Hungry Bear Restaurant

The food was amazing! I had the grizzly burger that was bison and elk, onion rings with jalapeno ranch dipping sauce and half sweet half unsweetened tea. It was a bit of a wait because of only one waitress, but the food was well worth the wait!

Up and at em! Opens at 7am. There was four of us that stopped in for a quick breakfast, before hitting the dusty trail. Smaller in size, service was prompt and pleasant. We all had something well different and after placing our order breakfast was served within ten minutes. Everything was very tasty and portion sizes were perfect. Well worth the stop.

With all the high reviews, I expected better. Being the first customers in the door, we didn't expect to wait 45 minutes for simple burgers. Food was mediocre at best. Bacon on burger is chopped (not strips) and tasted like fake smoke. The seats and benches are torn.

What a great experience! Our server Cindy was very interactive with our group and children, even towards the end of her double shift. The food was amazing as well, we are definitely making another trip back there soon!

A hidden gem in Cody and our family loved the food. Quite a lot of selection of salads combined with fried or grilled chicken, chillie among others. The shrimp and chicken baskets are also excellent. The time we came, the restaurant was full and we had to wait a bit. A customer walked by and told us that ‘it was worth to wait’ - which was so very true.

What a great place. Just a bit off the beaten path in Cody, but we'll worth the visit. I ordered the Ultimate Burger as pictured and was NOT disappointed. It was hot and fresh and not made from the typical pre-frozen and formed patties thank goodness unlike most chain restaurants. Services was excellent as our waitress was very kind and cheerful even though it was almost closing time when we got there. All around a must visit if you are in Cody!! Highly recommended!!

My partner and I stopped into this restaurant while driving through Cody and we are glad this is the one we picked!!!! The service was awesome and the people were very friendly and welcoming. He also got this MONSTER BURGER!!! So delicious. Such kind people with positive attitudes and also such a nice environment. Definitely stop in here if you need a good bite!!

Must stop in here! Everyone here was so friendly and helpful, it's a family run operation and you can definitely tell they care. We came in fairly late but we were seated relatively quickly. I will say, they were super busy so it wasn't the fastest but they made up for it with the friendly folks and great food. They have a fantastic kids menu that will please the pickiest of eaters and the adult menu is great as well. I had a small pizza and I must say it was the best I had during my stay in Cody, it was delicious. My wife had the manicotti and she said it was great as well.

I ordered the meatball sandwich which is served hot and delicious. husband ordered the club sandwich which should only be attempted by those with big appetites. It's an incredibly large, good meal.

Breakfast was outstanding. Had the ham scramble hungry bear breakfast. Service is a little slow as the cashier is the busser, greeter, waitress, and changes all the drinks at the multiplexer. Needs another helper. Highly recommend stopping in, nice change up breakfast from the Hampton Inn every day.

Cute, comfortable, friendly and serving tasty food all rolled into one: That's Hungry Bear. It's called a restaurant, but it reminds me more of a cafe bordering on diner, but without the counter seating. With an expansive menu and a busy take-out business, this place deserves attention. The people traffic in and out even during my limited time was astounding. I think that's a good sign. It was a good sign based on my first time experience. My sandwich, the special that day, was probably the best Rueben I've had in quite a long time. The bread was toasty, the meat and kraut nicely balanced and there was not so much sauce as to make it soggy. I don't know what the chef did, but I still have fond memories of the sandwich. When I commented on it to my server, I was told the cook was her son, so maybe this is a family place. There isn't a lot of seating here, but it's a fun place to wait for a table. The conversations you overhear from the locals is a not to be missed adventure. I heard about horses, mules, barrel racing, rodeos and ranching and, of all things, coffee.

Good home-cooked style food. It was a wonderful place to stop for a hot meal after camping at Yellowstone and Grand Teton for the week. The owner is also the server and she was great although she did look like she could use a vacation. Highly recommend this family-owned restaurant.

Great food, huge portions and friendly staff. Cindy was our waitress and she was friendly and very attentive. The coffee was delicious. Will eat here again next time through!

Food was tasty, service quick and it was just what we look for, a local feel not a chain diner.

Too bad I can't leave a 0 star rating. Upon arrival we were seated, and we sat, and sat, and sat, and sat, and sat. We finally got coffee and menus , and we sat, and sat, and sat, and sat, and sat. After sitting for 30 minutes with only coffee and menus in-hand, we left. I didn't come to Cody to waste half a day trying to get breakfast. The food may be phenomenal, but absent the ability to order, we'll have to hear it from those who have half a day to find out. Sad!!

The food is wonderful fresh and always good. The service is sometimes a bit slow but it is worth the wait! Their Alfredo is so good. But everything is good! Great burgers and their pizza is delicious. The little family owned restaurant is a local secret. Let's keep it that way.

