Hunnybee Bruncheonette Review - Strathcona - Vancouver - The Infatuation

"Sometimes Vancouver feels like that part of Jumanji where they all try and climb onto a chandelier to escape the monsoon. So when you do get the rare sunny morning, you’ll want to take advantage of it with brunch on a patio with a high UV index or somewhere with enough natural light that you’ll need to wear sunglasses inside. Hunnybee in Strathcona, with its floor-to-ceiling windows and sidewalk seating, is where you want to go. Order their ricotta pancakes with lemon curd and a cava mimosa while you take mental notes on their plant-to-shelf ratio for your apartment. The same people run The Birds and The Beets, a non-pancake version of Hunnybee in Gastown, which is another place you’ll want to sit all day and make your living space look as similar to as possible." - Shelley Mason

My girlfriend and I went to this restaurant today and were not disappointed! We got the breakfast sandwich with avocado and ham. It was fantastic! The bread was perfectly toasted & I loved that they used sourdough. The toppings were very fresh & the egg was also cooked perfectly, which was a treat. Definitely one of the best breakfast sandwiches in the city. 5 stars!

Super tasty. I loved that place. Breakfast sandwich is super delicious. For pancake it was too much sweet also they said we should wait more than 30 minutes. They should expect thay crowd and prepare for that but it was worth to wait. I just didn't like the coffee too much. It was strong for me. But overall I loved the taste and atmosphere. I will come back to try more items.

I ordered the breakfast sandwich with avocado. The bread was perfectly toasted and the spread they used on the sandwich was delicious. I highly recommend this place! The only thing that was disappointing was the small glass of “fresh orange juice” that was $4. It didn’t taste like fresh OJ and was definitely not worth $4. Otherwise everything else was great.

Such a neighbourhood gem and the food is always on point! Laid back vibes and a nice sidewalk patio. You order at the counter and take a number to your table. Expect a wait on the weekend. This is the perfect place to catch up with a friend or have a low-key bite on a lazy day. Have been back a handful of times and it's a go-to for me. One star docked because their circulation/fan situation inside could be improved.

🌼✨ Hunnybee Bruncheonette: A Little Hive of Brunch Joy ✨🌼 My partner and I had the sweetest morning here, and we’re still glowing from the experience. She ordered the Hash Benedict, and I had the Shakshuka—both were incredible, with flavours that felt bright, comforting, and intentional in every bite. We also shared a hibiscus lemonade 🍋 that was the perfect tart-sweet sip, grounding us into the slow, happy hum of the morning. The atmosphere is so chill, warm, and unpretentious—sunlight streaming in, cozy but lively, with a gentle buzz of people genuinely enjoying their brunch moments. What made it even better? The people working here are genuinely kind, friendly, and attentive without ever being overbearing, adding to that feeling of being welcome exactly as you are. Hunnybee Bruncheonette feels like the kind of place you want to bring a journal to, or a friend you haven’t seen in a while, or simply yourself, just to soak in a morning that feels slower and more delicious than most. 💛 Highly recommend if you want your brunch to feel like a quiet celebration of the day. We will definitely be back, this is the truth! 🐝 With all of my Mettā for you all, Noah

I usually grab breakfast and coffee at another organic café nearby, but I’ve always been curious about this place — every time I pass by, it’s packed with people! Today, I finally decided to check it out around 12:00 noon. The breakfast rush had died down a little. The café itself has an old-school, slightly worn interior — basic furniture and vintage flooring and walls — but that somehow adds to its charm. There are also two rows of outdoor seating, and in the summer, sitting outside is absolutely lovely. I ordered the sourdough toast with egg, avocado, and pickled onions, along with a cortado. I took a good look at the menu, and honestly, the prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality. The staff handed me a number and brought the food and coffee shortly after. The egg was perfectly cooked, and the tangy pickled red onions paired beautifully with the soft, chewy sourdough toast — it really whets your appetite. What stood out to me the most was the attentive service. The staff were constantly clearing tables and keeping things clean, which is impressive considering how busy the place is. Many popular cafés overlook that. I’ll definitely recommend this place to my friends. If you want the full breakfast selection, I suggest coming a bit earlier — probably before 11:00 AM.

