An old‑Florida, family‑run landmark in Pass‑a‑Grille with a twin rooftop bar famed for technicolor sunsets. Endorsed by Visit St. Pete/Clearwater and singled out by Axios among Tampa Bay rooftops, it’s pure beach‑town tradition.

We needed an afternoon with seafood and beach nearby. This was definitely worth the drive from Tampa. Cute colorful beach restaurant with many drink options and good food. Located across the street from Pass-a-grille Beach. Grouper bites were delicious. Both my husband and I ordered the lobster roll. It was delicious. Bread was a little thinner than we normal, but it was OK. It just got soggy from butter. We will definitely come back.

We were going to another restaurant but it was carry out only and we didn’t want to sit outside so we came to this place and we were glad that we did so. The food was delicious at this place! I had bowl of clam chowder and grouper nuggets which were both delicious. Then our son had crab cake plate which was really delicious (and very rich!). My wife had a bowl of lobster bisque which she really loved and we all shared lobster Mac and cheese which had good amount of lobster meat and since we couldn’t finish it, we took it back and ate it next day and it was still delicious reheated. Only thing is our server was hard to find and we had to ask another server a couple times to get refill on our drinks and a check. We’ll definitely come back to this place, though.

Right on the beach. Tried to sit upstairs but it was closed because the forecast said rain. Grouper sandwiches were tasty. Small portion was enough for the meal. Grilled veggies and asparagus were cooked well. Food was good but a bit expensive. Drinks were well made and tasty. Expresso martini, rum runner, and bucket were all strong and served quickly. Service was very personable and helpful. She made the experience.

What isn't to love about this place? It's the classic Florida tropical beach bar vibe you have been looking for as a tourist or local alike. We LOVE the rooftop bar area as the views for sunset on Pass-a-grille beach are unmatched. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, and they even have a few items for your dog you can order! So cute! The service is top notch and they offer many locally crafted beers or that well crafted tropical cocktail to pair with the state of relaxation you want to be in. You can have your special event here as well since they have multiple floors to rent out. They thankfully survived the past hurricane season and are open! This is definitely one of our go to places when we are in this area!

Google
We stopped by The Hurricane in Pass-a-Grille and had a great time. The crab tots were definitely the star—crispy, flavorful, and just the right amount of indulgent. Yum! We also tried the Hurricane Burger. It was a bit undercooked for our taste, but still had a good flavor overall. Might just ask for it a little more done next time. Our server was attentive and right on time with everything, which definitely added to the experience. We sat on the bottom-level porch outside, and while the view and vibe were nice, it was a little chilly—bring a light jacket if you’re planning to sit out there in the evening! Overall, a solid spot with beach vibes. We’d come back, especially for those crab tots!

Google
It's an Amazing place for lunch or dinner. Very good food. Cold peel shrimps 🍤 with 3 sauces, yummy. Clam chowder & Lobster 🦞 bisque, both of them delicious. Calamari fresh, not frozen before; Delightful. Dessert, Kye Lime Pie. Drinks, Piña Colada. Special mention to our Server KELCE, for their GREAT service, always helpful, beyond the usual servings. Of course we will return.

Google
This is the best place to watch the sunset in Pas-A-Grill. Drinks are not the best but the price reflects that. The day we want the elevator was broken and they had no food on the rooftop. Everyone there had a chance to see the sunset and each group had their own space. Parking is limited because beachgoers take over despite the tow warnings.

Google
Awesome food and super nice staff. The rooftop has live music and a beautiful view of the water. The staff were very attentive and really cared to make sure we enjoyed our visit. 😊 *as I’m typing this, the waiter brought me a cup of Gatorade because mentioned I was feeling dehydrated from being in the sun too long. So kind

Yelp
Such nice people working at this restaurant. We mentioned that we had three dogs with us in strollers and they happily welcomed us! They were so happy to see our dogs. It was a slow afternoon so most of the employees came by to say hello and spend some time with the girls. The GM even came out and gave the girls a treats. So let's focus on the food. We had a little bit of everything. 1. Blackened Grouper sandwich with Fries 2. Blue crab tater tots 3. Fried Grouper bites 4. Smoked fish dip We sat outside and the view was great. We really liked the restaurant and would recommend it to those in the area!

Yelp
I visited Hurricane Seafood twice on a recent girls beach trip and everyone enjoyed their meals both times. My sister had the lobster roll twice and loved it. I had the fresh grouper Reuben and the crab melt sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed both meals. The service was great; we interacted with many employees and they were all friendly and helpful. They offered opinions when asked and were great about special requests. The dining room isn't anything special (it does have A/C), but the covered outdoor seating is fun and I'm sure the rooftop is great. We'll definitely visit again!

