Hungry Horse Drive-In

This is very much the locals spot. You have to find parking to go to the window to order or pick up. Menu looks very cookie cutter but don't be fooled. You get to stand around and wait for food with everyone else. Which was great, all friendly locals. We even made a business connection. Now to the food. We got the chicken plate, patty melt, fried wantons and combo platter. Great amount of food for each item. But I can't express in words how on point the favor profiles are. Seasoning, spicy sweet all perfectly balanced. The sauce for the wantons so so good. Highly recommend you give this place a try.

If you're looking for a decent spot with cheap prices to go to spot. I usually get the hamburger meal. It cost about 6 bucks get a drink with your pic of whatever can drink fries and a burger can't beat that. They're pretty quick about pushing out orders considering how slow most so-called fast food places are now.

Went here for the first time not too long ago, the prices are alright but ill admit I was disappointed that they didn't take card(its only cash or zelle) I got the farm burger and my nephew got the teriyaki bowl. Will admit the farm burger was good save for the chicken inside of it was really tough, and I was expecting how the teriyaki bowl looked in their photo but it was in a really small to go box(fits in my hand size). I'll have to come by again to try other food.

I ordered a double patty melt, well it turned out to be a sandwich with two hamburger patties n cheese. No sourdough bread or grilled onions. The shrimp n rice was actually good.

Combo bowl was good. Fried rice was outstanding and beat my expectations. Thai tea was spot on. I would definitely eat here again. **Update** Consistent outstanding quality at the price point. Multiple co-workers addicted. My to go to spot for lunch. Give it a shot. CA$H only

Food was ok Customer service is terrible ...again, idk if the ignorant black folks made them act that way or how they're raised in their culture toward blacks. I was respectful but they were scared to walk up to the window and take my order is wild. The lady gives off racist vibes. The guy stood far away from the order window, and I explained this was my first time.

I'm rarely disappointed, and the Hungry Horse Drive-In is a perfect example of this. The food is good and prices even better. I had the Farm Burger and it was simply delicious. I sampled her 3 Stick Special and it was pretty good, too. Do yourself a favor, and look for the Hungry Horse. Even better, when you're in a strange town and come across a little hole-in-the-wall place with a walk-up window and a line of people outside... step up and order a burger.

This place is a great spot, cheap burgers for only 5$ but still BOMB. They also get the food to you relatively fast- about 5-10 mins. Overall a great spot for hunger satisfying food for extremely low prices. 9.5/10, would recommend!!

Everything is very fresh large portions and unbelievably low prices lunch for two was only 17$ !!! My granddaughter and I will definitely be back for lunch.

I have always wanted to stop at this place but never had cash. They are cash only but they do take zelle. There was a pretty busy line during dinner time. I tried the chicken, beef, and shrimp. They were all pretty delicious. I also ordered some fried rice as well. The prices you can't beat for the amount of food you get. I definitely will be back to try a few more items on the menu. Check this place out if your in the area.

Hungry Horse satisfied my craving for cheap teriyaki and cream cheese wontons! The teriyaki chicken is not my favorite, but it got the job done. The chicken was a bit dry, but nothing teriyaki sauce and sriracha can't fix. The cream cheese wontons tasted exactly what you expect, straight cream cheese stuffed in wonton skins LOL It's just a carrier for sweet and sour sauce. The food came out relatively quickly, but you should put in a phone order! Cash only, and minimal seating outside. This is a small shack, not a place you should be expecting amazing, high quality food from. If you set your expectations correctly, you'll feel satisfied!

Hungry Horse Drive-In is a local establishment that has been around since the 1987. You actually walk up to their drive-in counter to order on the menu. Their menu and price haven't changed much over the years for their patrons and newcomers. Service is fast and friendly... as they take your order through their window. We usually order the chicken plate with mac salad and rice... and it's tasty. They marinate and grill their chicken just right. At times, we order an extra side of mac salad. Also try their ice blended boba drinks... large portion and delicious. If you are in the Wrigley area... drop by and order anything or everything on their menu, you won't be disappointed. Also, always support small and medium businesses for good service and quality of food served.

