The staff were absolutely lovely and very accommodating of the fact we only spoke English. The food was by far the best meal I’ve had since travelling Italy. This place is an absolute must for anyone nearby who enjoys good pasta! Will make an effort to come back when we’re here again for sure.

Be prepared to venture off the beaten track for this one, if you are staying in the usual tourist area this is quite the trek whether that is worth it would be completely up to personal preference. This is a rustic place, not fancy and not trying to be anything it isnt just no frills good food. The Porchetta was nice but unfortunately not mind blowing and I would have preferred it warm but the two main courses were very nice. Looking at the "Pork Wellington" esque dish at first I was worried it would be dry but the moisture in the pastry and sauce stopped this from happening, the asparagus was lovely and buttery which was an added bonus. The Pork Leg took me back to my childhood especially chewing at the bone like a savage, very juicy & tender a great piece of meat paired well with a sweet baked apple. Service was great and the waiter did a superb job at guiding us to the dishes to suit our desires. This one will divide opinions but for me was an enjoyable and different experience from the usual tourist trap locations

Said Anthony Bourdain came here and loving their Porchetta. Charming local Italian trattoria with very friendly and fast service. Delicious food and wine.

Pasta was amazing! Water was very friendly, and there was an English menu available. Highly recommend.

One of the best restaurants in Rome! I still have the taste of memories. Missing that restaurant and the amazing food there.

Porchetta, cacio e pepe, seafood pasta, and house wine made it a great meal. The house wine was really good for the price, a white with tinges of bananas. Seafood pasta was so good, and finished fast that we didn't have the time to snap a picture. Porchetta was crispy and tinge with all the subtleties of their herb. Far enough from the touristy areas, actually in the University area, so not much around in the form of hustle and bustle of the city center.

Super tasty place. We visited this restaurant twice a week.

Google
The place was completely packed but they still managed to find me a table. The waiter seemed a bit overwhelmed but still managed to provide very good service. He made good recommendations. Got the the house specialty which is the Porchetta to start and it was very very good. The main dish took a while, but considering there only seemed to be one server for both floors can't really complain.

Yelp
Located in a really sketchy area - held onto my boyfriend's hand pretty fiercely. The place is a total dive but really wanted to try the porchetta. Started off with some red table wine for €9 which refilled our glasses twice. Bruschetta con olive o pomodoro n'duja €2 Crispy delicious bread with fresh juicy tomatoes with an olive oil drizzle. Tagliere di porchetta fatta da noi €6 Tender delicious salty pork that nearly melts in your mouth. It doesn't need any accompaniments, the pork stands on its own.

Yelp
The best everything Italian food I have ever had. When we visited mama was making tortilini by hand and saw her cutting up noodles too. The restaurant was featured on Anthony Bourdain at some point as well. The server who was related to mama was helpful and assisted us with English too which helped us decide what we wanted. If I go back to Rome again I am eating there every single day, it was the best restaurant I was able to eat at while staying in Rome. I'm posting way too many pics of the meal because it was all incredibly fabulous, made with love and pizazz! PS it is a bit away from the tourism spots and near the university so finding parking wasn't a problem for us either. I must get back there again!

Yelp
After walking all morning long my wife and I decided to get some lunch at I Porchettoni a San Lorenzo. I first saw this place on the episode of the Layover and it looked amazing. This place definitely lived up to our expectations and the pasta was fresh and delicious. As an appetizer we got the Porchetta and Bruschetta both of which tasted incredible with a cold beer. We will definitely be returning here before we leave Rome.

Got the the house specialty which is the Porchetta to start and it was very very good. The main dish took a while, but considering there only seemed to be one server for both floors can't really complain. The Amatriciana was simply perfect. Over all the wine was by far the weakest aspect of the meal. The prices were very reasonable and it had a great vibe. All in all no complaints here. Tl;dr Excellent place. Make your way to this restaurant you won't regret it. Great food, great service!

Yelp
So Good! We had a wonderful lunch here amongst many locals. The service was easy going, and welcoming. The porchetta was amazing!

Yelp
I Porchettoni was hands down the best experience in Rome. Friendly service, wonderful staff and if any place will make you feel like home & family, it's this one. We came to Rome for the first time and this place did not disappoint. We loved it here and they made us feel incredibly welcome and the food was delicious. The porchetta was truly amazing and well worth the hype. Keep doing what you are doing, I Porchettoni! We will definitely be back again soon!

Yelp
It's rare that yelp leads one astray, but I'm afraid this is one of those times. The Porchetta was tasty but it was room temperature. Our pasta and salad came out 20 minutes after the pork and both had a ton of salt. Usually I'm upset when restaurants under salt an entrée but this was way too much- not very enjoyable. The prices were low so that was fair and service was friendly.

Yelp
This place was amazing! They were so nice to us and helped us understand the menu very well. I recommend the tiramisu!

Yelp
Authentic italian porchetta is harder and harder find these days in Rome. The city has become maybe too expensive for vendors. I Porchettoni serve true porchetta from Ariccia... They have a great reputation (and 2 locations, both good) which is well deserved.

