Google
I give Ice Cream Riot 5 stars for the taste of their ice cream. I had Andes Mint, and I loved it. The scooper with pink hair was super friendly and welcoming. There is Philly stuff on the walls indicating the owner's home town. There is also lots of pictures of people or animals eating ice cream, which is fun to look at. You will see a sign by the cash register that says "Potheads Welcome", and the motto on their website is "Roll Joints Not Ice Cream", which may appeal to you or turn you off. If you don't park close (meter parking), you may have to pass some sketchy people to or from, which is typical for Colfax.

Google
went to get some late night ice cream and just entering the place it was immediately inviting and dope. the walls with the various pictures of random ice cream related things. the ice cream is amazing and portions were generous! overall 5 because it was super cool.

Sophie Wang

Google
This well-decorated, small local joint is a great, casual ice-cream creator! Pleasantly surprised with the flavors, they have a wide range of ice-cream-related treats that are very impressive I.e. ice cream sandwiches, pints to go, cannoli, etc. I had the dark cookies n cream which I highly, highly recommend! My second flavor was also good, just not as stand-out in my opinion. No tastings during the pandemic, which is fine as the employees give very helpful explanations to each flavor. Overall, great joint, would return.

Google
Like this ice cream shop. The flavors are nice, the staff were great, and the shop was clean. Caramel Cookie Brownie ice cream was so creamy and so, so good. It’s also a convenient location that is 1 block away from a bus stop as well. Another must try ice cream shop on Colfax!

Aminah

Google
Great creamy ice cream! Great service. This delicious treat made my evening. I ordered the dark Oreo and Nutella. Both were fantastic. My mom ordered the strawberry shortcake and oatmeal, again just fantastic. They give generous portions. I’ll be back

Rachel Brower

Google
Oh yeah. Definitely go here. The ice cream is delicious. The goldfish ice cream actually tastes like goldfish, and it's delicious. The ice cream cookie sandwiches are legit. One of the best ice cream sandwiches we've had in a long time. And the person behind the counter was super helpful/friendly. I'd 100% recommend this place.

Cody Soule

Google
What an experience! These guys know what they're doing with ice cream. Great selection of some not-so-standard flavors (cinnamon toast crunch, crunch berries, lucky charms, dirty Oreo, golden Oreo) along with the standard favorites. Highly recommend the pop-tart ice cream sandwiches! A ton of ice cream sandwiched between two pop-tarts. Something I've never seen before but I'm looking forward to having one again! They also have ready-to-eat ice cream sandwiches with thin cookies, as well as a ton of pints. With all of this, they also have a full selection of Philly water ice, and pints to-go of that as well. All-in-all this is definitely an ice cream shop worth checking out if you're in the area, we will definitely be back!

Lauren Liebowitz

Google
The ice cream flavor selection is weird (most of it is cereal flavors) but it tastes good and you can sample a variety first. I really liked the maple flavor he had when I was there. The place really seems to stand for what it believes in and I appreciate that. Also enjoyed the music selection while I was eating. The guy behind the counter (the owner, I think) was very direct and to-the-point, so if you're like me and you talk too much, you might annoy him, but it didn't seem to affect his professionalism. There are ice cream sandwiches made with pop tarts? I didn't try one but I found the idea kind of fascinating.

Yelp
I was so excited to try Ice Cream Riot on my recent trip to Denver. I walked almost 25 minutes from the apartment where I was staying to Ice Cream Riot to sample their famous Pop-Tart ice cream sandwiches (which is exactly what it sounds like, ice cream wedged between two layers of Pop-Tarts)! I checked both Yelp and Google to confirm the business's hours of operation, as well as the business's website. It was listed online that the business opened at 1PM on weekdays; however, when I arrived at 1:05PM, the store was not yet open. I waited around for almost 20 minutes thinking that maybe whomever was opening the store was running late, but no one ever arrived. There were no signs posted to communicate a change in the hours of operation and there was no indication on the business's website to indicate a change in hours or unexpected closure. I called hours later to see if the store had finally been opened, and I called the next day. No one ever answered my calls. I even checked Ice Cream Riot's Facebook page, but nothing. I was so excited to try Ice Cream Riot, but I never got the chance during my trip. I hope if the business has unexpected changes to business hours in the future that it is better communicated to patrons.

