How Austin Restaurants Are Feeding the Austin Community During Coronavirus Pandemic | Eater Austin

"A neighborhood institution that had to lay off about 60 employees despite offering curbside and delivery services; the restaurant is providing daily family meals for laid-off staff and their families to help keep them fed during furloughs." - Sarah Engstrand

While visiting Boise, Idaho I wanted to find a place to watch the ballgame. Was recommended to visit Hyde Park Pub & Grill to catch the Milwaukee Brewers game as it’s a Wisconsin themed bar. Great atmosphere, tap list and food options. Highly recommend the wings! So good!

Google
In addition to great food and beverages, Hyde Park Grill is super accommodating! Most recently John (owner) was adamant - and successful - to help get our game on one of the TV for us to watch. Best game day spot!

Had dinner here with my nieces. We wanted to catch up so we sat in the front room near the fireplace. It was a lovely atmosphere and quiet enough to talk. The food was delicious. Great service. Decent prices. I highly recommend it!

Google
I really enjoyed the food and drinks at Hyde Park Pub and Grill. We ended up eating in the front which was a bit quieter than in the back pub area. The decor is a bit sparse and it’s not really comfortable in the way that would invite you to spend hours of your time drinking like an English pub would. The food and drinks were outstanding though! We shared the veggie fried rice. That alone is worth the trip! With the tofu and veggies with the rice, veggies, and tofu it’s already tasty but I strongly suggest you make it loaded. This will add pickled carrot, daikon, jalapeños, cilantro, and gochujang aioli. The portion was more than generous and we split it easily. We also had a kind of hot rum drink which was a special that month. It was delicious and we each had two of them. They weren’t overly sweet but just enough that they slid down easily. I will be happy to visit this pub again!

Google
Great cocktails! The bleu cheese burger and wings were good, and the butter mushroom soup was even better! I'll definitely be visiting here again when I'm in the area. 😄

Google
The is a cute little corner spot in a charming area, but the service was sub par. We visited Thursday evening (9/4) at 8pm, and waited at our table for 30 minutes to be served drinks, with multiple servers making eye contact with us. Not until I waived someone down were we addressed. We had to waive down a waitress to order. The bartender was really polite, but the servers were unimpressive.

Alex A.

Google
Would recommend sitting outside if you can. Service was very attentive and accommodating - we ordered a side of tomatoes and the waitress didn’t blink! The croutons were excellent. Ambiance inside was distracting and exclusive of all sports fans.

Katie R.

Google
I ordered the fiesta chicken salad and my husband ordered a burger. The chicken on the salad was so dry it was inedible, the burger patty was bland and the burger bun was stale. It all tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp all day. Would not recommend and hope to find some better spots to eat during our short visit.

Yelp
Best Green Bay Packer bar I've been to since I left Wisconsin 40+ years ago! Had a blast watching the Packers/Bears game with dozens of friends I'd never met before. Had the brat special and it was legit. Nice selection of beer and a full bar. Owners John and Michelle are genuinely nice people who mix it up with the customers in all the right ways. Can't recommend it highly enough if you're a Packers fan and if you're not...that's on you. Change your ways. GO PACK GO!

Yelp
I came here my last day of being in town. I sat at the bar and I was happy to see they had a cider on draft. I glanced over the menu and I decided on a house salad with some salmon. While ordering, I did speak with the bartender about possible options as I'm dairy gluten-free . She checked with the chef in the back and I was able to order this meal. Honestly, thought it was quite overrated for the price. I would've been better off getting a regular entrée. So overall, the food was OK but definitely overpriced. I also had an amazing margarita. I highly recommend those.

Yelp
Last time we were in town we couldn't get in here since the game was on. We got in late and headed over, game was ending and we all needed dinner. 10 of us were accommodated real quick and the food was delicious! Our server was so friendly and sweet! Such a fun place that the guys decided to hole up there for their Sunday football! Can't wait to go back! Its super cozy and just a great vibe!

