We just returned from a wonderful week-long vacation at Hyatt Ziva with our extended family (toddlers, kids, grandparents). I don't think the resort was anywhere near full, since we were always able to get beach chairs, pool chairs, towels and restaurant seating. If you are looking for a place with a great, private beach, variety of pools, kids club, clean rooms and great food, look no further. The weather in July was also fantastic, with only 1 or 2 night time rainstorms the entire week and hot, partly cloudy skies most days.||Beach: The resort had two main seating areas near the beach, in front of each tower. The waves were not as calm as the Caribbean, but were still fine for my kids to play in without trouble (even the red flag days just had slightly higher waves). The water was quite warm and the private nature of the beach was great. Most days we were able to get front row or second row beach chairs for our whole group without much trouble at all. Go in the morning though, as the sand gets HOT in the afternoon. There are also lots of hermit crabs that come out in the evening, especially on the sand in front of Blaze. My kids loved looking for them. No turtles hatching yet, though.||Pools: We spent most of our afternoon time at the shady "kids" pool in front of the Main tower. It was deep enough to be fun for older kids and had lots more shade seating than the rest of the pools. There is another family infinity pool that is great in the morning before the sun gets too intense, but the seating there is harder to come by with all of the cabanas. The cabanas really obscure the view of the pool for parents watching little kids, so I wish they had at least one of the family infinity pools with more direct sightline. I didn't want to spend $80-100 each day just to keep an eye on my kids playing. It wasn't hard to find chairs or towels at either pool, though.||Rooms: We read before our trip that the Club tower was preferable, but we were all located in the Main tower and it was wonderful! There is only one elevator working in that tower at the moment, so it's a little slow up and down at times, but nothing all that bad. Others mentioned construction in their reviews, but we didn't see any active construction during our entire trip. This appears to all be finished, other than one elevator being out of order. We really appreciated being about to get a King room with a pull-out couch and separate roll away bed for our two kids. This is not an option on the website when booking, but the front desk helped us arrange this when we arrived. Hyatt please make this an option online! Our housekeeper, Ideat, was amazing, too. The rooms on the second floor had a bit more pool noise in the evening, but generally the tower was really quiet between rooms and certainly more convenient to the kids pool for families. I would recommend trying to get your whole group in one tower, as there is actually a substantial walk between them. We did not book the club level, but didn't notice anything that we were prevented from doing as a result. ||Food: The restaurants were AMAZING for an all-inclusive. We were worried about being able to get tables for our 13 person group, but it was never an issue. The only place that required a reservation was the new teppanyaki restaurant, but that was easy to get. Blaze (on the water) had the nicest ambiance and good food. Blaze also has lunch, but most people seem to go to the buffet. They just relocated the beach-side asian restaurant, but I wish they would put something else in that space. Eating outside with a view is really nice at Blaze. The other restaurants also had great food and everywhere had lovely service. Our family really enjoyed the buffet for breakfast and lunch most days. There is also a small walk up food counter by the pools that had some bowls and ceviches. ||Kids Club: Our kids LOVED the kids club activities. They really only wanted to go to the afternoon craft sessions, but they always came out with painted rocks, bracelets, keychains, kites, face paint, etc. It was a nice place for them to go after lunch to cool off for a couple of hours each day. Despite what some older reviews mentioned, there is no playground at the kids club any longer. There was one day when the kids club had to close in the middle of the afternoon so the club counselors could go be in a fashion show for an hour (?), which seemed unnecessary and was sort of annoying as a parent.||Overall, this was a great resort and Puerto Vallarta was absolutely beautiful. We did one day trip to town, too, and it seemed very safe and clean. The airport is also easy to navigate. Don't book a shuttle through the resort, though. It's 2-3x more expensive than some of the other airport shuttle providers (TPV was great).
