"A different kind of ice cream sandwich is coming to Oakland’s Temescal district this January. I Scream Donuts will move into the Tara’s Organic Ice Cream shop, which is closing on December 30. I Scream Donuts comes from Katie Wages, who partially grew up in Sacramento and fell in love with a recent food trend there: ice cream doughnuts." - Janelle Bitker

This ice cream shop is is literally a hole in the wall, but it is worth stopping by between 6 and 9:30 pm. Their ice cream is made in small batches by the East Bay Ice Cream Company (a local business). We stopped here (when we were just walking by) because we never heard of a Ice Cream Donut. Well, it is for real!!! It is super FRESH! It doesn't last long because when they hand it to you the donut is hot...and it is melting the ice cream. Tip: buy one I Scream Donut and share it with a good friend. Take turns nibbling and licking the work of culinary art. Make sure your hands are clean before you start so you can lick your fingers. I guess if you are really good friends--you lick each other's fingers. If you finish the whole thing, and your are still hungry--order another one.

Glad this place was open after finishing lunch nearby (Sunday around 14:00). Sometimes the store is open outside of posted hours. Also glad we tried the ice cream donut for the novelty, although Krispy Kreme glazed still can't be beat. The donut was very okay and took away from the ice cream. The ice cream is very good on its own and doesn't need a donut. Might stop by for just the ice cream next time! Pros: tasty ice cream, interesting flavors Cons: parking, $7/ice cream donut

I loved this small ice cream shop. Simple. Low key. Good quality. Good flavors. Friendly and helpful worker / owner(?).

The service was great and the donut was delicious but I would have the ice cream by itself instead of having it with donuts though. The sweetness of the donut overpowers the flavor of the icecream.

Loved the ice cream! I got geranium ice cream in a donut and it was the best thing ever! A cute kind of hole in the wall, sweet, and friendly shop that I will be going back to soon. Love that they have Tara’s Ice Cream and the mix of cool flavors and the cool sesame ice cream cone! Definitely go here if you love ice cream and/or donuts!

A great place to go when you're looking for something sweet after stuffing yourself at any of the nearby restaurants, I Scream Donuts has quickly become my go-to place for dessert. They offer a good variety of flavors, and although you can order your ice cream in a cup or cone, the true star is the donut. I have already had two in the past week, one with apple pie ice cream, and the other with sweet corn. Both were equally delicious and well worth braving the crowds outside for. The staff is incredibly friendly, the store is neat and clean, and local artists are welcomed to showcase their work in the front of the shop. If this hasn't yet enticed you then let me reiterate, they sell ice cream in a donut! It was something I never knew I needed, but will definitely be bringing me back for more in the following weeks.

I was really looking forward to this place. Who can't get behind the idea of ice cream inside a donut? I've had churro ice cream sandwiches and loved them. I ordered the chocolate ice cream donut sandwich; it comes standard with a glazed donut. It came out quickly after I placed my order. As others have said it's tricky to eat, I found working around the edges 360 degrees to be the most effective way. Sadly, the result was ice cream I didn't care for inside a donut I didn't care for. They were both "meh" and together the result was "meh". I read the ice cream was homemade small batch using local ingredients...I really don't want to sound mean but I would've preferred Clover brand. I'm not sure what kind of donuts they use, but maybe upping the product there could improve the end package? Don't know. Given the many outstanding reviews I'm obviously in the minority here but just my 2 cents.

I've only tried the milkshake and it was horrible! I ended up throwing it away before finishing it. It quickly turned warm and it was of a watery consistency and tasted more like milk than the flavored ice cream. There was absolutely no fluff to the whipped cream. I walked out with an ice cream cone and 2 milkshakes and spent $20!
