Love the food here, feels authentic. The food here is mostly spicy but not just hot. Packed with flavors and they use some good combinations of chilies and oil. The egg dish is our favorite. Expect a wait on the weekends. You get unlimited rice with your entrees. Service is fast.

Food is honestly good, my party had the pork with taro, fried eggs, and some sort of fish with some sauce. (I’ve forgotten the names, apologies.) Feels authentic, tastes authentic, especially with the amount of oil I saw in some of the broths and such (This is normalized, especially with me who had a bunch of Asian food with a lot of oil in it) You can tell it’s ran by people who actually know their food, with all the other customers as well. My favorite was the pork with taro, reminds me so much of my aunty’s cooking. Will say that when it’s busy, the waiting is annoying and that it’s kind of crowded and a bit stuffy. Service was actually not bad with how they refilled our water, but honestly don’t expect too much service. Atmosphere was hectic and crowded, which I didn’t really like, but also kind of liked because it felt similar to things I was used to growing up as a little kid. Overall recommend. Just don’t go here for something fancy or like a date or something. I also will say the food here is pretty spicy, just a warning.

One of the most authentic if not the best Hunan Restaurant around. Are the dishes spicy? Yes, even if you ask them to reduce the spiciness level because that's how the dish is made! Are they super authentic? Yes! The sauteed frog, chicken liver, fried bacon with lettuce, water spinach, special rice noodle 9, and fish tofu soup were spot on with great wok smokiness. Service is fast. The atmosphere is lively. The new spot is way smaller than their previous restaurant so there may be a wait.

Coming the culinary desert (where Chinese dishes have small portions with higher prices and many are pre-made), we really like the food here. The dishes are delicious; we've been eating here for three consecutive days after 1-h drive everyday and want to take some back! No service is fine as the food itself is really great.

Super salty. I am from Hunan Changsha and I can tell you that the quality of this restaurant is average. Price is getting higher. The vibe of the place is old school with rural style simple design but that appearance is hard to justify the menu price. For Hunan dishes, I’d recommend the one on Colima in Rowland Heights.

So, carpooling or arriving early might be a good idea, especially for larger groups. For those in our team who aren't accustomed to spicy food, it was crucial to have the dishes adjusted to their liking. Without moderating the spiciness, some found the heat a bit overwhelming. However, the staff was accommodating and happy to modify the spice levels, ensuring everyone could enjoy their meal. Now, onto the highlight of the lunch - the steamed egg (non-spicy)! This dish was an absolute winner, and we couldn't get enough of its velvety smoothness and mouthwatering taste. One thing that stood out throughout the meal was the masterful execution of every dish. Each plate was skillfully stir-fried, resulting in an irresistible aroma that instantly stimulated our appetites. The flavors were top-notch, making it hard to resist going back for seconds (and even thirds!).

It’s not much service here. But the food is awesome! Specially if you enjoy spicy food. We needed to wait for the table when we arrived around 6pm. To me, good food, affordable price, clean place 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Every time I crave Hunan spicy food in LA, this restaurant is always the first one pop up in my mind. Prepare for around 30min-wait for a table during Friday dinner time

The frog legs were still great, as was the water spinach and smoked pork belly. Skip the steamed egg. Service is pretty fast. The atmosphere is lively. The new spot is way smaller than their previous restaurant so there may be a wait.

A really fun spot for spice lovers. The portions are large so come with a group of at least 4 people. All of the dishes here are well-seasoned and heavily spiced, in Chinese we say they are dishes that make you eat lots of rice. The restaurant has a casual setting with new construction so everything looks very airy, clean, and comfortable. The staff is friendly and will make recommendations if you do not know what to order. We got the chili fish head which was a 8/10, the chili pork liver 7/10, a century egg with eggplant and roast chilis 9/10, and a preserved pork with chilis and pickled radish 10/10. I really enjoyed all of the dishes. Hunan cuisine uses a variety of chopped pickled peppers that just have such a savory delicious flavor. Unlike Sichuan food there is no numbing spice. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes.

