Google
Humphry Slocombe offers unique and delightful flavors that will tantalize your taste buds. While my recent visit came with a bit of a wait (long lines and a single staff member managing the weekend crowd – kudos to her for her perseverance!), the delicious reward at the end solidified it as a 4-star experience. One of the things I loved about Humphry Slocombe (as with most ice cream places nowadays) is the opportunity to try before you buy. They offer tastings of their various flavors, allowing you to discover the perfect scoop (or two!) for your taste buds. They also cater to portion preferences with different sizes available, making it easy to indulge in a single scoop or grab a pint to enjoy later. For the pint-sized ice cream lovers, they even had a tempting buy-2-get-1-free deal – a great way to stock up on your favorites or try new flavors. After much deliberation, I landed on the Cornflake Crunch ice cream. This delightful concoction was a symphony of creamy sweetness with a touch of saltiness, perfectly complemented by the satisfying crunch of cornflakes. It was a flavor explosion, and every bite was a moment of pure joy. While they don't have any designated seating areas, this didn't take away from the experience. It was a beautiful day, and we enjoyed strolling through Redwood City's downtown with our ice creams in our hands.

Google
Nice variety of off-the-wall and standard ice cream flavors. Fantastic chocolate sauce!! It was the star of my coffee float.

Google
Finally open! There are not a ton of great ice cream options in Redwood City, so I'm super grateful that a Humphrey Slocombe scoop shop opened here. They have a modest collection of flavors, sugar cones, and some pints for sale. It's simple and small, but a welcome addition. Also has a couple benches and a small table out front.

Google
I promised I would pick this up for somebody in the hospital and when I arrived, there was a sign up that they were closed because of break and would be back at 3:35. It was already after 4pm when I was there and there was still no one to be found.

Google
Great! LOOOVE the peanut butter ripple flavour with the waffle cone. My favourite! Not sure why the reviews are low, staff very friendly and helpful. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Google
Fantastic ice cream, with strange, but fun names. Only problem is that everyone has to sample several flavors to know what to get, so the line can take a while. But when it is your turn, it is worth it. Ordered two singles for my daughter and I and it was $13 and then my buddy ordered a double scoop with two flavors for his kid and him and it was $8. Lesson learned.

Google
Elijah is the best !!! great customer service, the most delicious ice cream I’ve ever had, brown butter, and Vietnamese coffee is the best! There are five of us, so we all got all sorts of different types with toasted, marshmallow and topping, freaking off the hook delicious!

Yelp
After devouring a plate of 5 carne asada tacos with the red sauce, my mouth was on fire. I made a beeline to HS. I began trot there quickly as the pain steadily increased. Thankfully, there was no on in line. I did not know about this ice cream company, but quickly learned they had flavors that were very unusual. I went with a green matcha (?) and it was fantastic. It cooled off heat that seemed to be getting worse. The flavor so good and I made a mental note that HS would be my ice cream spot in RWC. I've been there twice since. And here's a shot of the cone.
google avatar

Yelp
tiny little storefront in downtown rwc serving unique ice cream flavors and fun sundaes! i've been here a few times and am pretty underwhelmed each time by the ice cream. the flavors are really cool but the texture can be icy, which somewhat ruins it. the one that i like is their secret breakfast which is like a cereal kinda flavor. i tried the s'mores sundae as well, but wasn't a huge fan. i felt like it was a little overwhelming with too much sweetness in the graham cracker crumble and an insane amount of marshmallow fluff. if you have kids they might like it though - it's definitely super flavorful and decadent. i just wish there was a tiny bit more balance in the sundae! overall, not my favorite dessert in the area but it does add something different to the local landscape!

Yelp
SERVICE Christian was great! He deserves a raise! He helped me decide what to order considering it was my first time there. It's super cool they rotate their different flavors on a regular basis. They have all their flavors listed on the wall. Vietnamese coffee is definitely a strong coffee taste. Breakfast sampler is a favorite if you like matcha their matcha Oreo is for you. They have waffle cones too. They're located around the corner from the Main Street. There are a couple seating spots outside.

