Hyde park Bar & Grill - Westgate

So we came here after seeing a movie next door. The place was pretty empty so we were thinking the food would be hot, fresh and good. Nope, not at all. The greens were crunchy! We got the award winning fries and I'm not sure what award they won in the past but they were trash. Cold and tasted old. The shrimp and grits and were also not good. The grits were probably from way earlier in the day or the day before. Definitely would not recommend this place at all. Save your money folks, I felt like I got robbed for $80. The service was good though.

The food was fantastic. The prices are reasonable and portion size is appropriate. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon was great! Pancakes were fluffy and had flavor. The eggs were also fluffy and delicious. The chicken and Belgian waffle was very savory. The chicken was breaded and cooked perfectly. It was juicy. I would have preferred the chicken to be a thicker cut instead of the hammered thin piece, but it was as i said, cooked well and juicy. The waffle was absolutely perfect. Crunch outside, very soft inside. Overall we left happy and contented.

I absolutely love this place and have never been disappointed while dining in or out. They have delicious food and mouthwatering vegetarian tapas. Try their Signature fries, you wont be disappointed!! The space is casual, music not too loud, local art featured on the walls. They are def short staffed, as there was only 1 server on the floor. Our server Shawn (sp?) was quirky and upbeat. We ordered the fried avocado appetizer, which was good but not much seasoning in the breading really, it was definitely better with the slightly spicy sauce it came with. We also got the Hyde park fries large portion and he warned us that it was enough for 5-8 people. He was right about that! Lol We did see a small order which would have been a better choice for our table of 3. My guy ordered the chicken fried steak with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes, and I ordered the chicken fried chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes, my son had the meatloaf with the grits and mashed potatoes. The appetizers took a while to come out, then our entrees came about 5 minutes later. They accidentally gave my guy chicken, and the server noticed that when he got to the table so he gave him the plate anyway and said he'd get him the steak, we all finished eating by the time the CFS was done so we just had that boxed up to go. They did take the CFS off our bill without being asked to do so. The fried chicken was good, we haven't tasted the CFS yet, the green beans were fresh, young and tender but lacked seasoning. The mac n cheese was good but not spectacular. The meatloaf was a thick dense meatloaf that had good flavor and topped with French fried onions. The grits were okay but not great. We had the peach pudding dessert and oh my goodness! It's awesome! It's like if you had a pineapple upside down cake but substitute peaches and a tres leches mixed together you'd have this! Divine! The downside was definitely the cleanliness of this place. There was trash and food on the floors, tables were left dirty for quite some time and bussed very slowly, and as a server myself, I would have more pride in the dining room cleanliness and bust my tush to try to keep it cleaner. You have to wonder, if they let guests see this uncleanness upfront, how clean is it in the back, where we can't see?

Overall, not bad! Food was very average but good (don't get the broccoli if you're on a date, terrible breath), large drinks menu, slightly overpriced for the venue though, felt like a dressed-up chain restaurant. Wouldn't be my first choice but I'd go back!

Everything was delicious as always. Very friendly staff. I got the salmon with cheese grits and grilled Broccoli, and my sister got the meatloaf with greens and mashed potatoes. Yummo!!

Staff was great, albeit overwhelmed as they were probably short staffed. The food was ok, not much flavor in the red fish. Grits were good. Fried avocado was just that, fried avocado. They could make it better by adding some flavor to it. French frys were good and apparently a staple. Cocktails were alright. They were very accommodating for our large group, but I was not impressed with the food taste. Great food selection though.

Loved this place amazing good quality food. Environment is really nice and diner like. The options are sweet and simple but all dishes are impressive. Loved their fries!

We ate here just before happy hour ended at 5:40pm, and very much enjoyed it. The happy hour deals they had were solid, as both the two smoked salmon cakes & large Hyde Park Fries below were only $5 each. What a deal!! We also got the BBQ bacon cheeseburger & meatloaf, both of which are pictured below. The burger was alright, and my fiancé really liked the meatloaf. She was also very happy with the grits & mashed potatoes that came with it as well. Last, our server Lucas was excellent. 5/5 rating for him as he was quick and incredibly attentive, and provided us with fantastic service throughout our meal.

