Today, I savored their sliced fish paired with white rice and sweet and sour soup from the lunch menu—a delightful combination of flavors. On occasion, I indulge in combining two lunch specials, finding the ox tongue particularly delicious and refreshing when served cold. Overall, Hunan Kitchen is truly amazing, delivering outstanding cuisine alongside top-notch service, making it a must-visit destination for any food enthusiast.

很好吃！So delicious! Was in NYC for one night, and I stumbled across this place nearby. Super friendly staff and calm atmosphere. I got to practice my Chinese, and the staff was very kind to teach me some new words. As for the meal, I got the Xiao Long Bao and Cucumber Salad, plus rice and a drink. Adding the rice to the leftover oil from the salad was *chef’s kiss*. The xiao long bao was super fresh and delicate. All of this plus a drink was $21. Great value!

Every dish we ordered tasted authentic and savory! Rocket speed to bring dishes on the table with minimal waiting time. Not a place for group dinning more than 5-6. I would like to go back when visiting New York next time.

Best place for both Authentic Hunan and also American Chinese food in maybe the whole of Manhattan. It’s rare to get a restaurant that can do a superb job at both. Recommend the Duck egg yolk steamed Eggplant, and they have the best General Tso’s chicken hands down.

I ordered a little spicy dry hot pot but got an extremely spicy one with that many spicy pepper and oil on it, It’s I don’t even think they custom it at all. They put very heavy seasoning and insane amount of oil, making it very unhealthy. Don’t recommend it

I went to this place yesterday to grab some lunch during my break from work. I absolutely love their food and prices!!! I tried the Beef With Onion Lunch Special for the first time and it tasted so good. Definitely coming back again! Also, the employees in the restaurant are very nice and helpful. 😄👍

Picked up a weekday lunch from here. Ordered ahead so it was straight forward in and out. Food was already resdy when I got there. First time here and ordered the sesame chicken. It came with rice and a little bit of brocolli. Can't complain as pricing was decent for the city. Room for improvement would be smaller chunks of chicken and a tad more brocolli.

It was cold and I wanted sometjing spicy to warm me up and Hunan Village delivered. I got the spicy dry pot with the pork, lamb, tofu skin, wood ear mushrooms, and cabbage. The meat was delicious, tender and absorbed a lot of the flavor. Same with the tofu skin which is a nice meat substitute for vegetarians. The cabbage added a nice textural contrast which was great. The flavors were robust, and the medium heat packed a punch. I might go one level lower as in my older age too spicy doesn't agree with me as much. The portion size was generous, making it perfect for sharing or enjoying leftovers. One downside was they forgot my rice and with that level heat, I wanted something to help tame it. Overall, Hunan Village is a great spot for those who love authentic, spicy Chinese food. Highly recommend this dish if you're a fan of bold, comforting flavors!

I just passed by and wanted to have quick lunch here. Found and choose this place by yelp's high rate. I was so happy that I choose this by great food and quick service. After all lunch prices were great. I really need to comeback here for dinner with more members to enjoy their food!!!

I used to order from here almost every week when I lived in the area. They specialize in Hunan & Sichuan regional dishes - cuisines known for their spice profiles and heavy flavor - in addition to standard Chinese/Cantonese fare. The spicy dry pot is something I order frequently as it's quite good here and you get to pick your own ingredients from a varied selection of meats & veggies. The fatty beef is great, and they even have exotic duck blood. I recommend ordering from the house specials section for authentic Chinese selections. Some standout dishes are: - Ox tongue & tripe w. spicy peppery sauce appetizer - Smoked tea duck - Mao's red braised pork belly - Green pepper with preserved egg (this is actually a dish with eggplant - spicy, special, and one of my favorites) - Sautéed sour string bean w/ minced pork - Sautéed preserved pork w/ dried string beans (the preserved pork is made in-house) - Jumbo shrimp Hunan style Prices are very reasonable and the lunch specials are a great deal (available 7 days but Sat & Sun are takeout only). The quality has been more inconsistent lately but we still like to eat here when we are in midtown east.

