We are blown away at the beauty to be found in this lovely park. Having been traveling through lots of desert for the last few weeks, this was a huge breath of fresh air - literally and figuratively. And the trees we've never seen before! Their pines, cones, branches and scents were out of this world amazing. We love talking long walks in Nature, and this had it all, something for all the senses (esp hit the Sensory Garden and the Rose Gardens!!). So happy we were staying right across the river from here and could go here as often as we wanted/needed for our outdoor therapy 💗

Well the family was gambling me and the kiddo went Shredder at this park we had so much fun! It's pretty small but it has great features and the locals are super friendly and nice as long as you're respectful like you should be at any skatepark that you're not local. great place!

Google
We love going to Idlewild park with our dog Leroy and his many friends! Easy access to the river, great walking and bike paths, lots of shade and grass. It's a wonderful neighborhood park with great access and connectivity to other trails and areas of the city.

So beautiful here! There are geese to watch, some with babies! Also, there's a cool rose garden.

Stopped by this location on a whim today and was absolutely blown away by how freaking amazing it is!! It has a larger park for bigger kids and a smaller one for younger smaller children. It has a couple small lakes and a trail that goes on for miles. It also has a little train for I'm assuming the kids to ride when it runs and an absolutely gorgeous rose park and a trail that runs the Truckee River for miles. The wide array of foliage and trees makes the scenery just beyond. Will definitely be coming here more!!

Yelp
Since we visit Reno often, we're always looking for spots to hang out outside of the casino and arcade. After doing a quick search, we found Idlewild park had some pretty cool photos and reviews. Idlewild park has a unique playground featuring 3 ziplines, 2 tall climbing structures with tunnels and slides, monkey bars, a merry go round and a few other climbing and spinning activities. Yesterday we took a walk and realized Idlewild has more to offer. There is a pool and peace officers memorial next to the park and pond and a second park across the street. The kids loved seeing all the ducks and geese and were excited to learn the pond had froze over. They spent about an hour pulling ice from the shore, watched the ducks slide as they walked across the ice, and wondered how thick the ice was. Despite the cold the kids had a good time. I have yet to find an open bathroom, the one by the playground weas locked. I imagine this park is a popular spot to hang out during the summer months when it is warmer.

Yelp
Huge place, great activities but a little hard to park when there's an event. So my advice is to arrive early and plan your activity!

Yelp
Idlewild Park is the Jewel of Reno & the Truckee River.. this is a heavily treed paradise for picnics, walking, jogging or just sitting on the acres of lawn enjoying the peace & quiet.. Special thanks to the Idlewild Park Rangers for keeping the homeless camps and clutter in check. If you are looking for a safe place to take your family or just yourself, give Idlewild park a try.

Yelp
Best skatepark in Reno. Huge bowl and a great half pipe section with a rail. Snowboard Jump in the middle of the Park

Yelp
It is a beautiful setting for relaxing and enjoying some time with family and friends. The grounds are well manicured. We visited the James D. Hoff Peace Officers Memorial and the Rose Garden. It was relaxing and heartfelt.

Yelp
Reno's premier park, Idlewild Park was acquired in 1921 and was ready for the Transcontinental Highway Exposition held here in June 1927. Since then, it's expanded with a swimming pool, zoo, amusement park, picnic shelters, walkways and the arboretum. It's continued with other major expansions including a street food rodeo, sensory garden and baseball diamonds. I spent a good amount of time here walking on the paved paths, appreciating the lush greens and watching people playing softball. It's a beautiful park. There is a lot of shaded parking and there is no overnight parking permitted. Look out for the many speed bumps and kids running across the roadways. [Review 17725 overall - 67 in Nevada - 1246 of 2022.]

Yelp
Review based on bike friendliness. 2 Stars for lack of bike friendliness. 4 Stars for the rest of the park 3 Star average. Quality/Quantity - VERY short bike path, also shared with pedestrians. Atmosphere - There is a park train also, but I did not see it. Plenty of parking. Very kid and dog friendly. Regular restrooms and outhouses depending on which parking lot you chose. They have the following amenities: Barbecue Baseball/Softball Basketball Court Exercise Court Horseshoe Court Pathway Picnic Shelter Playground Rentable Shelter Tables/Benches Tennis Court Skate Park Volleyball Water Play Toys, Pool Year-round Restrooms Rentable shelters, check website and call for pricing: Rose Garden - Capacity:100 Snowflake - Capacity: 200 Terrace - Capacity: 200 Service - See above. Price - Free, except for the pool and rentable shelters. Owner Comment - Thank you City of Reno for this park. I might come back for some of the other activities.

