Huron Substation was the most incredible venue for our wedding in April. We absolutely loved it, and so did all of our guests. From the first tour we took, we knew it was the location for us... it has beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces - and it is visually stunning in a rich, interesting, unique way. We love how the current owners and staff have worked to restore the building and honor its history - and in doing so, the history of LA. Dave is a wonderful site and event coordinator, and he was so communicative, responsive, and helpful! Everyone connected to Huron is clearly committed to the community and conservation, and the playhouse is awesome, too!

Google
Gorgeous little venue located in kind of a hidden spot here in LA! Went last Saturday for a wedding and it was so much fun to spend time in this space. It’s both an indoor and outdoor venue with lots of old world charm, a rarity in Los Angeles and it felt more like a place you’d find on the east coast. Getting to know about this space and the history of it was fascinating too, and overall I highly recommend using this space for your future event, whether it be a wedding or a conference or anything in-between, I really enjoyed Huron Substation!

Google
A very unique small theater that formerly was a trolley repair station. It was brilliantly transformed into a comfortable performance space. I was there for a table reading of a new play. The actors were excellent and so was the script. The most enjoyable part was the wonderful people that I met there. A good part of the audience stayed after the performance to meet the performers or just mingle with other theater lovers. It felt so good being there. I will definitely return for another event in this venue.

We had our wedding at Huron Substation and it was absolutely fantastic. The space is beautiful and Dave + co are the best people to work with. Super easy going and really care about making your event special. Highly recommend Huron. And hot tip - Footsies is right down the street, perfect for after parties!

Just wrapped up another successful shoot at the Huron Sub Station. I have been using this spot as a filming location for several years now and all of my directors LOVE shooting here! The space is HUGE, and my DPs also love the fact that they can set lights and/or cameras up very high when needed. We've even operated a luma crane inside the main stage.! It's very cinematic and even the natural light offers a fantastic production value. There's also a large outdoor area for staging equipment or feeding the cast and crew. And I love the fact that the owner manages the location like a professional sound stage, so there's no surprises or headaches, like when dealing with newbie property owners or overbearing location managers. Plus, the prices are competitive, and the service is very professional. Thanks again Meike! We'll be back!

Google
An absolutely stunning building, it is completely perfect for production and shooting. The room feels so big and open and the outdoor area in the backyard makes you feel like you're no longer in the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood. It is serene. Meike is awesome, easy to work with, friendly, and clearly knows how to work with productions of all kinds. Can't recommend this spot more!

Google
We recently had a school fundraiser here, everything went off without a hitch. Beautiful space and the owner went above and beyond our needs. They do film shoots, music videos and host a ray of different events. Great experiance overall, will be back no doubt.

Yelp
My buddies Dominic Toretto, Letty, Jesse and I Brian decimated all by building a 2JZ Supra that was all burned with overnight parts from Japan thanks to Harry's at the Racers Edge.

Yelp
I work for Chef Dora Presents and we recently catered their opening night theater event. The venue is very spacious, accommodating and absolutely gorgeous! Dave was extremely helpful and professional with all the coordinating and planning. We hope to continue doing business with Huron Substation again!

Yelp
Went here for an open house when looking at wedding venues. We were looking anywhere in LA that had pretty lights, a rustic/outdoor feel, and had a late night curfew. The woman responding to emails and hosting the open house was very friendly. I really want to give this venue 4 stars, because I kind of liked the homey feel of this venue, but I am biased by going to this venue on a very hot LA summer day, and we learned that they do not have air conditioning. Not ok. And unfortunately pushes Huron to a 3 star. However, this may be a 5 star venue for your wedding. The pictures are absolutely beautiful. And a small wedding with local LA guests for a couple that like to be a little out of the box, with no frills, but fun urban-y/rustic touches, this is the venue for you. I do think the price is a little high, and the kitchen was very small. And the neighborhood isn't the best area. Also, the bathrooms were tiny.... Don't plan on wearing a big puffy wedding dress, because the bride can't fit in the bano! However, if you're a puffy wedding dress bride, this is prob not the site for you. They cater to original, artsy couples. We're just not cool enough for this site, but I encourage you to check it out!

