Worst fish n chips I’ve ever had. Portions were good. Dry, stale and bland like fish, shrimp and fries had been frozen for a long time or got freeze burned. Coleslaw was runny almost like a sauce. Zucchini and broccoli were ok.

Had lunch here while waiting for my cat at the vets. I had the cod, chips, and mushrooms. Items are made to order and are very fresh. I haven’t had fish this good and crispy in ages. This was my first time visiting, but will not be my last.

Nice BIG MEATY fish fillet. During the lenten season, I've been eating nothing but fish. And this place gets an A+ good seasoning, not over cooked,, nice mild crunch but very meaty inside. They ran out of COD but the pollack was just as good. I'll most definitely come back. Their price is high BUT you get what you paid for. FRESH FISH done to perfection 😎😎😎😎😎

my cousin told me about this place and she was absolutely correct in saying I won't be disappointed. First the place looked and smelled clean. The lady that took my order was very pleasant. I ordered a 1 catch that had 1 piece of catfish, 3 prawns, fries and zucchini with a dr. pepper to wash it down. The food was fried to perfection and plentiful. I went for lunch but will definitely be returning again with my wife.

I went there today and I got what I normally get. However, I have not been there probably all year and I don’t know if the ownership has changed or not but my food was horrible. It had no taste. The fries were oily soggy and I paid like 40 something close to $50 for my order and they barely even came with fries and the fries they did I get were soggy from the oil from everything being on top of it. I also got the mushrooms which I normally get but for some reason these mushrooms were cut up instead of it being a whole mushroom, it was horrible. They were cooked too hard and my fish had no flavor to it. It was not worth my money at all. The only good thing was the customer service. There was good but everything that the food was horrible don’t do it. I’m really mad because I spent $14 on a quart of ice cream and when I opened it, it looks like someone already ate out of it. I will be bringing this back.

I wasn't even sure they were open when i pulled up it was so dark inside. Overpriced and Overcooked. Cod was overcooked withe the batter tough and chewy. Onion rings wafer thin and chewy as well, Fries were soggy. I can't imagine going back.

Wow so good! The "One Catch" order was more than enough for my daughter and I. She also got to watch "Up" on their Tv which was a nice touch. Back to the food, the cod and the shrimp were better than the last few places I tried Fish&Chips. The fries taste home made and are delicious, oh but the hush puppies are the star. We will definitely be back.

Really enjoyed eating here! One of the best fish and chips I've had for awhile! Very happy I decided to stop here. I had the tilapia and it was bomb. So worth passing by! You get alot for your money too!

Probably the best fish and chips I've had ever. In a long time, at least in the Bay area. It's a small little quaint place with interesting decor. Seems to be family owned because there were people there that look like they were related to the person who was cooking. He did a good job. They have a nice selection of fish cod Pollock catfish and a couple other selections. If I would have noticed I would have got the combo with this prawns. Very good portions of large piece of fish one piece is enough. Basic selection you get at most places with a fries and a side. Everything seems to be made fresh. They have interesting disclaimers at the front and reading that made me feel good. Overall I would highly recommend this place. The fish was delicious the fries were good and the hush puppies were flavorful.

Looks the same from the outside. Inside could use some updating, but I always take it home. da Grub: went with the tried an true Double Catch; Cod & Prawns w/ mushrooms & fries. At 1st glance it looks pretty much the same... munch, and yep, very familiar Cod, very crispy outside, soft, white, tender inside. Prawns were nice size, about 2 bites per; mushrooms also crisp/tender. All atop some fries... and these were the only discernable difference, these were fries, not traditional pub style english "chips" as before - ok, but not as sturdy as chips which are typically stubby and thicker, and somehow stay crispy. Not a deal breaker though... the quality of the Cod & Prawns is most important and still shines through. da Service: Greeted warmly, nice lady, 15 min wait, packed in open cardboard tray so things stay crispy, you get a container each of malt, tartar & the cocktail/horseradish sauce (yummy, I use all 3 in every bite!). 5 Stars for quality; it's a bit pricey, but when it comes to seafood, don't skimp. Old school hole inda wall feel, with friendly service. You can't eat this too often, it's a cheat meal... but when you get the craving, this hits the spot, so come get it.

