We used to love coming here but the food today was really not good. Appetitizers were somehow almost burned, undercooked and raw and seemed freezer burned. They lacked flavor and freshness. The dough parts were raw and stretchy. General tsao chicken had great flavor but breading seemed dry and the inside seemed old and over cooked. Sawdust for chicken inside. NOTHING like it used to be. Our server was really nice and attentive. We won't be back.

Our family loved hunan springs! On our way to the table we passed a large salt water fish tank. The large, round dinner table had a spinning tray to facilitate share food. Our waitress took care of our entire table by herself and always made sure our drinks were full! To start, they bring out fried wonton and a variety of dipping bowls, beware of the light colored one as it contains an ample serving of wasabi. The portions were HUGE and everyone in our party enjoyed their dishes. They are served with large bowls of rice on the side. I highly recommend the Pu Pu platter to taste a sampling of appetizers including egg rolls, fried 🦐, and sticks of bacon and pineapple. For dessert, they bring bowls of pineapple and cookies fortune! We will definitely go back!

Got there at exactly 430 when they opened customer service I felt a spot on our waitress was wonderful. Checked on us frequently, but not too much and had a very happy personality. The restaurant was definitely clean. Seem to get busy fairly quick. All the staff did seem nice. A variety of food for the restaurant that all sounded very appetizing and delicious. I know my food was absolutely wonderful. I ordered a steak that was cooked perfect in the atmosphere was very nice and very pleasant. The cost was reasonable as the food was very much worth it! There is also a nice little bar here where you can sit and eat as well!

Google
Not your your average Chinese Food Restaurant! Very generous portions with phenomenal service! I really enjoyed the atmosphere, as one may not typically anticipate the interior decor! The food certainly was exquisite & I did not leave hungry whatsoever! This is a great place to have a party with friends because it is a relaxed yet intriguing environment to dine at! I highly recommend stopping in here to see exactly what Hunan Springs has to offer!

Casual friendly atmosphere. Service was great and food was delicious! Good sized portions. Was able to order multiple dishes for family style eating - no prob. Will be returning.

Google
Food was good overall. All the dishes. We're good except for the shrimp being a little tough because they were overcooked. The sweet cucumber slices are amazing. I would eat those everyday. The wonton soup was really good because they had house made wontons which are always good. The dumplings were house made too, very good. Wish the shrimp had been better because we love shrimp. The restaurant is very nice inside and the service was great. Great staff.

Google
Stopped here for Sunday dinner while in town visiting family. This beautiful historic building houses top notch Asian cuisine. Out of the huge menu offerings, I picked the Thai Delight. Unbelievable combination of Chicken, Beef, Shrimp sautéed in pineapple, and veggies in a spicy sha-cha sauce. You get the sweet from the pineapple and the slight heat from the sauce. Great! My wife had the Chicken and Broccoli which was also a generous portion. Outstanding service from Peter. Plenty of parking in the rear. A must stop in the Allentown area.

Google
The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is so friendly. Service is fantastic! But most importantly, their food is to die for. Also, you get free fried wonton noodles with two dipping sauces, for your eating pleasure. I highly recommend coming here

Yelp
After a year, my girlfriend and I had the pleasure of returning to Hunan Springs. The interior is full of flavor and texture, and the dark wood contributes to the comfort level. Alice took care of us and she was absolutely wonderful. Kind and helpful, her recommendations were spot on -- as well as the dry martinis she served. My girlfriend had the sweet and sour chicken, which was both plentiful and tasty. The chicken was fresh and tender. The sauce was plentiful and well balanced. She also got a plate of the vegetable lo mein, which was light and delicious. Thanks to Alice's recommendation, I ordered the lobster special with ginger and scallion. When I order sushi and it's phenomenal, I close my eyes and embrace it. Now, this lobster was so perfectly prepared and came with such a delectable taste, I did the same thing. After dinner, we shared a dessert that filled in any gaps we had left. We departed with leftovers (sans lobster), full bellies, and happy hearts as well as an incredible desire to return to one of the area's best restaurants.

Yelp
I'm going all the way because this place is above average and it is very difficult to find good Chinese food (or American/Chinese). I came here with friends, and since they recommended this place, I felt comfortable ordering. I got some wings, fried rice, lo mein, general tso (or T-S-O), wonton soup, and we were treated to a complimentary plate of pineapple or lychee fruit. It was all good. I won't go i to detail, but it was all good.

