A gem for Southeast Asian culinary needs in down town Wheaton. Easy to access, lots of place to park your vehicles. Mostly Vietnamese, Chinese-Malaysian and Indonesian food things would be find easily. You can get a frozen Durian Monthong as well! 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

This place is a gem. They are stacked floor to ceiling with asian items. Lenny is the owner and he is extremely friendly and accommodating. My family has been shopping here for years. Lenny alway asks about my family members and he is genuinely concerned. Their selection is great. They offer many items that they prepare themselves which are quite tasty. Our family favorite is the Cassava Pie. When my first wife passed away in 2009 leaving me not only single but also forced me to start cooking. I had never done any of this. His wife helped me immensely with my multiple questions on what order to add ingredients to stir fry and a multitude of advise on how to cook various dishes. All these years later I still attribute my cooking success to her help. They are truly a family store. All of their kids worked there as they grew up. We strongly recommend this place. They are the real thing!

A great store hidden store! I get all of my coffee here because Vietnamese coffee is my favorite.

It is a well-stocked Asian grocery store carrying products from Indochina, South-East Asia, and the Far East etc. It is more medium-sized than big, but it has some interesting selections. The fridges has desserts such as cendol etc, the produce section has Asian mustard greens or aubergines etc, the back section has prayer incense, kitchen utensils, the aisles have varieties of Asian sauces or oils, other aisles has Asian canned foods, dried noodles, or prepacked spices etc. There is a section on front that sells packaged meals, fruits, and banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches), and occasionally, steamed or baked Asian desserts. The store's claim to fame will be their rice noodles which are freshly made in-house. Their basement factory produces these rice noodles for the use of the surrounding Asian restaurants. These are fully formed and steamed noodles but are not made "ready to eat", but are meant to be taken home and cooked with other ingredients first. These noodles are bundled in packs and only available a bit later in the morning, and not on all days either, depending on their production. There is a free carpark of about 10 (?) spaces next to the store (see photo), and metered parking is available on the street. There is no public restroom available.

Greeted by the friendly Vietnamese owner. A lot of variety at good prices. Hot fresh food available. Looking forward to our return visit.

Okay, so if you've never been to Hung Phat Grocery, you are seriously missing out on the most delightful cultural grocery experience in Silver Spring that I have had so far. This place is packed with authentic Vietnamese goodies that will make your taste buds do a happy dance and stuff that not only can't be found in Eden Center but items that would require a trip to Saigon (or maybe Cali!). From the moment you walk in and around, you will know this place has all the good stuff. Need fish sauce? They've got every kind. Craving instant pho or some killer Vietnamese coffee? They have it. And then there's Mr. Lenny who is the heart and soul of Hung Phat. This man deserves a medal for hospitality! He somehow manages to be your friendly neighborhood grocer, food tour guide, and even slight comedian all rolled into one. He'll help you find exactly what you need, and probably convince you to try something you didn't even know existed (and you'll thank him later). Hung Phat Grocery isn't just a store, it's an experience and I implore you to check it out over HMart. Lotte and the like. No knock on the big Asian supermarkets but this is place where locals, foodies, and curious wanderers all meet over a shared love of good food and good vibes. We always make a visit here when I'm in town. This is a very well stocked Asian grocery store owned by Vietnamese Chinese Americans. Owner is always very social, friendly and loves to chat in Mandarin Chinese. Today, he let me taste a lemongrass green beans and pork dish from the hot foods bar. I would've bought an order but it was just too spicy for me, but very tasty. This place is also stocked with many ready made Thai and Vietnamese dishes, including egg rolls, Vietnamese breads, Chinese crullers, Vietnamese desserts, Vietnamese rice rolls, Chinese pork and chicken baos, Thai mango salad, etc. Take a look inside the fridges when you first enter this grocery store. They have a lot packed in here and have a lot of what you need for Asian cooking. It's a small store with narrow aisles and packed to the gills. We also come here to get Asian incense sticks, which they have a good selection to choose from. Small parking lot outside and you can find metered parking on the street also. A very solid, Asian supermarket that probably has a lot of what you need. We will definitely be back.

Awesome small southeast Asian grocery. They have hat nem for those of you who are making pho, one of the few stores in Maryland that have it (I've gone to all the ones in Rockville and Gaithersburg to find it).

