We stumbled upon Hunan Manor during a road trip and made a slight detour to Highland Park, NJ — and it turned out to be one of our best decisions. This Hunan restaurant has been around for years, and now we know why. We ordered a spread that would make any Hunan local smile: - Farmer-style stir-fried pork with green peppers (农家小炒肉) - Stir-fried Hunan bean curd (小炒臭豆腐) - Hunan brine rice noodles (湖南卤粉) - Short ribs with quail eggs - Stir-fried cabbage - Fried yogurt sticks Mid-meal, we realized the “stir-fried stinky tofu” was actually the Hunan-style bean curd. So we added a true Hunan stinky tofu — the black fermented kind. The farmer-style stir-fried pork was exactly what you’d crave if you grew up in Hunan: spicy, oily, thinly sliced pork with fragrant green peppers. It delivered full nostalgia. The stir-fried bean curd was also on point — from the finely minced pork and pickled black bean curd (豆豉) to the pickled red chilies (剁辣椒) and scallions, every bite was authentic and well seasoned. The short ribs with quail eggs, however, didn’t quite land. The ribs were okay, but forgettable, and the quail eggs had a texture that didn’t quite work. The stir-fried cabbage, on the other hand, was a sleeper hit: spicy, crunchy, juicy, and served bubbling hot in a stainless steel pot over a flame — a presentation you often find in Chinese dining. The Hunan brine noodles were stellar, with fried peanuts in their red skins and tender beef shank slices adding flavor and richness. The fried yogurt was a near win. The inside was warm, flowing, creamy — but the outer crust could have been crisper and richer. As for the black stinky tofu, they made a sincere effort. It came with the classic garlic and pickled chili sauce and even had the signature slit cut into the tofu to absorb flavor — just like in Hunan. Still, the tofu texture was a bit too firm compared to the perfect crispy-outside, tender-inside balance of the original. The interior décor is ornate and atmospheric, with velvet chairs, warm lighting, and elegant round tables — perfect for group dining. Service was incredibly fast — dishes started arriving before we even finished ordering. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but the authenticity, speed, and flavor make it absolutely worth it. If you’re craving real Hunan food outside of China, this place deserves your attention.

I really love this traditional Chinese food restaurant! It's one of the few places I visit at least once a week or take out. The food is always fresh, delicious, and authentically prepared, reminding me of home-cooked meals. This restaurant will never let me down. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a genuine taste of traditional Chinese cuisine!

Google
I've liked it since my first visit. Although I didn't get to try the spicy fish head on my first visit, I enjoyed the delicious trotters and whole fish with chopped chili. This time, I made an early reservation for the spicy fish head, and finally got to taste it! It's a great restaurant, highly recommended to everyone.

First time coming here for lunch. Ordered the hunan fried rice-was a little spicy but tolerable 9.5/10. Japanese tofu sizzling plate-tofu was soft and flavorful 9/10. Sliced fish with chili sauce-soft fish, crunchy broccoli, nothing remarkable but was tasty nonetheless 8/10. Will definitely be coming back.

The Hunan cuisine at this restaurant is very authentic. Whether it's the signature fish, braised pork, or marinated noodles, everything is delicious. The dishes are served quickly, and you can taste the freshness of the stir-fry. Additionally, the service and ambiance are both great, making this restaurant highly recommended.

The Hunan dishes here are authentic and flavorful. The spice level is just right, and the taste really reminds me of home-style cooking. Definitely worth a try.

Google
Used to order food delivery every week, they serve very authentic Hunan style cuisines, like pickled radish, sour long bean with minced pork, steamed fish with chopped chill. Recently, I had a great experience dining in. The restaurant is quite spacious and good for gathering with friends and family, and the dishes taste better - they have more of that fresh-from-the-wok flavor

Google
Went for lunch and the food was very good. The service could have been a little better if they were more polite but all in all a great experience. One hundred percent recommend the shredded beef with peppers and the spicy fish filets. Absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend stopping by this place. Now for my standard COVID comments as of March 2022. Interior is clean and seating is nice and spaced. All employees are wearing masks. We felt safe as we ate indoors.