Yelp
I understand that the married couples with their families and friends had lovely gatherings here. I posted my one star out of anger of the 6,000 charge. Reason being, Cicada, Casa Vertigo, Castaway, L.A. Banquets, Houdini Estate, Ebell of LA, Ebell of Highland Park, Romona Hall, on top of so many others. These are all exceptionally nice to wow places. I had inquired each one and were all priced BELOW 6,000. Hence my shock and outrage. As I said before, if you have the money, go for it! Though if you're like me, looking for something that won't hurt your wallet, research, and keep on researching till you find a place to make those memories last!

Yelp
I just had my wedding here last month and I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out. Here's the jist: -Perfect for an urban-rustic theme -Both the exterior and interior decor turn out great in pictures -Smaller venue; comfortably fit my 55 guest wedding -Has both an inside and outside area (my ceremony and cocktail hour were outside; reception was inside) -Dog-friendly (our pooch was the flower "girl") -The owner (Meike) and the on-site manager (Rose) are super easy to work with --- and in the wedding world, that's the best compliment you can give. -Competitive rates --- venues with similar looks were more expensive This place perfectly reflected the type of couple we are... and once we decided on Huron, everything else for our wedding fell right into place.

Yelp
I'm a little torn about how to rate this place because I really want to give it more stars. The architecture of the space is amazing. When I first saw the place I was in awe of the structure I mean the building comes with so much history then I started noticing bits of a dusty grungy mess. I'm all for industrial and rustic but there's a difference between patina and dirt. The ivory curtains had splotches of dirt. I thought that the space needed a good deep cleaning and better landscaping. I'm not the neatest and I'm also not anal retentive btw but for a wedding? I wasn't the person having an event there but was asked by the bride to tag along since I'm an event planner/designer and I'm also looking for a venue for my upcoming wedding. I pointed the dirt details out to a friend who said they made the request to clean the space but I noticed on the day of the event that those details were not taken care of. They really did start with five stars but just for the structure. I took off stars for cleanliness, and lack of landscaping. Cons:There's street noise from the buses outside not cool when you are about to have that romantic moment in your ceremony. There's only two tiny bathrooms for a venue with a capacity of 115 Party Hours are limited No Airconditioning Pros:There's a cute chicken coop in the front and the chickens are adorable (.25 Stars) Beautiful space if cleaned properly and the pots of dead plants outside were removed Nice Rustic Tables and Chairs Love the Brick Walls Beautiful High Ceilings Beautiful Huge Drum Chandelier for Main Lighting The wedding turned out very beautiful despite all my observations because really in the end all that matters is that the bride ends up married to the one they love.

Yelp
I'm an event producer and have booked various kinds of events -- from political fundraisers to birthday parties to fashion shows to cultural events -- at bars and historical/cultural venues all over Los Angeles. I had a series of events at the Huron SubSation in May, July and September. One gathering was inside the gorgeous Substation with its soaring ceilings and dramatic staircase and chandelier; the other two were outside in the beautiful little courtyard with its lovely fountain. The lighting is magical in both areas and really enhances the ambience. All three events were wonderful and went off without a hitch. People were starry-eyed over both the evenings and the venue. I know several people approached the owner, Meike Kopp, about booking the Huron SubStation because they were so wowed by the experience. Meike was helpful, accommodating and professional. She was always accessible and quick to respond even though she had high profile corporate and entertainment industry clients booked the same weeks as our events. One of our evenings was just a few hours after a film or T.V. shoot of some kind. While I know production crews tidy up when they leave, they certainly don't scrub down the locations! Despite the quick turnaround, Huron SubStation was spotless for our gathering. Meike worked hard to make sure our events were successful. She was flexible and helpful when we had to make eleventh hour changes in the on-site set-up, made smart suggestions about how to best use the space and enhance the ambience, and personally helped us move tables and chairs around! We specifically booked Huron Substation for the summer months because one of our other venues was too warm despite air conditioning. We never had an issue with temperatures. I've booked events at many different kinds of venues with a variety of restrictions and rules. Meike was clear and reasonable about guidelines with both the venue and with parking. Neither our vendors nor our guests had any issues whatsoever. I have already talked to Meike about booking this particular event in the summer months next year and can't say enough good things about her and the Huron Substation.

