Bars and Nightlife in Phoenix

"A brewery with off-beat favorites like the Koffee Kölsch and Scottsdale Blonde. The beers can only be found in Arizona, and all are worth a try. The Tempe taproom has 24 beers on tap and features wine, cider, and a selection from other breweries, as well. There’s no food, but you can bring your own or order delivery." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Google
great little tap room with quite a selection of tasty brews on hand. I came here to fill my growler with something dark but apparently some of the peppermint flavor was lingering in the lines from a previous brew so the stout didnt taste right. I liked everything else I tried. and when I come back around the holidays to try the stout again and some brown cow I'm sure it'll get bumped up to 5 stars. Lady tending bar was awesome. really quick and very attentive. I should have tipped her more.

Google
We love going here. Tara is super awesome, beers are great. Better prices also on beer to go!

Google
Industrial area but did not detract from experience. Staff were great. Beers were very good. Had merch sale while I was there. Will definitely visit again.

Google

Google
Far & away the best tasting beers we had at over 1/2 dozen breweries we tried over a long weekend in the Phx area. In addition, the place had a super warm/inviting vibe. The Koffee Kolsch is absolutely one of the Top-5 beers I’ve had at any brewery in about 30 years of enjoying brewery beers. Will 100% hit this place again next time we’re in the local area.

Google
Friday night we experienced another amazing night because of Amber and her amazing hosting abilities. It's really fantastic that Huss keeps their bartenders around to keep long standing relationships with their guests. This is why I have loved the Tempe Huss taproom since 2017. I love that they honor their longtime beer tenders, its truly unmatched, I hope that they keep this culture going.

Google
We were visiting from Colorado and read great things about Huss, so we decided to give it a try. They had a great selection to choose from. Every beer we had was fantastic! My favorite was the rye IPA. Would definitely visit again.

Google
Had an awesome time at Huss thanks to Amber, the bartender! She was super friendly, knew the beers inside out, and her recommendations were perfect. Great service and a great vibe – Amber made the night even better!

Yelp
My brother in law told me about this place . Found a few of their beers at my local grocery store. Decided to stop in at the brewery today in Tempe. Great customer service great prices if you want to stock up. Definitely coming back here. Customer service was Top Notch. Great sitting area nice and open very welcoming ..

Yelp
Great service and cozy atmosphere in an inconspicuous location! They have a few games so you really get a living room vibe. Great beer selection and Huss does some delicious beer. Had the Belgian Blonde and the Nectrowave Haze IPA. Happy hour all day Sunday! Will be back!

Yelp
LOVE this place! My husband and I stopped in on the way from Tucson to visit some family. Wish I would've remembered the girl working this past Saturday.. LOVED her. She was awesome, great service, super friendly. I would've stayed longer just to hang out with her. The beer was great. And their merchandise selection is awesome! We ended up with a hat, two shirts and a tin tacker for the hubby's man cave. Will DEFINITELY be back next time we are in Tempe.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food, great beers, and free WiFi! I loved the chip trio and the stouts. The service was very attentive and I found cheap street parking nearby but they also validate for the garage

Yelp
Decided to check out the the Huss in Tempe. Been to the uptown one and I was in the area. It's a small taproom located in an industrial business center. No outdoor space but the inside is cozy for a small place to meet up if you want to talk to your party.
google avatar

Shelly H.

Yelp
Great selection, awesome beer and friendly staff! Retail selection wasn't great, but will keep an eye on their website for more merch!

Yelp
Been going to this location since they opened. Outstanding brewing and service. Stopped in Friday night before closing, was really impressed with Taylor and her customer service. She was very knowledgeable of the Huss beer selections. Every small business needs exceptional employees like her.

Yelp
First time here last evening after a long day. A friend recommended we go, so we did! I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. There was plenty of seating when we arrived at about 4:30 on a Friday afternoon. I'm a wheat beer gal. i don't like IPAs at all. There was a good variety here but I settled on the Hefeweizen. Glad I did! It was delicious and oh so smooth going down with a really interesting finish. (I had two and I'm usually a one beer person.) It was getting to dinner time and I was getting hungry. Be aware, there is no food service here. They offer bags of chips and containers of pretzels and nuts. Don't go here famished! Go for the great beer. My husband loves IPAs so I'm going to grab him and go next time we're in the mood for a nice glass (or two) of beer. Cheers!

