I love this down-home restaurant. All the food is delicious and the staff is very friendly. Great prices, too! I believe everything there is vegan 💓

Google
One of the best Asian vegetarian/vegan authentic cuisines in Sacramento region!! Seriously, this place is no joke. It's a small discreet hole in the wall restaurant with limited seating but an infinite amount of possibilities and wonder! It's kind of confusing at first. So basically you walk in and there's a whole bunch of food items laid out with no labeling, no idea what anything is. Then there's a menu on top with English. The items do not correspond to menu (I think?). But they do have a menu on the wall behind the cash register that has soups and discrete meals (like pho, bun bo hue, and rice plates. I forgot to get a photo of it.) Basically you can either get some ready made food with write rice and 2-3 entrees or order some hot food that will be ready in <10 minutes. Everything is vegetarian or vegan. They make their own tofu and they have a wide variety of tofu. Pho: I LOVE pho so i have a pretty high standard. Let me tell ya, there is a surprising depth to the broth with a decent amount of tofu/protein in it. They give you a handful of bean sprouts, lime, and Thai basil. Bun bo hue, vermicelli, and the entree was also good and very flavorful. The prices are excellent for the portion size. You don't think you're getting a lot, but the tofu is jam packed with protein so you get full easily. Just beware, this place is CASH ONLY. And limited seating. They also sell their tofu and some vegetarian sauces and other food itens. Also, the workers may have limited English knowledge so your service may be different based on who you're talking to. I definitely want to come back and try more vegan options as I had a blast trying all the different entree options!!!!!!

Google
What an interesting experience! It's a Vietnamese Take Away shop with a small Viet grocery store. I was unsure what was vegan and what was vegetarian but any "meat" is faux. The first woman helping me was very sweet but couldn't speak English so well, but another English speaking employee came to help. They were very generous with their portions and the food was great. It is quick, cheap, and tasty! It may take a few times of ordering to get it down, I was a bit out of my element at first but still very happy with my experience. We ordered all kinds of amazing tofu, veggie bbq pork, and their veggie beef noodle soup. The soup was my favorite thing!! I recommend taking it all home and getting a bit creative. Everything needed to be heated up and we decided to fry up the vegan pork to make it a bit crispier. Make sure to come early so you have access to their best offerings! Over all it was really good food and sweet staff and I recommend this place! I do wish they would switch from styrofoam to a more sustainable take away packaging though!

Google
All vegan, all Buddhist, all Vietnamese, excellent small diner with a wide selection of dishes prepared in-house to enjoy carry-out or sit down in a booth to eat at your leisure. Served hot, delicious, friendly, courteous, and appreciative of kind patronage. I’ll return.

This place is must-try. It’s a good place for vegetarian with various tasty dishes.

Google
Delicious, cheap, expansive vegetarian options. I tried it on a whim, and I'm glad I did. As good as Anna's Vegan Cafe. But bring cash!

Another vegetarian eatery in Sacramento; exceptional service.

Google
Based on previous reviews, it seems this place used to be really nice. I would love to keep supporting but the times that ive tried to give this place a chance 9/10 had gotten old expired food. Its clear they dont get as much people coming in since having to serve old food, but I think the best thing this place can do is promote a grand opening.

Yelp
Food: tried the fried tofu and dessert. Really good. Dessert: priced depending on item. Tofu: 5/$1 Combo plate: rice and noodles + 2 sides for $10.00! Service: quick no nonsense and efficient at taking your orders. One of the ladies spoke English. Ambiance: tables are meant to seat 4 people. Any larger and you will need to seat in separate tables.

Yelp
Love the vegan friendly options here. My favorite is the bi cuon chay - the vegan spring-rolls and wide variety of fresh tofu. Friendly services too. I ordered in the morning for a small party tray pickup and they are so accommodating. I preferred no noodles Bún in my spring rolls and they customized how I like it. It was definitely a huge hit at the party.

