I was new to Huntington Beach & had the opportunity to go on my first snorkeling adventure in Catalina Island. I was pressed for time in finding a wetsuits and had ZERO experience or knowledge on where to start. I went into HSS and told them my needs. I met Jordan and the Manager at the desk and they were a great help making me comfortable with wetsuits options and the store itself. Jordan then handed me over to Colby who took the bull by the horns and threw me in every suite he could find till we were out of options. You see, the size I needed was out of stock. He wouldn't give up however, and found my suite at another store. He had it transfer the next day, helped me get into the suite, showed me how it worked, and rang me up for the sale...and just like that I was good to go! Everyone at the store was curious about how I moved to Huntington, what my interests were, and gave me tips and advice on things to do locally and made me feel right at home. And thanks to there quick thinking and customer service...I had an amazing first snorkel at Catalina Island! As I was leaving the store that day, they asked me to come back after my trip and share my photos and experience. The people inside HSS aren't just workers on a sales floor. They are Huntington Beach locals & my go to store & people for surf & fun...and my new friends! Thanks guys! 🤙🤿💯✨

Great store and service! This was the only store we could find that was open at 8am, which was perfect for an early morning wetsuit rental. The price was very reasonable and the process was smooth with friendly and helpful staff.

We had a great experience here renting surf supplies. Their prices were reasonable and they answered all our questions. Staff doesn’t really welcome you when you walk in but they were kind and helpful after requesting help. The surf board and wet suit were great. The changing rooms were clean, big, large mirror, and places to hang stuff.

Great shop with great service and a great board selection At an unbeatable price! On my last trip I was stuck by a stingray. I thought it was gonna ruin the rest of my trip, but Carl and froggy gave me the old surfer remedy. And my foot was completely better HSS definitely saved my trip and I won’t go back anywhere else!

If I could give zero stars I would. Tried to return an item, and the girl behind the register calling herself the store manager said that it is store policy to charge customers the highest price that is on the box. It doesnt matter that the box has a lower price on it and refused to return it. I was charged the Canadian price. Submitted a dispute with my credit card company. Why would I ever go to a store that charges more than they advertise and refuses to correct their mistake?

The clothing is my style of beach vibe and the service is absolutely professional. I went to visit the store this summer when I was on vacation. I was very impressed of the designs of clothing compare to the one from my state In Texas. The DFW area in Texas does not have good beach vib clothing. I am planning to buy my beach clothing, From now on, here.

I have been shopping at Huntington Surf & Sport for years. It's one of my favorite places to visit. They have a great selection of clothes that suits everyone from my grandkids to my husband. The employees are always helpful and friendly. The prices are pretty reasonable, and they frequently have sales. Looking forward to my next visit.

Service was pleasant and the location across from Huntington Beach was excellent. We were on a mission for an inexpensive pair of sunglasses ( ours were left behind) . This was more in line with real surfing clientele. Kudos to them for not laughing at my beached whale body!!

We always stop in here when in the area. They're always having some kind of sidewalk sale going on. You've gotta look through the racks but you can find some good deals. Employees have always been friendly.

Huge shop across the street from Huntington Pier with all sorts of apparel, wetsuits, surf accessories and boards. I visit Huntington Beach often and stop in here from time to time to grab a shirt or some sandals. Huntington Surf and Sport has all sorts of apparel from brands like Hurley, O'Neill, Vans, Quiksilver, Billabong and Volcom. You can also rent a board for the day if you don't have your own. In front of the shop is the Surfer's Hall of Fame and a statue of surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku. The Surfer's Hall of Fame had its first inductees in 1997 and honors legends of the sport with handprints and footprints on the sidewalk. Huntington Surf and Sport will sometimes set up canopies outside to sell marked-down merchandise.

