Yelp
In short:
You won't find a more-interesting building for a coffee shop, or a better overall business model. Best of all, the coffee, tea, and snacks are great, and well priced.
In long:
Yeah, it's a former funeral parlor. They don't belabor that. In fact, it's all fresh, airy, and bright everywhere. Tons of art for sale on the walls. Huge open spaces around every corner. Places like this should ALWAYS be turned into public gathering spots, IMO, if they become vacant. Not much better way to welcome the public than serving coffee.
You walk past customers seated outside (weather permitting), through a foyer with banquette seating, and off to the side there's a looooong counter where you place your order and ogle some pastries. Solid lineup of favorite coffees and teas. Down the hall are meeting rooms and some nice clean washrooms.
We checked out a house-brewed iced tea, an iced green tea (sorry, somebody...I picked that up by mistake and drank it), and a matcha latte. All excellent. We also had a gluten-free oatmeal cookie.
Everything was excellent--full of flavor. I know GF cookies are good for me but I would have taken one with all the bad stuff as long as I am being bad and eating a cookie in the middle of the day. I still ate every bite, though.
The kids working here are often working their first jobs, and I love that the place puts a premium on hiring that way. They were *awesome*--friendly, helpful, thought on their feet when needed.
We hung out for a while, filched some wi-fi, people-watched, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I would so come back here, and will on future Salem visits.