Great spot. It's where you go if you want a spicy delicious meal. They were so busy when I came. Had to wait a bit despite coming late afternoon. Food was very bold tasting and spicy. If you want flavor in your food, this is the spot to go. Hunan style. Come here for a great time and great food. Food is so spicy, I can eat the leftovers for days and days. Great deal.

人气火爆的一家川菜馆，周五晚上7点半到时都还有3桌，等了20分钟，顺便把菜点了，黄牛肉很赞，两种辣椒的组合增添了不少风味，整体感受很好，牛肉很新鲜，很入味，非常下饭 口味鱼片也是我的菜，辣得不躁，用的是龙利鱼，虽然没有国内的淡水鱼那么那么香，但整体感受还是不错的，盘底曝的白菜非常好吃，两个菜足够两个人吃，花销68美金

We came here around 7:30 and got in 8:30. Party of 5. They fit us in a 4 person table. The table is relatively small. Ain't lot of space to move your hands. Dishes are just okay. Fried eggs is not evenly salty. Shredded cabbage is a bit too salty. Actually most of the dishes except the soup and the fish are a bit too salty for me. Stir fried beef is pretty good tho. Just have to point this one out. For me this place is okay with reasonable price, but not worth the wait tho.

Can't imagine that I can taste so local hunan dishes here! Top recommended. Have to wait for half an hour arriving at 7pm and it keeps coming new customers.

Ordered the chili beef to go. It's my first time ordered food from Hunan Chilli King. I wasn't sure if their food is good or not in the beginning. So I only ordered one dish. The chili beef is very tasty. One thing I like is I can choose the spicy level ( non-spicy, mild, medium, hot and very hot). I chose mild level and the food tastes as expected. The beef is soft and flavorful. My family and I all like this dish. And I will definitely come back again and try other dishes. Note- the portion is pretty big in my opinion. Good for two ppl.

Went here last week with family . Great food , super customer service , affordable price . only a bit too spicy

There must be a reason why this place gets busy all the time! I came here on a Monday lunch around 1:30pm, thankgod there was no wait at that time just couple dirty table to be cleaned to get seated. Everything looked very good and spicy on the menu and it just made me want to order everything! I ended up ordering their house spicy and sour soup noodles, stir fry lamb, and their stir fried chili with preserved eggs. They all tasted great! And it came in decent portion too. I just thought everything was still towards the pricey side. The bill came out to be over $60 with what I ordered. I ended up packing the remaining lamb Togo. Overall, not much service at this place, they are probably understaff most of the time. When you entered the restaurant nobody will acknowledge you until you walk up to the register area.

This place is well known in the Chinese community for their spicy dishes, and there seems to always be a line during dinner time. Our table had a dirty and stained tablecloth from the previous diners and there's no effort to switch out the linen between customers. I was wearing shorts that night and the oil from the dirty cloth got into my legs, gross. Dirty table aside, the food was pricy and pretty salty and greasy. It was flavorful with the chili and spices they use, but I was so thirsty at night from all the salt. We tried 5 dishes, not all were spicy but they definitely know how to make spicy dishes here. Drinks are in the fridge, but the charge is different for each drink. The mung bean drink was $5/cup. Food: - Glass noodles with cabbage: This was really good and the noodles had a lot of flavor. We had it mildly spicy and it was good. Would get this again. - Veggies: Some kind of veggie/root/squash, stir fried. Very oily. - Chili fish filet: This was good, I enjoyed the hot chili pieces on this dish, which was different from the ones found in the chicken dish we ordered. - Soy sauce fried egg: Also very oily, but good flavor. Slightly sweetened. - Chili Chicken: This paired very well with rice. The chilis were really spicy but I still wanted to eat them! - Steamed rice is extra but a must with how spicy/salty/oily everything is. I wouldn't make this place a regular simply for health reasons but it's nice to have a place with authentic Hunan spicy dishes nearby.

This place is popping on even weekday nights ! They give good sized portions , and the food solidly tastes good. Dishes can rack up $$$ quick. Great place for family/friend outings. Good energy in here, service is alright.