Yelp
Idlewild Park is located along the Truckee River in Reno. The park has a lot of good, and some bad. Here is some of the bad. The park can be a hub for the homeless. I have seen several homeless people camping out, especially in the summer. But Reno PD is great about clearing them out. In the evening I have seen shady characters hanging out in the parking lots. Once again, I am thankful Reno PD is aware of this. Idlewild Park is the home of Food Truck Fridays. I would recommend giving it a try, but it gets very busy. There is a whole section of the park dedicated to roses. It's very pretty here. There is a sensory garden where veggies and fruits are grown. There is a man made lake with plenty of ducks and geese. There is a very nice walking path along the river. It's very scenic and very nice. Overall the park is mostly clean. There are tons of picnic tables and covered eating areas. There are several bathrooms scattered throughout this large park. There are several parking lots at this park. There are two playgrounds at this park. Playground 1 will be called the Jungle Playground, because it's jungle themed. The jungle playground has a playground for infants, a playground for toddlers, a playground for bigger kids, and a workout area for adults. There are two sets of big kid swings at this playground. There are toddler swings at this playground. There are several slides and structures to play on. Wood chips are underneath this playground. There is a covered eating area here. There are also several other picnic tables under matured trees. There is a bathroom right next to the playground. The second playground I will call the green playground. The green playground was built a few years ago. It is a massive upgrade to what was there before. The climbing structures are really cool. There are zip lines at this playground. They appear to be very fun. Rubber pieces are underneath the zip lines but the rest of the playground has a soft padding underneath. This playground has a gate around it. There is a bathroom located next to the playground. There is a police officers memorial at the park. It's very nice and well done. Have fun out there. - Dadzone

Yelp
Huge park with lots of different things to do and see. We were here at the end of March some things weren't up and running yet but still a cool hangout for the kids.

Yelp
My sis and I have fond memories from our childhood visiting, and still love to visit when we can. I remember growing up with the carnival ride area. Now there is a sensory garden where that used to be, which I can appreciate now in my adult years. It is surrounded by the Truckee River, and there are some smaller parks nearby, equally as beautiful. We have friends who live up in this neck of the woods who we sometimes visit, and we have all gathered to take walks around the general area on nice days. Always breathtaking.

Yelp
Thought I'd write an update on this amazing park and amazing event celebrating the 2022 Earth Day in Reno, NV. It was so much fun being around like minded folks and folks just having an awesome time enjoying the lovely Reno weather we had Earth Day weekend. I helped with serving the alcoholic beverages (beer and cider). Mercury Momentum who is one of the hosts of Reno Earth Day paid for my Alcohol Awareness class and helped me become the beer pouring aficionado I am today (lol). I did learn that the cider I served had the highest alcohol content which surprised me. It was followed by an IPA. I loved how the people were happy, enjoying the music, and events at the park. I left satisfied that I had done my part at volunteering and "helping the earth" and helping to raise money for next year' event. Fun times and welcome to my favorite time of the year (Spring/Summer) in Reno!

Yelp
A year later and we're giving the "Green Monster" another shot with a kiddo who's slightly older. This time the playground was less crowded, allowing the kiddos to test healthy boundaries with this somewhat formidable playground. I was happy my son was willing to push himself a bit and try to explore the advanced tower, but as soon as he had to leave the tunnel, he got very scared. Frankly, he's totally justified too. Kids under 5 are still learning to control their gross motor movements and the large gap between the platform and tunnel is very daunting. See one tower is rated for everyone while the other is 5+. Despite that rating, there's no separation between them, and countless younger kids find their way over to the more advanced structure and freeze. All it would take is some older kids coming through to push one of the younger kids into a dangerous spot, or worse, a kiddo who is confident and just makes a mistake leading to a traumatic experience and possible injury. My son being a year older meant he could enjoy this place a bit more, but my parental instincts still set off alarms. I watched kids as young as 2 moving around the structure, and I'd hate for them to get caught in the wrong place.