Yelp
The Huron Substation is a magical place; an old trolly station that feels like a castle from the outside with huge vaulted ceilings on the inside. Industrial, romantic and rustic with a relaxed vibe. There are chickens that live in a mini airsteam trailer out front and a beautiful, backyard garden area with a fountain, beautiful lighting with and lots of shade. So dreamy and relaxing with plenty of space to relax and mingle. Overall, a very unique and large space with quiet nature vibes. The owner has a good relationship with the neighbors and offers many parking options from valet, to a nearby parking lot you can rent. Meike, the owner is super cool and really puts a lot of love and energy into her space. Everything is maintained very well, it is clean and she is very easy to work with. Fair, good with communication and enjoys offering such a great space to the LA community. One of the best production and private event rental spaces in Los Angeles. Feels like a fairy dreamland with a strong industrial presence. I would one hundred percent recommend this space.

Yelp
One of the lucky ones here... I have the honor of helping my close friends plan their wedding here, they only do a handful of them a year. Urban Beauty. Exposed brick High Ceilings Exposed wood rafters Timeless add-ons help keep this gem up to date. The spaces allows for 90 - 115 people, just right for a nice intimate gathering.

Yelp
As a coordinator, it is wonderful to work at unique venues that lay everything out in advance and are clear about what they do and do not offer. It is a great venue with an available kitchen, lovely tables and chairs that aren't your "average" wedding rentals, and although they have guidelines that you do need to follow, they are very open to fun and unique food options and decorating options (even though you don't need much to add to the awesome space). I have loved working there before and look forward to more weddings there in the future! Beautiful space, nice people! Owner is super down to earth! -- Megan [Owner of Megan Elise Events]

Yelp
I came to an open house for the Huron Substation. I absolutely loved all the pictures online and couldn't wait to see it and book a possible wedding venue. The venue itself is lovely. It would be absolutely perfect for a unique, urban wedding. It's on a corner in a neighborhood with a supermarket next door. You'll definitely need a valet service for the wedding. The venue is small, has a great comfy feel, with the vaulted ceilings and red brick. I absolutely love it. The outdoor courtyard is also very sweet and simple. Although you can make it super fancy or romantic as you'd like. It's almost like a blank canvas. My only issue was the noise level of the bus stop right outside the courtyard, and literally next door was a high apartment building looking straight into the courtyard. However, they mentioned that they are planning to build the wall a bit higher on that side. The ladies that run the place are very friendly. And there was a dog running around, so I'm thinking it's dog friendly!! Which is a plus if you'd like your four legged love to be at the wedding too. Price increase will start May 1, 2014, so book now to save about $300.

Yelp
We had a very hard time finding a location for our wedding as perfect as Huron Substation. It fit our budget, our taste, and our preference for something both urban and outdoors. Its location in Los Angeles was great for us. Even though it's in a somewhat residential neighborhood, it feels like the Los Angeles we love. Our guests loved the ambiance and the indoor/outdoor space. We worried at first about there being too few bathrooms, but we were pleasantly surprised that there was never a wait and the space was very accommodating for the number of guests we had (~100). Meike and Rose worked well together and made sure we were up to date with everything going on at Huron Substation while we were planning our wedding. We were able to visit the space a number of times with our families and friends. We also felt very proud to get married in a place that is inclusive and trying so hard to pave the way for marriage equality for all. This is a very unique and special place.

Yelp
Akane and Bernard got married here. If you know who they are then you have no real reason to read this review. Just ask them how it went. I liked this place, as a guest. It has a cool feel. Maybe like some old...uh...station...or maybe a smaller part of a larger station. Yeah, that kind of feel. The patio / garden / back yard / outdoor space thing was nice. Comfortable. Easy. Just like the description of a pair of jeans that rugged tough guys are supposed to decide to buy and wear. It does not look like you are approaching a wedding (or event) venue when you drive up. You're just in some random neighborhood, and it's not even that nice of a neighborhood either. There's an apartment building that's right up next to it with balconies that have a clear view into the outdoor area. I was hoping we'd get some hecklers up there, but we didn't. You know, some disgruntled, disenchanted divorcee who just booed and hissed and yelled out angry obscenities at all of the pretty people below her. It would have been pretty memorable. But it didn't happen. There's one bathroom. Be prepared for that. Also, the upstairs area is cool. No preparation needed there, unless you are unaccustomed to cool things. I am clearly very accustomed to cool things. I didn't even bat an eye. Didn't even flinch. Barely noticed. It was so natural. So natural. Yeah.

