Best Restaurants in Philadelphia’s Historic District | Eater Philly

"The macarons are tasty but it’s ICI’s other inventive pastries that have diners coming back again and again. Don’t leave with fewer than three selections, such as a goat cheese everything croissant, a brie crioche (a croissant-brioche hybrid), and a kouign amann with lemon curd and cream cheese." - Diana Lu

Kind and courteous employees. They let us use the restroom and gave us free water. I bought an iced tea and it was great as well. The place is clean and cozy. Not overcrowded and everything is decently priced. They even gave us directions. Would recommend!

Google
Newly open location located in the Old City/Society Hill area, they provide outdoor seating space as well, cute café with colorful macarons, I like the lavender and lemon pairing, it’s both delicious and aesthetically pleasing. Maybe next time I would try the lavender lemonade as well(which seems to be quite popular at the location).

Wondering Philly’s streets at a hot summer day stopped by to this nice and clean place. I got iced tea (they brew it and then chill) with a Brie Cheese and Bacon Crioche and tried Earl Grey macaron. Crioche was buttery, crispy and so fresh! Yammy! Macaron was fresh! of a perfect shape, as well as layers ratio, crispy but moist inside shell and reach earl grey filling! Delicious!

I happened to be in Old City and was looking for a cafe open around 5pm. Most had already closed and ICI Macarons & Cafe was still open. While there I noticed the large display of macarons, but they also had pastries. More interested in the pastries I asked the barista about which pastries she recommended. She suggested the ABC if you like sweet croissants. It’s almond, banana chocolate croissant. In addition, to the pastry I ordered I got the passion fruit green tea. Both of the items I ordered were delicious. The passion fruit green tea balanced both flavors so neither was overpowering. My one gripe with the ABC was not warming it up. Other than that, the banana and chocolate worked really nicely. The almonds were there for texture and they didn’t add much flavor. I want to go back at an earlier time to try the rest of pastries.

Google
Oh my, delicious French macaroons and the croissant muffins were superb too. Sells Vibrant Roaster coffee which is a great local roaster. People behind the counter were super helpful and friendly. One drawback there was no indoor seating, so if it’s not warm enough to sit at the outside tables, then you have to take it away and find some other place to sit and eat.

Google
That ube mochi croissant is easily the best croissant I've ever had (in Philly, on the east coast, in Europe, whatever), and I cannot wait till their new location opens in the fall! Also, I'm just in love with coffeeshops that offer espresso tonics; one of favorite iced beverages ☺

Google
Delicious macarons and their lavender lemonade was lovely. They also had whole bean coffee available for sale.

Google
Love this quiet cafe with friendly staff. It’s a chill environment for small talk and a book, but also the best pastries I’ve had in Philly, comparable to the big name bakeries in NYC. The macarons are also very well done, with flavours that delights the soul. There’s nothing bad about this cafe to comment on. Note how they even wrapped the cruffin in a beautiful way to ensure it doesn’t topple in the paper bag and looks beautiful when you take it out. It is pretty pricey for pastries if you are not used to paying for good quality pastries but worth every penny. 5/5 on all aspects.

Yelp
The pastries are amazing - kouign amans and croissants. Customer service excellent! Can't wait to return (not from the area).

Yelp
The staff was friendly and patient as me and others decided which macarons we wanted. There were so many options! I ended up with: earl gray, cassis & fig, yuzu, lemon lavender The earl gray had a strong satisfying flavor. Crumbly texture shell. The yuzu filling made it a bit chewy when biting into the macaron. Lighter flavor for this one. My favorite was the pistachio madeleine. It was off and airy. Nice flavor. Made me want to go back for more. My least favorite was the Matcha cruffin. Although there was a lot of matcha flavor in the filling, it felt and tasted tooooo buttery . I felt sick eating it. I even scraped out some of the filling so that I could finish it. Not because it was too much filling but because it just had that feeling and taste as if you were eating a stick of butter.

