Efforts to Unionize Georgia’s Hospitality Industry Is on the Rise | Eater Atlanta

"A large downtown convention hotel where banquet servers like Theresa Cross — a single mother who returned to work after breast cancer treatment and had been employed full-time for six years — experienced both some short-term benefit protections and long-term financial strain during the pandemic. Union representation through Local 23 secured full health benefits through the end of 2020 and recall rights that guarantee pre-COVID jobs for 24 months after March 9, 2020, giving workers a level of job security that Cross contrasts with nonunion hotels that have terminated staff or offered severance. Despite those protections, Cross can no longer afford COBRA premiums, worries about paying for her medical treatments and her son’s college, and fears employers could replace workers with cheaper labor once operations fully resume." - Laura Scholz

The staff was very pleasant from start to finish. The hotel itself is beautiful—large, clean, and it smells amazing in the common areas. We stayed in the international wing, and the room was a decent size. The room itself was clean; however, the shower was disappointing and clearly not cleaned, with hair throughout. Unfortunately, we didn’t notice this right away because we arrived late and had dinner plans, only realizing it when we returned around 1 a.m. That said, the room was spacious, and the bed and pillows were comfortable. Valet service was very convenient, making it easy to pull up, unload our belongings, and hand off the car. The bar drinks were good, and the bar staff was friendly and welcoming. Overall, while there were several positives, the cleanliness issue makes me unsure if I would choose to stay here again.

Tip: If you can, dine literally anywhere else. You definitely get what you pay for here. Prices were reasonably low, and the hotel was mostly clean. It’s a little dated, but not in a “charming vintage” way—more like “this place has seen some things,” and is choosing not to talk about them. Then there’s the food, and suddenly the lower ratings make perfect sense. In-room dining is already pricey, but $8 for three slices of bacon is impressive in a “did the pig come with a tiny tuxedo and a violin” kind of way. My $15 fruit bowl arrived with molded fruit, which I guess is their attempt at offering aged produce. Bold choice. It gets better: I brought leftovers from a nearby restaurant and figured I’d heat them up. The “community” microwaves looked like they’d been through a busy weekend and had not emotionally recovered—dirty enough that I considered eating my food cold out of respect. All that said, credit where it’s due: the staff at check-in/out was exceptionally pleasant, and honestly, they’re doing heroic work holding the vibe together.

Drove here to celebrate my anniversary. Had a very lovely time. All the staff here are so kind. From check in, valet, housekeeping , to the people working the cafe. Our room was also very clean, comfy, and spacious! Had a lovely view of the city right outside our window. Shout out to the very kind lady working the “Market” part of the hotel towards closing time on January 3rd. She was so sweet & made us both feel very welcomed. She deserves recognition!! About the room: We were on the 21st floor. The soaps included with our room smelled sooo nice, TV was very big. Lots of places to sit and lounge around. We got the king bed. Thanks to everyone at the Hyatt for helping us make our anniversary very special.

This is a fantastic hotel with great amenities and staff. This neighborhood of Atlanta is not nice at all, but I had to stay there for a conference. So I am grateful that I was staying at this hotel to make up for what otherwise would have been a miserable experience. They have thought of everything and the people working there are very helpful. The hotel premises are beautiful and have everything you may need. All the personnel I interacted with were polite, helpful, and friendly. Check-in and check out were efficient. There is a place in the lobby to grab food and drinks to-go, which was very convenient. I used the fitness center every day and there was enough space for everyone on equipment whenever I was there regardless of the time of the day. Overall a fantastic experience.

I have been staying at this hotel since I was a kid and this place holds nostalgic value for me. Used to come here every year for the Lads to Leaders conference (pre 2010). My recent stay here, I have to say while its not as big as the Marquis it sure is a fine place to stay, great rooms which are clean, Hyatt does a great job of maitenence. Yes it is a little loud (it's an atrium lol). But I really like this hotel. It is clean and classy. Great conference facilities. Overall wonderful Hotel.

Beautiful place, first time here. The elevators terrified me as I'm afraid of heights but by the 4th or 5th time I was OK( we were on the 20th floor😬)! Had one little bump while there with the restaurant cashier. Our room came with breakfast for 3 each day we stayed, the lady didn't believe it and said they didn't do that there. After a little bit and her checking with someone else, we were able to enjoy the buffet! The servers and omelet makers were awesome and the food was perfecto!

Google
A great hotel in a brilliant location - I’m glad I picked here for my first visit to the city. The expansive lobby area gives an amazing first impression, and admiring the elevators whizzing up and down is great to watch. Checking in was a breeze with the staff member providing recommendations for things to do in the area and giving a good overview of the hotel. My room was on the 18th floor and a huge size, with a decent view across the nearby downtown area. The chaise in the window made the space extra relaxing and it’d be comfortable for an extended stay. The TV was huge and the bed was exceptional - large and one of the comfiest I can remember. Electric sockets were present at both sides of the bed along with controls for the decent lighting. Air-conditioning worked well without being too noisy. The bathroom wasn’t quite as impressive as the main room, feeling more dated, but it was spacious enough. Shower was over the sunken bath and had good enough power and towels were soft. There’s lots of restaurants and bars within the hotel, plus a shop within the lobby selling essentials which is really convenient. Given the good value it offered I’ll certainly be staying here next time I’m in the city and fully recommend.

