The Best Doughnut Shops in Dallas-Fort Worth | Eater Dallas

"Bring the kids — or let your inner kid out at the DFW outpost of this popular chain. Hurts is the kind of spot where wacky doughnut names are only topped by the piles of cereal, candy, and icing that decorate their products. Don’t like what you see? DIY doughnuts that incorporate all those over-the-top toppings are also an option." - Courtney E. Smith

While a cool premise, with interesting flavors of donuts, the service was subpar and the donuts tasted stale. The person helping with the orders was visibly irritated and low key rude. The donuts all tasted a bit stale - the s’mores one in particular. The vibes of the actual restaurant were neat, very urban, but I won’t be returning. There are much better donut shops in the area. There aren’t many donuts I don’t finish, but these weren’t worth the calories.

I was having trouble placing my order online, but David readily assisted me and even called me back. To let me know they could process my order now. He even informed me that they were out of strawberry milk and offered me an acceptable replacement of the same value. I got a lot of my favorites this time like the Cookie Monster style Donut and the Fruity Pebble style donut. I even found a new favorite, which is the Cosmic Brownie style donut! All of them are great like always though. I also tried the Maple Bacon bar for the first time, and oh man does that thing make your mouth water. It’s so good, and I’m glad I tried it. I got the last one they had at the time. I didn’t have a very good day, so I wanted some Hurts Donuts. Thank you for making my night better, the excellent service, and making it happen David!

Google
Came through during a trip and worked with them to do a special order ahead of time for some gluten free-ish donuts when we arrived (since they usually have them available weekends only in person). Very helpful, very easy, very delicious! ❤️ Thank you!

Google
Not bad but even if open 24 hours daily I wouldn’t advise visiting at night. Good very sweet yeast donuts and variations on cake donuts (e.g red velvet).

Google
An excellent variety of donuts. They are all very fresh the caramel apple donut was amazing.

Google
Yeah, the donuts were all right, but we got there around like 2 o’clock in the afternoon so they weren’t like fresh or anything but the ones we got were kinda oldish, but they were the last ones on the roller, but my daughter said that she liked her so it may have been just ours that we had because she said hers was fresh so and she really liked her so but the lady behind the counter was nice atmosphere was about what you’d expect with a donut shop at 2 pm so

Google
Went kind of late but still got to try great flavors. Our stomach hurt a bit hence the name 😂 but it was because we ordered a dozen for just 2 of us so we can try them all! Will definitely go back and recommend. I don’t like cakey donuts but they changed my mind with some of those 😋

Google
Went in after 2 pm. to see what donut selections were available. I told them it's my first time in their facility, and minimum introductions were made. A picture of their premium donuts for their half-dozen option wasn't explained - whether the '* 'or 'x' near the donut pictues was included or excluded. As for the donuts themselves, some flavors were more prominent than others (anyrhing chocolate, coconut cream, & maple bacon) . Others I could barely taste the flavor due to overpowering sugar content. In all, it was a nice experience, but I highly doubt I'll return.

Yelp
Hurts has donuts and kolaches dialed in. It's a nice regional chain that still feels local. The kolaches are actually something to look forward to. Each bite into the soft bread followed by the link was awesome. I felt guilty about some of their donuts, but not the kolache. Their kolaches are leaps ahead of that big ol' Bucc chain and their gas station kolaches. I can't speak much for their iced coffee. Maybe I got a bad batch, but it wasn't all too great. It seemed to lack actual coffee as it tasted watered down. However, all their donuts are worthwhile and so are the kolaches. They have classics. They have new takes. They also have extreme takes with bacon-stacked maple bars (GUILTY). Overall, it's a great stop.

Yelp
What's cool about this place is that the variety and creativity is insane with many options, the toppings are ample, the interior is very cool, and the store is open 24 hours a day. It's difficult to find donut joints that are open after noon. And, at least on paper, Hurts ranks among the top 100 donut shops in America (well, just barely at #100). What's unfortunate is that the donuts are dry and stale, and even their delicious frostings can't save them. It's just a disappointing outcome in a hip space with a pretty good concept that isn't very well executed. Admittedly, along this road trip of mine through Oklahoma and Texas, I happened to stop at five of the top 25 donut shops in the U.S., an unfair comparison indeed. But it is what it is. And all of those put Hurts to shame!