Yelp
Service was pleasant and timely but of the 8 macaroons we tried: 2 were as expected with deep flavors and perfect texture (raspberry and lemon) 4 were middling with either a lack of flavor or wrong flavors (we literally had to guess which ones were which in 2 cases). 1 was overrun by one flavor (cassis/fig) tasted like an airy "fig newton" and 1 (the salted caramel) was truly awful with so much salt we threw it away. We were so very disappointed in the experience having had macarons all over the States and Europe. Philly can do better.

Yelp
The pastries? Divine. The macaroons? Perfect. The coffee? Wonderful. The best dirty chai I've had! So glad this spot reopened! Their later in the day hours are also nice for those of us who need an afternoon pick me up. Seating is limited, but there's a nice park around the corner that is nice to hang out in after picking up your coffee and pastries.
google avatar

Tammy C.

Yelp
I love their selection of pastries! They have unique flavors and a wide variety of croissants. They sell out quick so you gotta go early to get the popular ones. Also there are mannyyy macarons for sale as well. Only downside was that there is very limited seating.

Yelp
Greatly enjoyed the delicious croissant and cruffin we got at ICI Macarons & Cafe. Needed a lil'pick-me-up, and these treats hit the spot. The cafe itself is small, but bright, and service was prompt and pleasant, though it was bustling on a cold and rainy afternoon.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this bakery after visiting Betsy Ross house and so glad we did! One of the Best bakeries we have been so far! The chocolate croissant was buttery and crispy on the outside but moist and chocolaty in the inside. My egg tart was also so delicious. We ordered other items from the bakery and everything was worth the calories. How is wish we live in Philadelphia so we can keep going back to this bakery. Even their coffee was sooo tasty. The service was pleasant as well. They were very friendly and told us that all the pastries were baked in house. The bakery smelled so delicious even from our parking outside. The vibe of the bakery was relaxing. Can't wait til we can go back to this bakery.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite place for macarons in the city. There are so many different flavors to choose from, and each texture is unique yet perfect. You get that nice crunch with the gooey center that i love. They sell other cafe items as well. I have only tried a few of them, including the lavender lemonade and I have never been disappointed. The only thing I will say is that it's pretty small, so there isn't a lot of space to sit down, do work, and enjoy your treats. However, it is perfect to pick up if you're in the area. Lastly, the packaging is super cute, so it would be very romantic as a little Valentine's Day gift paired with flowers like in my photo (:

Yelp
I got two macarons (Lychee Rose and Honey Lavender). They were delicious-- I love how flavorful they were. I was able to taste the rose and lavender from each flavor which is what I was looking forward to. Mmm, yum. I also got the matcha cruffin which looked amazing, but sadly I left it in my car for 2 day because I thought I lost it xD By the time I found and got to try it, it was pretty hard... This was my fault though. I will get it again to try it next time. Also want to note that the service was great. I ordered a large Honey Lavender Latte, but the person misheard and inputted a medium. I asked them about if I can get the large still if I pay the difference, and they told me that it was fine. That was so sweet :') It tasted really good as well. I love the lavender flavor of my drink. Only negative is I wish they had more seats in the store for people to dine in, but it was a pretty small store.

Yelp
Showed up to try this place and there are literally no signs of life. Nothing in Yelp or on their website to indicate a problem, although Google does say that it is temporarily closed. From the looks of things, I would say that it's more than temporary. Do yourself a favor and go a few blocks to J'aime bakery to quiet the croissant gods. #VeryDisappointed

Yelp
Wow! Is it wrong for me to say that this was my best meal in Philadelphia? Came here with my daughter on Sunday morning and we had Kouign-amman's and coffee. I had chocolate, she had lemon. They were amazing. I mean, really amazing. We bought a box of macaroons for a party. I'm not really a macaroon fan but I had a few and they're delicious. Great little place with a friendly staff. This is definitely a place to try if you're in the Old City area.