Yelp
Had a good time at Hurricane! Situated on St. Pete Beach, the views were impeccable. My favorite part of the meal were the onion rings- some of the best I've ever had. The batter was savory and salty- while the horseradish sauce was tangy. The salmon was fresh and the asparagus was buttery and earthy. My mom got a couple dirty martinis and she said they were delicious! our service was good, too!
google avatar

Yelp
Very nice experience tonight. Good food good service and great atmosphere. Located across from the beach with plenty of outdoor seating

Yelp
It's one of our go to places and they have their own parking lot, because parking can be a problem. It's across the street from the beach with indoor and outdoor dining plus a bar on the roof. This time we had the boom boom shrimp, which was terrific. I had never ordered their grouper sandwich. There were 2 choices the original or petite. The original was huge! It hardly fit in the bun and although it was messy, it was delicious. You can pick a side and I chose onion rings. My wife loved her shrimp tacos. We were too full for dessert, which we usually order the key lime pie.
google avatar

Yelp
We came here after receiving a recommendation from a local. We started on the rooftop with two rounds of drinks at sunset. The drinks were good, a little fruity and sweet for me but we wanted to order off the menu. After sunset, we went downstairs for dinner. The service was fast! Our server was so friendly and great with the kids. Everything was delicious. The lobster bisque wasn't the best we had ever but I'd order it again! Crab cakes were SO good!
google avatar

Tricia L.

Yelp
Love this place! It's right on the beach and they have parking in the back. The portions are huge and the food is super delicious. We did the crab tots and holy cow it was enough for 4+ people. We sat on the ground level outside bar and Jen was amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
The rating on here doesn't reflect the restaurant. The food was amazing! To start, we had the Seashore Loaded Tots, which were flavorful and loaded with crab, the Grouper Nuggets, which were light and perfectly fried with a thin and crispy batter that didn't feel heavy or oily. The clam chowder had so much flavor. The fairly priced Lobster Roll (hot/CT style) was phenomenally, simply flavored and overflowing with chunks of lobster meat. The Mom's 1945 Crab Cake Dinner had two good sized actually Maryland style crab cakes with only cracker crumbs as breading/filling. Simple and delicious just like in Baltimore. Their award-winning Key Lime Pie was utterly decadent and the perfect mix of sweet and tart, topped with a yummy key lime drizzle. Everyone enjoyed their dinners thoroughly. The server, Heather, was knowledgeable about the food, drinks, and restaurant history. She was friendly, accommodating, quick, and really made a family meal even better. We sat outside and watched a stunning sunset over the beach mere feet away as enjoyable music played around the casual, colorful, and comfortable environment. There is something for everyone and, if you like good seafood, you will love Hurricane!

Yelp
Drinks were good. Appetizer boom boom shrimp was good. Dinner Food was ok. Service was slow and our waitress acted out of it.

Bill M.

Yelp
Hurricane deserves special recognition for a consistent approach and reputation for delivering the worst food on the beach with the most lack of diesel service attitude possible. This is a well recognized reputation by locals and as a result, my wife and I have not visited for at least 10 years until today. Our fears were rewarded with four meals at work each almost un edible. It will be at least another 10 years before we will waste good money on this place
google avatar

Jen A.

Yelp
Great rooftop bar with amazing views! Brandon and Michelle were very friendly and made great drinks. I'll for sure be back!

James M.

Yelp
Slow service met with stand offish attitude from staff left a lot to be desired. We were sat outside and had to ask several times for our waitress to come by the table. Food & atmosphere were okay, cocktails felt like a college bar and not worth the price.

Tony M.

Yelp
Not even sure where to start. The wife & I had not been here in a few years. We used to frequent this restaurant and liked it so much we had our wedding reception there on the upper deck. Yesterday's visit will be the last. The place was dirty, the staff were unmotivated, the food was frozen garbage and came out lukewarm so had to be sent back. We had no drinks but the bill was $84 not including the tip. It was just sad. You got the impression they're about to close shop. Do not give them your hard earned money. Maybe that's why almost nobody was there at 6:30 on a Saturday night...

Yelp
After a day on the beach we all wanted hamburgers. Hurricane wasn't our first pick but they did allow dogs which was great. The server was friendly. The appetizers were all very small portions but they were made well. All the burgers were over cooked. We asked for medium but we got well well down. Some of the fries were also undercooked. The burger tasted ok.

Dawn W.