I haven't been here in awhile and I was underwhelmed and for a few reasons. Upon entering, we were greeted by a very friendly bartender. I didn't get her name but she was super nice. We were told to sit wherever we would like. It wasn't busy so we grabbed a booth near the window. We were met promptly with someone who got us menus and water and then we waited and waited and waited. Our waiter had a huge table of about 15 people to close out. By the time he got to us he seemed annoyed and was quite short with us a few times when we asked a few questions. My friend ordered the mahi mahi tacos; which she enjoyed. I ordered the HP veggie burger. It didn't come with any sides- no fries, no chips. It was just a sandwich on a plate. :( I enjoyed the sandwich but at least throw some potato chips on the plate. Sandwiches and burgers should always come with a little something on the side. Am I right? As we were leaving, a gentleman was standing by the "please wait to be seated" sign. My friend went into the restroom so I was just waiting myself. He waited and waited. Nobody came to help him. The sweet bartender was outside clearing a table. So I politely told her that the gentleman was waiting and nobody was helping him. She rushed right in to help him. Kudos to the friendly bartender. :) I understand that things have changed since Covid but the service wasn't up to par in my opinion. Food was okay. I don't think I will put that on my list of places to run back to anytime soon.

My meal here was not memorable at all. The waitress recommended the veggie Burger, which they make in house. It was OK. Worse was our fries were just warm, not hot. Either they were not freshly made or she let them sit too long before she brought them to our table. Our server was very pleasant but distracted and just not a good waitress. She forgot our drinks and then forgot to remove them from the bill. She disappeared when we were ready to pay, and I had to get the manager to settle our bill. This has not been my experience at the original location, so when I am craving some Hyde Park fries, I will go back to the Duvall location..

We have eaten here twice and I must say this place is a hidden gem! Our church friends brought us here and I'm so god they did! Everything I've had here is so delicious! The first visit was the chicken fried steak! Super fresh and flavorful! I love that they put the gravy on the side. My second visit was the cheeseburger. Their fries are definitely award winning! SO GOOD! Their Mac and cheese is yummy! Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything! It's always great no matter what we try! They do however seem to be short staff. So just be patient with your servers. I can't wait to try something new the next time!

Thanks fellow Yelpers- I also don't understand why they aren't rated higher. Years ago we always had Thanksgiving dinner at their other location near UT - always reminds me of a good ole neighborhood restaurant. Lunch today. Plenty of parking- seated right away. Friendly server #808 - didn't get her name. Daughter had their veggie burger with a side of their outstanding fries. She loved it. Wife had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. The sauce was a bit spicy for her taste (next time sauce on the side). I had the pan roasted chicken breasts. Two skin on chicken breasts. With mashed potatoes and broccoli. Very good. Really nice atmosphere- great food friendly staff. It's a 5.

I do not understand the low reviews we went this evening and had salmon, collard greens and buttermilk mashers. Chicken guacamole BLT with fries. All was fresh tasty hot and flavorful. The waitress was great fast friendly and accommodating. We had iced tea and mescal Paloma. Drink was strong and had a good flavor tea was fresh. The outside lights were extra special

4 o'clock, after a doctor's appointment. Not quite dinner time, but we were both hungry, just not quite dinner hungry. Time for fried things! This was my first time with Avocado Fries, and they were just right. The beer-battered green beans weren't quite as wonderful as I'd found them before--somehow the batter didn't stick or they weren't cooked exactly right. They were good, just not great! Both were discounted for Happy Hour, which makes it easy to forgive the minor glitch. I shared the pastrami sandwich and fries with my friend--both were wonderful. Hyde Park Fries are just the best. Our server was perfect, there when we meet him. Hyde Park is always a solid choice.

I've driven by this place so many times but never stopped in because it just didn't jump out at me I guess and when I see "bar" on a sign, I usually don't go there. But this place is less of a bar and more of a grill for sure. They have an interesting, eclectic menu with lots of varying options to choose from. It kinda had an old vibe to it - think, slightly more upscale Golden Corral without the buffet. ha! Our server was great and food came out quickly. I had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. It was ok but nothing great. $17 seems a little steep for it. It'll probably be a while before I decide to go back.