Yelp
We called and made a reservation for 12. We were seated promptly, our waitress was so sweet& on top of her game! The restaurant was dark and quiet. We liked the lazy bob on the table. The food was ok, we are used to northern Chinese. I enjoyed the lo mein. The beef and broccoli was super salty. Everything was salty. The portions are huge so you can definitely share / family style. The wontons were over crispy. I really liked the pickled cucumbers!

Yelp
The Veg Lo Mein was delicious. Very flavorful, great size meal. The staff is also super friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Very great place for dinner some stuff can be over priced but I can understand customers service is 1000% I never had a problem I been coming here for 3 years.

Yelp
We have been Hunan Springs customers for 20+ years, but after our last experience we will not be a returning customer. We ordered takeout and received the wrong order (for the 3rd time this year), but did not realize it until we got home. We were missing an order of cashew chicken and instead of regular beef and broccoli that we have ordered hundreds of times we got spicy beef and broccoli. When we called the restaurant to ask for the order to be corrected, the service was terrible! 1. We had to wait on hold for the employee on the phone to check with his manager if he could make our order right. 2. We were then told that the manager, Sheri, told him that they'll give us the missing order but she cannot replace the spicy beef and broccoli orders. 3. There was no apology, no empathy, nothing. We expressed our disappointment and asked for a refund of the missing item versus going back to the restaurant to pick up the missing order and be more frustrated. This place used to be a great restaurant with great service, but that time has passed. I see we're not the only ones experiencing this since there are recent reviews with the same complaints.

Yelp
We called yesterday for takeout of Peking duck. We were told by management to call back after 4 pm the next day no problem they have it especially because it was the weekend. The next day came...the man on the phone said "Peking Duck is hit or miss here." He recommend coming in. Oh they'll have it then, won't they? That's not what we were told. So forget that!!!! We were lied to. That's all there was to that. It went from Take Out or Forget about it!!! Another one bites the dust. Too bad Very very unhappy We recall in the past we've had that takeout and as a matter of fact we went in for a special occasion with friends. Got there, sat down , ordered Peking Duck and was "Shot-down" by hearing "no, I'm sorry you need to order that at least a week ahead of time!" So, what is the issue here? Oh and have you noticed that I said that they told us they have it but it's not on the menu? Have you ever heard of the saying "Bait and switch"? Yep they are guilty of this

Yelp
Outstanding service. Thank you, Des!! As always, our favorite!! The cilantro chicken is very good. Nice place for small or large gatherings. Cozy environment.

Yelp
I ordered several items for my 1st time eating here. The Fried Chicken Wings were not crunchy at all for fried, tasted okay, and were small/small amount for the price. The Hot & Sour Soup and noodles were good. My husband said the Shrimp Mei Fun was good. The Ribs were just okay, but not to my liking and I wouldn't order again. The Orange Beef had a really good taste, but the meat was chewy, not tender, and was very hard to chew without swallowing the remaining remnants after a lengthy chew and I wouldn't order gain. We only at half and it's doubtful we'll finish it. Both my husband and I thought the meal was pricy for the amount of food received. I guess we would have felt bette about the amount paid if the food were better tasting. The place we used to order from closed and I was really hoping we would like this place even though it is further than we would prefer to drive for takeout. Unfortunately, Hunan missed the mark for us.

Yelp
Willy is the absolute best waiter. He always remembers things we like and do not like when we place our order. He is attentive to our needs and we always request him to be our waiter. Today upon entering, the hostesses told us that Willy was too busy to give another table to. We told them we would wait. They said there was a wait but no guarantee we would get Willy. I understand how busy the restaurant was but they were actually pretty rude about the request. I told them again we were willing to wait and we would leave if we couldn't have Willy as our server. We waited and were seated five minutes later. Willy was his usual funny and wonderful bubbly personality and we enjoyed our meal. Upon leaving we had to wait again because the hostess disappeared from the station. Apparently appeasing repeat customers is not a priority.

Yelp
Very tasty! The food was fresh and good. I really enjoyed my chicken and vegetables. My husband was not as impressed with the sesame chicken.

Yelp
Another excellent night of service and good food, and unlike other local restaurants not that noisy

Yelp
Great food and service! Highly recommended! Portion sizes were huge. Be prepared to bring take home boxes!

