"Lengthy lines for banh mi, catered to with brisk efficiency, are the norm at lunch time at Huong Lan. The secret is to grab a table, order from a server, and eat your sandwich at leisure. The ultra-sweet, lusciously fatty grilled pork at Huong Lan is unique to them and either loved or loathed for the marbled fattiness, but the quality of the bread and distribution of toppings for the banh mi can be uneven.  Grab a banh mi at Duc Huong or Long Sandwich and order banh hoi thit nuong (grilled pork over rice noodles) at Huong Lan. It’s the same pork that goes in the sandwiches, on noodles with salad, herbs and fish sauce dressing." - Becky Grunewald

Google
Want to give 3.5 but there’s no option like that. The food its alright, Sandwich was cold however there’s good portions of meat in there. A lots of people were waiting to purchase their sandwich. Good price but if you compare the sandwich from across the street they have much much better bread in my opinion. You can give a try if you want but I don’t recommend this location

Google
Love, love Huong Lan! Delicious, nutritious, and affordable bánh mì/traditional Viet meals! Their service is always so good, too. Will continue to give them alllll my money.

Google
The egg rolls are delicious! The sandwiches are good. The bread isn't as good as at Duc Huong. The parking isn't great. The online ordering system is awesome! There are two lines when you walk in. Order online and it'll be better and faster.

This particular day they were a little slow however the security guard made my day. He was helpful with a variety of elderly people and even joked with me while I was waiting for my food. I honestly have to say I may come back for the great food. However, the security guy made my day.

The two waiters were prompt, courteous, and friendly. They served my phở tái and meatballs precisely as I ordered: rare meat on the side and cooked bean sprouts with plenty of noodles and herbs. They brought both hot tea and water, as I requested. I know it could be done. Other phở places should take advice on these two gentlemen on how to provide friendly and efficient service.

This place brings back memories when I used to live out of town and I came to visit my friend when he was going to school here. This was where we'd stop to grab a Bánh Mì Sandwhich and restroom stop before heading back home!! Overall the sandwhiches were still good. I honestly didn't remember which sandwhich I used to get. Been 6+ years now. 😅 Also got a steamed pork bun to go!! It was good~

Google
Best Asian food around! Better than the other pho shops near here, seriously. I eat here once per week at least! Food is all fresh and cooked perfectly. The vegetables are fresh and the grilled pork is to die for! The large egg rolls are big and stuffed full, one of my favorites. Great customer service, everyone on staff is super friendly and very customer oriented.

The restaurant has finally opened for dine in again. I had Mi Bo Kho today and it was as good as always. Dine-in service has improved. They has a new station for dine in order and check out. Tried Bun Reu (good, recommended) and Bun Bo Hue (ok) Tried banh xeo today, delicious, recommended.

Yelp
Great food for a great price! We stopped by on Christmas Eve, and it was just exactly what we needed. The service was quick and friendly, and there was constantly a line out of the door for the other goods they sold in the restaurant. I got the pho with rare steak, flank, and meatballs. The soup was warm and comforting, and the portion was generous. The herbs we were provided with were fresh, I love adding jalapeños and Thai basil to my soup. We got the pork bánh mì to go for dinner, and it was so good! The bread was crispy and chewy, the lemongrass pork had a nice charred taste to it, the pickled daikon/carrots cut through the richness of the pork and mayo, and the cilantro and jalapeños gave a great freshness to the sandwich. It was sweet, salty, sour, and savory, and delicious! I look forward to coming back here again.

Yelp
We were excited to know that there was a huong lan here. We have been to the one in San Jose and loved it there. However, as you can see the bread is not the same. Instead of a baguette it seemed to look and tasted more like a sub sandwich bread. Would definitely not be returning. A banh mi is not the same without a baguette that is soft on the inside and crispy on the outside.

