The 19 Best Restaurants in Cairo, Egypt | Eater

"Although quiet during the day, this residential part of Imbaba becomes animated in the evening, thanks to Hawawshi El Rabie, which originated as a family-run butchery but now serves a lineup of Egyptian street food. Grills sprawl out from the corner shop, providing plenty of opportunity for customers to watch the staff in action. Crowd favorites include mbakbaka with sugok (small pasta slathered with spicy tomato sauce and seared on a grill to form crispy edges, before being optionally topped with beef sausage) and hawawshi (seasoned beef mince stuffed in baladi bread that’s brushed with ghee before it’s grilled to crispy perfection). If you go for the wara’et lahma (beef thigh meat with onion, garlic, potatoes, and carrots slow-cooked within a wrapper of parchment paper), be sure to order a side of vermicelli rice to soak up the juices at the bottom." - Laila Hassaballa

The food here is amazing! Do. Not. Miss. Great vibes too, everything is outside and every single person we met was super friendly. We came with a food tour, but could have totally gotten by just with English without a problem. Hawawshi was delicious, we had both the mincemeat and the sausage. The grape leaves were wonderful, even to my sister who tries them everywhere she goes. I know it's not the star of the meal, but they have darn good tahini! Best drink is the lemon mint juice. 10/10!

One of the best Hawawshi spots in Egypt! The food was absolutely delicious and very filling. The place can get a bit crowded at times, but the service remains fast and efficient. The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Don’t miss the lemon-mint smoothie – it’s a must-try! Refreshing, perfectly balanced, and the ideal complement to a hearty meal. Highly recommended if you’re craving authentic Egyptian street food with a great vibe!

While exploring Cairo in search of the best Mouloukhia, we were told by several locals that Hawawshi Alrabih is a must-try. The setting is very authentic — with outdoor seating literally set up in the street, which adds a special charm and makes you feel like part of the neighborhood. The staff were welcoming and helpful, quickly guiding us toward their specialties. Of course, we were here mainly for the Mouloukhia, but they also insisted we try their famous Hawawshi and grills. Both dishes were full of flavor and truly represented Egyptian street food at its best. The Mouloukhia, in particular, was rich and delicious 😋 definitely one of the best I’ve had in Cairo. If you're looking for a local, no-frills experience with excellent food, this place is highly recommended.

Really cannot fault the Hawawshi, was the best I've had, and I'm Egyptian. I bought the fully loaded one with Egyptian sausage (Sujuk) and mince meat and cheese and wow... amazing. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! It's a must try when in Cairo!! Only thing is, if you want the entertainment and music and atmosphere, that is in the evening and we visited during the day, which if you're just there for the food is fine. I personally would have preferred a bit more atmosphere so when in Cairo again, I'll be visiting in the evening for sure.

We were group of 11 persons. We choose different types of dishes and we shared some. Most of dishes are okay but not WOW. Food to price cost is average. Area is public and they helped us to park. Place is like 70% clean. Best dish is traditional Egyptian molokhia. Rice also fine. Some of us buy beef to take away but claim it is expensive.