Hung Phat Grocery One of the best asian grocery in my list, locally owned by a Vietnamnese. The aisles are well stocked and organized, some freezer items in freezer aisle along with fresh veggies. Some ingredients like fish sauce or certain brands of rice that you can only find here, nowhere else. Also have hot or warm homemade meals at the front area of the store, homemade meals cookings daily for lunch and maybe dinner if there's more left. I have had very little luck finding any kaffir lime leaves recently. I've gone to Hmart, and 99Ranch in Gaithersburg and Fairfax. I've checked Lotte. No luck. And then I looked up Thai grocer and of course Yelp suggested Hung Phat Grocery which I had no idea it existed till today. What a gem of a place! Talk about a hidden gem alright. It's right by Nava Thai, and across from Safeway and close to Wheaton Mall. I was thrilled to find frozen shaved coconut which is essential to create kerisik --a dry roasted shaved coconut. I haven't had very good luck finding them in the area but now I know where I can find them. They also carry Arroy-D Coconut milk, which in my opinion tastes better than other brands. It was less than $1.60 per can beating the price of $1.89 at 99Ranch Fairfax. I thought that was a steal too. They also have fresh Vietnamese noodles perfect to accompany homemade pho or making other noodle dishes like pad thai. All in all their selections of essentials to create Thai, Vietnamese, or Malay or Indonesian was phenomenal. Given the location it's in, it's normally not the easiest to find good parking much less FREE parking in front of the store. They've earned themselves a loyal customer today just with the ease of parking part! Perhaps some of the only complaints I have are how narrow and cramped the store inside is and how unfresh the keffir limes were. I mean I originally came in just to purchase some and all I got were $3 fistful of sad sad frozen brown leaves. I mean you put those leaves in curry dishes as aromatics and what's the damn point of it if it's so browned and stale? Next time, I'll know better and just skip it. Lastly, figuring out where to queue up for register is very confusing. Just a warning though!

This grocery is rad! I have been here several times and I have all the stuff that I need for my cuisine.

Great store. There are a lot of Thai and Vietnamese ingredients and foods you can't get at the big Korean grocery stores like Lotte and HMart. They have some prepared food that usually come in on Saturday around noon and it always pretty good. I really like their bubble tea also. The people who work there are nice and friendly.

The best grocer in DC, not just for Asian foods, but for the entire shopping experience. A pleasure to walk into the place, a delight to walk out with your bags full!

I ran into this cute little grocery store while visiting Wheaton. It is walking distance from the Wheaton metro station, and so is pretty convenient. They also have their own parking, so you can skip the street parking. Hung Phat not only makes their own meals in the store, but also have a selection of bubble tea recipes. As a fruit milk tea hunter, I can verify how good their mango milk bubble tea recipe is! I was happy to have ran into this spot whilst craving some bubble tea. I also took a walk around the store and found a selection of Asian drinks, snacks, condiments, and some general groceries as well. Worth the visit!

Pro: specializing in Asian ingredients & food, friendly service/ staff. Con: small parking lot, meter parking. My family have been shopping at this store for Asian ingredients for years(20+) and the owner is a very nice man who get to know his customers. They also offer boba tea and have a food station. Anything you need from rice noodle, cha( viet pork) , Asian oil, banh mi, and more they got. The only down side for me is that the parking lot is small and lot of Asian people drive big cars so when they try to reverse out it a mess :( There is the option of meter parking on the street but the rate is so trash, for one quarter they only give you 12 minutes. Meter maid do go around looking and give tickets so be careful. All in all this store is great and help provide a benefit to the Asian community.

This is a neighborhood Asian grocery store that is small in size but huge in options. They have a hot food bar and everything that I have had is great, especially if you are looking for truly authentic home made style dishes. They also have great cafe su da and other boba drinks that are spot on. Their vegetable section is so fresh and very good quality. They even sell vegetable plant starts for your garden. The owners are so warm and friendly with good recommendations for good local eateries. I love going here. It is one of my favorite places in this area.

I have stopped in here when dining nearby and gotten live plants in the Soring, small tins of Thai curry, and takeout food. The food was pretty good. The people are very nice here.

If I am in need of Vietnamese groceries this is a very good option. Stocked with every noodle, sauce, seasonings, and vegetables I'd need, this shop has it. It's location is convenient to other international food stores and restaurants. Prices seem fair and parking was easy to find in the area. I'm happy to support this local small business over a larger chain. Would recommend a visit!