Yelp
FOOD Ever since I had my first kouign amann back over at B Patisserie on the West coast, I have been on the hunt for a good one on the East coast since. I've tried buttery ones up in Montréal by the classic slice, but nothing could compare to what I had that first time. Until now. So when I found out ICI had kouign amanns, I just had to check it out. And it was worth it. I ordered the classic KA, and every bite into it is just buttery, sugary, flaky heaven. The outside is caramelized to perfection and the sugary center is a treat to reach. It's definitely a guilty pleasure and a dangerously good one at that. I also ordered the coffee mocha cruffin. It has the wow factor and was a good treat, but I wouldn't say I'd prioritize it over ordering the KA's. It had a sugary crust, flaky interior, and mocha cream center, and it's best eaten when shared. I have yet to try their specialty KA flavors, macarons, and drinks, but I look forward to next time! DRINKS There is an extensive coffee menu, and their lavender lattes are quite popular based on how often I heard it ordered while in line. SERVICE I came on a Sunday morning around 9:30 to a short line, and even by then, I could tell many of the goods were depleting fast. The place is mostly grab-and-go, though they have some small tables outside. The staff are kind and really do get the line moving. PARKING Limited street parking is available in front of the store and the surrounding area that is shared by neighboring establishments. The Betsy Ross House stands across from the bakery, making it quite a busy place to visit.

Yelp
8/15/23 update: tried the macarons and they got glowing reviews from everyone who tried them. They were so good with just the right amount of sweetness and tartness for the more citrusy flavors. Very much enjoyed the ones I had. Usually macarons can just be overly sweet with not much else going on but you could definitely taste the unique flavors of each of these macarons. Definitely will be back to try ones I didn't get to have! I forget her name but the sales associate that helped me was super kind and patient with me as I had to choose from their amazing selection of flavors for macarons. Honestly, really unique flavors that I don't see often anywhere else, with a lot of asian fruit inspired ones! We love some good rep. They also had a good selection of more "regular" flavors too if you're not feeling adventurous. Bought these for a family gathering so haven't tried them yet, but judging from the smell, they're gonna be sooooo good. They're also sO pretty, and she helped package them up so nicely for me some of them got cracked, but that was my fault trecking 20 minutes back to my apartment. Overall, definitely gonna be a place I come back to. Service was great and I'm sure their other products are just as good as their macarons.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this yesterday and thought It was quaint and cute so had to stop in. We got a hot chocolate and peppermint green tea which were both tasty. The green tea was definitely strong which I prefer. The hot chocolate tasted so rich and the whipped cream was the perfect addition. I also got a ham and cheese croissant which was tasty. Wish I had told the girl to heat It up, but It was good regardless. Service was fast and easy.

Yelp
The best croissants and macaroons in the city! Amazing coffee and exceptional hospitality
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
This place is amazing. I highly recommend the cheesesteak mushroom croissant and their kouign amanns. You can also ask them to heat up the mushroom cheesesteak a bit, but the kouign amann should be enjoyed at room temperature to preserve the crunchy sugar crust at the bottom. I've also had most of their macarons and the fruit ones are amazing like hibiscus sour Cherry, raspberry marshmallow, passion fruit, etc. They deserve all the flowers for their hard work. I talked to the owners and they have such a passion for baking. The crazy thing is, they learned everything through YouTube! I initially thought this was a side project because they only opened 3 days a week, but I found out it's because they used the other 4 days for prep. Also, they import the butter from France where the cows eat croissant and smoke cigarettes for breakfast and look down on tourists who don't speak French so you know it's authentic.

Yelp
One of my go-to spots for chai lattes and pastries! I highly recommend making a stop here the next time you're in Old City. Atmosphere: the store is really well lit and has a clean atmosphere. It's meant to be more of a grab on-the-go spot, but there is seating for 4 inside and has a couple of tables outside too. The servers are very friendly! Food: I really enjoy the chai lattes and have tried their cruffins and Kouign-Amman - both taste incredible and are crisp / flakey! I have not tried their macarons yet but that's next on my list! Overall: 5/5 - delicious lattes and pastries! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
So glad this place has opened again! The macarons are amazing, croissants are flaky and buttery and my personal favorite is the pb and jelly croissant is awesome!!!!!

