The sushi and atmosphere was great and worthy of some photos. But my waiter had a disappointed expression and seemed like he didnt want to deal with me. When I couldnt decide what to drink, he became impatient, did not offer any recomendations and so I chose the cheapest Jpop soda. He did not check my ID. He told me I should get a lyft home if Im drinking. He checked on me often enough but still seemed annoyed when I asked for spicy mayo, and distracted when giving me my check. I suspect it wasnt personal so I gave a decent tip anyways. Something or someone was agitating this employee. Its a red flag and I suspect there may be some tension among the staff. If the staff arent happy the customers arent happy.

Google
Expansive menu selection. However, ramen base was limited to miso, soy, or vegetable (?) The beef and chicken had great flavor. The spicy was really hot but lacked depth of flavor. Great atmosphere would come back to try the sushi.

Google
The food was delicious, though the service was pretty slow. The staff were very polite and nice, but it took us a bit of waiting to order our food, and it took forever to get our check. We couldn’t find our server for almost 20 minutes, and we only got our check when he checked in on us later. The restaurant was not even busy; there were maybe only 3 other parties dining with us. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, not too fun but not too bland, either.

Google
First time!! Very friendly service, the sushi look so vibrant and delicious the Miso soup is out of this world along with the eel avocado and Philly roll. Full of flavor you can taste the freshness service was above and beyond. Looking forward to come back again and sit in the dining room and try other dishes. Thank you so much for a great experience.

Google
Decent place with decent prices. Overall not bad for the price. It’s close to my work so offers convenience. There’s plenty of nearby parking in garages which helps. Service is pretty good and the setting is very casual but comfortable. I usually get the chicken teriyaki bento box which provides a well balanced meal. My wife and daughter had the pork and chicken katsu don (respectively).

Google
Went for Happy Hour and ordered the chicken gyoza and the Hairy Mexican Roll, because of course something named this way had to be sampled! The gyoza were crispy on the outside and deliciously flavored, and the roll was fulfilling. There seemed to be a lot going on with the Hairy Mexican, ingredient-wise, but still very tasty. Outdoor seating available. Plenty of parking around.

Google
A staple in our household - we eat here Atleast once per week. Dine in, take out, bar seating - all fabulous. The staff are friendly but not over bearing. We’ve never gotten a wrong order or missing items. The sushi is fresh and made to order. I’m a big fan of their appetizers and ramen. Lunch specials are worth the hype and happy hour is great after a long workday. We’ve been eating here for 5 years and have no intent on stopping. Please don’t ever change!

My niece took me here for my birthday and my mind was blown. It is in Village atShirlington, one of my favorite little areas. Nice and quaint right outside of D.C. The sushi 🍣 was absolutely amazing. We had the Victoria’s Secret roll, the spider roll and the Ish roll. I could taste every component in every piece. The fish was fresh and of the highest quality. The wasabi was freshly made. The presentation was gorgeous, there was even an orchid flower placed on our plate. I was upset when my stomach betrayed me and I had to stop. It has been a while since I have had really good sushi. We both had full containers of leftovers to take home and the best toasted brown rice green tea that I have ever had (that I immediately ordered on Amazon) and the bill was 60.00. The service was not amazing but not bad. 10/10 highly recommend.

Yelp
In town for a weekend. We had dinner here and were pleased with our sushi, drinks, and the service. If I lived in the area, this restaurant would be on our regular go to place.

Yelp
Disappointed overall about our experience. The food was bland and tasteless. Our Miso soup was cold. Our sweet tea tasted off and my husband ordered a Japanese beer and it tasted like it was expired. While the waiter was friendly it really didn't justify an over 100 bill for four meals.