Yelp
First time here and will go back. Took a star off as Hostess left us sitting in the very nice waiting area, while seating 3 parties that came in after us. When I spoke to the Hostess, he said he had called my name loudly three times and we didn't come up. We were sitting right by the entrance to the waiting area and this did not happen. Another guy hearing our conversation, piped up and confirmed that he did say my name loudly. Just admit you missed us and apologise because now I'm not happy and hoping the food will be good. It was. We had the shrimp roll and vegetable roll appetizers. Both were hot and served with a delicious lightly pickled little cucumber. We had the Basil Chicken and the Cilantro Chicken entrees. Both were served with white rice. Both were hot and very good. Our server was Alice L. She was pleasant and a hustler. She checked on us several times. This place has interesting decor and architecture.

Olivia R.

Yelp
Always delicious, whether it's take out or dining in. The cheese puffs are the best, house wonton soup is a must.

Yelp
More like 2.5 stars. We are long time customers, all the way back to the close of widow brown's. It was a 5 star, but last two times it has gone down hill. A bad trend. Previous visit, after instructions to make general Taos chicken mild, it arrived very spicy. They refunded, which was good. Next time, sweet and sour chicken was over cooked and my happy family meal had very tough beef. Two bad, perhaps a new cook who is missing it, or they are spending less on ingredients. Makes me want to try another Chinese restaurant, which is unfortunate after all these good years.

Yelp
Stop by no t knowing what to effect but pleasantly surprised. Good tasty food and great service. I would come again.

Yelp
had the noddles duck sauce and spicy mustard we were looking for. the food was great but service left a lot to be desired

Yelp
Didn't care for deep fried noodle chips with mustard and duck sauce they bring to table, although friend crushed some and added it to Bird's Nest for crunch. They use potato to make Bird's Nest. Potato used to make Bird's Nest was very stale. They put shrimp, steak, chicken and vegs into Bird's Nest, but there was very little. Friend asked for more so they brought more steak, chicken, shrimp. Thai Delight contains chicken, steak, shrimp and vegs. Steak was really tough, rest of meal was good. Steamed chicken dumplings and brown rice were good They brought pineapple chunks and chocolate fortune cookies to table, which were good. Couple years ago I got sick from eating Lamb dish. Probably doesn't get ordered much so it went bad, then they served it to me and other customers. On another occasion, not sure why waitress said "Careful it's hot!" as she served Wonton Soup. Soup was not hot enough. Contained two wontons in broth and was less than average. We complained shrimp egg rolls were cold. Waitress took them back to kitchen and brought out three new egg rolls. She said she personally saw them come out of fryer, to mean they were hot. They were barely warm AGAIN. Hot tea was not good either. Kung Pao Deluxe was good. One friend complained chicken in Chicken Kung Pao was cut too small, instead of larger as they usually do. Manager said they can make new one, but it would be prepared the same. So he returned it and left. He didn't order anything else. Other friend who ordered steak liked it.

Yelp
Ambiance was top notch, if you want a nice place to take customers or a special someone it is nice fast and good food

Yelp
I love hunan springs! Some of the best Chinese food in the Lehigh valley. Food is consistently good along with the service

Amy M.

Yelp
Have been a few times, things can be hit or miss. This last visit was a pretty good lunch experience. The pan fried pork dumplings were good. They seemed homemade with a thicker skin with lots of pork and not too much veg filler. We both went for the lunch express special with soup and fried rice. The hot and sour soup I got was lukewarm and slightly bland. The wonton soup was slightly warmer. Nothing too great but not bad. The thai chicken were cooked well with big chunks of pineapples and peppers. The green beans had a good flavor but I like it more browned and crispy. It just seemed lightly stir fried. Our meal ended with two chocolate fortune cookies. I would be interested in coming back to try some of their drinks.

Yelp
This place is right by where we live, I always want to try it. Last week my boyfriend took me here and we love it. First, I love restaurants that have fried wonton chips and duck sauce. YUM. Second, great atmosphere, clean, wonderful service. Third, the food was delicious. I got Peking duck and I haven't had it for so long, it definitely hit the spot. The customer service was wonderful, our server even packed our leftover for us. It's a pretty fancy place would definitely come back again. We love it.

Yelp
Placed delivery order, got confirmation email and delivery time (over 30 mins). Restaurant cancelled my order via text after 25 minutes of waiting. Would not pick up their phone to answer why order was cancelled. Will not ever order again from this place due to horrible customer service.

