Norfolk, Virginia’s Top Happy Hours | Eater

"Take a 20-minute drive east to see the beautifully restored Cavalier Hotel, which reopened last year following a $78 million renovation. It once hosted countless luminaries, including John F. Kennedy and F. Scott Fitzgerald, making it the poshest spot in the Hampton Roads area for happy hour. Ladies can sip $1 champagne Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the luxe lobby cocktail lounge, the Raleigh Room. Head to the more casual basement restaurant the Hunt Room for drink specials Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., while on Fridays guests get $3 off whiskey and bourbon." - Vox Creative

Just a unique and awesome restaurant. The atmosphere is great, all dining on one end with the bar on the other. Everything we ate was delicious! Specific call out for the Reuben spring rolls and the gold rush cocktail. You have to do valet parking for the hotel itself to go here and would recommend a reservation as the right way to go. Also, to get to the hunt room, you walk in and take the stairs immediately to the right down and turn right.

The Hunt Room was an overall amazing experience everything was great from the ambiance to the food and drinks. We had a very nice server who made the daily catch sound absolutely mouthwatering. The smoked old fashioned was a crowd favorite even for members of the group who don’t usually like old fashioneds. The food was all spectacular! I had the lobster Mac and cheese and it was definitely the best meal that I had on my trip to Virginia Beach. The peas and tomato’s added a very nice freshness to the rich Mac and cheese and it had a lot of lobster in it, I would definitely recommend. Along with all the other food we ordered like the Naked Quail, Grilled Pork Ribeye, and the Roast Duck.

Moody, manly, yummy restaurant in the gorgeous Cavalier. Skip the apps and go straight for the entrees drinks especially the smoked old fashioned. Our server Angelina was so kind and recommended the risotto and made sure the kitchen got my allergy substitutions correct! Will definitely come back!

The Hunt Room at Cavalier is a charming spot with an amazing atmosphere, perfect for a special occasion. We visited to celebrate our anniversary, and the cozy ambiance, complete with a real fireplace, gave the space a warm and inviting feel. The food and drinks were fantastic, and the setting made it memorable. However, be prepared to arrive much earlier than your reservation time. The valet service took forever, and after a 15-minute delay, they gave our table away. While the staff did eventually find us another table, the host gave us a lecture about being late, which felt unnecessary. Overall, it’s a lovely place with great potential, but the experience could be improved.

Service was great and so was the food. We had the shrimp, crab cake, reuben egg roll appetizers. Along with the fish and chips. The fish was pretty bland, but the tartar sauce made up for it. We also got the pineapple upside down cake and the bourbon balls. The bourbon balls were amazing. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious overall. We started with the shrimp, crab cake, and Reuben egg roll appetizers, which were all flavorful and well-prepared. For our main course, we had the fish and chips. While the fish itself was a bit bland, the tartar sauce was a perfect complement and really brought the dish to life. For dessert, we tried the pineapple upside-down cake and the bourbon balls. The bourbon balls were absolutely amazing – definitely a standout treat! We’ll certainly be back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend!

Smoked lollipop chicken was embarrassingly small portion but tasted good, my venison was delicious and so was the soup of the day (black eye pea). They messed up my wife's filet , she ordered well done and it came out bloody! They fixed it but the meat juice was all over the plate. S'more brownie was good. Service was a little slack. MAINLY it was so loud in the restaurant we couldn't talk to each other.

We always have a lovely time at the Hunt Room! So far we’ve done dinner, lunch, and also drinks - and everything has been delicious. It can be a little pricey, and it’s a bit of a drive for us, but worth the trip if you want to splurge a little (or if you’re just bougie lol). I definitely recommend making reservations in advance, or preparing to sit at the bar. There is valet parking as well.

