Ictio Fish House

This is one.of the best food.i had on the peninsula and in general. Avocado salad is exceptional. Oysters were made grilled - superb. Seafood caviche was amazing. I would skip rice. Open space of the restaurant made good ambience. Alberto was exceptional server. Other people had ultimate hospitality but my sclerotic memory did not registered their names.

The seafood is of exceptional quality. Everything was absolutely delicious. The highlight was the catch of the day grilled with butter and garlic. The calamari was also delicious as was the fish tacos. The batter was light, crispy and tasty. As it should be. My only constructive criticism is that one of the two waiters was not friendly at all. It was very uncomfortable to ask him for more lemon as he seemed angry. Maybe he was having a bad day. I was very triggered when he said the suggested tip was 20%. He certainly didn’t deserve it. Gave him the standard 10%.

Delicious!! Visiting from California and this is some of the freshest and most well-prepared seafood I’ve had. The softshell crab tacos were so tastefully made. The adobo octopus, shrimp skewers, and guac were fantastic. Chunky guac fans will LOVE this place - good onion and tomato flavor, not just puréed avocado. My favorite meal in PDC. You must stop here - I’m so serious.

Nice open air restaurant on a quiet corner. You can watch them grill your food. Shrimp vegetable kabobs were tasty and the whole grilled sea bass was so good. It came with a nice salad but could have used a bit more sides. Good wine selection. The Caesar salad was nicely presented but the dressing wasn’t authentic being made with mayonnaise and very little garlic. Very good service here.

A standout little restaurant tucked away from the hustle and bustle of 5th Avenue. The avocado salad was fresh and absolutely delicious, but the grilled octopus completely stole the show. Perfectly tender, beautifully charred, and packed with flavor, it was hands down the highlight of the meal. I’ll be dreaming about it long after I leave.

What a great find! This restaurant is on a quiet street a little bit removed from the hustle of Quintas avenue in Playa. The decor and vibes were very cute and Instagrammable, but the food and service were the real stars. We started off with some cold beers and charales, followed by an assortment of tacos and tostadas. The fish tacos were so perfectly battered and seasoned, and the fish itself was juicy, flaky and fresh. I particularly loved the shrimp aguachile tostadas which was a lovely marriage of textures, balanced flavour and a little bit of heat. The staff were all very friendly. I also greatly appreciated the playlist (Jorja Smith all night!).

On a local's recommendation, I stopped in for lunch at ICTIO Fish House and it instantly became one of my favorite dining experiences here. Then came the whole fried fish — crispy, golden, incredibly fresh, and topped with fresh onions, cilantro, jalapeños, and a charred lime on the side. It was so delicious I could barely put my fork down! The owner himself came out to check on us — so kind, humble, and genuinely passionate about his food. Everything is made with the freshest local ingredients, and it shows in every bite. The flavors are bright, authentic, and unforgettable. ICTIO is an absolute must. This is the kind of meal you'll remember and tell everyone about.

We stayed at the Hyatt Vivid All-Inclusive but decided to venture out for dinner and Ictio exceeded our expectations. Alberto was our server and man he hustled all night.. he was amazing! We ordered the calamari, squash salad, jumbo shrimp, and fresh catch of the day- we opted for snapper but grouper and sea bass were also available. This was the BEST fish I’ve ever had. The entire meal from apps to dessert (churros) was phenomenal!! I will dream about this meal until we return next year.

My husband is a huge seafood eater and...I'm not so much. I like some things but tend to be pretty picky. However, I KNEW we needed to come here because I had heard so many amazing things. We popped in on a random week night around 8PM, so a late dinner. They were packed but we got lucky as there was one table in the back, perfect for us. The service was quick and attentive all night. Our only complaint is they didn't tell us we were crazy americans for all the food we ordered haha! We started with tuna ceviche, which is my fav and I was really excited for because I had not seen it anywhere else in the area. Then we got some oysters rockafeller - the smaller ones were okay but the big ones were BOMB. Tons of flavor and super delicious. My husband got the fish of the day which was sea bass, and they cooked it with a butter garlic sauce. WOAH. I had a few bites and I'm not usually a cooked fish person. My husband said it was the best flavor fish he had the whole trip. I also got the squash salad which was beautifully plated and SO FRESH. I also got a small side of their coconut rice which was very gingery and had really awesome flavor. I was a huge fan and sad to leave most of it because we obviously ordered way too much food. Such a great menu, I enjoyed every bite. Would highly recommend.