Yelp
It's been 7 years since my last review of Ichiban Sushi & Ramen, and so an update was in order, though I don't have a lot new to say. The number of good restaurant options in Shirlington has increased dramatically in recent years, yet Ichiban still holds up as among the best and most reliable simple meals in the neighborhood. The miso ramen remains an excellent version of this umami-rich staple, and at Ichiban, the pork miso ramen comes with an unusually generous portion of roasted pork slices. It's a great, warming bowl of goodness, with fresh bok choy and a perfect egg, and is one of the better value meals around here as well. If you'd like to control your own spice level, order it plain with spice on the side. Sushi is of high quality here, too -- just not otherwise notable.

Yelp
I stopped in this spot for lunch and I can't say it was my best experience with ramen in the area. The location is a pretty lowkey, decent size with a small bar and a couple of TV's. I sat at the bar for about 10 mins before actually being brought water or offered a menu which was surprising given the time of day and the fact that there were only 2 only customers aside from staff in the entire restaurant at that time. The menu provides a variety of sushi, sashimi, and maki options ranging from $6-$27 based on the type or combination. They also have fried rice and tempura options priced around $20, as well as ramen options with pork, beef, chicken, etc. ranging from $16-$19. I went with an order of California rolls, shrimp ramen, and the teriyaki chicken. The food came out fairly quickly the California rolls were solid, the shrimp ramen was subpar the broth was good but could have been warmer but the noodles even in the broth were rubbery and undercooked. As for the teriyaki chicken I didn't even get through much of it, the chicken was unseasoned and the teriyaki sauce seemed to have been dried out during the cooking process. On a positive note the server was courteous enough to remove the chicken teriyaki item from the bill given that he noticed I hadn't enjoyed it. Overall a bit of a disappointing experience.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Ichiban. The restaurant is open and there is even a full bar area. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box and a sweet potato roll. The bento box was okay. I think I would have liked a little more teriyaki sauce on the chicken. The gyoza was almost burnt so the taste was a little off. The miso soup was barley warm. I didn't think to send it back but that was a little let down especially since it was the first thing I tried. The sweet potato tempura roll was really good. Maybe I should just stick with the sushi.

Yelp
Got takeout from Ichiban after a journey back from a crazy Memorial Day Weekend. We had some issues ordering online so called them to set up an order. My friend picked up our food and said the pick up was easy. She ordered their spicy ramen with pork belly and was really happy with it. I got their salmon avocado roll and scallop nigiri and found it to be just ok. I enjoyed their seaweed salad. I also got their miso and was left wishing they had more seaweed or some tofu in it. Their packaging for takeout was very efficient and good. Whenever you get takeout ramen there is a chance of it being messy, but they had a good system here. The pricing was also pretty reasonable here. While I mostly enjoyed our meal, I don't think I would go out of my way to get takeout again soon.

Yelp
Love the setup here! Amongst walking in the energy was good! The staff was attentive and making sure we were checked on every minute. The food speaks in volumes! I love the sushi! I had some Philadelphia Rolls and California's.. which were amazing and so fresh. I also busy down some selections of meat they had. The sake was hitting me all over the place. I ordered several of those. I was also able to get a parking validation which was great since I parked in the garage for Giant.

Yelp
I avoided Ichiban for several years since my last experience was not the greatest. I must say, I was impressed with their food and service. I enjoyed the vegetable ramen; the broth was good and the noodles were cooked to perfection. The service was great. I'll definitely be back to try their sushi.

Yelp
Good sushi. Pretty good service. We've had some servers that are less attentive than others, but we still really enjoy the food. They have a good selection of specialty rolls, and I enjoy their seaweed salad.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday evening and they were pretty packed! We didn't have a reservation but were seated right away which was nice. We started with the pork gyoza, perfect temperature, crispy yet soft. Really good! We then ordered a few rolls. Naruto : it was fine- I'd skip this. It was too watery with the cucumber wrap and also dipped in the sauce. Spicy salon : always a solid choice Spicy scallop : nice Super spicy tuna : they weren't kicking. There's a kick to these! Really good though Alvin : really liked this one. crab meat on the top was a nice touch. Ichiban : had to get this since it's named after the restaurant. It was all our favorites too! The reason why I'm giving it a four was due to the service. Like I mentioned it was pretty full, and there were only 2 servers. Our server was running around and never around when we were looking for him. Also new anxiety level unlocked : I never worried about servers who don't write the orders down, because I know a lot of them are solid. BUT this server was already stumbling when he repeated the order before he left. Then he brought our sushi out and it was wrong Will this experience stop us from coming again? Probably not because the sushi was really good.