Great food. Slow & crappy service. Currently they have limited seating, so there are less tables to wait on. We saw other waiter staff bustling drinks in/out to other tables. But our guy would disappear for long periods. Drinks unfilled, wine not brought, appetizer served brought out at the same time as the meal bc he forgot. The food was good, it probably would have been a lot better if it were served hot. That's not the kitchen's fault but geez...it all could have been better. It's beautifully decorated outside. Perhaps that hyped me up about this place which made me expect more than I received.

Have had some good delivery from here. Well packaged and some things are quite tasty even after reheating. Worth giving them a try. Never ate inside that I can remember, but satisfying.

TL;DR: Only if you have unlimited time, love all things fried, and want to come out smelling like it. HPB&G is due a post-pandemic update, since many things have changed. Again, the setting was Sunday brunch, so it should yield a comparable experience, right? Wrong. When it comes to adherence to pandemic-safe protocols, some credit here. I initially wanted an end booth rather than a window table. Then the hostess informed me every other table was being skipped for safety, so we went with the window seating offered. By state law, they could have been fully seated. However, as I would soon discover, there was another reason half of the tables were empty. Our hostess doubled as wait staff for the first 15-20 minutes of our sojourn--not an uncommon practice. She offered and served water and adult beverages. Once the hostess turned us over to our waitress that was the end of good service. Unfortunately, the young woman serving us truly put the "wait" in waitress. It was the total "first day, first table" experience. I mentioned the daily chef's special that I'd seen online and asked for pricing. She was unaware in that "We have a special?" kind of way. She did offer to check on it. Another 30 minutes rolls by and she asks if we're ready to order. I asked about the special price again, and she said she'd have to check on it. Another 20 minutes went by. Finally she tells me the price, and suddenly the special wasn't so special after all. Given it had taken us an hour to get to the order point, I gave up and ordered a $12 grilled chicken sandwich. That was the most health-conscious thing left below $20 on HPB&G's menu (other than a three-side $13 veggie plate). From that point, it was just a litany of slow service, lukewarm meh food, and incorrect bar orders (salty dog instead of greyhound--hey, they're both dogs, right?). At least we had lots to talk about because there was certainly plenty of time to discuss. We were there 2 hours at least. I give everyone a break due to the pandemic staffing crisis in the service industry, but this was quite egregious and inexcusable. A footnote of concern. I set aside the shirt from that day, because I left smelling like eau de fryolator. I set aside the shirt and can still smell it four weeks later. That'll wash out. What's more concerning in a pandemic environment is for that to be the case, air exchange is not occurring. Moreover, it's backing up from the kitchen when it should be traveling in the opposite direction. Two-point-five stars, rounded up to 3 for goodwill because I know they're capable of doing better. Just not right now.

Best part of our meal were the drinks and appetizers! Beer Battered Green Beans were crisp, fresh; the dipping "sauce" was little more than mayo. Steamed Dumplings were tasty and the spicy sauce made the dish! Cajun Redfish was only very slightly overdone and the plentiful sauce was fine, but sort of bland. Served with okay polenta. Absolutely not enough heat or spice to call the dish "Cajun." I chose grilled broccoli as the side; it WAS grilled and had that hint of smokiness, but was VERY crunchy (underdone). In contrast, the Bacon Glazed Meatloaf's sauce was very flavorful but it was also too thick and there was not enough of it to flavor the mini loaf. The meatloaf, itself, was dense but tasted "fine." The fried onion topping was chewy (stale?). Mashed potatoes were average with a hand-mashed texture. The collard greens side, like the broccoli, was very underdone. Unfortunately, when one doesn't completely cook collards, they are bitter. So, they added nothing to the plate. We applaud the bartender for creating a fun, fruity, yummy happy-hour selection! And our server was definitely an up-seller. Grateful for him because we would not have tried the best parts of the meal without him!! I've been here before for lunch with a much better outcome. I might stick to lunch choices in the future.