Yelp
Came here recently for a wedding. Not being familiar with the area since I live out of town, this place is kind of easy to miss since it blends in well with the surrounding residential area. After you do find it though, you will find it to be a pretty unique type of place to host a wedding or any other type of special event. Inside, as the name implies, looks like an actual early 1900's train station. Has an upstairs with private rooms and is a good place to take your pictures against the building. The back, or outside part of the building is neatly kept and "feels" like being in someones backyard, so it gives you that that, "Home away from home" feel. Only thing I found weird was a small chicken pen near the entrance. Felt like it was kind of random to have there LOL.

Yelp
Our wedding at Huron was perfect, and although we had a really great team of vendors and partners to contribute, a great deal of credit goes to Meike and Huron for our perfect day. In fact, it's difficult to read most of the negative reviews here because although Meike is firm, she's also fair and my own opinion is she has something special and I appreciate how serious she takes her work. My wife and I don't have have a lot of money and were determined to stick to a budget of less than $17,000 and we did it even with the cost of Huron. With our cost, we got a venue that provided beautiful tables and chairs and required little to no decoration to match our vision. The biggest difference with Huron, and what you should seriously weigh, is Meike's commitment to staying outside of the "wedding industrial complex." There are no kickbacks, no mandatory vendors, very few limits to what you can do, because Meike isn't making deals to boost her bottom line. She offered recommendations, and after our research we went with several of them. Meike was very clear about her expectations, and was very helpful to us as we navigated the process on multiple fronts. As we got ready for the wedding on the big day, she even reminded me of a small but sentimental detail of our very first phone conversation over 6 months earlier. The fact that she remembered made it clear to me we were more than just a faceless client. Even with the number of events she hosts, Meike makes a personal touch. This location deserves a look. It's beautiful, real, and can meet a variety of needs. We have such fond and vivid memories of our wedding there.

Yelp
I've had a few events here and it's always been a great a experience. The owner is super accommodating. I had to drop of things before the event and she made sure she rearranged her schedule to fit mine. The venue is gorgeous and it amazes me that it's in my backyard. Compared to other local venues, nothing compares! Expect a quick response and attention to detail with the owner. She made my experiences extremely easy going and flawless!

Yelp
Gorgeous space. Very cool vibes and run by a sweetheart of a lady who manages the space, Meike. Very cool space, historic and stunning on the east side. You'll be glad you checked it out. Really large main open room with very high ceiling. Outdoor space in the back as well. Grade A+++

Yelp
We recently held a fundraiser for school, Bingo night! It was a blast. The owner went above and beyond to see to our needs. The place is beautiful and the patio is breathtaking. Great experience overall and would have another event here again. Thank you for the gracious hospitality.

Yelp
Huron Substation is absolutely astonishing. High ceilings walled with brick and held up with gorgeous beams of red/brown wood. It is artfully, beautifully lit, with a large circular, handcrafted fixture overseeing the main space. Meike, the crafts-lady and woman who manages the space is wonderful. Warm, personable, engaging and ever-helpful. The space hosts an exquisite outside patio that is refined, intimate; perfect for a party or more secluded event. It was perfect for the four consecutive events I attended; the space added to the magic of the evening. Highly recommend for weddings, large events and would encourage location managers to seek out this gem for their commercials and films!