Yelp
Very disappointing. We wanted to sit inside due to heat of the day. They sat us in a side room that had no atmosphere and was right outside the open kitchen. The food was ok. The drinks were good. The waitress was very nice.
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
For rooftop bar service only. We stopped in for a quick afternoon beer. We were quickly served and beers were cold and the drinks tasty! It was a bit chilly/windy up top,but the views were awesome.

Yelp
We attempted to dine at the Hurricane for the first time. While waiting in line there were two hightop tables available in the front of the restaurant behind the cute little white fence. I requested to sit at one of those and was told they seat by server and my option was either the picnic table ON the sidewalk or sit inside. We left and chose another location that was superb and accommodating. I did not press the issue with the hostess because I have learned, if the restaurant really doesn't care about accommodating you right from the beginning, they most likely will not care anything about your experience after. Hope you change that policy or make it more flexible for a new customer to want to return to your establishment again in the future.

Yelp
Seafood platter with grouper, shrimp and crab cake was delicious! Highly recommend it. Best place for food, beverage and sunset!

Yelp
So a trip to FLA is not complete without a fried grouper sandwich from the Hurricane. I visited the area as a child in the 70s, lived here in the 90s, and have been visiting my family here since the 00s. I've tried many a grouper sandwich, but have yet to find an equal to the one here, fried, at the Hurricane. It's a great restaurant, and the rooftop bar has great views of the setting sun. Bottom line: Please let me know your favorite place for a fried grouper sandwich.

Todd H.

Yelp
Just wanted to say our server CICI was very nice. Ordered 2 grouper paradise dishes at 34.99 each. Came out smothered in a salty bisque sauce and couldn't tell us which one was grilled and blackened. Crab cake was awful and a mush. Grouper was ok but the shrimp that were supposed to be in a garlic butter sauce were something out of a frozen meal. They were tiny and white with no grill marks or seasoning. We've ate at 4 places while here and the shrimp has been fantastic. We left over half of our meal and didn't want it wrapped to take with us. Told CICI it wasn't very good and she spoke to the manager and he took 10% off of 2 meals at over 70.00 and we didn't even eat half of it. Great location and cool place but the food was awful and don't waste your money

Ann M.

Yelp
We were a group of 6 and had cocktails and appetizers. Food was just . Drinks were good. Many drinks to choose from. Service was great. The ambiance was nice. Great rooftop bar with excellent views of the Gulf.

Yelp
Sean is the best bartender!! Give him a raise NOW. He's so attentive and nice. Very respectful

Yelp
We were on a tour of the area and our guide said she wanted to take us to Hurricanes for lunch to see the view and grab a bite. I panicked when I saw the low Yelp scores. I really depend on Yelp. I was equally afraid of the restaurant not having gluten free options. They had a special side parking lot that wasn't too crowded and was free. We walked up the stairs to get to the top for lunch. They did have an elevator. The view at the top was amazing. Rivals some that I've seen in Australia! They did have some gluten free options. I got the 1/2 shrimp and lobster and veggie bowl. The service was amazing and friendly! The food was fresh and delicious! We enjoyed our lunch so much we came back for dinner. We sat downstairs but I would recommend going upstarts. The bartenders, servers were great. The hostess that seated us was on her phone and seemed annoyed at us but everyone else was super friendly and fun! Would definitely recommend especially to view sunset.

Yelp
I was there Sunday Nov 24, Sara was my waitress, she said she was new but she was definitely not new to being a waitress. The food was fabulous & Sara was awesome waitress. Thanks for great meal
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Good food - has a big food & drink menu. It's right across the street from the beach, so it's a fun location. The staff is slow & seems more annoyed you're there - they must have forgot they earn tips for good service. We still tipped 22%.

Dan L.

Yelp
Lobster Alfredo was delicious and the burger I got myself was also good. Our waitress Sarah was very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Teetered between 4 and 5 stars for this one, but I'm going with 5 because they probably have the best grouper nuggets I've had yet. This was my first visit, but it certainly won't be my last. Pros: - Seafood, seafood, seafood and it's actually amazing - GROUPER NUGGETS - Boom Boom Shrimp were super crispy - Tasty drinks and fairly priced for a beach bar - Rum Runner was bomb - Great staff, everyone was very friendly - THE VIEW. Catch the sunset upstairs or downstairs - Quaint and beachy atmosphere. Come dressed up or wear your bathing suit coverup Cons: - Parking might be rough on a busy day. Plan ahead - Elevator likely broken - can take the stairs if you're up for the cardio - Lots of market priced items on the menu - Seemed to be only half of the restaurant being used at the moment - Happy hour does not seem to be a thing unless I missed the menu for that This is a fantastic place to take your family and friends if you're in the area. Super cute old fashioned building with amazing views and superior seafood compared to what you'd get at your run of the mill beach bar. Can't wait to go back.

