"Part old-school soda fountain, part ice cream store, part candy shop, and part toy store, Hypnotic Emporium is pretty much a dream come true for kids and grown-ups alike. On any given day there are 20 ice cream flavors available to be made into shakes, plus a choice of extremely legit candy, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. It’s all served in a frosty-cold glass, of course." - Rachel Pinn

Google
We love Hypnotic ice cream! Their flavors are great, the owner is incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere is super laid back. The espresso chip with caramel syrup is my favorite. My daughter loves the watermelon sorbet. The salty dog is also really good.

Keeley Fincik

Google
The atmosphere is so fun. Music playing, a bunch of kid toys and games too. I was able to sample flavors and the staff was very friendly the entire time! Creamy ice cream! I drove 10 miles and will drive back easily. So good!!

Amber Lowe

Google
One of the best dessert shops I've ever been to! Staff were really nice and energetic. Clearly love their jobs. We really appreciated that they accommodated us close to closing because we got stuck in traffic and it was my husband's birthday. Their ice cream is fantastic! Would have gotten a picture but we scarfed them down! Wish I could have gotten a shirt in my size. Cute shop with lots of nostalgic candies and treats. Wish we lived in town just to come here more often! Will definitely stop in again next time we're in DFW.

Google
While driving by, we were greeted with a fountain of beautiful bubbles outside! Played in those for a while, then went inside and met Billy, the owner who is so kind and wonderful 😊 he gave us samples and we had great conversations. The atmosphere was so great for children. We played games for the longest of times 😊

Nancy Valdata

Google
My family and I had a great time at Hypnotic Emporium Ice Cream. The ice cream was delicious, creamy and hit the spot. Billy was friendly and kind! Highly recommended!

Jessica Hector

Google
This place is so wonderful! The ice cream is amazing and the atmosphere is the best. Also love that you can sample all the ice creams before deciding on your pick.

Google
They get one star because they do have ice cream. It's just not very good. One scoop of ice cream is really tiny, and milkshakes are so thick they're not actually drinkable. I watched as the employee wiped his nose with a paper towel, set that paper towel on the counter right next to a spoon he then picked up and kept making a milkshake with. It made me wonder when was the last time he washed his hands. Bleh. When we walked in, he also just stared at us without saying a word. Overall, super gross creepy vibes in the store. Definitely won't be back, and won't recommend.

Keo Strull

Google
The owner went out of way to find exactly the ice cream I was craving. Once I said sour, he found lime sherbet in the back and was so excited to share with me! Delicious! Great service!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Cute little ice cream place! They have lots of board games and jenga as well. The ice cream selection isn't huge, but it's not bad. The ice cream sandwich is huge! Definitely sharing size. I had the rocky road and s'mores cupcake flavor which was 10/10.

Darshan P.

Yelp
The Watermelon sherbert was fantastic!

Yanira R.

Yelp
Excellent service . Patient and nice. The ice creams, milkshake and float were delicious!

Jon M.

Yelp
Super cool experience! The owner heard it was my daughter's birthday gave her some ice cream and some marshmallows on fire for her to celebrate! Very cool of him! Ice cream was really good too!!

Belia M.

Yelp
The two ladies that helped us were very sweet my shake was the bomb ! Cookie 8/10 nothing crazy ! But that shake I can't get over it !! Cute inside !

Corinne M.

Yelp
The watermelon sorbet is what dreams are made of! This place is VERY kid friendly (toys, games, tv with kids movies playing, flashing lights) so I will take my sorbet to go, but so worth it putting up with the noise and lights. The nostalgic candy is great - Charms hard candies and nerds rope!! I got a double scoop of the cherry lime sorbet and watermelon - the cherry lime was really good - but that watermelon... I wanted to get in the 2.5 gallon tub and lazily eat my way to the surface!

Jacky O.

Yelp
Milkshakes are super watery, more like melted ice cream. Plus they didn't even fill up the cup to the top (not that I would've wanted it)

Cindy C.