Yelp
Have to give Huong Sen another 5 star rating. The flavors and offerings are amazing. Absolutely delicious.

Yelp
Vegetarian spot off of Stockton Blvd in Sac. If you don't speak Vietnamese, there's a language barrier. (However, don't let that deter you from checking the business out. You just may have to do a lot of pointing.) Over the years I've tried their soy milk, fried tofu, soup, and bao. The vegetarian bao is my favorite item, in terms of the taste. The best value would item would probably be their fried tofu (I prefer the lemongrass over the mushroom, but I still eat both. A hole-in-the-wall business that I would describe as a bit dingy, but it's worthwhile to check it out if in the area.

Yelp
A hole in the wall vegetarian spot in South Sac. Everything is pre-made and in warming containers behind a glass counter. I think they replenish certain items, but once they sell out, they are done. You just have to point and let them know what size you want. They speak a little big of English and usually friendly. I see the same lady for years. I love the fried tofu (mushroom, lemongrass and plain). I think it's 5 pieces for $1 now. It's a steal and they are well known for their fried tofu. I enjoyed the variety of flavors and texture. The sweet and sour soup with okra, tofu and vegetables is a must doing the cold months. I really haven't had anything I didn't like. The vegetarian char siu taste and look like meat. I don't know how they do it. I also like the spicy eggplant. You can order soup noodles like bun rieu or bun bo hue to eat in there or take home. They have few tables and usually empty when I'm there. They also sell a bunch of vegetarian dry goods and snacks.

Yelp
I love a quick vegan burger or sandwich but if you're looking for a REAL MEAL for only $12, you need to come try their Bun Bo Hue Chay here, which means Vegan Beef Noodle Soup. This has become a staple in my vegan lifestyle. I abstain from dairy and meat for Lent every year and every year I always get a quick snack from here. This year I decided to sit down and try something off their soup menu and I am blown away by the flavor despite being completely animal product free. It's ran by a helpful kind Vietnamese older man and they preferably take cash only. The space is small, intimate but cozy. It actually reminds me of restaurants in Vietnam. My favorite thing togo is their vegan spin on BBQ Pork and their sweet tofu dessert.

Yelp
As a vegan I love this place!!! Have been coming here for close to 10 years. Bring cash! Order everything! Delicious! Get there early because they sell out and will have limited options close to closing. Try it! Friendly service, clean store. I usually get it togo but they have booths for dining in.

Yelp
Super bomb fresh food very friendly and welcoming too all people love this place family owned

Yelp
The lemon grass fried tofu and mushroom fried tofu is my favorite here. The cost is only 5/$1. They used to package the fried tofu in a styrofoam container if you purchase more than $5, however my last purchase was placed in a paper bag, which became saturated with oil. The fresh soy milk is delicious, however each time I come here they seem to be out of stock. The spring rolls and baos are very tasty even though there is no meat. The baos are a bit pricy for being small at 3/$6 but they are soft and delicious. The workers do not speak much English, so pointing at food and being patient is a must.

Yelp
I think this might be the only vegan restaurant in the greater Sacramento area that I have come across that makes their own tofu and soymilk. All other vegan places I have visited use store bought tofu. It's a unique restaurant there are items that are made to order (mostly pho), items that pre made and kept in a display case (multiple rice and noodle dishes, and a variety of stir fry and curried vegetables, tofu, and mock meats), and items that are pre-made and pre-packaged to go (rice and bean dishes, rice and lentil dishes, appetizers, and sweets). They also sell fruits and vegetables, and plain and flavored soymilk in 1/2 gallon jugs. I had very limited options because I avoid onions, garlic, mushrooms, and vinegar which are used in most of the dishes. Except for the pho which is made to order, all the other items include fried tofu get cold sitting in the display case. They do offer to reheat it, but I don't like the idea of reheated food, so I end up eating it cold. They also have a hot tofu dessert which is probably the item that I enjoy the most when I go here. Prices of everything are unbelievably low. Probably the biggest issue I have with the place is that it could be cleaner.