We wanted a nice dinner for our last meal in Playa Del Carmen and Ictio did not disappoint. On the hunt for good seafood, I found this local establishment and couldn't have been happier. It's near the shopping area of 5th Avenue but far enough away it wasn't like all the shops and restaurants. Small and intimate, with open air seating to stifle the heat and humidity of the region. Dimly lit to set the mood for a nice meal. The service was excellent. Our server let us know of the fresh catch of the day and how big the sea bass was. We ordered almost everything on the menu. Raw oysters, aguachiles, baked clams, tuna tiridato, ceviche, grilled octopus, jumbo shrimp, salmon. The seafood was fresh, seasoned to perfection, great balance of acidity and saltiness. The cocktails were delicious and strong enough we just got one each. The pacing of dishes that came out were perfect. The only complaint I have is the main entree was the grilled butter catch of the day, we ordered coconut rice as a side and the rice came out last. We did our best to not touch the fish but you want to eat that hot off the grill with something. I loved the soft shell crab tacos. The crabs were huge and fried and seasoned perfectly. We were lucky enough to have a street performance of dancers right in front of the restaurant that rounded out the evening. We ordered churros and the like panna cotta for dessert. The sour and sweetness of the panna cotta was the perfect way to end the meal. I highly recommend Ictio for a nice dinner away from the crowded areas of Central Playa del Carmen and off resort. It wasn't a cheap meal but well worth it

My family stopped in for our final meal in Cancun and we ordered almost everything on the menu. For those who are concerned, they do have English-speaking servers and everyone is very friendly. Forgive me, I don't remember the names of anything on the menu, but I'll try to describe everything as best I can. For drinks, I ordered the passion fruit cocktail and it was probably the best one at the table. It was perfectly balanced with sweet, sour, and smokiness. It was also very alcoholic, and I felt a buzz before I saw the bottom of my cup, but I couldn't even taste it! It was so very good. Appetizers, we ordered chocolata grilled clams, soft shell crab tacos, tuna tiradito, every variety of oysters on a half shell, ceviche, and aguachiles to share. My favorite of them all is probably a tie between the soft shell crab and aguachiles. The flavor of the soft shell crab was so unique and it perfectly complemented the texture of the dish. It was as easy to eat as it was to order, haha. Not only was the crab perfectly seasoned, but it had a delectable crunch. My mouth is watering thinking about it! Aguachiles, you can't go wrong with--excellent flavor and texture, especially served with chips. (I also liked that they served the fresh tortilla chips in a coconut shell! Very campy, but cute!) I also loved the tuna, but it wasn't incredibly unique--if you would like a meal that you can't get anywhere else, definitely order the soft shell crab tacos and chocolata clams. Otherwise, the tuna is a good choice. We also ordered the catch of the day (it was a type of bass when we visited), adobo octopus, jumbo shrimps, and grilled salmon. The octopus and shrimps were really good, but I think the star of the entrees was their catch of the day: an entire grilled fish prepared with garlic and butter. The aroma alone would tell you that this thing was de-lic-ous. We ate it with the coconut rice and we ate every single bite. There was nothing left on the plate. It was so well-prepared and rightfully so, as the star of our meal. I think the catch of the day really made this meal stand out for us during the trip--I've never had anything like it! Overall, I had a wonderful dining experience and everything was so good that we left no crumbs. Every plate was cleared. But we still had room for dessert! Their churros and pana cotta were delicious! The churros were so crunchy, but so soft inside, served with a delicious sauce. The pana cotta was incredibly refreshing and not too sweet after such a big meal. From the moment we sat down to the moment we left, we were well taken care of. I hope that everyone who visits Cancun will be able to enjoy a meal here!

Cute open air restaurant off the beaten track in Playa del C. Featuring battered fish, octopus tacos. Good drinks- I had a st Germain spritz, others had the cinnamon mandarin cocktail recommended by our waiter which was delicious. Service was vigilant but not obtrusive. A welcome find.

My wife and I had a great lunch there and wow it was great food was amazing and so was the service! I highly recommend it. The ambiance was super chill and you need to order the fish of the day and the tostadas ceviche, muah! Super fantastic! Go immediately and also they have a great selection of Mexican craft beer to select.

We returned to Ictio in October 2024- it was still great. Benjamin was there and he was still wonderful, and we had a fabulous time. Great food, drinks, and service- again. So I've found Ictio to be consistent. This has become a must visit place for me, when visiting Playa.

