So I'm going to take a break now from catching up on a backlog of reviews of places from our cruise earlier this year, to post a review of probably the most *surreal* one-night hotel stay I've had this year (when we got back). Surreal in the sense that I packed a suitcase for a night, then parked my car at home, and *walked* down the street with it to check into a hotel for one night. You might be curious why we did that - the guy checking us in certainly was! So, we had finally got around to doing a major renovation on our flooring, which we'd put off until after that trip, and we decided last minute that it would probably be better to spend the night in a hotel than live in a condo where boxes were literally covering the kitchen and both the bathrooms, and I had some Hyatt points, so we used them!
Extra bonus: due to a partnership with the cruise line and Hyatt, our cruise had just given us corresponding Hyatt loyalty, so this would be our first time trying them out! I *am* pleased to report: as soon as we checked in online, their website gave us a room number and told us we'd been upgraded to a better view room for free due to our loyalty. (Not an enormous upgrade, but still, thanks Hyatt and Celebrity?) And the view *was* legitimately quite nice - we live in downtown Long Beach, we walk by this hotel all the time, but 15 floors up definitely does get a much nicer view than ground level of the harbor!
Anyway, apart from that, for the most part, it was a perfectly reasonable place to spend a night (definitely more comfortable than in a house where everything had been taken apart and moved wherever). There were enough outlets around, the wifi worked fine, there was a fridge that worked fine, AC worked fine (important, in the summer!). Checkin was quick, checkout was even quicker (self-checkout online.) Bed was... alright (it was a little hard, but serviceable.)
Weirdly, I will say, the checkin area looked pretty new, our room felt pretty well maintained, but the hallway between the elevator and our room felt like it either hadn't been maintained in decades, or possibly was currently under construction? Apart from that, and potentially the price (thanks Chase for the Hyatt points, too!), really the only complaint would be the bed. Wasn't a nightmare to sleep on (I've stayed at a couple hotels like that, bed-wise), but it was a bit hard. And the location would definitely be perfect if you were traveling and doing things downtown - tons of great food nearby, and the convention center is literally next door. (It just *happened* that the location was also perfect for someone whose downtown condo's floors were getting replaced. Still impressed they did it in 2 days! The following day, I walked back home, got in my car, drove to work, drove home, and we had new flooring!)
