"Idle Hands is a new bar in Montrose with a menu inspired by Cuban and Latin American cuisine. The decor features a tropical theme with lots of green plants, a big patio, and a straightforward food menu including Cubano sandwiches and shrimp tacos. Drinks are mostly fruity, such as a passionfruit spritz and a frozen Pina colada." - Adele Chapin

"Idle Hands is a Havana-inspired cocktail bar that originated during the pandemic on Austin’s Rainey Street. The bar will open in Houston at 910 Westheimer Road, sharing the building with Uchi and Aladdin Mediterranean Cuisine. The menu features Cuban and Colombian cuisine, including Cubano sandwiches and a chorizo burger, complemented by tropical fruit-based cocktails and rum drinks. The venue will have a rooftop patio and live music seven days a week, offering a relaxed but curated atmosphere inspired by travels through the Caribbean and Latin America." - Brittanie Shey

I’ll leave one star just for the fact that it’s a rooftop bar. Came here spent about $100 for a burger and cubano and drinks which is fine if it was worth it. But it wasnt. Food was served on paper plates, plastic silverware. Tables were filthy. The bartenders never left the bar. Never cleaned the tables we got lucky and found an empty one. They were nice at least. Half the drink menu was blacked out. For what you spend here do not waste your money. The burger was basic nothing near worth it when burger joint is right next door. The music was ok but I would not come here. Oh and they have a 20% gratuity off top. We tipped on top of that not realizing the sign. I would not have minded the gratuity if they actually did something. Gave us a buzzer And we had to pick our own food up and bring it to the table. Most mediocre Houston bar I’ve been to yet. Go to FM kitchen across the street and get great service great good and great drinks that’s worth it.

Ok, I feel bad for typing this review. First time here. They are remodeling, so front entrance is closed and you come in through the back. No biggie at all. We ordered drinks and food. The cocktails were beautifully crafted and I hope that the attached photos (one of my wife’s drink, the other of my food). The name of her drink was Rosa Mexicano. It was beautiful and she loved it. The plate I ordered was the “Cheesy Birria Biscuit & Gravy with Hash Browns”. Honestly it was delish. Why the 2 stars? The chairs and tables were dirty. The black table cloth on our first table had stains and the table was unsteady. We moved to a different area of the rooftop bar under a metallic roof and that was nicer, but the white cushions on the chairs were screaming to be cleaned or washed. I would be embarrassed to bring a date there. The drink was very small so I kept expecting a server to come to our table and offer additional adult beverages. Lord knows I would have spent the money. But no…as it turns out, the one and only bar tender never leaves the bar (we came in on Sunday for brunch). We finished eating and the plates just stayed there. Enough time lapsed after that I grabbed our empty plates and walked them to the bar so we could get that out of the way. Then, as I am already at the bar, I order LoveStreet draft, and the server bends down to open the fridge that holds canned beer and gives me a can. Like, come on…no draft beer at a bar? All in all, perhaps it’s a tough time due to the construction, but I do not see enough value to go back to this establishment. There are plenty of amazing options.

I love the patio and how laid back the atmosphere here is! It’s really nice and their cocktails are so good. My favorite was the Rosa Mexicano!

Google
Awesome place with live music, yummy bites and cocktails. The ambiance of the rooftop is nice and dog friendly. I like grapefruit so the fresh grapefruit cocktails was a plus for me. IG-love_to_exist

Simple spot, standard service at best, rooftop is a melting pot in the heat. Bartenders are not good at all.