The hotel itself was decent definitely stayed in alot better but the experience overall was a 1 star. As soon as you arrive you can either vallet park for $60 a night or park down the street at a sketchy parking garage which was a no go because I have kids. Then in the morning we paid im advance for the breakfast, which me and my son were looking forward to because it seemed like a nice restaurant. But the food was not good they had nothing for kids, he settled on cereal, which for 60 dollars for breakfast we coulda went to waffle house. So between vallet and subpar breakfast it came to 120 which was almost more than our room.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel while in town for a conference, and I absolutely loved it! Not only is the location great, but the hotel itself is rich in history--it was the first to open its doors to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which is incredible and adds such meaning to the stay. The room was clean, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. It had a cozy little sofa, perfect if you want to work somewhere other than the desk. The staff were all incredibly friendly--check-in and check-out were a breeze, and there was always someone nearby to offer assistance, whether at the front or outside. Although I was in Atlanta for work and didn't get much time to explore, this hotel made my first visit a really enjoyable one. I'd definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Good but not great Hyatt outpost. The staff is helpful and sweet but the property feels a bit dated and a bit overpriced for what it is. The place is beautiful with a soaring atrium in the center. It's only if you venture upstairs (dated 1970s design in hallways) or out in the local neighborhood (especially after dark it feels mildly dangerous) that the ambiance is not so great Service was terrific for check in / out and any questions. They could use a bit more obvious security outside the property. Upstairs the room was nice and newly renovated. The hallways as mentioned look like a vision of the future, but from 1975 or so. One odd thing: the balcony was nice but had no furniture

Yelp
I really like Hyatt, it is the brand that I choose to stay with most often when I travel because rates are affordable, and properties are nice. I was very impressed when I entered the lobby of this Hyatt, it felt very grand, was nicely lit and well decorated. The staff went above and beyond to be friendly at check in and they had a bag check in the lobby which I took advantage of. As a WOH member, check in was a breeze. In the lobby is a bar that serves food and a market for small items you may have forgotten at home. They serve coffee and pastries too. Once I got off the elevator I could see that the hotel has been around a long time, it felt more dated once I was on the tower floor, but the room had been recently updated and was decent. We were upgraded to a balcony room which was nice, but that too felt a little dated. It was also missing furniture which gave me absolutely no reason to go on the balcony. Because I used points for part of my stay I booked two reservations and the staff couldn't merge them but said I could stay in the same room and come back down to check in quickly when time for the 2nd stay. I had to bring my ID and unfortunately left it with the person at the desk by mistake. I didn't know I was without ID until I arrived at the airport to head home. Thankfully TSA worked things out, but getting my ID sent to me felt like an unnecessary hassle. After about 5 calls to security I finally got the fedex mailing setup and ID sent to me at my expense. I disagree with that approach since it would have been great if someone had alerted me that the ID was left behind in the remaining 1-2 days of my stay. Anyway, I got it back after providing my payment info.

Yelp
I had a decent stay at this location! I was in town for a conference that was taking place here. The valet process was a little challenging to figure out at first but everyone was kind and supportive. The room was clean as was the rest of the hotel. Check in was quick and easy. Would stay again if in the area.

Yelp
Excellent location: just a block away from the train station. Plenty of restaurants that open till late at night. Parking is expensive about $60 per night on site at the hotel. You can probably find some off site garages for cheaper. Room is very spacious and clean. Housekeeping is on time and on point. Will book again.

Yelp
I stayed here for 4 nights & was pleased with everything. The location was downtown & there happened to be a rock festival @ Piedmont Park, so it was very crowded in the surrounding areas. The pros: room cleaned daily, great location, although I didn't use it, the gym was very nice, quick elevator & courteous staff. Cons: the loud air conditioner unit. Each time it would come on it sounded like a shower was running on the floor above. There were a few minor things. The in room safe wouldn't lock & telephone wasn't working, but they were fixed right away. Also, I asked for a quiet room & although the room was away from the elevator & bar, the street noise could be heard. Having a room with a balcony & facing the street, I could hear people, music & loud cars even though I was on the 12th floor. I guess that couldn't be helped. Lastly, $60 dollars a night to valet park. I don't know if that's the going rate to park downtown, but that's expensive. Valet guys were great though! Overall, I would definitely choose this hotel again.

Great location. Nice size rooms, very clean. Quiet hotel. Friendly staff, nice bar. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Yelp
Wonderful three night stay in a great downtown location. Fast check in, fast elevators, and a comfortable room (and bed). Good shower, with strong water pressure and lots of hot water. Excellent breakfast buffet in the lobby restaurant. Well stocked shop on premises. Nice (really large) lobby. Big shout out to the lobby staff -- front desk and concierge/front door folks -- all of whom were very customer service oriented, but I wanted to specifically say a big "thanks" to Greg (see photo). Greg repeatedly, and cheerfully, answered my questions regarding places to eat, places to visit, directions, and generally enhanced my 3 day/3night stay. I travel 30+ days/nights or so each year. Greg will be someone I remember and one of the reasons I will stay at this property again, next time I am in Atlanta. Nicely done Hyatt! A very satisfied Hyatt Globalist.

Yelp
The overall feel of the hotel is acceptable. However, inside the room is a different story. If you want to feel like you are in an industrial space, this is the place for you. What I did not expect was to lay on a bed that did not have a fitted sheet. After a long day, I simply wanted a good nights rest. Unfortunately, I was disturbed by the hotel only providing a flat sheet on top of a thin layered pad sitting right on the exposed mattress. When I expressed my discontent with the front desk, their response was basically that I should have reported it the night before. Unacceptable.

Yelp
We arrived in ATLANTA for the weekend of June 7-9th for a mini vacation & this is where we stayed. This is by far one of the nicest Hyatt regency's we have ever stayed at. Me and my boyfriend definitely recommend this hotel. We are from the Houston Texas area. Our stay was wonderful
google avatar

Kyle S.

