There was no sign about when they would return. It’s a Friday an your only open for 6 hours. Hopefully the ice cream makes up for having to wait almost 30+ mins. After I got my root beer float an one small scoop of ice cream for $16 bucks. We walked out laughing for the amount of money we just wasted. This place will only make money cause not everyone notices the other places to grab ice cream. Let me help you. Super duper and Nick the Greek both have options that area cheaper an you don’t have to wait.

Google
Good ice cream place with pretty unique flavors. I liked the Chocolate XXXL (Vegan) and also the Secret Breakfast (Made with Wheat and Cereals). Our host was super nice and amicable. She was patient enough for us to trial few samples and finally zeroed on these 2 flavors. Serving sizes are decent and cost on par with competition. Definitely can give a try for the ice cream and the location. In the heart of Veranda mall surrounded by children play area and happening spot.

Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream is amazing. We always saw the long lines at The Veranda and finally decided to try it, and now we get it. The flavors are wild in the best way. Anything with chocolate, peanut butter, or cake? Game-changer. It might’ve been the sugar talking, but everything we tried was next-level. Prices are fair, portions are solid, and the taste speaks for itself. What really stood out was the customer service. Even as the line grew behind us, the person helping us stayed calm, friendly, and didn’t rush us, just good energy all around. It’s order and sit outside spot so definitely know what you want and plan where you’re sitting after or before. If you’re anywhere near this place, don’t skip it. We’ll definitely be back. Follow me and friend me for more real reviews that spotlight the places actually worth your time.

Google
The ice cream was really good. I didn’t know there wasn’t a tax on food, so I just got one scoop because I had $10 and there might’ve been tax. Get two or three scoops when you come here, because the line’s really long.

Try this place for the first time. I didn’t know what I wanted and they let me sample all the flavors. They had some pretty good flavors and some flavors I never had before.

Would not visit again. Made the trip at 2pm on Sunday to pick up my Doordash order only to find the store was closed. Store hours showed 11am-10pm. Update your hours instead of wasting people's time.

Google
Best ice cream ice cream in the Bay Area! Yes sometimes they close when the one employee needs to take restroom break. I don’t see the big deal bc it’s worth the five minute wait.

Yelp
A classic! Tons of yummy and unique flavors and the service here was amazing. Always grateful to have the opportunity to taste some flavors before deciding (ended up getting "The Black Out" a seasonal flavor: triple chocolate infused with charcoal) This store is located in The Veranda, so be prepared to spend 20-30 minutes trying to find parking if you arrive during busy hours (dinner time or weekends). Luckily I came at around 4PM on a weekday and found parking right away. There was also no line at the store upon arrival.

Tracy L.

Yelp
This spot was in the same plaza as where I had dinner, so it was perfect to be able to get a sweet treat. I got the single scoop of their Almond Joy flavor and it tastes very similar to the candy which is great since it's one of my favorite candies! I love how Humphry Slocombe has such unique flavors such as Black Sesame, Cranberry Coconut, and Milk Tea. Service was very fast. The place itself is small so you'll have to find a table outside or eat while walking around. I would definitely recommend if you're in the Veranda.

Krisstina C.

Yelp
This is a perfect place to get ice cream while shopping in the Veranda! They have have unique flavors like secret breakfast but also traditional flavors like tahitian vanilla. It's a small shop with outdoor seating. The staff was very friendly and let us try many flavors!

Tom B.

Yelp
Went about 6 pm tonight, no other customers but was not greeted when we came in, looked over the flavors while one of the two employees there stood and just stared at us...she didn't say anything and we felt like we were bothering her so just left without getting anything....almost half of the flavors were almost out anyway...does anyone train for customer service anymore?

Janee T.

Yelp
Best freaking ice cream in the east bay. Every time I am at the Veranda, I have to go to Humphry Slocombe...and yes that includes after working out at City Sports. It's just so good, it's worth eating back all the calories I just burned at the gym. They have a great selection of flavors on rotation, but my favorite will have to be the tea and cookies (which I think is chai, but could also be English Breakfast). Sometimes the line can get a little long, but when there are two people working, the line moves pretty quickly!