I was working in the area and decided to swing by Hundal Sahib to pick up lunch on the way home. After a 45 minute drive home, the fish was still crunchy and fresh. It's impressive that the texture held after a long wait between when I got it and when I ate. Your best bet is the Single Catch plate. It comes with your choice of fish along with 3 pc. Prawns for about $20. A lot of food comes with this so it is enough to share with others. My favorite item was the prawn. They were huge and delicious. The cod was great as well. I would want to try the catfish next time since based on other reviews it may have a bit more flavor. The sides were decent. If they just seasoned it a bit after frying, I think it would've made it better. Overall, I enjoyed Hundal. I would come back if I was in the area again.

3/29/24 Good Friday and we are having fish To Go from H.S. Fish. Cod (add $6 extra over Sole) in my opinion is the best deal. Seems like you get more fish and it is much more moist. I haven't tried their Tilapia. This Double Catch Cod option ($38 not cheap but worth it) comes with enough to satisfy three people in our home. Very tasty Deep fried Cod, Prawns, Mushrooms, French Fries, Tarter sauce, Malt vinegar and Cocktail sauce. Pretty good eating. Good Friday Dad joke alert! We ate the Cod. Good for the Sole .

New owners appx 3yrs ago. I used to frequent this place prior to the new ownership. The new owners are friendly however the food is NOT the same. And the prices are higher for the amount of food. I will NOT come here ever again. Sorry new owners but you guys should do better!!!!

Been eyeing this restaurant for a while since I grew up enjoying quite a few Friday Fish Fry's. Service is friendly and the portion sizes are big. Decor is mainly framed pictures of celebrities. We ordered: Double Catch - Cod + Shrimp with a side of Mushrooms and Fries Seafood Plate - Calamari with a side of Broccoli and Fries We liked the fried vegetables, shrimp and calamari. Well battered and fried. The items we thought could use some changes - Fries could have used some more time in the fryer. Cod was a bit dry, didn't have any seasoning, and batter was really thin. Coleslaw didn't taste like much and was heavy on the Mayo. If you're hankering for some fried foods, I'd recommend the ones I listed above. It would be nice to see more non-fried food items on the menu to balance it out a bit.

I've really enjoyed this place in the past. It has changed ownership. Fish does not seem as fresh. Included Friedman's mushrooms, they were slices. This place went from WOW!! To hohum! I won't make the drive from Vallejo for great Fish N Chips for this mediocre food.

Friendly service, decent, but not excellent fish and chips. A bit expensive. I also don't like how they put the vinegar in a plastic spray bottle as the vinegar can corrode the plastic and then you get microplastic in your vinegar.

Excellent service, food is outstanding and customer service is to die for. I used to eat there at least 3 times a week, then the pandemic and I recently learned that they are open again.

Since the closing of the nearby H. Salt, this place has been my go to for pub-style fish & chips. I enjoy their fried cod & vegetables, and icecream selections. There were a few times I visited and they weren't open during operating hours. I wish they sprayed the fish with malt while it was fresh out of the fire. Other than these two things, they are great. A must try.

I can no longer recommend this fish and chips spot. The fish used to be cooked perfectly. Now it's always either overcooked or undercooked and inedible. My husband used to love this place because the quality of the fish and the cooking was 5 star. He used to be a cook at a seafood restaurant and he said they aren't keeping their oil at the proper temperature anymore which is causing the problems with overcooked fish and undercooked breading. We won't be back until they fix their quality issues. The ice cream is still good, which is why it's a 2 star instead of a 1 star rating.

