"Rockville’s Hwa Gae Jang Tuh offers tabletop grilling for meats like bulgogi, marinated short ribs (galbi), and pork belly. The menu includes dishes like japchae (sweet potato noodles) and mandu (dumplings), too. Book one of two party rooms for private events." - Tierney Plumb, Emily Venezky

"It doesn’t get much more homey than budae jjigae, also called army stew. It’s a “throw-everything-in-the-pot” kind of meal, featuring anything from hot dogs to noodles to baked beans. The version at Hwa Gae Jang Tuh is classic, filled with ham, tripe, noodles and veggies." - Hanna Nakano

Google
Really authentic Korean cuisines, they have huge menu selections, BBQ and other dishes. It came with lots of delicious cold appetizers! They even have the special marinade raw crab, absolutely delicious, just have to prepare some probiotics afterwards.

Google
Amazing Korean food with huge portions and authentic flavors! The dishes were fresh, delicious, and came with plenty of banchan. The jajangmyeon here is absolutely delicious! The noodles are perfectly chewy, and the black bean sauce is rich, savory, and full of flavor. If you’re craving authentic and satisfying jajangmyeon, this place is a must-try!

This seems to be a "real Korean" restaurant. There is a menu full of interesting choices. There is a lot of food with whatever option you choose. I went for lunch. There was a "lunch special." But, there wasn't anything special about the lunch menu prices. It was priced like any of the dishes on the regular menu. The service was nothing special as well. There were some older ladies working there who greeted me enthusiastically. But, they mostly disappeared after that. I reviewed the menu and waited longer than I wanted to place my order. I kept it simple with a Bibimbap. I've had many in my life. This one was OK. I've had better. It came with a bowl of rice and four (4) Banchan. Banchan are side dishes of vegetables. Those were good. I like the idea of Banchan. I ate my food. No one came to ask me if it was good, or if I needed anything. I finished and waited for too long for the bill. Finally, I stood up and signaled to one of the ladies. I didn't want to wait any longer. I got my coat and walked over to the cash register. I really did not think that a tip was deserved. I would go back to try some other things.

I almost never post any surveys because i also work in the industry and understand how hard this job is. I do my best to give grace but occasionally something is really just wrong. I came here to have cold noodles and half way thru eating i find a fruit fly in my noodle. Its not big, i got it. I let the ladies know, they look at it; and told me “maybe you are eating then it fall in”. ????????? What type of service is that???? I didnt ask for refund or replacement, i just want you to know there is bug in my food! I paid in full and left. Never coming again.

Google
This place was amazing. Their sides were very good. Food serving size and taste were also good. Their staff doesnt speak a lot of english so if its your first time eating kbbq you might have some trouble. But everything was good when we ate here. Definitely coming back

Google
This place offers very decent and delicious Korean food of all kinds, and it opens till 9:30 pm. Kitchen closes at 9 pm. Highly recommended. Will be back.

The only thing that was good was a side salad. Very pricey. Korean bbq portion per person was small compared to other Korean bbq restaurants. Terrible service. There were only three servers on a busy Saturday evening when the entire restaurant was packed. I would rather drive to VA to get Korean food.

Google
Korean Restaurant with ample menu and quality food that is genuinely Korean that tastes like home (versus fusion). I usually get bbq here (priced per portion) and the quality of the meats is superior than an AYCE place. The side dishes are also more higher quality and tastier than the chain AYCE restaurants. Ex, Korean raisin & potato salad, spicy seaweed salad, tasty fermented radish, and marinated bean sprouts. The service staff are very nice and cook your bbq at the table. I usually provide at least a 20% tip when I order bbq as they are literally cooking the meat at your table and provide side dish refills. There are also non BBQ standalone dishes and soups. I like their Kimchi stew as it hits home with ample ingredients. They also have non spicy stews such as dumpling and rice cake soup. I also like that they serve hot barley tea vs. just iced water. If you are adventurous they have soy sauce marinated raw crab which is a delicacy. They also have Korean Chinese staples such as Jjajangmyun black bean noodles or TangSuYook sweet and sour pork.

