Okay, so my sweet tooth was screaming at me even though it was 1 p.m. I asked hubby to go to our neighborhood donut place for a mini apple fritter. Thirty minutes later he returns. LOL He said our local place closed at 12 noon, but he found this place called Hurts Donut. He gives me this box with my apple fritter. I swear that thing was as big as a dinner plate! I said, "Honey, I said a mini apple fritter." Evidently, they don't have mini's but they have all different kinds of donuts! The apple fritter was delicious. It had the right amount of sweetness, crispiness, and apple-cinnamon taste. He said he thought they closed at 5 p.m. I was so excited to have a place open later than 12 noon.
We went the following day and found out THEY ARE OPEN -- 24 hour/day, 7 days a week!!!! My eyes bugged out looking at the selection. I was like a kid in a candy store. We had to let 3 people go ahead of us because I could not make up my mind! I'm supposed to be on a diet, but heck...it's a holiday weekend!
We decided on 6 donuts, 2 standard glazed, 1 Cookie Monster, 1 Key Lime, 1 Blueberry Streusel, 1 Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting.
My ratings - 0 the worst and 10 the best. The glazed donuts were really good (8.5/10). The ones my husband bought yesterday were better, maybe these weren't quite as fresh? Yesterday they were a 9/10. Cookie Monster is a blue glazed donut with chocolate cookie crumbles. It was a good donut (8/10). I did not like the Key Lime donut and hubby said he wasn't getting much lime taste. I could taste the flavor, but it was not a natural lime taste, and it wasn't tart like a key lime (4/10). The blueberry was a cake donut. Hubby didn't like it, but I thought it was good, it was an 8/10. It would be better if the streusel was a little crunchy for a different texture. The red velvet is also a cake donut. It was moist, but rather dense. The flavor was good and the cream cheese was DELICIOUS. I would give this an 8.5/10.
I will definitely be trying other flavors. Their website says they have 70 varieties, including gluten-free, and it looks like they are in various states!