Google
Solid brunch spot! Gets very busy on weekends so would recommend planning in coming earlier. On a similar note, due to its liveliness it is very loud especially inside. Staff was nice and the food was good for the price. Do note that the pancakes take up to thirty mins to arrive.

We were visiting Vegan Supply near lunch time and decided we would visit Hunnybee for lunch. They make their own bread and the bread is cut really nice and thick for most brunch items. I almost ordered the Hash Benedict, except I didn't fancy paying full price for two eggs which will not be on my plate. We both ended up ordering Egg & Avocado Toast except mine was without an egg. It was fine. I usually don't eat vinegar but the pickled onion was not too strong. The vegan gingerbread cookie was good. The sweet ricotta pancakes looked amazing—and—I'm tempted to ask them to make an egg-free option next time, replacing the egg with carbonated water.

Yelp
I went back again! Came for a quick Sunday brunch with a friend after doing aerial yoga (!) in the area. I was opting for something sweet, and we both ended up getting the ricotta pancakes. Thankfully, the cashier at the front was very transparent about how long the pancakes would take, which helped to gauge our interest and wait time. It was pretty busy that day (as always). We were able to grab a table outside on a beautiful sunny day, and enjoyed watching some dogs while waiting ~25 mins for our pancakes. The pancakes were so deliciously fluffy! I liked the berry compote that came with it, and I doused it in maple syrup. I ate the pancakes so fast (because I was in a rush, but) because they were so good! Can't wait to come back a 3rd time to finally try their breakfast sandwich.

Yelp
We loved the ambiance, especially the patio seating on a bright and sunny day. The coffee was not anything to die for, I wish they had more less basic options. We ordered the shakshuka which was great. Lots of flavor and very filling. The savoury pancakes were perfect if you want pancakes but don't want something overly sweet. I loved how thick and juicy the sausages were. The hash browns were crispy and nice. The same sausages came with the hash browns which were also great. We came on a Sunday morning, close to noon. Even though the line was long, we didn't have to wait for too long to get a table. For pastries we had the banana bread and the chocolate chip cookie. They tasted pretty healthy (made of oat or oat flour I think) but we still devoured them.

Yelp
My brother has been raving about the Breakfast Sandwich and was glad to try it for myself. My Mom had the one pictured and I had it without the ham. We both declared the sandwich to be - unique and outstanding. The toast and butter crunch of the bread and the fried egg becoming one with the cheese. Wow! The latte I had was sadly awful. I had to throw it out. Will give it another chance though as hopefully it was a one-off bad drink. The Breakfast Sandwich more than made up for it!

Yelp
Hunnybee is a must-go solely for their breakfast sandwich. While their menu is quite limited, I used to live in Vancouver and somehow, I find myself yearning for this sandwich in particular constantly! The bread is perfectly toasted and overall delicious, and the housemade hot sauce is chef's kiss. You can ask for hot sauce on the sandwich, but definitely ask for it on the side as well.. You won't regret it. SO good.

Yelp
Ambiance: 3/5 Food: 4/5 Service: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 I had high hopes for this place since everyone recommended it as a hidden gem tucked away in Chinatown so was excited to try it with my friend that was visiting from out of town. We got there just before 11 on a Saturday and it was packed (as expected) The way this spot works if you want to dine in is that you have to order first and get a number, then you're on your own to find an available spot. I'm not a huge fan of this model because there's a chance that you don't find a spot by the time your food comes out which is a mess of a situation. Luckily we managed to snag the last 2 seats which were outside on a metal bar-style table - the metal reflected the sun in our eyes which wasn't great but it was still better than having a table inside because there was no AC or airflow there. I would definitely recommend coming here where it's not super hot outside since the inside is pretty cute! As for service, this was a huge hit for us. The staff taking our order was really nice and our drinks were brought out really quickly. Unfortunately it took over 45min to get our mains - after around 30min I noticed people around us (who had ordered after us) getting their food so I checked in with the staff at the front who said that they were just busy and that our food would be out really soon. 15 more min went by (and more people around us who had ordered after us) before we got our food so overall not super impressed with the service. As for food, I got the sweet ricotta pancakes and my friend got the hash bowl. My pancakes came out cold but were a great texture, although I wasn't a fan of the compote on top so I brushed that to the side. My friend really enjoyed her meal so maybe savoury is the way to go! I also should mention that everyone on the menu was very reasonably priced! The pancake dish was $13 and the hash was around $15 I believe which is unheard of for Vancouver brunch prices Overall, while I love the interior and the prices are great, the service and find-your-own-seating style makes me a bit iffy on wanting to go back