The people are nice, service was cool and the dining area is a small space. The fish was very bland no seasoning, hella greasy and overpriced. $50 for two fish plates.

Wow- what a great mom and pop find for some freshly fried seafood, veggies and fries! I had fish and chips on my mind the whole day so I took the short drive to San Pablo to see what this place had to offer. Indoor dining wasn't open at the time and you just order at the counter or call in for takeout. Inside was a cozy space with a bunch of framed photos on the dining area walls. The lady working there was super sweet and patient as I inquired about the different options. The Libra in me couldn't decide which fish and sides to get - smh. I finally decided on catfish and fries with fried mushrooms. She advised getting 1 piece of fish with my combo because portions were large. I had wanted to try the cod too but I'll have to come back. They also sell Loard's ice cream by the pint so of course I had to get a mint chip one for dessert! Everything was made fresh to order and so tasty when I dug into it at home. She wasn't kidding about the amount of food - there was a ton- and am so glad I ordered just one fish. Catfish was crispy and flavorful, the mushrooms were so fresh and tender, and the fries were a nice finish, though a bit soggy from the ride home. Mint chip ice cream was the perfect dessert to cleanse my palette! I definitely have to return for the cod and of course another pint of ice cream!

The menu is a bit confusing. I wound up ordering way too much. Ordered the oysters po-boy only one but two sandwiches were in the box! Is that normal? I also ordered 2-3 piece cod the side was fried zucchini AND it came with fries! That a lotta fried stuff! The fish was delicious; corn bread batter along with great tarter sauce. Fries were over cooked and not edible which was fine as I had plenty of fresh fried zucchini to substitute. While abundant the oysters po-boy was way too much. Literally two 6-8 inch rolls chocked full of little fried oysters, (slightly smaller than golf balls) over coleslaw, I wound up eating the oysters by themselves. A little rubbery not the freshest. Won't get that again. But the fish was so good it warrants a return visit.

The last 2 pictures shows hair in our food. Instead of refunding our money all we got was an apology. None of the workers wore hair nets :(. I was disgusted after that. To top it off I had was sick the rest of the night and the next day. 2 (2 pc Cod 2 Piece Catfish Combo) fried broccoli fried Zucchini Strips Fried Mushrooms and French fries with 6 jumbo prawns Tried to order just the prawns but that wasn't an option so instead of the sides she said she would give us an extra piece of fish but it did not make it in our order. The overall place was cool just not the poor quality of food.

One piece cod combo is $17. Which is a horrible price for only half a fillet. The prices went up from there. I won't go here again. I'll fry My own fish and chips at home

This local restaurant is one I've been itching to try ever since I moved to the area. It's right next to some lovely shops, tons of parking, and you can stop next door for some sweet treats from the panaderia. I am sad that I didn't get to try this fish and chip spot before Covid-19 times. Some food just tastes best when it's super hot and eaten like five minutes after it's served. Now don't get me wrong, this place is absolutely worth ordering from. It's tasty food, but I'd suggest ordering and picking up vs. having it delivered. I love that they have a large variety of fish and seafood along with vegetables as well! This place is halal and it's nice to see! Next time I'm going to place my order and pick it up and see the difference. We ordered a two piece cod that comes with hush puppies and chips and then we added an order of fried mushrooms. The cod tasted great, really fresh fish, but the breading was unfortunately soggy from the delivery trip in its steaming packaging. The mushrooms were tasty and definitely a shareable item. I've got to say that those hush puppies were the star for me personally! Super tasty and lots of them to go around. My partner and I shared the two piece meal and it was just right with all of the sides. They really have fresh fish and veggies which was something I valued at this spot. I'm hoping for another opportunity to try this spot.

There are days that I crave for fish & chips. I always go to Powder Keg. 2 weeks ago, I googled where else to get fish & chips and this store was suggested as the closest where I live. The reviews were mostly great so I went. I was disappointed. The fries were too soft and like leftover. The fish is bland, like no salt at all. It's expensive though. I'll rather go back to Powder Keg.