Monica D.

Yelp
Great beers and great server, Sam was awesome as were the beers! Most definitely coming back.

Yelp
Super fantastic taproom with a large selection (10+) of in-house brews and a few "guest features" (~4). We came on a Friday night around 7:30pm - wasn't packed but felt very cozy. There's a variety of tables for 4-6 people, as well as bar seating. Flights are $7 for four 4oz pours. They had a pretty large selection of sour beers, barrel-aged, as well as some stouts. Our fave was the Orange Blossom, which we ended up getting two 6-packs of (for $9 each!!). Ask for samples!! No food served, but you can bring your own. A few games, but overall everyone is pretty friendly. Also, pretty good happy hour specials!

Yelp
**This review was drafted but I guess I forgot to post, so I'm reviewing my visit from about a month ago** Anyways my boyfriend and I went in as soon as they opened and we were warmly greeted. The beer-tender was super sweet and the beers were great. We got a beer flight and finished up with a couple full size drinks. I like the smaller breweries like this one because we aren't really "crowd people", so it made us feel comfortable.
google avatar

Dang N.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times now and not only is the beer really solid, but really cheap. I got four 4oz tasters last time and it only cost me $7! That's just bonky. Really needs to be a regular stop for me here in the Phoenix area.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're in to quality handcrafted beers from a hometown brewery I can't recommend more of a place to go to. Tempe brewery is a small and great place to hang out and sit back / relax and have some great beers
google avatar

Craig B.

Yelp
Small and no atmosphere, but they had at least 5 beers exclusive to this location. I sampled most of them and would definitely recommend giving this place a shot. The doppelbock was outstanding (Abv 8.5). Maybe the best I've had.
google avatar

Fernando J.

Yelp
Flight of beers!. Small spot in an industrial area but highly recommend. Yelped breweries after leaving Costco and to my surprise this little spot popped up. Perfect little watering hole

Yelp
Huss Brewing is a high-quality local beer brewing company. Having been on tour of their operation, I can attest that they use good product, think smartly, and craft their beers for best taste. The brewing room is an offshoot of their manufacturing plant. You'll get great service, case discounts, and opportunities to taste some great beers!
google avatar

Yelp
Always a good selection of beer, service is fast and friendly. I'm a fan of industrial complex breweries, so they had a leg up to start. If they could figure out a patio space for nice weather this place would be perfect!
google avatar

Kaysha R.

Yelp
I was instantly reminded of Seattle craft brewery hangouts when entered this little nook, immediately noticing the patio chairs right in front of the entrance where a couple lounged comfortably, pint glasses in hand, deep in conversation. No food, no fuss, just a row of bar stools and arm chairs with dining table style chairs, much like you might have in your own home. I LOVED the beers. I opted for a light flight without IPA's and ended up with the Blonde, Amber, the famous Koffee Kolsch and American Lager. Usually Coffee anything beer is quite heavy, but this little Kölsch packs a powerful coffee flavor that you can smell long before you even begin to taste your flight. I'm in love. I wandered in on a lazy Saturday afternoon and was immediately greeted by a friendly bartender and a fun and friendly crowd of beer tasters. One family even brought their kids along. I brought my laptop to get some work done while I sampled, because well, what else is a girl flying solo for the afternoon supposed to do as she samples the local craft brews? So yes, there's free wi-fi, a good sized parking lot and it's nestled back off the beaten path for a relaxing hangout away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Yelp
Comforting to find a straight up brewery lost in the sea of brew pups that is Phoenix. Family owned with a friendly staff. Honestly one of the cleanest tasting rooms I've ever been in. Good beer. Nice mix of styles, fair prices. About 10 house brews and an equal number of guest taps. If in the hood, swing by.
google avatar

Jennifer O.

Yelp
This is a great little tap room to try a variety of tasty beers and hang out with friends. Worth a try for sure!
google avatar

Leia F.