Yelp
Cute little spot. Good brunch/coffee. On a rainy day, even their outdoor seats were covered. Very affordable. Service a bit inconsistent. THE SERVICE Our friend arrived and was told tables were first-come first-served. So he hovered over a table that was leaving and was about to sit down, when staff told him he should be on the waitlist. He had talked to staff earlier and was not told of any waitlist. It worked out because another staff member confirmed he'd gotten there first. Our friend also ordered savory pancakes (2 of us heard him order this). They brought him sweet pancakes. He was super nice and mentioned he got the wrong thing, but said it was fine. At first the staff said you ordered sweet. But after a few minutes the staff still brought out savory pancakes to replace them anyway. THE FOOD *Latte ($4) - 4 stars Nice creamy foam. Tasty. * Egg & Avocado Toast ($8) - 4 stars Avocado ripe, toast crisped just right, dill was a nice touch. Not extra unique but good. * Hash Benedict ($15) - 3.5 stars Fine, not too special, but did the job.

Yelp
A sunny day in Vancity after a cold rain the night before Brings us for a brunch craving. After a pictorial at Stanley park, we wanted to go to a good brunch place. We found a place and tried their food. It was okay. It's not worth listing. The Taste was ok. Nothing special. Cappucino wasn't too bad.

Yelp
Hunnybee is a hidden gem! I come here often with my coworkers as we work a few mins away (and i'm always trying to convince them to come here again and again). The staff is wonderful here! Very friendly and sweet. The ambiance is cute, they've got two little patios to enjoy + some indoor seating. What i like about this place is they keep the prices a bit lower than others so low income people don't have to worry as much. I am a huge fan of their coffee - have tried the latte and iced coffee, and an even bigger fan of the food! Their ricotta pancakes are on my list as top pancakes in the city. SO good and fluffy and soft, and flavorful. (You can get the savory or sweet). I've only tried the jam version but will try the savory one day. My other fave is the breakfast sandwich. MAN they're good, i don't know what sauce they use but it is something else! Check this place out if you're ever looking for a brunch spot in van that's not downtown or super bougie, you'll be so happy with your choice!

Yelp
This place can be really hit-and-miss. Food quality is usually great, but the chaotic lineups for brunch have led to some orders going to the wrong table and crazy-long waits while flustered staff try and mix and match which order goes to what table. Sitting on the patio today, our server asked me to HAND him the plate left next to me. Um, maybe if I worked here? Or else, go around and pick it up from outside the patio, but asking a customer to handle another customer's used table setting just icks me in that East Van stereotypical lack of initiative sort of way. I ordered a coffee by my companion didn't get his latte, which was on our order. The server asked us to run down just what we ordered, but the number they gave us should tell him that. The server returns and says, "they didn't give us your order for the latte, so this one's on us." But it was already paid for, so just what does, "on us" even mean? He asks us again to recap our food orders, but shouldn't the number assigned to us have our actual order associated somehow? We watched a long lineup out the door turn completely over, and then some, before the food finally arrived. As expected, the quality was really good, but they need to streamline their communication because they obviously have too many gaps for basic ordering info to get lost in before losing some more. Supervisors and management need to put themselves in customers' shoes more and see where these leaks in communication need fixing.