Yelp
Used to come her alllll the time like many many years ago, it was such a classic for bahn mi and other viet snacks/desserts. We finally came back on a sunday, parking was real hard to find crowded and super busy. When we went inside there was a longg line. Maybe after 15-20 mins we were finally able to order. Then if we order for togo they make us wait outside by a window (that used to not be there). But we waited for like 20 mins prob. We got three streamed pork bahn mis and a mango boba and taro boba. These were both like 6.50 for drinks and bahn mi was 5.50? The price for the bahn mi was good but the boba is not lol. Its like priced as the expensive boba for not expensive.. yk? The mango one used to come with jelly and boba but they only gave boba this time sad. I mean they were boba good but not worth it ig. The bahn mi was honestly not great. They skimped so much sadly. Thin pieces of the steamed pork then so little of the pickled carrots and other greens. I LOVE the pickles carrots but there jus was not enough sadly. Bread to filling ratio was not it lol.

Yelp
Huong Lan has been my family's go to shop since I was a child for bánh mì, chế, and nem. The staff are so kind, humble, and always serve with efficiency. This was my first time sitting in and trying their noodle soups. I had the bun bo hue with this spicy pastry (I don't know the name) and my mom had hu thiếu. Very authentic and fresh Vietnamese food. Come support this small business if you are in Sacramento, their menu has a variety of options.

Dionna T.

Yelp
Decent and affordable snackies!! Always packed with lines of people! Be prepared to wait!! Best option is called ahead of time and place a togo order. Skip the line head over to the sign that says "Online and Phone Order". Go to are #7 sandwiche and #14 Avocados Shake with pearls!

Niko L.

Yelp
Sandwiches are always good, but the service takes forever. They took 30 minutes to make 2 sand witches for me. It seems like they made

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Decent food, nice service. Busy, diverse mix of patrons - a good sign. Seedy area, same plaza as SF supermarket so please be aware of your surroundings.

Deanna N.

Yelp
You can dine in or take out. I moved to a different state and come back to bring home a bunch of food from here every time. It's so good. Highly recommend. Gets better each time I come! Service is good but I would recommend ordering on the phone if you're in a rush. The crowd comes in waves you never know when you come and the line is out the door or not. Accepts cash and card! A cute mom and pop location

Alex N.

Yelp
Probably the best place in Sacramento for Vietnamese delicatessen/banh mi and light bites and desserts. This place has my personal favorite Banh Mi (Vietnamese style sandwich). Weakness: wait time for completing the banh mi orders Food: Banh mi dac biet (special cold cut) - 5/5 - the favorite, the one traditional banh mi every true blooded Vietnamese person goes for Banh bot loc - 5/5 - excellent; like a tapioca tamale filled with with shrimp and pork served with fish sauce Banh beo - 5/5 - timeless flat rice cake with shredded dried shrimp served with fish sauce Banh cuon thit & cha lua - 5/5 - classic, timeless served with fish sauce Banh bao - 5/5 - I love this version; filling with egg and pork sausage Banh gio - 4/5 - never have I loved this but I like it... like a rice tamale filled with ground pork Banh day - 4/5 - never have appreciated this because how sticky and annoying it is Sam bo luong (herbal dessert drink) - 5/5 - very good Sinh to bo (avocado smoothie) - 5/5 - sweet and creamy Ambience: Basic design of deli restaurant Service: Operates almost as like a fast food / delicatessen... sometimes the wait time can be excruciating long for your banh mi order

Tina F.

Yelp
Service is ok. Ambiance is ok. Sandwiches are the best. They are better than Duc Huong. Love that their bread are made fresh there. This place also makes other to go items which I really liked

Karen P.

Yelp
Always been a big fan of Huong lan Sandwiches! They have very yummy sandwiches and hot food. You can order Sandwiches or you can also buy and create your own. Some people don't like veggies so we would buy the fresh bread, pate, ham, and butter and make them ourself you can always buy veggies too and add them in if you like. I love the mocha Pearl here strong but not too strong! They also have eggrolls, spring rolls, porkchop with rice and many more delicious items to chose from. The service is okay. The ladies up front speak very little English. But if you order sandwiches it usually goes by number.