Amazing seafood! Went twice on last trip and so happy they maintained the good vibe. Sri is are on point and seafood is fresh and amazing

Wanted some seafood so I gave this place a try. It was toss up between 3 or 4 stars. I gave it a 4 because there was nothing that tasted bad. And service was great.. Live music was nice touch to the dinner experience. First off I was not too thrilled with my table being on a tad sticky side.. Wth can you wipe the table little better.. Ordered coke and Jamaica for drinks.. I laughed when server brought me a small can of coke.. If I knew that I would not have ordered it.. Something about getting served can of soda at a restaurant kills me.. Ordered guac, calamari and some fresh oysters for start. Guac was yummy like all the other places I've been to. Calamari was tasty, nice and tender. Little different with added fried pickled carrot and jalapeño along with it. Oyster was very fresh and yummy.. Ordered 2 different kind.. Both very yummy. They also gave complimentary dried anchovies.. Which wasn't bad. Anchovies not my favorite so I was not thrilled.. Ordered grilled octopus and grilled grouper for main course. Also orders side of grilled vegetables and coconut rice. Octopus had nice grilled char flavored to it.. But it lacked little on seasoning.. Definitely had better ones in Greece and Italy. But octopus was nice and tender. Grouper was pretty good, grilled perfect and tasted fresh.. But again seasoning was little lacking. Over all the food was pretty good. Service was great like all the restaurants in Mexico. I was debating on 3 stars because of the darn table and some of the food lacking in flavor.. Oh not to mention price.. It is not cheap.. This place was most expensive of all the places we been to so far. But overall experience and food not tasting like crap I decided to give it a 4. Would I come back here again? Probably not.. But if you are in the area and want some good seafood you should give this place a try.

This place after just two visits is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. The atmosphere, the service, and the best part... THE FOOD! What's pictured is the sea bass (catch of the day) cooked perfectly from head to tail. It's the most succulent and light sea bass I've ever had and the flavors are something I will never forget. I mean that. If you are traveling here and want some fresh seafood, LEAVE YOUR HOTEL, and come straight here. In the heart of 5th Ave so you will have plenty to do after.

This was a charming restaurant removed from the bustle of the main tourist area, but close enough to be easily accessible. The fish served Ictio style was particularly good and had a nice subtle smoky flavor. We enjoyed the vibe and attentive, though relaxed, service.

Food isn't cheap but was very good. Service was good and the food came out fast. The seafood is fresh and made well.

Why did they change their menu? And also they're not letting you bring a water bottle to the table which is absolutely ridiculous so I remove one star from it.

We stopped in here while looking for a restaurant that we couldn't find. They were grilling right in the dining area which was fun to watch. I selected the red snapper after seeing it on a platter. It was grilled right in front of us. I was disappointed in the flavor of it. It didn't seem cooked enough and quite bland. My partner had grilled octopus which was very tasty. Even as good as the octopus was, the total cost of the meal was a little high.

Delicious and service was very good. Small and intimate place - great place to bring a date.

We had a rough start here. Took a while for anyone to come by, but finally got the waiter over for a drink order. Then ordered our food. It was going on an hour, we had ordered a couple appetizers, so I flagged someone down, and told him we had ordered appetizers and had been waiting for almost an hour. He really stepped it up and our food started coming out. Started with Caesar salad, very good, the best we have had in the area. The. Had an aquachilli, that was pretty good. A couple of us ordered the fish fillet another ordered the sal on. Both were very good. We had the vegetables and plantains as our extras. We loved both. We will definitely be back here again.

This place is subject to the tourist bias (rated higher because it's frequented by tourists). Only started with the octopus tacos. I found the choice of burnt cheese a very odd choice for octopus. That cheesey flavor overpowered what was an otherwise well-executed octopus taco. The tortillas were fresh and the cabbage and carrots were crunchy and refreshing. The red snapper filet I had as an entree had excellent pickled veggies as a side. They were just the right balance of crisp and still soft enough from the pickling process. The garlic butter sauce and capers I chose with the snapper were savory and just slightly floral and astringent. The fish itself was fairly executed. It wasn't overcooked, but it wasn't ultra tender or flaky. And there were bits of it that definitely had an off-putting fishy flavor.