Got my first hardboard. Haydenshapes Hypto Krypto 7 footer. Man when I tell you the people there just know exactly how to help and what information to provide, I mean it.. Karl was just such a freaking good guy to deal with, he had a completely unbiased opinion and went strictly based off of facts. The amount of boards there can be overwhelming especially since I'm newer to surfing but it was nice knowing Karl was there to help. They went above and beyond and did what they can to help fit my budget. Since then I've had so much fun with this board, it's been a good month now and I just can't believe that I waited this long to get into surfing heavy. Guess it takes the right people to find the right board.

I had bought some flip flops from HS&S. Brought them home, and after a few weeks the sole started coming apart. I contacted the store and told them about the problem and they replaced the flip flops lickity split. Thank you for taking care of your customers and making there be no hassle! Appreciate the great service.

Hawaiians buy slippahs like sneakerheads collect sneakers: You need to have the right pair of slippahs for the right occasion. Hawaiian men will typically have at least five pairs of slippahs: Everyday; Beach; Yardwork; After gym/golf and Dressy. I only wear Olukai bc they are high quality, have an arch support for my flat feet, and they support the HLA (Hawai'i Lifeguard Association). In addition, I only buy my slippahs at HSS, bc HSS has all the styles I am looking for, and they always have my hard to find size 13s. I was in the market for dress slippahs, and after researching, the Mea Ola's leather slippahs fit the bill for me. They have canoe lash whipstitching and octopus laser-etched artwork. After a short break in period, these slippahs are super comfortable. HSS also has a lot of other surf gear like shorts, tanks and tees. They always seem to have deals, and if you look hard enuf you can score some gear at a good price. I don't mind paying full price ($80 regular, $130 for leather), for Olukais bc they last a long time, and the co stands behind their products. The staff is always chill and emblematic of the HB beach culture. The next time you are in HB, stop by HSS and score some gear at good prices.

The quality of their merch is cheap and the staff is very rude to people just hanging out standing on the sidewalk near their table. They shoo them away if you're not buying some of their cheap flip-flops. I would never support this business. Where is the zero stars button?

The tag said $19:95, they charged me $26.99. The clerk said they go by their bar code .... Sheesh $7 more. I would not have bought it.

Charged my card 3 days after I purchased clothing without my authorization. I was very upset when I checked the transaction history on my banks mobile app. I enjoyed the customer service but this was totally unacceptable.

Classic surf shop across the street from the pier with coffee shop inside that opens at 6am. All the staff were helpful. HSS has a huge selection of new surfboards, wetsuits and beach stuff. This day I came in for a rental shortboard. Ended up buying my son some flip flops. Board I rented was new 6' Slater 32 L and was one of the nicest rentals I have ever seen for $50 for 24 hours. I ended up bringing back in the morning to get a bit more volume and the staff was real helpful. Wish I had time to look around a bit more as the photos on the walls were incredible.

What can I say about Huntington Surf & Sport that hasn't already been said in the 100+ reviews already posted. The store sits right across the street from the HB pier and is always a destination stop for me to peruse the goods both in store as well as out during one of their epic sidewalk sales. HSS offers goods from a large variety of surf, skate and outdoor culture companies from Vans, Hurley, Volcom, Patagonia, RVCA and many more. The prices are right in line with other retailers but it's their frequent sidewalk sales where you can really save and score some quality goods from shirts, backpacks, shoes, hoodies and so much more. The staff here is also very knowledgeable and willing to help you find whatever it is you are looking for. I have purchased clothing from here numerous times and always see something different and must have for me. The only thing I would look out for is to always double check all goods from the outside racks during the sales as I have purchased shirts and a hoodie on 2 separate occasions that had small pinholes in the shirts and a snagged thread on the hoodie that unfortunately spread down the sleeve the first time I wore it. I believe since these were sale items that they are treated as a final sale item (not 100% positive on this) and thus I didn't drive back to have them returned or see if I could exchange them for another. Anyone who is into surf and skate culture will love this store. They have several locations throughout Huntington Beach but this location is larger and by far the most varied to me and my favorite of the ones I have been to. Check them out next time you are down at the beach looking for clothes, shoes, hydra bottles or even boards and they can hook you up with whatever you are looking for.