Yelp
Located right downtown, the Hyatt Regency is close to everything that the area has to offer. A walk of just a little over a half mile will take you to Centennial Olympic Park, the College Football Hall of Fame, the Georgia World Congress Center as well as the typical shopping and dining. The building itself is impressive. Easily identifiable by its rotating restaurant, Polaris (open Wednesday through Saturday) at its apex, the inside is a bright and bold expression in modern Brutalism. The rooms ring the center of the building which is highlighted by a large wire sculpture that erupts from beneath the lobby floor as well as a large bank of glass elevators that all face outward. Lights are tasteful while large planters of vines can be found hanging on each floor. The downside of this open, concrete cube is that if you're on one of the lower floors, the sound of the restaurant and bar continues to funnel up into the night until closing. I heard people laughing and talking until 2 a.m. on a Monday night. If you're a light sleeper, I would recommend ear plugs. The rooms themselves are clean and well appointed. In the main tower (there is a second Radius tower that I'm not familiar with as I didn't stay there), each room has a balcony to go out and enjoy the air. There weren't any chairs or anything, but you can get air. The beds are comfortable, probably medium firmness, and sheets are soft. The pillows are useless, but that's not atypical for hotels. The room came with a large TV, safe, and small refrigerator. The microwave was down a dark hallway on the floor with a sign that clearly marked "Microwave". I guess it makes sense, but I though it was funny. The towels had seen better days. They were a little rough and clearly cleaned for disinfection rather than softness and one of mine had a small hole in the middle. Shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, and body lotion were all in pump bottles in the room, which I like better than the wastefulness of individual packaging. Water pressure and temperature were both good. I did take issue with the light switch for the entryway to my room. The sleeping/TV/sitting area was broken up from the entryway/bathroom by a wall, but an open doorway. That doorway lined up with the heads of the beds. I couldn't turn off the entryway light, so it stayed on all night, going right across my eyes. Along with your ear plugs, maybe a sleep mask if you have trouble with light. Service was good! Checking in and out were a breeze. The guest service desk wasn't always staffed, but they did provide me with a bag check and a complimentary razor due to my forgetting to pack one. The fitness area is well set up and offers a lot more than your typical hotel gym! They offer a small market to compliment the restaurant/bar. There's meeting rooms, a pool, blah, blah, blah. You can see their amenities page. Anyhow, good stay, but it wasn't the best sleep I've had. I would definitely consider again when I'm in town.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay. But what made it even better was the car valet customer service. Abas Yusuf was extraordinary, humble, and kind. Not only did he return our vehicle promptly but when i was taking the trash out my car, which i was willingly going to throw away on my own, Abas went above and beyond by offering to take my trash for me, which is not something he is required to do. This personal touch made our stay much more enjoyable. His strong work ethic is a valuable asset that is often overlooked. I hope that Abas Yusuf receives greater consideration for advancement opportunities within Hyatt. Thank you Abas!!!

Yelp
We stayed here for a few days, and, overall, it was pretty pleasant. From the exterior, it didn't seem much, but when you step inside, I loved the exposed balconies on the multiple floors - it literally looked like the hotel was built around a few buildings! Rooms were clean and every well-stocked; housekeeping did an amazing job in tidying up the room on a daily basis. Front staff were friendly and efficient; the concierge/guest services, while nice, didn't offer great recommendations. It seemed as if the hotel just partnered up with businesses near by and just referred to one another. Note that the elevators are the exposed capsules, so if you're afraid of heights, this may be an issue! Not much to do in this area, but there was a restaurant or two that we were okay with. +clean rooms +friendly service

Yelp
Stayed here for a conference I had due to its proximity to the conference and also because I generally enjoy staying at the Hyatt. The elevators in the hotel were super slow and sometimes it would take 10 minutes just to get an elevator to your floor. I ended up taking the stairs one of those days from the 10th floor. The hotel was on the older side. The room was spacious but the patio was all rusty and you couldn't open the door (safety reasons). The mirror in the bathroom was slanted and the walls were not soundproof as you could hear everything next door and in the hallways. On my last night, I woke up around 1 am as the room smelled like marijuana. I turned the AC higher to see if the smell would go away because I did not want to deal with switching rooms at a late hour before my flight. The smell did eventually dissipated. The hotel gym was actually a decent size. It was near a bridge to a food court nearby which had a lot of shopping mall like food vendors.

Yelp
Quality/Quantity - Overall a good size hotel. Room was fine, decent size. Typical amenities; room safe, iron board, fridge, sofa chaise, small work station, etc. Our room also had a decent view. Huge conference facility, a floor below the lobby. Good size bar/restaurant in the lobby. Several restaurants in the lobby. Twenty two stories lobby bar, sway restaurant, polaris (see other Yelp review). Atmosphere - One of the major hotels in downtown Atlanta. But be safe, as the people outside of the hotel can be very "aggressive." This hurt this review the most. Location, location, location... Events - See website. Open 24 hours, 7 days a week. Service - Good. Check in and out was smooth. We declined room service a few times. When they did make the room, it was okay. Valet parking available, starting at $55. See picture for parking rates. Price - $800 for 3 nights. Expensive, especially for Atlanta. I think we came during "peak" season. Also a major golf tournament was happening. Masters? Sorry, I have not been keeping up. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success at this location since 1967 and being one of the major hotels in downtown Atlanta. Congrats on Hyatt's success since 1957 and with your 1335+ hotels. Other brands owned by Hyatt - Miraval, Alila, Andaz (one of our favorite hotels in downtown Napa), Thompson, Dream, etc. Some resorts owned by Hyatt - Impression by Secrets, Zoetry, Secrets, Breathless, Dreams, Alua, Sunscape, etc. 1962 - Went public. 1968 - Went international. 1979 & 1982 - Went back private.

