IKAZUCHI UDON – Kyoto - a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

"The udon dough is rested for more than half a day before the noodles are rolled, to give them a supple springiness and soft texture. A dipping sauce redolent with kombu, dried sardines and several kinds of dried fish flakes delivers abundant umami. The Kujo Leeks and Deep-Fried Tofu in Kudzu Sauce is a bowl of pure Kyoto. The curry udon with a spicy aroma is a customer favourite. We recommend the takikomi-gohan with ginger, a dish fragrant with dashi that goes well with udon." - Michelin Inspector

The best cold udon I have ever had. Service is amazing, presentation great, and you can tell the ingredients are fresh. The taste is... wow.

Ordered the 肉金バターうどん (I think it reads to kamatama udon) and it was fantastic! The beef, butter, and black pepper combination with the dashi was amazing. The udon's texture was also perfect. We had to wait for around 15-20 minutes. There were already 4 people waiting in line, and the queue stacked up quiet quickly. So, I recommend coming early. But trust me, it's worth the wait.

Nice little shop with amazing udons. We had a hot udon with green onions bonito and chicken tempura, another one with beef, and a curry one with beef (can’t remember the exact names) and everything was so delicious. The broths and curry base were very well seasoned. Udons are nice and chewy. Great start to our Kyoto trip!

Accidentally stumbled across this restaurant as we were running around between temples. We noticed a line up going in, so decided to join the fray. Thankfully we were already craving for udon! Doing some research on this place while waiting, the noodles are made fresh, big big bowls, and curry udon is one of the recommendation. Verdict: It was all true! We went for curry udon and one of their original udon + deep fried side dish. Make sure you come in a hungry stomach. Chances are you may not be able to finish! (I was able to finish my own but could not help wife). Would recommend if you do pass by this place! Overall Kel rating: ★★★★★/5 The good: Really big bowls, cheap eats, great quality udon. The decent: Can pay with credit card! The ugly: Even though there was about 5-6 people in front of us, the wait can be long, as the udon is made fresh, and very limited in seating.

My roommates told me to come here with them for lunch. I’d know this place was so popular, but the taste speaks for itself. Best udon I’ve had so far. The cold udon chicken tempura was only 990 yen. Expect to wait in line for at least 10 minutes

The udon is very delicious! The staff is very kind, and for being run by only two people, the wait time is not too long at all. I would come here again.

expect to wait in line, i waited 20-30mins but it was worthwhile. get the egg as a side, it it hot and crispy on the outside and the runny yolk goes well with the chewy udon.

This is my fifth visit to Japan, and I've been to many cities and towns enjoying many different types of udon dishes. This place is now my favorite udon. The cold udon with chicken tempura was absolutely delicious! The modern presentation was so beautiful that I almost didn't want to mess it up by eating! I highly recommend this modern hip udon place in Kyoto. 👌🏼💯😋