First time trying this place, and honesty not bad. Hubby and I got the same Chicken and Waffles and the chicken was great nice big thick and JUICY! The only thing is that the fried batter comes right off as soon as I cut into chicken but it's ok. The waffles were nice and fluffy however I feel like it lacked flavor In my opinion they didn't have much flavor but they were still good with syrup. Their FRIES!!! OMG!!! So GOOD!!! I highly recommend those baby's!! The customer service was great! Very professional,nice and attentive! I didn't get a chance to take pictures of the inside but it's big and a lot of seating! We will be back soon!

Not what it once was. The Hoky carpet sweeper waits,stoic with its bent handle, in silent contemplation of the littered floor. An entire roll of candy apple red duct tape has been used to "repair" the burgundy colored booths. It has become uninviting.

We periodically have lunch here and have a great experience every time. This was during before a virus storm was approaching and first cleaned our hands in the restroom. We were seated in a booth where this restaurant was busy. This made service a bit slower but no concern. Ordered the Pan Roasted Chicken but first got the Hyde Park Fries as an appetizer. The fries is the marquee item to get here where all the other menu selections rotate around it. The fries has a secret batter which makes it have a dry crispy coating which is very addictive. The fries alone can be a meal itself. The chicken was delicious and tasty. It came with mashed potatoes and broccoli. It was a lot but recommend perhaps making your side selection the fries versus an appetizer unless hungry. Overall the service was great and food too.

Met here for a family gathering and celebrating 2 birthdays that passed before we could return home to celebrate. So party of 8 in we ho. Masks mandatory for all unless you are sitting at your table. Drinks served promptly and orders taken. We got most of our food in a reasonable amount of time. We got the chicken fried steak, with fries & green beans and the Asian Chicken salad. Hand breaded CFS with a gravy boat of cream gravy. The CFS looked good, the gravy was clumped, not creamy. We aren't talking lumpy gravy. The fries were great. They came with fry dipping sauce and ketchup. The green beans were fresh cut the Asian chicken salad was good. Besides grilled chicken it had mandarin oranges, fried won tin strips and sesame seeds covered with their Asian dressing. We had a hard time getting the extra order of french fries we'd ordered. Took us 3-4 times of reminding the server before they came. Dessert was the best part - Wom Kim covered with heavy cream over the top. It defies description. Suffice to call it excellent. Over all the meal was slightly above average. We'll probably eat elsewhere and maybe go there for dessert.

Meh. Nothing was overtly bad but if someone asked if I wanted to go the answer would be no. Highlight was the burger-- good bun, fresh veggies, good meat. No issues there. That being said, the food came out only lukewarm, and the fries only taste like batter-- you can't actually taste any potato. My friend's salmon had this unfortunate char and the sauce that came with it did not taste homemade. Our server was nice but we had to ask for water refills, and he never really checked on us. All if this to say, no one hated their meal but we all agreed we didn't need to return.

It was nice! Food was good. My meatloaf was cold compared to the chicken fried chicken.

Fun neighborhood restaurant with laid back feel. I have ordered the salads with salmon and always enjoy my meal. Service has been friendly. The place is a bit worn, but works!

I was actually disappointed in my experience. I hadn't been to Hyde Park B&G in more than 5 years and it was as if nothing had ever changed. The environment hasn't been updated so it felt really old & used. We ordered an old fashioned & it was terrible - but only $5 so that's why. Our waiter seemed to be straight out of the "50 First Dates" movie & kept acting like he had never seen or spoken to us before. We literally thought we were being punked & recorded for a TV show. I will say my Asian salad & the Mexican Martini were terrific so made up for all of this.

You've got room for about ten more bar stools. You should buy some so people don't have to stand at the bar.