Yelp
Spacious and clean restaurant. The seafood pancake was excellently crispy and had a good ratio of seafood to batter 8) Fried dumplings were also very very crispy (in a good way) but the filling was not as amazing as I expected, didn't see any greens :( The haemul jungol was delicious with lots of pieces of seafood :D It comes with tofu as well as udon noodles and the soup is clean with a slight kick. Would definitely recommend! The service is pretty standard, I wouldn't come here expecting a lot of attention and smiles but the food is worth :)

Yelp
The Hangar Steak and Kalbi was good. Tongue was tough. My parents, wife and I ordered two Hangar steaks, 1 bone in Kalbi, one tongue, two Terra beers at $14 per bottle and two bottles of Chamisul classic. I don't eat rice because of Type 2, so I eat kimchi. After the 2nd request for kimchi refill, they told me "must pay for more kimchi". Never, in the US, Korea or even Korean restaurant in Japan, have I run into pay for kimchi refill at an a la cart KBBQ! At first, I thought the first waitress, who seemed to serve my family with disgusted animosity, was lying, but then the nice one, later said the same thing. Mean one pictured below.

Yelp
I used to come here often. I like the non-kBBQ menu items more. We came for Mother's day. It was okay. Service itself was really good. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Not sure I will be back anytime soon though because there are better places for Korean noodles. The kbbq was just okay. Not very flavorful bulgogi and very dry. The galbi was okay. The pork belly was dry. The banchan was good though. Bossam was cut way too thick. Oysters that came with it were bad. Close to $400 for 5 people.

Lyann L.

Yelp
Good galbi and bolgi. Seafood pancake was ok. Soondu clam soup was good. My number one prob is the service. Not the nicest waiters. Felt a little discriminated. But food is otherwise good.

Yelp
Accepts both cash and credit card. Free parking in the shopping center. Tight parking spaces in the shopping center so keep that in mind. We came here and ordered a few dishes from their spicy seafood noodle soup, mild tofu seafood soup, beef brisket and beef bulgogi. For the two soups, they were decent. Full of flavor and decently priced. Our entrees came with the small side dishes which were good. However, the beef bulgogi and beef brisket were $28.99 each so we were expecting tons of bbq for the price. However, we were disappointment with the portion size. The beef brisket, once cooked, only fit in a small plate which indicates how small portion it was. The beef bulgogi was also small too. Felt as if we were given a smaller portions for the small size compared to other tables. The staff here were very busy on a weekend evening, but were friendly through most of our visit. I will definitely return for the soups and side dishes. However, it will have to be a hard pass for the bbq. Overpriced and underwhelming.

Yelp
I came to Hwa Gae Jang Tuh Korean BBQ with my family on Saturday afternoon. The restaurant is located in a shopping center with a parking lot shared with multiple retailers. We had four adults and one child in our party. We did not make reservations ahead of time, but were seated immediately upon arrival. There were a handful of other guests already dining inside when we arrived. I ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap which comes with beef, various veggies and a fried egg all served over rice in a stone pot. I like to leave the rice sitting and unstirred once it arrives to the table for a few minutes. It really cooks the edges of the rice to a crisp, adding a nice crunch to the bowl. The veggies were perfectly shredded and came with a large variety: seaweed, carrots, cucumber, radish, mushroom, etc. This was one of the best I have had, this is usually my go to at Korean restaurants to order. Overall, the staff were attentive and even kindly refilled the complimentary banchan dishes that they saw we were enjoying the most. The food was delicious, a little pricey... but I think it was worth it since the ingredients were fresh. I would definitely recommend this spot and will be back again soon :)