Conscious C.

Yelp
Food is OK, not amazing Vietnamese food. Banh mis aren't that impressive, to save money they use cilantro stalks instead of just leaves, so you end up with a bunch of sticks. The bobas/shakes are small, most places are bigger. Today I noticed a $0.40 mystery tacked onto my bill too labeled "Merchant" (not tax). I guess they've added some kind of new junk fee, but honestly don't understand why they're doing it now since in 1 month a new law goes into effect where all California restaurants cannot add any fees.

Christopher C.

Yelp
For the price and quality of food is always top tier. This time I ordered the Grilled Pork Banh Mi with a Soursop Smoothie. The grilled pork banh mi had an excellent char with the veggies giving it a good crunch and texture that were married by the baguette. 10/10 The Smoothie on the other hand... ...this time not so great. I found pieces of plastic in my drink. Taste wise was delicious but overall it killed the experience. Would I go here again? HELL YEAH. I've been going to this spot since I've moved to Sacramento in 2013 but unfortunately this was the first mishap I've had. Overall, I think I'll just stick to the sandwiches and just order my usual Iced Vietnamese Coffee.

Ericka P.

Yelp
I've been going to this very location for 20+ years and they still to this day have the best spring rolls in my opinion. The peanut sauce is hands down the best that I've had to this day. Today I got my favorite sandwich, the #12. It's a combination sandwich, it has ham, headcheese, pate and steamed pork. It was delicious as always! I also got the passion fruit juice and it was also very delicious. This place is a Vietnamese sandwich shop that has all sorts of things, I love it because it still has that old school ambiance like I remember as a kid. The service is ok, nothing special, so if you're looking for awesome service with big smiles this is definitely not it, but you will get authentic food and very affordable prices.

Tracy L.

Yelp
5/5 every time I go! I am a big Vietnamese sandwich girl and love this location! I've been to the one in Fresno and Stockton as well but this one trumps all. I always get the BBQ Pork one as a half baguette. One of my favorite things about this location is the option for a half baguette which is larger than their normal size. This location also has the best prices and serves the sandwiches cold versus warm which makes a big difference for me. These sandwiches are the perfect lunch and give you the perfect ratio of meat and veggies. I normally go over the weekend during lunch so theres always a line but worth!

Yelp
While I was in Sacramento, my aunt kept raving about this place. We swung by to get sandwiches for the guys. I walked in to the restaurant with her, chatted with the really friendly guy behind the counter, then let my aunt do her thing. We walked out with three BÁNH MÌ ĐẶC BIỆT (steamed pork, ham, head cheese and pâté, with all the condiments/veggies on the side) and an order of pork & shrimp spring rolls. I was never a fan of Vietnamese sandwiches, but the first bite changed my mind. The store-baked roll was crunchy and chewy, the meats which were distinct texture-wise were delicious, then the pâté kind of tied everything together. Putting the veggies in transformed it and made it even better by adding crunch, spice and a bit of sweetness. It just made me look forward to the next bite. We went back in a few days because everyone loved the sandwiches, and ordered... surprise, surprise... the exact same things, but had it for dine-in this time. Made sure to try some of their drinks (Thai iced tea was a little on the sweet side, but gooooooooood. Consider this added to my regular haunts for whenever I'm in the neighborhood. (can't wait to come back!)

Yelp
I left a review many years ago. How nice Yelp dumped it. Well, since then the banh mi sammies are even better! The bread change was a big part. A good portion of stuff inside with a reasonable price makes me a new fan. Over the years, long sandwich and Duc Huong were the staples new banh mi go-tos. Now, I would put HL right with them. They are sell a bevy of packaged goods and serve menu items like Pho, dishes and soups. I wish I lived nearby as I would converge on this place like an unwelcome neighbor!

Kimberly N.

Yelp
I come here frequently to pick up banh mi sandwiches. They have a variety of different sandwiches with chicken, pork, and beef. They're made fresh and are delicious. The prices are reasonable and not outrageous like other places. Huong Lan has the best sandwiches.