Update! No surprise that all our selections were prepared to perfection! Fried yes...greasy...absolutely not. Can't express enough how extra kind the Mr. & Mrs. owners are. All the patrons whom visit are also extra friendly and warm. Makes your meal extra, extra enjoyable. Many visit frequently throughout within a week. That's got to say something. Today, Wild caught sole, clam strips, hush puppies, mushrooms and broccoli. All so yummmmmmmmy.

One of my favorite places to eat in the whole east bay. All of the food is so flavorful and cooked fresh to order. We feel welcome and well taken care of by everyone who works here. Every fish I have tried is outstanding! Try the zucchini! The fries could use more salt, but we usually take them home and cook them again or make something for breakfast with them and it's perfect.

We used to frequent this place quite a bit under it's old management, this was our first time with the new owners. We placed an order for two jumbo tiger prawn dinners through Door dash, and this being fired food paid the additional $2.99 for express delivery. Food got here pretty darn fast, but there were issues. While their fries appear and taste freshly cut, they were warm, not hot, and they were oily and limp. The hush puppies were small, dark and dense without good corn flavor. The Prawns....sigh.... What's worse than overcooked seafood? They were the warmest item in the order, and the batter had stayed pretty crisp, but the shrimp themselves had been overcooked and were not just rubbery - a couple were out-right stringy! Not at all pleasant. I'm giving three stars because I believe they're really trying to do a good job, and certainly their portions are generous, but when you're in the fish & chips business limp fries and overcooked seafood is a cardinal sin. They're doing this number where they split the prawns along the end, so they curl up during the frying process - I believe this has to do with shortening the cooking time, but it makes that portion of the shrimp a lot thinner than if they simply left them whole, and I'm guessing this is why the shrimp were tough and stringy - it's a sin and a shame. We may try them again down the road, but for the time being we feel like we wasted 40 bucks on nothing.

Terrific fish and chips in an old school mall. Everything is fried on-order (also oil is supposed to be changed daily) and comes out super hot so be careful! Huge portions (i finished the fish but still had 2/3 of the mushrooms and fries to take home to bake later) I had the fried Pollock because the Cod was sold out! Still quite delicious, will return and hope the Cod is in stock :) Super friendly and police service BUT...not sure if there is a toilet around?

I tried this place again. I ordered a double catch. The portions got smaller. They used to give 2 thick and long pieces, it seems like they cut it in the middle and then cut it in half to make four pieces. Wow The price also increased and the portions got smaller. You won't see me there again. $40 for 5 small strips of fish and 6 shrimps. They won't survive ripping off customers.

As always, phenomenal meal from Hundal Sahib! For my mom's 75th birthday I offered to tak her out to Sunday brunch, but what she REALLY WANTED was the fried cod from this place. We had it with hush puppies, Chips, fried zucchini and cauliflower. Everything was well seasoned, fresh, and crispy even after the 30 min car ride. They even gave my mom some free ice cream to say thank you. I can't say enough good things about this place. They don't have a website, but will post current menu pics with this review so y'all can see the offerings! Hope people will continue to support this small family business!

The cod is much better than the catfish. 10/10!! The mushrooms are delicious as well! Good hushpuppies too. Can't go wrong with this place, the best fish and chips I've ever had! I tried the catfish and it was just OK. But seriously, that cod is amazing! The staff are very nice, which is a bonus.

This under new ownership BOY compare to previous owner this place is a RIP Off $21 for catfish 3 small prawns very little chips and veggies cut so small that the vegetables is so small you barely tell what it is. Absolutely Godawful. The onion rings were bungee cords. The chips were inedible. The fish was without flavor and texture. The Cole slaw was gray porridge. We ate small portion of the meal, tried to give the rest to the dog, but he refused and gave us a reproachful stare. Maybe the least appetizing meal served west of the Mississippi since the Donner Party got stuck in the snow.