Yelp
Went here for the first time tonight because my daughter is obsessed with ice cream. Some of the ice cream names need a little explaining, but the staff was super friendly and described the flavors. They also offered samples. My daughter ended up getting an ice cream sandwich with one chaos cookie, one red velvet, Peterbilt ice cream and the gingerbread ice cream (forgot the name). For the topping, she got gummy bears. Scoops were kinda small, but she loved it!!! I'm not too much of a sweets person, but I'm a mom and so this review is to say thank you for being so kind and for the awesome ice cream and cookies. She texted me after her father picked her up because she was super happy about her ice cream sandwich. We will definitely be back.

Kiki T.

Yelp
Staff is great! Love their items! Also check out their donuts in the morning! Super delicious.

Ron N.

Yelp
Great local ice cream shop. Ice cream flavors and quality hit the spot. The owner, Billy had his bubble machines going on- a lot of joy and heart in this place.

Rick B.

Yelp
We wanted Hypnotic Donuts, but we missed the 2pm close. So we went to the Hypno-Emporium next door, for ice cream and cookies. The cookies were large and tasty, but there weren't many varieties. Same for the ice-cream; boosted by a few unusual choices. The candy (up-front) is not interesting to me, but kids probably like the look. Interesting customer-photo array on the wall. Overall; an OK dessert option.

Ted H.

Yelp
I guess I have ruffled his feathers! LOL! STAY AWAY!! The ice cream is not near good enough to put up with the jerk owner!

Paiton P.

Yelp
I love the ice cream here!! It's very inexpensive as well and their flavors are creative. My favorite one is "Bees Knees", lavender honey i think, it's so good. It's really cute inside the shop too. Good vibes:)

Amy D.

Yelp
Hypnotic Emporium is located in a random strip mall (next to their sister donut shop, Hypnotic Donuts), and they are like an old school ice cream shoppe. You can get shakes, sundaes, and even a donut ice cream sandwich! They have 18 rotating flavors of ice cream, but there's a limit of 2 flavors/person you can sample. It wasn't busy when I came in on a Friday around 6pm, and I tried: -Sundae w/Butter Pecan & Peterbuilt ($5, https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=eIl_A_8r1UdubZvo06MlIA&userid=76vIFZcC7owykCBjMfGVXg): The butter pecan was good but nothing special, but I chose this since I didn't really like the other flavors I tried. The Peterbuilt was my favorite, since it has pieces of Heath bar, and I would get that again. The sundae was just ok overall, and I would rather just get the ice cream on it's own. -Banana Cream Pie: There was too much banana flavor from the freeze dried banana- skip! -Salty Dog: There was too much salt in this ice cream- skip! -Texas Doctor (Dr. Pepper & Pralines): It was too weird for me to have a Dr. Pepper flavored ice cream, and I didn't think these flavors worked- skip! I had really high expectations for Hypnotic Emporium since I really liked Hypnotic Donuts, but the flavors that I tried didn't really work for me. The Peterbuilt was good, and the consistency of the ice cream was creamy, so I would come back if I were in the area. The staff here is really nice- super friendly and energetic. At least the parking is easy since this strip mall has plenty of parking.

Kris F.

Yelp
If you want to try some great unordinary ice cream flavors look no further, phenomenal classic and custom choices, Texas honey whiskey and Peterbuilt were phenomenal as was the pecan flavor, their vanilla reminded me of childhood, creamy and just right, glad I stopped here to try it, service was awesome

S G.

Yelp
Great ice cream with tasty flavors. Very dog friendly and went above and beyond in getting our pup a bowl of whipped cream as well as water. Very friendly staff. Will definitely be back.

Melissa M.

Yelp
I tried there snickerdoodle cookie sandwich with butter pecan ice cream it was really good but was bummed when I found out you can't add toppings to it, it would have been so much better with some. My daughter wanted to try there chocolate donut with campfire s'mores ice cream she was happy to add toppings in hers however I was taken back because I watched them pull the donut out of a box it wasn't fresh or warm.