Yoon S.

Yelp
Haven't been here in years and decided to drop by to get a sandwich. (typically i go to Duc Hung). Came in and there were only 4 people inside, ordered two sandwiches and took them 20 minutes to get my order out...super slow service. Not surprised seeing how empty it was now. Not coming back.

Lynn H.

Yelp
Huong Lan holds a special place in the heart. This long-time standing establishment has been a beloved go-to spot for authentic Vietnamese sandwiches and foods items that reminds you of your childhood. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with familiarity that only comes with years of creating exceptional food and building genuine connections with customers. The sandwiches, oh my goodness, they are pure perfection! The delicate balance of flavors, the freshness of the ingredients, and the aroma of their heavenly baguettes combine to create an experience that is nothing short of divine. Each bite is a nostalgic journey, and it's evident that the love and dedication poured into these sandwiches have made them a staple in the hearts of many. It's heartwarming to witness how Huong Lan has become a gathering place for friends and families and is still around to this day. Their contributions to the Sacramento Vietnamese community go beyond just serving food; they've become an integral part of the cultural fabric. So, if you're looking for an authentic Vietnamese experience that comes with a side of cherished memories, Huong Lan is the place to be.

Yelp
Always love their sandwiches. We ordered the grilled pork and special combo sandwich. Reasonably priced. However, the wait time was 40 minutes. Probably due to some large orders. There were so many people that they had to switch it to the outside pickup window. Definitely need to plan and order ahead of time.

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Ordered 3 sandwiches to-go and they were delicious! The cashier was patient when we ordered but the service here isn't anything worth noting aside from that. We waited over 20 minutes before I read some reviews and learned that sandwich orders can take a long time to complete. No wonder there was such a long line of people waiting! We decided to just go grab some lunch and then come back to pick up the sandwiches, which worked perfectly since we kept the receipt and order number. The set up of the inside is sort of weird and scrambled, but nothing too difficult to navigate. I'd definitely come again for the sandwiches (the pickled carrots & daikon here are some of the best I've had too!!), but I'll order ahead next time to avoid the wait.

Hal S.

Yelp
The place isn't much to look at, but the food is great, and to top it off, it's really treasonably priced! Several orders of pho, several bahn mi sandwiches, and spring rolls totalled approximately $65. This was Sunday lunch for a party of six, and we left with food in hand! The table service was good, the gentlemen serving us were quite attentive and handled any requests promptly, and even anticipated some of our needs before we could ask! (Good job!) Everyone who ordered pho commented that the broth was very good. The bahn mi was delicious! They make the bread on site so it's really fresh & tasty! I can't wait to come back for more.... If you're in the neighbourhood you should pop in for a quick bite!

Phuong D.

Yelp
We waited 30min for 2 sandwiches...it was disappointing. I went to Hương Lan after seeing the long lines at Duc Hương. Don't think the wait was any better despite the lines being significantly longer than Duc Hương. We ordered a few pork patties in addition to 2 banh mi sandwiches. We were then redirected outside to a small window on the side of the restaurant to wait for pick up. As I said, the wait was long, but the sandwiches were good. The cha lua is smaller in size, thus slightly cheaper. Maybe next time we'll order banh mi and go grocery shopping at SF Supermarket instead of standing around waiting.

Si Si L.

Yelp
Stopped here for a banh mi to take up with me to the snow for lunch. I bought a pate chaud to try out as well. It was nice to have a warm savory pastry on the drive up. I tried the banh mi at Gio Cha Duc Huong across the street a few weeks ago, and I'll have to say that I liked the banh mi from Huong Lan more. I thought the bread tasted better and the mayo they use taste better. The line was short and they made my sandwich quickly. I am definitely coming back here again next time I head up to the snow.

Misty B.

Yelp
Sandwiches are always so delicious! If u want a different take on sandwiches try one here and you won't be disappointed. It's often busy but that's a great sign of good food. The baguette bread is fresh and so tasty. Our family go to is the #15 and #5. They are always a go to!