Yelp
Well isn't Hwa Gae Jang Tuh a little hidden gem on Viers Mill! Nestled in an unassuming strip mall off Viers Mill Road, this Korean haven is not just a restaurant--it's an experience. As I stepped into the unpretentious exterior, I quickly realized that this place was about to redefine my dining expectations. Perfect for groups, the atmosphere was lively yet cozy, making it an ideal spot for a night of new food exploration with friends. Our journey began with the Dukbokki rice cake bathed in a tantalizing spicy sauce and the seaweed salad--each bite a burst of flavor that set the tone for the evening. The highlight of our evening was the Hadolbagyi Gui, thinly sliced beef brisket served with a sesame sauce. Not only was it delicious, but the interactive aspect of assembling lettuce wraps added an extra layer of fun to our dining experience. Mixing and matching the dishes was truly an adventure. But it didn't stop there. Our taste buds were further treated with the LA Galbi, grilled beef short ribs, and the irresistible pork belly that we simply couldn't stop indulging in. Whoever thought that BBQ without the sauce could be this delicious? To accompany our feast, we opted for a drink that arrived in a beautiful blue bottle--some flavored concoction that may have been sake. Ooooh it went down easy, and ask for the peach flavor (or maybe don't; you're sure to get toasted). A special shoutout to the attentive staff who made our evening unforgettable. They not only ensured that our dishes were strategically spread across the table for easy access but also extended their hospitality, making us feel like welcomed guests rather than mere patrons. Despite being the last to leave, there was no rush or hint of impatience from the staff, a rare gem in the bustling world of dining. In conclusion, if you're seeking a KBBQ adventure that goes beyond the ordinary, this place is a must-visit. Prepare to be enchanted by the flavors, the ambiance, and the welcoming staff. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Your culinary adventure awaits!

Yelp
The service was fine as I ordered my meal to go but the dish I ordered (spicy squid) was not spicy and very bland. Every other Korean place I've gotten this dish from has yummy vegetables with the squid and it's spicy. The staple of Korea, kimchee had a taste that was a bit suspect. I noticed it as I was getting closer to the bottom of the container. All in all it was not worth the 40+ dollars I spent for my meal. I would definitely go some place else if you want authentic Korean BBQ.

Min Z.

Yelp
We used to come here and the food was great. We ordered some of our old favorites dishes, but we were disappointed. Maybe a different chef. 3*Khan Poong Sal-Crispy boneless chicken smothered in sweet & spicy sauce: it used to the best dish, but we were very disappointed this time. Nothing seemed right, the sauce, the chicken, or the taste. It ruined the meal for me; I'll probably think twice before I come back. 4*Soondubu Jigae-Spicy tofu stew. Tofu was tender: a good soup. 2*Shrimp Tempura: the shrimp were small and mostly flour batter. Fried shrimp were not that crispy, which effected the overall taste.

Yelp
My friends are familiar with this place, so they recommended, but we didn't even get to grill our own kbbq, which took away from the experience. And then the duk mandu guk was very plain and I didn't love the dumplings' fillings. I expected and had better. My friends loved their cold noodles though. Service was nice, but takeout boxes and bags also cost extra. I felt sorta dissatisfied leaving this restaurant. The ambiance just felt off like empty and old.

Ngan D.

Yelp
First time going here for korean bbq. It is in a small shopping center where Lotte is on Veirs Mill Rd. We went during dinner time and it was busy! We got a table right away and tables started to fill after us. It wasn't all you can eat and definitely more pricey compare to others in the area in my opinion. However, it was soo good. We got beef brisket and galbi which we loved. I would recommend the galbi. It was well marinated and so tasty. I also love all the sides that it comes with especially the potatoes. I had to ask for more lol. Didn't love coming home smelling like bbq from head to toe but it was so good :)

Christine Y.

Yelp
Super disappointed to see that the service and portion at this place got so much worse in the last couple of years. We came here with a big group tonight and ordered quite a bit of food. We asked to refill the ban chan a few times and the server had a crappy attitude the whole time and ended up telling us to stop asking for more. For the amount of food we ordered and the number of people we had, I feel that their attitude was unjustified. The portion of the bbq was also small for the price. Even though the food was good (but not great), the overall experience was not enjoyable. My family and friends used to come here all the time. After this experience we would not come back again.