Yelp
Do yourself a favour and get that chocolate chip cookie. You know the ones I mean, they are right by the cash. Get that cookie!!! Best cookie I've had in a very long time :) chewy perfection. The staff is friendly, service is fast and food is absolutely scrumptious. Went back for a round two, and they have the best pancakes I have ever had!!!! We now have a new favourite breakfast spot :P HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Yelp
Oh my Hunnybee! This place is a hidden gem with a friendly crew that has a great vibe. This cute little corner joint has outdoor seating & good views of the neighborhood. My wife and I ordered the Hash Benedict and the savory Ricotta Pancakes. Let me tell you these pancakes might be the best I've ever had! We both highly recommend trying this spot!

Yelp
!!Try it if you want to ruin your day!! Two of us went there and as soon as we walked in the employees treated us unpleasantly. !!We ordered a sandwich and a Hash Benedict and paid $42 !!The amount of money you will pay is truly crazy. They charge $4 for a finger sized orange juice. Bread does not come with your meal and you pay $2.36 for a slice of bread, the photo of which I will leave below. They may tell you there are no crepes left, but they continue to serve crepes to their friends who came after you.

Yelp
I came to Hunnybee to pick up some brunch/lunch and decided on their breakfast sandwich. First thing of note, is that if you add ham and avocado to the sandwich, it is actually $10 and this wasn't listed on the menu board. When we asked the person behind the counter about it, she seemed really irritated that we were asking. As it was on the weekend, there was a bit of a wait but we didn't mind. The food itself was not bad but we did find it a little bit too greasy. Overall, an okay place for a breakfast sandwich

Yelp
I absolutely love Hunnybee's breakfast sandwich, but this visit, I tried their ricotta pancakes after hearing all the rave about them! It was definitely the right choice! The pancakes were so soft and fluffy! It felt like I was eating one of those Japanese souffle pancakes from Gram. I loved the flavor combination of the savory eggs and sausages with the maple syrup as it wasn't too sweet or too salty and I thought it had a nice balance. If you aren't feeling their breakfast sandwich, I totally recommend trying their mouthwatering pancakes! They have either a sweet or savory option where the sweet option comes with their housemade jam and their savory version comes with two eggs and sausages.

Yelp
A casual spot for brunch by day and a pizza parlour by night (have yet to try). It's over-the-counter ordering so if you want to dine in, you have to snatch a table first. Brunch was hearty and packed with fresh veggies, yummier than expected! Next time I'll come back for their ricotta pancakes and pizza. Hash Benedict $15 Love how there's so many fresh seasonal vegetables on the plate like kale and Brussels sprouts! I chose to have mine with half a sausage and half avocado. Filling and delicious! Breakfast Sandwich $8.5 A good recommendation from the worker. Chose to have ham and avocado. Very solid sandwich!

Yelp
Hunnybee Bruncheonette has the best breakfast sandwich in the far reaches of this planet. It took me awhile to knock the Bro-Nut from Rhino from #1, but this win is well deserved. Get it with both, get it with Hot Sauce. The people that work here are A1. There is one girl that always calls me hun and makes the oxytocin flow throughmst my body. Walking in makes you feel like your getting a warm tight hug with all the wood and cool light fixtures. AND THEN there are frozen pineapple mezcal margaritas, frozen aperol and natural wines. Like shut up. 11/10

Yelp
A fantastic little brunch spot. There were three of us and all were happy with our brunch. There were about four tables inside and maybe 6 outside. It was a bright, cheery place. Staff was friendly. We were totally happy with our meals ricotta pancakes, shakshuka and hash benedict. Would recomend and would definitely go back

Yelp
I came to the Hunnybee cafe to meet an old friend for a sandwich and a visit this morning. I was greeted with a very courteous staff and had a coffee while I waited for my friend. I ordered a simple Turkey sandwich which to my surprise was the best turkey sandwich I think I've ever had. I want to thank the Hunnybee for making my morning and giving me such a nice experience. I come from the restaurant and service industry, and it was a pleasure to see a little business with so much to offer doing it so well. Thanks Hunnybee C. W