Yaissss!! Found this by getting lost in Richmond! Super fresh everything! Superior portion! A little pricey but you will be surprise by the amount and its quality! No fishy after taste. I ordered cod and oh my goodness, it's so fresh and huge! Love it!! I don't mind getting lost again if I will find such amazing place like this! Huge portion. Fries is so fresh and the real deal! Nothing quite like it ! Try it to believe it! Keep up the good work!!!

It seems that many have differing preferences in what they view as the ideal fish and chips, but I'm not sure how anyone can describe this place as anything less than scrumptious.

The food is top notch, been a few times and they never disappoint. I wish it was closer to my house. I had the cod double catch and split with my wife, which means we also got prawns, fries, and onion rings. The batter was crunchy but not too heavy, and not too light, just perfect. The food tastes like they just changed the oil, sometimes fried food has that flavor of bad oil; but their food always tastes fresh. I'm not 100% sure, but I think they cut and batter everything to order, it tastes that fresh. The best part, the owners are super nice with awesome decorations on the walls. And the icing on the cake: they have Loards ice cream! Best ice cream you'll ever have and not easy to find.

Great service, exactly what you order. Only downside is that the cornmeal crust on the catfish is wayyyyy, wayyyyyyyyyy too salty. The batter on the broccoli and mushrooms were heavenly - I'm not sure what culinary magic they employed to reach such crunchy, golden goodness.

HS Fish & Chips has become my favorite fish place. I have had the catfish, cod, and prawns and they have all been delicious! All of the food is seasoned just right and fried to the perfect texture. I also enjoy their selection of ice cream! This is one of the few places where I can find my favorite flavor (banana). I absolutely recommend this establishment.

I went here for the first time as a lover of fish and chips and we had a good experience. The cod combo was a bit pricey but the food quality and taste was good overall and reminded me of the traditional fish and chips you get in London. I know we will be coming back again. As there is limited places in the Bay that you can get good quality fish & chips, we found that this was a good option.

This is a nice Mom and Pop operation. The owners are very friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Came here when I was craving shrimp and chips and hubby was craving fish and chips. It was pleasant to bump into some friends here, who told us this was one of their favorite places to eat out. I did have the shrimp and chips and hubby did have the fish and chips. We were both amazed at how large the portions were! The food was good, a few notches above fast food. It was great that the portions were huge which gave a good bang for the buck, but personally I got overwhelmed by so much fried food in one sitting. Even the vegetables were dipped in batter and deep-fried. The taste was great, but I got fried out and carbed out. It put me in a fried food coma. The only negatives are sometimes inconsistent hours and closed days, and the menu high up on the wall is hand written and not very eye-friendly, at least not to me. But the service is great, the food is cooked to order and good, and the owners are very sweet and eager to serve. They also offer Loard's ice cream here which our friends really liked.

Ordered the Double Catch ( 2 cod, 6 prawns, fries and onion rings as the extra veg). It was ready for pick up in 15 minutes. You can ask for tartar sauce and cocktail sauce or vinegar. The brown paper bag was torn open at the corners to prevent sogginess. Because we had to drive almost 30 minutes to get home, we knew we had to reheat everything. The cod was definitely fresh and the prawns were large. The batter is a bit too thick, we prefer a tempura style batter. The onion rings were battered and could have been fried a bit longer. The fries are real potatoes but cut too thick and not fried enough to maintain crispness. Despite all the above, we enjoyed our meal. If we ate there we'd probably be even happier.

Very good quality food. A lot of their fish are wild caught and they use simple ingredients that still bring out the flavor just fine. The food never tasted oily or greasy either. Portion sizes are very big, even for one person so if you're not a big eater, expect leftovers which I see as getting your money's worth. It is very expensive but for what they provide and the quality, is very worth it compared to many places beyond just fish and chips. They also have a wide variety of delicious, smooth ice cream.