Rachel H.

Yelp
The line moved fast, with several employees behind the counter. Simple to extravagant flavors and everything in between. I got the maraschino Cherry pint. The pink is cuutteee!! However, I GOT ONE CHERRY IN A PINT! One cherry. That's it. Just one. with that being said, I will not go back. I can buy Ben and Jerry's for half the cost.

David G.

Yelp
One of my kids ( and their BF) are totally addicted to Ice Cream Riot....and I can see why. This is gonna make me sound like an old codger but every week they would have uber eats deliver them milk shakes from here....like dude get in a car and drive 5 minutes and save the coin....but whatever. I must admit the cookies and cream shake is insanely good. Their ice cream is delicious..... If you are near Colfax and it aint freezing out....check them out

Alden C.

Yelp
I saw a friend's Facebook post with pictures that he went here. I am a real sucker for ice cream and had to put Ice Cream Riot on my "to try" list the next time I would visit Denver. And on my last trip back I did! For one their business hours don't match up across the board at all. Google and their website lists them as being open seven days a week but they aren't. If I remember correctly I came here on a Monday and the place was shuttered. I returned in a day or two and they were open. Their actual hours are posted on the door as you go in but I didn't see this series of information anywhere else. As far as the ice cream goes? It isn't too bad. I have other ice cream shops that I prefer but it's okay. It just didn't come across as anything special. And maybe it was because I picked a more basic flavor, vanilla but I don't think I'd feel too much different if I picked a different one but the place is okay in a pinch. Other than the store hour issues that's the only real complaint I had. I think my lukewarm attitude to the ice cream was more based in preference.

Shin M.

Yelp
So this is a normal ice cream place that offers novelty ice cream- a pop tart ice cream sandwich. I did not try it... instead I had one scoop of nutella ice cream. It was a very good portion and it was $6. It tasted pretty good! The man that was working there tho- I feel he could have been a tad friendlier? I didn't feel very welcomed and he made me feel kind of stupid when I asked questions about their novelty ice cream. They also don't offer free samples. They had one four person table and 3 high top bar seats. Apparently they want their customers in and out. Overall ok experience.

Todd J.

Yelp
While visiting family in Aurora my wife heard about this place and of course we had to try it. The pop tart sandwiches are no joke and literally serve 5 people. However we all know we don't go to ice cream places to eat lite. The ice cream and all of the the items we tried were phenomenal. Services was great and the ambiance was great! If your in Denver check this place out.

Ryan A.

Yelp
My wife LOVED the "dirty cookies and cream" and I could not get enough of their 'Crunch Berry' and 'Fruity Pebbles' cereal ice creams; I was transported back to Saturday morning watching cartoons. 5/5 - must come to this spot if you like ice cream.

Danielle F.

Yelp
Icecream is AMAZING HERE! I just moved to Colorado from the East Coast & can say I've never had such interesting icecream options at a shop before.... Specifically I'm talking about their Icecream pop-tart options! Been here twice since moving here a week and a half ago & totally worth the drive from Colorado Springs to Denver for it! The pop tarts are fairly priced too, only $7 bucks and they are HUGE! I've attached some photos for reference for y'all (: the sandwich comes with what looks to be 4 BIG scoops of icecream. Only reason it's not a 5 star is because the owner of the restaurant is not very friendly, he was snarky both times I've been. Overall though; the icecream makes up for the not so pleasant nature of the owner.

rachel c.

Yelp
All you need to know about this place- lazy ice cream flavors (everything is basically a vanilla or chocolate base with cookies/cereal blended in) and terrible service. The owner is incredibly rude, it caught everyone in my party by surprise. Not sure what his deal is, but he clearly does not want his customers to have a good experience getting ice cream. Overall, for basic ice cream and insulting service, I would not go back. 1 star- avoid

Robert M.

Yelp
The three star was not based on the ice cream. As the ice cream was delicious. The service was horrible we were not greeted at all only ones in the store and basically we were bothering the guy running the front. There are plenty of options for dessert near by I would recommend trying another option.

Jim C.

Yelp
The dirty Oreo was the best I've had in a while. Total yum. We were visiting from out of state, and it was a close walk from the venue and other food.

Andy O.