I really love the spicy dry pot here. I've only ordered for delivery - it comes in a large rectangular container. You get to choose your ingredients! And the mild spicy level is perfect for me. Thinking I can handle the next level up too. Recently I got squid, enoki mushrooms, lotus root, wood ear, and mung bean noodles. It's minimum 5 items per order but you can go crazy and do as many items as you want from the list. It comes with a small side of rice. I also tried the hot and sour soup and it was very tasty! I was curious about the chicken ginseng soup too, maybe next time. The delivery is via Doordash. I'd def order from here again!

Must try: Double Cooked Pork w/ Smoked Bean Curd, Mao's Red Braised Pork Belly, Tripe w/ Spicy Peppery Sauce! Why: We had a large group of 9 people for dinner so did family style so we can try various appetizers and entrees. We tried Soup Dumplings, Tripe, Crab Rangoon, and Pork Belly for appetizers. We also each ordered an entree and I really liked the Double Cooled Pork and Braised Pork Belly. We also wanted some veggies so paired the food with Stir Fried String Beans. Overall, each dish was delicious. Notes: With our large group we made reservations ahead of time and they were able to accommodate us upstairs, which felt private since we had an early dinner at 6pm. Service was good and the food came out fairly quickly. We were happy with our selections and enjoyed a fun conversational meal together.

There are a lot of Chinese people eating here. I take that as a good sign. No free hot tea though. Found my fav chicken and hot peppers dish. It was great. I'd go here again. A lot of folks are getting delivery orders from here. Very walkable from Grand Central.

We come here regularly and seem to get the same things because they are so perfect every time: scallion pancakes, wonton soup, house special fried rice and Singapore rice noodles. They have the best fried rice!! It's not heavy and has delicious Chinese string beans in it. Can't recommend it enough!!

I was a little underwhelmed by their lunch specials. I ordered egg plant lunch and it was a little too sweet to my taste and it is not common for Hunan foods to be this sweet. The price is reasonable for a lunch special but I wish the flavor were better

We dropped in for some authentic Chinese food and wasn't disappointed. Very generous servings and the quiet chill atmosphere were highlights. Service was prompt and helpful.

Only had a delivery, but food was some of best reasonably-priced Chinese food we've had in Midtown. Will do it again. Phone ordering pleasant (so often elsewhere it's not, and let's not get started on issues/costs with Uber, Grubhub, etc.) Variety of traditional Hunan, Cantonese, Szechuan. Good simile portions. NOT with giant pieces of green pepper and soggy brocoli, like so many inferior spots.

Ordered this place via Uber Eats and was surprised by how good the spicy dry pot was! Had the dry pot with two portions of fish, beef, Chinese cabbage, wooden ear mushrooms, and the tofu skin. Had it at median spicy and it was so good! Full of flavor, spice, grease and that numbness mala dry pot should have. Yum! The portion was also generous. And lasted us for a while! Also ordered the spicy fish fillet from their lunch special however that was your Americanized overly sweet dish that I typically don't enjoy. The order came super quick, fresh and well packaged. Overall I was very satisfied with their dry pot and can definitely see myself ordering more items from here!

Ordered the lunch special at the restaurant takeout which was exactly $13 all together. Got the Kung pao chicken, fried rice, and hot and sour soup. Service was very fast and the food came in a strong paper bag. The restaurant itself is pretty small like almost every place in midtown, but had nice decor. The chicken was very good, flavorful and a good level of spicy. The fried rice and hot and sour soup were average takeout level, nothing spectacular but also nothing wrong with either. The portions were a little small but all together it was still filling. I like to compare takeout lunch places to chipotle, and for $1 more than a chipotle chicken bowl I'd choose Hunan Village unless I was really craving chipotle.