Good selection, inexpensive and parking is okay. Weekends are tougher with Surf City tourists, but catch a concert and you'll forget about it.

I just went in yesterday and they have the cutest clothes! I went to try on a swimsuit and while I was doing that my fitting room door was opened not once, but twice by workers. They did not knock either time or ask "is anyone in here?", they just walked right in. The fitting room doors lock from the outside, so there was nothing I could do about them opening it with their keys other than shout "I'm in here!!" and shove it closed again. I've never had such an awful experience in a fitting room, they didn't even apologize for barging in. It's a shame too, their selection of brands and clothes is awesome.

My friend visited this location a while ago. My friend was looking for a blazer. You may not expect this. He can't stop looking at himself in the mirror. He is a well dressed individual without a doubt. He received great service at this place.

Bought my friend a swimsuit she just "knew" would fit because she had the same brand. After paying, she used their fitting room to put it on. Surprise surprise, it didn't fit. We asked the employee nicely if we could get a different size even though the tags were taken off. Thankfully, they let us exchange it. This store does carry a good variety of name brand items with the latest styles. It can get pricey because it's full price most of the time. Sales are rare. As for the rest of the customer service experience, if the store is not busy, then the employees congregate and chat withe each other which is fine. But they often ignore you and you feel like you're inconveniencing them when you have to interrupt their conversations to pay for an item or ask a question. Oddly, customer service is better when the store is busy.

Great people who have patience with beginners. Would recommend for anyone. Clothes and accessories and board rentals. Even soft tops!

Got 3 boards here and was super stoked to find a coffee shop inside. They were open super early so great for our family and they literally have everything you need in one spot for a morning surf and coffee. Most of the staff was really cool and the lattes were pretty good. Hubby likes the drip they had. We came here a lot for the convenience and we're stoked, we would come back. All the employees were super helpful, we were here for like 3 hours our first day and in every department, everyone was solid. Came back every day for our coffee.

Came in and bought a brand new channel island board. Karl helped me out, he had an amazing attitude and was incredibly helpful. I will definitely be coming back here for all related purchases. Thank you Karl!

I Purchased a swimsuit for my daughter and specifically asked if I could return the suit and the sales person told me yes I had 30 days. When I went to return the swimsuit I was told that all suits were final because of health reasons. I told her I was told that I could and she remembered telling me but said she made a mistake and would get her manager. The manager refused to honor the mistake and would not accept the return. The manager told me they were a small business and could not take swim suits back and that the sales receipt at the bottom said all swimsuits sales are final, of course in small print which no one could read. Also the receipt is after you purchase. The customer service is the worst I suggest buying items at a store that can honor their word like Jack's and Ripcurl,

I stopped in today after a long day at the beach and was in need of a change of clothes. Erin was outstanding! She went out of her way to help me. Not only that, I left the store thinking I left my phone in the changing room (it was in my bag). But I rushed back in and the girls including Erin offered for me to use their own phone to help me find it. I'm very impressed with how kind Erin and the other girls were. I will definitely be back! Great job ladies!

Visited HSS during our family vacation to HB and even got to experience the surf hall of Fame induction of Mick Fanning and Bethany Hamilton. The store has the most amazing selection of surf gear around. The service was excellent helping us find some Vans shoes for my daughters. Aaron Pai and family are excellent owners and run and amazing shop. I even got to meet Aaron during the Surf Hall of Fame event right outside the store and he was nice enough to take a picture with me. If you are in the area, HSS will take great of care of you.

Troy is awesome! Helped my son pick out fins and stomp pad for his first board. He took the time to show him how to put everything on. He is super friendly and gave great service! Aloha!

Cool place without a lot of pretense or too much surfer attitude. As an older, very novice surfer I felt welcome here. Plenty of affordable items to be found in addition to the standard high-ticket items you'd expect to see by the beach.