Steve V.

Yelp
We came here on a not so warm Saturday and was pleasantly surprised to have the place all to ourselves. It is located in a strip mall next to the donut shop with the same name and conveniently close to the trail around White Rock Lake, which is where we were before coming here. Parking was easy right out front. They are good about giving samples and their flavors are both unique, and tried and true. You can tell the ice cream is made with quality ingredients and I love that the price is based on how much your item weighs. I got my kids small cones each (because they can't finish them) and it came out to just over $2 per cone. We sat at the bar and enjoyed our treats!

Cindy L.

Yelp
I came into this place and felt like I landed in my kind of heaven with sweets of all sorts. Candies, ice cream, donuts, etc. I went straight for the counter and had to order the dream, which is a donut stuffed with ice cream. I've had it before in CA but felt like I had to have it again in Dallas. The two gentlemen behind the counter were so friendly and had us try a few flavors of ice cream before deciding. They even told us we can choose 3 different ice cream flavors for the doughnuts ,so I lost it and went with everything that tasted amazing. I went with the bees knees (honey lavender), caramel cheesecake and strawberry ice cream. The strawberry ice cream just because it cuts down on the decadence of the other flavors. I loved it and they even glazed it all off with caramel sauce or hot fudge if you want. They even warm it all up on a donut warmer for you, heaven!!! I was in heaven and in a food coma afterwards, can you die from sweetness? That's how I felt. I would come here every week if I lived in the area.

Dee V.

Yelp
Can't for the life of me understand why a milkshake is $9+. The service was good when I visited. The guy that worked there told me about the ice cream they use. I thought it was just ok. The milkshake was mediocre and about the size of a grande Starbucks cup. I don't know what the appeal is of this place ...

Dug D.

Yelp
Ice cream was fine, you only get 3 free samples, no big deal. But man the dude working here seems like... rude? He's not welcoming at all and doesn't seem friendly. Probably won't come back cause like, this guy is a Kill joy.

Cat N.

Yelp
I'm not familiar with the Beth Marie ice cream they serve but I know it was yummy!!!! I don't keep up with whats popular in Denton because thats like Oklahoma for me. But I'm glad Hypnotic serves Beth Marie's ice cream closer to me! I came in for a pretzel cone with a scoop of vanilla bean and a scoop of bubble gum ice cream. Its weight by the ounce so mine came out to be $4. Kind of small but taste makes up for it. This is a cute shop next to Hypnotic donut. I love that the manager Brandon works with his staff. Most managers in service just tell their people what to do but Brandon actually scoops ice cream and serve. I appreciate that!

Sienna B.

Yelp
Love this place! Cute little counter space. Feels updated but much like an old school creamery as well. This ice cream shop is less than a Mile from the dallas arboretum and plenty of choices for ice cream. You'll love it ! We did

Cheryl P.

Yelp
Small 2.50 Smells like waffle cones when you enter Lots of candy Caramel cheesecake ice cream is good Salty dog is good. Salted caramel with Dulce de leche Very nice employee

De Amber P.

Yelp
I went their for one reason and one reason only. And it was the best dang reason!! You immediately walk in and get slapped in the face by the smell of sweets. Not overwhelming at all. Just super eager to get in line. The lines are long but extremely fast. The company it's self needs to have a requirement of more than just two girls behind the counter. They look stressed out. Barely smiled. Sounded like robots... "You're Welcome.. Have a good day". It was finally my turn & I ordered The Cloud Cone. my choice of cotton candy wrapped around my choice of ice cream. I had absolutely no clue that Lemon Drop flavored ice cream would taste so good!! And wrapped around strawberry cotton candy. Absolutely Wonderful. Highly recommend this place. Super easy parking. Easy to find.

E R.