Google
The Hunt Room is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. It’s not fancy — it’s just dang good. I had some of the best mac and cheese of my life here. At my request, they put the lobster from the mac in a side dish because I don’t like lobster (I grew up in a landlocked state), but my partner does and he wanted to eat it. He said it’s the best lobster he’s had in his entire life. He also says this place has the best old fashioned he’s had in his entire life and I’m inclined to agree. He relays to me that his duck was outstanding. Miranda was our server and she is a DELIGHT. We were very well taken care of the entire night and she didn’t even blink at my weird “hey can we get the lobster in a side dish” request. We’ll ask to be seated with her when we come back. You can bet your boots that we’ll be back. You should go eat here if you haven’t before, I promise.

Yelp
Came in to explore from out of town. We wound up at this bar and loved the vibe. The decor was unique. The bar was dark, which I loved. Good prices on drinks and a great acoustic band playing some of the best 90's and 00's music! Can't wait to come back during my next visit!

Yelp
My husband and I have dined at The Hunt Room many times over the years. We recently visited on a Friday night with a reservation--definitely a must, as this place is incredibly popular for its delicious food, fun atmosphere, and charming location. We were seated right away and started with the Oysters Rockefeller, followed by the Classic Reuben, Lobster Mac & Cheese, and a S'mores Brownie to finish. Our server was attentive, professional, and helpful, especially when it came to choosing from the menu. The pacing of our meal was perfect--each course arrived with enough time to enjoy without feeling rushed or forgotten. The Oysters Rockefeller were outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and absolutely mouthwatering. We could have easily ordered dozens more. The Reuben and Mac & Cheese arrived hot, well-plated, and generously portioned. My husband loved his Reuben--classic, filling, and full of flavor. I really enjoyed my Lobster Mac & Cheese, though I probably wouldn't order it again just for myself. It was rich and decadent, as expected, but a bit too heavy for one person. It's a great dish to share! For dessert, the S'mores Brownie was served warm with freshly scooped ice cream. While the s'mores flavors were there, it sometimes just felt like a brownie with ice cream and separate bites of marshmallow rather than a cohesive dessert. Still enjoyable, just not quite what we expected. The ambiance is fun and unique, though it can get a bit loud and crowded at times. We've always enjoyed the aesthetic and overall vibe. Overall, The Hunt Room remains a favorite. We definitely recommend it and will be back!

Yelp
I love the ambiance in this place! Dark and warm, sometimes a little too dark. Service was good, though food took a while. I was really bummed about receiving a pretty bad portion of fries, it was obvious that it was the cut up leftover fries on the bottom of the fryer... (see photo!) but, other than that, the rest of the food were tasty!

Yelp
Great setting a real hunt club feel! The decorations were awesome. Ordered a pork chop with a bourbon glaze. Had a bourbon old fashion and a mezcal old fashion both well done! Our server was Miranda who was wonderful. She gave great recommendations and helpful for sure. I would eat here again.

Yelp
Very good food and amazing service! The drinks were made very well! The chicken lollipops were top tier and the poutine was excellent! The risotto and Salmon - I could not get enough!! The Fish and chips was good. Will definitely return!

Yelp
Phenomenal night out to celebrate our anniversary!! Yaseen was an amazing waiter, who went out of his way to make it a special occasion for us!! Compliments to the Chef!! Food was exceptional!!

Yelp
The ambiance is nice. A cozy tavern with a hunting lodge vibe. Lots of taxidermy on the walls, and a huge fireplace is in the middle with couches for enjoying conversation and drinks. The dinner area is beside that. We were seated against the far wall. I don't wear glasses, but I had to use my phone flashlight to see the menu. The rest of the dining area was not as dark. I've been in there several times and never noticed how dark it was in our section. It was full, so moving to another table was not an option. Our server, Casey, was wonderful; she took the drink and dinner orders, offered recommendations, all with a smile. We ordered the pork ribeye, basted in bourbon glaze ($31.00) as recommended, and it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Served with a generous amount of roasted potatoes and their Brussels. Some of the best. We also ordered the two crab cake dinner. It was also just as wonderful. We are picky when it comes to crab cakes. These are very good with minimal filler, a lot of crab meat. I wondered about the pricing. The one crabcake dinner was $23.00, and a second crab cake was an additional $16.00? Wow. The food was all delicious and I would come back again. We are local and often come during the winter and sit at the bar. The bar menu is great too, and so are the whiskey cocktails. Don't leave without trying the Smoked Old Fashioned. There is a distillery on the premises, and you can see the large vats through the glass window in the restaurant. We enjoy coming here, along with the overall Cavalier experience. The recently restored Cavalier Hotel is amazing and a destination in itself, 4 1/2 stars only because of the poor lighting. 5 stars all of the other times we've been.