Yelp
A business district brewery. Nothing fancy. Beer was ok. Service ok. Snacks available but no food.
google avatar

Lynnette G.

Yelp
Super cute taproom for local beers and great service! Definitely off the beaten path in a strip mall, but worth the visit. They had about 20 beers on tap with some guest pours available as well. There isn't any food (darn!), so plan accordingly, but you are able to bring in food or order delivery. A few TVs for watching football and generally clean/organized space with board games for entertainment. I'd recommend starting with a flight of all Huss beers so you can try everything and take home a growler for later!
google avatar

Tyson T.

Yelp
Small taproom in south Tempe but amazing beers. I usually get the Papago orange blossom but I went with the Coconut Joe stout. I generally don't like dark beers but the stout was very smooth and easy to drink. There's no kitchen for food but you can bring your own stuff to eat.
google avatar

Paul K.

Yelp
A nice little place to grab a great pint and chill with locals! The coffee kolesh is on point! Friendly staff and extremely chill environment!

Yelp
Huss is my absolute favorite Arizona brewery. Their venue is nice and inviting and I love the jars they serve their beers in (I own several now!!). Huss has an amazing assortment of brews for all tastes, but a few of my favorites include the Rice Pudding Porter (nice depth of flavors with a hint of spice at the end..not too heavy at all), the Hussler (really tasty milk stout, buttery smooth) and the Koffee Kolsch (literally my favorite light beer out there...has an incredible creamed coffee flavor yet maintains a light body). If you like the flavor of the coffee kolsch, but crave a creamier, more substantial body, then try a mix of the Hussler with the Kolsch. The heavier you want it, the more stout you add. I like to do 25% Hussler and 75% kolsch...really good. If you're not sure what you want, you could always do one of their awesome flights! The hardest part will be deciding which beers to go with as they are all awesome. Once you do choose a favorite, definitely pick up a growler! Mine rarely lasts longer than an evening...just too good. They also recently acquired Papago, another of my favorite breweries. Their Orange Blossom Wheat is exceptional!!! The brewery may be hard to find (its tucked away in what can easily be mistaken for an office space) but once you do, you won't wanna leave. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Beer: 3.25 Ambiance and Service: 3.5 (bit boring for me) The raving reviews for Huss Brewing I think are exaggerated. Huss Brewing mustered a solid "OK", but certainly doesn't rise above mediocrity as a craft beer brewery. Beer (3.25) We tried three drinks: the That's All IPA (a Western style, the hoppier of the two), their milk stout, and their coffee Kolsch. The first two where rather nondescript--while they did deliver on the expected flavors of the style, I certainly wouldn't pick them out of a lineup. Didn't feel like they brought anything to the table. Didn't enjoy the coffee Kolsch. It smells strongly of hazelnuts and stale coffee (which, to be fair, isn't an unpleasant smell). But I was disappointed to sip and find that the hazelnuts were superficial and really didn't permeate the drink as the scent suggested. Darn shame, I love hazelnuts. Ambiance (3.5): There's a fine line between homey and boring. I'm a little on the fence about this one, because I tend away from the homey side. If you like that sort of thing, you'd probably like their style. I will give them that their service is excellent. Our bartender was delightful.

Yelp
Since Huss Brewery is in a business complex, it makes me jealous of the people that work nearby. I'd love to grab a beer here everyday after work! I'm currently submitting resumes to the businesses in the same complex as Huss. So far, no one wants to hire a booze connoisseur with an affinity for online shopping during work hours but hey, when this girl dreams, she dreams big. The beer selection was excellent and I'm excited to try the Huss beers when they come out which I hear is in the next month. This place has free wifi and the perfect set up to get work done over some delicious beers or even a study group...if you can still focus after a few high gravity beers. Congrats Jeff & Leah!

Yelp
Huss brewing is a wonderful little brewery off the beaten path. The beer is one of my absolute favorites since moving from New Mexico. SO MANY OPTIONS! Although small, the little tap room is light, comfortable, and family friendly. There's tons of games to help keep little ones occupied while you enjoy a pint. Service is always fast even when they're slammed, and is always super friendly. They're delicious beers range all the way from a blond to a stout and everything in between. If you're hungry, I suggest bringing your own snack as I've only seen a food truck here a couple of times. Overall one of my favorite little spots in Tempe.