Yelp
Visited Ichiban on a weeknight evening recently and ate outside. Love that the patio is dog friendly (like most things in Shirlington) and well spaced. We ordered the yellowtail app and I ordered the fatty tuna sashimi. Both were ok. The fatty tuna tasted like it had been flash-defrosted and was still a bit frozen in the middle, the piece also tasted a little too fatty. The menu noted it was at market price but I didn't expect ~$20+ based on the grade of fish. Left a bit disappointed. I'd visit again but would probably stick to rolls on the menu vs trying a specialty item

Yelp
Fun restaurant right next door to the Arlington Shirlington Hilton. Tried the Lotus cocktail and it didn't disappoint. The sushi selection had something for everyone. A+ on the shrimp tempura roll. Lots of seating both indoor and outdoor. Great stop over for an easy lunch or dinner.

Yelp
I really do love this spot I don't go there enough it's a great little restaurant right at the end of Shirlington. Great food good service good drinks it is my go to spot for sushi Food is fresh and good and always a good spot to hit when your tired of the "normal" Keep that up!

Yelp
Very friendly staff, delicious teriyaki and sushi, and nice quick service! Went on a Saturday night and wasn't too busy at all.

Yelp
Ichiban restaurant has become my go-to spot for satisfying my cravings for authentic Japanese cuisine. Conveniently located near my place, it never fails to impress with its generous servings and genuine flavors. The portions are always hearty, ensuring that every visit leaves me feeling fully satisfied. From sushi to ramen, each dish tastes like a delicious slice of Japan. If you're in the mood for real Japanese food that's worth every serving, Ichiban is the place to be!

Yelp
My nephew wanted ramen...so we got ramen! LOTUS FLOWER (me): A creeper...just enough sweet for me. SPRITE (he): "This is so good." PORK BUNS (we, but mostly he): I took two bites and then he snatched it off of my plate. RAMEN w/SEASONED CHICKEN + SPICY MISO (me): The perfect heat for a brisk fall evening. RAMEN w/BEEF & PORK + MISO (he): Nephew enjoyed this. He even mixed a little of my spicy miso in his, which gave it even more flavor. We'll be back! __ I eat. @f.hux I thrift. @DCthriftish

Yelp
I came here on a weekday during happy hour. I parked in the Harris Teeter parking garage since I wasn't here for over an hour. I tried the gyoza and some of their rolls that were on the happy hour. They had fresh sashimi that tasted all fine. However, the scallops were placed on the lemon wedges too long and the acidity of the lemons "cooked" the raw scallop. I really enjoyed the sweet shrimp and how they deep fried the head. They also sell ramen here which I didn't get to try this visit. Maybe a future visit! This is a busy intersection and few street parking available. Overall service was pretty good and fast.

Yelp
The quality of this place has gone off a cliff. The sushi is slightly better than Quickway. Look at the photos and be the judge. Barely any rice and what's there is inconsistent. This place is expensive now, and there should be better attention to detail.

Yelp
Ichiban is an Amazing Va Gem. Both the Sushi and ramen are excellent -They actually use REAL WASABI! Great Food and Service . Bernadette was our server she was so attentive and had proper sushi house service ! A Perfect experience every time .

Yelp
I've been spoiled with phenomenal ramen in the past having had it in Tokyo and also in my hometown of Asheville NC and have pretty high expectations for my Ramen. Unfortunately, Ichiban Sushi & Ramen was a pretty big let down. I ordered the chicken ramen and was caught off guard with the fried chicken breast. I'm not a culinary expert but anything breaded will get soggy once submerged in broth. Not only was the breading soggy but the chicken was overcooked and tough. To make matters worse the ramen noodles reminded me of the ramen I used to eat at 3am back in college. The spicy miso broth was good but wasn't enough to make up for the subpar chicken and ramen.