Yelp
This is by far the most interesting ice cream haven that I've had the pleasure of visting. These guys are over the top when it comes to ice cream. The most interesting thing that I noticed here is that in between scooping that frozen bliss into a waffle cone, they are manufacturing fresh in store waffle cones behind the counter. I found that very intriqing. Great atmosphere, great product, excellent service.

Yelp
Wow!!!!!!!!!......yummy for your tummy!!!!!!... Best Ice Cream in town!!!!!!! I had the Carl...and for a traditional banana split it deserves a "10"....yes your probably thinking a 10?.....well i have had a few banana splits and none compare to the Carl!!!!!...Thank you

Ray F.

Yelp
When you have decided you want to not only get an ice cream but want to smile and really enjoy it, THIS is the place you should go to. It is not just an Ice Cream Shop or a soda Fountain. Of course the ice cream is amazing. They have more flavors in back if you don't see something in the display case. I'm a huge chocolate chip fan (okay, maybe some of my size is from chocolate chip ice cream). What makes this place special and unique is the way the staff makes your feel important and very appreciated! They help you along, not pushy, smile, talk to you, and make you feel welcomed. One of the really nice thoughts is they have pitchers of ice water at the counter for you when the sweet ice cream over powers your common sense and you need the water to help take the last 2 bites! The Emporium has all kinds of sweets and treats that bring back the kid in all of us. It will make you smile as you remember many of the candies they offer that you seldom see these days. I've brought quite a few folks to this heavenly spot and all left smiling and happy; every time! You deserve a smile - swing by and give it a try!

Yelp
Sadly the doors were open with a sign saying "Welcome In" but guess we missed that the "open" sign wasn't lit. Walked in at 9:32 and they apparently changed their hours to close at 9:30. Tip to Hypnotic Emporium - update your online information. And also chat with your closing manager on how to better deal with 2 people walking in and then a group of 4 walking in soon after. Maybe offer ice cream scoops only. Maybe she should stay at the door before people are already up at the counter. And maybe should not say we reopen at 11:30am tomorrow so come back then ‍. I fully understand and respect store hours but this clearly was not communicated properly to your customers. Went to Steel City Pop instead and it was lovely!

Carlee W.

Yelp
We will have to come back some other day I guess. We went by at 6 p. On a saturday and I guess it was closed for renovations. Wish that had been put up as a notice or even a sign on the door.

Solana C.

Yelp
Really nice service but pretty pricey and no nutritional facts available. I had a cupcake shake and it was good but not $6 good!

Shelly M.

Yelp
I was very impressed with my first visit. They have a wide variety of flavors including some out of the ordinary special flavors. Today that was a red wine blue cheese flavor which was surprisingly tasty when sampled. I ended up going with their signature dish, the donut ice cream sandwich. It's an unglazed donut cut in half, toasted with your choice of ice cream in the middle and drizzled with the topping of choice. All I can say is OH MY!!!!! The service is outstanding. The manager, Brandon goes above and beyond in his interactions with customers. This is a place you have to try!

Paul V.

Yelp
James and Amy St. Peter have crushed the donut scene in Dallas now for years; so it should come as no surprise that they've replicated that magic at Hypnotic Emporium. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Hypnotic Emporium does a fantastic job at replicating your old school soda fountain, and the retro candy bars and soda jerk setup will be appealing to just about everyone. Grab some goods or place your order and you'll be all set in no time. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Hypnotic Emporium is a bit on the pricy side, but such is the nature of retro candies (think Rocket Fizz prices). When it comes to the ice cream though, things level out, and my 'Dream' donut ice cream sandwich came to a reasonable $6.00 for what was a decent amount of ice cream and a standard sized donut. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Wow. First and foremost, the ice cream was fantastic, and both the Caramel Cheesecake and Salty Dog had strong flavor. From there the donut was good, and I doubly appreciated that they heated up the donut before sandwiching the ice cream in between it. Great stuff, and a fantastic breadth of classic and contemporary ice cream flavors. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Hypnotic Emporium dishes up great ice cream and peripherals, but I can't yet say that they're my favorite donuts (Jarams) or my favorite ice cream (Paciugo). It's awfully close though. No Star Granted.