My husband stopped in for the first time in our 6yrs of living in Long Beach. He ordered the chicken/beef plate. It comes with macaroni salad and house green salad. Definitely good portion size at a great price. The meats are finely sliced which was a plus for me. I totally forgot to take a picture but I will when we are there again. To be continued

Hungry Horse is absolutely fantastic. I came here after having an appointment in the area. Luckily, I had cash as this is a cash only place. Thats probably why their prices are so great! It has a small parking lot which was full so I just parked on the side street. This is a total hole-in-the-wall place. They have everything from burgers and smoothies to plates and bowls. You can definitely order something on the healthier side here. I opted to try a 2 Combo plate. You get 2 choices of meat over a bed of rice, a side salad, and a macaroni salad. All parts of this meal were deliciousWhat a great value! It only cost like $8.70 or something? The presentation was great, and utensils and hot sauce were included. I'm really impressed by this place. I don't even live around here but I would drive out of my way just to come here.

Great value and good food for a great price at this little walk-up window for take-out only. The macaroni salad is really tasty, but if you want to be healthy they will replace rice with broccoli on request.

Hungry Horse is a Long Beach Icon for excellent teriyaki chicken, among other things. 200% better than that one place on Atlantic headed north Hungry Horse got that real deal! Affordable too, large portions. Fresh. Customer service on point as well.

Greatest little hole in the wall find! When I say everything is yummy, I mean everything! Chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, burgers, shrimp fried rice, egg roll, chicken and beef sticks, wonton soup - although not traditional it is very very good. The service is friendly and quick.

For $5.75 or $6.75 you can get the chicken or combo teriyaki plate. I really enjoyed the chicken plate. Even more so since it was only $5.75! Cash only. Beef and pork were dry and a little grisly/tough. Order at the window and go home. No seating! Small parking area is a plus.

I was excited to try this place but....yea mine was terrible!! So disappointed. I got teriyaki chicken and it was beyond dry. Honestly one of the worst I've ever had. Maybe I just went in an off day but I won't be back.

Teriyaki chicken plate was very flavorful. Chicken, macaroni salad, side salad, French fries all were very tasty. I can't wait to try the burger next time!

The food is pretty good and comes with so much I wasn't even able to finish it. The service has gotten relatively fast as compared to a few months ago. It is also very affordable for what you get. I'd recommend.

Saw it on YELP & decided to give it a try - Hubby wanted Pork & Beef combo plate, but they were out of Pork. So got him the beef and shrimp. He said Shrimp was a bit spicy. The Beef Teriyaki & Macaroni was ok My daughter ordered Shrimp fried rice. She said it was spicy too (possibly shrimp is pre- marinated) So I gave her my order. I ordered the Farm burger - 2 beef patties & 1 teriyaki chicken breast. It was delicious (for the few bites I got in) the chicken breast was cooked well - moist & flavorful. The beef patties were juicy. The fries were good too. I ended up eating the fried rice. It was tasty - low heat, well flavored. It is literally a walk up window to place your order, 2 tables with 4 chairs & a bench. We ended up eating in our car with AC on since it was a bit hot.

The food is tasty and cheap. CASH ONLY. I recommend the teriyaki chicken plate or the cheeseburger combo. I wish they had a better process for notifying customers that their orders are ready. They don't give you a number or a receipt, and they don't take your name. The food takes a long while to come out, and there is nowhere to wait that feels safe or comfortable. If you wait in your car, you don't know whether the order that's coming out is yours or someone else's. I would come more often if the wait wasn't so long.

Everything great, I'm just very particular. Good food, good service, and affordable prices. Great places to take the kids and lunch!!!! That HANGRY horse will be satisfied.

Oh man soo many good choices here from the teriyaki chicken, burgers, cream cheese wontons, shrimp fried rice and more! This place ONLY accept cash so beware! They don't have any type of inside seating, they did have table outside but no more so expect to get everything to go! This place has been around forever and i been going here since i was a kid. Still great food and great prices!

Delicious local teriyaki with affordable prices you cant beat anywhere. Local and fresh. It is only a takeout window with no outdoor seating. Cash only as well. Stick with the chicken and beef teriyaki along with the burgers. Its what they arw known for. Very flavorful and fresh made to order. Friendly customer service. The only negative is the shrimp for me. Great flavor but very overcooked and tough. Not worth the price for 4 peices of small shrimp on a stick.

Bombdotcom love their smoothies and the burgers so fresh and delicious. The teriyaki is so good love the sauce pork sticks are good always hits the spot right before a beach ride.