Yelp
My friends and I came here on a whim after our original plan fell through due to power outages throughout Rockville, and it was pretty good but not outstanding. We ordered a ton of food and the bill came out to $200, which honestly was not too bad split across 6 people. - Haemul pajeon: there was actually a decent amount of seafood in the pancake, and not just calamari, which I appreciated as someone who doesn't love calamari (I know, criminal). The pancake was crispy outside and chewy inside. - Mul naengmyun: I've been looking for naengmyun closer to DC because my usual spot in Ellicott City is just SO FAR. Unfortunately, this wasn't it for me. It was decent, but I wish the broth had just a little more flavor. I also had to ask for mustard and vinegar unlike most places that just automatically give it to you. - Kalbi: This was tender and well marinated, but I wish they gave more considering the high price tag ($40). There were two huge bones taking up space on the cast iron plate, so we really barely got any meat. - Bossam: The pork was tender without being too fatty, and they also had a small serving of oysters on the side, which I've never seen before. I wish the cabbage had been cooked just a little more so it was easier to wrap meat in though. - Banchan: kimchi was a bit spicier than other places. Everything else was fine but nothing stood out. - Other things we ordered that I didn't try: dolsot bibimbap, kalbi dolsot bibimbap, seafood soondubu, and jajjangmyun. Service was fine, not super friendly but polite at least. All in all, it was decent but I probably would stick to eating Chinese food in Rockville and going to Virginia/Ellicott City for Korean food.

Yelp
We had high expectations based on reviews in various sites, but were disappointed. We arrived at 9pm on a Friday (closing time is 10pm). The place was not crowded and we were seated immediately. Service was unfriendly most of the time, bordering on surly. We could have overlooked that had the food been spectacular, but that was not a saving grace. We opted to have our food cooked in the kitchen rather than us cook it at the table. The Kalbi was served with some pieces medium and some pieces almost raw. The Bulgogi was good, but the chicken in the chicken-fried-rice was extremely dry and hard to the point of being almost inedible. It took effort to get water glasses refilled, even though there were only 4 tables of people. At 9:50, as we were finishing, we were handed the check and told that they were closed. Also closed was the possibility that we would return.

Mike M.

Yelp
We had seafood pancake and shrimp tempura as an appetizer. The appetizers were so yummy. The tempura were light and fluffy. The non chon is also very good. Non Chon for those that do not know are little appetizer dishes. See the photos that show the little bowls for and example. The BBQ beef was so good. I liked the marinade they used. The meat is so tender. They cook it up for you to perfection right at the table.

Michael A.

Yelp
Prices keep going up at this restaurant. The food and service are still pretty good, though. We ordered a 10-piece of Fried Dumplings (received a 6-piece instead because they ran outof dumplings), 2 servings of Beef Brisket, 1 Pork Belly and a Chicken Fried Rice. The BBQ Meats definitely went up $3.00 each per order! From $21.99 to $24.99. I recall when they were $17.99-$19.99 years ago, so it is surely increasing every year. Got a Soybean Tofu Soup, extra rice, and banchan (sidedishes). Liked the Beef Brisket and Pork Belly. Just seemed like the portions went down for the BBQ meats. Enjoyed the dinner for the most part. Got refills on water in a timel manner, the sidedishes and rice.

Sharon W.

Yelp
From my last review the food has gotten even better. The staff were quick and each bite I took of food had so much flavor. The squid was cooked to perfection soft and easy to chew. Overall now my favorite Korean restaurants by far.

Jane Y.

Yelp
The food was okay but service was TERRIBLE. I never leave reviews (good or bad) but this was worth mentioning for those who may choose to dine here. We came at 1:50pm with a large group of 14 people for my friend's birthday. We were still waiting for half of our table to get there but after a few minutes they told us we needed to order. Since I'm Korean I kindly asked if we can have 5 more minutes (I just sat down lol). She said okay but said that they have a party of 100 coming at 2:30pm so we need to order to prevent mixups and confusion...? Then a couple minutes later this man came over and told us again we need to order. At this point we're scrambling, waiting for others, and have questions because most of my friends are not Korean and unfamiliar with the food. His demeanor was very cold and rude. At one point we asked if we should leave and he said it's up to us. We ended up ordering because we had so many people and moving would be difficult with a baby too. So we ate. But the funniest part is that no party of 100 came at 2:30pm and the restaurant was empty when we left! If you have a big party you should plan ahead and not make your customers feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. That is all.

Luke C.