Carlos S.

Yelp
Any ice cream spot is going to be busy during a hot day and Humphry's is no exception. With only one employee working on a Sunday afternoon, the service maybe slow but it is still good service. She greeted everyone and thanked for their patience while helping current customers and others who have paid, left but kept coming back in asking for utensils/napkins and other items. Many different flavors to try and worth it to eat and enjoy.

Yelp
After having a big lunch at Shabuya, we stumbled upon Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream where Popbar used to stand. My son, being a vanilla ice cream addict, pointed out at the flavor in the store. My wife chose Breakfast Bourbon ice cream. I on the other hand quietly move aside and waited for them outside. A scoop is SIX.25 (Jul. 2024) $6.25. That is a dollar and a quarter more than a pint of Ben & Jerry's at your local Target. That is an exorbitant amount of money for a measly scoop of ice cream from a cup nonetheless. Also, as I tried to taste a spoonful of ice cream, I noticed that it has melted exponentially. And the was not that hot this day to say the least. I hope they would crank their chill to eleven so that it would last more as ice cream just like the other stores. But I have to admit that their vanilla ice cream was very delicious and very unique. That goes the same with my wife's Breakfast Bourbon. The excellent taste saved Humphry Slocombe and landed three starts. Yes, I see myself getting back to this shop for some delicious ice cream, but only on the 1st and on the 15th of the month.

Ellyzha A.

Yelp
Disappointed by the ice cream. Especially from the amazing reviews I read prior to coming here. First off, service was slow but granted--only one person was working the day I went. She was doing her best with the many hats she was wearing so kudos to her. I feel like having a second person would've helped. It was a Friday afternoon. As I was trying the ice cream flavors, they all had one thing in common. It was way too sweet and there was no creaminess. One of the flavors tasted icy as well. The flavors I ended up choosing were the Milk & Cookies & Chocolate. I think both flavors are dairy free as well. They weren't as sweet. My friend ordered 2 scoops of vanilla & couldn't find anything special from the ice cream and was dissatisfied.

Samantha W.

Yelp
My son and I stopped by to try the ice cream here and immediately I noticed it's super pricey but the girl working there was really nice and offered free samples. We ordered a root beer float, it was $9.25. It was good but nothing super special for the price. Probably won't return but not upset we went. My son sampled the caramel chocolate cookie (I believe that's what it was called) it's a vegan option. He said it was yummy.

Yelp
Came out on what feels like a rare sunny day to try this new ice cream shop the The Veranda with the hubby. I had my eye on the cornflake crunch but they were out at 12:30 already. Oh well, dark chocolate with sea salt and the tart lemon cherry dirty float it is! The float was really delicious and refreshing due in part to the Pellegrino lemonata that is used for the float. You receive the entire can to finish which is very nice. The team moves pretty quickly, could be a little more bubbly and remember to update the board when flavors are out. It's going to be a hot summer so make your way out to Concord for a movie and then some ice cream. Plenty of parking although the lot can get full so drive around the back. Plenty of Tesla charging stations as well. I imagine this place will really be busy once summer rolls around. There is plenty of space for kids to run around and play. Water feature, ping pong table and cool spinny chairs to enjoy.

Darlene M.

Yelp
A welcomed addition to The Veranda shopping center in Concord. Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream is my top favorite ice cream brand. I'm happy to have one closer to home, so no more traveling to the Ferry Building in San Francisco to get my fix. I've only been to this location once so far, and I just ordered the Vietnamese Coffee ice cream. That's always a good choice if you like coffee. I've tried many other flavors in the past, and none of them disappointed. It's all good! Service was good. The gal was pleasant and helpful. There's no seating inside. Just order and enjoy some outdoor seating on a warm day. I will be back again.