When on the search for the right board, information and understanding is what I go search for prior to my purchase. I was going through a bunch of surf shops looking at boards and talking to people at the shops about what I wanted and they each had an opinion. Once I came in to HSS and started looking at boards, I was approached by Troy and was talking to him about the same thing and seemed to understand me more than other people. We talked about a lot and he pointed me toward the 5'9 Lost RNF Retro. I ended up buying the 5'9 and I could not have been happier. Everyone else was pointing me to bigger boards, not really hearing me say what I really wanted. I just wanted to share the stoke let people know Troy seriously got me on the right board. I have plenty others just so you know I am not just stoked on a new whip.

ZERO STARS IF I COULD!!! So, we are here on vacation and my BF decides to buy me a brand new Nixon watch. I have tiny wrists, so we ask to have some links taken out. BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER!! The kid who worked on my watch completely mistreated it. He didn't lay a cloth down when taking out the links, so imagine a brand new metal watch banging on glass. Painful right?!?? It gets worse. He takes out the last link and oopsies, breaks the spring to lock my watch back into place. He calls the manager over and she can't fix it either. My brand new beautiful watch, BROKEN!!!!! Of course they apologize for it and refund our money, but it sounded so fake and unsympathetic. She offers to make a special order for a new watch or we could go on the Nixon website on our own to get a new one. At this point, my BF was so upset that we just went across the street to Jacks Surf Shop to check if they had it there. Awful experience and untrained employees!!!!

EDIT: They made it right. One of their managers reached out to me and sent a care package with some shirts and some hats. *Old Review* I was on vacation with my family for a few days near Huntington Beach. They had setup a few tents outside their Huntington Beach location with stuff 40% off. My wife and I started browsing through the clothes. I found a few shirts I liked, and so did my wife. When we got to the checkout, before our transaction was completed we started to notice that one of the shirts was stained. As we started looking at it closer we said, "we don't want this one." The cashier said, "Sorry I already rang it up so you can exchange it or get a gift card for the balance." We were kind of scratching our head because the transaction had maybe been processed like 10 seconds earlier. And we had paid in cash so it's not like they would incur a processing fee. But we were in a hurry so we opted for a gift card. We came back to the store 4 days later, on the last day of our trip, to use the gift card. All the 40% off stuff was no longer on display so we found some normal retail prices items to purchase. When I went to go check out I hand them the gift card they issued me less than 4 days previous and they said, "We are sorry, we can't accept that gift card for 5 business days. We've had a lot of fraud and we switched vendors for our gift cards." I pulled out the receipts that showed the returned item and the gift card balance. I had 3 documents showing exactly what happened and the balance of the card. The manager just said, "Sorry there is nothing I can do." I asked if I could use the gift card for their online store and they said, "No these are for in store use only." The gift card was for about $15, I was going to buy significantly more merchandise. But because they would not honor the gift card they just gave me days before, or that they didn't just fix the original transaction on that first day I decided I would not support their business. Long story short, if they have items on sale be sure to inspect them thoroughly before purchase because trying to do any sort of return or gift card situation is basically impossible to work with.

Great store for tons of surfer brand clothing, flip flops and gear! Well I walked into the store mainly to check out their flip flops because surfer brands make the most comfortable high quality flip flop with enough cushioning and arch support. Screw fancy department stores that sell flimsy flip flops that will ruin your feet and your gait! Gotta flip flop like a surfer right!? Well I'm not a surfer, but I love their flip flops. They carry brands like Roxy, Sanuk, Cobian, etc. their prices are pretty reasonable and they have a 30 day return policy with great customer service too. Also it's conveniently located at the corner next to the big street at HB. Will definitely come back again if I'm in HB again!

The store location adds 3 stars to the one star review of the horrible cafe in this location; however, it needs to be clear others look at the posting for Java Point on a seperate review to see how bad this management team can be... The store though has a good group of friendly , younger staff members who have smiles on their faces and a great selection of products. The day I visited was a sidewalk sale day and they had a great selection of merchandise at stellar prices. The store is clean and has alot of staff working to answer any questions. I would recommend coming here to buy merchandise; however, stay far away from their coffee stand and if you have a rude manager seen doing your visit, run next door far away from this place...