Angela B.

Yelp
This place is stunning! The views are absolutely amazing, right on the beach. We visited the day after the hurricane, so it was surprisingly empty, but I can imagine it being very busy. The food was excellent and reasonably priced--the grouper was thick and definitely worth it. We got our food within 15 minutes, and the staff was incredibly friendly. I would definitely come back!

Yelp
Just left Hurricanes. We arrived and was greeted and sat down outside. After about twenty minutes I had to get up and find a server as I was going to podium a server passed me on the way to the table. Our order was taken drinks, appetizers and entrees. Server was clear about putting in the order for the drinks and appetizers, so they would arrive first. 3 minutes later we get water 5 minutes after that our drinks arrived. 2 minutes later our entrees arrived. At this point I ask to speak to someone in charge. 4 minutes later a guy introduced himself as Bruno. I ask what his role at Hurricanes is? He tells me he's the Dishwasher. "Great go get someone in charge." He then tells me he's the manager and can help us. I explained what happened and as we're talking our appetizers arrive. He removes the entrees. Only to have the exact same sandwich returned to the table 15 minutes later. I ask the food runner to have Bruno (the dishwasher) come back to the table. The GM Russ comes to the table doesn't introduce himself and proceeds to blame us for not being clear when we ordered. He obviously had no clue what was happening. They did redeem themselves and comped the entire check. Bruno turns out to be the owner not the dishwasher. I walked across the street to the Paradise Grill and hab a wonderful meal and no one tried blaming me for how I ordered.

Yelp
We have been coming to this area in Florida for the past 13 years. This was the first time we stopped at this restaurant and it was amazing. The service was outstanding. The drinks were exceptional and we ordered the fish which was cooked superbly. We couldn't have asked for a better place to eat. We had the lobster bisque it was divine. We will definitely be hitting this place over and over again!

Larry G.

Yelp
Fun place with many tasty options. We have gone there 3 times in a week. Staff is very friendly and fast. We really enjoy the food. We will go back and recommend. The whole place has improved over the past 3 years.
google avatar

Jon B.

Yelp
View from the rooftop bar is unbeatable. Cold beer and fun atmosphere. But it was the Philly steak sandwich that prompted me to leave a review. They serve it just how I order in South Philly, with mushroom and provolone, grilled onions and red peppers. Emma at the bar kept everyone smiling in the sunshine. Nice to be back here, come on out and support the beach bars!
google avatar

Brandon D.

Yelp
So this was my second trip to The Hurricane and it wasn't quite as magical as the first time. The elevator was technically out of order, so there was a 3 flights of stairs journey to the rooftop bar. This wouldn't usually be bad, but with aging grandparents, it was a bit rough. And the once we made it up there, we were told there was a private event at 5:30, so we could really only get one drink before heading downstairs to eat. Fortunately we got a good sunset and were allowed to use the elevator to get back down. Lobster was on the menu and agenda. And while the lobster roll was good, it wasn't a "Baston lobstah roll", so there was a small measure of disappointment. It was basically just a decent portion of lobster with a single large toasted piece of bread served with melted butter. The grouper & gator bites were still excellent though. Service was great, as usual. But this just wasn't as good of a trip as the last time. Assuming they get the elevator issues resolved and maybe give warning of private events happening at the ground level, it's still a very worthwhile stop for food and a view.

Ronda L.

Yelp
won't find better grouper it was delicious. The service was very good. A very friendly staff that gave us an excellent experience. Nicely air conditioned dining and an after dinner visit to the rooftop for breathtaking views. A must when we visit Pass A Grille or St Pete.
google avatar

Jao S.

Yelp
The Hurricane was enjoyable and refreshing, the bang bang shrimp were delicious and the crab cake was better than expected to be honest
google avatar

Gary C.

Yelp
Right on ocean. There is lots of flare and seating outside in front and on roof (best view). We started with Gator bites (really small portions). My wife went with the grouper Po boy with Fries. While I decided to try the shrimp tacos with fries. This is a Military friendly restaurant. Make sure to check your recipe before paying!!!
google avatar

Johnnie C.

Yelp
It's been a long time since I moved to the mod-west and was excited to be back in Fl and enjoying an old favorite. Hurricanes has not changed a bit. Beautiful views, excellent food, wonderful service!

Margi B.