Yelp
$6.52 for two different "gourmet" donuts. Both tasted at least a day old if not longer. No freshness about either one. Both met their fate in a shopping mall dumpster a few minutes later. What a disappointment. This wasn't the first time but it had been a while and my memory is forgiving. Never again.

Yelp
I am a die hard donut person. I gravitate towards small shops rather than chains like Krispy or Dunkin.... HOWEVER, Hurts Donuts is the exception I am happy to make. They have such fun combinations and delicious options. I have ordered at the shop or uber eats. A knock out every time!! Even at 9pm, the donuts are moist and ready to enjoy. Recommended for donut or dessert lovers alike! You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
So many amazing flavors to try! We got the German chocolate and cinnamon cheesecake. Both fantastic. Highly recommend. Can't wait to try more!

Yelp
I came across this place late one night and it was open. This donut shop is open 24/7 with tasty donuts. The service was great. The server even offered to drizzle chocolate on my old fashioned donuts. The ambiance was of a typical donut shop. This place has so many types of donuts to choose from.

Yelp
So my daughter had just got out of the hospital after being there for a week and what does she ask for right after we leave OU Children's? Hurts Donut! We go and oh her disappointment... You would think cotton candy is not a hard commodity to come by but it does seem to be for Hurts. We have gone there a few times now and they are constantly out of cotton candy and their cotton candy donut tends to be very inconsistent. Sometime you'll see them with big globs of cotton candy on top, sometimes (my daughter's fave.) they will cotton candy flavored crunchies on top. Not this time....nothing; they didn't even taste like cotton candy. And since they claimed to be out of cotton candy my daughter, for the second time in a row, could not get the cotton candy donut milkshake which is what she really went there for. Which I don't really mind except for the "I don't care if you almost died" attitude from the girl working the register. She obviously did NOT enjoy her job or life, one of the two. I did tell her that my daughter was in the ICU for a week and this was where she wanted to go, thinking that they would be impressed by that but NOPE, didn't phase stone faced girl, she could care less. She said nothing to me, she didn't even look in my daughter's direction. When my daughter made a comment about them not having cotton candy AGAIN. She said "You can get something else." That was all the words she spoke besides my total. Which was almost $16 for three donuts!! So, I got my maple bacon donut that I usually get and we left. I just don't think we will go back. Even my daughter commented that they never have what she wants the the donut tasted like any other plain donut. Sad. And please train your staff to have some heart when they hear a child asked for them by name straight out of the hospital, at least give the girl a free donut or something since you consistently crush her hope of getting her cotton candy donut milkshake.

Yelp
I had such high expectations for these donuts. I don't know if it's because they looked really fun or because of the phrase hurts donut, which sounds like that game we played when we were younger where you tricked your friends and said " hurts don't it". I actually wanted to try these donuts for a long time and I got to try them finally! As soon as I walked in everything looked absolutely amazing. The inside had no customers, but there were glorious looking donuts in the clear glass cabinets. Which one or two should I get? I came here with a friend and we decided to each pick out two and we would try each other's! Perfect! I got a Cookie Monster and a s'mores donut, while my friend got the fruity pebble donut and the key lime pie one! On first glance these looked like the best donuts in the world! I wanted to try the s'mores donut first and as soon as I bit into it, it was like a dry desert storm in my mouth. Eek. Maybe another bite with the marshmallow will make this donut palatable? No, absolutely not. Ok let's try the Cookie Monster one! Not bad actually. My friend key lime pie one was the best. The fruity pebble one was gross too. The cereal on the top was super stale and not crunchy at all. They had so many donuts sitting back there and racks more behind the counter waiting to be put up and I just thought to myself, "that's probably why the s'mores one and the pebbles one were so dry"! From sitting out so long I guess? These donuts were not cheap by any means. For four donuts my total was almost $15! Are these donuts worth that? Not at all. Honesty I would rather eat donuts from Walmart than these. At least those donuts taste moist.

