A Chain That Is Basically Chipotle-but-for-Mac-and-Cheese Is Coming to Denver - Eater Denver

"A Florida-based chain specializing in customizable bowls of macaroni and cheese is diving into Denver. On Thursday, I Heart Mac & Cheese announced via a press release that it has reached an agreement with a franchisor that will bring three locations of the chain to the Denver area. Those restaurants will be located in downtown Denver, Stapleton, and Boulder with two of the locations set to open next year and a third in 2021. However, the press release did not specify which locations will open when. I Heart Mac & Cheese applies a Chipotle-style model of service to macaroni and cheese by letting customers choose a base (there’s traditional macaroni but also broccoli, cauliflower, quinoa, bread, and even tater tots) and then from various cheeses, proteins, vegetables, and sauces that are added to customize the bowl. After that, each bowl is cooked in an ov until the cheese is gooey and melted. In addition to the customizable bowls, the restaurants also offer grilled cheeses and specialty options, including a lobster and white truffle macaroni and cheese and The Cuban bowl, a mashup of mac and cheese and a Cuban sandwich containing pulled pork, ham, Swiss cheese, and dill pickles. Customers can also pair their bowl with tomato soup while those seeking even more calories can order fresh chocolate chip cookies and marshmallow treats for dessert. I was riding my bike home from Central Park light rail station when it started raining. I had the Short Rib Philly Mac& cheese bowl which had diced short rib meat, onions, mushrooms, and Muenster cheese . ($13.49). Small portion but quite tasty with melt in your mouth meat. Fairly sterile atmosphere with pop and indie music blaring from a t. v. mounted on the wall. Quick and friendly counter service. They offer choices for vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores/carnivores.

Came here because I was craving Mac and cheese and I can safely say that my craving was filled. I was able to build my own bowl like a little freak. I got the Mac with regular cheese, pesto, chicken, and Munster cheese. It was crazy good. I definitely would come back again if I lived here (I'm a small city folk).

This place is so cute! I came with my best friend and my daughter, and we all loved the vibe—it’s definitely a fun, kid-friendly spot with an open layout and even a photo wall, which was a nice touch. The staff were super friendly and patient, which I really appreciated. As for the food, it was decent. We spent about $37, which felt a little high for what we got since the portion sizes weren’t very big. My daughter (who surprisingly doesn’t like mac & cheese—go figure!) had the tater tot bowl and actually finished the whole thing, which never happens, so that was a win. Overall, I’d definitely come back for a chill night out. It’s perfect for families and just a fun, feel-good place to visit.

We were out with the kids and thought they'd love a place like this since they love mac n' cheese, and they did, we all did! Great concept, all kinds of yummy mac varieties to choose from, quick and easy. Noodles are key, and they use my favorite, cavatappi or corkscrew pasta, perfectly cooked. I got the buffalo chicken, and it was darn tasty. The rest of the fam went classic which was good as well. If their was one closer to home, we would probably go often.

delicious food, especially their bbq mac n cheese and cheesecake dessert balls with dipping sauce (get the caramel). It takes a little longer than your normal fast casual, but putting in an order online allowed me to pick up food, quick and easy, while my niece was in the hospital nearby. They treated me so well and always had the food hot and ready!

Let's start with Mac and Cheese!! The Mac and Cheese was pretty good. I got the Buaffalo Blue, I saw a complaint someone made about too much Buffalo Sauce. Mine didn't have nearly enough, so there is still some balance needed there. That being said, it was good enough that both me and my friend went back for more food, not because there wasn't enough, we were already full but had stuff we wanted to try. I got a grilled cheese that is absolutely amazing. Their tomato soup that came with it was great also. We had some cheesecake bites for desert. They were good enough. I got more to take back to the hotel. Our server Kavi was super friendly and did an excellent job. I highly recommend giving the place a try. The Mac and cheese seemed a little pricey for what you get, but the sandwiches we had afterwords were steller.

Listen, if you're looking for some good tasty cheesy comfort food, this is a good spot. They have Mac n cheese bowls and grilled cheese sandwiches...or combos. Super nice lady behind the counter recommended 'the best of both worlds', which is a grilled cheese with Mac n cheese (and short ribs) on it, super delicious and lots of food. I got the combo, which means it came with a side (broccoli and cheese, which was pretty good but bland) and a few tater tots and a soda. Reason for 4 stars is it's a bit too pricey...$20+ (before tip) for a grilled cheese with some broccoli and a soda is too much for a fast food strip shop IMHO...but it won't stop me from returning if I'm in the mood.