Yelp
I stayed here for four nights, so I feel like I can give a fair review. Note: this is a CONFERENCE hotel, not a vacation hotel. Just be warned that if you are a casual traveler (I was here for work but not a conference), you may be stuck with 1,200 middle aged conference goers like I was. And those people liked to PARTY and party LOUD. This is an older hotel, but it's been updated some. Everyone loves the elevators (and they are stunning to look at), but there aren't enough of them for 1,200 people so during prime time you may be waiting forever for an elevator. The rooms: I had a 2 queen bed with a balcony room. The balcony was tiny, but I'm scared of heights and didn't go out there. The beds were okay-ish for comfort, but a bit soft for me. Same with the pillows. The room was CLEAN, but it was clearly in need of TLC--chipped paint, stained and threadbare carpet, etc. The shower had zero water pressure, practically, and the sinks were hilariously poorly designed. When you wash your hands water goes all over the counter. Amenities in room are sparse because this is a CONFERENCE hotel and they want you to expense everything. You get a Keurig, k-cups, a couple of cups, and a fridge. There's an in-room safe if that is your thing, as well. Oh and if you want to pay $4 for a bottle of water, they've got you covered in the room. There's bare bones live TV and also a constantly malfunctioning Chromecast option. Wifi is spotty at times. There are 3 dining options in the restaurant--a market with grab and go options, $4 sodas, etc. I suppose you could microwave the grab and go options in the janky microwave in the hallway? There is also a bar that serves food (the food is fine) that conference goers love to mingle in and get loud in. Note: rooms face this open central area, so the drunker you get the louder your room is. There's also a Southern restarant that also offers a $30 breakfast buffet. I had it. It was meh. I think dinner is far better. You do have other options, though, thanks to the ample skybridges to other hotels, a CVS, a food court with various fast food options, etc. Just be warned it's a bit of a labrynth. I didn't use it, but parking is $60/day (!!!). They also have an outdoor pool that is open seasonally. Service is impeccable at this hotel, which is pretty amazing considering the crowds they attract. It's centrally located, as well. The other reviews warning about homeless folks are correct, but I didn't find them overly pushy. If you've been to any large city and survived, you'll be prepared. Overall: if someone else was paying for it, I'd stay here again.

Yelp
All things considered, this is a nice hotel. It has a lobby bar, restaurant and a market where you can get quick breakfast or dinner items. The staff in the market were very nice, as were the front desk staff. The standard restaurant Sway was just okay. The lady at the bar was very nice but she had a little rift with another employee where they were having attitude with each other regarding who should give me my too go order bag. So when it was handed to me I said thank you but was ignored because the lady that gave it to me was too busy giving a dirty look to the bartender who suggested it was that lady's job to give it to me. This is not the customer's issue, so they should be mindful of this and keep their fights behind the scene. I ordered shrimp and grits and it was pretty good with the exception of the mushroom chunks. The honey biscuits were supposed to be a speciality of theirs but I found them underwhelming. The room was clean and comfortable, which was a major plus. The balconies have no furniture which is a bit odd, but besides that I can't complain about the room. Overall it is an above average to good, but not great, hotel that I would likely return to if the opportunity presents itself.

Jonas Vanderbilt V.

Yelp
If you tell a guest that a market will be open 24:7, the guest will be expecting service as such. Then to only get told from a front guest staff that the service is contingent open occupancy is a slap in the face when the guest could have gotten food and drinks before returning to the hotel That said the store would be open.

Yelp
I am here for the NMLS Conference and we require WiFi to work and network at this conference with over 1,000+ attendees. Nope couldn't sign on to work and kept saying no internet connection. You'd think they'd have their WiFi set up to handle this. On top of it, room service didn't bring breakfast that was pre ordered. Come down for lunch all restaurants are closed on a Tuesday at 1pm when again you're hosting a conference. Went next door to the Marriot who took care of all of the above Never staying here again and will stay somewhere else. Guest services was nice and the only staff that assisted and was so nice. The only reason I gave 2 stars over 1.

Yelp
This hotel is located downtown so it is walking distance to most tourist attractions including CNN Tower, World Of Coca-Cola, Atlanta Aquarium, etc. The hotel is very clean from the lobby to the rooms. The bed and pillows are comfortable. Towels are clean too. There is a connecting pathway to the mall where you can buy foods at the foodcourt. We particularly liked the Japanese sushi place. Tasted so authentic yet so affordable.

Yelp
I was in town for the Falcons-Packers game, and while my Packers lost, this was a more than solid stay and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a no frills vacation in Atlanta. This is easily one of the nicest Hyatt Regency hotels I've ever been in. The lobby is absolutely huge, and this was probably the best gym I've ever utilized at any hotel. Centrally located on the long Peachtree road, touristy spots like the World of Coca Cola, Centennial Olympic Park, the College Football Hall of Fame, as well sporting complexes like the Mercedes Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena are no more than a 15-20-minute walk away--eliminating the need for ridesharing unless you're going to the airport or somewhere outside of downtown proper. A mall with a solid food court is also connected to the property, which I didn't realize until the day I was checking out. If I were to nitpick anything -- as a Globalist, my upgrade was only to a corner room, but it was also a big sports weekend so I can understand the lack of a suite upgrade. Still, while breakfast was solid and visually stunning, I was disappointed to find that the hot items were hardly hot. I wouldn't call the biscuits and gravy lukewarm either. Still, the avocado/salmon toast stations were solid and I was happy to have breakfast comp'd. All that aside, again, Hyatt Regency Atlanta is an easy recommendation.