Yelp
I came here for HH before dinner at the Becca. It's downstairs near the gift shop. It's very dark inside with a fireplace, leather couches and animals on the walls. Very manly. I saw lots of business men in suits.....I can totally see deals being made here. :) Highly recommend making a reservation. We sat at the bar and the bartender took very good care of us. I think his name was Dylan. We ordered the spinach dip. There was a lot and it was served with pita bread. It was very creamy but needed more flavor. And the dip to chip ratio was way off. They need to give you less dip or more pitas. I was also surprised because the HH menu was the same as last time I was here. I think it's important to change up the menu with new items. Maybe some steak bites or tuna bites. They also had a pretzel with cheese and candied bacon and a flatbread. All $7. Still a great experience and a must try while you are visiting Virginia Beach or you are a local.

Yelp
I had seen raving reviews about the hunt room but unfortunately it was an underwhelming experience. From the service to the food , nothing was special or great. My group ordered the smoked chicken lollipops & they were dry couldn't really get the flavor . Also had the Brussel sprouts , they were bitter not good and lastly had the roast duck and it was not good, it was hard and tasted gamey. The service was slow and we didn't feel welcomed. I would not recommend this place .

Yelp
Stopped to try the Tarnished Truth Bourbon. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to seat us right away. Restaurant was very stylish and clean. We ordered oyster rock and Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts were great! The oysters were really cheesy. I wasn't a fan but I wasn't expecting it to be that cheesy. He ordered a flight and the favorite was the Bottle In Bond! We will definitely be back and we will have to try the dinner.

Yelp
Great for atmosphere, tasty food, hard to access. Mark down for no easy parking without paying for valet. Another for being hard to find - not obvious from the web site that they are in the basement of The Cavalier and no prominent signage to lead you from the entrance to the delightfully moody corner of the property. Definitely plus up for awesome service - thanks for dealing with our large party, Angelina!

Yelp
Substandard food, horrible experience, ruined birthday celebration. I'll keep posting until it's made right

Yelp
We decided to have a business dinner here while in the complex for a conference. Service was excellent, very attentive and friendly! They venue is nice, it's got a cellar/basement style, which is fitting considering the location of it. Menu is typical pub fare and the kitchen's execution of the menu was great. They have a nice wine list, as well as cocktails. Overall, we enjoyed the visit and I can see setting up a dinner meeting again in the future.

Yelp
Let me tell ya something! This place...girl, ma'am, sir, boy, yo...incredible! In Virginia Beach (of all places!) Husband and I live in NY, and staying at The Cavalier is an annual trip for us, and the Hunt Room was a delightful highlight both times. It is home to my husband's favorite burger EVER, and this man has travelled, okaaay?? And our last trip there, we discovered the best brussels sprouts EVER. Husband HATES mayo, but that man back in the kitchen (whoever he or they were) got my husband to LOVE the hazelnut mayo. This place never disappoints, and again...in Virginia Beach? Ya!!! Go, run, hike, bike, trek up there. The Hunt Room (don't love the decor, though) is where it's at.

Yelp
Make reservations! We ate here two nights in a row over Christmas weekend since we were staying at The Cavalier. The first night we did big entrees and dessert and the second night we were each full from just appetizers. First night Husband had to try the smoked Old Fashioned that the Tarnished Truth folks had told us about. It was really good, but he's had slightly better elsewhere. I had the Lobster Mac & Cheese and he had the Pork Ribeye. The Pork was outstanding! The Lobster dish was good, the tomatoes in it made it a bit runny. I was definitely coveting his pork after tasting it. We shared a dessert special of Struffoli with ice cream. Neither of us were jumping up and down over it. They had a strange texture, were not sweet at all, and just not much flavor. The next night Husband got the Reuben Egg Rolls which were delicious, but a bit greasy. He loved them. I got the Chicken Lollipops which were no big thrill. They didn't taste totally fresh. Certainly edible, but I wished I had ordered differently. Dessert this time was killer though...a smore's brownie. Service both nights was very good. Ambiance is nice. They had the fireplace going that Nixon supposedly burned the missing tapes in, in a drunken rage.