I really like this lounge. I've been here two or three times although never when it was super busy. I think there are three highlights: the drinks, the service, and the space. The drinks are really super tasty, although they tend to be a bit more of what you'd find in a speakeasy rather than your neighborhood watering hole. This means you'll get more exotic liqueurs, bitter and sour flavors, and fancy garnishes, although the bar is fully stocked and should be able to entertain most of your requests for normal cocktails if nothing on the curated menu looks good. The service is fantastic and the people who work here are SOOOO friendly. You can tell that they like the bar where they work at which is really important; conversation is easy and really enjoyable and the energy is kind of infectious. It's a pleasure to interact with the people who work here. I've even seen the custodians walking around with smiles on their faces. The space is gorgeous and very carefully planned. The downstairs bar is a little more toned-down for people who aren't into the lounge thing and has a very sleek aesthetic whereas the upstairs lounge is a bit more air-conditioned tropical in its feel; there is a lot of wood furniture and greenery adorning the place and it's really pleasingly decorated. Overall a 5/5

Google
Love this place! Such an awesome addition to the Montrose area! Not cheap, but delicious cocktails and a gorgeous rooftop terrace. I really enjoyed their old fashioned. Live music when they are open, Wednesday through Sunday. Happy hour special from 5-7 $3 snacks, $7 handhelds, $5 beers, $6 wells, $2 off specialty cocktails!

I'm currently here and I am disappointed in the many changes that have taken place, such as the menu changes. I came here looking forward to enjoying the classic Chicken Empanadas, but they're no longer offered, as well as, no bottled water. If you want any type of food, you can no longer order and be served upstairs. I've overheard other people say they want food, but are not going up and down stairs for food. I guess I am not the only person disappointed with the changes because this place is usually packed and there may may be 10-12 people here.

Yelp
I stopped by Idle Hands on a weekday for dinner and drinks. In the space that used to be Rosemont, Idle Hands is located on the corner of Westheimer and Montrose right next to Uchi, Aladdin's, and a bunch of other restaurants. While they don't have a complimentary lot, I was able to find parking on the street on a side street a few minutes away by foot. Idle Hands is my type of spot. Why, because while there is an indoor area, the meat and potatoes is the rooftop area. There's comfortable lounge seating and they had a projector showing Monday night football. They even had a DJ who played a great selection of songs. It was a vibe. Add to the tropical theme of the bar, and it's a winner in my book. I had a couple of cocktails and the service was great throughout. You order your drinks at the bar. I was a big fan of Rosemont so I was bummed when they closed down. I was pleasantly surprised that Idle Hands has carried the torch well.

Yelp
Complementary valet! I repeat Complementary valet!!!! Save the headache of looking for parking because there is Complementary valet!! There's also a parking garage near by with cute shops and restaurants. The place is super cute. Gender neutral restrooms. Outdoor patio. Automatic gratuity is included in on your tab. Would come back to try more of their food and drinks. Also, the music was on point. There's a DJ upstairs and downstairs.

Yelp
I went to Idle Hands for brunch. It is a really cute place especially to go with friends and the brunch mimosas are greatly priced. The staff was extremely friendly. One negative was the food. I didn't enjoy eating paper plates and our food was given to us cold. Nevertheless, the manager made it up to us. I would definitely return for drinks.

Yelp
Staff Recovery - Covid fee of 20%?!?! Yea, no. Why would anyone think that this is ok? Can I charge y'all for the masks that I had to buy or the gas I spent to get my vaccine? Response edit - you aren't being proactive in helping your staff, I am. You are making your customers help them. If you want to help them, let this 20% come out of your pocket. You own a business, I don't. Also, what about all of the other service industry workers that visit your bar that also went through tough times? You think it's up to them to help your staff catch up? They need to catch up as well. Again, if you want to help your staff, put your money where your mouth is or at least acknowledge that we are helping your staff, not you.

Yelp
Came to Idle Hands on a sunny Saturday afternoon to grab a drink. We parked in the back of the location and went up the stairs. Once upstairs, the patio was super cute and had plenty of space. There were 4 cabana's that were open seating towards the street and on the side were high tables. The bar was open to both areas outside areas as well as a small inside seating area. There was a DJ located in the corner playing a techno mix. We enjoyed our drink and the breeze under one of the comfy cabanas. Bathrooms were really clean as well. I think we would definitely come back here when we are in the area again!