Yelp
Favorite sushi spot in the DMV. High quality for reasonable prices, quaint vibe and nice service. Definitely recommend if your looking for a chill sushi spot
google avatar

Yelp
Love ordering ramen from here. I always get the spicy miso with no pork and no fish cake. They always give me an extra egg too, which I love. I appreciate that the soy eggs are truly soft boiled and are gooey in the middle. They're always so friendly and follow my crazy instructions when ordering. This is my favorite place to order ramen from.

Yelp
Was in town for a small sushi joint to grab. Found this spot driving by, so decided to swing by and grab something simple. They have nigiri so I decided to order my favorite shrimp, egg. Salmon and clams. I have to say this place is small but the food is 10/10. Service was polite and food was great and fast. I was in town for a convention. I had to bring my colleague for a second round. This place is a must. Their miso soup is great and their service was the best. If your in town, come by and give this spot a try. I will be back for sure!

Yelp
This was my first time here and it was a great experience! The food was so good, and our server was very helpful. We enjoyed some spring rolls as an appetizer and then moved on to dinner. I indulged in the chicken ramen (spicy). It had lots of flavor and was authentically spicy. The chicken was lightly breaded and fried. You can't go wrong here, plus the atmosphere is welcoming and they have a great layout.

Yelp
The location is nice and comfortable. Outside and inside dining. Had the spicy tuna roll and California roll. Both were very well done both in taste and presentation. The food was fresh. I can take or leave sushi but the place looked inviting so I'm glad I gave it a shot. The service was top notch. The sushi came out fast and I did not have to ask for anything as the server was knowledgeable and pleasant. Highly recommend this business for a casual and relaxing atmosphere where the food is fresh and presented well.

Yelp
Great option for sushi in the Shirlington area. I picked this up as a to go order via Uber Eats, and was really satisfied with the order. We get the oyako which includes fresh salmon, smoked salmon, and salmon roe, then the Maki combination B which had spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, and spicy yellowtail roll, and then the quail eggs which I was really pleasantly surprised with how much I liked! We also got the pork katsu don as well which was really good and flavorful, I do wish the egg portion would be served separately as it made the pork a little soggy during the travel time but it was still really delicious.

Carmen M.

Yelp
Great sushi worth your money! Good place to go for a date too. Customer service is great as well.
google avatar

Maggie R.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for ramen, and I highly recommend trying their special saketini as well. Last night I tried the unagi don, Ichiban mojito, takoyaki, and seaweed salad. All were good, but I would stick with the ramen or sushi rolls next time, and possibly try the warm sake. The service is good, and the ambiance is nice with a lit fireplace, though I did notice a draft coming from the front door. Anyway, definitely try this place if you're in the mood for sushi or ramen!
google avatar

Totyana H.

Yelp
Finally got around to trying Ichiban and I definitely enjoyed it. I came in on Friday and it was extremely busy! This seemed like the Friday night spot for dining in and take out. My food took a bit longer than I expected but I didn't mind because a packed place means the food is good!! Both of my sushi rolls were yummy...good quality. The chicken ramen with spicy miso was really good as well, although the spicy miso wasn't that spicy it had really good flavor. Try them out!
google avatar

Tarin H.

Yelp
Pretty decent sushi , the service was fine nothing to fancy to complain about. The sushi was a nice temperature an the spring roll sauce was really good. The spring roll had a nice crunch to it. I will probably be back to get more sushi
google avatar

Jon K.

Yelp
Delicious food. Attentive service. A tad bit pricey but you get what you pay for and it's good here! Comfortable establishment with a good mixture of comfort and style. Bar is pretty small and doesn't give a ton of counter space but perfect for sushi and drinks

Rob W.

