"This pleasant family-run restaurant in a good location in the Gros district of the city focuses on traditional-regional cuisine and is almost always full, including with many foreign visitors who are attracted by cuisine with an authentic Basque flavour and generous portions. Ikaitz’s à la carte features delicious fish, premium meats and plenty of locally sourced ingredients. These are showcased in dishes such as grilled octopus with a creamy purée and paprika, and boneless oxtail in its own jus, served with vegetables and almonds." - Michelin Inspector

This was an amazing restaurant! The sommelier was so friendly and helpful, the food was fantastic, and the ambiance was warm and welcoming. The definitely deserve their spot on the Michelin guide and potentially even deserve a star. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting San Sebastian.

Unassuming restaurant in the basement in the gros side of town. Friendly and helpful service. The fresh cheese salad is really good. The fish and steak were cooked perfectly. The torrija was outstanding. Definitely recommend checking this place out. We will be back.

Excellent restaurant easy to miss as tucked away in basement. The decor was traditional with relaxed dining. Staff were very polite and engaging. Great to see cold water already served on the table. We started with a small free appetiser made from yoghurt and apple almoat a custard. It was so nice we asked for 2 more. For starters, we had pate and squid and prawn skewers. The pate was served with brioche croutons, slightly overdone, mine came with a vinegarette salad. Good portions perfectly cooked. We both had red tuna marinaded in vermouth served with salsa seared nicely with sesame crust. The flavour was excellent. Wine selection very good. A good bottle of white Rioja for €20. For a Michelin guide restaurant the overall value and quality was excellent. Well worth a visit.

So excellent that we came back two nights! Ordered the tuna entrée, squid entree, and octopus starter both times. Highly recommend! Creative food with fresh ingredients. Awesome service and great atmosphere.

Enjoyed the food and service, although €24 for the starter of anchovies (pictured) was a bit of a stretch, although it did look beautiful. Fortunately it was the only dish we ate that felt a case of style over substance.