Came on a Sunday at 1 and we still had to wait an hour. Turns out that it's because they only had 1 person in the front essentially. You have to get your own drinks from the fridge as well. The food flavor was good, but overall not sure if it was worth the wait. Liver: my favorite dish but it was on the dry side. Wasn't spicy ChiliKing chicken: not TOO spicy, would verbally request more spice if you're used to eating spicy food. There are some small broken bone bits that you should watch out for.

In Los Angeles, almost everyone who loves Hunan cuisine is familiar with Hunan Chili King. Despite its three-star rating on Yelp, this place left an unforgettable impression on me after trying it out. Even at an awkward time like 2 PM, there was still a long line stretching out the door. We waited for at least half an hour, but it was absolutely worth it. If you can't handle spice well, remember to request mild or slightly spicy seasoning, or else it might be too overwhelming. The portions of the dishes were generous. With just four dishes ordered for the two of us, we ended up eating to our heart's content and still had enough leftovers to pack for another meal. Spicy Braised Eggs: Hunan Chili King's version of "Tiger Skin Eggs" was fantastic, both in texture and flavor. It's a perfect companion for rice, and a real treat for the taste buds. Spicy Boneless Chicken: Another dish that pairs exceptionally well with rice. The chicken were incredibly tender, but my only complaint is that it's easy to confuse the chicken cubes with the ginger pieces. Dry Pot Stir-Fried Bamboo Shoots with Preserved Pork: This dish had a strong wok aroma and the bamboo shoots had a satisfying crispness. Cumin Chicken Wings: This dish was a disappointment and hardly recommended by anyone. First, we had to wait for an excessively long time. Secondly, it didn't have the crispy skin I had imagined; instead, it had a flaky texture. The seasoning was also quite average. Proceed with caution and think twice before ordering. Overall, Hunan Chili King offers truly authentic flavors and ranks among the best Hunan cuisine I've had in Los Angeles. If you plan to give it a try, make sure to arrive early to beat the crowds as it can get incredibly popular. While waiting in line, you can even grab a milk tea from the neighboring Yi Fang for a refreshing sip.

Really bad service! Really BAD! It sucks! The waiter a Chinese skinny tall guy is a deaf! When the customer talks to him and ask questions, he ignores everything! Please don't go here and save your time!

We ordered takeout and all plates were good, but didn't over expectation to be honest. Take out price from Fantuan was way more expensive than in store price. Plain egg was $20 lol. I would prefer dine in next time!

The chopped chili fish, from taste to ingredients was poor. The fish was not fresh, had bitter taste. The chopped chili was worse than what you can buy at a supermarket. The mistakenly brought a spicy frog instead of the dry pot frog we ordered, and they refused to admit it was their mistake. The frog was cut into super tiny pieces, with most of it being just filler, you couldn't even taste a few pieces of meat, and it was overpriced! The service was incredibly slow. It's better for them to close down ASAP! 超难吃！！！剁椒鱼头从味道到食材都极差，鱼有苦味，剁椒比超市买的还差！点了一个干锅田鸡，上错泡椒田鸡死不认是自己的错，田鸡切的像红豆那么小，基本就是其他配料，根本不能吃，价钱还贵，上菜还超慢！赶紧关门大吉吧！

Food was good but the issue was the accusing us of not paying the bill when we had paid and walked out. Turns out they made a mistake and charged us for another table but proceeded to yell at us and try to make us in the wrong. Showed the receipt that they charged us already. Ridiculous.

Service is really badly , I orders to to go over the phone , saying need 40 mins , when I was paid bill after 40 Min waiting , still have me wait another 10 mins more , still nothing ,there is still empty tables there ,just didn't offer good service , I will not be here any more . Sucks

Poorass service, waitresses there don't know how to respect their customers, awful attitude, if you don't want to serve your customers then close your restaurant. 不懂的尊重人的服務生讓人唾棄。我們開心來吃飯，請問你是什麼態度？they first assigned a table to us, then let other customers to sit in, when we asked why, the lady(that's in the pic) used terrible attitude to answer us cuz they have other table ready for us(when the customers at that table still eating). We tipped them 5% due to their awful service, then they threatened us to never come to this restaurant again. SURE, WE SHOULDNT EVEN TIP YOU!