So damn good we ate there 2 mornings in a row whle visiting Cody. Thanks to Yelp reviewers we decided to try it out. The first morning, before we headed to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West (which is one of the best museums of any kind), we arrived just after closing for breakfast. We begged and pleaded and were granted a booth for late breakfast. Don't arrive late! We then enjoyed a great breakfast of omelets, cakes, and some fine coffee. Can't imagine a much better way to start the day. The next morn we arrived before closing and were warmly greeted and treated to another fine repast before our long drive to Butte. We love Cody anyway, but Hungry Bear just adds to that love!

Food was fine but unfortunately they were short staffed. It took a while to get our order in. However i would still try this restaurant again regardless.

Visiting Yellowstone and we wanted burgers on our way back into Cody. Found the Yelp rating and stopped in for takeout just a few minutes before closing. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating despite the hour, talking with us about our experience in the park and suggesting what else we might want to make time to see. The two Ultimate Burgers were the best we've had on our trip across four states thus far, measuring almost 5 inches in height and piled with onion rigs and avocado with a dill spear on the side. Hands down amazing. Too bad we don't live in Cody, this would be one of our go-to places. The owner's mom also threw in a sample of their blood orange vinergrette with the steak salad - would reccomend!

The menu is crazy broad for such a small place. Good for guets but I feel sorry for the cooks and servers. Our server was very nice and the patrons were obviously loocal. A clerk at the sporting goods store recommended the place = particularly the Pizza. Pizza was adequate - not a masterpiece but a decent pizza that hit the stop. My son enjoyed his chilli burger and fries.

Excellent waitstaff and probably some of the best coffee I've had in a restaurant. Great food and I will definitely be back.

Not open at 10:45 in the morning. Hours posted stated they were and Yelp identified them as "open now". But nope.

Excellent! Service was great. Food was awesome! Very friendly hometown type of place. We went on Tuesday evening and loved it so much that we went back the next day. The first night my husband had the Ultimate burger and I had the Alicia burger. Our daughters had the shrimp basket and chicken tenders basket. I had dreams of this Alicia burger. I've never had a burger with chicken on top. I was totally surprised at how good it was! The next night I got the Alicia burger again, my husband got the meat lovers pizza and had them add jalapeños. One daughter got the Hot Mama burger and the other got the shrimp basket again. The food is reasonably priced. The only negative I can find is that the soda's were $3.00 each, which I thought was a bit pricey. If you are in the area try this you will love it!

Wide range of food efficiently served in a clean environment. I prefer the brunch but did see others eating other dishes and seemingly enjoying it. Nothing special but up to a good standard

If you ever get a chance and/or haven't had the opportunity to eat at The Hungry Bear, you should take that opportunity as soon as you can. Don't eat in the big fast food chains when literally you can spend about $2 more and get a fresh, home style, high-quality meal and support a local small business in their family.

By far some of the best pizza in town. Crust was crispy and loaded with toppings! Customer service was great excellent.

The owner, Alicia is quite possibly one of the most gracious people we have met! This restaurant is not located in the tourist center of town, but easy to drive to and well worth it. Delicious club sandwich and headless crawdads with an excellent cajun dip.

My,my,my.... what a wonderful surprise!!! Get the Denver Omelette smothered in Green Chile, it's nothing short of amazing! Portions are served Wyoming style.... big! Great service, simple, clean atmosphere. Service with a smile! Don't miss this gem!

Absolutely love Hungry Bear! The food is absolutely spectacular every time and you get so much food for a very reasonable price. Everybody is sweet as pie and greets you like an old friend the moment you walk in! The restaurant itself is cosy and inviting, very much a come as you are no need to dress up relaxed experience. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner always a 10/10 meal. So many options to choose from as well, something for everyone!

Amazing food I will forever recommend this place to anyone. I had their Rodeo burger and will definitely be back to try their breakfast.

The food is great, but if management would allow the waitress's assistant (they only have ONE waitress) to at least give patrons menus and beverages, that would do alot to alleviate the unbelievably LONG wait to have your order taken! Coffee and/or perusing a menu can make the "waiting" time go by better.

We ordered pizza to go. It was delicious and the price was very reasonable. We got thin crust which was crunchy but flavorful. The pizzas were filled with toppings. Try their homemade homemade cookies. YUMMY

Good place to stop for lunch. The waitress was blah and not welcoming at all. The menu is large and there's something for every appetite. I enjoyed the ravioli with garlic bread. My husband enjoyed the chili burger. Take a risk off the beaten route with this place.