Yelp
HS stop after a very long time! I had to make a pit stop when I saw this location. I used to have them a lot more often when I was up in the city on a regular basis. Huge fan of their unique flavors.

Yelp
Small ice cream shop in downtown Redwood city. Pros: -the flavors are pretty unique. Victorian sponge? Matcha cookies & cream? Sign me up. -staff is patient and polite. Cons: -the scoops are pretty small. -whipped cream is, from a can. Why did I expect fresh whipped cream? My ice cream standards must be high, especially if it's $6.50 for a teeny scoop. Overall satisfied my ice cream craving, but probably wouldn't crave it again.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a shout-out to Myra who gave me an incredible recommendation to try the Pumpkin Pie flavor. I actually ordered another flavor at first, and doubled back to order a second scoop because she mentioned it was the last day before rotation.
google avatar

Yelp
Cornflakes all the way! My favorite go to flavor. It's smooth and crunchy. The ambiance is cute. They have this creative handwritten design of all the flavors. Service, the guy was super nice. Let us try a few flavors :)

Yelp
I always pass by this place when I am walking downtown. My friend and I decided to check it out since it was a nice day out and they had some flavors we were interested it. We asked for samples of the black sesame and matchadoodle. The person working gave barely a sliver of ice cream to taste which I thought was interesting. I usually like black sesame but the one here wasn't that great. I opted for a matchadoodle which had chunks of something like an oreo in it. I will say the matcha part of it just tasted like a grocery store green tea ice cream which I wasn't expected from a matcha flavor. Overall, it was an okay try. Maybe I will try some of their more popular flavors next time for a better experience.

Yelp
4.6: Pumpkin Galette flavor is great; a more spicy version of pumpkin spice. 4.4: salted dark chocolate: A little too salty. 3.8: The spiced pear liqueur: It's a numbing flavor. The first 2 bites are great. Then, your tongue adapts to the flavor and it tastes like nothing; you have to eat it very slowly to be able to keep the flavor new to your tongue. 2.0: The Butterbeer is meh. it's like a too-sweet version of butterscotch. Great texture tho. 2.0: schechuan strawberry sorbet: meh. nothing interesting about it. They have interesting sundae options.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious and smooth. Loved the flavor options. Consistency almost like gelato. High quality ice cream but small scoop for the price though.
google avatar

Yelp
The go-to ice cream place in downtown Redwood City! The service was great, the only employee there was very patient with the big party. There is a lot of personality inside the ice cream parlor. You can smell the freshness of the ice cream mixed with waffle cones as soon as you walk in. This place provides different flavor options compared to your typical Cold Stone or Baskin Robbins. This place serves a great purpose and will definitely be back for more dessert after dinner!
google avatar

Charlene N.

Yelp
Very delicious ice cream! I absolutely love the Earl grey and love that there are new options every time I walk by!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here with a friend after dinner and shared a double scoop of black sesame and hong kong milk tea. I really liked the black sesame flavor, but the hong kong milk tea wasn't what I expected. Maybe I was expecting a different type of tea, but I thought it was really strong and not sweet enough for my taste. These were both seasonal flavors, but I also wanted to try vietnamese coffee, which is one of their standing flavors. The shop is on a pedestrian street with a lot of benches so it was nice to be able to sit and eat.

Yelp
7:30 on Saturday evening. Ton of foot traffic. Sign states open until 11pm. Doors locked, apparently closed???? After waiting about 10 minutes ( because we could see someone inside) he finally cracked open the door to inform us and the 3 other groups with us that he "had 20 more minutes on his break". If management/owner doesn't know - they're not doing THEIR job. if they DO know, they deserve to lose their business. Go across the street to the other ice cream store. Not as fancy but good ice cream and pleasant service.