每次我去 San Gabriel 真的都不曉得可以吃什麼東西， 我大部分的朋友也是跟我一樣住在 Rowland 崗, 東區這附近， 常常到那，看著路邊黎瑯滿目的餐館，都不知道哪家比較合我的胃口 兩個禮拜前跟獅子會的獅兄姐們來這一家，我自己永遠也不會走進來的店，聽說已經開很久， 在這小有名氣的湖南菜， 可能我不吃辣，但真的有辣，我也吃的下去，這種紅通通的店面， 基本上就不吸引我了，結果還不錯吃呢， 人家裡面也是高朋滿座， 外帶也沒停過，所以今天介紹的比較與眾不同，給愛吃辣辣辣的朋友們! -- eating lunch at Hunan Chilli King 辣椒王.

If you're a fan of bold flavors and chili spices, this is definitely the place for you. The food here is aromatic and mouthwatering. The best dish I've tried from here so far is the chili fish (in the image). The fish is full of flavor and melts in your mouth. Under the layer of fish is boiled cabbage which was also really good! I'd definitely recommend trying this dish but keep in mind that it is pricy ($25)! Aside from the star dish, we also ordered lots of other menu items which were mostly pretty good. Unfortunately, we finished them before I got to take a picture. Based on my memory, i think we ordered a clay pot eggplant, stir fry egg and chilis, stir fry lettuce root, and stir fry bitter melon (not a fan). Come early because seating is minimal and there's often a huge line. You may need to park across the street or in a different plaza also.

Their human food is No 1 in Southern California area. Service is ok. Highly recommend this restaurant.

I've been dining in Chilli King for over 12 years. Their food quality had gone down for a short period of time a few years back. I'm so glad it's back to what it should be. Even though I no longer live in the SGV area, we came here for dinner tonight for a celebration with our good friends. It's worth the long drive. We asked for very spicy because their food is not as spicy as it used to be. But the good news is, all dishes tested differently now. I love all of them. Highly recommend if you love spicy Chinese food.

3.5 stars Came here a few years back and enjoyed the authentic flavors so back for more. Ordered the Preserved egg, eggplant and peppers (mortar and pestle); winner great flavor but a bit greasy and now just served in mortar; no more pestle Sautéed boneless chicken; regular dish was ok only and a bit over cooked Fish fillet with hot sauce; big dish soft fish; yes recommend and nice flavor Sautéed beef w pepper; marinated small pieces of beef w lots of garlic and hot peppers; not bad probably order again House special fried rice; ok only, won't order again Sautéed water spinach; standard nothing special Overall, I think depending on the dishes order can be a great experience; will come back and try different dishes

Don't listen to the 3 star review. This place is as legit as it gets. Spicy spicy spicy -- almost nothing non spicy on the menu. Expect inattentive service but incredible food.

Don't be deterred by the 3 stars, this place is authentic and always packed with a wait. Food is amazing, service is a bit slow - they always seem overwhelmed... which is a sign that the food is great, but you'll have to be a bit patient. It definitely helps to have a Mandarin speaker in the group. Be prepared to handle spice, Hunan cuisine is not for a delicate palette. My husband and our friends usually gravitate towards the same dishes, some of them chosen because we'd see all the other tables order it: 1) sautéed cauliflower with pork skin (chicharones) - Hands down my favorite dish! It's sautéed Chinese cauliflower, which is a bit sweeter and really soaks up the delicious sauce. Paired with the crispy pork rinds, I could easily finish this myself. 2) preserved pork with long bean - we saw many tables order this. It's thin pieces of smoked pork belly, with sautéed long bean which have a great chewy texture. DISCLAIMER: this dish is really salty and is meant to be eaten with mouthfuls of rice shoveled with each bite. 3) eggplant, preserved egg, and pepper - every table had this dish. If you see this brown wooden bowl/mortar, that's what it is. Kind of a creamy consistency with the smashed egg and eggplant. Tasty flavors 4) house special fish filets - super tender pieces of fish over a bed of a cabbage, covered in peppers and a spicy, savory sauce. These filets are like butter. Honorable mention: many people get a stir fry frog dish, it was tender and tasty. I call these dishes "rice killers." As in, you will devour copious amounts of rice with them. This is easily one of my fave places in SGV. The people are friendly, but it's just so busy here that things feel slow. The timing of the dishes coming out was all over the place. They have a fridge where you can grab drinks, or you can get a pitcher of hot black tea. I personally like the glass bottles of soy milk. Parking sucks, but we usually park in the plaza over with SG super store and have no issues.