This place is so perfect I want to keep it to myself- but I'll be nice and share. The atmosphere is great. it's a block off the main drag and instead of over-the-top touristy it feels casual and authentic. It's not fancy but just right. The staff are great. Our waiter was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and very nice. The food -Every bite was a JOY! We had the tuna ceviche and shrimp aguachile plus guacamole to start. Then came the grilled fish of the day Ictio style. Cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. We finished with the best churros. I was sad to miss the oysters but we were full- next time. I'd highly recommend everything. 5 stars and 10 yums.

This place has an intimate open setting just a block away from the noise of Mr. Frogs and the Central shops. Food can compete with anything in San Francisco, Tokyo, South America, etc. In other words, food is excellent. It's a fairly small place ... the service is attentive. We'll be back for sure.

Love the delicious Gluten-free options for seafood! Make sure to try the ceviche for Appetizer and octopus for main. Also helps that the restaurant is a bit off the busy path The restaurant has stood the test of the time over the years easily.

When you walk passed it does not look nearly as cool as the other places in the area. But i have to say, as a ceviche expert, i was so happy with everything! So good! The raw oysters, the fish of the day, the civichie and the drinks! Amazing! Everyone is so nice too! Javier was the sweetest and was so funny! 10/10

Lovely fish and seafood experience here! We picked out our fish and watched it as it was grilled not far from out outdoor patio seating. Nice romantic setting, great service from Jaime. My grilled octopus was my favorite seafood meal here in Playa del Carmen! Perfectly grilled, local seafood (we watched as the fresh fish came in-including the lobster).

We randomly came upon this place while walking and looking for a place to eat. Someone literally told us this was one of the best restaurants so we decided to give it a shot. DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! The seafood here is so good and fresh. I got the catch of the day, and my friends had the caesar salad, calamari, fish tacos, and the shrimp ceviche. The service was also pretty good! The people here were really nice and attentive, highly recommend!

I'm so torn about this place. The flavors are amazing, and we enjoyed the few dishes we ordered. Unfortunately, something was not cooked properly and this meal took me out for the rest of the night. So, I hesitate to come back because I can't risk another night lost on our short trip, so proceed with caution and make sure you order food that is fully cooked.

The best fish I've ever eaten in my life. We had reservations for another higher end more expensive restaurant. I came in the day before and spoke with Chef Demian. He told me I would not regret it and boy was he right! Everything from the happy hour 2x1 margaritas to the octopus appetizer and the fresh grilled fish. To say the food and service is amazing does not do this place justice. It's a small location but big in taste and service. Definitely a top 5 Playa Del Carmen restaurant. Beto, our waiter, was super attentive to all of our needs and was spot on with his suggestions.

The octopus tacos were so delicious! We had to order another round. We also ordered the shrimp tacos, which was tasty, and the seafood ceviche, which was ok. I think I'm not a fan of raw shrimp and scallop. But I would definitely go back solely to get more octopus tacos! We timed our visit on a day where they had live music. A saxophone player was there during our dinner and he was fantastic!

This place has a small menu and everything we had was out of this world good. My favorite was the octopus tacos but the shrimp skewers and tuna tardito were special too. Service was exceptional and the drinks were tasty. Cute spot too with a romantic vibe. 5 stars for sure

Wow wow wow! Super fresh. Delicious. I am so happy my friend and I got to come. Apparently it's hard to get a reservation but we managed to get in on a Friday. I loved my shrimp but that fish was BOMB!

Super sweet spot only a few paces off the main road. They serve amazingly fresh seafood. The best ceviche. Raw oysters from Ensenada were delectable, especially at happy hour prices. Charred octopus worth a try. Grilled shrimp (by recommendation) were surprisingly finger licking good!!! Everything we had tasted clean, fresh, and delicious! Hector, our server, put a bow on the entire experience. This will be THE spot we'll come back to!!

After 4 nights in Playa del Carmen, this is far the best food we had this whole time! Every dish was amazing and had an unique taste. The place is very nice as well and the costumer service! We loved it!

Meal was PHENOMENAL. I highly recommend it. I had the seafood ceviche, fried shrimp taco, fish tacos, and octopus tacos. All were so so good. The calamari was good but not on the same caliber as the tacos but I would still order it. Definitely worth going out of the way to come here. Benjamin was great!

The food/drinks and service is sooo amazing we came 2 days in a row. Try the fish and shrimp tacos, and calamari! Probably will be back tomorrow!