Yelp
Such a unique place to visit. Inside the Cavalier hotel, you make your way through the neighborhood to a lovely layout to enter the hotel. It feels grand and welcoming but also, a feeling you are about to spend a few dollars! You go through the main entrance spiraling down some stairs towards the Hunt Room. I will say the feeling was a bit eerie but at the same time, very cool and exciting to see what is next. Once inside, you'll immediately notice the impressive, wood-burning fireplace, accompanied by comfortable couches where you can unwind or wait for your table. The right side of the restaurant provides a perfect ambiance for enjoying your meal, while the left side, which houses the bar, offers a slightly more vibrant atmosphere. The overall design features dark wood and a masculine aesthetic, complemented by the smokey aroma of cocktails being crafted by the mixologists. This setting, is ideal for a romantic evening or a casual night out, tailored to your preferences. We usually order a few drinks and some appetizers, so I can't offer a firsthand account of the main courses. However, based on appearances, everything I've seen looks delicious, and I can confidently endorse the appetizers, especially the Brussels sprouts, which I found truly to be "the bomb"! One thing I didn't like was the Valet experience. Although I get it, it felt a bit forced and almost irritating to get your car. It felt if you didn't give them what they wanted, you would have to go to battle getting your own car. I let that slide and I guess par to a place of this nature but be aware of that. Don't lose your ticket, have cash or make sure that is accounted for otherwise, you may be outside having words flying back and forth lol. Just a tiny thing but this is a vibe for sure worth experiencing especially for socializing, meeting people, dating, romantic, casual... it covers it all.

Yelp
Food was great, but it wasn't anything special. Same as you would get at any decent restaurant. You are pretty much paying for the atmosphere of the historic cavalier. Our waitress was wonderful. Check in the block.

Yelp
As soon as you walk into this restaurant you're taken into what feels like someone's home that's dimly lit, with a leather couch in the middle, a fireplace inside a mantle, with animals that they hunted as decorations. It's a smaller restaurant, but definitely cozy. We did not make reservations and when we went in to ask to be seated, they told us that half of the restaurant is first come first serve and you see yourself and the other half is reservation only. We spotted a cute little table just for two people that had a glass window facing the tarnished truth distillery, and snagged it up! Earle was our server and he went above and beyond service wise! He was friendly, quick, and kind. Definitely got lucky with him as our server!!! The menu was pretty small which I tend to like smaller menus because I feel like the food is better quality. Husband and I ordered the fish and chips entree for our appetizer to share, and when it arrived it came split into two orders and we didn't even ask! So each of us got one piece of fish and some french fries in our own little basket! How thoughtful and appreciated! The entree comes with two batter fried fish, fries, a tiny coleslaw, tartar sauce, ketchup and a lemon wedge! Everything tasted delicious. I was a bit sad that the fried fish were kinda small from what I typically see from other places. Definitely glad that I ordered it as an appetizer and not an entrée because two small pieces of fried fish would not have filled me up as a main meal. For the main meal, the husband ordered the Cavalier burger, and I ordered the Reuben sandwich. I love me a good Reuben, especially with extra sauerkraut!!! This Ruben did not disappoint. It was perfectly toasted, creamy from the cheese and the sauce, meaty and rich. I would definitely order it again! The Cavalier burger is a fat half pound burger that was cooked perfectly to medium well, covered with cheese, grilled onions, beautiful, and barbecue sauce. The fries that came with the orders were crunchy and perfectly seasoned. They tasted like they were made in house. Overall, I would definitely like to come back and try other things on the menu!!!