Yelp
Very good donuts. These are not regular donuts and you pay for the quality but think it is worth it.
google avatar

Leslie E.

Yelp
The donuts are the best. Coffee is bitter, and be sure to check the date on your whole milk. Very friendly and nice atmosphere. It wouldn't hurt for them to wipe down the tables. They are never clean every time I've been there.
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
While I had a hurts donut I had never actually been or knew the huge variety they offered. Going in the store brought back memories of when I was a kid and my dad would take me to the doughnut shop and I could see all the different kinds and my eyes would light up at the possibilities. That's how I felt going into the building and seeing that showcase. The wait staff was awesome and answered all of our questions. The donuts themselves were delicious. Very filling unlike many of the other donuts I've had in the past. Also my wife took advantage of if you purchase a shirt you get some free donuts. So don't forget your shirt too!

Yelp
I just found this place. Shocked I'd never had a donut from here yet. Incredibly unique donuts and organic coffee .

Paul S.

Yelp
Love their cinnamon rolls . Bought several of them to share with family. My wife likes extra glaze and they gave me extra for her.
google avatar

Eric K.

Yelp
Trash donuts pretty much everything other shelf is day old and stale even when they are fresh and taste like crap. The only good thing about this place is that they're open 24 hours so if you're drunk and you have the munchies at three in the morning go for it, but other than that, I would never go back.
google avatar

Robert A.

Yelp
Reminds me of a voodoo donut shop. Staff was nice and pleasant. Gave us the background on the place. Donuts were pretty good but nothing amazing. Lots to choose from but just cake donuts with different toppings like cereals.

Michael S.

Yelp
Stop in to grab a dozen for a morning meeting and get an assortment of basic frosted or glazed. $24 dollars for a dzn cake donuts? Makes Krispy Kreme look like a steal. Especially when they ended up being so hard and dry only one guy ate a whole donut. Now that hurts.
google avatar

Tim H.

Yelp
Donuts were underwhelming. They weren't particularly fresh, and there was nothing special about them. Okay at best. The coffee was terrible, ended up throwing it away. Just... nothing that would ever bring me back.
google avatar

Susan W.

Yelp
Love love love the glazed. Best in the city. My husband really likes the banana filled and all the unique donuts offered. The lady at the front counter was very nice

Justin B.

Yelp
Apparently you can only order donuts they already made in the morning. They will not make you a fresh donut. I wanted a Bismarck but was told to choose something else from the display, so I settled for a chocolate long John. It was cold, and several hours old. I payed $3 for a single cold and stale donut. I've eaten gas station donuts that were better. I'll be sure to tell everybody I know to eat elsewhere,
google avatar

Maria R.

Yelp
Omg if you are in OKC you have to stop by. Fresh is best but even later in the day these are a treat
google avatar

Tracee W.

Yelp
My husband absolutely fell in love with this store! He could barely choose these six. From the clever name, to the hilarious box warning about cross contamination involving garden gnomes, to the over the top toppings, he was delighted. I wish there had been more raised options, but that's me. Made our Saturday
google avatar

Carla S.

Yelp
Donuts here are delicious! Definitely for those with a sweet tooth, they're well made, fun & creative, and HUGE. Expect to spend more than at your average shop or grocer, but they're worth it. This place is an adventure in flavor! My hubby raved about his butterfinger donut, while I very much enjoyed my salted caramel (more of a dulce de leche). Kiddies just ate noisily which is donut eating speak for "yuuummy!". Their raised donut is a delightful mix of pillowy and chewiness. Cake donut is more dense and less moist than perfect, but you won't hear me complaining between bites. I also like the location on 23rd, where seating is plentiful and they stay open late. As I work, wife and mom fulltime, much of my day is too busy for donut runs. So I usually miss out as most shops close in the early afternoon. But nooot heeere :) (insert maniacal laughter). TIP: their most popular flavors sell out so arrive early!
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
We took friends in last night after a wonderful Vietnamese meal over in Little Saigon, and they (our friends) were anxious to go. Our little jaunt turned into a sugar-fest that all enjoyed. My husband had the Cherry Pie doughnut and a glass of milk; I had the Andes Mint donut (yummers!) and a maple-bacon long john that was simply marvelous. (Sweet, salty, and smoky all at once!) The others in our party had an equally good time on this, our little late night pig-out session. I purchased a bag of the Maple/Bacon coffee before we left; I'm seriously looking forward to making a great many pots at home. Such a nice place, and open late!
google avatar

Landis T.