It's pretty hard to screw up Chicken and Broccoli and General Tso's Chicken, but Hunan Village manages to do so. Disgusting chicken and broccoli with carrots and garlic. Who puts garlic and carrots in chicken and broccoli?? And this is not fresh garlic, but crap from a jar. Awful. General Tso's with 80% batter and what chicken is buried deep inside is stringy and nearly unchewable. $40 in the trash.

Not worth the price at all. I ordered sesame chicken yesterday and the chicken came in enormous pieces that weren't even cooked properly. I had to get a knife and cut them into smaller pieces myself. It was also drenched in oil and sauce- far more than it normally should be.

10/10!!!!!!!! I ordered out because I'm feeling under the weather. But upon entrance they greeted me with smiles and kindness and were super understanding when realizing that I had no voice lol. (I'm sick as hell ya'll) So I showed them my order number and name and they said no problem, feel better and handed me THEEEE most delicious food EVER. Let's start off with the steamed pork dumplings. Dumplings pon dumplings, dumplings galore. My god the portion was perfect for my sick hungry self. They were delicious. Then the shrimp Lo Mein?!!! Usually when you go places they give you like 4 damn shrimp. THEY HAD ENDLESS SHRIMP!!!!!! The noodles weren't dry, the seasoning was on point. The portion was also perfect. I literally cannot wait to go back to try more things on the menu!!! Thank you so much for an unforgettable experience. Next time, when I'm feeling well, I look forward to dining in because the ambiance was quiet, clean, and relaxing. I'll be back after these antibiotics kick in ya'll!

Great, tasty food. Ordered takeout and the delivery was super quick...I received the food within 20 mins of placing the order!! The Kung pao chicken was delicious - it was saucy, spicy, the chicken was tender and had lots of vegetables. The sesame chicken was great too- the chicken was juicy on the inside and fried perfectly, the sauce was tasty and had a little kick to it. The portion sizes were plentiful and the food was tasty. I got the lunch special and each entree came with fried rice (also tasty) and a spring roll. Great neighborhood spot for when you get a hankering for some Chinese food!

Great food, excellent quality and service. The moo shu chicken might be my favorite- but everything I've ever ordered has been great - and most importantly, not greasy.

This place has great reviews and is a little over a block from work so I decided to check it out for lunch. They have an enormous menu with several lunch specials. The food was very tasty although the service was a little slow. They are very busy during lunch and the place is small, so it was no big deal. I will come back again to try more of the menu.

Fan-freaking-tastic Chinese food! I ordered delivery and it was perfect and hot and not like soupy and gross if you know what I mean? Delicious noodles, perfect crab Rangoons and the chicken was soo good. Think I finally found my go to chinese place for when I'm bed rotting on Sundays. 64028/10 recommend.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of food. Been craving spicy lamb and tripe and beef, so I took another shot at delivery. The lunch special beef came as a good sized entree plus soup. Good flavors, not overwhelming spicy or salty. The tripe and tongue dish was absolutely fantastic, with flavorful but not overpowering spice. The only flaw is that the supposed tongue was sliced beef shank instead. Still delicious but a bit of false advertising. The cumin lamb was comparatively mild in terms gameyness, spice and flavor, and still very good, though it came with a comical amount of onion. Highly recommended if you can handle spice. Lunch specials are good value, and the tripe and beef appetizer was a standout dish. Excellent portion and flavor, so much so that I'd be happy with it as an entree in the future.

I got the spicy dry pot with mung bean noodles, lotus root, enoki, bok choy, and bean curd sheets. The portion was hugeee and the dish was flavorful and delicious. It has just the right amount of heat and it wasn't too salty. I called in to ask if the sauce had any meat derived flavors, and the person who answered was very kind and let me know that if I ordered just veggie items the dish is pretty much vegan. So I loved that. The dish came out to about $21 with tax. I would've loved to give this place a 5 star review, but the only reason I docked a star was because half my lotus root portion seemed spoiled with black dots, I just threw that part out and carried on eating, but wish they noticed on their own and didn't put it in my dish. I still enjoyed it enough to give it 4 stars, and will definitely be back to give it another shot :)

Always passed by this place and never gave it a thought until my coworker mentioned how good their food was. The inside is pretty fair sized and they have a decent lunch special for under $15 if you're coming around that time. I came here during my lunch break and was happy that they were serving the lunch special even for dining in. I got the shrimp with sautéed string beans and the egg drop soup. The portion size was huge, you'd def have enough for leftovers. The shrimp was fresh and didn't have that soggy taste like other chinese restaurants have. I'll def be returning again to try other menu items.