Yelp
Best tofu and pandan waffles ! Make sure you have some time before ordering the waffles because they make it fresh.

Yelp
One of the few things I miss from my South Sac days. Come here if you like good food, whether or not you're veg or into Vietnamese cuisine.  If you live in South Sac and haven't checked this place out, I suggest that you check this place out. I have the same advice for anyone who doesn't live in South Sac.  Go to Huong Sen if you're an adventurous soul. Go if you're a foodie. They offer various vegetarian dishes--savory and sweet--either frozen or ready-to-eat. They also sell common Southeast Asian pantry items like chili garlic oil, instant noodles (no egg), vegetarian pork floss, et cetera. Go if you'd like an authentic Vietnamese experience. Go if you like eating well on a budget. This is far from a bougie spot, but that's part of its charm. Where else can you get five pieces of delicious, freshly made fried tofu (lemongrass or mushroom flavor) for a dollar? (Trivia: It used to be six pieces.)  They used to have a dine-in area, but they shut it down during Covid and--as far as my last visit a few months ago--they haven't brought it back. I miss being able to sit at a booth with my sister or a friend. (FYI, my sister is also my friend.) We'd be having a fun time talking and goofing around while working on our ridiculously large and satisfying bowls of pho. Good times.  Go to Huong Sen Tofu if you enjoy supporting ethical local businesses.  I used to volunteer for Food Not Bombs, which distributes vegan food for free at Cesar Chavez Park. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the huge amounts of tofu we used was made at and donated by Huong Sen. Pro tip: If your English is better than your Vietnamese, ask for the employee named Too (yes, like the number).

Yelp
A little hidden gem. The food is so comforting and delicious, genuinely my absolute favorite go to for noodle soup as someone who cannot eat seafood and most of these dishes traditionally use some type of seafood. They're so kind too! Genuinely feels like going to my grandparents house! I love it here and the food is amazing and reasonably priced! Please come and support, they deserve it!

Hisayo P.

Yelp
Fresh and great taste. Got vegetarian vermicelli #10, $12. Great service. Got a free hot tofu as a first visit. CASH ONLY.

Raymond H.

Yelp
I have some inputs that hopefully the patron would consider: 1. Get rid of the selling merchandise island in the center of the store. That makes the store narrower. 2. I wish they have the dish of "măng kho", my favorite dish.

Tea C.

Yelp
The food didn't have a whole lot flavor. They made several mistake with our order and the soup container broke and leaked in the bag and my car. the chow mein that I ordered was mix with the rice noodles
google avatar

JiaHui L.

Yelp
Cool find for vegan Vietnamese and Asian food. Food is not hot, except the tofu was warm...good assortment of flavored tofu seaweed, fried. Got what I wanted by pointing, not sure if I would've selected menu items...Yeah they don't speak English much
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
Try the spicy eggplant!! I've had this dish for over five years and it's my favorite eggplant dish from anywhere! It includes carrots, celery, and tofu drenched in a spicy sauce and it's so delicious!

Lyna T.

Yelp
Very good Vietnamese vegetarian food. All the dishes w tofu does not disappoint. I was able to ask for sample before buying. This is my new go to place for Vietnamese vegetarian food.

Yelp
My favorite tofu! comes from this hole in the wall love this little place A buck, 6 pieces fried tofu with flavor choice I heart lemongrass A trek for me to visit this tofu heaven my order stays same If I was closer I'd totally venture more with menu items The veggie dishes no signs or explanations line the display case Noodles offerings and other things I can't read on menu on wall Noodles tasty here to go ones are pre-made, fridged for at home heating Yum tofu dessert can taste freshness in texture delicate sweetness Service ain't rude, but confusing as motor-fudge if don't speak their tongue The biggest drawback plastic, styrofoam overuse makes me feel guilty Place is NOT pleasant stuff here are sticky, grimy beat up furniture In shared parking lot with tight spots and bad drivers always an issue 5 stars for the food all else worth about 1 star but I'll still come back
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
I stop here about once a month when I shop at SF Supermarket nearby. I always get the fresh rolls from the case in front & the stuffed jalapeños from the hot bar. I have been trying other things each time but I have no idea what most of it is since it's not labeled. Everything has been good but I did get a "seafood" dish that was to salty for my taste. Bring or stop to get cash, they don't take any other form of payment. Come early. I got there at about 5 and they were out of several things.
google avatar

Minah L.