Yelp
Super delicious spot. Came for New Year's with a party of five and we were able to get seated immediately without a reservation. Parking was a little tight but we made it. Restaurant is well-decorated and clean, felt like an upscale place. Our waiter warned us service would be a bit slow as the restaurant was brimming. There's a large menu, where you seemingly can't go wrong with any dish that you order. I really loved the century egg, the fish, and the pork with dried radish. Their Mao style braised pork is also divine. I enjoyed everything we ordered and service was good. Would love to come back.

Yelp
Traditional Chinese food. I know this place from my friends and neighbors. Now I visit there at least once a week!

Yelp
Stinky tofu w/ minced pork & chili (小炒臭豆腐) 5/5, made with the light colored Shanghai style stinky tofu. It smells pretty stinky, but tastes just like regular tofu but more umami. Steamed fish head w/ chopped chili (剁椒鱼头) 4/5. Good flavor, a LOT of bones... Preserved beef w/ white chili (白辣椒腊牛肉) 4/5, preserved beef is home made, pretty flavorful but dry. Mustard leaf Hunan style (湖南雪里蕻) 4/5, really refreshing stir fried greens, but a little bland.

Yelp
I still love the traditional Hunan spicy and salty food in this restaurant, been here many times before pandemic, they still keep the same taste as before , this restaurant has nice service just good enough , a little bit old fashioned Chinese style decorations make you enjoy more as you could feel you were in some other country . Go and try the food . See if you like it.

Yelp
Hold the PHONE and change the number to calling Hunan Manor for reservations or pickup. We were thinking of grabbing Indian this cold rainy day but actually wanted to try something a little different and new. We heard about this place recently and decided it was worth the 50 minute drive. GUYS- ALMOST ONE HOUR DRIVE and I'm looking forward to doing it again. Read to find out why. Keep in mind, my husband and I are pretty adventurous so we wanted to try some funky things on the menu a standard American would not normally eat. Here's what we ordered. Food: Starters. 1.) Thin sliced pork belly with spicy sauce. YUM! I've never heard of fresh steamed pork belly. It's served on this cute bamboo mini drying rack. Not only a pleasant display but delicious and flavorful. The dipping sauce was unlike anything I've ever had. Chili, not too spicy, oily goodness. 2.) Preserved Eggs, I'm not sure where to begin with these. They look very interesting and are possibly my favorite appetizer I've ever eaten. They texture is marvelous but not for the faint of heart as the eggs do look 'preserved.' But once you bite into these jellicious love pockets, you wont regret it. A seriously delicious unique dish. Main Course. 1.) I ordered the frog hot plate. Now this dish is spicy, the type that will burn your mouth off, but in a sick and twisted way, I loved it. The only thing I'd mention is it had a LOT of tiny bones. Something to keep in mind as Hunan Food is served different then most foods I'm used too. I should of asked about how the frog was served as I could of done without the mini bones. 2.) The Beef Elbow. You read that right, BEEF ELBOW. Guys, I can't even begin to describe this dish. It was like a creamy coated, tender, fall of the bone beef joint of heaven (ha!). I highly-highly recommend trying this dish. It was massive and one of a kind delicious. We ordered it 'not too spicy.' We had pleanty to take home and enjoy later too. Dessert. We ordered the red beans pastries. I actually grew up having the Korean version of these so I knew what these were going to taste like for the most part. Their little drizzle of honey on top of these cuties sends them home with the gold. Atmosphere: The place is super charming. They have lovely architecture and a homey feel. I think the waistaff is the luck of draw. Some of the staff seem to be missing as much charismatic abilities as others but I do think it's a language barrier. It seemed like this restaurant attracts a lot of native Hunan folks, so I can't blame them for hiring some staff to support that! Overall I'd highly recommend this spot to people who like to try new things. It was a tasty slice of Asia that I can't wait to show to friends and family. Simply delicious, super different, and an enjoyable evening. I'll be coming back for menu exploring, and definitely those good ol' preserved eggs!