I heart mac and cheese is a place I would definitely eat again! They have a good amount of vegan options and every item is customizable. I ordered a vegan grilled cheese with beyond meat crumbles, tomato's, and green onions. It was very filling and the flavor was impeccable. I didn't order a side but I received tator tots anyways which was an added bonus. We used door dash so I'm not sure what the restaurant is like. They did make our order very quickly and it was delivered in less than an hour which was amazing!

First time here. It was different and interesting and they had something for the whole crew. From the vegan Mac and cheese to classic comfort food of grilled cheese and tots, everyone left satisfied. It's a small place that I'm guessing is mostly take-out, as the place is pretty compact with around 10 or so tables. Service was friendly. There were hardly any people there so we found a table no problem. You can pretty much create whatever combo you want. I liked the vegan Mac and cheese but it was a little bland. A dash of salt and pepper would have probably been the ticket. I'm not a spicy food person at all. The grilled cheeses and tots were yummy and the Buffalo Mac and cheese has just the right amount of kick.

Build your own and a kids Mac and cheese came with is and it was DELICIOUS. I did sourdough, white cheddar, onion, mushrooms. Was perfect. The combo got me tots (not a ton but great!) Way to take a Grill Cheese to the next level. I had a build your own grill cheese and the Sourdough bread was fabulous. Feels like ordering from any sandwich shop, first you pick your bread, then cheese, then vegies and finally your protein. You can also add mac and cheese to your sandwich. Once they have all the ingredients, they have several grills to cook your sandwich. Very fresh and decadent grill cheese. Sandwich also includes a small tomato soup for dipping. NICE TOUCH! The grill cheese comes with tater tots. Very soggy and not worth it. I might ask whether they could cook a little longer next time. The cheese cake bites are too sweet and not worth the calories. Would go with another dessert if you're in the mood. Be careful of the caffeinated Starbucks customers flying around the corner while trying to park your car. They are clueless of other stores and other customers. Great new option for the neighborhood. Can't wait to try their bowls.

Wow! This place is amazing. I wish they had more locations close to me. First off, cleanest bathroom I have ever been in! So much so I had to take a pic. Lol. Wife ordered the build your own grilled cheese which she said was delicious. They gave her a side of tomato soup for dunking. Nice! For around $12 bucks she got the sandwich, some tots and a drink. Place itself was very clean and judging by the line at the drive through, the local folks love it! Definitely, worth a visit, and most likely multiple!

Definitely made the atmosphere more welcoming! The food was delicious! They had a lot of different combinations of food and vegan option is always appreciated! The pasta itself was great, not hard and not too soft. All veggies and sauce was fresh and flavored perfectly! The tator tots were crispy and seasoned so it's definitely one of my favorite parts. It's unique how the place is run like a customizable menu with its quality. The menu has many variations of food combinations which really bring a nice touch to the kind of Mac and cheese you wanna eat. You don't expect to eat Mac and cheese with veggies and protein and different sauces which is neat. If you're indecisive, they have simple signature dishes. It's also super cute and clean! The interior is so cute, open spaced, and put together. Definitely recommend taking pictures with its cute background! Overall, this place exceeded my expectations and I definitely want to come back and enjoy the experience again!

Great addition to the neighborhood. I will say - at first I really thought this place was gimmicky, but after giving it a try, i really came to enjoy it! They're still trying to get a hang of it, but totally understandable for a new place. Everyone is so super friendly. The menu has a great selection of macaroni and sandwiches. I love that they serve the sandwiches with a small side of tomato soup - it's truly so tasty. The only thing I will say is that the tots need salt desperately.

Fast casual line like Chipotle where you pick your ingredients. Some indoor seating - metal tables and chairs. I ordered the "Build Your Own" Mac n Cheese, wth elbow mac, scallions, broc, mushrooms, ham, and two slices of pepperjack. They put everything through a conveyor belt salamander (restaurant broiler) for a few minutes, then stir everything up after it's been heated. If I go back I am going to go with cheddar cheese because their "cheese sauce" is not very cheesy at all. Might see if they would do half parm half cheddar. You can do a broccoli or cauliflower base instead of pasta. I weighed the container when I got home - 1lb 3 oz of food for 13 bucks plus tip. Sure, mostly inexpensive pasta, but if you don't feel like making your own mac n cheese or need something for a quick lunch or dinner option, I'd say it's not a bad deal.