Yelp
Was looking for a local spot for dinner in the north end. My friend and I came across a cool little pub. Unfortunately, we showed up right before the kitchen was about to close but luckily got to order some food. My friend really enjoyed his burger and cleared his plate almost instantly! I loved the saucy wings and enjoyed the bbq flavor. I got a couple fatty wings which isn't always my favorite but it was okay. Our waitress was kind, although I think the quick order of food (which wasn't a huge deal) sorta threw my vibe off. Overall, no complaints to the pub, we thought it was amazing, and next time we'll be there earlier to enjoy our full experience with no feeling of rush.

Yelp
If you're looking for generic pub food this place has it. Food: 3/5. Everything was just ok. I got the loaded chili burger. Just ok. My husband got the Reuben and he said it was good, but nothing to brag about. I will say I did get the chicken strips once and they were really good! Atmosphere: 4/5. It's a generic pub atmosphere. Somewhat feels like the set of Cheers. Can feel crowded at times. Service: 3/5. The service was ok. The waitress was nice enough and came around a handful of times. There were a couple of things that we ordered that were not correct, for example we ordered tots and got fries. We also got the wrong beer. Kid friendly: 3/5. We took our little one here and it was fine but I don't necessarily recommend taking children here. They have a decent kids menu and high chairs but not really geared towards kids

Yelp
Great pizza and fun atmosphere! Great during the summer. I'd definitely recommend this spot.

Yelp
This is a great place to watch a sporting event! We watched the Boise St vs Washington game there and it was electric! There aren't a ton of seats so you may have to wait a little bit to get a seat. They have your normal pub food and drinks. The wings were incredible and might be some of the best Buffalo flavor I've had in a while. The side of tots was huge and can easily be shared with the table. This is a great local pub to enjoy a game with friends!

Yelp
Highly recommended!! The food was great and the prices were awesome. The waitress killed it she was handling the whole packed restaurant and bar as the only server. I was super surprised as well the owner was helping her in any way he can and I have a lot of respect for owners like him!! I'm from out of town but this will be a spot we come and support every time i'm in town!!Thanks Again for a delicious lunch:)

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance was great! Will be returning with friends and to catch baseball games.

Yelp
Went during happy hour. Got asked if I wanted a single or a double for my cocktail, I ordered a double thinking it would be a few dollars extra. Instead, they charged me a happy hour price ($8) plus the regular price ($9.25) so $17.25 for ONE drink. When I asked my server about it, she said it was right. Absolutely ridiculous to charge $9.25 for an extra shot... Other than that the place was fine but would not go again.

Yelp
On the corner at the entrance to the little downtown area of the neighborhood (not downtown Boise). Indoor, outdoor and bar seating. Full service sitdown restaurant. TVs inside only from what I saw. Fast and friendly service. Pretty large menu with some unique offerings. I went with the cajun ranch bacon burger and got a salad for a buck extra because the table got fries as an app to share. Also got mini corn dogs to share. Everything was great! Would've been five stars if not for a bunch of food scraps on the ground that weren't cleaned up from the prior guests, which in turn made us think nothing was that clean.

M O.

Yelp
Our food was pretty *meh* -- but one does not go to Hyde Park Pub & Grill for the *cuisine.* The food aside, the service was some of the worst I've ever experienced. We weren't welcomed/greeted when we arrived; we had to ask for napkins; both the person who asked us what we wanted to drink and the *waiter* were indifferent to our presence; because the place was empty most of the time we were there (during a weekday lunch hour???), the two visible employees spent their time either on their phones or talking to each other rather than checking in on us; when we asked for *to go* boxes we were given 2 small boxes, one of which was nowhere near big enough for the leftovers intended for it (which would have been obvious to anyone who had an ounce of presence/awareness when the request was made & they looked at the two dishes to be carried out); there were FLIES all around us/our food; and we were given our check without a word. I haven't not at least tipped the minimum (18%) in a very, very looooooong time (years/decades), but this pathetic hospitality was so below the lowest bar the only *adequate* tip was "0." Won't be back. There are far too many good dining options in Boise to waste another dime on this one.

Yelp
Love coming to this pub in North End. Today was gorgeous so we sat outside, enjoyed some appetizers and drinks. I really liked their huckleberry mojito! The hummus was delicious. I will definitely also be ordering their coconut shrimp again as well! If your looking for a local place to grab some great food, drinks and service I encourage you to check this place out! I have never had a bad meal here!