Yelp
Nice little vibe for daytime . They have a dj upstairs, but they mostly play one genre of music . The drinks we tried: the fassionola daiquiri , frozen mojito with was very refreshing and a canned cider . We were able to find parking on a Saturday afternoon so that was also nice .the seating outside is very cute especially as the sun sets and they turn on the lights and battery powered candles . The fans also help to stay cool .

Yelp
Love to location, the bar is on the second story tucked in the corner or Westheimer & Montrose. It's a great patio bar, they have a great happy hour section with food and drinks. We didn't order anything special as far as drinks, but the service was great and would definitely entertain returning to this place for the atmosphere, large patio, and good bar eats.

Yelp
Went Friday night around 7:15pm and when you enter the business off Westheimer, they have a sign up that says "Sorry our downstairs bar isn't open yet, join us upstairs." Ok, fair enough, we were interested in the rooftop bar anyway. You get upstairs and the interior upstairs is exceedingly small, maybe 10 people could fit up there comfortably. I asked the bartender if they had heaters outside and he said they did, so with that we went outdoors, 39F cold and tried to find a comfortable place to sit and have some small bites and a beer or two. We moved around trying to find the perfect place between being freezing cold and getting warmed up via the heaters. We ordered two beers from the bar, watched a little Star Wars on the popup screen and then decided to order the elote and chicken empanadas. 10 mins go by, the bartender tells us the food is ready. We take it over to our table and dig in. Now, the elote is surprisingly good, but the chicken empanadas were as bland as anything I've ever eaten. There was zero flavor in them and I would have sent them back but we were really hungry so we just gobbled them down. We finish up the small bites and go back inside due the fact that the heaters really aren't cutting it. We get one more beer and decide to call it. Got the bill, paid it, added my 20% tip as I do, left and then got home and looked more closely and there was a 20% added fee for COVID recovery. I get that you want to help your employees, but remember, WE ALL WENT THRU and ARE STILL GOING THRU a pandemic. Some of us were out of work for months on end, some of lost our places we call home, but I wouldn't walk into any business and say "I've had a rough time this past couple of years and I need a 20% discount that will help me enjoy my life just a little bit." The rooftop will be cool when its warmer outside. Now, for the fake reviews that the owner is putting out, just stop. Yelp
This place charges 'staff recovery covid fee' and they weren't even open pre pandemic. Just raise your prices and pay your staff appropriately.

Yelp
Super hot but the atmosphere is vibe ah, the drinks are strong so be careful. The music is loud and great. Super DJ. We are getting a show today.

Ginger M.

Yelp
Loved my experience at Idle Hands the food was bar foods but the cocktails were excellent. The bartender was great.

Pooja N.

Yelp
Cute outdoor patio! I went for my friends birthday happy hour and the live band was so nice. Great drinks like green tea shots and some watermelon shot that I forgot the name of. Beware the water cooler as sometimes the spout pops off! Really nice service helped me out when I accidentally pulled it off.

Iris L.

Yelp
The bar is a bit hidden...you need to go to the back of the parking lot of uchi to really find it. But they have cute cocktails and good vibes with live DJ on weekend. The drinks are a bit sugary but I liked trying the different cocktails they had on the menu.

Liz N.

Yelp
So Idle hands just opened today, taking over the old Rosemont space in Montrose. It came from Austin and best described as Caribbean and Latin vibes. I came here with a couple friends to try the drinks and they were really tasty. I got the La Sandia Menta and the strawberry mule and I highly recommend both. I didn't order any food since we had dinner plans, but I plan on returning for both food and drinks. I do love the patio upstairs. It will be a great place to hang out!

Jackie K.

Yelp
While Idle Hands is a beautiful, fun bar, the food is actually great too. We had an order of the pork tacos and burger, and both were great. It's a great spot, with great service to match.

Rachel I.