Yelp
Good food. Very fresh and tasty definitely not like your typical Chinese food restaurants.

Yelp
First and last time. Very disappointed with the food. Mei Fun noodles were over cooked and the Kung Pao Chicken was over cooked. The server was great. Wish the food would have been great also

Yelp
This place is a goldmine if you want good fresh Chinese food. I was blown away by how delicious the was. I personally recommend the spring rolls and the duck it was phenomenal will come back again.

Yelp
My first visit, I wasn't impressed, but my second time was very good. I have the vegetable fried rice and a side of bbq spare ribs. Service could have been better but not the worst I had.

Yelp
The food is great, service as well and the ambiance is better in the nighttime but overall it's great.

Yelp
Great serving size and nice atmosphere. Dinner comes with fried wonton crisps. They also have some cool cocktails as well. Very tasty duck special!

Yelp
I use to love the food and service. Unfortunately things have taken a turn for the worst. On Thursday I ordered salt n pepper shrimp, Roast pork lo mein, & chef speciality shrimp for take out. The meal was horrible!! The lo mein was over cooked ( hot bowl of mushy noddles), salt n pepper shrimp tasted tainted, and there was definitely Nothing Special about the specialty Shrimp ( not Spicy, but should have been). We left for vacation the following day, when I returned I called to make them aware. We got an apology, and A " I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do". At $58.00 for Chinese food, I'd think you could do something. Needless to say they lost a Good Customer, and I'll be sure to share my experience with all my surrounding neighbors.

Lorenzo M.

Yelp
I was disappointed here. Many people rave about this but I found it to be the same as the Chinese throughout the area: overcooked meat with the same sugar-laden Chile sauce. It would be great to find a Chinese place with "cleaner" offerings rather everything drenched in thick sauce with no taste other than hot or sweet. I'd say this place is a bit better than it's competition but that's a low bar so not necessarily a compliment.

Elaine M.

Yelp
Excellent each and every time we go there! The atmosphere is fantastic for a dinner with family or a romantic evening out.

Yelp
I've been a regular patron of Hunan Springs for at least a decade. In that time the quality of their fare has remained consistently high. We prefer even their standard "Chineese dishes for Americans" you find on almost every Asian restaurant menu to others in the region--and the quality eclipses that of the bargain-priced buffets that keep coming and going around town. Yes, they are slightly more expensive than other Chineese restaurants in the area; however, the quality has kept us coming back. Obviously, we think it's worth it. They have a fully-stocked bar on site which can also be a pleasant place to dine if you're so inclined. This is a great option on occasions when there is a wait for seating should you be dining alone or as a couple. We're particularly fond of their noodle dishes, spare ribs, pork-fried dumplings, teriyaki beef and especially their special "House Wanton Soup" which is served for two. That soup is a "souped up" version of a standard wanton soup. It's loaded with shrimp, pork and a variety of veggies. Their waiters are attentive and friendly. The place is family owned, and they take active roles in daily operations. ---- Regarding COVID-19 pandemic service:---- At this time (Aug 2020) they are operating only take-out services because of COVID-19 restrictions. It is ideal to call in your order. They will give you a good guess about when your order will be ready for pick-up; and they'll also take your cell phone number so they can text you when your order is ready. This way you need only enter when your order is up, minimizing contact with patrons and staff. Be sure to bring a mask when you pick up, as it's required for you to enter. The plus side is that if you wait in the parking lot until you get the text, your order will be straight-out-of-the-kitchen hot. Hunan Springs is as good as you will find for the money this side of the Hudson River.

Linda H.

Yelp
Our family has been going to Hunan since they opened and we always enjoy it. Dining in is lovely, especially since their remodel a while back. We recently had takeout for 10 and everything was was delicious. The shrimp in their dishes are big and tasty. We loved every dish we had including some wonderful vegetarian dishes. Wish they were still open for lunch.
google avatar

Yelp
3.5 stars. Went here for takeout passing through the area a while back. Gorgeous restored house turned restaurant. Had ma yee song soo, cellophane noodles with minced pork. Lots and lots of green onions. After a while, all I could taste was green onions. Aside from that, a very light dish, full of flavor. I just wanted it to have a less oniony flavor, and those were not listed as a main component of the dish on the menu. We also got pork with dried bean curd. Similar to most places in Philly Chinatown, but with a huge amount of garlic. Very tasty and as advertised. I'm torn with this review, because I liked the concept of the dishes I tried. They were not doused in overly sweet or salty/oily sauces. I'm in favor of using dry spices or vegetables where possible to give an oomph. But these would probably not be recommended for a date night if you want a second one. Return: Sure. Would try more of the menu if back in the area. Service: Friendly. Seemed surprised I ordered off the Traditional menu, not in a bad way. I see based on other reviews that's not an unusual experience.