Yelp
Friendly service and decent pub style food down in Hyde Park. The nachos are yummy and gigantic! My husband got the club with tots and really enjoyed it. Cool vibes and kid friendly.

Sophie H.

Yelp
This place used to be pretty good, although I feel like every time we go in now the food ranges from okay to mediocre to poor. This most recent time, one of the fries was still frozen (which indicates to me that they pre-fry their fries and reheat them which checks out because they don't have much flavor) there black and bleu burger also tasted mostly flavorless and the meat itself was weird and seems like they use low-quality pre frozen burgers. The texture was off. Honestly could use a new chef because the ambience and location are great ( except for they always having a raging fly problem 8/12 months of the year). Anyways could use some work if they're going to keep their prime spot in 13th or maybe the old owner (when it was called Harry's) should buy it back.

Yelp
This place was great. The reuben was made perfect and everything reasonably priced. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and the staff was friendly.

Yelp
Our service was fantastic! We had quick service and delicious food. Our waitress was named Zulema and was very efficient! This restaurant was perfect for us as we all wanted different items. Every item that we had ordered was phenomenal. This restaurant does not disappoint! We can't wait to return again!

Yelp
My Wife and I decided to try this restaurant on one of our few trips into Boise, in particular Hyde Park, for lunch; it was a nice day, so we sat outside on their patio. I ordered the Reuben, and my wife ordered the Grilled Chicken Salad. Service was friendly and quick; our food arrived in a timely manner. We both enjoyed our food although I thought the Reuben could have had more corned beef and a little less sauerkraut, but it was still quite delicious. I ordered Tater Tots with the sandwich; it was rather large, I took half the sandwich and half the Tater Tots home for another meal! My Wife enjoyed the grilled chicken salad; again, no skimping on the portions; quite a bit of chicken, she brought several pieces home. I would recommend this restaurant as a definite favorite when we visit the Hyde Park area again.

Yelp
Expensive pub grub with decent service. Seems like just another pub frying up Sysco foods packaged about the same as every other pub like this. I didn't find it to be bad, but it seemed expensive for what it was. The atmosphere seems rigid and not as much fun as it could be. They're also in the midst of a wage shortage they're blaming on the workforce. There's no such thing as a labor shortage. This isn't WWII where 27% of the work force left to support the war cause. It's only a shortage of wages people are unwilling to accept to work for these places. Pure and simple. The wings are tasty and their sandwiches are ok. Get the buffalo fries if you get fries. They're worth it.

Yelp
Just called and tried to order 20 tacos for my crew and he said sorry man I gotta let you go I have a bunch of people in front of me. Awesome customer service. I would have waited on hold.

Yelp
Would highly recommend. Was there visiting family and went in for a cocktail at the bar. The bartender was AMAZING will be going back again when back in town

Yelp
The HPP is one of our go-to neighborhood hangouts. My wife has an ongoing like for bar food, and the staff of the HPP are always positive and no matter how crowded, a table always seems to open up. The bar is full and drinks are strong enough to earn my respect; some might deride the food as ho hum but it's bar food, it's hot when it's supposed to be, the fried food is crunchy and they have finger steaks, fry sauce, and generous helpings of perfectly prepared tater tots if you're tired of fries. I also like the HPP because it's just a simple neighborhood place. Hyde park is getting so hoity toity these days (actually, it has been for a long time) that I have to display a stubborn pride in HPP's lack or artisanal pretense. Trivia night on Sundays was also fun, although I don't know if it's still going. Also: the owners are die hard Green Bay fans, for better or worse.

Yelp
Shut up and eat here. They are SAFE and SANITARY! This is a quaint neighborhood pub with the friendliest staff, delicious food, and affordable drinks. There is a very relaxing outdoor patio that is dog friendly as well. I suggest: Jumbo Wings & Chips, Elwood Blue Sandwich, the Rueben, Grilled Ham & Cheese, $11 bucket of Pabst (a special) Cheers

Dan H.

