The 17 Best Ice Cream Spots In London

"There are two Ice Cream Union locations but our favourite is the takeaway one in a business park in Bermondsey. The cornflake and coffee flavour is the breakfast ice cream we want to start every day with. But they also do a delicious, creamy pistachio flavour too—nuts are roasted in-house, turned into a paste, and churned all on the same day. So expect an intense nutty flavour and freshness. They’ve got great vegan options like the blood orange sorbet and coconut chocolate chip." - heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, daisy meager

Ice Cream Union - Review - Bermondsey - London - The Infatuation

"Everything about Ice Cream Union feels very high-end and meticulous, with its bright blue and yellow branding the only thing signalling this isn’t just an empty archway in Bermondsey. Space age-looking drums hold excellent, fresh ice cream, and ingredients are caramelised, pastes made, and coffees roasted in-house—giving this spot something of a laboratory feel. The takeaway place is conveniently positioned at the beginning of the Bermondsey beer mile, if you’re starting from the end furthest from London Bridge. If you didn’t think beer and ice cream went together, you’ve clearly never had a cornflake and coffee-flavoured scoop followed by a pale ale. Breakfast of champions. photo credit: ice cream union" - Sinéad Cranna

Best ice cream in London. Period. The flavours change regularly. And their opening hours sometimes vary (last time they were open until 5 on Saturday and typically I believe it's 2pm, maybe it changes closer to summer) but if you come early you won't be disappointed. The portions are generous. They also sell full buckets you can take home.

Perhaps the best ice cream place I’ve been. Always great and inventive flavours. The staff are also always more than willing to let you work through the flavours allowing you to ponder which one to go for each day. Before going to Ice Cream Union I had never tried the likes of Wasabi Ice Cream, or Cornflakes (which tastes just like the milk at the bottom of the bowl). I have never been disappointed by what they’ve put in my cone.

One of the best ice creams in London! But be careful as this particular spot is their factory, so it is open only on Saturdays during a warmer season

Let me try to be as objective as possible. Taste: 5/5 The ice cream tastes amazing! My personal favorite so far is the passion fruit sorbet, which was so fresh and wonderful. The texture is a bit icy, so it's either in a bigger ice chunk or melting immediately. Nevertheless, great flavour and not too sweet. Experience: 1/5 I have visited them 4 (!!) times, without success. They are closed on Sunday, which was on me, I didn't check. But even after I have checked their opening hours I went two other times to find them closed. When I finally found them open, most of their ice cream was not available. The girl, who served us was really nice and she really tried her best to remember all the ice cream that was NOT available, but honestly it would have been easier to list the handful of flavours that were available. The service was also pretty slow, and it seemed like it was a real struggle to get the ice cream out of the tub and be placed in a cone in a normal shape. I am also baffled as how can they be not open during the times people actually want to get ice cream: weekend and bank holidays, but just in general after working hours in the summer. So, if you are right in the neighbourhood do give them a visit, as their ice cream is great. But currently I would not suggest coming by from further out as chances are you will find them closed.

This place is perfect for a hot summers day! Not busy at all, as it’s quite hidden. The flavours change very often but we had coconut, banana split, peanut butter and choc de leche. I definitely recommend the banana split and coconut! The staff is very helpful and recommended us some good flavours £5 per cup/cone and you can mix flavours.

Do yourself a favour: change your life and your expectations of ice-cream. So many reviews list favourite flavours...but the truth is there isn't one that would disappoint. They're all the best, even the sorbets.

I'm Uruguayan so have high expectations regarding the Dulce de Leche flavour. I loved it. Recommended trying 👌 The service is also super good!

Lovely range of unusual flavours including great vegan ones. Delicious smooth ice cream - friendly staff, and nice and cool inside. Dog-friendly, too.

Yelp
I had a cup with Raspberry, Milk Chocolate and Cornflake flavors. Ice Cream was good, especially Chocolate and Cornflake, but £5 is a bit too high considering that it is not even in a premium location.

Yelp
While the Ice Cream Union seems to be based in Southwark, they do tend to move around, attend events and bring their flavours where they are asked to. Today we spotted them just outside Shakespeare's Globe and considering the sunny weather outside an ice cream was in order. I decided to go for pistachio as it's one of my favourite flavours but unfortunately not one of the most common ones. I was very happy with it as it tasted quite natural and had larger than average crushed pistachio bits mixed in which gave the ice cream texture as well. My colleagues went for vanilla and strawberry and were very happy with their selections too. I will definitely get more if I see them again. I want to try the salted caramel too. While I wouldn't say to go out of your way to find them, definitely get a scoop if you do happen to pass them by.

Yelp
They're having Italian month right now so we got the melon and prosciutto (very fresh and real tasting) and the basil and tomato (packed with herby flavor without being overwhelmingly spicy). Great deal at 2.50 for a small since it was a generous size. Also friendly service, she was happy to give out tastes and talk about the flavors. Note that they seem to move along through the market and are a little of to the side right now.