Yelp
Service 9/10 Environment 8/10 Food 6/10 Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream was a bit of a mixed bag for me. While I wasn't blown away by the flavors I tried, I appreciated the bustling atmosphere and the quick service, considering how busy they were. Unfortunately, my first two flavor choices were already sold out, so I ended up with the Dark Chocolate Smoked Sea Salt Ice Cream, which didn't quite hit the spot for me. I usually love ice cream, so it was a bit disappointing. The environment was cozy but efficient, with plenty of outside seating in a charming plaza with other food options. I might give it another shot in a few months to see if my experience improves.

Yelp
3/30/24 Drove 15 miles to check out this ice cream shop and share a hot fudge sundae with my wife. The parking lot is usually pretty full at this shopping center but we got lucky. Unfortunately there was some ice cream nomenclature confusion reminiscent of the old- "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is.." I call this story... Why I ate cold fudge and ice cream in the cold. I have added some photos and descriptions for perusal. PHOTO# 1 1. The shop is next to the Veranda Luxe theater that we often visit. The Grand Entrance. 2, 3. It is coldish Saturday and there is a line waiting to purchase ice cream. Go figure. 4. You place your order at the counter from the menu on the wall. I don't like crowds or lines, so I stand in the doorway and let my wife order. I expect her to order a hot fudge sundae. ...One employee is working feverishly to serve all the customers. She looks professional... 5, 6. I notice the floor and counter at the cash register is littered with debris. I'm thinking "Who would have time to clean with all these customers. Possibly this debris has blown in from outside- But on the cash register?" ...A second employee gets back from break. She looks professional - not so much. A little too laid back like she is either on her day off or she has worked a triple shift. Service speeds thanks to her though and we purchase our "sundae"... 7, 8. There Is No Indoor Seating so we go to a chilly outdoor seating spot. One table has an overhead heater- but two non eating squatters have taken up residence. 9, 10. The "sundae" tastes good enough but it seems small for ten bucks. I asked my wife "Where is the hot fudge?" "Most of it is at the bottom" she replies. "That defeats the purpose of hot and now we have cold fudge" I balk. 11, 12, I look at the bill now and it says we bought a Hot Fudge Parfait. What the hell is a parfait I'm thinking? I educate myself with a duck duck go web search. 13,13. I ask my wife why she ordered a parfait. She gave me a ridiculous answer. She said the menu says that a Parfait Is a Sundae. I looked at the menu and now you and I know why I had cold fudge and ice cream in the cold.

Yelp
If you're looking for a delightful ice cream experience that goes beyond the ordinary, look no further than Humphry Slocombe in Concord. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by the friendly staff who are eager to help you navigate through their unique flavors. Yelp
Excited to have finally tried this ice cream! Humphry Slocombe has a lot of fun & unique flavors. Half are favorites that stay on the menu and half rotate out seasonally. The girl working there was super sweet and let us sample a bunch of flavors! I ended up getting a double scoop ($8.50) on a waffle cone (+$1.50). The lavender crumble was delicious and refreshing, with a rich graham pie crumble. I wish I could remember the other flavor I got -- brown sugar something? That was also amazing! My partner ordered the secret breakfast ice cream as a root beer float ($9.25) which was also delicious! We definitely recommend coming here on a beautiful sunny day for some scoops!

Aga O.

Yelp
Perfect on a warm night! Humphry Slocombe, is a great after dinner treat. The many unique flavors like oil & vinegar - really elevates your taste buds, and staff is happy to give you a generous spoonful to taste any of their ice crea flavors. They are very accommodating and happy to help! First time here, last visit at a HS shop was in the city. $25+ bucks for 4 ice creams but they really pack that bad boy to the brim! This is perfectly situated in the Veranda plaza w/ all the shops and restaurants. We definitely will come back to this location. Parking is sometimes challenging but we usually find parking at the back of the shops!

Allister D.

Yelp
I'm excited they opened here in Concord but our experience was mediocre. My wife and I were disappointed because they didn't have the two flavors we wanted which was the chocolate malt and cookies & cream. We ended up ordering the brown sugar caramel which was decent tasting but the scoop is pretty tiny and it took almost 15 mins for me to get the scoop since there were only 2 people working. I hope they stock up more on ice cream the next time and I hope a 3rd person is hired to assist with the line or doing the register. The process would be more smooth for sure.