Judging with hindsight of 25 years, there has been some drastic changes in layout and appearance, yet service is still poor to dismal. The entire store has been carved out by now multinational corporate surf brands which offers a more boutique feel, yet the professionalism and training of the service isn't up to par. Apparel is markedly uniform in it's blue collar aesthetic. I remember much more diverse offerings in years past with brands that had their own appeal. Now it's all workwear inspired satin jackets, heavy flannel shirts, graphic t-tshirts, and various versions of slim fit denim and trousers. It doesn't matter the brand now, it just all looks the same. Perhaps it's socal surf culture coming into it's own. Much of it used to be cheap and amateur derivations of more upscale trends. The only redeeming offerings appear to be the wetsuits and board shorts that have incorporated significant advances in technology and design. This is probably the "wave" and "cycle" of apparel. It's about that time where more local brands gain ground. Perhaps another volcom. They have all the popular and new surfboards, Lost, Firewire, CIS and in the new constructions However again the service suffers. As in years past it's staffed with undertrained and overly entitled teenagers that don't have the maturity to understand the customer's needs, create want, and sell like they should be doing. One can see the limitations of a family owned operation. This is the type of place where you come in knowing what you want, knowing they have it, and getting out.

I love the sidewalk sales! I love the US Open of Surfing merchandise. We have purchased body boards, surf gear... I get all of my flip flops here - they carry Reef and Sanuk. Typically the staff is very friendly, and there is a great variety of surfing gear, clothing, and local gear needed to enjoy the southern CA lifestyle. Plus The coffee Shop - Java Point is a hidden gem.

Kelci the manager is amazing! Her customer service is by far the best. She was so nice and helped my boyfriend out by exchanging fins for his new surfboard. I love HSS and have been shopping here for years but today she brought a whole new level of service. Micah was also very helpful and professional. If you're in the neighborhood make sure to go in and shop!

Seriously the most down to earth and all around awesome crew. Went in to talk about learning how to surf and ended up falling in love with the shop and its staff, all were friendly and eager to help. Thanks for the hospitality and new Vans.

Great family owned shop. Their prices are far better than anyone else for surfboards... I went to jacks first and they wouldn't give any sort of discount. Hss gave me tax off and some free goodies. This places has it all and is always having mega sales on the weekends. If you're willing to fight the crowd, you could get some amazing beach gear super cheap. I also recommend this place for gear rentals. They have a myriad of boards and boogies for rent that will get the job done. Their prices, again are cheaper than anyone in Huntington.

A MUST DO! If you are into the SOCAL lifestyle of BBS - Beach, Board shorts and Surf; then this store is for you. One of My favorite Surf Shops. I can always find something to buy in here. They have the latest styles in clothing, in the coolest colors, not found in your regular department stores. When you shop online it may be cheaper sometimes but you may be out of luck. Unless you know the style and brand it may not fit, or it's a different color than the picture shown, or its a different material than you thought. Then you have to do that whole Return Thing. Here you can try on everything. You will pay full retail price. They do have sales here a couple of times a year & then you can get some really great deals. They mostly cater to guys, but they do have women & kids Merchandise as well. They have Board shorts, T Shirts, tanks, shorts, hoodies, sandals, hats, surfboards & other cool beach stuff. They are right across from The Pier & the ocean. Next time you're in HB be sure to check it out. They are also right across the street from Jacks which sells similar items but carries completely different lines of merchandise. They're both cool surf shops that really don't compete with each other at all. Actually they bring more people into HB. That's cool. Mahalo! Lots of good name brand choices (Hurley, Volcom, Patagonia, Billabong, including their own brand name AND more!!!!). LOVE their apparel variety and how neatly clean and displayed everything is! Came here twice over the weekend and bought hats and tees for the fam. Stop here for good quality shopping including surfboards and accessories.