Not only the best seafood restaurant in Playa but the best meal in Playa, period. Damian, the chef couldn't have been kinder and more hospitable and Benjamin, our server was fantastic. They made us feel very welcome. The menu is small but focused and fresh. Best fish taco I've ever had, clams were exceptional, ceviche de pescado was bright and refreshing, and the whole fish Ictio (with red and green sauce) was flavorful and outstanding. All the handmade flour and corn tortillas were delicious and well made. Don't forget the churros with a carajillo! Very stylish little restaurant too with great music! Wish we had found this sooner on our trip!

Wonderful small local restaurant. Food and service was excellent. I would recommend it for smaller groups or a couple.

Place is so good! Ambiance is chill and the food is flavorful. HIGHLY recommend the aguachile, pulpo, grilled oysters and grilled fish.

The food is great, very fresh and tasty. Try fish of the day! We got a seabass. The staff is very friendly and service is fast - coming from NY we pay a lot of attention to it) We came back to that place so it means we really liked it.

I had an incredible Aguachiles here, so very very good. The service was amicable and the dining area small and quaint. Due to C19 they took our temperature and had us clean our hands, which was fine. Everyone loved what they had...but in particular I enjoyed a couple of small brewery beers here, one a Bock from a bottle (yes! a bock from Mexico) the other a lager in a can. I noticed that the table next to us ordered cocktails that looked very interesting. One had a small cinnamon stick burning like incense and was called a Rumba. I ordered that drink and it was the best of the vacation! I believe it was rum and passion fruit, but i am not sure what else it contained. Great restaurant, great part of playa that is not as crazy as 5th Ave. Check it out, you won't regret it!

This restaurant has one of the best ceviches and aguachiles I've had in Mexico! The chef used to work at a luxury hotel nearby before starting his own thing here. The cocktails and mocktails are really good and so is their churros.

Found this spot on a whim and fell in love very quickly. It's a charming spot a bit off the tourist path, but definitely worth the walk. We came for dinner and they had a live band. Benjamin was our waiter and was so attentive and great to chat with. Clams: 10/10, we got 2 orders first and then got another bc so good. Catch of the day: 10/10 only note is we wish it was more grilled but aside from that it was delicious and saucy. Large shrimp: 10/10. These were LARGE, and so well seasoned. Churros: 10/10 do not disappoint and you can tell we're freshly made. Guava dessert: 7/10. Was good but not very into the foam Greek yogurt on top.

The quality of the food and the warm and passion from the staff makes this corner restaurant worth driving a distance for. A friend had walked by and met the sister of the owner who was warm and sweet and he wanted us to try it. They know their stuff and they love what they do. For the price you can't beat this experience. My friend said this was the best octopus he's ever had.

Super cute spot if you're looking for a nice, lowkey spot to get dinner. Came here on a Wednesday night with a craving for fresh seafood, and was not disappointed. We ordered the seafood ceviche tostada, the aguachile tostada, grilled oysters, grilled octopus, and the catch of the day - ictio style. Everything was incredible, but the star was absolutely the ceviche tostada. My partner also loved the adobo style octopus, which was not tough or chewy like most octopus is prepared. We also loved how well curated the drinks were too.

OMG was our meal incredible. I had high hopes for Ictio and it did not disappoint in the slightest. The seafood is so fresh and made with such flavor - wow. We had a raw tuna starter, shrimp skewers, and one other app that is escaping me. They were to die for. I then had the catch of the day whole fish "Ictio-style." I was blown away. The flavors were soooo delicious. All of this was made even better but our fabulous service Benjamin. Still dreaming about this dinner.

Every dish we had here was amazing. The flavors were so well balanced. The fish was so fresh. The service from Benjamin was on point. He deserves a huge raise. My entire party was very impressed. Much better than any of the other seafood places we've been to! Worth the hour drive from Tulum!

Amazing!!! Benjamin was the best server and the food was INCREDIBLE. This is the fish taco and it was so good! The prices are excellent.

I really wanted to like this place- I saw the reviews and thought it would be the perfect spot for my friends birthday celebration- the place itself is very cute but service and food were awful. My friend ordered a coke and got an apple juice( after waiting over 20 min in a non crowded restaurant)- the pulpo( octopus) which I was looking forward to was rubbery and did not taste fresh- we paid $80 for three meals the size of appetizers, no alcohol and left hungry!! I would NOT recommend this place

Came here in Feb 2021 and had to come back. this place never ever disappoints. I'd eat here every night if i lived in Playa.Margaritas were excellent as were the oysters and end the local catch. I really love this place , its my new favorite restaurant.