Yelp
Hunnybee is a pretty busy little brunch place with rather limited seating. There's seating outside, but the tables are on the low side and given the neighbourhood I wouldn't really recommend the counter. Price for portion is good! And that's hard to find these days. It's diner style so you order at the counter and pay first, and the credit card machine prompts you to tip first, which is sort of weird as you end up with really not much service except they bring the stuff to your table. So if that irks you, look around the interface for how to skip it, especially as the first tip option is 15%. Shakshuka ($12) red pepper & tomato stew, two poached eggs, lentils, labneh, toast Tasty, and given the portion and price, it's a win. Spicing might be slightly on the tame side, however. Lacking in some of the more traditional aspects, chief of which is not being in a skillet. This means it can get cold really fast, so dig in right away. Based on the presentation my guess is they scoop it out of a huge vat like soup and add in the separately prepared too-perfectly-beautiful poached eggs. Veggies on top a bit too long to be convenient but not a big deal.

Yelp
Hunnybee Bruncheonette is a relatively new place on Union street in Chinatown. It's been raved about by a few people I know so I wanted to try it out for myself. Union has become the new gentrified street in Chinatown bringing in a wave of new hipsters who are looking to find a new brunch joint. With high ceilings and nice large windows, the cafe is undoubtably a nice place to hang out at. The menu is relatively small but offers a variety of creative brunch offerings. I opted for the special that week, a lamb sandwich and a drink which I thought was good, but somewhat overpriced. Hunnybee accepts credit card via Square card payment where you're reminded to put a tip. Note however, that you pay first here so you actually don't get any service despite being asked to tip. It was barely possible to get a pitcher of water yourself so just a FYI if you think that tipping before gets you anything extra. They don't seem to care. Overall, 3.5 stars. Nice decor, slightly overpriced food but service was mediocre. It's not a bad place, and if it can improve it'll be decent. However, the difference between the stores and shops on Union vs E. Georgia really do represent two different directions the community is being taken in.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to checking out this new brunch addition from the same folks at Birds and the Beets. Unfortunately, things really just fell short for our group. I tried the Miso Farro Grain Bowl (greens, farro, pickled cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, soft boiled egg) for $10. The flavours were good for my taste (very pickly) but it wasn't a good value. The portion was tiny for the $10 price tag. My friends tried the Shakshuka (tomato stew) for $12 and had the same complaint. We ended up going somewhere else afterwards to top up because we didn't leave satisfied.

Yelp
Loved this place! A brightly lit interior of a cafe resemblance, with overarching plantation strung overhead across the room. Seating could be considered sparse but there's outdoor seating as well, and there wasn't ever really a huge line as I guess the hype is dying down. I went on a Saturday at 12:30 & it was fine. We ordered the miso farro bowl, which is a veggie grain bowl with a poached egg, mushrooms, spinach, baked crispy broccoli & pickled radish, with a type of curry, priced at $9. Although it was a bowl, the curry was very particular & made it have a delightful fresh taste to it. It was delicious and unlike any other bowl I have eaten. We also ordered the muesli with jam on it for $6. I am not one to order oatmeal or any sort of thing, as I believe you can make it at home, but the description for the muesli was too enticing for me to decline. There were pear slices on top, a perfect soft pairing. It was as yummy as I had expected, a light, creamy, bowl. We also ordered the avocado toast, a $7 option. It came on a thick sourdough bread with a poached egg & radish on it. The crust of the sourdough bread was hard to cut through, but the bread was toasted nicely. It was delicious as well. The drink that we ordered was a hibiscus lemonade. This one I was disappointed by, as it tasted too sweet & was an artificial pink; it seemed as if I could find this in any bottle in a convenience store and I wish I had not paid $3.50 for it. I tasted more lemonade than hibiscus. The tables are a little small, we had to do some occasional rearranging of plates to make sure everything fit on the table. Other than that, this is a decently priced brunch place; there are a lot of other places that will charge pricier options that aren't as tasty. Even so, I felt as if the menu was unique and innovative and thought it was worth. My meal was about $15 and I was full. Will definitely come back.