Yelp
The ambiance is fantastic. The service is not that great. When sitting at the bar the bartender seemed to want to talk with his friends instead of the patrons. There are limited options when staying at the hotel so went back to order dinner to go. Ordered the grilled pork and fish and chips. Both were extremely salty and left us needing water. The next time ordered grilled shrimp and carrots. Awful is the best way to describe it. The shrimp was chard and rubbery and the carrots to sweet. Both dinners were to go and the service away slowly and unfriendly.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I made reservations for Valentine's Day. We were seated promptly in a booth that we had requested. Great start to things! The server was not very attentive. Water was empty several times. We waved down other staff members to assist. It was a quiet space, dark and romantic. Food was incredibly salty. I was unfortunately not impressed. My salad had so much dressing, I couldn't even finish it. I truly wanted to love this place, but I was not thrilled. We asked the server about some beverages, and he was very short with us. I could tell he was friends with the table across from us because he was standing chatting with them the majority of the time. They were served quickly and were done and gone well before us. Overall, we will not return. There are so many fantastic restaurants that really go above and beyond when you spend this much money. We will go there.

Yelp
The Hunt Room is our favorite spot for dinner while visiting VB! And the hotel for sure! Everything is such a vibe in here! The food and service is always on top! Highly recommend

Yelp
We were so looking forward to this dinner and I'm happy to say it did not disappoint. Definitely have reservations as this place is busy! We arrived early (purposefully) so we could have a drink at the bar. We really enjoyed our interactions with the bartender and watching them make lots of smoked old fashioneds as well as other cocktails. I had an Aperol Spritz and my husband had a smoked old fashioned which he loved. The ambiance is very cool. Like an old English pub with lots of water fowl taxidermy. The fireplace is massive and beautiful when roaring in the middle of the room. It was well tended throughout the evening and definitely a feature piece. After our drink, we moved to our table and we were immediately impressed with our server. He was friendly, quick and attentive. We ordered our drinks and food and relaxed a bit. My husband had the venison which he said was cooked perfectly. I opted for the fantail shrimp appetizer since I knew the main plate would be too much food for me. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts which were like eating candy. Oh my! It was our anniversary and the waiter informed us we could pick a complimentary dessert. It was a hard choice but we picked the s'mores brownie and it was a perfect end to a fabulous meal. I would definitely return.

Yelp
Ambience was wonderful, drinks were great and the staff were very friendly. My gf & I loved the raccoons playing cards

Yelp
Great experience service and food! Went for my birthday and everything was absolutely delicious their Brussels sprouts were good and their burger is amazing, the filet mignon was cooked perfect. Didn't save room for dessert but I liked the dim ambiance and decor. Will be back!!

Yelp
Came for hubby's birthday and we didn't have a Rez but they somehow fit us in, it was great. Kudos to the hosts for making it happen. The place (all of cavalier) was so packed, you would have thought they were giving food out for free. Valet stopped taking car cuz there were too many people...bananas. We started with daiquiri and smoky old fashioned and the lollipop chicken as an app. I love the daiquiri it's made perfectly. For dinner we both had the venison rare and we hardly ever order the same dish but the venison is delicious. Had the complimentary dessert for his birthday. The cheesecake was delicious!

Yelp
What a great cozy restaurant with fantastic vibe of a "hunt" room. Delicious food and excellent service. A special shout out to Angelina who was a 5 star server.

Yelp
Overpriced and barely suited for dog food. Worst experience. Ruined my 60th birthday dinner. Waiter only cared about large party.

Yelp
Pro-Tip: Schedule the 3pm tour at Tarnished Truth then go to The Hunt Room right after for Happy Hour followed by dinner! Dining at The Hunt Room is a one of a kind experience you're sure to remember long after the meal is over. The decor is so unique and full of history. The fireplace is gorgeous and the stuffed animals above the mantle are so funny arranged to be playing games. They open at 4, but dinner doesn't start until 5, so we started with happy hour appetizers and drinks. The "chicken lollipops" are just the drumstick part of chicken wings with the meat at the top removed to create a lollipop handle. They were delicious though, and we loved the BBQ sauce on them; however they were a bit expensive for wings with some meat removed. When dinner began, we ordered some entrees off the main menu. All of the food was excellent, but the standout item of the evening was the Brussels sprouts - and this coming from someone who doesn't like veggies much! Wow! Definitely get them with your meal or as an appetizer. I was blown away with the flavor. They have a great drink menu and dessert menu as well. I highly recommend the cheesecake. The crust is made with spent grain from the distillery in the hotel, and it's bursting with apple flavor and creamy goodness.