Wonderful store that has all of your Asian grocery needs, even niche items like galangal. The owner is so kind and helpful and the interior is beautifully organized as well. I love this place and will be coming here often from now on!

Wow this place is an absolute gem in Wheaton. They also have their own parking so don't pay for the street parking. There are so many Vietnamese goodies here. Attached is a low quality picture of my finds...if only there was a taste feature! I had no idea what I was picking out when I was there because I've never seen some of the things they had but whatever I picked out ended up being really good.

I'll just echo what others have said - if you're cooking southeast Asian food and can't find an ingredient at Hmart, come here, or just skip Hmart entirely and start here. As a Korean chain, Hmart understandably gives more attention to Korean and Chinese items, so it's probably unsurprising that the selection of Thai and Vietnamese items at Hung Phat is simply in a different league altogether. The owners have also been friendly and helpful on multiple occasions and despite some slight language barriers have always been incredibly patient as I try to explain what I'm looking for...despite not entirely knowing myself :)

Hung Phat is a Vietnamese owned family grocery but they carry Indonesian and other Asian specialties. Also have prepared foods that you may not find elsewhere. Owner is always cheerful and helpful.

I've never had the prepared food but it is a great grocery store for anyone cooking Thai food. And the staff is very helpful and friendly. Check it out.

small asia an grocery store but probably has everything you need! they also have bubble tea but it's closed on wednesday's last time I checked. their taro tea was nice and so was the slushy with good tasting bubbles and flavor. love supporting local shops!

The best little hidden gem for vietnamese iced coffee and bubble tea! Oh they also have authentic thai food ready to serve. I go there to pick up lunch and dinner. You won't find homemade authentic Thai food anywhere else like this.

This store one a hidden gem, its located around the corner accross from mi la cay restaurent. This place mainly sells south east Asian goods from vietnamese to Chinese to Japanese amd so on. I really enjoy coming here for vietnamse dessert i,e banh ich or banh chuoi and other stuff. I really think this is place provides a wide collection of goods and pretty much the merchandise is always available and hardly ever run outta stuff.

This small but authentic grocery caters to the Southeast Asian community in DC and Md area. It is different than a big grocery chain like H-Mart because it offers some smaller but authentic brands. Inside you will also find this bubble tea and ready to eat meals. I wish they pack those foods into plastic containers rather than serving in tray like Bangkok 54. It will look cleaner.

Check your receipt, the last 3 visits they over charged me, they scan the same items but added more, 2 became 3, 3 became 4 . I don't know if it was an accident or they did it in purpose, but I'v got that more than couple of times . Be careful when shop there

Love this cute quaint market that houses many hard to find asian cooking ingredients, spiritual items, frozen items and some small kitchen items. They also have cooked food available. Really nice owner and COVID friendly shop.

Classic Asian grocery, tucked into a Wheaton side street, easy to miss, and with a wide spectrum of Asian awesomeness. From Chinese to Korean to Vietnamese and more, they cover a lot of ground. There's veggies, meats, and baked and gelatinous desserts; a full aisle of sauces (soy, oyster, hot, etc etc); dried pastas and instant noodles; herbs, spices, rubs and soup mixes; canned goods, juices and junk food; dishes and potted bamboo and other fun randoms. There's also a counter where you can grab a meal to go, or a restaurant in the back for a sit-down dinner. As is customary, this little Asian grocery fits a ridiculous amount and variety of stuff into a small space. And it smells fantastic. Love it.

I am a novice at shopping for Asian foods, but the friendly owner(?) at the register made me feel welcomed. I popped in to buy some eggs and browse. Of course, my eyes wondered towards the desserts near the register. If I didn't have a full bag of Oreos back at home (go ahead and laugh at me, I'm vanilla) I would have bought some sticky rice. I had take out from a nearby place, and I wanted to get home and dig in. They have a small lot that was heavily trafficked. I opted to pop a quarter in the meter directly across the street to avoid stress and a possible fender bender maneuvering my SUV on the cramped lot.

Super nice family-owned joint. Fresh Rice-noodle rolls and cut rice noodles (like, for char-kway-teow / pad ki mao/ beef chow fun). The Southeast Asian herbs they sell seem to be consistently be fresher than what I find at H Mart, and it's a little closer to me (I think they're growing them themselves.) I'm now sold on this grocery store when I'm making anything south of the China/Vietnam border. I did see signs for a few lunch curries, stews, etc. but didn't see anyone manning that station. If they do a khao kang sort of thing, I doubt I would be the only person interested in knowing the particulars. If you're into Thai curries that use khanom jin, I did see that they have guilin rice vermacelli in the back which to me has been the best substitute.