Yelp
Summer Camp, river walks, trains, two playgrounds, a pond, ball fields and tons of other stuff to do here. The lion park has always been a favorite of the kids but the green park has taken over as their favorite. It s a huge play structure with zip lines and awesome merry go round. 10 out of 10, highly recommend.

Yelp
Couple of awesome playgrounds, lots of ponds and water, tons of parking, basketball courts, skatepark. You name it they have it.

Yelp
This park is so relaxing. I sat on the benches and just relaxed by the water. You can hear birds all around you; it's beautiful. I posted the tree that was right next to me. It was amazing just sitting under it. It doesn't matter if it's sunny or not because you can simply go under a tree. I recommend this for anyone, whether they are families or just if you want to go hang out or have a picnic with your significant other. Park is simply amazing. If you like birds and nature, this is a place to go. There were tons of birds and squirrels all around me running around. It was really awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
If you want to just walk around and even bike around this is the park to go to. It's close to downtown, and also you can walk right by the river if you want to. A lot of events happen at this park too, so sometimes it gets busy, especially during the summer. But overall good park to just hang out at.

Yelp
Every city should have a beautiful multi-use park like this one. The park is maintained well. The weakest feature of this park is that there is not a great place to ride bicycles. The gardens are a perfect place to unwind. It was cool when they did fireworks in the park on 4th of July.

Yelp
A good place for hanging out and some exercise. Idlewild Park is west of Midtown Reno. Located along the Truckee River. Fun activities. There's often some food trucks. It has some interesting areas. Probably the best part is walking along the Truckee River. The path also goes past a garden with flowers and other cool looking plants, as these also have good smells. It has a playground for children and some workout equipment for adults. There's a few baseball and softball fields. It's kind of annoying to get to from downtown. Try going across the Booth Street bridge to get here. It's surrounded by mostly a residential area. There's not a whole lot going on around here so it's quiet. Best thing is walking or running along the river and getting a good look at it. It's a pretty big park. There's also lots of facilities for a lot of local sports teams.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about Idewild! There's so much to do here. It's a sprawling park located right on the Truckee River, so there is always an opportunity to hang out by the water, wade in and splash around, or just enjoy the peaceful trickle. There are a few playgrounds here, all of which have their own charm. There's a newer one that features some really cool climbing structures and a couple of zipline-style swings that the kids (and parents) LOVE! Another playground has been there for decades and serves as a quiet little oasis in the middle of the park. I also appreciate the abundance of restrooms around here. No need to duck behind a riverside bush! I have found the park and trails through the area to be very well maintained and clean. There are a ton of trash cans and everyone that passes through here does a great job of cleaning up after themselves. Squirrel sightings are a guarantee around here. There's also some really cool duck families and geese that are quick to hiss if you have lunch that you're not sharing! Idewild is, of course, home to Food Truck Friday, but the occasional event will show up here like Earth Day and Safe Halloween. If none of that strikes your fancy, there's also a swimming pool, rose garden, ballpark, fishing pond, bike path, and so much more! Idewild is Reno's ultimate multipurpose park, a perfect day for any age!

Yelp
I'm this parks biggest fan, mom brought us kid's here back in the late 70's,bless her heart Ducks , geese and so much more. Rose Garden, Silvery rills of the Truckee and trail system and spot on. Softball Park and many places to picnic . I love this place and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I love you mom and miss you so much

Yelp
I've always loved the vast area Idlewild Park covers--from the kids playground to the rose garden, then to the pond and around to the skatepark, and then making your way full-circle to the baseball fields. Let's not forget the walking/biking path that runs along the Truckee River and of course, it's worth mentioning Food Truck Fridays are held here annually. Yesterday I enjoyed Idlewild Park as it hosted its annual Earth Day celebration. I was pretty impressed with how many more tents and booths were set up this year as well as the event seemed to cover more of the park than usual. So many local booths discussing ways to conserve, recycle, and renew etc. There was a decent sized section of food being offered with a variety of different cuisines ranging from American fare, Asian plates, desserts and coffee, and even vegan/vegetarian options. While enjoying all the good vibes, there was live music to bop your head to either just walking around or taking a break and popping a squat on the grass to eat and take in the tunes. After all the stimulation, I decompressed just feet away right at the Truckee River, where I took these pics.