Great service, food was fine but not amazing. For quick standard Hunan Chinese food, it's good.

Ordered on DoorDash and had a great meal. For the spicy dry pot, we got beef, fish filet, potato, cauliflower, and bok choy. It tasted great but it gets very expensive as you try to add more ingredients. The jellyfish was great - the chili oil added a ton of flavor and the texture of the jellyfish was good. Dan Dan noodles: pretty standard. Usually a reliable dish and it delivered at this restaurant. Wonton soup: very cheap, and the wontons were big and tasty!

This is our number one go-to to-go restaurant. We have been picking up here 2-3 times a week on average since it was Hunan Manor. Surprisingly when the owner changed during COVID, they still keep up the same standard. Some dishes are actually better and service at the counter are much friendlier than before. We're so happy this is just a few blocks from the house, no need for us to travel far to Flushing when the authentic Hunan food is just right here. I absolutely love mapo tofu and the new item added that I became addicted is mashed green peppers with thousand year eggs, just so creamy and perfect. We also order a lot of bamboo shoot with pork, sour string beans, shrimp in chili oil and country styled tofu. Another thing that I love is that they have duck blood as one of the items in the dry pot. But the call out I want to make is they took out smoked beef with white peppers which is a rare dish to find in America.

Guess I wasn't as clear as I thought I was-- do not put onions or scallions in my food. Everything had them! Food went into the trash-- thank goodness for grubhub!

Real good food local in NY. I didn't find it Amerianized and had Chinese customers, good sign. Had mapo tofu and beef with vegetables. Very good, will gladly go back again on my next work trip. I am not a fan of restaurants that are restaurants but closed up the dining room which this place did but might be because of shortage of labor?? For takeout.. its good.

This place is an excellent no frills Chinese restaurant that has excellent food, great service, fair price points, and is just awesome overall. Food had a lot of flavor and was awesome. High recommend.

Fast and filling lunch specials $10.95 for choice of entree, white/brown/veggie fried rice, and hot and sour/wonton soup or spring rolls..... yes please!! Hot and sour soup 4/10 -this was my first hot and sour soup and maybe its just not my cup of soup General Tso's chicken 8/10 -sweet, sticky battered and fried chicken -broccoli was just plain and steamed Fried Rice 7/10 -perfect buddy for the saucy chicken Vibes 7/10 -they're speeeedy service It's average chinese food, but a way above average price for lunch special so I recc 100%

Really good! Help up super well for delivery. Not bad pricing given the portions. Would definitely order again. Also had the Dan Dan noodles which were very flavorful. My favorite dry pot items were the potato, the mung bean noodles, and the enoki mushrooms.

Almost 5 star, just one small issue. Really good, and I love this kind of Chinese food. There aren't a lot of places to get it, and of those that exist, they aren't all this good. I used to go to the previous incarnation of this place at least once a week when I worked close by, for takeout and dine in, lunch and dinner. Just had two lunch specials and it was as good as I remember. Had the pork with dried turnips, which used to be one of my favorites. Requested it medium spicy, and they did a good job with it. It was very tasty, but barely any of the turnips, especially relative to what I remember here and at other Hunan places...so while great, it almost didn't seem like the dish I ordered. Otherwise all good. The shredded pork with smoked tofu, another old favorite, was very nice also. Great hot and sour soup. And I enjoy that you can get brown rice. Our takeout order was ready super fast, and the staff was nice. The lunches with soup and rice were each $10.95 pre tax. So not cheap, but worth it.