Yelp
I love the low prices here, $7 for each of the noodle soups we ordered! I also got $3 banh bot loc to-go and they were very small but delicious. The bun bo hue did not have a strong bun bo hue flavor but still tasted okay. Both soups were on the sugary sweet side (rather than fruit or veggie sweetened) but had a decent amount of fake meats and fried onion for more flavor & texture. Great place for cheap, vegetarian Vietnamese food!
google avatar

Mama V.

Yelp
CASH ONLY. Vegetarian dishes all daaaaaay son! Fave winners here are the coconut curry tofu skin, rice paper spring rolls w peanut sauce, and the steamed buns w mushroom and noodle inside. And of course, you must always get the fried tofu w mushroom pieces...
google avatar

Mai L.

Yelp
4 stars for food quality and 5 for price. Their food is a little more in the salty side but I like it that way. I recommend trying their bun hue and bun man. The broth is rich and flavorful. The workers are so sweet and friendly here too. Overall, it's good food but not the best chay food I've ever had that's why I didn't give it a 5 stars but I highly recommend this place if you are in search for Vietnamese vegetarian food.
google avatar

Akituna S.

Yelp
We came by this place for tofu. Clean, small togo place with few tables and chairs for dine in. They have variety of vegetarian dishes for you to choose from. You can also order noodles soup. If you're craving for snack, give these 2 a try. Eggroll - .75 each or 3.00 for 5 pieces Banh cay - 1.00 for 5 pieces. Their food were a bit cold, but flavors were ok. Service was ok, but when we paid - cashier lady (could be the owner) was a bit rude to us. Perhaps, she had a bad day.
google avatar

Erena S.

Yelp
I love this place!! We went there to take out for dinner and then went back the next morning before we head back to SF. We bought a lot of stuff from there. Super delicious and people were so sweet.
google avatar

Thuy N.

Yelp
Delicious vegan food at a really good price. They have vegan pho for $7 a bowl and rice plates for $6. You can also get sides to go for cheap. They have great customer service also. I recommend you come here for vegan food if you are in the area.
google avatar

Phoebe T.

Yelp
Tofu heaven! Love all their vegetarian choices without breaking the bank. Food are so so flavorful. I left with 18 tofu + a small order of their spicy egg plant for $5.50! Whaaaat?! Spicy eggplant is my favorite so far! Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Pang M.

Yelp
They do NOT speak English. Most customers there can translate for u. I order their fresh tofu.
google avatar

David ..

Yelp
Lets get this straight, I'm a Carnivore, I eat meat like a fat kid. First time eating Bun Bo Hue with no meat, surprisingly good flavorful.
google avatar

Yao C.

Yelp
Cool Tofu place.... they have a lot of variety of tofu dishes that is ready to eat. Also, you can purchase fresh tofu for a good price. Even though I am not the biggest tofu fan, they have some types of tofu. The place is small yet pretty clean and they even had soup noodle dishes such as egg noodles in a tomato broth with tofu. I even asked the person who worked there what is in the egg noodle soup.... and he simply said... tofu. Also, they are known for their pandan waffles which are made fresh... next time I will give it a try. They also have veggie Bun Bo Hue, which was okay but you cannot beat the original and plus.... I love MEAT. This place is a cool pad to try even if you are not the biggest tofu fan.
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
FOOD Bun Rieu Chay: vermicelli noodle soup with 4 different types of tofu, tomatoes, carrots, and a white veggie I can't pinpoint. This dish was okay. It doesn't compare to the real thing. I liked trying the different types of tofu. I liked them all except one that had huge black peppers in it. 3/5 SERVICE Fast and fair. Your typical Vietnamese deli service. 3/5 FINAL THOUGHTS I would come back to try other dishes and maybe their combo plates.
google avatar

Alice A.