Herbert S.

Yelp
Had dinner at Mazra and decided to get some ice cream from Humphry. Small shop with no seating. The server was patient and courteous with everyone as everyone was asking to try samples before buying. We also tried a few samples and settled on the Salted Caramel Cocoa Nib which was absolutely delicious!
google avatar

Jessica Z.

Yelp
Decided to grab some dessert after dinner and this was one of the few places in downtown Redwood City. They have very unique flavors, but I think you have to have a really big sweet tooth. I ordered the pumpkin because it was not as overpowering as the swirl flavor I tried, but even then it felt too sweet. $6.25 is pretty steep for what we got. There is only a small table with a few chairs inside, so our group had to eat on a bench outside where it was pretty cold. Service is fast and server multi-tasked by giving out samples while ringing up some of our group which was a plus.

Yelp
Super nice lady working the counter. Would strongly recommend this place for ice cream.

Teri B.

Yelp
Ordinarily a fan of Humphrey Slocombe, but imagine getting a single scoop of Brown Butter and digging into it on the hottest day of the year as you stroll through downtown... only to find a single, errant ice-cream-covered HAIR about halfway through your cup. Disappointing doesn't begin to describe it. And not worth it to walk a block back in that heat for a refund on a single scoop. Can't trust this location anymore. Not sure I can trust any Humphrey Slocombe with a live scoop. :(

Yelp
I'm so upset with myself for forgetting to take a picture because I was so excited to eat my ice cream!! Ordered double scoop of Vietnamese Coffee and Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple $8.50 -- best combination. Try it and you'll thank me. They're also featuring Verve Flash Brew which has a nice coffee flavor but I still prefer the intensity of the Vietnamese Coffee. I think they can elevate the Verve Flash Brew by throwing in some cocoa nibs for texture! I noticed they had cakes in the freezer and I think he said it's $65 for an 8 inch secret breakfast along with some other flavors. It looked divine and I'm jealous of the person who gets to enjoy that!

Tony C.

Yelp
Anallisa is the best! She gave the best recommendation I've ever had in my life! This ice cream is top tier!
google avatar

Vanessa D.

Yelp
I have walked by this ice cream spot so many times but never stopped by until this time. And boy was I glad! It is a tiny space and it has quite the line with only one employee. But they were efficient. I ordered the smoked s'more with the recommended secret breakfast ice cream and it was absolutely phenomenal, I loved it! It's topped with hot fudge and marshmallow fluff that she roasts just like eating a s'more. It was so good!! The only downside is that that tiny bowl was $10. I either wish you could get large size or pay slightly less for that current size. Either way I'll be back
google avatar

Yelp
Hall of Famer. New delightful collection of seasonal flavors -- this is awesome that Humphrey Slocombe never stop experimenting with tastes and textures. Even if you are not ice cream afficionado as I am, don't miss HS ice cream. It is more than ice cream -- from naming (pink Jesus, secret breakfast) to taste, from smell and textures, generous sampling -- it is all about of original thinking, synonym to innovation and wild tastes. This became a classics of SF and Bay Area. Go for it!
google avatar

Valerie C.

Yelp
After eating dinner, my friends and I were craving something sweet. I got the horchata rice crispy but I don't know if there was supposed to be to be a crunch in it because I didn't taste it. The cashier was extremely generous with toppings that it kinda overpowered the main ice cream flavors :(
google avatar

Jack R.

Yelp
Ice cream craving satisfied! Super service with samples. Gor their Honey Graham ice cream with brownie bites and man did that guy load the single scoop with brownie. It was hot too, and well worth it! My friend also got the carrot cake ice cream. It tastes like icing, with not much carrot cake. Small bits of carrot cake, I personally didn't like it, but to each his own. Got their Vietnamese coffee and malted chocolate Single scoop ice cream to go. They had a great promotion, buy one get one free! Well worth it and a great addition to Redwood City!
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Get a scoop of ice cream and move on - don't try anything else. I ordered a hot fudge sundae, it was chocolate sauce over a scoop of vanilla. Not hot, not fudge. The ice cream was icy, not smooth, and even had lumps in it. Ive been to other locations and they are better.