Yelp
So to start this is the third time I'm trying to write this bc I have accidentally deleted this so many times! But ima try to be equally detailed: Check-In: I called days before arriving to try to arrange arrive early check in and as we know that varies and we were told to call the hotel day off. We got to the hotel around 11 am Saturday to do a pre-check-in and drop our bags. My bf asked if it was possible for us to check-in early and they said they would have a room ready for me between 1pm - 2pm. We left and went along with the schedule that I had a planned for that day. Around 1:30pm, my bf received a call from the hotel saying I could check in early and it would be a $25 fee to do so. We acknowledged the fee which was no problem and headed to the hotel. Once at the hotel we were told that the room was in fact not ready and that we would now have to wait until 4pm to check-in. This was a total inconvenience because we left the event we were at early in order to come check-in! This resulted in us waiting around on the room to get ready (thankfully there's pizza nearby but again only there bc we were told to come back) . So now we are fillabusting time which coulda have been avoided. My bf failed by not asking who the rep was so we can't name drop him but we definitely were called back to the hotel early and not accommodated as offered. Valet service: Overnight valet is $60 a night and we stayed at the hotel for 3 days and 2 nights. Saturday night, we had dinner reservations at 9pm. We went down stairs to get the car around 8:30-8:40. We WAITED OVER 24 for them to bring the car around. Then the wrong car was originally brought and the staff didn't even realize. The car was left there and later i realized it was a black truck like ours so I told my bf go to the desk they don't even realize that's the wrong car... then it still took a hit. was Another couple waited 45 mins and another couple waited 20 mins. I never judge staff and what their hands are tied up with but there was only about three couples and four to five employees behind the desk or so. Room: I SAW A ROACH. I saw a roach on the wall and by the time I got a shoe it crawled behind something in the wall. Lord. So we kept our bags zipped up and removed everything from that area. We were leaving the next morning so I didn't find a reason to complain at the time. The room was nice. We stayed on the 20th floor with a balcony and city views. I was told that house keeping came by your room daily but in this case they did not. The sheets were cleaned daily and some things. Or replaced. The balcony hadn't been swept either as we saw remnants of the last guests. They KNOW people love a balcony so that should have been cleaned before we used the room. We left Sunday morning around 10am and didn't return until after 5pm. Housekeeping had not been to our room until I called and asked if they could come bring some fresh towels and wash cloths. I think this hotel is beautiful and honestly it's small things that made this stay unpleasant which really could have been avoided. the check in process, the attention to detail in the room, the valet situation- then the roach to top it off? Just made this weekend not one of the best. Had those smaller things nor happened this hotel is so beautiful I would live to come back. I love the elevator, the cute lobby, the little food kitchen shop on the side- it also has a great location ! But I just went the visit went much smoother.

Yelp
After staying at a few subpar places on my last vacations, I figured my girlfriends and I would stay at a nice Hyatt for our weekend in Atlanta. We decided on downtown because we were told this is the area where there are things going on however we found none of that. The hotel itself was very nice and our room was spacious and clean however the elevators ran poorly and some of them would open and close 5 to 6 times before moving. The crowd of people that hung around outside were very ,very sketchy and so was some of the clientele at the hotel. This area is very unsavory, especially at night. The only plus is that the train is right next to it making it very easy to go straight to the airport.

Yelp
The Hyatt Regency Atlanta provides a dependable experience. The hotel is conveniently located next to the Peachtree station for the Marta. This is an excellent plus for the hotel. If you are traveling to and from the airport. It makes your experience easier. Also traveling around the city via Marta is easy when it is next door. The Hub is right above the station and is attached to the hotel via a bridge. It has a variety of food options, pharmacy, etc. Thus if you have forgotten anything it is right next door to you. And having multiple food options next door is a great option. If you brought your vehicle you can use the valet. It is fifty dollars a day. Or you can choose a city lot they are less expensive. There are a variety of rooms to choose from. The hotel has two different towers along with the main rooms. It also has a multiple conference rooms. The staff have always been friendly. We requested an early check in. We completed the process with all of our information early that way we could walk in and grab our keys when we arrived. We left our bags with concierge. We arrived at 12pm. We were able to check in at 2pm. We appreciated being able to check in early. The hotel has two restaurants and a bar. The food is ok. There is a marketplace area to grab food, drinks, forgotten items etc. And another smaller market area around the corner from the check in which is just a little less expensive than the main market area. The Hyatt Regency Atlanta is a good choice if you're looking for a place to stay.

Yelp
I can't complain about ANYTHING. I booked a 1 night stay in a walk out balcony room for about $150 at the time. My only suggestion is to pay the valet fee so your car and valuables are safe. Otherwise you'll have to park at a flat rate offsite parking lot, and at that point just leave your windows down enough for someone to stick their arm in and just open it up so you don't have a broken window. This is still Atlanta‍

Yelp
Oh my goodness! I stayed here for a school field trip. I was dropped off by a bus and the hotel has charged me for 2 days of valet parking. I didn't drive!!! This has been one of the frustrating experiences. I have called over 20 times! I want my money back in my account NOW!

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel! Very classy and opulent! I really enjoyed my convention and it was so well organized, with great signage and a spacious area where we could network and grab food and drinks. The restrooms were clean and private, because I needed to change before my flight. I highly recommend this hotel for conferences. I didn't stay there, but my friends enjoyed their stays.

Yelp
Had a really disgusting experience when getting into our room. Gross experience. Sad because it's a big and really nice facility. The valet staff was nice and even though it's 50 dollars, for our peace of mind was convenient. Sadly, some things completely change the scenario and what we found in that room was a game changer. Even the staff was surprised. Just..nope.

Yelp
Reserved a room with 2 queens, was given a room in Regency Tower with one queen. The room is tiny and the bathroom minuscule with one pedestal sink, toilet on angle to fit. No real dresser, just a couple of small drawers about 12" wide in the closet which also houses a small safe and small refrigerator. As a result you can't hang a pair of slacks or a long dress because there isn't enough length. Room is clean but minimal and cramped. For a Hyatt Regency it is very disappointing.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful. I love the open floors and the visible lit up elevators. And the security is excellent. But I do have many complaints. First, there was not a fitted sheet on our bed, just the mattress pad, the ice machine on my floor (22) did not have any ice the two days we stayed. I had to go down to other floors for ice, very annoying. I did call guest services about it, nothing done. The TV would not stay connected to cast, the A/C was very loud and don't get me started on the pool chairs. They were either wabbley or missing parts to keep the chair up right. So it would just fall while you're sitting on it. Very embarrassing. The only mirror in the king room was in the bathroom NO FULL LENGTH. Now, when people travel, most likely it's for a special occasion, therefore a full length mirror should be provided, or at least another mirror besides the one in the bathroom. I called guest services they said there was a mirror available. They said they would send it up, but they never did and I even called them back and we never got the mirror.