Hyde Park is our go to for a date night. It is by the Regal at Westgate, so my husband and I often come here when we have a dinner & movie night. We really like the atmosphere there and for the most part we've always gotten great servers and service when here. What keeps us coming back? Mostly the location. We live down south and it is close to our home. Also, it has chicken fried steak, which is a staple for the husband. We also really enjoy the fries and the dipping sauce! If you've read any of my other reviews, you know that I LOVE SAUCE, both dipping and alcohol :) Why just "a-ok"? I feel like the prices are a bit high and the food is a hit or miss. Mostly, I feel the drinks are priced highly if you aren't able to make happy hour. A typical dinner check for us is about $50, which is on the high side for food such as mac and cheese, chicken fried steak, and burgers. I mean, does Chili's still have their 2 for $20? My favorite is the cauliflower steak! It's really great and flavorful, but costs $12.99 for a slice of cauliflower... They have good daily specials and the lunch is better priced. Dinner is definitely on the pricey side, so I'd recommend happy hour or lunch.

Their fries are the BEST in town-- batter dipped, crispy pieces of potato heaven!! Their drinks are also great. Rest of the menu is solid- burgers, salads, grilled salmon, meatloaf-- something for everyone. Great outdoor space too.

I had the fries and the oil was obviously old, soggy fries. Eggs Benedict was poorly cooked . Salmon Patties were low quality- seemed like frozen cheap ingredients. Overall low quality

Have been going to HPBG for 20+ years. Haven't been in a while so decided to go today. I walked in, waited for 5 minutes at the host stand. No one greeted me or helped me or even said they would be with me shortly. So, I left.

One of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. The fries are insanely good (get them!!) I like the salmo!, and the Mediterranean salad is tasty and not guilty (til you have those fries) Great wait staff.

I've been dining here since around 2006 and have never experienced a bad dining moment; I've even gone here for just happy hour and loved it! The bartenders have always been kind and helpful. The food has always been consistent; super delicious and BOY OH BOY, the flavors are out of this world. The most recent bartender blew us away. He made two mean drinks ---- that means he was a heavy pourer and we weren't mad at him. (hee hee) We tipped him 30%. We will always return as long as it's open. Cheers to the staff, cooks and owner!

Hyde Park Bar & Grill seems to be an eclectic mix of a current Austin Craft-Food Pub and corner "Euro Pub/Cafe". This location is in a cool sorta gritty area off 71 just south of downtown Austin, sharing a mall parking lot with Whole Foods and Central Market... You get the idea. Audi's, Porsche's, a 65 Ford Fairlaine, a low-rider Chevy and a classic chopped Harley all resting in the parking lot give you an idea of the mix you are about to witness... Walking in the front door, you enter right by the bar. This is a community gathering (watering) spot! Not an empty seat at the bar! Craft Beers, very unique mixed drinks and the guests are trying them all. Yes, they have my favorite NW craft brew; "Black Butte Porter!" The Restaurant side (much bigger side) is open and light and food servers and staff are all over the place. The menu offers a great mix of appetizers, salads, burgers, pasta and nicely prepared salmon! There is something for just about every palette on their menu. Casual or snobby, fried or vegetarian... Servers are extremely hospitable and friendly. This was our second trip and won't be our last!

We got the sweet and savory burger, one with fries and one with the macaroni and cheese. I really want to go back and try the grits! The burger was so good! Juicy and that aioli was so good! I should have asked for more to dip my fries in. They gave us 2 fries instead of one so that was cool. The fries were really good! They were crunchy and soft. The macaroni was heavenly! It was so rich and cheesy! Overall the burger is solid, but the sides are amazing! We will be back

I recently went to The south location of HPBG. The food was good, as always. The waiter alerted us the kitchen was running behind. Fine. These days one has to pack their patience when going out to eat. However, what I can't abide is a filthy environment. We left the first room because I spent the first few minutes killing flies. We relocated to a booth. It was filthy: Noticeable Food remnants in the booth crevices, Stains on the backs of the cushions, dust in the corners. If we were at a biker bar or an outdoor situation - so be it. But, Hyde Park is not that. I brought it to the manager's attention very discretely . He apologized but made NO effort to rectify/ clean up the area and by this time our food has arrived. He made no offer to reseat, grab a towel or ask, how can we make this right. We finished our meal as quickly as possible. As we were paying out- I stuck my finger in gum. Damned near barfed at the table. We tabbed out, scrubbed up and got the f-out! On my way out with our toddler, I saw the manager and shared with him the gum situation. He said- "sorry " and kept moving. Y'all I am all for supporting local businesses. The pandemic has been hard on lots of entities. I can take slow kitchens and over worked staff , but I CANNOT abide an unclean environment. It makes you question what the sanitation practices are outside of view. It's just unacceptable and sorry don't cut it! I'll try to load the pictures.