Michelle P.

Yelp
Great flavors and great location with lots of foot traffic. Staff is friendly and offer samples! So happy this opened here!

Kim C.

Yelp
I love Humphrey Slocombe! The owner is nice and is the only employee. There is an amazing variety of flavors, from classic malted chocolate to unique flavors, like Black Sesame and Special Breakfast (Cereal milk ice cream with cornflake cookies!). You'll be pleasantly surprised after just a little sample of the ice cream. It's fresh, pure, creamy, and delicious. Totally recommend this place to anyone.

Robert R.

Yelp
I had been here 2x to this location. 1st time it was a few weeks ago and they had soft opening. I was going to see a movie, but and it had already closed by the time movie finished next door. I went last week and it was still in the "soft opening " mode but it had a small line on a Friday early evening. I had ordered the Cornflake crisp scoop and wifey had a TCHO Fudge vegan scoop on a cone. Both Ice creams were really delish. People who worked there were friendly and very helpful. They had informed us that they will be open officially on 21st of March for their Grand Opening. I love their Vietnamese Coffee flavor along with their Secret Breakfast flavor. Irish Cream flavor had an alcohol disclaimer and sounded absolutely intriguing. Maybe next time if it is still on the menu since 17th Green holiday just happened recently.

Asal B.

Yelp
Came back to try more flavors at this location. Once again there was a long line, but the staff was attentive and quick. We got a Thai tea, chocolate with sea salt and a chocolate with coconut. They were all delicious and we enjoyed them on our way home.

Dannika D.

Yelp
Came to Humphry Slocombe for grand opening and they were having a grand opening special of $1 scoops for charity!! Flavor: - Vietnamese Coffee: 3/5 Kind of tasted like butterscotch. It wasn't bad, but wasn't very close to real Vietnamese Coffee. But there was a strong flavor and the consistency is amazing!! -Cornflake Crunch: 3/5 Cornflakes didn't really add to the ice cream because they are a bit soggy. I liked how this flavor wasn't too sweet though! Even though these flavors weren't for me, I do think that Humphry Slocombe really gets the texture and consistency right! It's like when you stir ice cream a lot and it gets soft and a bit stringy? Service: AMAZING SERVICE!! Very friendly employees. They were patient and kind despite how busy it was. Ambiance: It's right next to the play structure and turf area in the Veranda which is nice! It's only to-go, so the outdoor space is perfect to enjoy ice cream. Good music at the store. They were playing Super Shy by NewJeans Pricing: $$ Pretty pricey for ice cream imo. I don't know if $6.25 for a single scoop is worth it, but maybe if I find a flavor I like. Parking: Good luck finding parking in The Veranda... It's not too bad on weekdays, but Friday-Sunday is terrible. Will be back to try other flavors :-) Hopefully I find one I like!

J L.

Yelp
This review is for April 2024. For the price of the ice cream, wished it was better. The lady who served us was nice. She let us try the different flavors. The ice cream to me did not have enough flavor and the ice cream was not cold enough. I prefer the ice cream to have a firmer consistency. I didn't like the taste of the ice creams but I was with a few of my family members and they wanted some. Disappointed so I would not return.

Darwin P.

Yelp
I came here first time for an Elite YELP Event, and it delivers everything. The ice cream flavors inside this small establishment are very good, where you can get scoops, cones, sundaes or floats. Ambiance is Alive, with Humphrey's located in the Veranda, where it's busy in the heart of Concord. Weekends, expect many families out, music and live environment here :)

Michelle M.

Yelp
We came here after lunch & Miguel was so friendly and patient with providing us with their free tasting sample . They have a great selections that include dairy-free options. The flavors are original and yummy! I ended up buying the cornflake crunch flavor ice cream & it was so yummy.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Great service and delicious ice cream. I had the ice cream parfait which was so good. This ice cream shop is located conveniently at the Veranda. A perfect place for dessert after lunch or dinner. The staff was very helpful in suggesting what to order. Highly recommend!

Jessica G.