Yelp
Everything cost you in this hotel, everything. $30 for parking, $35 for breakfast, $4.00 for a bottle of water. I was here on one day of business, for just one night in this hotel cost over $200+. I had to ask if there was a cost to use the lobby restroom. Only thing I looked forward to was check out. Never again. $$$$$

Yelp
Overall I would give this hotel a 4.5/5! We stayed for two nights for a kpop concert and wanted a nice hotel to stay in that was walking distance to good spots and the State Farm arena. It was around a 10-15 minute walk from our concert! We also loved that it's connected to the Hub which is this little shopping plaza/food hall connected to MARTA (the train system). It is connected to Peachtree station which was perfect since we just took MARTA from the airport to our hotel! We got a room with a king bed and it was super spacious and comfortable. Room and sheets were clean and the bathroom was a decent size. Not super spacious but not too small. Plenty of room for what we needed. I also liked the complimentary toiletries - they smelled super nice! My only complaint is the food. Definitely overpriced, especially the breakfast at the restaurant. We only got breakfast at the marketplace grab and go section once. The restaurant for the buffet was minimum $20 per person. Also, when we got back from the concert we were starving and ate at the bar area. The kitchen took FOREVER for our entrees. Our appetizer came out and it was over an hour for mediocre wings and a burger. I almost canceled our entrees; that was how long they were taking. The waitress even came by with the bill thinking we had gotten the rest of the food and we were like ummm no we were still waiting! We didn't go to bed until almost 2 am. Also, I would recommend going to the CVS at the hub which is connected to the hotel for water bottles. This hotel is not reusable water bottle friendly and the only water bottle brands in the hotel were Dasani and Smart Water. Overall, we will stay here again though. We just won't be eating here. Atlanta is a kpop concert hub so I am sure we will be back!

Yelp
Hyatt Regency goes above and beyond for every year at Dragon Con! Much appreciated by all us! Such a blast and the staff is fabulous!

Yelp
Found a room last minute. Guests services and valet were very helpful in getting us checked in and situated coming in close to midnight. Unfortunately their parking was full so we had to park offsite (about a 5 min walk) for $25 a night. Stayed for 1 night and enjoyed our room. It was clean, beds were comfy. Wifi worked well so we had everything we needed for a quick stay for the price. We enjoyed our stay. Small upkeep issues I noticed (such as elevator/ walkway area cleanliness) is what caused the 4/5 stars.

Yelp
I like this hotel because it has underground restaurants/shops, which makes it convenient for travelers to have a variety of options when short on time or when they don't want to go outside. The inside is spacious and clean. They hold a lot of conferences and therefore there are lots of rooms. However, we never had to wait long for an elevator even though the hotel was all full , because they had a good number of elevators there for everyone. The rooms are clean and the hotel TV is a great size - pretty large. The bar downstairs is typical hotel bar pricing- around $15-$20 for a drink. The bad thing about the rooms here are the walls are thin. I could hear the stuff outside, as well as the noise from the bar well past 1am, even though I am on the 9th floor. I do like that it's walking distance from the coca cola musuem as well as the CNN tower and the aquarium.

Yelp
This is not what I would expect from the Hyatt Regency brand. The hotel is very dated and the service is well below par.

S G.

Yelp
Like any other hotel room except for two things that were below that of what you can expect at a Hyatt. The sheets were extremely loud when rustled, felt like plastic, and clearly had a low thread count. Like those you would expect at a motel. The WiFi was also inoperable. Otherwise very nice amenities and inside.

Yelp
NOTE: Room service hours are all over the place. The paper menu handed at check-in says Sway is open Mon-Fri 7-11am/Sat-Sun 7am-12pm/Tues-Sat 11:30-2pm; the voicemail after dialing room service says daily 7am-6pm; calling the number on Sway's Yelp says daily 6am-12pm, 5pm-12:30am; the QR code doesn't permit me to order until tomorrow; and the front desk told me to refer to the paper menu. I stayed here for 3 nights and still don't know when room service is available lol For COVID safety purposes, some staff wear masks. It's... Fine. Like others have mentioned, your mileage may vary based on your tower allocation. I found myself in Radius Tower. Decent location in Hotel District, central to several restaurants. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable (and generously provided a complimentary new key for each of the 3 times I lost mine.......) LOBBY: - Grand, open space with balconies facing inwards - Meticulously cleaned, spotless throughout the waiting area and restaurant entrances - Several dining options right at the ground level - Quick and painless check-in, with kind and courteous staff at every corner - Can store luggage at concierge for free if you're checking in early, or checking out but still in the area (super nice when my check out was at 11a while my flight was at 7p) RADIUS TOWER (room 666): - Need key card to access elevator entrance; thankfully F A S T elevators - Close to underground mall area, just past the enclosed hallway - Boutique hotel feel, located to the right of the lobby bar - Communal microwave available on the first floor - Unique room setup, in which 3 elevators form a triangle between the room blocks; floor plan makes use of angles to optimize the limited space - Fridge is located in the closet, along with a safe - Bed is soft, but comforter is quite thin and stiff... Pillows are also very limp. Feels a bit cheap - A/C keeps turning on by itself when I turn it off for some reason LOL - Bathroom has limited counter space, but otherwise fine. Fairly clean and decent water pressure The highlight for me was the small mall area, Peachtree Center, connected to the lobby. Food court, CVS, barber, nail salon-- everything in a 5 minute walk. Food's OK, it's more the convenience I appreciated (esp not having to go outside in the humidity).