Yelp
The atmosphere is the real selling point. Super classy and comfortable. Cocktails were very creative and the bar ran very smoothly. First time having Tarnished Truth whiskey and enjoyed it with each variation. Service was spot on. Well done.

Yelp
Went here for my birthday! Service, food and drinks were excellent! Waiter was nice.

Yelp
The Hunt Room is one of my most favorite places to go! Every single time, I get the best service from the folks at the bar. They make excellent drinks, food is delicious and service has always been outstanding. I usually go during happy hour and on Thursdays, Ladies night in the Raleigh Room. My favorite is their chicken flatbread which is no longer on the happy hour menu. My least fav is the Maple Bacon. It was floppy and lacked flavor. I've also tried the chicken lollipops which were ok. Loved the presentation but flavor & texture could have used a little more of something. I'm not an arugula fan but enjoyed the pear, blue cheese & arugula flat bread. Can't go wrong with the spinach dip. Anything w/ their pita/flatbread is a winner IMO. What really stands out for me are the specialty cocktails. The bartenders know their craft and have their cocktails down to a science. I have consistently enjoyed fun new cocktails in The Hunt Room and I owe it to the bar staff & products. Overall a really nice place to enjoy a delicious cocktail w/ friends and stroll up to Raleigh Room for more festivities, food, and drinks.

Yelp
Fantastic meal with a really cool atmosphere. Being located within The Cavalier, we had high hopes. The ambience is cool, very dark and speakeasy-ish. We were sat immediately, which was a pleasant surprise. We had a few cocktails upstairs at the bar, so just had water at The Hunt Room, but their cocktail list looked great and we will definitely order some next time around. Service was pleasant and fast throughout our experience. Food-wise, the Virginia Fried Oysters were delicious and so unique. Mixed within the oysters were fried cheese curds which were also awesome and weirdly a great combo. The sauce was delicious. I would definitely order that again. For my entree, I got the burger, which was one of the best burgers I have EVER had. Super tender, cooked perfectly, creamy pimento cheese, TO DIE FOR! My friend got the risotto, which was also delicious but a bit on the salty side. Overall, great meal!

Yelp
So we were in Virginia Beach celebrating our 20th anniversary and I made us reservations for The Hunt Room inside the Cavalier Hotel. The environment is like hunting club with birds if you get past it you will enjoy it. Megan Sitko made our anniversary so special. She seated us at a special table. It started with complimentary champagne. Egg rolls as appetizers delicious. I had the duck and hubby had the pork ribeye. We enjoyed dinner but it is very loud inside the restaurant.

Yelp
My 2nd experience with The Hunt Room and first dining in the restaurant came this past weekend for an early Mom's Day celebration. We decided to avoid all mother's day chaos and book on a Saturday. Before you even arrive for any experience at the Cavalier, I highly recommend making sure you have cash to tip the valet. We arrived about half an hour before our scheduled reservation and decided to get a drink in the Raleigh Room. It happened to be Derby Day, so the place was packed with hats and bowties. I will relay my experience here in a separate review. I was alerted via text that our table was ready so we took our drinks downstairs. We were advised by the host that "they have a separate liquor license and we could not bring our drinks into the restaurant." So we quickly finished and were shown to our table. This, and the location of our table just outside the kitchen doors and by the hallway to the restrooms, is one of the only criticisms I can offer. Our server greeted us immediately, was pleasant and kind through our visit, but she didn't seem well-versed in any of the bourbons for the flight. My husband had ordered the Old Cavalier Single Barrel Sherry Finish, which they did not have, and she didn't have any similar recommendations or really any knowledge of the bourbon menu beyond "that's a good one, that's a good one, that's a good one." If you know bourbon, you know tastes vary GREATLY between varieties. They do not have a wide selection of beers, and what they do have is overpriced (yet still cheaper than the Raleigh Room where 2 beers cost $25). The place was busy and boisterous as everyone awaited the upcoming Derby race, which was entertaining. I really like the atmosphere here for a casual, yet upscale, meal. To the food - we tried the weekend Bruschetta special, which had feta instead of mozzarella. It was perfectly light and flavorful! I really enjoyed my crab cake entree and hubby really liked his quail, which was seasoned nicely and had a perfect amount of sauce. Previously, we have taken part in a bourbon tasting with dinner for a birthday party and we had enjoyed the charcuterie board, honey stung brussels sprouts and Hunt Room Burger, along with a veggie fried rice that wasn't available on this outing. Overall, the food and atmosphere are wonderful, but I do find it to be slightly overpriced. It was nice for a rare, special occasion.