Yelp
Used to be good ~5 years ago Now it's completely joke - rediculous dish size, arrogant employee Imagine for a group of 9, dishes came in one by one with 5 mins in between, you are just embarrassing yourself Meanwhile their kitchen employees having their own whole table dishes lunch - should I serve you instead? There are plenty of good Chinese restaurants around Go somewhere else

Yelp
Party of 11 walks in on a Monday afternoon. No we didn't make reservations and somehow was able to fit ourselves in their small dedicated parking lot. Staff did not try to hide their annoyance. Not tons of customers but they didn't want to merge some tables together for us so we were squashed in one round table in the back. They do have high chairs so that was good for the kiddo. We ordered 10 dishes, which came with 10 bowls of rice. We're mostly northerners, so only 3 of our dishes were actually spicy, and maybe that's why, but most things ranged from bland to tasteless. And the spicy ones (the good stuff) was too much for us. The better ones were basket popcorn chicken (spicy) and the pork belly chunks (lightly sweetened). Their also known for their shredded potato (with egg yolk), and the favorite was alcoholic tapioca desert soup, but I didn't have any. The hanging white meat rack and the riced baby back ribs were the least popular. And the spicy rice noodle was like 90% peppers (for flavor) and not much actual substance. Overall there's not much good finds for a large, non-spice enjoying party, but its fast, cheap, and local to the area. And since it was my cousin footing the bill (poor Rutgers student), the place served sufficiently for our lunch event.

Yelp
Haven't been there for a while since Covid. The food is tasty as always. Love the fish soup a lot. You won't find any original Hunan style restaurant like Hunan Manor in this area. Highly recommend for spicy food lovers.

Yelp
My fiance and I visited this place for the first time on a Saturday evening for dinner. Parking wasn't too difficult as there were plenty of street metered parking spots. We got in around 6pm and were seated right away. SERVICE - Friendly bi-lingual (English & Chinese) staff. Food came out pretty quickly. DECOR - Beautiful Asian-themed interior that feels very intimate and cozy with partitions in between seating areas. Good for parties of any sizes. FOOD - Hit or miss! A bit pricey for their basic/quite ordinary ingredients but you do get good portions. I love that the menu has a bunch of pictures!! [SLICED PORK BELLY IN SPICY GARLIC SAUCE WITH CUCUMBER 晾杆白肉] - $10.95 - Large slices of pork belly. The cucumber complements these very well! Sauce is very tasty and not too spicy. Great for sharing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! [CHINESE YAM WITH PORK RIB SOUP 山藥?骨湯] - $14.95 - Very flavorful and rich broth that's refreshing at the same time. My favorite dish out of everything we tried! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! [STEAMED EGGPLANT WITH SALTED EGG YOLK 鹹蛋黃蒸茄子] - $15.95 - This dish is pretty heavy with grease and overly salty. But has good flavor and good with rice. Kinda expensive tho for an eggplant? [BRAISED PORK BELLY MAO'S STYLE 毛式紅燒肉] - Nowhere near as tender as what we expected. These are actually kinda tough and dry. And NOT spicy at all. I guess that is Mao's style :p [SAUTEED SLICED BEEF WITH FRESH CHILI 小炒黃牛肉] - $18.95 - Spicy! Very flavorful. The fiance liked this a lot but it was too salty for me. Good with rice. [SAUTEED SPICY CAULIFLOWER 有機花菜] - $14.95 - Mildly spicy, nice flavor with the chili. [ICE JELLY WITH BROWN SUGAR 桂花冰粉] - $4.95 - I like the brown sugar and the dried raisin toppings, however the jelly itself has no taste or flavor. Would make a very refreshing dessert for the summer time. Overall we enjoyed our meal, especially the appetizers. Would like to come back and try some more dishes! (They do have a large menu)

Yelp
Classy place for hunan food. The decor is very ancient chinese looking. The service is pretty good But might be intimidating for non chinese people. We got the beef dish and the lamb in hot sauce stew. Each one was delicious spicy and salty. You need to eat with rice. Go with the cauliflower and the string bean dish for veggies. Everything is family style here.