Yelp
The menu is humdrum. Nothing exciting, new or innovative. The menu hasn't changed for about two decades. Time for a menu change to compete for our dollars?!
google avatar

Anna I.

Yelp
Mediocre at best. Not sure why I keep coming here. I visit this place once or twice per year for the past decade and always leave with a sense of disappointment. Today was no different. The young host greeted us with an annoyed stare and showed us to table with a speed of turtle. The water glasses that he brought out were dirty and smeared with lipstick. The food today came out fast which is quite unusual for this place based on my prior experience. My daughter's grilled cheese came out burned. The waitress (who was very nice and friendly) saw me scraping off the burned toast with a knife, but pretended she did not see it and hurried away. So overall, it's very unenthusiastic two stars.

Holly B.

Yelp
Just sat at a table for 17 minutes without getting greeted. Saturday lunch? Totally understandable that it's busy. However when you have servers making eye contact with you, ACKNOWLEDGING that you haven't been greeted and choosing to not communicate that someone will be there soon is poor service. Had 1 server bussing the table next to us before greeting us, had another server asking the table next to us for another round before greeting us. Called & mentioned the purposeful lack of service we got & all we got was a "we're understaffed" so back to, ITS A SATURDAY. Why are you understaffed? There's like a total of 30 tables maybe in that whole restaurant. Y'all gotta stop using the understaffed excuse and remove tables then. If you can't get strong servers and/or enough serves to run your business, remove seating options so they aren't so overwhelmed

Roy and Sharon L.

Yelp
Hands down! The best chicken wings ever! The atmosphere and the vibe is very neighborhoodie!! Those folks who posted negative reviews must be from out of town!!

Sergey M.

Yelp
Runaway from this place. This is the worst service ever. My friends and I came to this place and the host was so rude to us. I don't know whether or not she had a bad day or something but we left this place right away.

A B.

Yelp
Awful service, it was hot as hell inside. We were the only ones in there, should have been my first sign. The chips and salsa really isn't chips and salsa, they just deep fry tortillas.
google avatar

Blake S.

Yelp
Staff is awesome. Wings were large and in charge. Nice menu, really enjoyed this place!

Jessica K.

Yelp
Just sat for 20 mins waiting to get service and new people came and sat after us and they were helped and we still received no service. Ended up leaving without even a water. Super disappointing.

N ..

Yelp
Wish I had caught the name of the server, but it's refreshing to go into an establishment where you're welcomed and not working against indifference or eye rolls to order a meal. Food was great too and they have a solid selection of beers. It had been a while since I stopped in, and it was a lot quieter than during the NFL season (it's a Packers bar, so expect it to be a lot busier in the fall). I'll definitely drop in again.
google avatar

Krista P.

Yelp
Food was expensive and horrible. Both me and my husband got ill. A pitcher of beer was 23$$. Never going back again!!
google avatar

Don S.

Yelp
Average food at best and actually poor service. We sat outside. The chips and salsa are not even close to good IMO. Getting a water refill took forever, so much so, that I got up and got the water myself. Guys who had ordered beer, never got to order another one, and were never asked. It was really embarrassing as we had several business associates in town and were showing them commercial property near by. We had the pub wings which were average, chicken strips, horrible, burgers, overcooked bigtime, one gentlemen had the coconut shrimp and could not eat more than one. I will be working in 2018 in the Hyde Park area often, so maybe these guys were just having a bad day, I will update review if I give them another shot.
google avatar

Greggie T.

Yelp
This place was amazing and the restroom was clean and the food was great and the service from the employees were nice and fast ,, and I will definitely come here again ,,Chicken Strip was good too

Jessica Z.

Yelp
A casual spot for beer and burgers. They have a great beer selection and lots of yummy bar food options. The burgers are amazing!! Nice patio for the spring time too and lots of TVs inside for all your sports watching needs!