Yelp
I stayed at the Hyatt Regency for a conference and my reviews were mixed: Location: the location was well situated to a lot of amenities like the museums, publix, theater, etc. which I loved! Room: the rooms were modern and mostly clean. - one of the sheets were dirty but I just pulled it off and used the other sheets. - there were a TON of electrical outlets and even the usb cord inserts which was helpful. Plenty of lighting. - I stayed in a balcony room. The balcony wasn't in the best condition. Also, the view wasn't great. My balcony overlooked other hotels. Throughout the day and night, you could hear loud thuds as if someone was dropping something off a balcony. Also, lots of city sounds. - while it was modern, you could tell that the hotel cut cost on maintenance. The drain in the shower was scratched badly, the ceiling was patched poorly, etc. Staff: I had mixed experiences with the staff. The guys on the conference levels were extremely friendly and welcoming. As were the front desk staff. However, the staff at the Market place were not. Food: the food was overall good. They had many allergy friendly items as coordinated with the conference planning staff. However, the labeling was inconsistent and some of the food staff weren't willing to actually give you a breakdown of what you could eat. The conference planning staff requested takeaway containers for all meals but they were not available at the first dinner. For the to-go lunch, I had to request a gluten free option and it was a very homely turkey sandwich. - also there was only one microwave (rumored to be one more in another tower) for the whole hotel. It was extremely filthy.

Yelp
So from reading some of the other reviews, there's a difference in rooms depending on the tower you're in. I was in the updated tower, I guess because my room was super nice and sleek. Very clean. I love using Chromecast to watch my Netflix and other media. LOTS of work space for laptop setup as well. I ate from the market few times and everything was hotel solid - meaning it's not FINE dining, but it gets the job done. I also like the bar in the lobby - GREAT drinks. The location is great - there's a hub shopping/eating center just a block up with some GOOD choices.... shout out to Beni's Cubano for the cuban coffee. The ONE drawback for me is that my room door didn't completely lock every time - there was a trick to the handle and I had to double/triple check every time. I REALLY like this hotel and would be more than happy to stay here again.

Yelp
First of all, the lobby is AMAZING. I was gobsmacked walking in for the first time. I couldn't help looking up to the ceiling every time I walked into the building. For me, the hotel lobby is very important. The elevators were super efficient - never waited for more than 2 or 3 minutes. Room was VERY clean and spacious. Did have some issues with smells. Occasionally, it smelled like smoke, dust, and sawdust in the room - not sure if they were coming from the air conditioner. We called up an engineer who didn't help us at all. Then, the supervisor came up and said that the room was newly renovated, and that the smell could be from that. Either way, it was a bit disappointing for the price that we paid. Regardless, we enjoyed our stay in the downtown Atlanta area.

Yelp
I want to thank the Hyatt Regency Atlanta for the wonderful hospitality that I received when I stayed there last week. When my flight was delayed (we won't get into that), they took good care of me by giving me as late of a checkout as they could (4pm), and held all my bags securely while I found a way to kill two more hours. Even during the stay every staff member I ran into greeted me with a smile, asked how everything was, and made sure I was OK and that the stay was going good. I've stayed here many times in the past and will continue to stay here because of the level of service I have (and continue to) receive.

Yelp
Warmly greeted by the front office staff as we stopped for the night halfway through our cross east coast trip. After a well played schpeel telling us about how we were upgraded to a better room(we were not), we proceeded to our fictitiously upgraded room. No self parking and Valet was not worth it for the night, so had to park in a public parking garage a couple of blocks away. Will not slam the hotel for its location, but I was not amused by being proposed by the street walker on the corner, let's just say that I wouldn't walk around the area alone after certain hours. The staff is warm and attentive and doing their best to make the guests feel welcome and show genuine appreciation for our preference. Will definitely consider again when back in the area, just need to consider the inconvenience of an off site self park and not let our guard down if we decide to walk around.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff were all so incredibly friendly and the room was just stellar. The lobby is huge, with lots of different seating throughout. The bar connecting to the lobby often gets busy, so it's nice to have that overflow seating. They have the fastest moving elevators, I've ever ridden on, that somehow DIDN'T make my belly flop every time. One of the days, I was eating lunch in the lobby and accidentally spilled my soda. Thankfully it was all on the tile and not on any fabric. I went to the front desk to let them know and see if I could help clean it up. He was so calm and nice, and just said that he would make sure to get it taken care of. The room was so spacious and had a great shelving unit at the entrance to make it easy to get everything ready for the next day's sessions. Not to mention that it is close to EVERYTHING. Pretty much on top of the Peachtree MARTA station, and right by all sorts of yummy restaurants and shops.

Yelp
We made the last minute choice to stay here for the SEC Championship game. It was not a great experience at all. When we arrived, we were told there was no parking available because they sold it to non-hotel guests (a manager said this was normal so don't expect to park at the hotel). We couldn't self park there of valet as they were both full. We were scrambling as they were rushing our check-In so we could move the car off the premises. It was raining outside and rain gets on their very slick entrance (despite some of an awning) and it was incredibly slippery. My mom took a nasty fall and ended up injuring herself hours before kickoff. It was only then that put out a caution sign at the door. Despite it being a busy weekend, they had many of the areas in the hotel still closed and finding food after was a challenge but we opted for the bar and some appetizers. They were packed so it was a bit of a wait but their service staff was working so hard! Unfortunately, when we went to check out, they had doubled our tab. We were able to get this reversed as it was inaccurate but definitely check your bill! They wouldn't let me pay that night, telling me I had to charge it to my room so we didn't discover it until hotel check out time. Overall, I would never stay here again. And because of the parking situation, I don't think it's the safest for women or elderly people. I won't be back.