Yelp
Everyone, meet my son, his middle name is "Spicy". Yes, he loves anything spicy and this is his favorite restaurant. If he could eat here everyday, he would. We have been coming here for years. The owner is very nice and the staff, well, I am biased about them. I read lots of negative reviews on service but for me, they are the most darling group of guys that always make sure that we have a wonderful meal each time we dine here. I know them all by name. I strongly recommend that you order from their regular menu. Their lunch menu is fine but to truly taste their amazing dishes, you should order from the regular menu if this is your first time here. The reason why we love eating here, the chef has a knack for picking the right chili peppers for each dish that he creates. You might order three different spicy dishes but each dish will surprise you. One might be a numbing spice, another with a hint of sweetness and another might not hit you in the back of the tongue until later. Aside from the regular menu, there is a separate menu that the chef has created. I think he likes to experiment with creating new dishes. Tonight, we tried one of his newest creations, Trio of Mushrooms Stew Pork Tripe. There was a kick to it which was surprisingly delish with a hint of ginger. We have just about tried every dish on the menu. There are a few misses for us, but overall, all the other dishes are amazing. Tonight, one of the waiters surprised us with some dessert (Sweet Snow Fungus Soup). It was the perfect ending to a spicy meal, very refreshing. FYI, snow fungus is great for boosting the collagen in your skin. Why do you think Asians look so young? I made sure to eat all the snow fungus in my bowl. Note: Due to the many negative reviews on their soup dumplings, we have never tried it. So, no comment.

Yelp
I came here for lunch on a Sunday. There's not many authentic Hunanese restaurants in NJ so it was great to check this place out. My family is Hunanese and they believe it's only spicy enough if you're actually sweating at the table while eating. We ordered the water boiled fish, sautéed string beans, sour string beans with pork, Chinese bacon with leeks, spicy noodles, and the smoked duck. The dishes were all cooked very well. Everything was very spicy and flavorful. I especially like the string bean dishes and the duck. The duck skin was perfectly crispy. The portions were large since it's a Chinese restaurant after all. Too bad this place is a bit far or else we should come here more often.

Yelp
The interior is very beautiful with plenty of seating for group or intimate parties. This seems to be a very popular spot on Friday evenings for a younger crowd, which maybe why there no alcohol on the menu. With such a fancy interior I was shocked that the beverages were canned. We started with the dumplings. We both wanted to try an authentic appetizer. The dumplings quickly fell apart upon grabbing them, they seemed a little quickly put together and not steamed completely. The pork seemed a little undercooked. The service seemed a little clumsy. My friend's soup came out about 3-4 minutes before my food arrived and there was no communication on when my food was to arrive. He went for something authentic, which he truly enjoyed. They warned him that the food is typically very spicy but they would adjust it for him and they did. I went American Chinese, a dish I tend to get often, it lacked flavor. The beans seemed a little over cooked, the chicken had no flavor but it was all drowning in what appeared to be a red bean curd sauce. I left unsatisfied.

Yelp
Good authentic food and decent prices. Hunanese cuisine is somewhat under appreciated in the states though it is famous in China. My grandma used to cook it authentic for me when I was a kid. Its a bit different from Sichuan food. Less grease. Less of that numbing hot Sichuan peppercorn. For hunanese food I remember lots of freshly diced peppers, pickled veggies and surprisingly tasty off the beaten path stuff like pig ears and Chinese beef jerky. This restaurant is pretty authentic from what I can tell. Braised pork aka hong sao ro is probably the gold standard to judge a Hunan restaurant. It was consistently very tasty here. Super tender and just the right amount of flavor. No gameyness or meat pungency. Pretty decent price point too. $14.95 for a big dish. This restaurant is great when it comes to the reasonable prices for the good quality food. They are well run and have restaurants in Manhattan and Flushing. One exception to the good prices is the veggie dishes. I think I saw stir fried cabbage on the menu for $12. No thanks. I'll munch an apple when I get home. They have an delicious and unique eggplant with preserved egg yolk dish. Not the healthiest eggplant dish ever but yummy for sure. Spicy fish in chili sauce soup is pretty standard Sichuan fare you can get at any number of Sichuan restaurants. I'm not the biggest fan because of the high grease level and the overwhelming peppercorn numbing hot flavor. I much preferred the stinky tofu with minced pork and chili. The tofu wasn't overwhelmingly stinky but the overall taste was great. These little stir fried dishes with fresh diced chili and veggies and meat capture the heart of Hunan cooking. They have a lot of interesting and I bet tasty things on the menu to explore that you don't see at your typical mc-sichuan restaurant.