Yelp
ICI Macarons & Cafe is open Friday-Sunday At around 11AM they were already sold out of the Brie Croiche and Cinnamon Kouign Amann. Luckily, there are many options- Croissants, Cruffin, Kouign Amann, Macarons, Croiche, and an extensive coffee menu I tried the Matcha Green Tea Cruffin, filled with matcha cream and topped with sugar. I also tried a classic Kouign Amann that was buttered, flaky, and baked to perfection. The Mushroom Cheesesteak (oyster mushroom) and Brie wrapped in phyllo pastry is heavenly. I'm already dreaming about the next visit for Macarons, Almond Croissants, and coffee!!!
google avatar

Tejaswi M.

Yelp
Incredible variety of macarons and pastries. Unique flavors like yuzu, milk and honey, lavender, salted caramel, and dulce de leche among others. Hazelnut chocolate crioche was soooo good!!! The owner is so friendly and attentive. The place looks so cozy and warm!
google avatar

Charles T.

Yelp
I don't have much to say but I will say that the man working the day I was here was very friendly and that the macarons were fantastic. Took them to go and drove back to the Poconos before even sampling and they were simply incredible. Had a sampler of 8 different ones and I'd get each one again (although the pistachio was my favorite), hard not to give this place 5 stars. I got a little artsy with their photos too haha

Yelp
Any time I see a cafe with lavender lattes - I know it's going to be a good spot. I came here with some friends and we got some pastries as well. The cafe is small, so there's only stand up seating inside. Luckily the weather was great and they had 2 tables outside. I ordered the honey lavender latte with the Almond Banana Chocolate Croissant (highly recommended by the staff member). Everything was phenomenal (croissant was SO fresh) and I really wish I got some macarons to go but there was a decent size line. Next time!
google avatar

Reena D.

Yelp
These macarons are incredible. I am so glad someone recommended them because the sign is so subtle that I would have missed it on my own. I only tried 5 flavors but they were all really good. My favorite was the cassis and fig with salted caramel as a close second. The citrus ones give a nice, fresh pop for the season. The iced beverages were good too and much needed in the heat. Definitely recommend and will return to try more flavors and other items.
google avatar

Cherie C.

Yelp
Excellent pastries and macarons. Macaron fillings have an intense fruit filling that is way better than other macarons I've had. Get there early and snag a spot in line. The butter croissant is a decadent pleasure itself, but the filled ones are good too. Totally worth the wait and the spendy price.
google avatar

Julie K.

Yelp
The hazelnut macaron just tasted like chocolate. The french lavender was really good. My friend ate the dulce de leche & coffee macarons and said they were good. I'll trust her word on that.

Yelp
ICI is incredible! If you're looking for impeccable, consistently-executed pastries and macaron options, this is the spot for you! Despite living in the neighborhood, we often missed out on their pastries because they sell out so quickly and/or their hours never worked for us, so it took a long time to finally try ICI. I'm glad we finally made it, though, because we've yet to have anything bad. Sure, macaron flavors (and they have a lot!) can be hit or miss depending on your tastes, but the textures are flawless every time, and they're absolute masters of the puff pastry! They're serving up croissants in various forms, from cruffins and round tarts to traditional rolls. Always perfect, flaky, and wonderfully-buttery. I'm a huge fan of their kouign amann, as well! Try their croissant tarts for something amazing. I recommend the pecan and/or lemon meringue as a starting point. On top of great pastry, their staff is so friendly and excited about their product. There's a passion there that shines through in both the perfection of their pastries and positive attitude of their staff. We have some great bakeries in Old City, but ICI is definitely tops on consistency. I'm really looking forward to the day when we can pop in and enjoy a pastry and coffee at a table, but until then, I'll just be thrilled to have them in the neighborhood and see them still going strong throughout the pandemic! Get there early and enjoy!