Yelp
Excellent sushi and gyoza. Incredibly friendly service. Great outdoor seating. Definitely trying the ramen next time!

S S.

Yelp
I always get the Alvin roll and the consistency is spot on. Tasty food and quick service.

Yelp
The ramen here is good. The sushi is decent. We came on a Saturday and decided to eat outside to enjoy the fresh air. We later regretted this decision because there was more than time that the waiter forgot to come check on our table. From the time we sat down, it took about 10 minutes before someone came to start us on our waters and at one point the waiter even forgot to bring us our beers. The food took quite awhile than normal to get out to us as well and when it came to getting the check, the waiter had pretty much stopped coming to our table to the point we had to tap another waiter to bring us the check. I may come back again because the food wasn't bad, but if it takes that long again to get waited on, I'll continue my search for a better ramen spot.
google avatar

Adrianna R.

Yelp
My friend and I have never been so sick. We ate here and ended up with Sapiovirus from contaminated sushi. I was vomiting for 5 days straight and almost had to go to the hospital because I could not even keep water down and almost had internal bleeding. My friend and I now have persistent heartburn and stomach ulcers as a result of the virus. 3 months later and I'm still seeing doctors as my stomach is now never going to be the same. I used to get take out here all the time and raved about it. One day my friend and I decided to eat at the restaurant and have a cute day. Worst decision of my life. If I could give no stars I would. Sushi was my favorite food, now even glancing at raw fish makes me want to hurl.
google avatar

Joseph S.

Yelp
I came here to eat with a couple of friends and it was my first time. Everything could be summed up in 3 words: less than satisfactory. The wait staff was slow, kitchen was backed up with the restaurant being empty, and the food was mediocre at best. I ordered the tuna tataki and the pork buns for the table. The pork buns were not tender and seemed like the flavor was coming from just the sauce itself. It definitely was not what I expected but probably one of the better things I ate there. The tuna tataki was too sour and the sushi combo was overpriced for nothing special. COVID wise: tables were spread apart and wait staff wore gloves and masks. I probably would not come here again as I did not think it was worth it.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to come here because we've thought this was the same ramen spot we've visited before. After sitting down and looking through the menu, we realized that the items seemed totally different. The waitress kindly let us know that Ichiban "Sushi & Ramen" is not the same restaurant as Ichiban "Ramen & Sushi" lol. So that was a bummer. We were about to leave and head to a new restaurant, but I decided to order something quick & small, since I was super hungry. I went for something simple, the California Roll. It was pretty tasty and arrived quickly. Unfortunately their ramen options were not what we were looking for. They're sushi menu had lots of options, so maybe we will try it in the future when we're both in the mood for sushi. The waitress was very nice and helpful during our short visit.

Yelp
This restaurant is a go to sushi spot for me. They have a menu with tons of variety and include many vegetarian options for those that have dietary restrictions. Their menu also incorporates a variety of chef specialty rolls and the prices will not break the bank. The high quality food and a relaxing ambiance give this location an edge over other sushi spots. Highly recommend Ichiban for date nights or anytime you're going out for dinner! See the ratings breakdown below: Ambiance: 4.6/5 - lights were dim and you can hear yourself talk in the restaurant even though there were plenty of people there for a Tuesday night. Price: 4.8/5 - Reasonably priced sushi. The most expensive roll that I ate was a chef specialty roll called the Chicago Bull which was $16.95 but included pieces of steak on top of the sushi. A unique twist and one that was worth it in my opinion. Food: 5/5 - Aside from the specialty roll their classic rolls were also great. I had the spicy crunchy tuna roll and evergreen (great vegetarian choice) with the spicy mayo dipping sauce. Highly recommend their sushi! Service: 5/5 - Waitress was very friendly and she even let us stay for a while longer even after we paid for the bill. This restaurant never fails to impress me.