Yelp
A hidden hole in da wall would describe this place quite well! At first glance it looks like an ordinary Vietnamese fast food joint. You may get overwhelmed by the amount of Vietnamese everyone is speaking- the lady behind the counter may even try to converse with you if you look Asian! Luckily the staff does speak some English and will happily assist you with what you would like. They offer various ethic pre-packaged foods- many in which I never even seen or heard of. So I decided to pick up their bamboo leaf warped "Che Chuoi" and Taro-potato-carrot in sauce! (Because anything with taro must be awesome, right??) In addition to their warmer and refrigerated section in the back, in the middle are hot foods. You can purchase them a la carte or do what I did and pick the $5 combo! With a mere $5 you can sample any two dishes and noodles and/or rice of your choice! I grew up eating my mom's stuffed bitter melon and I have not had it for years! This place offers Vegan version of it (and many other delicious things) so I definitely added it to my plate. I do not regret any of our choices, when we got home- we tasted everything and everything was yummy, a bit salty, but yummy! Note to self: order extra rice. If your in the area and wish to try new and exotic food, than drop by here! There is something for everyone here! I agree with the other yelpers that this place is better for takeout unless if you do not mind the atmosphere :)
google avatar

Jenny N.

Yelp
I just bought 2 waffles for my kids today ,so disappointed ! They are burnt and not looked like a normal waffle ! I think the lady who makes that waffle she doesn't know what the heck she doing !NEVER EVER come back here again! This is second time this happened!!!!!
google avatar

Peter V.

Yelp
Great food and a regular customer here! Don't be surprise with the lady worker who wear glasses transparency because that's just how she speaks and presents herself. The food is never a disappointment and warm noodles are always on point. Maybe the egg rolls and fry food can use a heat warmer but besides that try the tofu it's good !
google avatar

Daisy Y.

Yelp
It's very hard to communicate because none of the employees speak a lick of english. The entrees that are on display look and are very gross and rough. The employees there don't seem to understand the concept of veganism so I find myself constantly asking about items on the menu having meat or dairy, as there are no labels with ingredients on ANY of their products. As a strict vegan, I definitely do not feel assured here that my meal was cruelty free. It seems like a lot of their options contain dairy to an extent.
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
Vegetarian and Vietnamese foods. Has been coming to this store years and it's always depend on who behind the counter for the prices of the foods. Old lady charge the foods more expensive, she charged me for fresh block of tofu for $ 1.75 and told me the prize just went up yesterday this happen last week when I went there. Tonight the old man behind the counter charged me $ 1.50 for the fresh block of tofu. Avoid the old lady, come back next time if she's behind the counter. Cash only.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
This is a staple for any vegans in Sacramento! Such tasty fresh spring rolls and tofu cubes at amazing prices.
google avatar

Carol N.

Yelp
Yummm!! My mom introduced me to this place and I am addicted to the tofu they sell here! This is the place to get some cheap yummy tofu!! It is the place for vegetarians. They have a restaurant and food to-go and many tofu options. I get the fried tofu and the fried tofu wrapped in bean curd. I have yet to try the other items. I am personally not a fan of vegetarian food i.e. imitation meat, but I do love tofu and the tofu here is delicious!! The fried tofu here is cheap also. They have fried tofu that have mushrooms and lemon grass. They are both good, but I prefer the lemon grass. It's 7 pieces for $1. My favorite however is the fried tofu wrapped with bean curd. It's $2 a stick and just so good!! I could eat it all day!! It's also good when you reheat it in the oven because it gets so crispy too! I wish they sold that in SoCal where I live. I also saw that they have pandan soy milk!! I love pandan and will have to try this next time. I'm going to stop by this place on my way back to socal and get me some tofu to munch on for the road!!
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
Their mushroom tofu is the best. I go there just for that. I would normally buy two boxes. They are a vegetarian restaurant. Not crazy about their vegetarian food, but their fried tofu is kind famous. They have two flavors lemongrass and mushroom. Personally I only eat the mushroom one. If the older gentlemen is there he always makes it fresh for you. When you run into the older lady please be patient, her English is not very good. Might need someone to translate.
google avatar

Alex T.