Yelp
just nowNEW Most horrible customer service experience of my life. I came in tonight around 8:35 close to closing. I brought my 8 year old daughter for ice cream to take home. A young lady made my daughter scope of cotton candy with topping. I wanted a banana split last time I came they didn't have hot fudge so I ask if they had that. They did and I erroneous ask for hot fudge as the tall slender older man with bright green toboggan on was making it I realized told him the wrong thing. I ask is that banana split he said no you said hot fudge. I apologize for me mistake said meant banana split he basically berated me saying so what do you want to do with what I made extremely rude I said you can use the same ice cream and put it in the banana split dish mind you he had not put any topping on it. He continues to berate me saying that's not how it works even the young lady whom was working with him look at me in disbelief of how he was acting....hell I was going to pay for my mistake. He continues to berate me in front of my child I told him he is extremely rude and told my daughter to come on and ask for the manager he said he was. As I was walking out the door he tried to give my child hers saying he already made it l refuse and told him he could eat it asshole. I made a mistake while ordering but berating a customer who was still going to pay for her mistake is outrageous it's freaking ice cream!!!! Over price ice cream that I was going to pay for because of my mistake until he continued to berate me in front of my child as if I was a child not a paying adult customer. My child when we left said, "he was mean and that scared me mommy". Who ever owns this place should consider who they have as management. Is this the type of person you pay to represent your business is this how you would treat a paying customer?

Poonam B.

Yelp
Holy moly. Love the old school feel of this new Ice Cream shop! There are shelves upon shelves of unique candy bars to look at and you can even buy one and add it into your ice cream. We came in on a Friday night. There was a short line and someone greeted us with a menu to look at while we were waiting! I decided on a donut ice cream sandwich (drool) and was pleasantly surprised to find that I could put 3 different flavors if I so pleased. I PLEASED. I got the campfire smore's, cappucino chip, and the cookies and cream. They heat the donut sandwich up and the ice cream texture becomes perfect. I was surprised that it didn't melt too fast. They serve Beth Marie ice cream. I've never heard of it, but I was happy with my chosen flavors. They are well staffed and every person I spoke to was friendly. My only complaint is that there is a serious shortage of seats. My group stood in a circle and ate together because all the bar stools were taken and it was pretty cold outside.

Jeffrey N.

Yelp
5 out of 5 for the ice cream alone. The Bee's Knees (Lavender and Honey) from Beth Marie's (which took them off my planned list since I was already having them here) was smooth, not too sweet and yummy. The waffle cone was fresh and delicious. The cotton candy was too much, but it was a cool gimmick I hadn't seen anywhere else. Great place. #31IceCreamShopsIn31Days #NationalIceCreamMonth

Haley F.

Yelp
The service is HORRIBLE! They're so slow! You will have two people in line, and it takes 30 min to get your ice cream. Employees need to have a Sense of urgency to understand not everyone wants to spend the entire day at an ice cream shop.

Brianna C.

Yelp
Bees nees is delicious but I ordered a small and the dude scooped 10oz of ice cream. You pay by weight so I spent $9.40 on a "small" cone. And it's not like you can put it back.

Greg R.

Yelp
Family favorite for ice cream. So glad they are in our neighborhood because it's always a treat to visit.

Kristi C.

Yelp
Cute candy and ice cream store with super friendly employees! They answered all my questions and were super patient with me and my friends as we were deciding what to get. They offer plenty of interesting ice cream flavors and allows you to sample up to three flavors. The price is also by weight, so you can get as much as you want! I asked for one scoop, but got about two and a half and it was around $4-$5. Pretty fair from where I live, but will definitely be coming back whenever I'm in the area!

Mari A.

Yelp
I came her for my first time on Monday. The selection is great. I went for the butter pecan and it was really good. This a neat place to bring your kids.

Megan S.