Yelp
The restaurant has a nice balance. It's nice without being overly formal. Upscale but casual. The service was excellent! We only got 2 dishes and an appetizer, so I can't comment on a lot of the food, but the spring rolls were the best I ever had. We also got broccoli with garlic sauce an sizzling seafood. Both were delicious! My only complaint is minor. The seafood had fake crab in it. It was still good, but it kind of cheapened the dish. If I am ever in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to return.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. They have a bunch of things that are on my food bucket list. The soup dumplings were delicious, as were the entrees we tried. Very authentic, not Americanized.

Yelp
The shrimp was inedible. Hard and firm. Do not order any of the shrimp dishes especially not during Corona. I ordered the seafood sizzling hot plate. It was alright. It wasn't worth driving for frozen hard shrimp.

Yelp
Great place to come with family to try Hunan style Chinese food! Came here on a quiet evening with my immediate family. Beautiful wooden cabinets, screens, and delicate artwork line each wall. Neon lights shine through the curvatures in the ceiling to create a dim yet moody atmosphere. Service was somewhat quick and non-descript; there wasn't much opportunity for questions or conversation. The food, in general, is well-made, balanced, and flavorful. One of my favorites was the pork belly with preserved vegetables- the wilted dark vegetables soaked up the savory juices of the pork to give a salty and savory flavor punch on top of a delectably soft, tender cut of pork. I'd definitely come back here for some quality Chinese food. Would recommend for a nice sit down dinner date.

Yelp
Awesome! I don't care about those bad reviews, I love this restaurant. As a Chinese native, I highly recommend this restaurant. Let's see, what's good about this restaurant? Great ambience: good music taste and not too loud; good use of LED lights; great furniture; overall great cleanliness and stylish upholstery. Lightning-fast, highly responsive service: first dish came up within two minutes of ordering tasting fantastic. I didn't go hungry for more than three minutes after arriving at this place. Didn't have to wait for more than ten seconds for waiter to come over after calling on him. The food, let's just say, is fantastic. Fresh, good balance of spices, not just one of those where they use spiciness and a lot of lettuce to cover up the mess of the frozen fish filets or porkchops. In conclusion, this is the best Hunan restaurant I've been to in the United States!

Yelp
Our go-to nice Chinese restaurant. We always try a little something new every time we go, and everything is delicious. One of our go-to's is the stir-fried cured pork with leeks. The menu price-wise is a tad higher than average on first glance, but portion sizes and quality make it quite fair.
google avatar

Shanise C.

Yelp
My friends and I didn't even plan to come to this place. We went to another restaurant and the wait was too long. I looked up another restaurant we could go to and I found this gem by fluke. You would never believe it's as nice as it is on the inside from the outside. It definitely gives off that "fine dining" ambiance. We were automatically seated. Didn't have to wait long for our food to come. Very tasty, by the way. I would definitely come back to this place. The only thing that sucked was that they don't have a variety of drinks to choose from. They have a whole bunch of soda options, but I'm not a soda drink at all. They offer hot tea and brisk ice tea. Nonetheless, I'll be returning again soon.
google avatar

Yelp
I was told they offer real Chinese food. Definitely worth to try if you like spicy food. Amazing taste, price is above average. The only thing is their location, far and hard to park.
google avatar

Yelp
Great authentic Hunan food. If you are looking for authentic Hunan food, this place is great. They definitely nailed the flavor profiles. I can't say for American Chinese food options. The decor is nice. It is a touch of traditional and modern. It is refreshing considering the typical dated decor most Chinese restaurants has. The decor is good enough to bring a date(if they like this kind of food). Place is clean. Service was okay. Definitely a plus if you speak Chinese.

Lei Y.

Yelp
It's definitely not cheap, and the portion is not up to some Chinese restaurants, but not too small. All dishes we ordered look nice, and taste very good and authentic. Service is also great. I would definitely visit another time and try some other dishes.