Yelp
Food was standard Korean. Could have been more flavorful. Service was abysmal. RUDE. And rushed. Came in at 2pm and they asked us to rush because they have a big party 100+ ppl coming soon. Ahjuma kept saying please hurry please hurry so we can get ur order in. We r like ok.... Hold up please we just sat down. They then bring out the big guns. Male waiter who spoke English. Male waiter was rude and had an attitude. Looked visibly pissed off at our presence. Took our order with an attitude. Like we are customers too lmao. Tf? Food comes out. The dwaengjang jigae had NO meat. And the Gal bi tang was watered down. Skimped on the panchan. Lunch wrapped up and to then the waitress requested 20% tip! The audacity! Funny thing. Their 100 person reservation never arrived. Freeking Korean places overcharging for food with shitty service and audacity to request 20% tip. Shameless. As a Korean I am ashamed to be represented by these people. 0/5 would NOT recommend.

Andrew K.

Yelp
Took my family here for dinner. Overall price was relatively high compared to other Korean restaurants. But the quality of food and the sub-below. The only food that was satisfactory was the spicy light tofu soup. Kimchi pancake had no flavor we didn't even bother eating them after tasting a piece. I had a ridiculous customer service experience. I know it's a busy day, but no restaurant I've visited frown at customers so bluntly for not placing an immediate order. It happened only 3 minutes after we were seated. The server's attitude was like "you should've already decided what to order for busy days like this". Also, we were asked if we can move to a smaller table after being seated and side dishes were already placed on the dining table because there was a bigger group. There were a few more minor incidents such as misplacing orders, forgetting utensils, but these were acceptable mistakes. Overall, having a busy day won't justify such attitude and food quality. My family left the restaurant with unpleasant experience.

Eddie K.

Yelp
This is my go to Korean restaurant in Rockville, MD. It's almost like the old Woomi Garden in Wheaton. They hired the same chef and the previous manager from Woomi is here-her daughter now owns this restaurant. I am glad they replaced the worn out carpet with hardwood- makes it look more modern. My go to is still their Galbi (probably the best one in MoCo), dol sot bibimbap, Gam jatang and their bimbim naengmyun. Service is what you can expect at a Korean restaurant. If they are slammed, it will be slow so be patient and drink more soju.

Timo F.

Yelp
My favorite Korean restaurant in the DMV. Very generous portions, extremely consistent quality and flavor, warm, friendly atmosphere. it's an absolute treat every time, and feels like you are with your long lost Korean family.

E K.

Yelp
Went for a weekday lunch. The soon dubu stew was flavorful and not too oily on top. Not served with an egg to crack in, like most places that serve this stew. The spicy seafood noodle soup had a good balance of noodles, seafood, and veg. The banchan side dishes were well seasoned, and their radish kimchi was the stand out. Service was on par with many typical korean restaurants. They have a button at each table that can be pushed for service/ assistance. I feel it was a good sign that there were a lot of Korean folks eating there. I would go back.

James K.

Yelp
There are many choices and the most of the Korean dishes are pretty good. The restaurant has a private section for get-together but requires a part of 8 or more last time I called.

J V.

Yelp
Authentic and delicious! Bulgogi comes with beautiful and plentiful side veggies including a few kimchi varieties plus 4 more. My daughter enjoyed her tofu dishes. Not cheap but worth every penny.

SuJin C.

Yelp
The only thing that was good was a side salad. Very pricey. Korean bbq portion per person was small compared to other Korean bbq restaurants. Terrible service. There were only three servers on a busy Saturday evening when the entire restaurant was packed. I would rather drive to VA to get Korean food.

Kevin T.

Yelp
We went to this restaurant on a whim and we are glad we did. In fact, we didn't take pictures because we weren't expecting to be so impressed to write this review. We ordered the Tofu Stew and Spicy Pork Neck Stew. Both stews were rich and delicious with the pork neck almost melting off the bones on the touch. They gave us plenty of side dishes and rice without extra charge for a full rounded meal. The staff was friendly with quick service, I really enjoyed the cozy ambiance and the portions were large for what I think is a more than fair price. Would definitely come again to explore more dishes since I'm sure they would be just as good.