Bev M.

Yelp
Yummy ice cream, lots of unexpected flavors to choose from and walking distance from my office which allows me to walk off some of the calories!
google avatar

Tina K.

Yelp
Humphry is the best - first time at this location and it didn't disappoint. Small location with a table and a few benches outside. Our favorites are the secret breakfast and the honey graham. Today I tried the cherry elderflower, and it was soooo good!
google avatar

Chi L.

Yelp
I went there on saturday afternoon. Employee are super nice. Place is clean and look nice. I got the dark chocolate and salted ice cream and my husband got matcha chocolate. Somehow, both ice cream seem to be super salty.
google avatar

Yelp
After catching a movie and grabbing dinner in downtown Redwood City with my brother, we were in need of a sweet treat. We've passed Humphry Slocombe (crazy name for an ice cream place imo) multiple times and decided tonight was the night we'd try it out. The service was great. The cashier at the front was friendly and fast with the ice cream scooper. The prices were on the expensive side ($8.50 for two scoops), but the size and quality of the ice cream made up for it. I decided to play it safe and go with the Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple and the Peppermint Bark flavors. The Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple had a very rich peanut butter flavor, and the fudge had a more semisweet than sweet flavor, which made the flavor more semisweet than sweet. The Peppermint Bark had a nice minty flavor and peppermint chunks buried inside it. I thought both of them were solid, and I wouldn't mind coming back again to try some more flavors. The scoop on Humphrey Slocombe: if you're yearning for some ice cream and find yourself in downtown Redwood City, give this place a shot!
google avatar

Lorenzo K.

Yelp
Website, Google, and Yelp say they close at 10:30 but they closed early. With no note or anything on the door.
google avatar

Anita T.

Yelp
Brought my toddler here for mommy - son date day. The ice cream here is hella good even though it's pricey, and I don't say that a lot about boutique ice cream places. We got the honey graham to split and it had lots of big cookie pieces in the honey flavored ice cream. Pros: Big single servings make it shareable Flavors are unique AND really tasty Convenient location near parking and other eateries, so perfect for dessert Closed off street so less to worry about kids running into the street Cons: Not much seating outside the shop, cramped space but downtown ya know . Probably not the greatest choice if going for dessert when the weather's bad.
google avatar

Anna A.

Yelp
Ordered the peanut butter fudge ripple ice cream I with brownie bites topping! But the brownie "bites" was practically a whole warm gooey brownie (phenomenal and generous portion). It paired so well with the peanut butter ice cream, this is a must get combo :)

Davi B.

Yelp
I got the yellow brick road ice cream cone and I found 2 hairs in it. 1 i just picked it out like ya whatever but 2nd time? No that was disgusting terrible. Worst experience eating ice cream.

Marcus S.

Yelp
We paid 6.50 to try a scoop that ended up being just comically small. I think the ice cream was decent, but it just didn't match the price. If you go, go all in on a sunday or other option.
google avatar

Veracious V.

Yelp
Let me tell you something about this place, the ice cream here is too rich in two ways, one it's too sweet and secondly it's outrageously expensive and not even that good. A single scoop was 6$ and to add topping another $1. There's not really much ambiance too this place, it's mad small and doesn't really have anything to be too excited about. I'm also pretty fed up with all of these "exotic" ice cream flavors like chocolate chili; I think almost 99/100 people would prefer regular chocolate to chocolate chili. The service here was actually very nice and kind.
google avatar

Allie G.

