Sad to leave this review, but the fact of the matter is, Saera gave me the worst and most devastating haircut of my life and it's completely unfixable. As I stare down the months it will take to grow out, I hope to prevent it from happening to anyone else.
As you can tell from her ig, Saera knows how to cut hair into a very distinct mullet-like-shag. Apparently, she will give you that haircut, even if you show her three image references of completely different, much less severe, layered cuts.
Saera arrived to her own salon late for my appointment and did not apologize. It happens, and she oozed confidence, so I didn't think twice about her lack of concern for my time or how little time she spent looking at the 3 images I brought and showed her after she asked what the plan was (1 photo and 1 video I showed her were cuts I knew very well, since they were of me). We discussed the issues with my current cut (a bit blah and uneven) and my difficulty finding a good hairdresser since mine moved during the pandemic. I mentioned the word shag because the video I showed her (again of me) was what my former amazing hairdresser had described as a relaxed/modern shag. Even though we were doing layers, I specifically told Saera I did not want super short layers or a cut that looked too 80s. She gave verbal confirmation she understood.
Then she got to work on the back of my hair. By the time she made it around near the front I started to realize what she had done and was in shock. Though shocked, I was simultaneously hoping for the best. This hairdresser appeared to know what she was doing so it couldn't be that bad. When she started to dry my hair, reality set in. She had destroyed my hair to the point where I was (and am) unrecognizable. The haircut could not be less flattering and as someone who has had good hair my whole life, she somehow made the opposite true. I can't put it into a ponytail or a bun (again something we discussed I do regularly at the beginning of the appt). I also can't pull it back or style it in any manner that looks appropriately professional for my industry, which is a dumb societal norm thing, but reality nonetheless.
The haircut us such an extreme departure from what I asked for and wanted that I feel massive stress and anxiety when I walk past a mirror or have to get ready to leave the house. Not only did she give me a haircut that was nothing close to what I asked for, the cut itself is bad. My forehead looks about 5 inches bigger, my bangs are lopsided and I have a strange layer of sideburn on one side.
I resisted writing this review for a few days because we have been in a pandemic, it has been hard out there, especially for hairdressers and I know miscommunications do happen at the salon. But when I let Saera know how I felt about the hair and expressed a desire to figure out how to fix it, Saera tried to gaslight me by claiming we had discussed the fact that the images I showed her were not in fact layered cuts, but curled to look that way. Even if this were true (essentially that I didn't know my own hair was not layered but curled to look that way), which it's not, why would an experienced hairdresser not ask for confirmation that a client wanted a cut that looks and is COMPLETELY different than the one in reference photos they brought? Why would she cut all of the layers so short (again mullet-like) when I specifically said I did not want that? It's an insane and honestly malicious thing to do. To add salt to the wound, Saera then took to her ig to make a passive aggressive post about the fact that many photos online labeled a "modern shag" are not actually layered cuts and to not be fooled. This is again without offering a refund or admitting she gave me a bad, unwanted, drastic and unflattering cut for no apparent reason.
I have to suffer through the awkward growing out phase of this cut, but you can avoid it - and my advice is to avoid this place at all costs.