Yelp
Nice Hunan cuisine place with traditional Chinese decoration and cozy vibe. Service was attentive but noise level might be a bit high. Food was satisfactory. Particularly recommended were Mei Fun (spicy rice noodles) and their seasonal winter clay pot dishes (we had a richly seasoned lamb and daikon pot). The spicy pork intestines were a bit disappointing. The desserts featured a freshly baked red bean puree cakes.

Yelp
This spot is the place to be if you are looking for tasty and authentic food! This is my family's go to spot and we always bring guests with us because this place never disappoints. The quality is always great and servers are very personable and know our orders at this point. Highly recommend!

Yelp
As mentioned before, service is kind of iffy but not thaaaat bad. The food is really good though -- bring a total spice lover, all of the dishes we ordered were spicy but they were all authentically spicy and super satisfactory. It basically lit up my tastebuds and not many restaurants strive to do that, even though they claim their dishes are spicy. I recommend trying this place out and ordering their hunan spicy dishes!!

Yelp
I was invited to dinner by a couple of friends who told me that this was a Michelin star restaurant. Say no more, I'm in there like swimwear. I walked in, and the first thing I noticed was that there was no host/hostess helping with seating. I essentially walked in and sat myself down where my friends were. We were offered a complimentary pot of tea, but were not asked if we wanted any drinks at all. On top of that, we waited 15-20 minutes, and even then we flagged down our waiter to take our order. People that came in after us had already gotten their orders. One of my friends ordered the Hunan Chicken, another friend had gotten the Pork Soup Dumplings, and I also got the Pork Soup Dumplings with scallion pancakes. The scallion pancakes came out within about 10 minutes, but the rest of our food took a bit to come out. Keep in mind that we still hadn't been asked what drinks we wanted. My friend that had ordered the Hunan Chicken thought the chicken tasted was fresh. However, it was not spicy, as advertised. Additionally, she found a caterpillar (wish I was making this up) in her food, which is certainly more protein than she bargained for. They took it back to the kitchen and did not charge for her for it. She ended up ordering scallion pancakes as a substitute, but hers came out greasier than mine did. I thought that, sans the grease, the scallion pancakes were probably the better part of the meal. Finally, the pork dumplings. Honestly, I've had better. It was a strange texture - very hard to bite into, and not as soupy as other dumplings I've had. Perhaps I'm not well versed on what dumplings should taste like, but this didn't seem right. The sauce that came with it certainly didn't help either. At one point, I was just eating not for enjoyment, but because I didn't want to waste the food. My other friend who had the dumplings felt the same way. After all of this, we still had no drinks to wash down what I felt was a mediocre meal. Once again we had to flag down a waiter to get a check, which no one had come to pick. After 15 or so minutes we had to walk it up to the cashier/host area to finish the transaction. All in all, I truly found this dining experience to be a let down. It may have been MIchelin recommended, but I will not recommending this place anytime soon. There is a lot of improvement to be made here. In the meantime, if you're looking for a soup dumpling fix, drive further down 27 and go to Shanghai Dumpling House.

Yelp
Ordered Stinky Tofu and Soup Dumpling (xiaolongbao)today. Stinky Tofu are very thinly sliced, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, or it was suppose to be. The frying was too much, to the point that it felt like chewing bathroom tiles. crispy and rockhard are two different concepts. The soup dumpling. 6 dumplings, only 1 had soup inside. It was not much better than frozen ones at the super market. would be cheaper too. the vinegar has no ginger either. Overall, all I can say is that Michelin makes good tires. Food-wise, it was edible, but certainly not worth the price. Maybe those were not their signature dishes, but if you wanna sell tires, you gotta hold everything up to a standard.