Yelp
In my Jay Z voice, "... it's about to go down"! Please know that such as life, I have options... many options! Less expensive options... but I chose this place! There were so many pros about this place but the cons were unbelievable. I was impressed with the customer service I received before arriving. I received several emails regarding parking and addressing any concerns I may have in advance. I actually did happen to have one concern and it was settled the same day, a week prior arrival! Great news right! I was also told I could check in early if needed; early being any time after 9:00am. I arrived at 12pm. Roomed by 1:00pm. I was so grateful for the complimentary early check in. Soooo, I walk into my huge spacious room w a balcony and view and wow! After I finish taking all the pictures I could, my husband and I took a nap in our super comfy bed. After a few hours we decide to get up and ready to hit the city, so we go to take a shower and boom... this disgusting rustic sewage scent reeks from the shower! By this time we had already been there for hours laid down and was pretty much happy with everything else aside from the scent. But the plot thickens, there was hair everywhere!! Long hair, straight hair, kinky hair, kinky hair, just hair! Now although I have long hair, it wasn't mine because my hair is braided up & I'm wearing synthetic hair and the hair throughout my room wasn't even the same color as the synthetic hair I'm wearing. Life goes on right, ok so I come in in the evening time to use the ladies room and it's a seat is filled with urine splats on the seat! I live with 3 guys, I know what urine looks and smells like! I'm no stranger to cleaning so I cleaned it. But even afterward there was a stitch that hung around my toilet area it was a funk that would not leave. This experience was so bad for me that I ended up counting the amount of times that I had to spend in the bathroom meaning if I'm checking out on Monday and it's Sunday, I know that I have 4 more times to use shower, etc. These were obvious cleaning mistakes that were made by this hotel cleaning staff member (Nyelle D) and I'm very very shocked! I've stayed at Hyatt Hotels plenty of times and I've been overly satisfied. My fav to date is Hyatt House in Washington, DC. I thought going to this place (Hyatt Regency) would actually be a step up but it's actually steps below. O and another important fact, I want to mention how nice the staff was. I spoke with several staff members upon check in and a very nice girl upon check out and they were all fantastic and provided great customer service! It's very disheartening to have to write this review but it's even worse to have to stay in this mess of a hotel. I don't recommend this place to anyone to rest your head but I must say, the atrium itself has very nice restaurants. I would definitely visit again for the on site restaurant ONLY!

Yelp
Since writing my last review I have stayed at this location twice. In 2021 for 11 days and 2022 for 8 days. Both times I have been disappointed by the level of service I have received and the quality of the hotel experience. This hotel's staff has actually gotten worse over the phone, even though it was bad before. When trying to get ahold of anyone at the hotel for assistance its like pulling teeth. Routinely I have been cold dropped onto the 800 number by the operator rather than getting someone inhouse like I have asked. I was told this year to request a receipt for existing payments to call the 800 number, which I knew was wrong but I decided to give it a go to avoid the drama. When I did so I spoke to a rep who confirmed this and she offered to call the hotel herself to have them do it. She was told by a rep of the hotel, (a gentleman with a foreign name that I can't remember) that he would not email it to me and to tell me to come to the hotel front desk and he would write it down for me. This was at least 2 months before my check-in & I am not local. I filed a complaint. The next day I called & spoke to Ashley (front desk manager) who told me she got my complaint and would send me the receipt. She did comp me two days of breakfast but I'll be honest I would have rather had good service. When it came time for them to take the remaining balance for our event they did not take the deposit and instead of sending an email out to inform people why, they stayed silent. All the social media was flooded with concerned persons scared for their reservations, which are extremely hard to get for this event. I attempted to call several times and nobody in their operations would pick up the phone, including for the main line, who had no information. I was finally advised the next day by Nick that they had issues with their payment systems and that all balances should be taken out that day. Overall this error on their part could have been less stressful with communication. A few days before my check in on August 30th, I called to confirm that they had me in an ADA room in the international tower, which they confirmed. This request is because I use a mobility device and getting around the hotel in the main tower can be impossible during my event, even when using the service elevator. It has never been an issue in the past to get these rooms, but I always check just incase. I called the hotel when I was on my way from the airport to ask if I could check into my room early which I was told I could. At that time I also was told I would be in the ADA international tower room. The front desk put me in the main tower when I checked in however. I said that I had called in an hour ago and that he said he had a room for me in the international tower. I also said I could wait if there was not one for awhile. The staff person then said he would change it and gave me a room key that had a number on the 22nd floor and "international tower" written on the envelope, however when I went to the international tower I found out that the number did not exist, that it was in the main one. I had to go again to the front desk, only for the guy to go back and talk to his office staff. When he came back he was very nervous and told me there was no rooms available. I told him then that I would wait, which he responded there would be none available that day. I then asked if I checked into another room for the night could I switch the next day. He told me no. At this point I knew something was up, because I knew there was no way the whole tower was full for the event, as most people check in on the Thursday and Friday. I tried in vain to explain that I needed to have one in that tower due to my mobility issues, but he would not budge he just told me it was an upgraded view, which I told him I didn't care about. I asked to speak to the hotel manager by name and he said he thought they were available and went back again to the office. One of the workers, I believe it was Pam based on prior stays, came out into the threshold of the office door and just glared at me and went back. The desk person then came back with an ADA room in the international tower available. I never got to speak to the manager. I do not know why I was being discriminated against, but it absolutely felt like I was being shunned by the staff of this hotel because of my disability. I also had issues with simple requests like getting a chair without arms sent up to my room (which they have done in the past) and getting maid service when there was an issue with my bed linen and I could not wait the 4 days until the next maid service. There was also service issues with the staff at their bar (Mo) and trying to get the electronic key to work. Will I stay again? Yes, but only because of the event. Hopefully I will have a better experience next year. I was told I'd get a call from a manager when i said something at check out but never did get one or an email.

Yelp
We stayed here for a weekend of site-seeing since it was in walking distance to the Aquarium and other attractions. We prepaid for our full stay using the travel option in the Amex app, 2+ months in advance. When we arrived at the hotel we were told our room wasn't available and we'd have to take a queen room and move the next day. We refused this and a manager magically appeared and gave us a king room. The room was dirty. Confetti on the floor and buffalo wing sauce all over the couch. The tub took an hour to drain after a shower. This hotel is really a dormitory for events. Super disappointing and regardless of location it should be avoided.

Yelp
Booked a king balcony suite months in advance for New Year's Eve. When we arrived in Atlanta we were downgraded to a tiny sliver of a circle room with a queen bed and barely room to move. Customer service was condescending and rude and unwilling to offer decent compensation for their mistake. They took $25 off the total cost. It was insulting. We'll never book with this company or it's affiliates again.