I always love visiting this store when I visit Huntington Beach. The store is right across the pier so it's a short walk from the beach. They always have unique apparel and my kids of the kids section. Staff is friendly and helpful. We will be back again next year.

Surf City, here we come. It's official...Huntington Beach is America's "Surf City, USA" (http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2008/01/27/news/state/14_47_341_26_08.txt). Santa Cruz can chill with the legal challenge, pull on their 4/3 full suits and paddle out to icy cold Steamer Lane while we in So Cal will apply sun block and paddle out in just our bathing suits. Life is always better in the hot sun. And what would be more natural for a city this large and so steeped in surfing lore than to have the largest, wildest selection of surf gear? HSS is a treasure trove of what gets you off at the beach and into the surf, name it, they got it. But when they first built this place, I hated it enough to avoid it for years. I saw it as nothing more than a surf-inspired mega-store where history was wiped out for a profit. Even when they began the Surfing Hall of Fame walk, I avoided it. Even when they installed a custom, all-wood, hand-made Greg Noll long board made of rare koa from Hawaii, I avoided the place. And then I got high and went inside and I love the place now...even after getting spooked by looking up to find a huge Great White shark staring black-eyed and remorseless down at me. You can meander around in comfort, cup of coffee in hand, surrounded by the flotsam and jetsam of the sea without feeling like a pariah from inland and being hounded by snot-nosed, bleached blond sales-kooks. These folks are laid back and cool and will talk loads about their personal experiences in the surf without applying sales pressure. "Oh, can't sell you a new board or bathing suit today? No problem! So did you catch any good ones this morning?" This place is so big, they can afford to have huge sales and every weekend the sidewalks are lined with racks of clothes, wetsuits, bathing suits, trunks, sandals and other items at rock-bottom prices. I don't even have to be high to come in here these days. Just as long as there is surf in Surf City, USA, I'll be around. P.S., HSS has an annex down in Seal Beach, much smaller but Seal Beach focused.

We visited the Huntington Beach area and stopped in here for some shopping. The store was very clean, neatly organized and well staffed for customer assistance! We were quite impressed with all the different variety of apparel. As well as the huge surfing section! They had a few child clothes, but I'm assuming there isn't as much of a demand for kids as there is adults. But they had a few kids clothes. We definitely will shop here again if we travel back to California!

I was a high-profit HSS customer for 20+ years - but no more. My family and I are locals and have spent thousands (and thousands) of dollars here and routinely shopped here all the time. Wax, wetsuits, leashes, sunglasses, traction pads, sunscreen, lots and lots of clothes and shoes for the whole family - you name, we used to buy it at HSS. The customer service I experienced today is super disappointing ... especially from manager, Sean Martin. I honestly couldn't believe the guy's give a shit attitude. I bought a brand new, full-priced O'Neill wetsuit for my daughter from them (probably 20th wetsuit there over the years) and it had a major seam rip out after 2 wears and 10 days. The suit was clearly faulty and I know O'Neill would take it back as a RMA no problem (HSS is one of their top retailers and I also just asked a couple local surf company reps and they confirmed it). Heck, Ripcurl will let you bring one back for a full refund after wearing one for a week even if you just don't like the color. My daughter has a surf contest this coming weekend but no wetsuit. All I wanted to do was exchange the suit for an identical one or get a credit that I could use to buy a different one. Sean's response was "that's impossible". Sean instead said they'd send it back to O'Neill and had no idea when I would hear back from them. Geez, thanks a lot. The end result is that I can't wait to tell the parents on my daughter's surf team, my neighbors and my surf buddies of the horrible attitude HSS management takes towards their loyal customers and not to shop there. It was funny that even the employees at the shop seemed surprised at manger Sean's attitude. No problem Sean - I'll take my business to Jack's or RipCurl or Frog House and tell everyone around that HSS is lame. If the management of HSS had expressed even a tiny bit of understanding rather than disinterested arrogance then I would feel different. Unfortunately that didn't happen.