Yelp
This place has become part of our family's Christmas tradition. Before everyone gets back on planes, trains and in cars, we gather here for just about the best Chinese food in the Lehigh Valley. Are there better places? Perhaps. We just haven't found them and in the meantime, we like the food, the flexibility of the chefs (we have some finicky eaters in our family) and the wait staff, which is second-to-none.
google avatar

Guechlang S.

Yelp
Food is okay. I've had better Chinese food. They didn't exceed my expectation. Some of their silverwares were not properly washed. Their spoons still got stuff stuck to them. We received good service tho. Our server was very attentive to our table. Two stars for good service.

Yelp
My wife and I went back to Hunan Springs on a blustery 20° F Thursday in February, for lunch this time around. It was another good experience though the dining room & the food could have been a bit warmer. Perhaps their heating system couldn't keep up with the cold. The Express Lunch menu isn't a joke -- the food was served promptly. It started with the free crispy noodles with duck sauce & spicy mustard. I'm still thinking that they make the noodles in-house - they are really enjoyable. Lunches are served with choice of rice and soup, with the option of upgrading to add an egg roll or vegetable roll for $1 more. My wife had Wonton soup while I had the the Hot & Sour. My soup was enjoyable, not as spicy as some places, for better or worse. I had the Thai Chicken, a sweet, slightly spicy dish with crispy green peppers, onions, mushrooms and pineapple. It was served with pork fried rice. My wife had the Curry Chicken which was chicken sauteed with peas, carrots, onions and thinly-sliced potatoes in a curry sauce, it was served with Jasmine rice. Her entree was good, but we both preferred mine. We both opted for the egg rolls, which we both thoroughly enjoyed -- the shell was chewy and flavorful vs. the typical overly-crispy/crumbly shell that most places have. The filling was also an appropriate ratio of pork vs. cabbage and other fillers. Most places are unfortunately 90% cabbage. They still bring the check with a cocoa-flavored fortune cookie for each person and a small dish of pineapple chunks with toothpicks. Lunch was $20.04 w/tax (plus tip). Hot tea is (still) free -- some of the other Asian restaurants we've visited have started charging up to $2.50 per person for hot tea. Looking forward to next time.

Yelp
Hands down best Chinese food in Lehigh Valley. Everything is always fresh. Best egg rolls I've had too.

Yelp
This place used to be pretty good.. Ownership changed and now it's just ehh for a higher dollar sign.

Yelp
Best in the Valley in my opinion! We love the food here. Fast, friendly, great portions and price!
google avatar

Johnna K.

Yelp
This is my FAVORITE Chinese restaurant. The atmosphere, the staff, the food, and the choices are all outstanding. The portions are ample. It's a place where I can bring my children or get dressed up for a date. I think I'm craving their crispy noodles right now!
google avatar

Ed S.

Yelp
Unfortunately, just another poor Chinese restaurant in an area with many of the same. The unappealing look of the outside of the building suggests the quality of food produced by the kitchen inside. The moo shu chicken is moo shu mush with a paltry amount of chicken in overcooked vegetables. Consistently poor because I've tried it many times. Take a look and you'll see that most of the good reviews are many years old. What happened, who knows? If one good Chinese restaurant came into the area it would put the rest of these places out of business. I wish the owners well, however I won't be giving them any more of my money until they up their quality standards.

Yelp
Visited before a Costco trip on a Sunday. Just after peak lunch, no problem being seated. Ordered the special wonton soup for 2. Wasnt sure what would make it special - no description but for about a dollar more each at most, it included pork, shrimp, possibly duck. We considered it a fully loaded soup. Fried wontons you get at the table were great. We were first timers so we order a bunch to taste/try. Veggie spring rolls, price is per each, fried chicken dumplings, pork buns. Followed by Sesame beef - not on the menu but craving and immediately accommodated, cilantro chicken - he loved it, and Thai Delight - I like heat and description said spicy, but we didnt feel any spice heat. May just be our acclimation to heat. Plenty of people in the world that might say black pepper is spicy and find this dish having heat.