Review #104 - 2019 I've had this place bookmarked for quite some time. We finally decided to make a quick stop because the kids wanted ice cream, while my son wanted a light snack since he just got off from tennis practice & hadn't eaten. We showed up around 5:45 PM on Friday, and there were a few customers inside already waiting on their take out orders. At first, I was planning on placing a small order just for my son--since my niece & nephew said they'd just eaten. Unfortunately, after I started ordering, I just kept going. I guess I wanted to try everything on the menu. Luckily, my nephew & niece ended up changing their minds and helped us eat after we waited about 30 minutes or so for our orders to arrive. The kids insisted on going elsewhere for ice cream after they found out that the ice creams were from Loard's, since there's a Loard's only about 2 minutes away from my house. That was a good call as we were pretty much stuffed at the end of our meal. We got the 2-piece catfish combo, which comes with a side of fries & my son asked for onions rings as his second side. The catfish was very good, but pretty heavy on the salt. I wonder if we can ask for less salt if we return in the future. The onion rings were good, but I didn't really care for the fries too much. Unfortunately, I ordered an extra side of fries because that's the only thing that my niece eats so we ended up wasting about 75% of it. The fried mushrooms were good, but got pretty overwhelming after awhile. Thank goodness I only got the half order. I got a half order of hush puppies as well & they were cooked perfectly. Not dry or burnt like many places that I've gone to. The plantains were probably the highlight of the meal for me, honestly. It was very sweet & the batter was cooked perfectly. We didn't even need the syrup at all. Service was very nice & attentive. Unfortunately, we all suffered from a massive headache later due to the grease overload. Too much fried food is definitely not good for the body. We'll remember to order moderately next time...

This was my favorite fish and chips place in the bay area. The previous owners moved away and took their recipes with them. I wish the new owners the best of luck. Here is my opinion of the food now. I ordered the cod double catch. It came with 6 shrimp fries and coleslaw. I don't think I got the cod I ordered as the fish was dry on the inside. Cod is moister. The shrimp seemed smaller. The flavor hinted of well used oil. The batter has changed and is too thick. The cocktail sauce and the tartar sauce now taste like they came out of a bottle. The coleslaw is soupy, too sweet and it is minced too fine. The fries while fresh were soft and not crisp. Things are not the same if you have been here before. The new owner said the food was the same.....NOT! Prices have increased as well. Too bad because this place used to rock. I hope in the future the new owners can rise to the level of perfection this place used to achieve.

Newly reopened with new owners as of last week! I'm so excited to try them out! They are open! They are open! They are open!!

Got a jumbo prawn order, comes w/11 prawns the fried batter makes them look large but very bland no taste, the fries were old & half rotten couldn't eat them, the coleslaw taste the best. The few times I've come here their cod was good so I thought I would try different. Big mistake! $23 wasted..Pictures below

Rico pero no me gusta el lugar. Very nice people, light battered onion rings and the cod was good! But it was very hard to eat outside amidst the cars coming and going, spewing exhaust everywhere.

Love this shop, very friendly staff and great fish and chips. Great variety to choose from the menu. Very glad they reopened, it's just the best fish and chips place in the area. They even have fried plantains now. Get any combo, ice cream and some fried bananas and you are set. Check this place out !!!

I have been wanting to try this place since I discovered it BEFORE the pandemic. Picking a Sunday, I was delighted that the quality was TOP NOTCH. Although I came while they were out of the Cod, the Pollock was available and their oil was nice, clean, non flakey fish. Their batter was good, the fish not over fried and all together with the chips (fries) it was great. They've just earned themselves a new customer and bringing it home, my wife and I shared the portions as the 2 fish combo was enough for 2 people. You owe it to yourself to try this place, as the owner was a great lady, kind and we will be going there again! Thanks folks!