Great food for a great price!!! We paid $200 for 6 of us in Jackson, WY the previous night. This was very good and it was only $88. It looks a little different because it's in a strip mall but just go!! I had a steak sub and hubby had the garbage hotdog and they were AWESOME!!

Hungry Bear is Cody's little secret for fabulous food and great service. It's a smaller, family run restaurant that offers a full menu with plenty of options. Wonderful home cooked food for take out or dine-in.

After having breakfast at Hungry Bear, We were sad that we were only in town 1 day. We both loved our meal and the service was great. I had the Hungry Bear one egg Haystack and husband had the Wyoming omelet. I enjoyed mine and he said his omelet was the best he's ever had! I can tell you one thing, it was enormous. Thank you!

After reading the reviews thought I'd try this place. Food is excellent and portion size is not lacking. Definitely recommend.

The only place I've found so far in town that does sweet tea correctly. Good food and excellent service. I enjoy the calzone and cincin burger, which has fried pickles on it. The restaurant is always very clean. Off the main drag, it's one of my favorite places in town.

An amazing place where the service comes with a sincere smile. Price is reasonably cheap for food that is tremendously good. My wife ordered one pancake and got a plateful that she could not finish. My order of classic 3 of 2 eggs over easy with hash browns and 2 slices of bacon was perfect. It's too bad we're leaving this afternoon but the next time I go to Cody, tbis is my go to place for breakfast!!

We ended up eating here 3 times on our visit to Cody. The pizza was great the dough is made in house we also had burgers , spaghetti and chicken parm along with a few appetizers . Everyone was happy with their order . The staff is friendly you are greeted as soon as you walk In the door . Can't wait to go back and try some other items on the menu

Some of the best food in Cody! You literally can't choose a bad thing on the menu. Michael and Alicia treat you like family and feed you like royalty!!

Wow, steak scrambled, chicken fried steak, French toast with fresh strawberries.... Service was prompt and very friendly, everything made perfect. Fresh food and the way you want it. We'll have to come back further lunch or dinner menu.

Unfortunately I do not have a positive experience to share. Not only did we have to flag down the waitress to take our drink orders, but we had to ask how long it would take to get our dinner. It took over a half hour to get our food, my request for extra sauce was forgotten and we were left in the corner and forgotten. A member from my party had to walk up to the counter to request my extra sauce which still took another 5-10 minutes. My gyro was extremely underwhelming as was the service. I believe there was only one slice of lamb on my gyro and the sauce seemed to be sour cream with a dash of chives. When asked how my meal was I was honest and forthcoming with that it was not to my satisfaction. The waitress said she would inform the cook, but did not offer a solution of any form. Poor service and mediocre food.

My husband and I stopped here on our way out of town. We were immediately served water then NOTHING. We sat waiting to have someone take our order for over 25 min. Another man who came in at the same exact time was waited on timely. We were never even acknowledged that they were running behind. Once we finally were waited on it was rushed and not friendly. The reviews I read before choosing this restaurant were raving on the food. I have to tell you they were right. Both of our meals were amazing!! The food has to be what keeps this restaurant in business not the service. I can understand a bad day but just let your customers know...don't ignore them. If you chose to go which I do recommend due to the amazing food be prepared to wait.

If I could leave 0 star I would. we wait patiently for 25 minutes and they never took our order. Even people that came after us was serve. We left hungrier and super disappointed of our first dinning experience in Cody

A quaint but great restaurant off the main drag. Our breakfast was great, the waitress was friendly and professional.

Excellent, hearty breakfast before we headed to the park. Reasonably priced. And the best brewed coffee I've tasted in a very long time.

If you want great food at a fair price and honest to goodness the nicest people you could meet, look no further. We showed up late after a long day of hiking in the nearby mountains. The classic car show was in town that day and since they were serving street tacos at the show the restaurant was closed. Nevertheless, they bent over backwards to make sure that we hungry hikers went away satisfied. I'll be forever grateful. Eat at the Hungry Bear. You won't regret it.

Awesome place with a great menu and great service. The menu has a awesome verity of sandwiches, burgers, and pizzas. Highly recommend!!!!

The owners are just as wonderful as the food. Every single thing I've eaten here has been excellent. I'm a local and have eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinners here. All very good.

Small, friendly diner like feel with excellent food! The menu had so many more options than I anticipated. Everything was reasonably priced and the food itself was excellent. The sandwich I ate was toasted and I opted for the 6inch with a side of fries. I am fairly confident the 6inch was actually sizable larger and the fries were crispy and tasty. Would definitely go back to this place!

This place is awesome! I love the gyros here, my wife loves the burgers, and the generous portions of fries are delicious as well! The portions are large and the pizza is phenominal as well, with take and bake options.