Yelp
My Husband and I have dined at the Hunt Room multiple times and have had a good experience on every occasion. It's our favorite fine dining spot in Virginia Beach. The food and the service is consistently excellent and accommodating. They do have live music on the weekends late at night, so if you're looking for more of an intimate, romantic experience, try to reserve before 9. They also have a cozy fireplace they light in the colder months. We look forward to their different food specials every weekend and their prices are reasonable. Overall, if you're interested in a date night spot with amazing food, look no further!

Yelp
This restaurant is locate in a swanky hotel off of the boardwalk, tucked away in a nice residential area. They have valet parking and there is also limited free 4-hour street parking down the street from the hotel. I was able to snag one of the free 4-hour spots. It was about a 4 minute walk to the restaurant. You can get to the restaurant 2 ways through the front. You can walk up to the front door and take the elevator or staircase down to it or you can walk to the right of the main entrance and go down a set of stairs and take the door on your right and you are there. It is a somewhat upscale restaurant, but you can dress casually. They have a decent sized dining area, a couple of couches that you can drink on, and bar seating. The bar is kind of small, but is a full service bar. There are a couple of televisions going above the bar. If you want to eat at a table I highly recommend that you make a reservation. The restaurant is dimly lit and is decorated with taxidermied animals. The staff there is very nice and courteous. They were pretty busy when I was there and had things running like a well oiled machine. The place has a lounge type of vide I ended up sitting at the bar, mainly because I did not want to take a table up for just me and plus I did not have a reservation. They have an exotic drink menu full of beer, wine, and signature cocktails. I got a Mai Tai and it was a picturesque as it was delicious. One of the best that I have had. I ordered the Hunt Room Burger. It took about 10 minutes for them to prepare my food, and this was during a very busy time. My burger was life-altering. It was so delicious and flavorful. The fries were very good too, Better than your average fries. My meal was filling and as I type this review, I am still think about it. It is no secret that this place is a little pricier than your average joint, but it is worth it and sometimes you just have to treat yourself. I recommend checking this place out when you have the opportunity. It will definitely not disappoint.

Yelp
Overall this is a great place for getting drinks, sharing apps, and hanging out with friends. While the food was good, it wasn't great. If I fee like I need to ask for salt it's not a winner for me. The appetizers were delicious and I thought the meal would be just as good, but unfortunately it fell flat. I had the citrus braised Cornish hen which I didn't get any citrus taste from and my husband had the naked quail. Both were ok, but neither dish was amazing. The dessert Cheesecake, was good as well but not amazing. I would highly recommend this spot if you are looking for a really cool hangout with friends but maybe not so much for a sit down meal.

