Sobashubo Ichii

"The marquee dishes here are hand-made soba and duck preparations. Seiro makes sparing use of filler to bring out the suppleness and flavour of the noodles. Osaka Kawachi ducks are used, a good fit for the dipping sauce thanks to their tender flesh and sweet fat. When you savour the kamo nanban or duck seiro, you can taste the affinity between soba and duck. In the evening, imaginative duck creations are on offer, not to mention soba sushi of chicken breast and daikon radish, or Japanese ajillo of gizzard and mushrooms." - Michelin Inspector

I stayed in Kyoto for 5 nights and had dinner here 3 times. The place is so nice and the food is great. Soba is freshly hand made by them and it tastes amazing. The staff is also super friendly. I really felt at home there. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough.

The best soba I had in Japan. Very hospitable service and great atmosphere. We were seated at the 2nd floor with tatami style dining. The duck sashimi is definitely worth a try too.

Jun 2024. My guide brought us to a Michelin accoladed restaurant. I thought the price was reasonable for this highly sought-after restaurant. When there was a queue of local patrons, it wouldn't go wrong. We ordered its specialty kamo (duck) soba. The (soba) Buckwheat tea had to be mentioned, it was nutty and bold, it was especially refreshing when it was cold. Let's see what would surprise me. The duck meat was delicious, it had the beef taste which was very different from those I ate in my part of the world.

My family and I enjoyed the meal. First time trying duck sashimi and it tasted amazing! Loved their grilled duck and assorted tempura to go with the soba, ingredients are absolutely fresh. Had the limited soba tea brûlée to complete our perfect lunch. Will highly recommend!

Very beautiful place for eating lunch. We got a table upstairs. We sat in the traditional tatami and served us water with sesame flavor. We took the soba with the tempura. It is by far the best tempura I have had. Highly recommended. The soba dip in the sauce is the tradicional way of eating it. Such an authentic experience! I have rated 4 stars in service because the food took around 40 min to arrive to the table. We had to queue a bit, but that was no problem. It’s totally worth it.

The best meal I’ve had in Japan, and I’ve been here for 2 weeks! Highly recommend the cold soba noodles with duck, the flavor is out of this world. I arrived just after opening time at lunch and was seated at the bar by the open kitchen within 10 mins. The staff were friendly and helpful, explaining the proper way to eat soba and guiding me through the various condiments and dipping sauces. The other guests were Japanese, I was the only gaikokujin, but I felt welcomed. I’ll remember this meal fondly for many years.

Since no one uploaded any English menu, I thought I should be the one to do it since this place is so good. It specializes in duck soba, so we tried that plus the duck sashimi. However, we were sitting right in front of where they made tempura, so I had to order some. 10/10 for the food, no wonder they are on the Michelin guide. Note that the English menu does not have the full listing, so if you can Google translate some of the other items, I suggest you do it prior to getting in, since you’ll likely have to wait a really long time anyways. This place has a really long wait time, so expect a queue. But don’t let it bother you cause the food was truly worth it.