Yelp
I'd been wanting to check out Humphry Slocombe for a while and it was worth the wait! I love innovative ice cream flavors and this place had a good selection of these, as well as the classics. On a Thursday evening, the wait was pretty short. I tried a sample of the McEvoy Vinegar & Oil which wasn't bad, but I opted for the Vietnamese Coffee. I asked for the smallest size cup, which was still pretty large (couldn't finish it). My friend got the Secret Breakfast, which was so delicious - loved the crunchy texture mixed in! My other friend chose the Matchadoodle (matcha and snickerdoodle), and this was also fantastic. Would happily return to try more!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm unfamiliar with the name, but it's a local "unusual flavors" ice cream store that's more SF focused and has recently expanded down to the south bay. Based on my little taste test, it's surely a welcome thing! Despite the long line, staff was very patient letting everyone get a chance to taste-test their ice creams before committing (with metal spoons to boot, I do like that commitment). Excellent finisher to a lovely meal at one of the many nearby restaurants. This particular spot has no seating to speak of so expect to grab an order and dash out. Regular orders are placed at the front of the counter, but they have pints on the side for quicker grab and go (not all the flavors are the same too, so you might see some additional ones in the pint fridge). I sampled the Hong Kong Milk Tea (which I eventually went with), Churron (seemingly a banana-like tasting churro/macaron cross), and the Blue Bottle Vietnamese Coffee (very potent coffee flavor). All of them had a very nice consistency and texture and the flavors were generally quite well balanced, but I'm a sucker for that classic HK milk tea flavor that they cleverly nailed with the use of almonds. I'd definitely be back for more, but it's a bit of a drive for me so I shall have to suffice with it as an occasional treat.

Yelp
Humphry Slocombe has blessed Redwood City with its presence and I am not worthy! Located right on Broadway St., Humphry Slocome has opened its door officially today (if you're reading this before 7pm, you should head over for your free scoop!). Parking downtown can be a hit or a miss, but there is a parking garage off Marshall St. you can consider parking at. The space itself isn't relatively big. Once you hit the doors, you're able to see all they have to offer. Form a line, get your sweet treat, and go ahead and snag a bench outside and enjoy! I've loved Humphry Slocombe since YEARS ago when I first had them in the Mission and have since bought pints of their ice cream from Safeway after moving to Belmont. So, let's ask it.. Why Humphry Slocombe? Why not some other ice cream place? Because, dear reader, Humphry Slocombe specializes in wacky, un-thought of flavors. Sure, we can have chocolate (no hate, that's my childhood favorite!) or vanilla, but how often do you get to have flavors like Secret Breakfast (bourbon + corn flakes) or Apricot Scuffin (a cross between a scone and a muffin, who knew)? Yes, there's a lot to take in, but you can try different flavors to narrow down your preference. They also have pints and ice cream sandwiches available for purchase. Overall, truly so thankful to have them near my home now, although it sounds a little dangerous, too.. Welcome to Redwood City, Humphry Slocombe! I hope you enjoy your stay.

Yelp
Checked this spot out on a Tuesday evening around 6pm with some friends and there was no line. Its a small shop, no inside seating, staff was very friendly. As a Bay Area native, I have heard a lot about Humphry Slocombe. Before coming here, I've only tried their Salted Caramel & Cocoa Nib pint from the grocery, unfortunately wasn't the biggest fan, was hoping I would like their other flavors at this shop. The staff was very friendly and let my friends and I try several of their flavors. The staff told me their best seller was the secret breakfast which is bourbon icecream with cornflakes. Personally I was not a fan because the bourbon taste was a bit strong and I did not enjoy the texture of the soggy cornflakes. Their Honey Grahm was ok, tasted like a lighter version of Van Leeuwen's Honey comb icecream. I ended up getting a scoop of the Tahitian Vanilla which was ok as well. For 5.50 for one scoop, I think they give a decent amount. I am a big ice cream fan and was so excited to have this popular ice cream spot near me, but as another reviewer said, I don't understand the hype around this spot. Overall, I am glad they added another icecream shop in the peninsula, but was not a big fan unfortunately.