Yelp
Did DoorDash and the thing is the ice cream tastes good but the consistency is the same - no chunks. This makes the ice cream bland and non-interesting. Glad I didn't go in, sounds like the owner is a handful.

Kirsten W.

Yelp
Amazing ice cream and water ice! They have a variety of flavors that are made in-house including unique options like Goldfish ice cream. The shop is unassuming, filled with pop culture pictures of famous people eating ice cream. I can tell the owners are from Philly because the water ice tastes SO refreshing and the texture is nice and smooth. I'm a big fan of their milkshakes which are really thick and creamy (Captain Crunch Berry) I also highly recommend the cannolis and poptart sandwiches, you can buy them to-go and keep them in your fridge for dessert. First time I ever had an ice cream sandwich using poptarts instead of cookies but it works really well and tastes delicious. Staff are very friendly as well. The only downside is the prices are on the higher end, ex. milkshakes are like $10 each.

Ashley L.

Yelp
I actually really love the ice cream here, but the last 3 times I've gone, their door has been locked during business hours with people in the back. Once, bad timing. But 3x... that's disappointing. 2 stars because their ice cream is seriously the best in denver.

Emma S.

Yelp
Warning: No samples at this ice cream place! How are you supposed to pick a flavor! Lost my business because of it.

Henry F.

Yelp
Sort of wondering how the place can stay in business. I gave two stars because the lady on duty was nice. Went there to get a banana split or pineapple sundae. NO, they offered ice cream with sugary sprinkles that looked like they would cause a diabetic coma. For non dairy products they offered what was slushy cherry and other colors. I had vanilla and chocolate in a bowl. No Rocky Road ice cream either. The chocolate ice cream I got did not taste like chocolate and I could not really identify the taste. Located in a slightly seedy section of the town, at least at night

Itza A.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came in here today to look for good ice cream, the decorations feel like they're on point but man, same as another reviewer said: which is simple ice cream flavors and over priced. Saw a butterfinger ice cream which was just butter fingers and vanilla ice cream, asked for it to be a shake ($10.00 by the way), and the owner was super rude about it. Immediately after he just scoffed and said "ok" as if it was a big unnecessary request, and continued to talk to his coworker who was in another room while completely ignoring us. I was about to order their fruity pebbles ice cream, but after that there was no way. We should've walked away in the middle of him making it, but we had been tired all day and wanted a snack. If you want good business that treats you right, don't come here.

Wiley S.

Yelp
This is my favorite place for ice cream in Denver and unfortunately they're closing permanently but please come for the next few days to stock up on amazing ice cream and delicious water ice cream

Ivy B.

Yelp
A friend of mine who grew up on the east coast wanted me to try "water ice" so we ended up here. They had some fun fruity flavors and I settled on mango. It was nice and refreshing but I don't think I have the same nostalgic factor as others when it comes to water ice. I'm sure 99% of the time, I would choose a traditional ice cream, but I'm glad I can say I have tried it. For those curious - it's sort of a hybrid between a snow cone and slurpee - not carbonated, but has a smooth consistency and is thick enough you need to eat it with a spoon and not a straw. I also poked around the traditional ice cream flavors and creations. Nothing really wowed me and it seemed more gimmicky than anything else. They have store bought pop tart ice cream sandwiches, which just seems like a random way to try to be unique instead of building something in house. I will say the service was excellent and the young woman working behind the counter was great about guiding me through options and samples. I just think there are so many better options to cool down with a nice treat in Denver, I would skip this one.

Eileen C.

Yelp
Don't go here. Horrible experience with a middle-aged white man, based on other reviews he is probably the owner. He was stressed because it was just him working. Instead of pausing doordash and not accepting online orders, he chose to act extemely rude and erratic to the customers in the store. Then, while we waited to order, a person came in to pick up a door dash to deliver. The owner immediately freaked out and yelled at them, demanding they leave the store. He threatened physical violence, made disparaging/bigoted remarks, then called the police. While we waited for the police he kicked us and all other customers out and locked the person in the store with him. We stayed to make sure they got out safely. It was extremely frightening and I will never go back to this business.

Nicholas F.

Yelp
This place is not it. The vibe was off and server acted like they did not want to be there. Also can't sample anything so be prepared to blow some cash on something gross even if they tell you everything taste good. Crunch Berries is nasty af just a heads up. Hard pass on this place, way too hyped.