Yelp
Only rating 4 stars because I ordered take out. I reviewed the menu and had to google a few things because I'm not very familiar with different types of sushi. I tried a variety of things like the spicy tuna rolls, hairy Mexican rolls, and the I.H.T (I think that's what it is called). In total I had around 24 rolls all to myself and I enjoyed every bit of it. I will be returning soon to try the ramen and a few other sushi options. Worth a visit for a fair price. ** the decor is also very warm and inviting!
google avatar

Yelp
Sashimi was good but the hand roll was not. The patio was nice, presentation and ambiance, and service was good.
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
The sushi was excellent, but the ramen was so-so. The broth wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped (and I LOVE a good bowl of ramen), and the spicy miso isn't spicy at all my by standards. The noodles were also a bit more al dente then I expected, which I've never really had before in a ramen bowl, though I happen to love my noodles al dente. The serving sizes are generous, and the staff are great.

Yelp
We came to this restaurant for Mother's Day dinner and I must say it was a great experience. The place is much larger inside than it appears from the outside and it has a nice modern vibe to it. We started off with the gyoza (pan fried dumplings) an they were amazing. The miso soup that came out before the meal was great as well. I had the chicken teriyaki and believe it was the best I have had in the D.C area. Although I didn't try any, another person in our group said the beef teriyaki was incredible. I heard rave reviews about the ramen bowls as well as the crunchy spicy shrimp rolls. Literally every dish that I saw looked delicious and we all agreed that we had to come back soon. The prices are very reasonable and the service was top notch too. If you are in Shirlington, please give this place a try!

Adam J.

Yelp
Food quality wasn't very good. Found a piece of plastic wrapped inside one of my rolls. Almost as if the roll was premade and saved for later. This was a learning experience and will be ordering else where.

Barb P.

Yelp
I agree with other reviewers (recent), the quality has gone down or 'off a cliff' to quote. I ordered 3 age tofu and a salmon love role. The age tofu arrived with NO sauce. The cup of sauce in each portion is what makes it delicious. Without it, you're just getting fried tofu. One packet of soy sauce was there, but that was for the love roll which was ok but not worth the expense. I immediately called and was told to call DoorDash. I pointed out that DoorDash didn't have anything to do with packing the order, but had no other option -- except I could drive over to pick up the correct sauce for the 3 orders. I doubt that I will order again from this restaurant. What a shame, I enjoyed it for several years.

Yelp
Really solid sushi spot. Takeout was pretty busy on an early evening on a Thursday! This is def a locals favorites spot. I enjoyed two of the sushi rolls I tried a lot - the yami yami roll and the alvin roll. Both were so good and fresh. The volcano roll something tasted a tad off and it wasn't as good. However I would be back and try more!

Yelp
This is the most dishonest organization. I ordered food they told me it was going to be 45 minutes. I left because it was going to be 45 minutes and decided I could not wait 45 minutes, so I called to cancel my order at first the lady was going to cancel my order and then she found out that I pay directly to them and not a third-party. When she found out that I paid directly to them, all of a sudden my order was ready and she could not cancel it by this time I was halfway home, the order was not ready. She was about to cancel it until she found out that I had already paid. They would not offer me a refund. I will never eat at this organization again!

Yelp
The food sushi and ramen came out less than two minutes after we ordered which made us feel like it was premade. The breaded chicken had no flavor in the ramen and it was hard to find our server.
google avatar

Yelp
It is not the best Japanese style restaurant I have ever tried. Just an ok place. The food gets only 3 stars out of 5. The service was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Actually a good place. Food here is all delicious. We came with a group of people and we kicked out plates clean by the time we left. We all enjoyed our food and experience. We all had a little bit of everything; katsu, sushi, and ramen. This place is great for small or large groups, for dates, or friends and family. Check it out! Till then, let's eat!!!

Yelp
A great reliable delivery sushi spot. I've ordered a few times and each time has been spot on. I'm a big fan of chef special rolls, which can run upwards of $20 each and be hit or miss. Ichiban's are affordable and while I can't say they're the best rolls I've ever had, they're great for the price and very decent quality.