Yelp
On our trip to Italy, we had been to Florence, Venice, and Rome. This was by far the best food I have had on my trip to Italy! We had the best time! The bread could stand alone, it was moist and flavorful. We had ordered Cacio e Pepe, I would recommend. But with that I would include the Straccetti di manzo. You will not regret it. I will be craving this meal until my return to Italy. Quite affordable, including the house wine. We were the only non locals here and it was busy for a January evening. Only possible complaint is the dessert. We had the tiramisu, which did not resemble tiramisu I've ever had in the past. I would suggest a bakery or somewhere that actually specializes in dessert for that. In my opinion, this place is a must!

Yelp
This place is awesome and the staff was super friendly and helpful. I never really muck liked pork before, but I loved the porchetta i ate here. Also, I ordered pasta carbonara, which was lovely. Other than that, i also enjoyed the house wine(white). Loved this place. It was 15euros for a porchetta appetizer, a quarter of house wine and a pasta carbonara. Ps: i went a second day, and ordered a home. Made pasta. It was absolutely fabulous though it was a bit expensive. 15 euros for one pasta.

Yelp
Delicious gnocchi, probably the best I've had. Mine was with a red sauce, sausage and pork! Reminds me of what Nonna makes! The house red wine was a lovely accompaniment!
google avatar

Yelp
Bourdain let us down. The pork was dryer and under seasoned. Cheek was over salted. Gnocchi were sad and way to large, poorly cooked and mushy. And the salad was sad, romaine, olives and tomatoes.

Yelp
After seeing this restaurant's high rating we were excited to try it out for lunch. Bad choice. When we tried to order our pasta dishes - which each cost no more than 10 euros, according to the menu - the waiter insisted on changing up our plates to whatever they had on special. We couldn't really understand what he was saying so we continued pointing to the dish on the menu that we wanted to order. The waiter also continued pressuring us to order an aperitivo (starter) as well as a second plate. We had to repeatedly say NO thank you, we just want the pasta. About 40 minutes later our plates finally arrived (the place was empty except for us and another family) and my ravioli was one giant piece of pasta, with barely any filling! It was also barely warm. Guil's pasta was supposed to come with mushrooms, but instead came with sausage. We also ordered a beer and glass of house wine. When we asked for the check, the waiter insisted we order dessert. We had to reject him SEVERAL times before he left us alone. It was a bit uncomfortable at this point. He then took over 20 minutes to bring us the check... when he was walking around talking to the other waiter and chef right in front of us the whole time!!! When the check arrived it was 40 EUROS. Keep in mind that the plates we ordered were no more than 10 euros each, and my house wine could not have cost more than 3 euros, as per other restaurants in the area. They gave us an aggregate check that didn't break each meal down by price. When we asked how in the world our bill was so high, the waiter told us that we ordered the "special dishes" of the day, which were each 16 euros, according to the waiter. WE NEVER ORDERED OFF ANY SPECIAL MENU. In fact, we never even SAW a "specials menu"! We ordered off the regular menu, and literally saw the prices in front of us when we did. In the end, we were robbed by this restaurant who clearly made it their goal to take advantage of tourists. We also noticed them trying to push dessert on a couple that was leaving when we arrived. Disgusting.

Yelp
My husband and I are staying in San Lorenzo and just had the most excellent dinner here. If you like porchetta, theirs is awesome--well seasoned, generously served, and beyond tasty. For dinner we each had a home-made pasta (ravioli and fettuccine) both of which were simply but convincingly executed. What really prompts me to write this review--beyond the well priced and savory food--is the staff. Our waiter Sergio and the owner Carlo were attentive, funny, conversational, and kind. They stressed we take our time with the meal and savor the evening--we did--ending our meal with an excellent panna cotta and a grappa on the house. Thanks guys!!!

Yelp
Arrived around 10pm looking for the all-you-can-eat pasta deal that is advertised on a few travel blogs. It was our first night in Rome, so why not indulge in a pasta coma if possible- it's part of the reason we wanted to vacation here! When we asked about the deal, the waiter told us that the deal was only for five or more people at once. Makes sense, but I wish that was advertised on their website and then own menus - which had the pasta deal posted all over them. Already disappointed with that, we ordered recommendations from the waiter who was noticeably a little fidgety. Don't blame him, he probably wanted to get us served as soon as possible due to the restaurant closing in two hours. I ordered ravioli with meat sauce, and my friend ordered linguini with red meat sauce. Food came, food was eaten. Overall, tasted just ok. Based on all the great restaurants we passed on the route here, we missed a potential great meal somewhere else.

Yelp
This is the best food we had in Italy, hands down! We had the mozzarella e prosciutto for an appetizer, cacio e pepe, and straccetti di manzo. It was to die for! Especially the straccetti di manzo. Not to mention, the food is incredibly affordable and the staff was super nice! We will return here on our next trip for sure.

Yelp
This is the best traditional Roman food. They are famous for their Porchetta!!! It is awesome. I Porchettoni in the San Lorenzo District of Roma is only 5 minutes from Termini Train Station. It is in the University District of Roma. Famous for generous portions at a cheap price!!! They have all of the traditional Roman pasta dishes cooked to perfection, like carbonara and amatriciana as well as pasta with truffles during truffle season! The owner, Alessandro, speaks perfect English and is very cordial and entertaining. People should always make this a "must see" trattoria when visiting Roma!