Yelp
Went for the first night look and had a great time! This is an awesome place to grab a cocktail whether with friends or for a date. While you could sit inside both down and upstairs, we went straight to the upstairs patio. There I really enjoyed the Fig Manhattan and the Old Rosser. The pricing for cocktails was middle of the road, but rest assured they're delicious and of good quality. Food wasn't super impressive here, hence the 4 stars, but overall a great place to have a drink, especially if it's a beautiful night and you can enjoy the outdoors!

Melissa B.

Yelp
Cool vibes, kitchen closed business open, lol. First floor features drinks w/no prices . Adorable for a date night or girls night out. Live entertainment good. Upstairs is a vibe and my drink was made with surgeon like precision, it's delish. The DJ is delivering.

Roy S.

Yelp
This place charges a 20% autograt, apparently, a few people have been suckered because the staff does not make people aware (why would they?) So you tip what you would normally (for me 20%), unaware, and you are tipping over 40 percent because you are tipping on the tip. Man, if you think stealing from customers is going to help your employees, good luck on that one. You can fool me once but you lost a customer and these reviews stay. You've been open 2 months, your business didn't suffer through covid. Bunch of grifters!

Ernest M.

Yelp
Very nice place to just chill or hear some music great upstairs patio, the staff is very friendly and helpful

Brittany G.

Yelp
Happy Hour all day is a beautiful thing! Nice and beautiful, very secluded location. This was such a cheap but fancy place to come to! I'd HIGHLY recommend! 10/10!!!

Yelp
I was excited to try this place but won't be rushing back. I went on a Saturday night and hung out upstairs. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but there's no real view from the rooftop - you're just looking at businesses across the street. It was moderately crowded with plenty of good seating to hang out. The drinks were good but the food was mediocre bar food. The tacos were some of the lamest I've had in Houston. My real problem with this place is the atmosphere seems high end with prices to match and they fail to deliver upon it. They bring you mediocre food on paper plates. There was some issue where they said my Chase credit card wasn't pre-authorizing so they'd have to hold on to it. That's never happened to me anywhere else. A better way of handling this would've been to simply say "can we hold on to a card for the tab." Then upon closing out my tab I learned they automatically include gratuity. The service was fine and I would've tipped my standard 18-20% but this rubbed me the wrong way. Overall I think this place has an identity crisis where they want to appear high end but they're not. They charge relatively high prices, offer you a nice environment to hang out in, but don't trust you with real plates or believe in their patrons to leave a good tip.

Yelp
Came here on Sunday afternoon for a couple of drinks. Their valet garage is the same one as for Uchi's. The downstairs bar was closed, so we enjoyed the rooftop bar area. There was a DJ, and the music was quite loud when we arrived around 5pm, but by 5:30/6pm, it was more conversation-friendly in terms of volume. I went with the French 85 (Ford's gin, guava, lemon, bubbles) and loved it. The guava really added a fun spin to this. Also tried the Rosa Mexicano (El Silencio mezcal, lime, raspberry sorbet), which had a beautiful dried mini-rose floating. This wasn't overly smoky nor overly sweet - it was a very well balanced drink. Their Idle Paloma (Deep Eddy Ruby Red Vodka, Lunazul tequila, grapefruit, ginger, orange) comes in a cute colorful can, and the ginger adds depth to the drink. The Old Rosser (Brother's Bond bourbon, ginger, apple cider) was refreshing and light. Ambiance is fun - casual and hip. Service is a bit slow, as you have to stand in line for the drinks.

Tiffany S.

Yelp
Cocktail menu is on point. Mario (bartender) is talented and welcoming. Beautiful upstairs patio with heaters and great music keeps the energy going. The perfect after-dinner night cap but they do have food if you're hungry. A great compliment to this famous intersection. Gay friendly.

Haley M.

Yelp
I absolutely love idle hands! The atmosphere is amazing and the drinks are even better. I love coming here with friends during the week for happy hour. Definitely recommend!