David C.

Yelp
What a cool ice cream gem on Colfax! It says a lot that I didn't take any pictures of the ice cream shake I got; I was too excited about how good it was to remember. I would highly recommend the shake as it's about 4 scoops of ice cream and tastes great with the dirty cookies and cream flavor. The employee at the time was super friendly as well. Go check it out sometime!

Richard C.

Yelp
The guy/owner of this business is a rude p.o.s.! You walk in and he just sits there on his laptop completely ignoring you. If you say something to him before he decides to get up, he begins to act unprofessional, and calls you rude for stating that you are there. I'll be completely surprised is this arrogant man keeps this business if he continues to be such an ass!

Erica C.

Yelp
Yummo! Friendly fast service. Delicious ice cream. The dirty & golden Oreo together was perfection.

Samantha L.

Yelp
I'm honestly shocked this place has been open since 2014.. like how? lol I've never been treated this way in any sort of establishment before. Im pregnant and after dinner was really craving ice cream. We start it off by walking in and getting greeted like we were a nuisance. After asking if a flavor was available and him (the owner) saying no, I started looking at other flavors. My sisters girlfriend asks what I'm looking for, and I said I wasn't sure because I really wanted cookies and cream. She then asks the owner who has been standing in front of us the whole time, "sir is this cookies and cream?" He proceeds to say, "yes, I just told her this straight to her face." Shocked by his comment and demeanor.. and basically being called a liar-- I kindly say, "no you really didn't.. but yeah I'm okay, I don't really want ice cream anymore." He then scoffs and laughs at me as I'm walking out. My husband asks him, "what's so funny?" The owner: "her reply was just comical." Continues to laugh while rolling his eyes. They both have comments back and forth to each other on the way out and we leave. I don't know why anyone would spend their money here.. if I had read all the poor reviews about the flavors and the owners CONTINUED poor attitude to his customers prior, I wouldn't have wasted mine or my families time. Highly recommend finding somewhere else unless you want to be treated like trash. I would also like to add that I really do not like to leave bad reviews. Usually I post glowing reviews of places I love but this place/ owner really rubbed me the wrong way.

Christopher B.

Yelp
This was a really nice surprise. I happened to be in the area and craving some ice cream. I didn't really know what to expect but the ice cream was creamy and full of flavor. The interior was a bit interesting with all the photos on the wall but appropriate for their theme. Definitely worth checking out.

Mai L.

Yelp
Ok so I can never say no to a good ice cream sammie. When you walk in, the walls are filled with photos of ice cream, ice cream with celebrities, ice cream in cartoons, ICE CREAM. To the left is a freezer with pre-made ice cream sandwiches in it YUM. They have them with regular old school wafer style cookies or different pop tarts as the sandwich. V cool. I checked out the flavors behind the freezer counter. They had some cool flavors like Nutella, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Dirty Cookies & Cream I think it was called - basically cookies and cream but made with chocolate ice cream. Uh yes. I ended up getting the dirty cookies & cream in ice cream sandwich form. We took them to-go since we wanted it to thaw a bit. The ice cream was delicious!! The cookie wafer was drier than I expected but still good. I keep thinking about this place and can't wait to go back. I hope they will still have the Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavor!!!

Surafale A.

Yelp
Amazing!!! Try the coffee & cookies and cream shake. It's delicious. The staff is great and they're open late...a huge plus for all you stoners. It is $8 which is a lil too expensive but it's really good. The prices for all other items seems to be fairly average and not out of the ordinary. Food/Drink: A+ Service: A Ambiance: B Menu: B Price: C

Scott R.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing ice cream store. Next level treats! Jim was working and went out of his way to make our experience was an amazing time.. this place rocks!! definitely will be back every time I'm in Colorado

Amy G.

Yelp
Drove 30 minutes to get some ice cream here and found a sign on the door that they were closed for break until 6:30pm. We got there at 6:08, went to little man instead. Huge bummer.

James P.

Yelp
Not very clean, not allowed to sample so I didn't like my oatmeal cream pie, and my wife wouldn't eat hers. Both tasted freezer burnt. Our kids seemed happy with their choices.

Anna B.