Jasmine N.

Yelp
Pretty good. I haven't been here in awhile, but was craving some yukhoe (korean beef tartare) so I thought id place pick-up order since I didnt feel like driving all the way to VA for this dish along with an order of bossam. It was pretty busy inside, so it took them about 30-40 minutes after i was told to pick it up my order for it to be actually be ready. The yukhoe beef tasted fresh, had a nice texture, and the sauce was flavorful. Bossam was just okay, it was mostly really fatty pieces that i had to pick out. It also came with a side of raw oysters, which i don't think were fresh because i could smell it from across the room.. I decided to try it anyway, and long story short my partner and i did not enjoy it. Overall, I'd go again but maybe just for the KBBQ and other dishes. Side note - Raw soy marinated crabs aren't available until around 2023

Madelyne V.

Yelp
Really cozy Korean restaurant offering a variety of popular dishes and bbq. I came by for dinner and had a seafood hotpot and seafood pancake. I was very disappointed by the pancake because the amount of seafood in it was minimal, it was like 90% scallion and 10% seafood at best. Other than that, the seafood soup was hearty and delicious. The bon chon was also great, we ate it all. Next time I come, I will try the bbq and the bibimbop, which looked super good while we were there.

Christina Y.

Yelp
I came here with a huge party of about 40 people after a funeral, so it was pretty hectic. However, it was on an early Tuesday afternoon, so the restaurant wasn't too busy at all for the servers (at least I hope not). Once we were seated, our server offered 3 choices of dishes: Bibimbap, Galbitang, and Haejang-guk. I ordered the galbitang. The food all came out surprisingly quick! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Portions were generous and side dishes were also great! I loved my galbitang, especially since I had not gotten to eat it in so long. The broth was so delicious and there was plenty of meat. It really hit the spot of, "I really want to eat some authentic Korean soup". Servers were very accomodating and able to get to all of us quickly if we had additional requests! If you are looking for authentic Korean food ans not anything fusion, you will find it here!

Annie T.

Yelp
Always love coming here for their lunch special. However today I decided to come on Sunday lunch. I was so sad to miss out on the specials weekday deals. However food was still worth it. This restaurant is probably the only good Korean food in the rockville area. There aren't many aunthenic Korean food in rockivlle. I have been coming here for year's now. I was shock that when I came today it wasn't as busy when I would come in the weekdays. I guess it's because most people might be at church. I got their specialty Mackeral and delicious kimchi jigae. They're soups are so hearty and comforting. The Fish room a but too grill but worth the wait. I live the addition of the splash of lemon. I also got the galbi dolsat bibimbap. I was shock that the galbi was the good quality one rather than the la ribs. I highly recommend coming here for lunch and grabbing bingsoo by shilla bakery after.

So H.

Yelp
I ordered a $30 kimchi order they didn't put in the side dish or rice into the order. We're supposed to come with it. Every other restaurant that I ate in also, there was barely any meat into my tofu kimchi stirfry with pork pork kimchi is all rice cake.

Glenda M.

Yelp
Food to expensive and not enough food for the price Service terrible just old woman's working like a waitress And they forgot to take all the orders cus they on a rush serving tables Ambiance not comfortable the chairs very loose I was scare cus I almost feel down from the chair

Jeff L.

Yelp
This is a solid Korean BBQ establishment. The spicy tofu and seafood soup is really good and I would recommend giving it a try. The seafood pancake was also solid, maybe just slightly greasy.

Julia D.

Yelp
It was located in a pretty busy strip mall, this place seemed like a small family owned business so I wanted to try. The staff was just an elderly asian lady so there wasn't much communication (not complaining since I understand). She was wonderful and cooked our bbq on the stove for us. Banchans were delicious but it was very expensive for a seemingly smaller meal.

June K.