This is a small mom and pop asian grocery but it was clean and the selection quite large. The very nice owner was at the register and he was transparent and careful in calculating my purchase and provided helpful hints on how to reheat some of the fresh-refrigerated food items. Didn't try the boba tea but saw several people order while we were in the store. The BBQ pork (char-su) baos are outstanding.

My favorite Vietnamese-Thai grocery store in the DC area. It's too bad I have to settle on the Cho Saigon supermarket in Eden Center due to distance, because the finds at this joint are better. What makes Cho Saigon good is that all the places next door where you can pick up fresh this-or-that, freshly made tofu & soy milk, goodies, etc. But as standalone grocery stores, Hung Phat is where it's at. Really nice people working there too. So 5 stars is relative, for DC.

Large selection and the friendliest owner! They have huge variety of groceries and small fresh produce section. Great hours, too. We love the homemade Thai desserts.

Aside from offering a wide variety of hard-to-find items, the owner is the sweetest, most lovely person. Once he heard me coughing a little while I was shopping (pre-COVID times and I had just swallowed wrong), and he pressed some tea with honey on me to help my cough. Some of my favorite prepared items are the green papaya salad in the tubs in the fridge near the entrance and the fried bananas (with coconut in the batter). Also in the early spring they have Asian vegetable plants like malabar spinach and Thai basil.

My favorite Asian grocery store!!!It's papa & mama store that has been in the area for few decades. The owners are very hard working people and very friendly,very generous. They just added bubble tea section in there and their bubble teas are the best in town. They also have Thai hot foods section that several people said the best Thai foods in town. The taste of the Thai foods here are much better than Thai foods in Bangkok!!!The are extremely busy on the weekends and especially during Chinese New Year. I love this time of the year when they have several orange trees,deserts and several items for celebration of Chinese New year.

The owners are so sweet, they have a great selection to choose from and unbeatable prices. I feel so blessed to live so close and it's a bonus that they have a small eatery in the back!!

Great family style Thai grocery store. I don't go in knowing what I wanted so I can't speak on their inventory. But I thought it was a great little store with wonderful things to explore.

This is a neighborhood market specializing in mostly Vietnamese goods. They have a great selection on dried goods, frozen and shelf items. As for produce, tofu and meats - they aren't that plentiful and fresh. Service is good. They are friendly and always helpful. Prices are reasonable. I wouldn't come here unless I needed just a couple items. I'm willing to take the extra hike to Rockville to grab everything I need in one stop.

I really enjoy coming to this family-run market for the foods I miss from SE Asia. Only place near where I live where I can get my fix of M150 or Krating Daeng LOL. Also the only place that I've seen where I can actually buy a whole Durian fruit. The food bar and bubble tea bar really make good food and drink as well. Owners are friendly and helpful.

I go here a lot for the homemade goodies. They have Thai and Vietnamese comfort foods, snacks, and desserts. They have everything you'd find in a typical Asian supermarket. Be careful of expiration dates though, I bought 2 bags of shrimp chips here once that was already a month expired.

Love that i can find a lot of my seasoning in this place and i also love their bubble tea. They hsve more asian stuffs than hmart.

Family run. That's one of the reasons I come here. Yeah they don't have as large a selection as the Korean mega Marts but what they do have you cant buy. I have been coming here since I was 15 with my mom. Coming here is like coming home for me. They have grown with the times adding a hot food bar and restaurant in the back but they have always managed to stay the little mom and pop grocery store where you are greeted by name upon entering offered noodles and other goodies at check out. The second generation is starting to take over now. Seeing them grow and going off to school and now coming back and putting their own touch into the family business. They have added a coffee/smoothie bar offering many delicious bubble teas and natural fruit smoothies. What sets themselves apart is the fact theyI use fresh fruit instead of the flavored powders so many other bubble tea places use. They take in special request and they go above and beyond to make every drink perfect. The oldest son Mike runs this little gem. Give it a try if you find yourself shopping in the area. You will not be disappointed.

I stopped in there today and it was not what I thought it would be. The store was deserted and I could not find much prepared food or hot bar foods. Pretty desolate.