Yelp
Fan of their ice cream. Glad to see them here in the Veranda now. Staff is friendly and didn't rush the customers asking questions about their flavors, despite the long line. Forgot to snag a pic of my ice cream but I tried their sea salt dark chocolate and horchata flavors. Excellent!

J D.

Yelp
Newly opened ice cream shop at the Veranda. Unique flavors and they let you try it. Tried the malted milk chocolate ice cream and loved the texture and sweetness. Small store and expect a long line especially on weekends. Will definitely go back!

jennifer l.

Yelp
The woman scooping the ice cream must a have been mute because she never spoke. Didn't greet the customers, no smile, and when we thanked her for handing us the ice cream I actually thought she would say "you're welcome" but no, nothing. She just stared at me and walked away. I know it's busy, but I expected a more welcoming experience if I'm paying $10 for a root beer float and $8 for scoop of ice cream on a cup. I can easily gotten a tub of ice cream at home if the staff was going to treat me as if she is doing me a favor for allowing me to buy ice cream there.

Jeidi B.

Yelp
I stumbled one of my favorite ice cream parlor in Veranda Concord! To my surprised!! We don't need to go to Berkeley or at SF Ferry! Love Humphry Slocombe ice cream even though it's hard to remember your name ;) the quality and flavors are unique & superb. I am very picky when it comes to ice cream. The downside are slow serving, low staffing, there are lines and only one person then one came out. Seems no care of customer service or maybe they are understaffed. Also, we noticed if you work in food service there should be a standard for sanitation. One employee had her long hair all hanging while scooping the ice cream..hmm I don't want to pull out long hair in my ice cream. At least pull up your hair in a tie and out of the way. Food service standard. Ambiance, slow service, long wait, floors dirty like muddy. Can do better..

Toy B.

Yelp
The one in San Francisco is top tier so I was thinking I would get the same wonderful experience....not so much. I came with 4 people, we all wanted a different flavors, they had not one of the flavors & were out of ice cream cones....how? You're an ice cream shop for Pete sake!!'

Dana B.

Yelp
Ice cream was creamy and delicious. But only one employee working on a hot summer Sunday made for a very long wait.

Bobby D.

Yelp
Ice cream was great. What more you can you ask for. Well the staff was friendly as well. Nice place to sit outside if it isn't too crowded.

Kor D.

Yelp
Friendly service. Outstanding ice cream. Creamy. Fresh. Natural tasting ingredients and flavors. Like homemade. Try the secret breakfast. Super fun location - what is not to love about families playing on the lawn, on the lily pad climber, fountains with music, and chairs to sit anywhere.

Emma S.

Yelp
they have great ice cream, many different crazy flavors. small place but nice employees who help everyone with a smile and are very helpful with the flavors. outside seating surrouned by the movie theater and other great restaurants for dinner or lunch

Amy H.

Yelp
I was pretty excited to try this place as I've heard good reviews for their other locations. However, I was extremely disappointed when I came in to visit. First, the store felt dirty - the floors were sticky and gross. Secondly, the ice cream felt old because the texture was icy and hard. And lastly, the flavors did not stand out to me. Overall, I'll most likely not return as there are better ice cream places in the area.

Mariah C.

Yelp
In the Veranda, great location centrally located. Flavors are always delicious! It's a large shed sized location with some out door seating next to the shop. More seating through out the veranda. I went in the evening when it was cooler, they have one or two heaters outsize but we're unfortunately not working when I was there. If it's nice out I recommend getting the ice cream and walking the veranda! Great place for kids as well, directly outside the store is a large playing structures and turf.

W W.

Yelp
Interesting flavors even though there's not a lot of options. We liked what we got! Good spot to get ice cream and hang out for a bit.

Danny J.

Yelp
To management: please enforce sanitary standards at your establishment. Stopped by the store today and the young lady (shorter with glasses) had her long black hair down and everytime she went into the freezer box to make a scoop, her long black hair also was in the freezer box and basically touching the ice cream. It was so off putting it ruined my appetite. Please do something about this and instruct your employees to tie their hair back. It was disgusting.