Out to go place for hunan foods! Super spicy but delicious. My fav is their sauteed boneless chicken. The servers might not be the friendliest but they get the jobs done.

We got crazy and ordered 16 dishes with plenty to take home. It started out pretty good and went down the road of diminishing returns. I have heard Sichuan and Hunan dishes can be rather one dimensional and this was the case. Majority of the dishes were cooked in the same sauce and it became monotonous. I remembered it being a much better place than this. Not sure if the covid situation had an effect for the change of hands or chef.

A popular restaurant with lots of spicy dishes. There are non-spicy dishes available tho if you want, so don't let the name off the restaurant deter you. We were there as guests so we didn't do the ordering, but every dish was plentiful and colorful. I will admit all the spicy dishes taste similar after a while lol. My favorite was their cabbage with the glass noodles. The sliced potatoes dish was also really good and they managed to make it taste not like potatoes at all, but something better!!

One of my favorite Juan restaurants (actually might be TGE favorite). There's always a LONG line and even on weekdays, also goes to show how poplar this place is. The food is very authentic, but VERY spicy. A couple of my favorites are: 辣椒王招牌炒蛋，农家小炒肉. Honestly everything is pretty good as long as you can handle spicy.

First time visiting this restaurant for lunch with a few friends, but the overall experience was slightly below average. The food was a hit-or-miss that day. The stirred fried dishes were ok but they were not as spicy as expected. The chillies were more on the sweet side rather than spicy. Then the fish was a big disappointment. Additionally to the food being average that day, there is absolutely no service. Don't go there with any expectations on services. As of the environment, it is a small restaurant. The tables are very small and majority of them are only suitable for 2 people even though they were trying to seat 4 of us on those small tables. Because of the small space, I would think it gets extremely crowded during peak meal hours. Prepare to wait!

I loved their food as I wasn't able to stop myself. I was sweating all over and I just couldn't stop. The service was great as when I ran out of water I was provided with more without even asking. The interior design was ok but the main star is the food.

The most bad experience I've ever had in LA! We have waiting outside for an hour. There was a waiter came and asked our number on the midway. But when we came to check 20 minutes later, they said they have already called the number at the back door！？WTF？？？They have two doors and put chairs in front of both door. And we were waiting at the front door！WTF THEY DID！？They even didn't call the number at the front door, even they know there are some clients waiting there! And they asked us wait more time, and put another party whose number was behind us to be seated. That is RIDICULOUS！！！This place is like a shit！！！MESS！！！The waiters' attitude are very bad！！！ They think they are the God！！！will never come again！

It's a spicy death but a good one. The Spicy Chicken is chopped-cube niblets with a sweet scorch. Warning: The chicken has bones so be prepared to spit. Sautéed slices of paper-thin Cumin Lamb are also spicy, though not as concentrated as the chicken. Braised Pork and Dried Tofu is my favorite southern signature, something about the texture of firm strips of pork tempered by tender tofu. This spice is almost soothing because of the tofu. Add a side of Garlic A Choy, or a choice of anything veg to break up that burn. There's something to this spice. It's not just spicy, there's great flavors too. I don't know why they have such low ratings - the food is legitimately great!

please allow my exact reenactment of the host: "your number 7, around 20min wait. please wait outside." he said ___20mims later he comes out and calls number 4&5. I ask when will number 7 be ready, because he previously stated an estimate of a 20 mins wait. "ma'am, it's 4,and 5. and then 6, and then it's 7" he relied, as if I don't know how to count. I am not even going to lie, the food itself is very very good, however the service is super disappointing. if you decide to visit this place, be prepared for someone to disrespect you. I strongly suggest the takeout option. During my dining experience, I was missing one vegetable dish, I called the server over for him to give me attitude saying, "哎来了来了来了". which is essentially just a phrase to express impatience and unwillingness. From this, you can clearly reflect on the overall attitude on behave of the rest of his team.