Yelp
Great macaroons with large variety of flavors, great pastries, great coffee and great people.
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
SO so good. I came around noon so unfortunately, they were out of a lot of pastries I wanted to try (like the cheesesteak croissant and the goat cheese croiche). Next time I'll definitely have to come earlier. I ended up picking the boston cream cruffin and it was delightful. The vanilla pudding custard was light and creamy. The layers were oh so flaky and buttery. It was honestly even better than I hoped for. Would love to come back and try out the rest of the menu!
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
Exorbitantly overpriced but well-executed pastry. My mind wasn't blown, but the quality of the crumb was high..and the balance of sweetness and butter was intelligent.
google avatar

Aeji K.

Yelp
My friends got me a box of macaroons for my birthday! I'm not sure what each flavor is but every one I've tried taste amazing! I really like that the outer cookie is crispy and the inner filing perfectly smooth. I feel like macaroons can get really sweet but these are so tasty. The pistachio one in particular was savory and just enough sugar. I tried a lavender flavor with lemon and it was delicious! I felt like I was eating a flower! I am definitely going to save them to have with my coffees in the afternoon as a sugar pick me up. I would go back and purchase another box for special events and personal enjoyment! 10/10!!
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
I was for some reason not giving the macarons enough praise before. No, these are some of the best macarons in the world (texturally, flavor, and they're not stupid sweet like so many lesser bakers peddle). I'm reminded every time I get a macaron or croissant anywhere else how good we have it that ICI is nearby. If I had to choose a few favorites: dark chocolate, matcha, raspberry, cassis & fig, orange blossom, earl grey, yuzu
google avatar

Megha D.

Yelp
I visited Philly for the weekend and stumbled on this place looking for breakfast before our walking tour that started at the Betsy Ross House right across the street. There was a short line and it's a to-go place only but there's a few small tables outside we sat at. I ordered the Apple Kouign Amann and a hot chocolate. Both came out super fast and the Kouign Amann was SO GOOD. I had never had one before but it is essentially a croissant with a sugared crust and mine was filled with caramel apples. Super flaky and perfectly sweet, it definitely hit the spot for breakfast! The other pastries looked great and would definitely recommend to anyone in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Good service, not much seating, but overall quality croissants and coffee/espresso beverages.

Yelp
Stopped by for some macarons but really want to return to try the kouign ammans. The macarons were perfect and I loved the variety. A must-visit if you are in Old City.

Yelp
If you haven't checked out ICI, you are DEFINITELY missing out. I'm from Jersey and I am a loyal customer here. I come here about every two weeks to get my FAVE pastries. Seriously every single pastry at ICI is made to perfection. Pastries are range from $3-$6. Each pastry perfectly masters the flavor and texture and crunch. They are not overly sweet, so I can literally eat 3 pastries and 3 macarons in one sitting! What I've tried: 1. 8 pack macarons - their macarons are the best I've ever had. I usually leave them in the fridge for couple hours. You get more gooey texture and the flavors really pop! 2. Cruffins - I've had Boston crème, Mocha, and Matcha. Out of the three, the Boston crème is the most neutral. Matcha is pretty strong (I love matcha so this is a delight for me). Mocha is really good too! The cruffins are a MUST though. They do well out quick! 3. Pecan croissant tart - the outside layer is crunchy, the inside is soft and slightly moist. The pecan tart at the top is SOO good as well. It's caramelized pecans with a hint of cinnamon. It honestly taste like a bougie cinnamon bun. 4. Chocolate Kouign Amann - do you like chocolate pastries? If you do, this is it. By the time I got to ICI to pick up my order at 10am today, there was only one left. After I tried it, I knew exactly why. Just get it because you won't regret it. Enough said. 5. Butter croissant - the most buttery crunchy perfect croissant. Eat it by itself or make a breakfast sandwich with it. Please note: They're only opened on the weekends - Friday - Sunday. You can order online, and I recommend this because by 10-11 am, some pastries are already sold out! Online order stops at 8am for pickup orders that day.