Yelp
While I love all the flavor options, they never quite live up to their potential. This last batch purchased was pretty dry, like they were a day old. I want so much for this to be the best donut, but it never quite reaches expectations. Worth a try for sure, if you've never been, but there are always better options.

Astrid G.

Yelp
Why are you closed? Apple Maps says you're open. The lit sign outside says you're open. I know you're 24 hours because I'm a return customer. So why aren't you open? No one inside. Doors won't open. I can hear the phone ringing inside.
google avatar

Meagan G.

Yelp
Really cool location, building, and decor. Right now they have fun Halloween decs up! The idea here is solid, but I was a little less convinced by the product....even more so when I arrived at the register. A maple Long John ($2.00) and a Nitro cold brew coffee (4.00) totaled up to be ~$6.50 before tipping the really kind and pleasant cashier/attendant. Ouchie wowie. My donut just wasn't fluffy and honestly it seemed a little stale. I would give this place a second chance for sure, on a special occasion. The selection is impressive and the donut toppings are creative-- sure to bring hearts to a child's eyes. General prices: Glazed- $1.25 Specialty - $1.75 Dozen glazed- $10 Does not accept Keep It Local card /:

Yelp
Never fails to please, I love coming here when I'm feeling snacky! Little pricey but you get what you pay for!
google avatar

Jenna J.

Yelp
Creative concepts but the quality is inconsistent. We have been to Hurts a few times and ordered all sorts of fried pleasures - colossal cinnamon rolls, orange rolls, apple fritters and various donuts. Sometimes these items have been overcooked (almost burnt) and sometimes so undercooked, there has been dough in the middle. The larger items are particularly inconsistent. Although I like the creativity, I've tasted much better donuts. We still return, though, hoping our next visit will be on the money...because sometimes it is.
google avatar

Kristina S.

Yelp
I'm surprised I haven't reviewed Hurts yet...well here it goes. I'm not much of a donut fan nor do I go buy donuts often but recently I needed donuts and a special order so where else would I go other than the best donut shop in OKC. I have been to the Norman location but I think OKC is better. I ran into a little hiccup with my special order but Sara was amazing and made the entire experience easy and probably the best customer service I've ever seen. The cinnamon roll and the fritters are ginormous by the way and the prices are extremely fair. I plan on doing business with them ALL of the time and if you haven't been, definitely go check them out.
google avatar

Anna F.

Yelp
Novelty donuts are fun. They're cute. They're a mouthful of joy. If you're a fan of Voodoo Doughnut then you know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm not a cake donut fan, so I go with the non-cake options, but I appreciate the variety! There really is something for everyone. I like to think that the donut you choose says a lot about your personality, so it's really fun to see what people go with. If you want to be really extra, get the shake since it comes with a donut on top! It's really cool that Hurts opened in Uptown. I love seeing places like this bring the district to life!
google avatar

Anitra T.

Yelp
O. M. G you guys. These donuts are straight up sinful. There is something for everyone here. We thought we were brave enough to get through a dozen of donuts, but we were such stupid amateurs. Lol. The good thing is the donuts kept so well. So when day two rolled around and we wanted a sweet snack, they were there...calling our names. It was a fun spot for the kids and I would definitely go back. Thank God I no longer have to drive all the way to Norman.
google avatar

Colleene B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, funny name, tasty fresh donuts. Our son is constantly giving his Daddy a "hurts don't it?" So this place was hilarious and fitting.
google avatar

Rebekah G.