Yelp
Last Fall, I decided to take a walk at Idlewild Park. There was a group there cleaning up the leaves and branches, so it was a busy place. But there was still lots to enjoy. There is a Sensory Garden to feel, smell, and see certain plants. Walking along the river is relaxing and beautiful!

Yelp
Last Friday night I wanted to try the Friday Food Truck event at the park. It was impressive 20 different food trucks, cool. The first one we saw was called; "Egg Rolls with a Twist " and it was really interesting. They had a Monte Christo which is a deep fried sandwich that has turkey and ham on the inside. It's incredibly decadent and yummy. I have had a few sandwiches in my day but have never seen it like this, very inventive! It's served with a side of jam which sounds funny but it's amazing! You dip it into the strawberry jam. I was very impressed with this because the jam was a purée which is delightful for dipping. They had a bunch of different ones, but the next one I will try is the Rueben This is also a favorite of mine... The next truck we tried had a pulled pork sandwich. It had a very flaky, fresh bun. I really liked the BBQ sauce. I also sampled the freshly squeezed lemonade. Yummy! It was a great park. The best plan is to bring a blanket and chill out on the lawn. Bring wet wipes for sticky fingers!! There are a few tables around but definitely not enough. Bring a cooler with your fav beverages. We spent $45 for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks for your FYI. There was many different types of trucks: BBQ, Mexican, Italian, Greek, Burgers, Beer, Lemonade, Donuts, and Crepes. It runs every Friday evening from 4-9 all summer. We went right at 4 and it was packed and hard to find parking.

Yelp
Clean and nice. Needs work on the bathrooms but the park itself is fun for kids and safe.

Yelp
Review #128 - 2020 Since it was 102° out, I decided to take the girls out to find a nice park with plenty of shades & a nearby river. My Yelp search turned out to be pretty helpful, but Apple Maps steered me wrong again. We showed up at around 5 PM on Saturday, July 4th. We parked across the street from McKinley Arts & Culture Center & I needed to use the bathroom pretty badly. I was hoping that I would able to use the bathroom at McKinley, but it was closed. Just my luck! So, we try to make our way over to Idlewild, but little did I realize we were parked at least a mile away so my bladder was killing me during this tiresome walk in the heat. Luckily, we were able to ask some people for help on where to find the exact location of the restroom & I didn't need to find a bush. The bathroom wasn't all that clean, but it was good enough in time of crisis! There was a kids's playground right next to the bathroom, which my daughter wanted to go on; but it was so hot & I didn't want her to burn herself on the slides so we decided to walk back toward my car, where they could actually play in the water. The girls had so much fun playing in the nice, cold water for about an hour before it started getting cold & I made them dry up so we could go get some ice cream & they didn't complain at all about having to leave. Sadly, I didn't get too many pictures of the park areas, since I was in such a hurry to find the bathroom. But, I did get some nice pictures of the river area where the girls were playing at.

Yelp
I feel so lucky that here in Reno we have a park for every occasion. For many years I have come to Idlewild for a variety of reasons. When I used to live close I would rollerblade along the river path. Years later, I found myself there on Friday nights gathered with friends dining from a food truck. As of late I have found myself there for softball practice for an upcoming season. Parking and navigation can be a challenge but once you understand the layout you can quickly find a parking spot near your desired location. The grounds are maintained well typically but the softball/baseball fields leave a lot to be desired. The fields are pitted in the outfield and the dirt and have no shading over the dugouts. That might be fine for spring softball but for summer it's brutal. thankfully the games are mostly evenings but practices are brutal. Aside from heading there for softball, this park checks all the boxes. Beautiful views. Reasonable amount of parking. Located in a convienent and accessible spot. Variation of things to do - skatepark, river path, pool, etc.

Naw, I.

Yelp
This park is so big, along the Truckee river with a nice walking path, lots of ducks and squirrels. It's super clean, too, always great to see.

Yelp
I have live in Reno all my life so I grew up with this park. It has always been a favorite of mine to go to as a child. The children's play area has one of the biggest playground area for the kids. They have a sectioned off part for a child's birthday party with picnic tables too. In the summer time they have a little train that goes around the park that you can purchase tickets for. If you are just looking for a nice little walk they have a great rose garden with so many beautiful roses. I love to go and practice my photography on all the flowers there. If you are looking for a little exercise check out the crooked mile. It is a nice paves path that takes you along the river and is such a pretty walk. So if you are looking for a place to take the kids, and the furry kids, or just looking to walk than you will be pleased with this park. In the summer months several events take place at this park too including Food Truck Friday and Earth Day.
google avatar

Bob F.