Yelp
im not vegetarian although i wish i was, either way this place had some bomb lemon grass tofu which rocks my world! Came in here for a quick pick me up, such as a little snackie, not sure if its good for you or not but it was good! I had gotten $2 worth of lemon grass flavor tofu and tore it up. Yes they do deep fried it, so its steaming hot when they hand it to you. The mushroom tofu is great as well where it has mushroom and vermicelli noodles mixed into the tofu. The inside is quiet and quite warm on a sunny day since they have no AC inside. They do have lots of food prepared in the steam table so you can just point and they charge you per lb and size. All the food in here is vegetarian or tofu. They even have pho noodle soups too. Overall i am a fan of this place for a quick snackie. Thanks for reading and lets yelp some more.

Daniel E.

Yelp
Language barrier is a bit difficult to overcome, but the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Will definitely return.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
Delicious food, great selection, & super nice people Even got some advice from a few friendly regular customers helping me decide what to try & the 5 items I wound up with were all awesome! Will be back soon to resume trying Everything eventually
google avatar

Patrice P.

Yelp
Do not let the menu fool you!! Their food is all meatless! Everything I have tried is INCREDIBLE, very rustic, homemade, REAL food. Some of the food they serve I've never even have seen before--peppers stuffed with tofu. Wonderful people and family-owned! So, so, good!!

pat a.

Yelp
Super rude service, ordered veggie broth was given cold and on top of that not even filled up all the way. I don't appreciate the staff member I spoke with his response was like "oh well" attitude. Smh be kind to your customers when they support small business!!!
google avatar

Jen N.

Yelp
Cheap tasty vegetarian food! We always stop by when we're in sac. We're impressed given most items are premise! I only wish they had more seating, can get super packed. Ask to reheat food if it's a pre cooked item.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Bun Bo Hue is really good here for a vegetarian dish! Highly recommend this spot. Is a whole in the wall so bring cash.
google avatar

Rosalyn L.

Yelp
I've been frequenting Huong Sen a couple times a month for the last year or so now so, I think it's time to write a review that's long overdue. I normally stop by for everything and anything that has to do with tofu. Especially the silken tofu dessert with ginger syrup (A must try and can somebody say Yumm?!), and all the fried tofus (lemongrass, plain, mushroom and even tofu sticks wrapped in tofu skin). They also have a fast food station with dishes all made with tofu and veggies. I'm not a big fan of the station (just not a big fan of fast food) but, I've tried many of the dishes there and my favorite is the saucy eggplant and tofu. The BBH minus the B is also really good and a freshly made pandan waffle is always a good snack. Seriously, I can eat like ten of these waffles if I didn't have to worry about my gluten intake and ahemmmm....weight. LOL. The neat thing is that you can also buy fresh tofu to fry and cook with. I always stock up whenever I decide to meal prep so that I can make my own tofu stirfries and braised tofu dishes. One thing that I absolutely love about Huong Sen's tofu is their bold soy flavor; something prepackaged brands seem to lack. Guess that just shows quality and the love put into making them. ;)

Yelp
Cash only!!! Bun rieu- I would recommend. It can be a bit sweet but once I put in a bit of lime and Sriracha it was perfect. Mix Spring rolls-this is a must try. The peanut sauce is uhhamazing. Get it to go if you're too full. Green Coconut waffle- made fresh daily. Just asked the cashier and she can make it on the spot! Definitely come hungry because the food is filling! $6 on average per meal is such a steal!