Yelp
Miso Farrow Bowl was way too acidic with vinegary taste to the sauce with the addition of extra sour pickles. It was boarder-line inedible. The poached egg was not really poached but rather boiled with zero runniness of the yolk. I also took off extra stars for what I can only describe as one of the most horrid customer services I have encountered in Vancouver. The counter staff clearly did not care for her job, as she conversed profusely for minutes with her friend who was sitting at the bar next to the counter, while five people stood in line. I was the fourth and the person behind me left after getting sick of waiting. When she did attend the customers she was absolutely indifferent and abrupt. No smiles, no greetings, no personability. I waited total of 20 minutes to finally receive my order to go, but it came in an eat-in bowl instead. When I pointed it out, she said "sorry" in a most emotionless way imaginable by a human being and proceeded to grab the bowl, stormed off to the side, took out a brown, rectangular paper container and just plopped the food right in without a care in the world. Good thing(?) that poached egg was actually hard boiled or it would have broken and the yolk would have pooled on the bottom of the container since the entire bowl was basically upside down in that take-out box. Of course when I oped the container at work it looked like someone just barfed out whole bunch of jumbled random stuff in that box. I remember enjoying this bowl and was treated with great service from their sister cafe, Birds & Beets. I wish they'd take more care in staffing like their original location.

Yelp
The sandwich i ordered made me "go dumb" It was something out of a cartoon dude it was like an inch of meat , inch of cheese, another inch of meat, got me feeling like Tony Soprano definitely felt like i was gonna die in rome after that (no capicola ? how do i italicize salami) I couldn't finish the thing! Its these two crazy halves and then there is a very strong dill sauce or cream or something or other on the thing. I must say it was a daunting sandwich, i dont know what to think about it to this day its been like 3 days since Impact and i've been thinking of what to write Strong mimosa 5/5 I must say it looked like they put one of those like potassium fizzy tablets in there to offset any issues caused by wobby pops. Is my cousin working back there thats his "party trick" I felt kinda weird at the place i can't put my finger on it but i think they were open for like another two hours and i definitely got some we're closing vibes, i would like to go back and give it another go its a good acceptable brunch

Yelp
I was very excited to try this place, but left more upset than anything Understanding that it would be busy, I knew we would have to wait. We lined up at the counter and put our name down. We were told there was about a 45 min wait. That was fine. Being a chef myself, I understand. We waited and 10-15 minutes later a group came in just as we were told we can line up and order. I overheard the group of 4 complain about having to wait in line just to put down a name and they seemed pretty upset with it. We all had to do it. So, I was okay with it. We ordered and got a seat. We found it weird that we had to tip before we got any service, but regardless, that's what we did. The 4 top that complained ended ordering and getting a seat maybe a few minutes after us since the rush was over. Service seemed good and we got our beverages as soon as we sat down. However, I started getting more and more upset the longer we sat because the 4 top got their food before we did. I ordered the ricotta pancake and my girlfriend got the mortadella bun. All 4 of the people from the other table got their food before us. And from experience I know that frying an egg is a lot faster than poaching 6 eggs. I saw them pick up our breakfast bun and put it back on the counter while they served the other table. The bun sat there getting cold. They even got their pancake before I did, knowing very well I ordered before them. The food was good. The pancake was slightly too sweet but that's fine, not something I would take stars off for. I would have loved to like a place like this but I felt insulted and unimportant as a customer. Maybe we will come back and try again in the future, because I would like to try and have a better experience since the food was decent. Note: Service was good but just because we tipped beforehand doesn't mean the good service can stop there.

Yelp
We're visiting from Boston and stumbled on this place while walking from our home base in Strathcona towards Science World. Hubby and I were blown away by our breakfasts (miso farro bowl with tofu subbed for the poached egg for me, lox and labneh toast for him). Even the raisin bran-like muffin ordered for our 4.75 year-old was awesome - crunchy exterior, moist interior. We didn't have any drinks since we had caffeinated at our place. Friendly service and we loved that we could immediately compliment the smiley chef. Hearty portions - we were still full when lunchtime rolled around (but in a good way - our meals were quite healthy). We're contemplating another visit before heading to Vancouver Island.

