We came here for lunch after landing in St Johns. After sitting on a plane, this simple to the point meal was perfect. I didn't leave feeling heavy or hungry. I loved it even more after finding out that they do this as a social enterprise to help vulnerable adults and help get them into the food service industry. The service was really good and the food and atmosphere is perfect. There is a small outside area to eat but we just sat inside by the window. It's a lovely cafe to have lunch. We didn't need reservations or have to wait in line and came in 30 minutes before they were expected to close. We never felt rushed or like we were being waited for. I would say the cost is acceptable and for the cause, I would say that it is well worth paying for. Would definitely return to have lunch.

The ambiance of the place is good with giant windows. It's very bright and clean. The fresh little flower vase was a nice touch. The food is alright. Although it's unique, it's a little bit pricey. I liked the Mimosas here. Tried the soft shell moose tacos and breakfast on the bun with potatoes and salad. The dessert was delicious. The covid protocols are being practiced and the tables spread apart.

We came here for lunch and ordered the frittata with the side of the daily soup and fried cod cakes with the side of potato wedges. The food was lovely, filling, and not greasy at all. The fried cod cakes were absolutely delicious!

I'm gonna give an objective review since I'm not from NL and because I've only been there once. The cafe in itself is cute with a warm ambiance. First I was disappointed because I expected them to offer a variety of coffee like espresso but they only have regular filter coffee which isn't bad. Then, the service wasn't bad, but it was kinda strange.. From what I could grasp, I think employees there are being rehabilitated to society by being offered a job at this cafe by the church. Please, tell me if I'm wrong. I think it's great! More places should do this. But like I said it was kinda strange.. I think one of the server didn't like my boyfriend and he was giving him weird intense looks. I had to point it out. Then, the food was good. I had the applebutter grilled cheese. But the portion is too small for the price. I can't give a better rating because of these reasons. I'm still glad I tried it.

This teeny café is delightful. It’s not cramped, there is no uncomfortable banquette seating (thank the gods!) and it’s open and sunny in the morning. The server was extremely friendly and attentive. The food was delicious (we both had the hearty breakfast with sausage) and we were tempted by dessert afterwards but couldn’t have fit it in! We will definitely return though.

Really fantastic cafe. Came here for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was delicious without feeling too heavy or over-seasoned, and there was a good mix of traditional fare as well as more contemporary/creative options. Ambience was cozy but not cramped and space was well-lit. Service was friendly and very quick.

Short menu, short wine list and the very freshest ingredients at the Hungry Heart Cafe! Plus, the restaurant has a mission to train people who have barriers to employment. A feel good experience, all way 'round!

My mom and I really enjoyed our experience. We ate a delicious seasonal meal and finished with some yummy desserts. Glad to have found a place that serves great food and also does good work in the community.

Yelp
This joint is my personal favourite. It supports a great cause run by great people. I love the breakfast here. I had the frittata today. It was fantastic. Out server was very polite and knew the menu very well. Every question was answered with a very polite, old world charm you don't see much anymore. Nothing like pride in one's job - bravo. Coffee refills come without being asked for and the nice carafe of lemon water is a nice touch. On over to the meal itself. The portions are generous and the ingredients right from the farm fresh. I was very happy with the frittata - the roasted potatoes that came with it were delicious beyond. Normally, you would not have desert with breakfast. Make an exception here - break a small rule in life just once. We had a bake apple cheesecake that was over the moon. Parking can be a challenge, but you should find a spot behind the grey building just across the road or up around the corner on the street.

Yelp
We had a late lunch here after our flight arrived in St. John's. The menu is quite small but everything looks good. I had the breakfast quesadilla & hubby had the traditional. It was all delicious. The waitstaff were nice & also efficient. I love the views in this restaurant. The decor is classy but homey. Wood floors, light walls, some artwork on the walls. I would definitely eat here again. Just a note, this cafe is only open for breakfast & lunch. Not dinner.

Yelp
Food is creative and delicious however portions are somewhat small so not a good idea to show up starving

Yelp
Great place for brunch. Sit by the windows and watch the world go by! Beautiful food - always have a range of sweet and savoury breakfasts, as well as light and slightly more decadent. Small restaurant so recommend going early or making a reservation to get a table. Servers are very attentive and will refill coffee or as much as you need. Kitchen creations are unique and tasty - this last visit saw a curried tomato and caramelized onion frittata. It comes with hash browns or salad, and toast. Go for the cinnamon raisin... you won't regret it!

Yelp
Cute spot. Service was okay. Ordered halibut green curry, got microwaved plain rice and veges, served with no curry...?! The fresh fruit is NOT fresh at all. Won't go back again :(

Yelp
What a win win. Great food and your money goes to help the vulnerable in the community make a change in their life. We had them cater an event for 58. Chicken pot pie was very good. Loved the kale, fennel, almond and peach salad. Everything arrived on time. The chicken pot pies were hot. Great food. Great service. Provided everything we needed. Would definitely use again.

Yelp
What a delightful place! The Hungry Heart has a delicious menu at reasonable prices and their staff is so pleasant I really enjoyed the experience. The sweet potato soup was excellent! I Highly recommend them for lunch although you may want to get dropped off because there is absolutely nowhere to park! The only other comment is that they are not open enough - only lunches and I am not sure if that is every day.

Yelp
I recently went to the Hungry Heart Cafe for lunch with a few friends and was thoroughly impressed. It is a lovely little spot near downtown St. John's that serves up delicious food in a charming atmosphere. The menu consists of wonderful soups, salads, sandwiches, and daily features. I had an amazing cream of broccoli soup with the quiche of the day and was very satisfied. The prices are really decent too, so you can get a great meal and not break the bank! One of my favourite aspects of the meal was that my tea was served in a real china cup. Tea just tastes better that way! Not only is Hungry Heart a cafe, it's also part of a business that aims to assist adults in accessing the food industry and all profits go back into the employment training fund. I like knowing that I'm supporting a local business and especially one that provides additional benefits to the greater community. I would recommend Hungry Heart to anyone wanting a nice spot to sit and have a bite to eat with a lovely cup of tea. Plus apparently there is a Saturday brunch too which I plan on trying soon.

Yelp
Tasty breakfast, strong flavourful coffee, good music, impeccable service - though somewhat slow, peaceful elegant atmosphere in this gem of a cafe hidden away from the main tourist haunts