Yelp
We held our wedding at the Huron Substation on 10/31/15. Honestly this venue makes you fall in love with it at first sight. This venue photographs so well. The courtyard is great for warm evenings. Sounds too good to be true? It is... The owner, will destroy your dream wedding. Meike (Owner) is a bully. The entire night the owner policed our wedding. On top of so many rules, you have to practically bend over backwards just to hold your wedding at this venue. Meike clearly is not qualified to work in hospitality, more hostile than hospitable. To begin the day she was asking our guests to move their vehicles when parking on public streets. We had our immediate families arrive a bit earlier at the venue before the ceremony to take family pictures. The valet company that was the only company granted permission to work at this venue did not arrive until an hour before the ceremony, so Meike decided to ask our guests to move their vehicles from here surrounding parking spaces on public streets. She harassed my Husband, and our guests. Keep in mind we got married on one of the biggest party dates of the year, she complained the music was to loud, the surrounding homes had parties going on and the apartment building next to the venue (which had people looking into our party the entire night) had a huge costume party going as well. For the amount of money you'll be spending to have your wedding here, I hope that you take your money somewhere else. I also do not recommend vendors working here, this is not an easy place to work with. Meike kept walking through our wedding with a sour look on her face, she directed her questions to myself and my husband, which was not what we asked her to do. My husband's assistant was helping take care of setup, but Meike disregarded our request to have our assistant take care of any needs. It was very unprofessional that she bother us, especially since many of our guests noted her bad attitude and interruption of our night. Meike also spoke very rudely to our photographer and DJ, who were both nothing but professional. Meike kept reminding them of the rules they signed, yes, we all signed rules, but Meike's reminders to us of those rules were rude and hostile. At one point she threatened our DJ with sending in her security guard to take care of him. Seriously?! Who does that?! We expected a better clean up prior to the venue, but I guess Meike prefers to keep real spider webs on the walls instead of purchasing them at party city for Halloween. The beams, walls, and most surfaces on the second floor had a thick layer of dust on them. Overall this venue leaves a bad after taste in your mouth. For an important day like a wedding, look for a place that won't be a regretful mistake. Meike has said that we were a "nightmare" to work with, if we were a nightmare then why did our vendors have such a bad experience with her? She should not offer her property as a wedding venue if she is going to have such a negative, unprofessional, rude attitude.

Yelp
Huron Substation is a fantastic venue with a stunning interior, soaring ceiling, exposed bricks, rafters, an enormous chandelier, and a great open back-patio area with a fountain and lush plants. The originality of the design, the décor of the grand interior and the charm of the garden make it ideal for parties, receptions and photo shoots. Owner Meike is dynamic and gracious. I recommend this location for your next function.

Yelp
First and foremost, let me preface that anything I mention here is no reflection on how great my friends wedding actually turned out. It was beautiful and one of the best weddings I've ever been to! That having been said, DO NOT have your wedding here if you think the weather is going to be anywhere north of 75 degrees. The venue does not have air conditioning and it gets unbearably hot. Imagine being in suits and dresses in a sauna! If you must have your wedding here during the summer, I would suggest starting no earlier than 6pm. However, please note that the venue remains warm inside even throughout the night. My only other big piece of advice is to do everything you can not to have Rose as your onsite wedding coordinator. I'm not sure how it worked out, but I believe she was assigned as part of the venue. If it was just me, I definitely would not make a complaint about her, but just about everyone that came into contact with her that night had a complaint about her. In summary, she is rude when she speaks, for some reason does not know how to smile, and she goes about the night acting as if she just cannot be botehred to do anything. She supposedly is the coordinator, but she did a very bad job of knowing how to move things a long at a pace that made sense. Rose, why do you even do this as a job when you don't even look like you enjoy it?? I will say though that her assistant Annie is a doll. She was mainly the bartender for the night and her aura was just awesome. Also, even through the heat, the venue does lend itself to a beautiful scene. Just know that you basically will have to decorate the whole venue to make it all come together though. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Yelp
I am so very fortunate to have found this place! We got married here, and finding it was like a magical dream come true. We were looking for a funky cool, historic site that would let me cater my own food, and after endless fruitless searches we found the substation. It's in a weird residential part of highland park, right off of figueroa and it's an old electrical substation circa 1906. A chunk of untouched history smack dab in the middle of LA. The owner/guardian, Meike was the most cool and accomodating person ever. She let us do everything ourselves and seemed to prefer it that way! She even ended up joining our wedding reception and Mark and I stayed there until 2 am finishing the keg and chatting around the fire pit. And the price was right, too. She opened up her home to us and our friends (and dogs). I still cant believe we got to have it here. Huge open space with brick, and skylights and a huge loft. A courtyard with a fountain... Ipod compatible soundsystem. We have been invited back for a few parties and she's blown up there. I guess she was featured in the LA times or something. I'm proud to say that we were only the 2nd wedding held there though!

Yelp
The Huron Substation is most definitely booking weddings again. It's a must see if you are looking for a beautiful and memorable venue for ANY kind of gathering.