Yelp
So first I'd like to say i can understand some of the lower rated reviews and higher ones. I agree that sometimes the donuts can be on the dry side, it's kind of hit or miss. They are very sweet so I can do not take a quarter of one at a time, and the young gentleman that helped me yesterday wasn't the friendliest. However I do love coming and trying the different flavors, and I quite enjoy the lemon and the Jesus Cheesecake was super good! The German chocolate cake, the donut part was a little dry but with how moist and flavorful the filling was it wasn't the noticeable. I got a half a dozen and I think that averaged my per donut cost to about $2.66 which to some can be pricey but I really don't think so since you're not getting a regular donut and I've paid $4-$5 per donut at some other specialty places. So my ranking is split in the middle! Go and try it and see what you think! It could just turn out to be your favorite donut shop.
google avatar

Peter H.

Yelp
I stopped in to Hurts for a cinnamon roll this morning. They had one left. $8 for a cinnamon roll? Seriously? What was disappointing beyond the price was that it was only obviously from another day. The dough was like one or two day old bread, dried out and just not good. I tossed it out about halfway in. I will not waste my money at Hurts again.
google avatar

Ricardo J.

Yelp
I don't even like donuts and had my mind blown by this place. Vacation indulgence paid off. I hate wasted calories, and I can look back at this place with zero regrets. The Oreo Peanut Butter donut, old fashioned, and the maple bacon donut were on our tray. They all tasted great. The service rocked. The place has a great vibe and set up.
google avatar

Kristin F.

Yelp
The most kind young man was working behind the counter this morning at 645am! I couldn't decide on the flavors I wanted so I gave him free reign and he took the time to ask what they were for so he could choose some fun donuts. I've had the donuts before, they are good in small doses. Very sweet! But fun and tasty! Blueberry streusel is my favorite! Just wanted to boast on the young man working this morning! Wish I had gotten his name.
google avatar

Hollie L.

Yelp
Let's be real, who HASN'T heard of Hurts? But truthfully i thought they were over hyped and over priced. The donuts are beautiful and creative, there is no denying that. Taste wise? Pretty dry. Not that impressed. I've definitely had better donuts at local donut shops. But that's just my honest review. Staff is super friendly though!
google avatar

Ryker K.

Yelp
The donuts are so good! But I've never experienced this kind of price for donuts. It's so ridiculously expensive. The donuts are cute so I recommend coming here and checking it out:)
google avatar

Taryn K.

Yelp
I am not exaggerating when I say that I am slightly obsessed with Hurts Donuts. I mean, every member of my family owns one of their t-shirts (you need one by the way, you get a BOGO offer when you wear it in store!). Of all the donuts, the simple maple bar is my absolute favorite. A lot of donut shops butcher their maple bars by adding too much maple and it becomes overwhelming. But here at Hurts, they do it right. Aside from their delicious and quirky donuts (I mean come on, what's better than a donut covered in Fruity Pebbles?) this location is always hosting awesome and fun events for the whole family. A donut shop that celebrates Harry Potter's birthday as much as I do? Sold. If you want some seriously delicious donuts in a fun location perfect for family and friends, than Hurts is for you!
google avatar

Teaira J.

Yelp
I am a sucker for donuts but especially ones from this place!! You name it, they have it and then some. It's almost over whelming but I'm the beat way possible. My top two favorite donuts so far are maple bacon long john and red velvet cake donut. They are a perfect reward after a hard workout every now and then. Still have to tell myself no but when it's time to cave, Hurts it is! If you're interested you can see how they are made through a window in the back of the building. Like any other donut place, they're better fresh so don't wait too long to try one but then again a couple quick seconds in the microwave should do the trick.
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
Ok, they had a glazed donut! Yes, simple but they had one. The smell was so invigorating! It is fairly large inside. You can watch them make donuts which is fun to watch! I like this location better than the Norman location. They seemed to have more available, but in Norman's defense they are a smaller store. The donuts tasted great. I loved the themes they have. If you have a chance to go grab a donut here, do it. They are fun.
google avatar

Tunney C.