They stole my debit card information. I landed in NYC, took a taxi to my hotel, and then went to eat at Hunan Village. That was the only time my card was out of my sight. At 2 AM I woke up and saw notifications about nearly $1,000 charged to my card from the New York Raiders merchandise site. I don't know if it was just the individual server or if the whole restaurant is crooked, but eat somewhere else. If it happened to me, it's probably happening to other people.

Ordered delivery via DoorDash and felt these are fair prices for decent food in large portions. Solid flavors too, especially if you're into spicy food. Meat dishes came with minimal vegetables despite advertising veggies. Loved that they included rice with each entree. 5/5 General Tso's chicken 3/5 red braised pork belly 5/5 shredded beef Szechuan style Successfully split this with 4 adults and had just a bit left over for the next day.

My husband and I are living in NYC the next couple of months while he goes through radiation so I've been on the look out for conveniently located cheap foods that aren't $99 pizza. We've realized in the small time we've been here that the little hole in the wall cheap places are where we want to be and often end up being cheaper than a home cooked meal. After doing some looking around online I found this place. We got ours delivered to us so I can't really comment on the service or ambiance but everything we got was so good. I got a cup of hot and sour soup that was the best I've ever had, and I love hot and sour soup. I also had the pork soup dumplings and they were delicious. My husband had the tangerine chicken and also stole some of my soup dumplings. I don't usually like orange chicken so I didn't think I would but he made me try it and it changed my mind! We both commented on how fresh and "clean"everything tasted. Also, the prices are great, especially for the location, and for the amount of food you get, we had leftovers that were enough for lunch the next day.

They will not give complete orders. They will block calls if you try to complain. Food is burnt and some of food is ok but they do not want to bother with complaints. Lots of money for mediocre nasty Chinese.

If you're looking for a great Chinese food spot in Murray Hill, this is a great option. They have good food, large portions and fast delivery. The only disappointment was their wonton soup has seaweed in it, which most restaurants don't do, and it was not great. Paying $3 for a small soup, it was definitely not worth it.

Hunan Village is a great place for reasonably priced, authentic, and high quality Chinese food. I highly recommend this place. I have visited this restaurant, having my takeout since Covid started, on monthly basis. I loved this place. Their lunch special menu is phenomenal, for $10, you can get this generous portion of freshly cooked food, with my favorite delicious fried rice, and a wonton soup. I also bought my dear American friend to try this place. I have to say, Chinese food really tasted better when you eat those dishes freshly cooked from their wok, in their kitchen, a few steps away. We also ordered their lunch specials: the Sliced Fish with Ginger and Scallion, Jumbo Shrimp Human Style, and Celery with Smoked Bean Curd. Those dishes all tasted fantastic, with a final bill under $50. Their lunch menu portion was so generous that we couldn't finish, and left more than half to takeout. My friend was so impressed that she wanted to come more often. I am a China-born Chinese, I have tried many Chinese restaurants in NYC, and if I say this is a good Chinese restaurant, please trust me, this IS a good Chinese restaurant.

I ordered take out from here, which showed up at my door within about 40 min of ordering. The General Tso's chicken is pretty good, but not the best I've had.

Favorite chinese food delivery. Favorite wonton soup in the city as well - and only 2.95!!! Dish serving size is great all around and not over priced. Just good classic chinese food. Ate there once and was the only non-chinese person there as well, which i took as a good sign that the food was quality.

Super tasty food! I was staying around the corner and it was handy and affordable. The soup dumplings (aka xiao long bao) were a standout, as was the hot & sour soup.

Ordered Hunan chicken lunch special yesterday. It was very decent portion with lots of chicken in it. The flavor was a little too bland, it was not spicy at all as "Hunan" chicken. Overall, it was a good deal for lunch. I will order again.

Portion serving was enormous and the flavor-easily one of my favorites in Manhattan! Will return for sure!