Yelp
Updated review! Went back to Hunnybee a few months after my first visit and they mostly turned it around since. Woohoo! I had the ricotta pancake with sausage this time and man was it good! Highly recommend if you like a sweet and savoury breakfast. They lost a star this time only for lack of detail as a substantial part my partner's meal was burnt. A little disappointing but she still enjoyed it nonetheless and we're glad that we have a brunch place in the neighbourhood to look forward to visiting again, after the demise of Roost at this same spot, which we sorely missed.

My husband and I split the ricotta pancake and the mushroom breakfast bun. They were both delicious. The onion jam on the sandwich was great. The atmosphere is very chill and laid back. This is a great neighborhood spot for breakfast/brunch!

Yelp
Super cute place for coffee and brunch!!! Got the hibiscus lemonade which was super yummy and refreshing and the avocado toast with fried egg. I took one star away just because I didn't like how the egg was runny but that's my personal preference. Overall this place is great and totally recommend it if you're looking for a cool place for breakfast. They also have a tables outside

Yelp
New spot. Currently birds and the beats pop up. Food is simple and good. Ambience is lovely and cozy. It's an intimate new spot with brunch and cocktail pop up at night. I got vegan bah mi and my bf got ricotta pancakes. I am excited to go back and try more things on the menu. Bahmi needs work still but the pancakes seemed super fluffy. I'm excited to go back for the cocktail nights!

Yelp
Hunnybee has all the fine design and looks to promise a good atmosphere but little else. A couple incidents leave this impression: after going upon hearing recommendations from a trustworthy friend, I went for weekend brunch. Ended up ordering a farro miso bowl- a fairly balanced vegetarian affair. I thought ordering a vanilla vegetarian dish would do wonders for my GI system. Well, I ended up with an acute bout of food poisoning in the afternoon. Stomach sickness unto death, susmariajosef! Somehow I overcame my stomach-churling fears of the place... Don't know why though, because last night I tried just doing the safe thing and keeping a liquid diet there. I intended grabbing one drink with a friend from London. I tried ordering a sauvignon blanc, only to have a white male waiter deny me a drink after offering two pieces of ID (as requested). He requested for only one from my friend and offered my friend a drink. Discriminatory? Probably 10-15 years my junior, the waiter claimed I was wasted, denying me white wine- go figure! I hadn't drunken much that night. I asked him what was up, how I offended his perception of respectability. White fragility on display, the waiter was oblivious to the history of segregation coursing through Strathcona & Chinatown as well as the use of liquor laws to police Asian and indigenous communities in Vancouver. Having so many better options in Chinatown- some ran by people of color- we went elsewhere. Soap basically caters to folks who want a sanitized version of the DTES/Chinatown w/o poor people of color and indigenous peoples... What a waste of time and space going to the cursed corner harbinger of gentrification!

Yelp
new cute little cafe that opened downtown that is spacious and has a lot of personality. I came here to work on my zine and comics while meeting a friend. I had a basic single shot latte that was made to order. Staff were super friendly and chill. I did get there at a time that wasn't peak, therefore, I wasn't rushed, however, I can see how others may have been frustrated at the wait. I had a soft scramble that was okay, nothing outside the box but was on the spot.

Yelp
My friend and I had breakfast here on a weekday and it was lovely, no waiting - arrived at 930am. Both had black tea mistos with almond milk and honey, and the grain bowls with avocado, little slices of roasted squash and egg, lots of greens- fresh ingredients and perfectly filling. Friendly service and sunlit atmosphere. Love the cute merch too. :) Will definitely return.

Yelp
The food was overpriced and the service was lacking. I wanted to like the place because the design of the place was good. There are better places to go to in Chinatown. Wouldn't go again.

Yelp
Food is good and fresh. Have been twice already and have had the breakfast bun (super tasty), the shakshuka (good, but not super memorable) and the farro bowl (would have this again). Overall it's a great place to have breakfast or brunch. My only complaint would be that the portions are pretty small compared to other places that charge just about the same prices. Was still hungry after both times we visited. $12 for a small bowl of shakshuka or (I think it was $13) for the farro bowl is a bit steep. Great decor and vibes, though!