Yelp
Company is a a staple in Oklahoma. Selection is AWESOME!!! Don't see EVERYTHING you want?? Come back tomorrow! It will likely be there. Or, you can ask for a specialty and they will make donuts for you. They have regular donuts and HUGE donuts. They have regular and cake donuts. They have colors, textures, themes, and just about anything you can imagine donuts. It's a special place. Oklahoma is definitely NOT hurt to have Hurts Donuts! (See what I did there?? )

Yelp
I'm excited to have a 24 Hour donut Pace. I didn't realize how much I missed this until a few years ago. Living in Los Angeles, carb conscious capital of the world, you can always find donuts 24 seven. Now I'm most donut places are done by noon. And if you manage to get in before 9 AM, you're golden. After that it's slim Pickens. I took the hubby and the toddler to hurts donuts. We need to fuel up before our Saturday morning activities. The minute you walk in you can watch them make donuts. There was a massive vat of dough proofing on the counter. Once you loop on the inside it has that very Austin vibe. It's a perfect fit for Uptown. The donuts are huge. Capital HUGE. Huge. We ordered the homer. It looks just like the donut from the Simpsons. Pink frosting and sprinkles. The toddler spent most of her time picking the sprinkles off the donut. She really enjoyed it. I have the peanut butter and jelly. Peanut butter perfection and a dollop of perfect jelly. Amazing in every bite. The husband ordered the Boston cream pie. From the small nibble I got, it was every bit as good as a Boston cream pie. The custard filling was a mellow sweet which perfectly balanced out the rest of the glazed doughnut and chocolate sauce. We also ordered a strawberry filled doughnut. And a Keylime filled doughnut. Both had a sweet glaze an amazing fillings. Each donut was pretty hefty. You know the saying it eats like a meal. It surely does apply here. The location is great. Everything we tried was amazing. The counter contained a appetizing array of donuts that we can't wait to come back and try. Pricewise, it was a little bit high. But again you are getting a big donut. Packed with flavor. And an experience. In my book a great combination. And again 24 hours. So indulge your inner donut desires.
google avatar

Rose J.

Yelp
Arrived around 11am after morning rush. I had the cashier all to myself! The place has a very cool vibe, unfortunately it was my first time and I needed assistance. There are so many choices, it was a little overwhelming, so I opted for dozen glazed donuts. They were sold out, imagine that, so I got the blueberry strusel and the Jesus. Both were tasty but expensive for donuts. I guess that's what separates Hurt donuts from other places they specialize in bizarre, extraordinary, tasty donuts.

Rylee H.

Yelp
The worker was so rude and impatient. I went to pay with cash and she said she didn't have change for it when i saw in the drawer she did. Very much will not be returning. If I could leave 0 stars I would.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Exceptional. Fun, friendly atmosphere that is good for the whole family; friends' night out; or a topping off of a good meal at one of the many fine restaurants in the area. The menu is highly creative and I will likely go back until I have tried every single donut, as well as conquered the eating challenge. 3$ or so for very creative, different, and finely made donuts. I dig it. I had a fruity pebbles cheesecake donut. Could have used some more cream and perhaps more of a cheesecake consistency and taste rather than simply being called cheesecake in flavor, but I did highly enjoy it and think "of a cheesecake" when eating it; therefore I am still satisfied. Diets come here to die.
google avatar

Scott E.

Yelp
Hands down, the best sour cream donut ever....other gourmet donuts are more like mini works of art vs. cakes. This is a must visit!
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
For my first time at Hurts Donut, I went with a classic glazed raspberry filled donut. The donut was perfectly glazed, to the point where the "shell" was slightly crispy, covering a moist and fluffy interior dough. The filling itself was bursting at the seam and tasted as if it was made from fresh raspberries. My only regret was that it disappeared so fast. The price point was a bit high and the donuts could have been served fresh out the fryer, but this was an amazing dessert to top off my brunch. They even have a window where you can see all the donuts being made and an over-the-top recipe vault! I'll be back to try some of their other flavors!
google avatar

Cam S.

Yelp
The donuts are unique and the presentation is good. Music was way to loud. Staff was nice. Was clean. The flow of this place and ordering could be better. This place is definitely worth trying once. I personally don't care for how over-the-top the donuts are and I think this place is overrated. Donuts are already sweet but these seem too much. I would recommend Browns bakery over this place.