Yelp
I'm actually shocked I've never written a review of this place. I stumbled across this place from a yelp search and I've been coming back ever since. The brewery is a non descript area of industrial building and apartment complex. Use you GPS or you will be lost. It's a small place with a bar and a. Inch of wacky mixture of second hand tables and chairs. This place is a local hangout for sure. You will often find people playing games with the bartender. Conversations are always lively and fun. Beers are all great. There go to IPA is That'll do it at 7.1% which is the house beer. They always make seasonal beers and try new projects which is always fun to try. Latest beer seasonal include Ro sham beaux a double IPA has cites hops and sports an 8.4% alcohol level. They also make another imperial IPA called swole. It used to be called big red but the name never stuck. This is more malty with less bitterness and same 8.4% alcohol so the big boys are strong. I like the Ro better because it's more classic ipa much more hoppy and less sweet but they are both really good. They used to do yoga classes on Sunday's where you get a beer after class. Never did that but it sounded fun. They say they are now too busy brewing beer. The T's here are pretty lame with names like Abraham Lincoln thins may come to those who wait but only the things left by those who hustle. Sorry a pass:) Go here it's so much fun...

Yelp
I've been here many times before and finally decided to take some pics and post them to yelp! They always have great beers on tap and I have never had bad service! Everyone is very nice and they have a GREAT happy hour! $6 pitchers, wahoo!! You'd never know it was tucked back there but I definitely recommend any beer connoisseurs (or anyone who likes to check out new places) to check it out!

Yelp
I arrived on a Saturday night ready to try those renowned Huss brews, meandering through the side streets until I came upon the brew warehouse. To some, this setup may seem odd for a brewery. However, being from So Cal, I have grown to know it as the norm. Upon entering, you notice both the massive size of the actual brewing space and the homey feel to the drinking area. TVs like the corners with tables around the room for groups. The bar has many seats and I was able to find an empty one without a problem. Now onto the brews. My absolute favorite was the Coffee Kolsch, which is ironic as I absolutely hated all things coffee growing up. Something about this beer and coffee blending makes it absolutely heavenly. When I drink it, I tend to remember this tin sign I once saw--"Beer: it's what's for breakfast!" I seriously would consider such a notion! I also enjoyed That'll Do, Huss' signature IPA. A perfectly refreshing combo of hop quality and malt character. With these great beers and stellar hospitality, I will be back for sure!

Yelp
I am SOOO excited I found this place thanks to a friend. It is a quaint little place near my neighborhood with a fresh and cozy atmosphere! From what I can see they serve all craft beer, and the service is personable! It is truly a hidden gem with decent prices and delicious brews!! They've got a few different tables set up with a couple tv's and board games - again, very laid back. It is bright in there, so it is not a dim hole in the wall. I'm most looking forward to Sunday yoga and post yoga brews!!!! You gotta check it out to get in the know...

Yelp
After checking out an Angels Spring Training game, we grabbed a few beers at Huss. It's a small little tap room with a few tables, couches and bar seating. Beertender made us fell welcome. In terms of the beer, they lean heavy on their Coffee flavors which I heard a lot of compliments on. I tried the Kolsch that tasted like a Thin Mint Cookie which was pretty interesting. Beers though are fairly inexpensive. Cool place to come to.
google avatar

Lynn B.

Yelp
Stopped in foe a beer. Had a flight to taste a few of the selections on tap. Wasn't disappointed!
google avatar

Alyse H.

Yelp
So it's actually been over two years since we stepped foot in the Huss taproom because they went through a long stretch where they didn't come out with anything new and their tap list was populated more with guest beers than with their own. A few times we even walked in, looked at the tap list, and walked out. It seems, though, that they have overcome that stagnant period and have begun to create delicious beers again. Their tables are all well spaced and the bartender kept constant track of the number of people inside so as to not overload it. The tap list was long and full of Huss beers I hadn't heard of before. I thoroughly enjoyed the Cactus Valley Amber and hubby loved the Hopaloosa Hazy IPA. They have affordable prices on pints, even when it isn't happy hour. Their pitchers are also priced well. Their merch selection has a ton of options, and of course we had to leave with new Huss shirts!
google avatar

Virginia B.