Food is good service can be better called 3 times about 15mins prior to this post to place an order no-one answered assumed the were busy arrived atb7:42pm only for them to be inside cleaning saying they were closed but claim to close at 8pm food os a solid 4 but service and accountability horrific

As tiny the place is, they have a pretty extensive menu covering from skewers, to burgers to teriyaki chicken, to thai iced tea. I think it's run by an Asian family and they were super nice. I got the horse burger, which had 2 burger patties AND a grilled chicken on top, soaked with yummy teriyaki sauce. It was pretty bomb and filling. I will ask for teriyaki sauce on the side inside because it kinda made one of my buns soggy. Their fries are freshly made, and Great texture.

One of the OG triple OGs of Long Beach this place is a hole in the wall with bomb food at cheap prices. Stick to normal stuff here, cheese burgers and teriyaki combos and you can't go wrong. Get some extra sauce on the side too.

This is a keeper! I had lunch here with four of my coworkers. It was the first time for all of us. Please keep in mind the below comments are for my first experience for one meal at this place which was for lunch! I could not help but be reminded of Hawaii because of the diverse menu! I ordered the Fried Egg Sandwich which came with bacon on wheat. Absolutely Yummy. I also ordered the wontons which were pretty darn tastey. ..and topped it all off with an Ice Cold Thai Ice Tea! My coworkers ordered the mixed plate, chicken bowl, beef bowl, and one had a burger. Everyone said the food was pretty good. How many places can you go to in LA/OC and order fried egg sandwhich, wantons, and a thai ice tea while your buddies eat mix plates and burgers? My meal was about 8 bucks including the drink. Right after we ordered (11am), Long Beach's finest (PD) arrived. In fact, the majority of those eating there were from various government agencies. As the clock ticked closer to 1130, the locals started to show up. Everyone was pretty nice even though there is little seating. It is so unusual that people are so willing to talk in LA. This aspect was totally an unexptected surprise. The customers just talked to each other..what a novel idea! Like the name says..It's a drive in. There is one table inside and two tables outside. The place actually got pretty crowded. I met several new people and it was quite fun. How is it that there are all these yummy places to eat that I would normally not look twice at? This place is a hidden gem. It is conveniently located a block east of the 710 on Willow. It is a very small but terrific place. Even though I didn't see any hawaiians working there, this was typical of the food we use to eat in Hawaii. My coworker made a comment that "the only thing missing is the spam!". I will try the mixed plates on my next visit. You can get a beef plate for 4.50. I am giving this place four stars based on the variety of food, taste, value, convenience, and the diversity of the people and food. Definitely do not come here if you are the type that is looking for fancy dining. This is just good food from a little place hidden on Willow Street in Long Beach. I also want to give Yelpers a "kudos to you!" A friend told me about this place. I didn't quite believe her so I checked yelp. Sure enough..only good things were said. Kudos to you Yelpers! In return I am putting my two cents in. Aloha. P.S. The bathroom is inside. It is small but you can wash your hands in a decent manner.

Came here last night. Ordered the number 16 and let me tell you it was disgusting. All the meat sticks were as tough as shoe leather. Beef was tough. Chicken tough and the shrimp was like rubber. The sauce was weak as well. So much hype for this place. Left Disappointed and still hungry.

Truly a hidden gem! Affordable good food and you can't go wrong with that! I got the Chicken Stick plate, the only complain I have is that the salad portion was lacking! There was barely any salad compared to the macaroni portion. Also the staff seemed nice! Will definitely be a returning customer.

Oops. Almost ate here but left immediately so forgive my rating as it does not include me actually purchasing and eating from here. Was in search of Japanese/Hawaiian local style plates for dinner with my family last Friday night. The neighborhood is sketchy, not totally this business's fault. CASH ONLY. Not convenient. And no indoor dining that I could see. Just a walk up window. Not even a real outdoor area to sit, which we certainly would not have, anyway. Bummer. Curiosity may bring me back, but unlikely.

Being born and raised in Long Beach, the Hungry Horse Drive In is a place you've just known about forever, and often a place overlooked. I've been coming here for 20 years, and nothing has changed much with them. I have not tried everything, I always plan to try other things, but always seem to end up with the beef teriyaki plate. It's always good and always a decent amount of food. There's so many Teriyaki bowl places opening and closing around town, but The Hungry Horse is a mainstay. The service is always pleasant, the wait is short, and the food is always good. If you're in the area, don't pass them up this time, give them a try, you may be pleasantly surprised!

Checked out this place thanks to Yelp. I got the egg and bacon sandwich combo; called in my order for pick up. It came to $5.79; which was the sandwich, good amount of fries and a can soda. Pretty decent overall, I will definitely come back and try one of the teriyaki meals!

This place is my go to when I want great food on a budget. Never disappointed! Try it, you will become a regular.