Susanna L.

Yelp
Having heard nothing but good things about Humphry Slocombe, but never given the opportunity to try their frozen treats, I knew when I spotted this location in Redwood City that I had to give it a taste test. Humphry Slocombe is known for their unique take on ice cream flavors, that being said they still offer tried and true favorites like their takes on vanilla and chocolate. I got their Hong Kong Milk Tea and found the flavor did justice to its namesake. The milk tea flavor was clear and present, and I was surprised with the almond cookie bits that were mixed in. With one flavor sampled and many to go, I already know I'll definitely be back in the future. Of note, the shop itself is fairly small with no indoor seating; however, there's plenty of outdoor seating in the area (the street is currently closed off to car traffic) where you can enjoy your sweet treat. If you like ice cream, have adventurous taste buds, and are looking , then I highly recommend giving Humphry Slocombe's flavors a try!

Yelp
The young lady working solo on a Friday night should get a raise. She was friendly and professional even though the crowd was growing by the minute. The line was long but worth the wait. I dont care what the reason was for her being on her own a manager of the store should have stepped in to help this kid. The Vietnamese ice cream is always on point and the cold brew float was perfect on this summer eve.
google avatar

Sai G.

Yelp
Right on the broadway in redwood city downtown. The staff is very friendly and they got little outdoor seating as well, also its on broadway, you will see benches all over the sidewalk. Close to the cal station too. The price is little high, but why not ice-cream in summer right. Got the berry kouign amann flavor in waffle and one scoop is good enough for the quantity they give. It has different texture of flavor and this is the first time trying this mixed flavor. I recommend this for sure.
google avatar

Connie M.

Yelp
I waited 30 minutes in line for this mediocre ice cream lol the Tahitian vanilla was really sweet and slightly salty. I didn't find the flavors available to be anything to write home about or exotic. It was worth a try but I wouldn't wait in line again.

Sai Y.

Yelp
I came in on a Tuesday around 5:30pm. I asked for a waffle cone with two scoops. This guy his name is Russel messed up my order so I asked him to please switch it to what I asked for. He gave me attitude and was being very rude. So I said thanks I think I'm gonna go. He says F*** you B*** as I walked out. I walked back in and asked what did you say? He says I called you a b**** and started flipping me off and cussing me out nonstop and screaming. This was horrible and unacceptable.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
Its now a chain and you can tell. There's little enthusiasm of the original store and namesake. There's no element of fun or delight in the presentation, portions or atmosphere. It's very adult, like I should have a tech corporate badge. You'll need a tech job to afford the ice cream but you wont find joy on the menu here.
google avatar

Vaughn S.

Yelp
Worst customer service. We entered at 1:15pm on a Friday. We were the inly customers in the store. The person working asked if we could wait while he finished his break. He then sat down and started playing in his phone. This employee took a lot of steps to take service out of customer service. We left. Didn't order. Dear management, please ask your staff to service the "pesky customers".
google avatar

Kimberly L.

Yelp
Super excited to have this spot open in RWC we definitely need more exciting things like this! Came here after my toddler got his Covid vaccine as a treat There were a good number of options but was looking forward to trying some of the vegan flavors. Kind of annoying that on day 2 of opening they only had 1 flavor...but I bought it anyway. The cups are tiny, probably 2/3 a cup portion but I guess it's good that way haha. The vegan flavor was good (toasted sesame butter and chocolate) but I'm looking forward to going back for more options.

Yelp
Humphry Slocombe is one of my fav ice cream places that serves very good quality and unique flavors. One of my favs is the secret breakfast as it's very sweet, salty, and contains cornflakes/bread crumbs. The single they serve is huge and definitely feels like a double so you do get your moneys worth. Everyone working at Humphry Slocombe is very nice and helpful when answering my questions and would definitely recommend to anyone in the area!