Oh, where to start... Ordered pick up to take to our favorite trivia night- wanted to try their vegan Mac and cheese. The food is WAY overpriced for the amount given - a tiny ( and I mean TINY) container with cold tater tot's for $4.75??!? The food tasted unflavored- bland. Nothing special at all. When I picked up the bag in store, the manager (I assumed) was sitting at one of the table with (I assume) an employee. I asked if utensils were in the bag, he responded with an enthusiastic, "yes!". I'm glad I checked when I got to the car, because, as you can imagine, dear reader, NOPE! Why would you say they were there if you didn't know?!? Or did you just lie?!? Or just don't care!?!? When I went back into the "restaurant" to retrieve the missing utensils, all I got was an unenthusiastic "oh, sorry". Avoid this place. The food is sub par and the customer service is deplorable.

A must stop location for all cheese lovers. The grilled cheese with mac and cheese added to it is truly something special. There is a large variety of cheeses, meat, and veggies to add to your sandwich or bowl. The chocolate chip cookies are INCREDIBLE- you will definitely need more than one.

We ordered the Cuban grilled cheese, the chicken parm bowl, and a side of classic Mac bites. The cuban was really good! The park could use more sauce, but was a good amount of food overall. The Mac bites were a bit bland and could use some seasoning. Also got a cup of chocolate chip cookies which were soft and amazing! So, takeaway is: food is a bit under seasoned, but good. It's rare that I give a one star review, this was my first. But this company charges 4 times the price of deluxe craft max and cheese, and it literally tastes worse. You can save money and have better food elsewhere. The portions are small, the flavor is literally the same as if you made noodles at home, the only reason to ever visit her is convenience, and that's if you're sacrificing meal quality for convenience in the first place. If you want max for dinner, go somewhere else. If you want anything else, go someplace else. I heart Mac is the worst Mac and cheese restaurant in all of Denver. Blazing chicken is 15 minutes away and worth the extra drive time.

I came here around 8pm. The only worker- blond guy with facial hair- was sitting in the corner at a table. I awkwardly stood at the counter for a few minutes. He eventually comes over to help with no explanation of what's happening. He was clearly agitated and annoyed. I asked if they were still open. He was still agitated and annoyed. At that point, I did not trust him to make my food so I left. This was such a weird experience and a bad first impression. Maybe his frustrations should be with management and not customers just trying to order food. I posted about my experience on their Instagram page. Someone responded that I should email them and they'd follow up. It's been almost 2 weeks and no one has followed up. I posted again on their Instagram page but they deleted my comment. This was my first and last visit.

I've only been here once but the chicken parm Mac and cheese and the tomato soup were very good! I was just a little sad that there were no cheesecake balls (I think that's what I tried to order because they looked really good!) but the person that helped me with my phone order told me that that their supplier had been out of those for a few weeks at that point. I don't blame them. I'd come back for sure but it's a drive and I just happened to be by here when I was in Denver. Absolutely what I was craving! I was hesitant about another trendy counter service spot with a fancy wall, but IMac & Cheese is an A++ craving satisfying stop. I did a build your own bowl and added a 3 pc of the bacon jalapeño bites. The bowl was exactly how I wanted it without a bunch of crazy up charges. The base cheese sauce is phenomenal. The toppings looked and tasted fresh. Everything is baked and mixed together, making it a perfect Mac!

I really enjoyed the food (I ordered "the best of both worlds" sandwich). Most of my party thought the food was just ok. I'd return to this place for lunch if I were in the area. However, I wouldn't go out of my way, partly due to the cost.

I brought my two kids here because it looked fun, keep in my mind, my kids are not picky eaters and will eat almost anything but did not touch their mac and cheese again after one bite. Awful experience. Waited in line for about 15 minutes, wasn't crowded but the staff seemed overwhelmed nontheless. Once we ordered, we waited an additional 25 min or so and saw that people who ordered after us got their food before us. Once we asked, the owner of the place blankly looked at us and said he gave our food to someone else. After 40 minutes, the manager handled the situation by only offering our money back. Totally embarrassing and will never go back.