Yelp
Great Pass-A-Grille restaurant with great drinks, food and lots of history! Have outdoor, inside and rooftop dining.
google avatar

Yaimel N.

Yelp
Views are really nice, you can almost see all of st.petebeach, chairs were a little crowded other that the seating was nice. The food and drinks were very good Burgers are a little on salty side, fries and onion rings are bussssssin tho.
google avatar

Patricia F.

Yelp
Ate here on the recommendation of a friend and to him we say thanks. The World famous Grouper sandwich, blackened, was loved by my hubby. I had a bite and it was very tasty. I had the grouper nuggets and they were very bland. The onion rings were tasty but not as crisp as I would have liked. We wanted to eat upstairs for the great views, but the elevator was broken so no food was being served up there. We will be back because they have a fantastic lobster special that I am eager to try.

Yelp
Tonight was the fourth time eating at the Hurricane Seafood Restaurant. For an appetizer I started with the Boom Boom Shrimp. Nice portion served hot with Remoulade sauce on a bed of lettuce. Ask for extra sauce! For my meal I had the Ultimate Grouper Dinner grilled with french fries. The portion was larger than any other restaurant in St Pete. I prefer the grilled over fried or blackened. It was absolutely a struggle to finish off the grouper because the portion was so large and thick. My spouse had the grouper tacos grilled as well and it was delicious. I don't understand how this restaurant is not among the top 60 seafood restaurants listed on Yelp. Just my going back for the fourth time speaks volumes about how much I love this place. It is a hidden gem!

Frances R.

Yelp
Chris was so great! Drinks made to order and food was great! A must if you live here or just visiting

Misha B.

Yelp
Created my account just for this review. Service was extremely poor and portions were very small considering the prices. Food was served in a bag and plastic takeout containers, again, despite high prices and the fact that we were eating there. Not very eco friendly, as all that plastic gets TOSSED, not reused. Forgot ingredients from 2/4 of our entrees, and bar was so short staffed that we couldn't even get it corrected (since we had to order food where the drinks were also ordered-- insert 30 min wait time to stand in line and order!). Can't believe I tipped when I ordered following the food that was received. Any place that makes you tip before getting your meal-- beware! Total tourist trap and the staff know it and clearly don't care to provide good service as they already have your money.

Veronica M B.

Yelp
Food was excellent. The only thing about service was three times I asked for a lime for my Diet Coke and never got it. Sat outside looking at the beach. Nice breeze The Hurricane has always had great food and service
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for seafood and drinks. Beautiful rooftop looking at the beach. Very Romantic for all you lovers.

Yelp
My friend and I went for my birthday. I wanted to go somewhere near the beach. You are able to see the beach. It has a nice view. It isn't fancy, but it's a cute decor. You don't have to dress up. She and I sat outside. The food and staff were great. I ordered an alcoholic beverage. It was good. had calamari for appetizers. It was the best I've ever eaten. I had fish and veggies for dinner. I ended with brownie for dessert. My waitress sang happy birthday to me. She made me feel special. We were almost the last ones to leave. We felt bad because almost had left. It was closing tho. People had just left, but our waitress did not make us feel rushed. I highly recommend the restaurant.

Yelp
While visiting my mom and stepdad in Florida for the holidays, they insisted we come to the hurricane restaurant to try the infamous grouper sandwich. We came late on a Thursday night and had the place pretty much all to ourselves. Our waitress was extremely kind and engaging. Needless to say, we all ordered the grouper sandwich. It comes in two different sizes and you can get it either grilled or fried. After the recommendation of my parents, I decided to get fried. The sandwich itself was huge! I really wasn't too sure what to expect as I am not a big fan of fish sandwiches, but the grouper had nice flavor and was tasty. For my side, I decided to try their onion rings while my husband ordered their french fries. Again, tasty onion rings. We were too full at the moment to eat dessert, but we did take a slice of salted caramel cheesecake and Keylime pie home. The key lime pie packed a mighty punch. And the salted caramel cheesecake was decent. All in all, I can see how this would be a fun place to visit if you had friends in town or wanted to take in a beautiful sunset on the gulf.

Francesca D.

Yelp
What a great late night stop. We were some of the last patrons of the night but our server was fun and attentive. He told us they were known for their grouper, and the grouper paradise certainly delivered! Another in our group said his grouper sandwich was one of the best he had in years.

Mandy B.

Yelp
Sunset views and excellent service! We visited PAG for sunset views and our dinner choice was spot on. Not only only great view but great food! Shrimp tacos were a 10 out of ten. Pasta primavera also a 10! Thriving after hurricane hit the area- stop in and try it!