Tho T.

Yelp
Awesome delicious sandwich got bbq pork but they have more options. Bread was soft and meat was nice. Will be back hopefully soon.

Anthony P.

Yelp
This place is always so disorganized and slow, and the banh mi aren't worth it anymore

Andrew L.

Yelp
- Tasty and fresh Bahn mi and menu items - Various delicious food items to purchase. - Quick service. - Bustling ambiance.

Dom N.

Yelp
I don't go here for the sandwiches. I go here for the bò kho. I don't normally eat hủ tíu, because it's usually made with pork. Hủ tíu bò kho is alright though. I like mine with a lot of annatto, gives it the red color. The stew is well-rounded. Not a lot of cartilage. The beef is tender. You can really taste the lemongrass in this bowl. Good items they also carry are gỏi ngó sen, pâté chaud, bánh cay, bánh bò nướng, chè chuối, chè trôi nước, chè đậu trắng, bánh cam, bánh tiêu, bánh chuối nướng, bánh da lợn, and dầu cháo quẩy.

Cindy N.

Yelp
Their sandwiches are just ok. How their rice plates and noodles are pretty good. Definitely give it a try.

Anthony D.

Yelp
I know when I go to this place I'm always gonna be satisfied with the sandwiches and the boba. The food is always amazing. The service and ambience is the only thing lacking imo. It is packed so not a lot of places to sit down to eat. The ordering process is sometimes confusing because there are multiple lines but kind of messy so it's jumbled to see who is next.

Twilite S.

Yelp
Wanted to try different and not familiar with the area, read yelp reviews and tried this place. Real good sandwiches and you can't beat the price. Definitely going back and definitely recommend. The place is clean and well kept as well.

Katie C.

Yelp
Fast Clean and Delicious. Not to mention affordable. Went in on a Sunday and it was busy but not too busy. Like was fast, food came out fast and the banh mi sandwiches were really good! Next time I come in I want to try the pho. I took home lots of goods, the chow mein is my favorite.

Brian I.

Yelp
WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR BREAD???? They changed the banh mi bread. It used to be a nice, crusty baguette. Now it is chewy mess. Someone had told me they had changed their bread and it wasn't as good as before. I went today, and they were right. Probably one of the weakest banh mi in Sac. It sucks, because this had been my favorite Vietnamese deli (great bbq pork and ginger steamed chicken) and banh mi go to spot. I will no longer visit until they change back their bread.

Remi S.

Yelp
My family and I went inside this restaurant today, 3/13/2024 and we ordered 3 bbq pork (#5 on the menu) and one chicken sandwich. I ordered chicken for myself, not BBQ pork! But they gave me the wrong meat, and when I went inside to complain, they gaslighted me and said it's BBQ chicken! But in the video you can clearly see it's bbq pork. I just left there, not wanting to make a scene, and just decided to vent my frustrations here. The sandwich was subpar, not as tasty as the usual place we visit when we come to Sacramento. The lady was just too lazy to make another sandwich. Don't go here, next they'll probably spit into your order.s

Victor L.

Yelp
Great spot. Price is really reasonable, food is really good. People are quick. Always been consistent. Loved it

Analeise L.

Yelp
Been coming here for many years. It's always busy especially on the weekends. I waited about 30 mins for 3 rice plates. I was really disappointed to see that the pork was not cooked fully. Probably won't be returning.

Rob L.

Yelp
This was the 2nd time for me at this location. The sandwiches and the prices were good. However, just like my 1st time, this location is really really slow. Not sure why that is since they seemed to have a lot of people working in the back making these sandwiches. I miss the Rancho Cordova location. Now, that was the place that had their sh*t together. The sandwiches were great, and the service was equally great w/ very little waiting time. Having said that, the only way I'll go back to this place is by ordering ahead of time.