Went here for a quick bloody mary and mimosa and ended up getting some fries. Everything we got was great! Will go back to try more food!

I've been here once before for a work happy hour but couldn't remember the food. I came here Sunday with a friend of mine and ordered the red fish tacos and they are SO GOOD. I want to come back here and try other items on their menu. This rating is only to review their food. The service was not good. We sat at the bar and we were right in front of the server, so I still expected him to notice that we hadn't ordered yet. But given the current circumstances of Covid, I will just assume they were short staffed.

Very good food and great service at the bar. We had the basket of fries which were very good with the dipping sauce. We also had a burger and smoked salmon cakes that were also very good. My honey comes here often on Monday's for the fried chicken which he and his friends give rave reviews along with Wom Kim's peach pudding. I have also heard that the malted fish and chips are good. They have a great menu with very good selections and I will definitely be back.

I've been going to Hyde Park Bar & Grill for probably a decade. I was introduced to it by friends years ago - the original Duval location - and when I found out that Westgate (Ben White Blvd) had a location, I started going there, also. Hyde Park's food has been good. Their meat loaf is excellent. Their lentil soup is worth getting at least a cup of, if not a bowl. Their chicken-fried chicken with their gravy is delicious. And their Hyde Park Fries should be ordered at least once. Usually the personal service at Hyde Park is good, too, but I had a split experience on my most recent visit in early May. My waiter wasn't terribly friendly and seemed like he was on auto-pilot. He was slow to bring parts of my order and refill my drink, and when he said "Sorry it was slow," (which he said at least twice) it was as if he was using the minimum amount of energy to do it. I thought to ask him if he was from New York City, but that would have been unfair to New Yorkers. Another waiter actually brought my main course over, and he was decidedly friendlier. I wanted to thank and compliment him before I left, but he had disappeared by that point. So, guy with the tied-back hair and facial growth, if you happen to read this, you were really groovy! I get that we're still in a pandemic and lots of us are tired, frustrated, even fearful. But places need to remember that customers feel some of the same things, and we come to your places of business to get a break from whatever's inside our heads. If we get a waiter who's just phoning it in, we'll remember. Next visit to Austin I'll be doing the Duval location once again, as I had a great experience there previously. I hope the Westgate location takes a look at this. Maybe it's just one bad apple.

Sad, depressing. Not the Hyde Park of 2019. Noon on a sat, maybe 12 people in the place. Glacier slow service and the food was old, stale, and a mere shadow of what it used to be. All signs or staff and ownership that has lost their passion are a merely going through the motions, waiting for the inevitable end.

Hmmmmmm... The food here is almost always 5 stars. I had an out-of-town friend visiting and I told her we had to have the fries before she flew home. It was a weird day. We show up at noon and they're turning people away because their computers are down. Seriously? Ugh. I guess the girl is not gonna get to try the fries. So...I hit the potty before we take off & what do you know? The computers are back up. Good. We really wanted to sit outside. There were about 4 tables with people already outside, but we weren't asked our preference. We were seated in a corner inside. Ok, not the greatest, but we get to eat here after all, so I guess it's just gonna have to be ok. Our server shows up and he seriously has the personality of a toad. Maybe that's being generous. I've been a server before, so I know how tough the job is. If you're working, and you're going to be a crabass to your customers, maybe you should take the day off. He leaves to get our drinks. I asked the hostess to move us outside. She said ok, then said she couldn't because of the chance of rain - not safe for the servers. Ok - we're stuck with Mr Wonderful. He even went off on another party who moved tables. Seriously - it was sad watching this. Train wreck. I felt bad for those customers. Who peed in his Wheaties this morning? Ugh The food was good as usual. The service sucked. It was weird. Will this deter me from coming back? Nope, but I will probably will stick with the Central location. The servers there aren't jerks. And you really can't match that ambiance. I will put up with a lot for those fries.