Yelp
an updated review: Just letting everyone know that amidst the hardships of COVID, ICI is standing strong and SO consistent with their amazing macaroons! I've stopped by like a million times the past week and today to pick up these beautiful little gems! chewy, sweet, and so fragile, these macaroons are literally the best in the whole city. my favorite is earl grey! i also love fig, milk and honey, and chocolate, but i always make sure to pack at least 3 earl greys each time. fabulous!

Nova P.

Yelp
Hands down the best pastries I've ever had. I don't know how they do it but they are amazing! The mushroom cheesecake is light and gooey and the cruffins are insanely delicious. Great family owned business!

Yelp
This is my go-to macaroon place in Philly. I would stay not only go for their macaroon, but also for their croissants, cuffins (basically all their pastries)! Highly recommend this place MORE THAN ONCE if you're in philly!!! However, the only downside about this place is that they only open 3 days/week...So definitely plan your visit ahead of time! All their bakery items were not too sweet but perfectly sweeten to satisfy your sweet tooth desire! We ordered 6 different macaroons flavors: - Rose lychee (must try if you like lychee) - Raspberry marshmallow (must try if you like raspberry) - Passion fruit (must try if you like sour/tangy taste) - Pistachio (couldn't taste strong pistachio flavor) - Lemon lavender (a little bit tangy taste with lavender aroma!) - Earl grey (must try if you like black tea flavor & tasted almost like chocolate!) We also tried their new pastry item "Brownie chocolate croissant, and it was amazing! Everything was chocolate but was not too sweet & rich in chocolate flavor. Last but not least, "Matcha Green Tea Cruffin" was another highly suggested pastry to try! The cream inside the pastry was perfectly sweeten & not too thick consistency, which made this cruffin so delicious. For the drink, we got the "Lavender Lemonade" without ice. It was too strong lemon (sour) taste without ice, but still highly recommend to try this drink if you're like me who love lemon flavor & lavender aroma!

Yelp
There are so many varieties of macarons you see upon entering. Some flavors tasted a little bit stale but some are fresh. The good ones have good texture and good amount of fillings. Decent size. The pastries are by the register. All of them look very inviting. They have innovative croissants such as peanut butter and jelly. Lots of peanut butter. I tasted the jelly at my last bites. Kouign Aman: apple pie is filled with sweet small dices of sweetened apple. It's like eating apple pie. THe lemon cream cheese KA is ok. I didn't taste the lemon curd until the last bites. Nutella pudding crioche has lots of fillings but I didn't taste the signature Nutella flavor. All of the croissants have great crunchy exterior. Cruffins are ok, not much cream fillings.

Yelp
Very cute macaron shop near center city. They have a bunch of flavors displayed on their window and then you can order when you get to the front. There was a tiny line when I went on a weekday. Macarons were $2.50 for one so I got 6! The flavors I got were earl grey, pistachio, cookies and cream, almond praline, rose lychee, and honey lavender. I enjoyed all of the macarons! They also have pastries here and cruffins! My favorite macaron was probably the earl grey flavor one! It was nice to be able to see all the flavors on the display and pick out a bunch of flavors!

Yelp
Finally made it to this cute French-inspired bakery in Olde City. The young man behind the counter provided excellent service and patiently answered all of our first-timer questions. We didn't try the coffee concoctions, but the baked goods were pretty good. We sampled: various macarons, almond/banana/chocolate croissant and the plain and apple kouign amann (puff pastry butter cake). The croissant and kouign amann were as delicious as they looked--flaky, buttery, crispity outside and pillowy interior (forgot to take a photo before going in). We agreed that the banana in the croissant was a little too sweet (maybe from overripe banana), but the dark chocolate was perfect. The macarons, while very good, were not the same as you might get in France. The thickness of the exterior and filling was perfect, however, the shell did not deliver that crispy bite that just makes a French macaron the perfect treat. They do have a wide variety of flavors. The $1.25 per macaron will cost you a bit less when you purchase a certain number (7 or 8, can't remember), and even less when you buy a large amount (40? I think)