Yelp
We came here late evening and thankfully it was pretty empty. We ordered a seafood tteokboki and Bul Nak Jungol. The seafood tteokboki was very good, above my expectations. We were told by the waiter that the jungol would feed about 2 people, but it was very large and there were plenty of leftovers between three of us. Unfortunately it was very bland, and I wasn't a fan. The flavor I usually find in spicy Korean soups just wasn't there. Because it came on a gas burner, we tried to keep it boiling so the flavor would be more concentrated, but our waiter kept turning it off. We didn't want to inform her we were keeping it on to make it taste better, haha. Overall, between the tasteless jungol and yummy tteokboki, it's only three stars. May come back for their bbq

Yelp
I used to frequent this restaurant and loved it, but today was just embaressing... I made a reservation for a party of 10 to celebrate my newborn's 100 day old party. When I arrived, the restaurant was empty, but server started an argument saying no reservation was ever made. The server decided to seat my party anyway... The food: The food was off... -Jajangmyun - bland. not enough sauce to cover the noodles. -Shrimp Tangsooyook $22.99 - Sad. We got this to share, but it only had 8-9 pieces of shrimp and few pieces of veggies. -Sundubu - Flavor was off -Dukk Mandu Guk - One of the few dishes where we had no complaints... -Steak Tartare - Frozen beef, not fresh. They DRENCHED this with red pepper paste without asking us how much sauce we'd like. We couldn't taste much but the sauce itself. For some reason the server spent several minutes trying to squeeze the lime slices on our steak tartare by stabbing it with chopsticks? She got frustrated and told another server to do it. The other server ignored her. Fried Mandu - Can't get this wrong, right? Wrong... This was the first dish they brought out for our party and they presented 10 fried mandu's stacked on top of each other in a french fry paper plate... Unappetizing and soggy. Seafood pancake - Decent, no complaints. Nengmyun - Why was the chilled broth so salty? Was not edible. Side dishes - Sad The service: -We did not feel welcome here. From the start, the servers were visibly annoyed that we even got seated despite making a reservation 3 days ahead of time. They were rushing us to order when we only had 4 menus and 10 people. I especially did not appreciate it when they were rushing my grandfather to pick. They served some dishes on paper plates. The server spent a long time trying to squeeze a lime slice on the steak tartare with chopsticks - how does that even work? Not all of us had water. Presented the check to the wrong person even though I was the one who asked for it. Gave me a whole speech about why I should tip 20% when I didn't even say anything. Came back to our table and wanted to get just the check - I guess they wanted to make sure I tipped 20% before I left. Needless to say, I did tip 20%, but I will not be coming here again.

Yelp
What stood out most was how friendly everyone was - as soon as we walked in, every server greeted us very warmly. Most of the patrons looks like groups of retired Korean couples ... which is probably a good sign :) FYI this visit happened before the coronavirus lockdown. Ordered from the lunch menu - good selection, reasonable prices. Our meal came with 5 complimentary banchan (side dishes). MANDOO GUK - $10.99 Broth was good, mandoo was ok ... I think I had at least 8 mandoo. They looked handmade b/c they were very flat shaped. Very filling! Also came with a bowl of rice. SOON DUBU - $10.99 Didn't try myself but my sister enjoyed her tofu stew. Also came w/ a bowl of rice. One of my good friends from the area recommended it as one of the better Korean restaurants. Located in the same plaza as Lotte.

Yelp
Great authentic Korean food. One of the few open on a Monday. Was busy but service was quick. Can get noisy but you can hold a conversation. Will go back.

Yelp
I'm embarrassed to say that we only tried this place a few years ago but it is excellent. Very good Korean BBQ, soups and sides at good prices. Really one of the best around here.

Yelp
We generally go to Iron Age on Rockville Pike when we have a hankering for Korean BBQ, but the wait was way too long for a weekday night. Since we had already fixated on Korean bbq, we found this spot thanks to yelp. I called ahead to see how long the wait would be for a party of 4 - 15minutes. When we arrived, we signed in on a clipboard and waited to be greeted/seated. It was roughly 10minutes before anyone acknowledged us and thankfully, it was to be seated. After getting seated, it didn't take very long to order and get our food. We ordered Combo A ($86.99): Galbi (Marinated prime short rib), Toshisal (marinated steak beef), Bulgogi (tender beef ribeye), and Soon Doo Boo (spicy tofu stew). The meat was marinated/seasoned very well and quite tender. The accompaniments included potatoes, salad, kimchi, spicy zucchini, bean sprouts, green leaf lettuce, rice, and chicken. I really liked the potatoes! It was a fair amount of food and was more than enough for my family of 4 (2 adults, a 3 y/o and an 8 y/o). I took away two stars because of the lack of greeting/acknowledgement, the price point was higher than normal, and I felt like we were missing a few sauces. I would, however, eat here again.