Yelp
This is our favorite park among several in Reno. Whether to enjoy the walking paths, Food Truck Fridays, the benches and trees, or the kid's playgrounds or occasional exhibitions, we always feel safe and peaceful in this nicely maintained, wooded area that adjoins the Truckee River.

Yelp
One thing I love about Reno is all the parks. One thing I love about living in downtown Reno is that this wonderful park is walking distance from the main downtown "arch district". Just walk down to the Truckee River, turn west and and it is about a mile down the Riverwalk. I walk on the "crooked mile" path that winds along the northern banks of the river through the park. There are playgrounds, picnic areas, a public pool, ball fields, rose garden, duck ponds, a miniature train ride, and a skate park. There is lots of convenient parking at the park if you choose to drive there. It is shady and cool in the heat of summer and is well maintained all year around. Every Earth Day there is a huge event with food and games and arts and crafts. It is a wonderful spot for a large public event, family picnic, or just hanging out and taking a walk.
google avatar

Yelp
I really enjoy this park it is great with the river next to it and the pond. My family really enjoys going there This park also has lots of area to have a picnic

Yelp
Very nice park close to downtown Reno. Plenty of things to do with kids and adults too. Bike/Walking trail around the Truckee River. They have a beautiful Rose Garden and plenty of kids play equipment scattered around the park. Visit this park if you want to go on a serene walk or bike ride.
google avatar

Yelp
Earth day festivities were amazing today! The park is always in great shape and I loved seeing both ponds full, hopefully they figured out the problem under the one to stop losing water. The restrooms were clean and fully stocked despite a park full of hundreds of people. Can't wait for Friday night food trucks and the rose gardens to bloom.

Yelp
What a great little park. My son was looking to catch a fish in as many states as he could this summer during our travels. Nevada was number 4! Started at wing field park a few blocks away but it was crowded come afternoon and he had no luck so we followed the truckee river up. We found this wonderful park. River on one side and small lake on the other. Shady spots to listen to the water and enjoy the scenery. Not very crowded at all, I have no idea why. It was my favorite part of this river in the Reno area. First cast fish on! Trout. We let it go after a quick picture. There were also rose gardens, a skate park, a memorial building I didn't get to check out, and a pool. Also a baseball field and plenty of picnic tables. A truly great afternoon.
google avatar

Angela F.

Yelp
Earth day today great day to be out and about I the sunshine. Before it gets to hot. Lots of earth friendly vendors. Food trucks. Unfortunately for an environmental event can't find trash bind. This was a nice family event. All sorts of things going on to entertain everyone. We were early so there were no food vendors yet, but we could see the getting ready to set up. My nephew and grandson would have loved to touch the live snakes.
google avatar

Yelp
In my 9 years of living in Reno, I have never met anyone who didn't have something good to say about Idlewild park. Special events? How about Earth Day and Food Truck Friday? Walking trails? Riverside walking trails to and from the park. Sports? How about baseball fields, a swimming pool, basketball courts, and horseshoes? There is also a sensory garden that me and my girlfriend love to spend time in. There are plants for all the senses to smell, taste, and see! Another reason we love Idlewild is because of how many Pokemon Go opportunities there are. On community day, the park is filled with Pokemon trainers playing and enjoying themselves. The park is also great for special events. I went to my friend's wedding in the community center building there, and it was a great time.
google avatar

Erin F.

Yelp
I'm probably biased (it's the closest park to my house) but this is my favorite park in Reno. This park always has something going on. Today, they're having an earth day celebration. Runs, marathons and odyssey relays, city-league softball tournaments, an Olympic sized pool in the summer, and everyone's favorite event of the summer FOOD TRUCK FRIDAYS! This is a gorgeous park that has a running path right along the Truckee river, and is family friendly. Bring the picnic tables, have a party, challenge your in laws to a game of kickball, enjoy the park!
google avatar

Yelp
I go here often to hangout when I'm on my off period it's quite and peaceful you can go for a nice walk without anyone bothering you the sound of birds chirping is nice and peaceful and it's also relaxing if you just want to get away from city live I would recommend going here the only thing is a lack of restrooms but other then but it's a nice hangout place
google avatar

Rosa C.