Yelp
It's a bit tough putting four stars for this place, and if there were a three star option I would totally use it. Looking at other reviews I could see what they were talking about, but I have to say that my experience was solidly 3-3.5 stars, no more or less. I came here for lunch today with my mom and her friend. My mom ordered (so I don't know what the dishes' names are, or how much they were) an appetizer of sliced beef, as well as some type of cold and sliced cucumber in dressing. We also got an egg dish,a big pot of soup with some chicken in it, and a fried fish. The sliced beef appetizer was pretty good. It had solid flavor and was not overly dry. The cucumbers were also nice, and the cold and crunchy textures provided a nice bite. The egg dish was horrible. Lacking any and all flavor, I would never get it again. The soup with chicken was interesting. At first there's not much flavor, but you keep coming back because the flavor is strong enough to get you hooked. It's light and tasty and easy to just keep sipping. Comes in a big cauldron looking thing. Lastly, the fish. It came with a ton of chili peppers and garlic on top of it, all of which we scooped off. Despite being bathed in chili, the meat wasn't very spicy (which is fine with me!). However, it wasn't very tasty, either. The fish was very crunchy, but I suspect the fish wasn't fresh so the crunchiness hid that fact. All in all, I guess I would come back. Certainly wouldn't be a first choice by any means, but it's decent. Again, I didn't see the prices (and I saw another review complain about higher-than-average prices), but the food was good enough.

Yelp
Bottom line first: This is a solid place to get decently authentic-tasting Chinese food. Additional notes: - The portions can feel a bit smaller here than what you might typically expect from a Chinese place - But! You get more refined interior decor and serveware/presentation - And if you order anything spicy, it'll probably end up looking like this after you're done (see photo) - with a pile of green peppers left over in each dish...Is that the only thing they use?

Yelp
I am Chinese and I like spicy food. This place has pretty good HuNan style food. They have chain stores in Manhattan and Flushing. Although there is a little different style. We had group dinner here. Reserved the table with the owner directly and sit at the round table right away. We tried a lot of stuff. The frog, the fish, the eel, the pork elbow, the eggplant, the stinky tofu, the mushrooms, the spicy scramble eggs, the soup MiFen. Pretty authentic stuff.

Yelp
Personally, I've developed a craving for this place that urges me to order from them at least once a month. However, Chinese food encompasses a wide range of local specialties and people from different regions would also have specific tastes/preferences, so it can be a little irresponsible to say Hunan Manor is the best Chinese restaurant. For that reason, I would only say it's the top three Chinese restaurants within a 30-minute driving distance. They surely combined the authenticity with the deliciousness quite well; many dishes are exactly what you should expect if you are dining in China. Definitely recommend this place if you want to try some authentic, spicy yet tasty Chinese food. However, as said before, many of their food contains peppercorns and chilies, so you might need to be sure you can handle the spiciness before a visit there, or you should at least consult them for less/non-spicy dishes.

Yelp
Food is decent, however the quantity is so small and when I mentioned to them, they don't care and take it for granted, ok, not recommended as it's low value for your money.

Yelp
I am giving this a 3-star rating due to mixed experiences of my family. I am more expanded culinary palate but wife keeps a narrow palate. My son is still developing his. I had the cumin lamb which I thought was amazing. My son had General Tso Chicken which he thought was ok. My wife ordered the chicken with mixed vegetables which was disappointing. While she was expecting a mix of many vegetables as is the standard at every other restaurant, The vegetables were only broccolli and a few pieces of peppers. That is it. The restaurant confirmed this is what their "mixed" vegetables are.

Yelp
On revisit, I found the service particularly disappointing. The food continued to be very salty, but this is a minor point. There was a broad sense of resignation and capped effort by multiple staff members to address any issue we brought up including delayed dishes and inquiries about their preparation. For all the staff present, there is an incredible absence altogether. Tea needs to be frequently requested. The bill needed to be self-brought to the front register since all the staff eating in the back have forgotten you're there. Someone is on his laptop. Most notably our braised pork was an insulting experience, whereby more than half out slices were entirely of fat. Brought to the attention of servers, there was no interest in addressing the matter further. 'This is what you ordered, isn't it? Perhaps next time ask for leaner braised pork?' Next time.

Yelp
Terrible! I have went this restaurant for more than 3 years, and this time I went back the restroom was stinky and disgusting. We even found an insect in the first dish we ordered. What even worse was when I asked the waiter to change the dish, he was very impatient and asked me what I want. Well I want nothing but a fair review to everyone. Watch out dear customers!!