Yelp
The 40's aged man has really mastered the art of the eye roll. He either needs a raise to make him provide better service or just find a new job. Rude to us and the people in front of us. Ice cream was ok. ** after further investigation it was the owner. If he wants to market this place as one of those "insult the customer" type of establishments, he might as well lean all way in and go for it. Just make sure it's marketed well so people know what they're asking for. Lol

Maddie M.

Yelp
I've ordered ice cream from here almost on a weekly basis through Doordash since moving to Denver. Trust me when I say the dirty cookies and cream milkshake is WORTH IT!!!

Sherry T.

Yelp
Tell me why I just paid $10 for a milkshake called the dirty cookies- which is literally just cookies & cream, nothing special??!! ._. Disappointed *sigh*

Vivian C.

Yelp
So I was somewhat bitter about getting this delivered by Doordash because they took a bunch of detours on the way of delivering ice cream from there and I wasn't sure if ice cream riot's ice cream would be worth the stress of the constant hope of not eating an ice cream puddle by the time it arrived. Turns out it was worth the wait. Got the dirty cookies and cream and it was ridiculously delicious. Slightly mushy from the wait, but it was so dang good that I would even slurp it up as a puddle. I gave some to my boyfriend and he tried to take multiple bites even though he usually despises ice cream! This will definitely be my number one place to visit in person when life goes back to normal! Extremely glad I got a pint so I can eat a teeny bit of it one day at a time to preserve the tastiness the best I can.

Camille L.

Yelp
Ice Cream riot has an amazing tasting coffeee ice cream. My friend tried the strawberry shortcake and it was also very delicious! I can't wait to come back and get more Ice Cream!

Hannah A.

Yelp
Save your money!!! Owner is extremely rude and ruins the ice cream experience. My boyfriend and I asked what flavor he recommended and he said "I don't have one"... what? When we walked out the store we tried to justify with "maybe he just found out that his wife is cheating on him with his best friend" but it looks like his attitude and disrespect is a common theme.

Stevie S.

Yelp
Could not agree more with people about the rude service! Owner has a terrible attitude. I told him I didn't appreciate his attitude after visibly being annoyed with me when I came in to order ice cream (rolling his eyes and putzing around), and he told me that "I'm overthinking it". I told him I didn't want to be served by him and walked out. Do not recommend this place at all, he made the experience awful. Hope karma catches up with him one day! Treat people with kindness.

Jack A.

Yelp
If you want rude service and a total jerk to serve you ice cream go here. We walked in with about ten minutes until close and the guy had such an attitude we ended up walking out. I've heard plenty of bad things from other people about the owner if this place and how rude he can be especially around closing time. Somone that doesn't appreciate his customers doesn't deserve any business at all. There prices are sky high as well.

Marcus M.

Yelp
Long time favorite ice cream spot, but a recent visit has inspired me to leave a review. Bummed to relay that ICR does not offer pretzel cones anymore. My ol' fave of dirty cookies and creme w/ pretzel cone is no more. Sad day :0(

Patrick B.

Yelp
Now Ice Cream Riot is a novel ice cream place, with something I've never really seen before: Pop Tart Ice Cream Sandwiches. I love pop tarts, and I love ice cream - so it can't really go wrong, right? They have an array of pop tarts to choose from along with around 18-24 flavors of ice cream/sorbet to choose from. They also have some pre-made sandwiches and other assorted goodies, but most of the sandwiches I was interested in were all out of stock. I will say there really isn't a good way to eat the sandwich without getting your hands a bit messy. But overall, a nice novelty.

Alexia F.

Yelp
There's really not much to say about this place. I feel like it's highly overrated.. There were like 5 flavors to pick from. The lady behind the counter was not helpful at all. It was a very blah experience.. similar to this review.

Erin S.

Yelp
Hands down best ice cream on this side of town! Little disappointed that we haven't seen the Nutella flavor in a while, however the quality, texture and taste are consistent. Enjoyed the shakes for the first time, it was perfect! They even have the straws to handle the job!

C P.

Yelp
My teens and I were excited about this placed based on a recent review I had seen as well as the company website. Upon arrival, a note was on the door that said they were closed for a break and would be back in 15 minutes. However, the door was unlocked we went in. We were not greeted but some patrons were sitting inside and an employee could be seen in a back room. Who did come out front soon after. The place is dirty. Dirty tables, dirty display glass, dirty, dirty. The iPad used for check out was dirty with splash marks and finger prints. The refrigerator was spilled on and dirty. The ice cream? Meh. I had the Nutella in a cup. It tasted like nothing and the texture was grainy. This place could be great. Buts it's just meh.