Yelp
My Hubby and I moved our son back to college and we were exhausted and just wanted to sit and have a great beer. We found Huss and we were pleasantly surprised! They were very safe and made sure everyone was following the COVID rules. We got a $6 Mini Pitcher to share and we could watch some basketball. It was great, we could almost pretend things were normal. We love that it is a family run small business and we look forward to supporting whenever we come to visit our son! We even bought a little mercy to represent back in Cali!
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
The. Best. Brewery. In. Phoenix. Bar none!! They have a great selection of their own and other local beers. This includes the AMAZING Coconut Joe stout, which is my new favorite beer. So drinkable. They also have $5 pitchers during happy hour. That can't be beat! Only downside is no food but you can always bring in your own or get something delivered. I highly highly recommend stopping by!
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
There's a reason this place basically has 5 stars...It's a hidden, underground brewery/tasting room that makes you feel like you're part of a secret society when you enter. It's such a simple layout, and the location seems strange at first, but once you're there, it feels so right. Lots and lots of beers! My favorites are Orange Blossom, Koffee Kolsch, and Coco Joe, but there is something here for everyone. They don't serve food...it's all beer, but you can actually bring your own food or get delivery from somewhere else. There's usually 1 server, but that's all you need because they take such great care of everyone in the room. Order a shirt, play some games, and just enjoy some Huss beer!
google avatar

Clare Marie K.

Yelp
Fun and inviting brewery. Cute atmosphere, great beer and a good place to just hangout.

Yelp
Off the beaten path in an industrial setting. Just the brewery and no food. I had the orange blossom heffe beer and gus had the bourbon flavored stout. I like mine but he's not crazy about his. Lots of great reviews but not for us. Mostly people hanging and playing games. Very quiet for a Friday night.

Yelp
Basis for my starred ratings (which skews heavily to the food or drink): 1 star: Never again. 2 stars: Poor food, poor experience, extraordinary measures in order for me to come back. 3 stars: Average, nothing really special, nothing particularly bad. 4 stars: Very good, would definitely return. 5 stars: A favorite, one of the best. One of the better breweries here in the Valley and one of the best small breweries I've been to in the country, that being based on their beer selection and the quality of that beer. The place is small and cozy. There are less beards here, more board game geeks, which is great. Variety is good. The semi-industrial strip mall area its locate at is less than stellar but not a big deal. They don't serve food, which is a minor disappointment, but you can bring in your own (with the problem being there isn't much in the immediate vicinity) or order in. On to the beer. I will start with the absolute best. The Koffee Kolsch and the Husstler milk stout are excellent, excellent beers. Really outstanding. There are other exemplary milk stouts out there that are equal, the Koffee Kolsch is without peer at this point for me. The Scottsdale Blonde kolsch and That'll Do IPA are fine. Good, solid beers that are easy to drink. One word about the rice pudding porter. I love rice pudding. I love porter. I thought I was going to absolutely love this. I don't want to judge it too harshly based on expectation, but . . . this beer got crushed under the weight of my expectation. It's fine, but just lacked the body, mouth-feel, and richness I was expecting. it is a decent beer, just not a superlative porter. What I'm really hoping for? 2 or 3 more breweries to open right in this area to make it a beer destination. Easy for brewery hopping. Food trucks coming in to serve them all. I think business development-wise, that would be a homerun.

Yelp
Cool spot. Friendly service. Good beer. Feels like you are hanging out at someones house. Just chill. I ran into a friend while i was there. Had a great evening. Went for happy hour.

Yelp
A great place to sample Huss with a 4 beer flight or just pick out your favorite and order a pint. The have a few TV's with sports and there is also cold 6 packs available to go. They close kinda early so check hours before you head over there. Staff is friendly and the crowd is a nice mix or people from all walks of life. My favorite is the Koffee Kölsch my second favorite is the Scottsdale Blonde. They also offer seasonal beers and a few from other breweries. A great place to stop after a hike or bike or South Mountain. Treat yourself you deserve it.
google avatar

Zac B.