Yelp
What a great venue! A great mix of a secret garden feel with a old school industrial style building. Tables and chairs added to their in house inventory is a big money saver. Also, footsies bar just down the street is a perfect after party spot.

Yelp
Huron Substation is a fantastic venue. It can hold a good size group and has a great open back-patio area. The upstairs (which is actually the residential area of the owner) is a little small, but it works for a nice spill over area. The high ceiling, exposed brick, and fountain in the garden area are wonderful elements. Check it out. Great for parties.

Yelp
An elegant and intimate place to have your wedding! Great attention to detail and service! A beautiful space!

Yelp
I've been to many events at the Huron Substation over the years, and it is a very special place, both indoors and out. It's urban and funky and very artsy, just like the lovely owner Meike. She is a pleasure to work with, totally reasonable and easy-going, and an excellent communicator. I can't say enough good things about this space. Definitely go and check it out for your event, or as a shooting location.

Cynthia T.

Yelp
Rude Staff. Not sure if she is the owner, but a blonde haired lady is the most deplorable person I've ever been in contact with. She is flat out rude, "I don't care" were her first and only words when I attempted to make a delivery for a wedding. You can absolutely have rules but you don't need to express them in that manner. Will definitely NOT recommend this place to any business clients. It's cute but the nasty vibe from this woman ruins it all.

Robert N.

Yelp
We had our wedding here last August and it could not have gone better. We keep hearing "best wedding I've ever been to" over and over again. We had 120 people and the space accommodated the crowd perfectly. The inside/outside flow works great. Temps were in the 80s and it was perfectly pleasant thanks to the large doors that open up to the garden. Our approach was less formal. No assigned seating, appetizer stands, bar outside. We had musicians and a DJ and all of it worked seamlessly in the space. The space has so much character it took minimal touches to make it work for a party-style format. We rented additional furniture for the outside and some uprights. Kept the flowers minimal. The space just works. Couldn't recommend the venue more and the new management is superb.

Lizz A.

Yelp
We had our wedding here last spring and it was fantastic- better than we could have hoped for, even with the evening rain. Meike & Rose were amazing, accomodating, and so fun to work with. I never stressed once on my big day!

Yelp
My husband finally found Huron after an exhausting search of overpriced, tacky venues with impersonal staff. We were really looking for a funky venue that would allow us to do much of the work ourselves but provide a nice canvas. When we walked into Huron we knew it was the place immediately! The characteristics of this place fit our personal style right on. It was vintage, historical, but modern at the same time. They have an awesome new chandelier and a giant projector with a screen. The backyard area is perfectly designed so we didn't even have to decorate it at all. Everything is kept so nicely. Meike was super personable and offered us a "no BS" intro to the Substation and its policies. She had so many great suggestions and really listened to what we wanted to do there. We liked Meike's personal attention and she made us feel confident that things would work out when we were feeling stressed. Though Meike is not a wedding planner, she really focused on any issues that came up regarding the space and connecting with vendors that were being a pain. She had great communication skills and was so helpful with questions and concerns. The day of the event went great with the help of TACT, the site rep company. We were able to access the space at noon to get everything set up. We wound up getting rental furniture and bringing some things from home. Otherwise, the space really speaks for itself. We got so many compliments on the space and how comforting and fun it was. We are constantly having people tell us what an amazing space it was and asking for Meike's contact information. We feel so connected to that experience every time we go over the photos. It really felt like we had an event authentic to our style and relationship. My husband and I definitely recommend the Substation for any event. It really helped make this night the best of our lives.

Yelp
We had our joint birthday party at the Huron Substation. What a great place to have an event! It was so huge and so private. I loved the back garden with the fountain and the front entrance: I felt like I was in Sonoma. The building has these super high ceilings and a big polished concrete floor...with areas set up for sitting and eating. Rugs. Tables. Sitting areas in the large back garden, too. Playback on the TV Screen. The big kitchen took care of all our needs. We had our caterer in and she did a great job and said the kitchen had much more than she even needed for our large party. The atmosphere was super low key and beautiful. Because it is not too far from Silverlake or Downtown LA, it was all very convenient and everyone could go home that day. So it's perfect for a stay-in-town event. Meike was a lovely, generous host. She gave so much of her time and answered every silly question we had. She makes everyone feel at ease. It really was a magical night.