Kailey C.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time and absolutely love the special combo. They add onion here which is the first time I've seen that happen and it compliments it well. The Mayo is sweeter than what I'm used to but it's very, very good. I bought two for myself but I wish I bought 10 wish they had a rewards program. The wait was a little long though. I went around 12:30 on a weekday and waited about 30 minutes. They take card and Apple Pay with no extra cost so that's nice.

Thuyen L.

Yelp
I always have problems with a male cashier behind the counter! He always doesn't know what he is doing ! And he is very rude and slow! He doesn't know how to look at or search the order! The female cashiers are always better! I wonder why the owner has let him work there until now!

Sheryl H.

Yelp
This. Is. My. Go. To. For bun rieu, fresh coconut drink & banh mi sandwiches!!! This place NEVER FAILS to make awesome food!!! Don't be fooled by a small restaurant like this because their flavors are amazing! They keep the restaurant super clean & the lines go by quick! Sometimes it's tricky for them to understand English but long as you point to what you want from the menu they usually have no problem placing the order. There is a bit confusion with their menu & numbers but just let them know exactly what you want so you're not getting different meals! Lol. That was our mistake when we placed a banh mi order instead of an appetizer.

Marichris P.

Yelp
Got the #7 and #1 These sandwiches are delicious!!!! Have been coming here for years. Whatever protein you choose wether it's bbq pork, grilled pork, head cheese, chicken, etc will always usually come with pickled veggies, sliced jalapeños, and cilantro. The baguette they use is crispy but soft when you bite into it, and the place feels like it's family owned but it's a good sized space. You can sit down and order some pho if you want as well or grab sandwiches and other snacks/drinks to go, your choice. Always will recommend this place!

Levii T.

Yelp
Parking can be a bit complicated sometimes but today we got a spot right out front by the store but getting out was a nightmare. I got 4 Sandwiches and all were well made with all correct ingredients. I got bbq pork. They also have drink options like bobas and shakes. I got the mango and I didn't ask for bobas but they added it in my drink which was surprising! It was sooooo refreshing and perfect for this hot sacramento weather! The line wasn't too bad when I got there but it grew once I was in line. Even though they seemed busy they were quick to fulfill my order.

Eva B.

Yelp
This is our place to go when we have no money. It's delicious, well priced, and we would share a large coconut water to make it really inexpensive. You can't make it at home for less, and it's really good!

C S.

Yelp
I ordered and waited for my order to be called patiently and it turned out my order has been sitting in the counter. I stood in the wait area for good old 20 minutes and they did not call my order they just let it sit there. Watch your order like a hawk if you don't know how to speak Vietnamese and if this is your first time going here, check constantly. Finally, if you wait more than ten minutes, check with the counter or you will be wasting your time just like I did. Absolutely not coming back. To the owner: you need a numbering and order management system.

Vladimir S.

Yelp
Definitely a destination to get some good sub sandwiches. Ambiance not that great. Everything is outdated. Wouldn't elect to sit down and eat but would get something to go. Can get busy and have a long line to stand in. Definitely worth checking them out.

Daw Fah C.

Yelp
Too busy to cook for myself, haven't gone to restaurants for pho in a very long time... I'm very picky of ingredients that they put in. I tried to avoid too much carbs, sugar and unhealthy oils that restaurants used to cook their food with, AND ESPECIALLY TOO MUCH MSG that i can taste., After eating at certain restaurants i can tell right away. 2 stars taken away because the broth isn't as aromatic as I thought it would be, the bone broth isn't as intense...other then that it's a "ok". My son had the egg noodle duck, the broth is a slight too sweet for my taste bud, the broth is not as I thought it would be.

Yvonne F.

Yelp
The last couple times we've been in at 7am once they open because we're on our way for a quick road trip and need their fabulous Mocha Shake with pearls to keep us awake. Understandably at 7am the Boba/pearls are not cooked and ready because they just opened. But could they give us a discount because we're not getting the Boba/pearls? Some boba shops charge 50cenrs for boba, how about 50cents discount without boba.

rocket v.

Yelp
Trying out this new lemongrass sa te. Seen people put it on banh mi and other things. I tried it with stir fry and it's all good!
