Really disappointed in what is supposed to be a great hotel attached to the Grand Central Station in NYC. Terrific location. Expensive as **** considering what you got and how we were treated by the night and housekeeping staff.
Was there for work, room was $400 a night, (7 nights) and that did not include a breakfast. Room was pretty small (I know, NYC). It had huge clothes closet but at the detriment to the bathroom size. I would much rather have a comfortable bathroom with space. Also, the toilet had a flush mechanism that looked like it came from my junior high school gym. Please see pictures.
We had a HUGE problem with housekeeping and towels. EVERY single night. We had requested 4 bath towels, 2 face towels, 2 wash cloths, and a bathmat to step on out of the tub. The front desk wrote down the request at check in, it never happened. EVERY night we had to call down and ask for extras. My companion went to the desk one night, after working until 10pm and requested. They said no problem, 20 minutes. 35 minutes later, still no towels and bathmat. Went back down, they said that they had come by and nobody answered, not true, we were both in the room. They said they would redispatch, pleas wait another 20 minutes. 30 minutes later, still no towels, go back down, they said that you must have just missed them in the elevator, not true, we still had someone in the room. Stood there and argued for 10 minutes, while there, housekeeping showed up. DON"T GASLIGHT ME, the person had not come before and said so to the person in the room. Now it is getting close to midnight, still need to take showers as work starts next day at 7am. EVERY SINGLE NIGHT WE HAD HOUSEKEEPING ISSUES LIKE THIS AND THE FRONT DESK FLAT OUT LIED ABOUT IT. I can forgive bad service but own up to it. I can't forgive someone who lies to customers. Multiple times. When we went to go check out and complain, the front desk person admitted that they had been having problems with the nighttime housekeeping staff, they have had multiple complaints.
They also nickel and dime you at every turn. Want a water from their shop? $5.50 or $7.50 depending on size one 16oz the other 1 liter. 6" Italian sub sandwich, $17 please. 2 people for a buffet breakfast that you get at a Residence Inn or Red Roof Inn, plus 2 coffees, $115 total. Drinks at the bar, nothing special, house bourbon and ginger ale-- $30 each. Want to have them hold your luggage after checking out because your flight doesn't leave until 6pm? $4 a bag, plus tip on top. There is a food cart right outside the door where you can get a bottle of water for a dollar and a food plate for $8-$12. I'm sorry, but at $400 a night, how about a little love for your guests?
The hotel is beautiful in so many ways, but I personally would not stay there again. There are 2 more trips there for work this year and we are telling the travel department to please not book there. That's 14 more nights that they won't get out of the company's budget.