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic Hunan food, this is then place. Avoid the lamb. Service is lacking but food makes up for it. - Mao braised pork: One of the top Chinese pork belly dish I've had. Pork belly was cooked to perfection, where the lean parts were not dry. Sauce is amazing for mixing with rice. - Duck in dry wok: As authentic as it gets, super spicy and flavorful. I can't wait to try their other variations - Sautéed lamb with hot peppers: This was the weakest link and gets a star knocked off. Tasted like cornstarched American Chinese beef rather than lamb.

Yelp
I got takeout from here last week. It was not good. I had Shrimp with Garlic Sauce. It was simply the worst Chinese dish I ever had. First it was overflow with this oily sauce. Ordered medium spicy and had no spice at all. Bland weird tasting dish. My spouse had Beef with green chili. He ordered also medium spicy and his dish was super spicy. His dish tasted a bit better than mine. But it's hard to know how spicy to order something when the same spiciness is different. Third dish was a seafood noodle dish. It was just okay. A bit strange tasting with little seafood. I would not recommend this place.

Yelp
Nice authentic cuisine with quality meat and flavor. Worth price and so tasty that sets it apart from mix match cheap Chinese. Must try all items on menu

Yelp
Never going to eat here again. Food is bland and service is hard to get. Smoked duck has little to no smoked flavor and was a bit on the rare side. The soup with Chinese yams and pork ribs tasted like scallions in water. The sweet and sour fish tasted like it was made with lemons instead of vinegar. The soup dumplings were not fully cooked. As for service, there seemed to be 3 people working outside the kitchen and it was difficult to get their attention for anything from refilling the tea pot with hot water to getting the bill so that we could leave. Also, watch out where you park. They have their own parking lot, but it's small and people may park behind you so that you are stuck.

Yelp
I was impressed with the food during my first visit to this restaurant a few months ago, especially their spicy crab. So we decided to come here again for my dad's birthday. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. Food: They didn't have the spicy crab we wanted. 2 out of 4 dishes we ordered were not hot, we had to wait for one of the dish to heat up with the little burner they placed on the bottom. The white rice was hard and warm. Service: not professional. not once did anyone come over to check how the food was or if we needed anything.

Yelp
Authentic, and high quality Hunan, refined utensils an decor. not your typical American-chinese diner. I grew up in Human, this place is exactly the taste I remembered.

Yelp
Traditional Hunan cuisine, the dishes are suppose to go along with rice, as to why Hunan cuisine falls on the salty side. However if you are a health freak, you should request for less salt and oil instead of complaining about it afterwards. I like the dishes the way it is because I am originally from Hunan and love spicy cuisine. Hunan manor is a sister store of Hunan house in NYC, and it's great that they have opened one in NJ. This neighborhood location is probably as close as you can get to a home cooked meal. The service is fine, I've seen a review about a problem with requesting a bigger table and giving this place a one star not based on the food..lol Recommendations: 1. steamed fish head in chili oil, request for noodles to dip it in the sauce afterwards! 2. Sour string bean with minced pork 3. Green peppers with eggplant and duck egg

Yelp
pros: flavor are pretty good and typical Hunan flavor, material is fresh and environment is nice, a few large table can accommodate 8 people at comfortable level. small tables fit 2-3 people in there. service are good, girls are better than boys in general, boys short of greeting and smiling. cons: price seems go up in these two years, quantity reduced too. I should give it 4 start but 3 this year for this reason.

Yelp
Great authentic Chinese food. If you like the spicier version of Chinese food, then this is the place for you.

Yelp
I sincerely hope people who eat chicken and broccoli do not come to this kind of place...Panda express is just around the corner please go there or one of the Hibachi place... This place has some tasty dishes but bad service. Been there couple of times and love the authentic flavor since we all know it's hard to find a place in Jersey to experience real good Chinese food, only places we have here are some Shanghai/Hunan/Lotus Gardens...

Yelp
Never, never eat there. The waitress there asked me to give her more tips. I consumed about 120 dollar. I gave her 135 in total. She told me that I need to paid at least 140 dollar. She wouldn't let me go until I gave her money. I was shocked. Robber!

Yelp
Food is good. However, the portion of food especially the take-out food is so bad compared to its price. There are a lot good Chinese restaurants in Edison now which have good food and good price. Will not come back again.