Yelp
I love love this park! We go bike riding! Gets hot in the summer so we go in the river! They have a train that cost 2 dollars per ticket! We love the park and the pond!

Yelp
A pretty park down by the Truckee river with great event spaces and playgrounds.

Yelp
Beautiful park. Perfect place for families. Nice place for photos. It's mid September and trees are gorgeous here. There are lime bikes to park grab and ride down the river walk. Come back for a picnic or whatever. Bike trails, public pool, kids train, water park feature and nice large playground. Few picnic tables for relaxing. Highly suggest this park with mature trees for shade.

Tami T.

Yelp
Great place to walk and just hang out with family and friends. Beautiful trails and clean areas to have a BBQ and/or picnic.

Yelp
27 years ago my father proposed to my mother while enjoying the views of the Truckee River while sitting in Idlewild Park. When my brother and I came along, they took us here on vacations to Reno to play on the rides and the train for children that used to be housed in the park. As we strolled through Idlewild a couple of days ago on another summer vacation together, it felt like we had left Reno altogether and entered a quiet paradise so very different from all the noise and lights of downtown. Though the children's rides are gone and my brother and I are no longer children ourselves, I can see why my parents used to come here to spend time together. It's a gorgeous park and the views of the Truckee rushing by are enough to earn a top rating on their own. The river, coupled with the sheer size of the park and all of the activities available to do in and around it, makes Idlewild one of the best parks to go with family, friends, or your special someone. I wish it wasn't so far from home.
google avatar

Yelp
Sure, Rancho San Rafael is great, but Idlewild is special. While I can't say I've been there in a long while, some of the best Sundays of my entire life were spent in this absolute wonderland for kids in Reno. I remember hating to decide on which ride to spend my last tickets on, for they were all just too fun! When you're 4 years old and have to decide between a plane, a horse, a train, bumper cars, or a rollercoaster, it's probably one of the hardest decisions you'll have to face all year. It was like having a small county fair in your town perpetually- ice cream and cotton candy included. And the rides were only the tip of the iceberg; that playground was probably the greatest playground ever in my history. (Reno children of the early 80's, you have to be with me on this!) There were all sorts of crazy things to climb on, squirrels, a playhouse, and a rocket ship the size of a tall building with shaft-holes you could easily fall down, yet I still managed to make it out alive with all my teeth. Though I'm tempted to take away a star for their remodeling of the playground and making it safe AKA lame, it will always be a 5 star establishment in my book. Every time I drive by this place when I'm visiting, I get kinda misty eyed. Though a lot of the rides have changed, they all still look like a blast, and that 4 year old inside of me is dying to go on all of them. If I could relive 7 days of my youth, Sunday would definitely be spent here with my family enjoying all those wonderful moments together again.

Yelp
Idlewild Park is great. They have a large playground with numerous play structures and a water feature so the kids can get wet. The playground area has a ton of tables and some grass also. There is a nice little trail that runs through the park along the river, and a fitness area. There is tons of grass, and also a little train for kids to ride on. The only negative thing I have to say about this park is that some of the older play structures are not well maintained. Overall, great park that we go to often.

Yelp
There is a lot of green space in the Reno area and Idlewild Park is part of that ambiance and specialness. Good place to enjoy a walk or the outdoors.

We go here frequently for the kids to burn some energy and go walking by the river. The kids love the water tower and I do too, especially on these hot summer days! My only complaint is that there is lots of dog poop that isn't picked up while walking the path by the river. It's just gross... There is a large bee hive in one if the trees near the picnic area where the kids play and I'm not sure of it's being taken care of or not....so be careful! Especially if you are allergic...

Yelp
Love this park. I've been coming here for decades now. So vast. The river is long and allows a walk with small stops to the river side. There's a public swimming pool open to the community. A large community building that is available to the public, and various places with picnic tables and grills. There is a beautiful rose garden. A train kids and parents can ride.

Yelp
Nice park. Good got kids to play around fly drones and to have family time. I just did not like the bird/duck poop all over the place.