Yelp
All good things are sold by the ounce. So depending on which fix you need- come to Hypnotic Emporium (or the alley right behind?). The ice cream parlorists will show you the quantity and let you direct them with non-quantitative measurements such as "a smidgen more." At the end of the line they'll weigh your cup/cone/dish and collect your cash. The counter set up is be-u-ta-ful. However, if it's packed- you'll woefully eye all the wasted opportunity for cute diner booths. The emporium aspect of the store takes up way too much real estate- for an eclectic mix of sweet delights. Eclectic- as in many of the thing that I'd get in my Halloween bag and then discard. I did see Haribo gummy cherries, so maybe it's not all bad!

Chelsie F.

Yelp
This was a fun little ice cream shop. We went pretty close to closing, so we were limited a little bit in the overall experience. The kids had different flavors of ice cream and enjoyed them all. I had the s'mores shake and it was delightful. I loved the presentation of the shake.

Estrella P.

Yelp
We have taken the family to Hypnotic Emporium and we all fell in love with all the flavors!!! Its so hard passing by and not be tempted to go in!!! Im a sherbet lover and they do a great job!!! We have also bought their ice cream by the pint and its so good!!! I strongly suggest you give them a visit!

Christian B.

Yelp
Nice little old fashion ice cream parlour. They have a nice selection of candies and treats. You can get your ice cream by the scoop, sundae, shake or a ice cream donut sandwich. The staff is friendly and happy to explain everything to you. For their ice cream they charge by the ounce and have a large selection. We were kinda of disappointed to hear that they do not make their own ice cream in house. After trying the ice cream, it was kinda bland. The flavors were not very dominant and just overly sweet. Not very unique.

Crystal P.

Yelp
*UPDATE* Came out today for the Johnny Cupcake Pop Up Event. Figured I'd give them another chance since we're already here. Nothing has changed. Their ice cream is still good but their Staff STILL comes across as unfriendly and as though she didn't want to be helping me. So much so that my Mother in Law walked away and decided against ordering anything. Unless Johnny Cupcakes has another Event here we definitely won't be back. Enjoyed the ice cream but not the Staff so much. They had a lot of flavors we had never heard of or had before and the Staff seemed extremely annoyed that any of us asked to try one or two of the flavors. The ice cream was good but not worth going for the rudeness of the Staff. We don't plan on returning.

Traci S.

Yelp
My husband and I finally got to go and have a sweet treat. We absolutely loved the atmosphere and the welcoming friendly vibe. I had the blueberry cheesecake ice cream and my husband had a chocolate shake. Yeah I know, he's a simple guy! He knows his chocolate shakes and it got . My ice cream was delicious the blueberries were perfect and the pieces of cheesecake were impressive. Definitely can't wait for a opportunity to go back.

Sameet R.

Yelp
I had bookmarked this place after seeing some cool pics on Insta. We drove 30 min from north dallas to here on a Sunday afternoon and left kind of disappointed. I must preface that after having the donut ice cream sandwich at Milk & cream this place is a complete letdown. So for starters, they only let you sample two flavores. We opted for the bees nees ( lavender honey flavor) and the salty dog (salted caramel). The lavender honey ice cream had good flavor but the salty dog was just meh. Now, to the "dream" their version of a donut sammich $6. Unfortunately, their donuts are crusty and not fresh, plus they're heavy. The light and fluffy donuts at milk and cream make these taste like stale pastries. I wouldn't recommend driving out to this place.

Rhonda L.

Yelp
My fav is the bee's knees ( lavender) ice cream! They are pretty friendly & helpful about letting you try samples. Their donut bun is not my fav as I feel it would be much better on a glazed bun. There should at least be an option because it's rather bland on a plain donut.

Sharon L.

Yelp
Was very disappointed that they refused to serve us at 9:03pm on Saturday night even though their published hours on their Facebook page says they are open until 11pm and on google search it say 9:30pm. Their staff is also extremely rude as all get out given their doors were open and there were about 5 other customers inside and we told them about the published hours.