Yelp
My husband got the crazy notion of trying this place with our toddlers in tow tonight. After checking with the hostess to make sure it was child friendly, we grabbed a couple of high chairs and settled down to order. I was pleasantly surprised to see my current favorite wine, St. Chapelle's Soft Huckleberry, on the wine list. In addition to wine, we ordered fried mozzarella as an appetizer. We were surprised at how quickly it arrived. It had a unique batter and was made with real mozzarella - very yummy and not particularly greasy for fried bar food. Our meals arrived quickly as well, chicken tenders with fries for me to share with the boys and buffalo wings for my husband. I wasn't thrilled with the chicken tenders. Supposedly it had a tempura batter, but it seemed like the typical chicken tender batter to me. Still, the chicken was tender and, like the fried cheese, it wasn't very greasy. My husband, a Buffalo native, was pleased with his wings. All in all the service is excellent, the location is great and the food is good.

Yelp
Probably more like 3.5, but that isn't a choice. HPG is a cozy place and I could see hanging out here if I lived in the area. But too far for us to visit by choice unless we were in the area. The food was sort of middling. I had fish and chips and the fish looked more like breaded pre-frozen fillets. Tasted fine, but I really would have preferred beer battered fish. Tater tots were an alternative and I always like those. The wife had a Quesadilla and she wasn't too enthused by it. Overall the food was OK but not great. Service was quick and friendly, even though there were a dozen or more Santas in costume on their SantaFest Pub crawl. The place isn't large, so it was snug. A bit too many tables in a small area for comfort and conversation with the crowd. Loos are handicap accessible, but parking can be a drag in this area.

Yelp
A decent bar, but I wouldn't go much beyond that. I came here after passing through this 13th street neighborhood one evening after a run around Camel's Back Park. I spotted restaurants right away among the brick buildings and small neighborhood type feel and decided I'd come check the place out. I decided to stop by Hyde Park Pub and Grill with my coworker this evening. Upon entering, it immediately felt like the sort fo small time bar that people come to hang out at. I grabbed my one (and only) happy hour beer before headed out to meet my friend, who was already there. Happy hour is daily 4-6pm and you get a dollar of drafts - not too bad since drafts are usually only $4.25/pint craft and $3.25/pint domestic. They also serve 22oz drafts/domestics and pitchers. After the previous posts' rave on fish and chips (you know me), I decided to try this place out. And since I was pretty hungry, I ordered the Buffalo chips and wings for starters with my friend. The app was okay - but not the best wings and fries I've ever had. In fact, I was a little disappointed with the fries - the menu called for a double order, but I could hardly say that was anything more than a single order (if even that). The fish and chips? They were... regular bar food. Nothing spectacular. I'm starting to forget what the hell I was originally looking for in fish and chips. I feel like I've just had an awesome batch before - hot, fresh, crispy and delicious.... but I've had nothing that compares to it since. I don't even clearly remember my first great fish and chips. That being said... these were your classic pub fish and chips - decent, but not an awe-inspiring meal. Throughout the night, I sampled their selection of Seasonals on draft: Drafter Pale Ale (I like this one), Sierra Nevada Kellerwies, Sam Adams Oktoberfest, and Spatan. They also had Blue Moon as their seasonal... but I'd consider that a domestic really =P Not too shabby a selection and hey, I guess I caught the end of their glass sale - Wednesday nights through September, you can get a Sierra Nevada glass for free with purchase of a Sierra Nevada beer! The actual offer is - get a Sierra Nevada beer and you get it for happy hour price ($1 off) and pay $1 for an extra glass. But basically, you do the math and it's a beer plus a free pint glass =P Overall, not a bad place to be. I'd avoid sitting on the patio - we sat out there and there were a bazillion flies. GROSS. At least sitting inside you'd avoid those... =P

Yelp
All I can say is get the Nachos!!!! The beer flight is great too! Cool environment and great service

Yelp
This bar smells like stale beer (carpeted interior) on the inside and is hum drum on the outside. With that said,.... the food. We ordered at lunch time on a Saturday. The inside had 5 tables loaded and 4 outside tables were busy. 1 waitress on duty and that woman kicked butt and kept everyone happy. PHILLY CHEESESTEAK: tender hoagie bun STUFFED with juicy steak and bell pepper, onion and CHEESE. Great flavor, large portion, excellent! Served with perfect french fries. FINGER STEAKS: Oh my God! Perfectly seasoned breading surrounding juicy tender steak. The steak had a slight horseradish seasoning taste which was perfect. The cocktail sauce was nice and spicy with horseradish as well. Served with perfectly fried crunchy Idaho Tater Tots and Tater Tot Sauce. Filled me up and very delicious. If I go back to the yuppie infested Hyde Park area, I will definitely stop here for lunch. Hopefully they can find the time to shampoo the hell out of their carpets. This is one of those places that looks mundane on the outside and the food surprises you.