Yelp
The food was OK and the service was good too, however, as I was leaving the waitress was extremely aggressive about getting a bigger tip. I tipped 10%, but she insisted on getting 18% minimum. I obliged and tipped her the 18%. This was a sour way to end a birthday surprise dinner My Wife had planned for me.

Yelp
Would give them 0 stars if possible. My mom ordered seafood pancakes. She speaks perfect English given she's been here since the 1970s, and she's been talking about seafood pancakes since Thursday, so no way did she say scallion pancakes. We get home and, look at that, they gave us scallion pancakes. Things happen, right? Well, we have one car and I'm running behind for an appointment so my mom is trying to get them to correct the order tomorrow. The employee and then later presumably a manager have the audacity to say she's wasting their time for $15 if she's not willing to come back to the restaurant right now, and then hang up on her. As if they were going to re-serve the returned food if it was brought back tonight instead of tomorrow. Trainwreck service, not to mention the order they got right (tofu soup) was bland. Stay away.

Yelp
We ordered take-out- almost $150 worth. The food was delicious, but the portion was SUPER small. An order of Joomulluck was $34.99, but there were literally 12 cubes... Yep, I counted. *CRYING EMOJI* An order of Bulgogi was $22.99, and it was half the size of what Lighthouse Tofu used to give us. I am craving both dishes like crazy but sadly canNOT justify ever paying that much for those portions again!! I'd give 5 stars for taste but 2.5 stars for portion & service (the person taking my payment was RUDE). Hence a 3-star rating from me!

Yelp
I have been waiting for SO LONG to be able to eat legit Korean food again, as bbq can't really be turned into an outdoor dining thing. I was so excited to come try this place out and they exceeded my expectations! I'd lived in Seoul before, and this place was fr the real deal. The banchan were fresh and delicious, and as usual you can get refills on them as you eat. All the restaurant servers were so nice and welcoming, and for BBQ they helped us grill it all. The samgyetang was also 10/10. The chicken was super tender and the soup tasted like health in the best way. COVID precautions were well followed inside the restaurant, with all servers wearing masks properly, a contact tracing list upon entry, and hand sanitizer available. I'm already thinking about when I'll come back to eat more of the delicious food here! This is going my new spot for Korean food.

Yelp
I hate leaving bad reviews for local restaurants but the food, including the banchan (side dishes), was not good. I almost felt sick after eating what I did force myself to eat. The service was very friendly, though.

Yelp
It's been a long time since we came here to eat. We were very satisfied with the cleanliness, foods quality and service . For a Korean BBQ restaurant, the table was so clean, no oil at all.temperature check at the door, 6+ ft spacing between tables, mask required whenever ppl leave the table.

Yelp
My go-to place for a great Korean BBQ in Montgomery county. Price is reasonable. Food and service is good. Side dishes are decent. Soup dishes are very good.

Yelp
I visited this spot with a group of folks. It was my first time here and even though I glanced at their menu, I had no idea what to order. A few had made suggestions on things and so I went with that. It is good to try different things when you have a group of folks. Now even though I liked most of the things I tried, I will not be able to give you the names of the menu items I ordered. I do know this - I enjoyed the dumplings (shaped like half a moon), cubed potatoes (had a little sweet taste to them), beef somethings (I think I tried 1 or 2 different items (sorry can't remember what they were), seafood pancake (so good) and I also tried what looked like wet or see-through noodles (I would love to have this again). I also loved dipping some of the beef in a bowl mixture that looked like oil mixed with salt and pepper (it was great for dipping). I am a visual person, so if you show me the items, I can tell you yes or no if I liked them - I just can't name what they were. Would I go back? Well, since I still need schooling on the items on this menu, I certainly would come back here with others.