Yelp
Small tap room in industrial complex, suprisingly empty and easy to park on a sunday afternoon. Plenty of beer to choose from, they have something for everyone, i believe there was about 20 beers on tap and even more in cans so bound to find something you like. Great staff, super friendly and willing to talk beer, had some good conversations with other patrons as well just a general friendly place. Lots of swag to choose from, picked up a few things and kinda wanna go back to buy more. Worth stopping in if in the area.
google avatar

Simcha M.

Yelp
Love the Huss taproom and great staff! Their brews are fresh and carefully created and their merchandise all is such cool designs!! A nice, clean and fun spot for after work drinks with friends.
google avatar

Yelp
1st. time in there today wife enjoyed a couple flights and myself water. Everyone in the place was friendly. We will be bringing friends back to enjoy a few beers.
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
Ummmm Beeeer! Great local beer, I believe to be the best brewery in Arizona. Many beers on tap some are constant others are seasonal. The Coco Joe is a new one that's very good. This is a laid back place great for a small group of friends or having a drink alone. Don't leave without a growler - great price!
google avatar

Yelp
It seems like all of my reviews are bars and breweries lately. Huss is a local brewery that that opened in August 2013. I have had some of the beers around down at local bars. The Rice Pudding is typically a hit, the Sunday Funday, the Southern Hussy, and the That'll Do! IPA are all good. Magic in the Ivy is named for the Chicago Cubs and I enjoyed that one too. I finally set out to find the source and visit the brewery recently. It is located in a building that used to be Rio Salado Brewery. It is described as South Tempe, but it is tucked away down a side street off Priest Road and just a street or two away from Guadalupe. The bar area is small. There were a only a few seats at the bar, but there were some tables elsewhere. Still, on a weekend or a release day I imagine seating will be very challenging. I went specifically to try the Rise of the Rio, a Schwarzbier that was made to pay homage to Rio Salado Brewing which specialized in the style (and as I mentioned previously operated from the building). It was excellent and I definitely recommend it. I noticed also on tap was a barrel-aged Snowbird Imperial Stout. That was exceptional. Nice bourbon smell, but not over powering. Definitely smooth. Both beers totaled $13. I definitely plan on returning soon and getting a growler of the Snowbird ($22) before it is gone. Definitely check this place out and support the local breweries.

Yelp
This place surprised me, and I am so glad I located it. I am giving it 5 stars as the best in the Phoenix area, but not yet on equal footing with other 5 star breweries in Portland, San Diego and Colorado. But way so much better quality than other Phoenix area brews I've been served (e.g. Four Peaks and San Tan brewing). * The tasting room/brewery is an industrial park setting (all good breweries have this quality). * The tasting room was pretty large with lots of seating which was great. * They offer flights of their own brews served on a cool "lazy susan wheel", and cost for a flight was super reasonable. * They offer interesting guest micro-brews to try out as well The house brews I tried were all good quality. My tasting notes are below (your mileage may vary): * That'll Do IPA - their first IPA and very traditional tasting West Coast IPA flavors... very good. * Magic in the Ivy - is a hoppy ale, not really an IPA, but the hops give it a good flavor and very sessionable at only 5.6% ABU * Amarillo IPA - not as good as the That'll Do, but fresh tasting * Das Alt Folks - is an Alt Bier / Amber, which was easy drinking and new craft beer drinkers should start with this one Scottsdale Blonde - is a Kolsch style light beer.... easy drinking for the light beer fans * Rice Pudding Porter - this was one of my favs.... has some good flavors with vanilla, but with the cloves it makes it more of a one pint experience for me compared to other porters. * Snowbird Imperial Stout - has a strong high alcohol kick to it at the end, like a whiskey barrel taste. Good for a winter warmer, but beware of this one as it is 9%+ The bartender/owner was super cool, and I like that they have a good relationship with Mike Hess brewing from San Diego (Hess + Huss both equal good beer). I hope they do a collaboration brew some time. No food, but they normally have a food truck outside ready for you.