Jasmine Y.

Yelp
I absolutely love the décor and ambiance of Idle Hands! Its a little oasis! We were there on a Sunday and they offer a brunch menu for drinks and food. There was a wonderful saxophone player playing that added to the experience. There is a bar upstairs and downstairs. They do have a patio that allows you to enjoy the music even more! I will return!

John M.

Yelp
The owner has responded and tried to spin this as an issue with misreading the receipt but the issue remains simple: the receipts here have a standard tip line and, between the tax and total, a 20% fee tacked on. Don't give customers receipts with a tip line if you're already back-dooring one and using COVID as an excuse. There have also been a ton of fake reviews added to pump up the rating here which another reviewer has pointed out. Shady business practices build well on top of one another, I guess.

Joe R.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place. The bartender gal was super friendly and attentive to us. House cocktails are solid. The DJ kicks ass!

Alex L.

Yelp
Wonderful rooftop bar with pretty good bar food and nice cocktails. The atmosphere when we were there was so chill and relaxed it was a great way to watch the sunset.

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Great rooftop vibes! Amazing drink & food menu! Great service and GREAT live music! A MUST checkout in Montrose!

Yelp
I planned a birthday brunch for myself along with 25 of my closest family and friends. I booked and reserved my area and small snacks three weeks in advance just to give the venue enough time to get everything that I requested prepared and ready for when my guest and myself arrived. I arrived at 1:00pm my guest started arriving shortly after. After about thirty minutes of gathering I asked what I thought was a member of the kitchen staff when would the appetizer start coming to the table the answer I got was they'll be out shortly, well shortly turned out to be 2 hours later by this time my guest had already start to order food which was coming faster than the appetizer we were all still waiting on!!! Once everyone had already ordered and ate the appetizer came out 3 hours later!!! The only thing that I have nice to say about Idle Hands was the scenery was really nice along with the service of the bartender. This place is not equipped to do large parties...I also found out that the hospitality coordinator does not live in Houston and didn't let that be known while I was in constant communication with him almost daily about my event. I later found out that they don't have any servers you have to order from the bartender and someone who works there brings you your order. Because my event was booked in advance I was really upset that I was treated as if I had just planned this out the day before!! I wouldn't recommend this venue to anyone!! I was refunded for my entire party was told it would take 48 hours it actually took 7 days. Really disappointed about the Houston location and in the words of my hospitality coordinator HOUSTON LOCATIONS DROPPED THE BALL really bad

Joy R.

Yelp
This bar is absolutely beautiful! The drinks are out of this world and the food so delicious. This is now my favorite place to come have a drink.

Gabriel M.

Yelp
An amazing location where you can have a drink and a fun/inviting environment. They are all truly welcoming and patient.

Tyler C.

Yelp
Beautiful bar with even more beautiful drinks. Rooftop atmosphere is perfect for date night and love that they support musicians with live music as well. Mario and Joey were our bartenders and couldn't have been more welcoming to our group. Will definitely be going back here for sure!

Jen L.

Yelp
The rooftop at Idle Hands gives you a great spot to lounge with friends and take in the views of the city. There is plenty of seating and ample access to the bar to make sure you're never thirsty. Spaces are moody, green, and lush, so the whole spot feels like a tropical getaway. Cocktails at Idle Hands consistently deliver. There are often new cocktails on the menu that reflect more seasonal flavors, so it's always fun to see what the new additions are. Pricing is also fair considering the quality of service, the friendly staff, the beautiful environment, and the delicious drinks. This is a great spot with a versatile environment: you could bring your parents, a date, or meet coworkers for happy hour.

Jordan L.

Yelp
I effing love this place! Incredible atmosphere with immaculate vibes and awesome food. Pretty sure the other bad reviews on here are from the same group of disgruntled folks. You'd be doing a serious disservice to yourself if you don't pay a visit!!!