The foods are authentic, very hard to go wrong when anything you order. These are hard to find else where. Be very careful with each order because some dishes are extremely spicy even when you tell them mile. By the way, you need to speak Chinese "Mandarine" if you want to call in for take out. I give 4 of 5 stars because their service, meaning on the call. They would cut you off before you finish your order. And they often don't listen well when you tell them less spicy.

so tasty with the perfect amount of spice! got the fish in hot oil, chili chicken, and scrambled egg with chili - highly recommend all three! the restaurant is pretty crowded, they squeezed a table into every possible nook and cranny, but the service is great! the wait was a bit long, but worth it and will definitely be back to try some other dishes!

I loved coming here for their cumin beef and usually have no issue ordering especially since I do not speak Chinese. I called around 7PM today and after being "on hold" for 10 mins while hearing them helping other customers, they finally came back on the phone and asked what I'd like to order and when I kept repeating my ordering, the girl kept saying in proper English, "okay! Sorry we're so busy" but still proceed to place me "on hold" again for 3 more times and then when they got back to me, the girl just hung up. After calling back again, the girl did the same thing...This never happened to me before and language barrier wasn't the issue so if that's how they treat their customers, I would happily take my money elsewhere! Super rude.

Hunan cuisine is my favorite Chinese cuisine. Yes, there are many! Chinese food is not Chinese food! I was a frequent traveler to China before the pandemic and would always request Hunan cuisine when my suppliers/hosts would ask what I want to eat. For those that do not know, Hunan cuisine is among the spiciest (if not the spiciest) foods in China. If you have seen the Anthony Bourdain eating Sichuan cuisine with his friend in China, Hunan food is right there with Sichuan if not hotter across more dishes. My dishes included: * Fish fillet with hot peppers. Spicy, delicious, tender fish! * Chicken with ginger bits and hot peppers. Spicy, small bits of chicken and ginger, also delicious! * Someone ordered frog with hot peppers. No it doesn't taste like chicken. It is gamier, not as tender, but not bad. Also very spicy! * Mapo Tofu- a signature Hunan dish of soft Tofu in chili oil and red peppers. Great over steamed rice! * A delicious pork item. Don't recall which one but was very good. Not spcy by the way. * I am missing a couple things? * Many Tsingtao beers to cool the heat! This is place is now on my restaurant rotation go to locations!

If you called to go and they said to come pick up in 30 mins. When I got there in 30 mins , they just started making the food and have to wait another 15 mins.

The spicy fish fillet dish here is really good! We ordered the medium spicy but it wasn't that spicy to me. It was really crispy and packed with flavor! The portion is also really big and worth the price! We also ordered the spicy intestines which were also really delicious. They weren't crispy but they were definitely tasty and not gamey at all. I'd definitely come back for the fish fillet!

This place was packed with an hour wait on a Friday night! Parking was impossible in the lot, so I had to park in an adjacent lot in a diff plaza. Hunan cuisine is way too spicy for me!!!! Friends picked this place for a late night dinner, so I didn't really know what to expect. I honestly couldn't handle most of the specialty and main dishes due to the spiciness. I must say that this place is a popular restaurant that serves legit, authentic Hunan cuisine if you can handle the heat, though!! There are non-spicy options too, but those dishes are nothing special. The service was just abysmal. Servers were exceptionally rude and dismissive. The place is also cramped and so dirty. I honestly wouldn't have a reason to come back since I'm not a big fan of Hunan food any way.