We happened to be in the area and needed some lunch. Saw the menu online and it looked pretty good. We entered the building and were greeted by the hostess. We elected to sit outside and a server was with us shortly after. I've had a few Paloma cocktails before so I tried it here but was a little disappointed with it. Had the fries which were so yum!! Entree's we had were the meatloaf and a chicken fried steak, also super yum. Be careful with the portions because they are HUGE! You definitely get your money's worth. Now the only reason for the rating is because another couple were waiting at a table outside without being approached for about ten minutes. Servers continued to assist other tables but they never thought to approach that table. We were frustrated about that situation even if it wasn't happening to us. Overall pretty good food if you're in the area.

Our group Got really sick after eating here. Booth was broken, drinks were ok. Food not.

Convenient location but food was underwhelming. Chicken fried steak was edible and all the crust fell off so I left that. I'm spoiled by the CFS in Bastrop. The mashed potatoes were a three and the collard greens were a one. The margarita was fair. Outside dining was pleasant. Server was friendly and attentive.

Hey what's up with you Yelpers out there? This place is SOOO Austin....delicious food/drinks/cocktails, atmosphere, music & staff! I drove 45 minutes just to come here for their famous frozen PainKiller & I have access to great restaurants near me!

Rude and unfriendly employees. Had to get our own silverware and napkins and there was hardly anyone there so I'm not sure what their deal there is! The food is pretty good, and I'm sure beer and wine are great, but I ordered a Paloma and it was the worst I've ever had! It was not drinkable and tasted like poison so it was left untouched and of course the server could have cared less and there was no management in site. Hopefully the other location is better!

I was kept waiting during lunch. Half the seats were marked as blocked off for COVID19 reasons. Austin is currently has a 0 death rate per day from COVID, the hospital beds usage for Travis County are less than 10% occupied by COVID patients. and Austin is considered to be at a low risk. Either you are actually having a staffing issue because you do not compensate well or you are not making informed decisions. In either case your customers are suffering.

So the atmosphere was chill and open (we sat on the patio) we were greeted and sat promptly, the fried avocado appetizer was delicious, I especially liked the sauce it came with! The dumplings tasted like they were microwaved and came out of a bag but my one year old loved them! I got the sweet and savory burger which was alright but I will get something different next time because I wasn't a fan of the chili or whatever the chunky stuff was on it (not their fault) my boyfriend got the ribeye, not sure if it was worth the money, I guess they cook it twice so the only way they can serve it is well done which disappointed him. Our server was a very sweet and attentive lady. Well be back for another try.

Have been eating at this Hyde Park for many years and was always good so very disappointed with meal tonight. The fried chicken was tasty but very small pieces and the sides left a lot to be desired. The broccoli was cold and dry and the mashed potatoes were dry and cold as well. My husband has shrimp and grits and they were not worth the price either. The peach cake used to be our favorite dessert warm and served in bowl with warm cream. Tonight was on a plate with small portion. The menu has been cut down a lot too with a lot less choices. Will probably not eat here again. Such a let down.

Very unwelcoming vibe. Was told one wait time over the phone and then a longer one in person. Our food came out cold and one of our orders was wrong. The waitress was very kind but it just wasn't a fun experience.

Y'all, this is a great neighborhood joint. We come here often to either sit at the bar or on the patio to enjoy our cocktails (excellent happy hour, btw) and tasty food. My husband and I will either order a couple of appetizers or, more frequently, split an entree. When we do the latter, they split it for us on separate plates and don't charge extra. We have always had fast (but somehow laidback) service and people are friendly here. I am giving it a 5 star because it is an excellent local watering hole with class and good food. Btw, the fries are legendary and those salmon tacos are legit. I recommend eating at the bar or the patio for maximum experience.