Yelp
While walking around exploring my new surroundings for work, I came across with my friend ICI Macarons & Cafe. Since my daughter is infatuated with macarons, I had to stop and check it out. You enter a wonderful dark wood room with a center display cabinet completely filled with so many flavors of macarons! A couple of dozen flavors are all stacked on edge next to each other in perfect formation like a marching band or Army soldiers awaiting orders to be packed and enjoyed by the customers. Staff said that they are all homemade in the basement of the building each day. I decided to go with a dozen, and it was hard to choose what flavors to purchase. After making one round throughout the whole cabinet, I had to go back for round two and ended up with some repeats. When I got home with the macarons, it turned out that my kid already knew about ICI because when she wanted some and my wife did some research, this is where she ended up for the best macarons! Now, my wife knows that I am walking distance from ICI and my wallet will be a bit lighter. The flavors from the regular to the interesting were all extremely good. I loved the intensity of the honey/lavender. A great dessert. A dozen set me back just about $30. They are slightly discounted if you buy more than eight, I think. Don't forget about tax. Definitely worth the walk!

This cafe is so cute! There is some outdoor seating but no indoor seating. They have a wide selection of macrons and pastries which all look and taste delicious! The staff are super friendly and willing to help and the shop is minimalistic yet elegant, definitely fits the appearance of a French bakery. Overall wonderful macrons, about $2.50 each which is average but their macrons are slightly larger than other shops I've been to.

Yelp
I live clear across the city and have come here exclusively for their cruffins (which they only serve on the weekend). Everything is made fresh - so if they sell out, they're out! I've come at 10 am and they've been completely out before, other times I've come at 5pm and been lucky! It's just the luck of the draw. My two favorites are the matcha and the coffee. I've yet to try the coconut since that matcha has my heart. I haven't actually tried their macaroons only because I stuff my face on cruffins. But I will definitely be back! It's not cheap - but it's worth the cost imo.

Yelp
Amazing bakery and our must stop for us if we are in the area! Our go to is the Boston cream cruffin, kougin amann and macaroons of course (rose lychee being one of our favorites).

Yelp
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE BEST CROISSANTS IN PHILLY, THIS PLACE IS IT. (GO EARLY IN THE MORNING- BEFORE 10 AM!) Absolutely a gem in Old City, this place has arguably the best croissant and croissant-like pastries. I highly recommend their ABC croissant because it simply well executed! Its layers are crunchy on the outside, fluffy and airy on the inside. The banana filling with a layer of chocolate is the perfect amount addition of sweetness to this pastry. The toasted almonds on top add such a wonderful crunch to each bite! They also have fantastic macarons! Freshly made, with various fun and exciting flavors, you really can't go wrong with any flavor you choose.  Overall this is one of my favorite places in Philly for pastries- especially croissants! I do have to note that this place is currently ONLY open on the weekends (Friday-Sunday). Must go early in the morning since they sell out really really quickly!

Yelp
You know a place is great when all you can think of to say is "these are the best French macarons I've ever had outside of France." They feature over two dozen flavors, half of which are so unique I've never seen any other bakery have them, like Rose Lychee or Cassis and Fig. They look beautiful (colorful and uniformly sized) and the texture is always right and consistent. They are not cheap, but I've had to pay about the same or more for uglier/less tasty macarons in Philly and elsewhere. The ambiance is laid back, service is friendly and helpful, and I've never had any issues finding a seat in the back area with the tables and cute lighting. Their coffees and teas are very good, and they also sell other types of pastries such as croissants, cruffins, and kouign amann. This bakery/cafe is the top reason why I love Old City.

Yelp
These are pretty good. HUGE variety of flavors. Pretty cool ones too. As far as quality and the cookie itself Some are perfect some are just a very hard shell with no soft meringue inside which I don't like at all. True macaron should have thin shell like exterior with a soft cookie like interior on the cookie part. Then the filling. I've had better for sure. And they're SO expensive (I bought 6 yesterday and paid over $18!!!!! Like dang) I only come here a few times a year to treat myself. They're good and worth a try. I hate to say that they're not worth the price but won't stop me from coming every now and then