Yelp
This is our all time favorite place to eat!!! It started last year for our Anniversary. Then this year for my birthday, and our son has chosen it for his 22nd birthday next week. We have had nothing that was not amazing. The first time (September 2023), my boyfriend ordered the Venison, and I ordered the duck. He wanted the fries as an appetizer, and I had been itching for the Brussels Sprouts. He was hesitant but we got both and we were in love. Everything was amazing, down to the cheesecake we shared for dessert. Fast forward to last week. I had been itching for my own Venison ;) so we both ordered that, and my son ordered the burger. Same appetizers, to which my son said "I'll try one but I'm not really into Brussels. By the end we were fighting over the last bites. Our waitstaff is always so amazing, the food is flawless (knock on wood), and the vibe is awesome. We will forever choose Hunt Room for special dinners, and look forward to branching out (however, venison loin is hard to pass up) and trying new options.

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere! We had the poutine as an appetizer, and it was beyond expectations. Just insanely good. I had the swordfish special with a crab cake at the direction of my server, and it was really good. My husband had the bison steak special and was equally impressed. Make reservations in advance, it took us a couple weeks to get in. But well worth the wait for such good food and relaxing, cozy, but classy environment.

Yelp
They have valet parking up front. It was fairly busy here on a Saturday evening. We had a party of 13 people and were in a private room. Maddie [hopefully the correct spelling] was phenomenal in helping with our drinks and orders. We orders the Honey Stung brussel sprouts, Oyster Rockefeller and crispy fried Virginia oysters. Some of our party ordered other things but overall the appetizer were delicious. For dinner, I got to try the Pan Roasted Venison Loin and had a taste of some other dishes including the Citrus Brined Cornish Game Hen, The Naked Quail, Grilled Pork Ribeye and the Roast Duck. All of it was great and I wish I had focused more on eating than chatting to really provide more details. I was surprised with an engagement here and they were so sweet to bring us champagne. I would definitely come back to leave a more detailed review when I'm less distracted!

Yelp
5 stars for ambience and service, 5 stars for the drinks, 3 stars for food. Maybe it's because I'm a west coaster, and that's why I don't appreciate the food. But my pork ribeye was tough! Like way tough. The wedge salad I got was over dressing'd. The dessert bourbon balls tasted like chocolate oatmeal protein balls. Bleh. The service was phenomenal for our large group and the tasting room was lovely for the 15ish of us. I would got back for the atmosphere and maybe try the veg food.

Yelp
If you find yourself in Virginia Beach, go to the Hunt Room at the old cavalier Hotel for happy hour drinks and snacks... you won't be sorry! The hotel itself is a historical site. Really old world atmosphere and stunningly beautiful! There is an onsite whiskey distillery there too. Drinks are very reasonable during happy hours... food is good and service was outstanding!

Yelp
Hunt room for dessert we had already had lunch upstairs in the Becca room so we decided to do dessert down in the hunt what a great choice. Being that we didn't have reservations we had to wait for a seat to come available we ended up getting a seat on the couch which is really nice in front of the fireplace and the fireplace was throwing off a lot of heat it was very very hot sitting on the couch. Service was really good the place was very very busy clearly it's a popular place. I ordered the s'mores brownie dessert and Bourbon balls my friend had the chocolate lava cake and my other friend had the Apple bourbon cream cheesecake. Everyone really liked your desserts everyone enjoyed a bourbon ball it was very very good. This is another place that I will definitely be back to

Yelp
We had great food and a great experience Monday night 6/10/24. We enjoyed a few appetizers. The fried shrimp (at least as good as Steinhilbers!) and chicken wing lollipops were both yummy with great dipping sauces but the star of the show was the Brussel sprouts! So good! I enjoyed my wine and prime rib French dip sandwich and my friends enjoyed their fish and chips. The fries were indeed excellent! I ordered a chocolate lava cake for dessert later to take back to my room. It had a Raspberry sauce that was delicious but it was in the shape of a bundt cake and did not have discernable "lava" but it was still quite good! The service really was impeccable. There is no view from the restaurant so you should for sure enjoy a cocktail upstairs in the Raleigh room or on the lawn out front before going down for dinner. Excellent experience!

Yelp
The best burgers in town! I really like that they always have the regular burger, but they also change up the specialty one. The atmosphere is cozy like an upscale pub! Great service!

Yelp
I like the place, but the food is really overpriced for what it is. You'll enjoy the ambiance, but you'll also be saying in paying??? For a burger?