Anne Marie B.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of dining at a great pub in Hyde Park in the northend of Boise! So so yummy! My husband had the special, a halibut fish sandwich and I had the turkey burger. Both were outstanding! Our waitstaff Grace was wonderful! Super attentive, efficient and so nice! The outdoor patio was perfect on a perfect day! We will be back and we highly recommend!
google avatar

Ophelia M.

Yelp
This is a great place in a great neighborhood. We came here one Saturday evening for a date night. The weather was lovely so we sat outside on their patio (enchanting). There was live music being played (a little twang country for my tastes, but charming none-the-less). We ordered their quesadilla to share and each had a house salad. Their house salad is scrumptious--fresh and crisp with varied veggies (much better than the iceberg/hothouse tomato standby that many places seem to serve). The quesadilla was delish. I enjoyed a glass of wine (can't remember which, but it was solid). And, my husband ordered one of the 15 beers they have on tap. Overall a lovely place for a date. We enjoyed our light meal, and then headed across the street to Goody's to top it off with some ice cream. Love life in Hyde!
google avatar

Donna M.

Yelp
Green Bay Packers game day. Son's a big fan. I'm going to try this place again. Felt bad for the server, they were so busy and she had the whole outside terrace to serve.
google avatar

Von J.

Yelp
Love this place and come here often. It has good quality pub food, at decent prices. It is a crucial piece of the Hyde Park neighborhood. My only issue is with the owner sometimes being overly territorial about outside food. Even a single measly $1 taco from Parrilla, is enough to get him to rudely ask you to leave... If you are not bringing in outside food or drink though, he is usually fairly nice.
google avatar

J R.

Yelp
Okay food but do not go here if you aren't a Packers fan on game day. Like every place in the North End very expensive drinks.
google avatar

Angie S.

Yelp
Ordered delivery through door dash. Food was fast and hot. Had the coconut butterfly shrimp with tater tots and a side of onion rings. 8 big ass shrimp with an orange marmalade sauce. Tons of onion rings!! 2 sides of dry sauce which was tangy and a side of ranch. It was good!

Yelp
I've never been in this establishment that I wasn't greeted warmly and waited on promptly, even with a massive crowd, on the last two occasions. The food is always fresh and delicious. Super fun place and highly underrated. But okay...keep it that way. I don't want posh when I go there. I want real folks at the counter who ask how you are and care about the answer, who take the time to let you taste the wine. ( I chose the pricier one, largely due to the service. It was delicious anyway.) Hyde Park Pub attracts a good customer base because it is run in an extraordinary way. Instead of chasing the dollar, they care about the customer. Some days, that's all I need...and then they show up with delicious accoutrements, to boot. Great job management and staff!!! Jeannie Toutloff

Yelp
I assume this restaurant gets more positive buzz for its location than it's actual quality of food. I traveled down to Hyde Park twice to try this restaurant. Unfortunately, both times have been the same. The actual establishment is nice. Large TVs with sports and a long bar for eating/drinking. There is an outdoor eating patio, but I didn't sit there. Too many flies to enjoy a meal. The menu is small, but has a good enough selection that most groups will find something they want. I personally like the burgers. They are large and flavorful. From this review alone I would rate a high 4 even 5 star. Unfortunately this establishment has some of the worst waitresses I've been around. It takes a long time to get orders taken, drinks refilled, and checks delivered. I've sat in my booth waiting for my check as the waitress discussed her current relationship with what I assume as one of the regulars. Mind you the waitress only had 3 tables so it wasn't busy. Each time I've gone has been the same story. We eventually have to get up and ask for our check. I don't like feeling like a hostage. Because of the poor service I can't rate this higher than a 2. If management makes some changes I will gladly come back to redo my review.