Peacock L.

Yelp
Love the ice cream filled cannolis! Very delicious. Very friendly staff, even squeezed two flavors of ice cream in our cannoli. Nice selection of ice cream flavors. No problem parking.

Kevin N.

Yelp
Great place to grab ice cream! It looks a bit hole in the wall, but it's fantastic! They push the boundaries of ice cream flavors and it's very interesting to try. Goldfish is definitely a unique flavor that's worth trying. I was really intrigued by their poptart sandwiches, but they use poptarts from the store (not homemade) if that makes a difference to you. This is a must try place for ice cream even if summer is basically over!

Megan A.

Yelp
This was my last ice cream stop on my visit to Denver and it provided delicious satisfaction for my never ending ice cream habit. There is metered street parking available in front of the shop and nearby. No problem snagging one on a weekday. Upon walking into the shop you'll be overwhelmed with the NUMEROUS framed ice cream photos and art (find your fave celeb!). It seemed like they were doing some remodeling at the time so didn't linger too long. There was no line on an early Tuesday afternoon, so we were helped right away. They do offer samples, my boyfriend and I tried 3-4 total between us, but got the impression from the guy behind the counter it was too much. He made a pained face and abruptly turned when I had asked for the last one... however he was super friendly at the end of our visit so perhaps I misread the situation. In any case, they have a unique selection of flavors. Most unique being their cheddar goldfish - true to flavor and surprisingly tasty. Sampled the White Russian which was also very true, would have gotten a scoop of this one if I was feeling like getting groovy. Ultimately picked two out of the FOUR cereal flavors they had - Crunch Berry and Fruity Pebbles (my favorite cereal of all time). Both tasted like a bowl of milky cereal but the Crunch Berry by far was flavorful, creamy, and divine. It brought me back to childhood in the most wonderful way. Didn't try any of their novelties (cookie, pop tart ice cream sandos etc) so can't comment there but definitely recommend giving them a try!

Shawnte W.

Yelp
ICR was recommend by friends who have visited Denver before. This location specifically was more preferable as the other was near the ballpark and had a lot of traffic. Walking we were greeted by a young lady behind the counter. She was super nice and patient and myself and my two friends asked to sample practically all the flavors they had. I ended up getting the pop tart ice cream sandwich (strawberry pop tarts, dirty oreo and crunch berries ice cream). It was truly a treat! I would not mind returning for another treat when I visit Denver again.

Lisa N.

Yelp
Ice cream. Pop Tarts. Ice cream Pop-Tart sandwiches. *Bomb* Yes- I know, your mind is blown, and your tastebuds will be too, if you visit Ice Cream Riot. Staff is ALWAYS oh-so-Philly-friendly. I'm not totally sure what Jim and his team does to come up with these inventive fun flavors (goldfish ice cream? yes- it's good!) but I can really appreciate each visit I have. They're always super nice on letting me try some samples and decide if I want the dirty oreo or golden oreo, or whatever seasonal goodness is on the menu. Another plus- be sure to check out the super unique cones! They have this crazy double-scoop side-by-side cone, and a pretzel cone, both worth a try. Finally, if you don't walk out with a pint and/or ice cream sandwich, you're possibly gonna kick yourself later. So check out their freezer- sooooo many awesome goodies like ice cream sandwiches rolled in candy. This place is da-bomb-dot-comb goodness!

Kelly V.

Yelp
I visited both locations recently and was treated horrendously by an employee and the owner. I legitimately thought, "Oh, maybe this is the appeal and part of the experience." It's not uncommon for some establishments to market themselves like that -- especially since this place is a *riot*. What are the chances that employees at multiple locations are so outrageously insulting? But lo and behold, that is not the case. They're just really...rude One of the employees was shooing us away and rolling her eyes at us, as if our patronage was a burden. The owner called us names, yelled at us, insulted us under his breath and talked down on us because we've never been there before (we're from out of town). Based on other reviews, it seems like a common occurrence. At least they're mean to everyone and not to just us.
